ADVENTURES WITH ALICEĀ

In episode 4 of Running Conversations, we talk to Run Mummy Run member Joanne Lee.

During our chat, we hear the touching story of our famous RMR duo Joanne and her daughter Alice. Both known so well with the Run Mummy Run community, Joanne explains more about her life with Alice before, during and after the diagnosis of Alice's life-limiting condition, the CASK gene mutation.Ā

While things are undoubtedly hard for Joanne, she's full of positivity and determined to give Alice the best life she can with lots of adventures. We hear about their races together, the preparation for their first-ever marathon (on Alice's 21st birthday), and Joanne's goal for Alice to complete her first 5k parkrun using her outdoor walker.

We're so proud of these two ladies for what they've achieved together, proving life really is for the living. We were so inspired by their story and we know our listeners will be too.

We're also incredibly grateful to NiteIzeUK and BurtonMccallltd who kindly sponsored the making of this episode. We chat to Vikki Thornwell to find out more about Nite Ize, the products that organise your life, protect your gear, light your way and creatively solve your everyday problems.

13 Jul 2021E3. Running Conversations | The Run Mummy Run Podcast | With Sarah Watkins and Dan Mapleston from CamelBak01:04:38

RUNNING THROUGH GRIEF

In this very special episode, our member Sarah Watkins talks with us honestly and openly about the sudden loss of her husband Steve. She discusses how she coped herself with this life-changing situation and how she has supported her young boys through this difficult part of their lives. Sarah touches on the important role running has played in helping her deal with her grief and tells us how running quite literally saved her life.Ā

We talk about what runs have inspired Sarah and what races she is doing next. We hear about the fantastic charity Winston's Wish, who provided childhood bereavement support for her two boys following the loss of their father.

We are incredibly honoured that Sarah shared this special and private story with us and we came away with so much to reflect on and learn. We think many of our listeners will find so much value from the story and lessons learned on this podcast.

We dedicate this episode to Steve, a loving husband and father.

06 Sep 2021E5. Running Conversations | The Run Mummy Run Podcast | With Che Odlum and Vikki Thornewell from Biolite01:18:30

Ā INCLUSION, DIVERSITY, REPRESENTATION

In this episode we talk to the amazing Che Odlum.Ā

Che is a popular, much loved member of the Run Mummy Run community. She is an enthusiastic supporter of all of the other women in the group, leaving lovely comments and inspiring everyone with her running and skipping videos.

Inspired by the 2012 Olympic games, Che came to running later in life after not feeling sporty in school. We hear how her family and her St. Lucian heritage is very important to how she lives her life. How her running is an inspiration to her children and how her family's history of volunteering has inspired her to do the same.

Che talks passionately about inclusion, diversity and representation and encouraging everyone to enjoy running and feel a valued part of the running community. She has some fabulous stories, listen to the podcast to find out how she became an athlete representing St Lucia!

We're also incredibly grateful to Biolite and BurtonMccallltd who kindly sponsored the making of this episode. We chat to Vikki Thornwell to find out more about Biolite's headlamps. As autumn and winter arrives visibility has never been more important. We discuss the features and benefits of their headlamps. We were most impressed to hear about the front and rear head light all in one - genius.

13 Oct 2021E6. Running Conversations | The Run Mummy Run Podcast | With Kate Wozniak and Ruth Tocher from Stasher Bags01:15:10

We've come to the last episode in our first podcast series! We can't believe it; it's been such fun. We want to say thank you to everyone for being part of it with us – our guests, our kind sponsors and you, our listeners. We will return in the new year for more episodes of Running Conversations: The Run Mummy Run Podcast.Ā

In our final episode of the series, we talk to Kate Wozniak and find out more about the journey she's been on with her health and running. Kate openly discusses her mental health, and talks about how developing chronic fatigue posed (and still poses) many challenges in her personal life and in her running. Kate is passionate about the importance of being kind to yourself. She talks about recognising that your health is a priority, allowing yourself time to rest and heal, and learning to listen to your body. Lessons we should all live by.Ā

We learnt so much during this podcast and were really inspired by the bravery and strength Kate showed throughout this whole interview. We hope it helps others in similar situations.

We're also incredibly grateful to Stasher storage bags and BurtonMccallltd who kindly sponsored the making of this episode. We chat to Ruth Tocher to find out more about Stasher's handy multi-purpose storage bags. The endlessly reusable, resealable silicone storage bag that replaces single-use plastic.Ā  Fantastic for the outdoors and keeping food or valuables safe and dry.Ā

As always thank you for listening to the podcast and supporting Run Mummy Run. We'll see you for the next series soon!Ā  x
