In this episode I chat with Auckland based comedian Steven Lyons about movies 6 through 10 of the Fast & Furious series. We also chat about the idea of an actor's likeness being taken over and used in the case of their death by things like AI and Deepfaking. We get into the history of James Bond movie henchmen and the classic kung fu masterpieces of our youth. And naturally we riff on how ridiculously awesome the series has gotten as well as our predictions for Fast X. 23 Apr 2023 | 6. Raiders Of The Lost Clark w/ Jeff Clark | 00:50:22
Episode 6 of the podcast is live and under the new umbrella title of Ruddle Me This! It's the same general formula, me talking with a guest that I find interesting, except we're not limiting ourselves entirely to poster based discussions, although I have found the format of asking the guests about posters meaningful to them to be a great conversation topic so we will invariably see more episodes about posters, I just wanted to change it up so that it's not the only thing I can talk about with my guests. In this episode Jeff Clark, Christchurch based musical improviser talks me through his 20 year career in improv, as well as his stints working as the marketing manager for a couple of theatre companies and an arts festival. We get into the nuts and bolts of marketing for a theatre, and then move into the poster Jeff brought with him, Raiders of the lost ark. We chat about Multiverse stuff a bit, and whether Star Wars has entered it's own Multiverse phase much like the Marvel Cinematic Universe has. Taylor even learns that Rhian Johnson directed one of the Star Wars movies he hasn't seen. As you can imagine when you get a couple of nerds in a room, many geeky tangents ensue! 30 Apr 2023 | 7. Gary Starlight & Infinite Jeff w/ Jeff Clark | 01:04:38
In this episode we hear part 2 of my interview with Jeff Clark in which we talk about his alter ego Gary Starlight who he performs some incredible musical comedy as, the first time I saw him do it my mind was blown and I was really appreciative of being able to do a deep dive with Jeff and asking all of the questions I've had on my mind since I've known him. We get into the origins of the character and how his mind works when he is playing Gary, it's very fascinating to hear. We then move on to his experimental stand-up show Infinite Jeff a multiverse type show about where his life might have ended up if he didn't become an improviser. We head off on a couple of tangents about an experimental comedy set idea that Jeff has, as well as how amazing public libraries are and the litany of amazing services they provide. We wrap things up by breaking down the first ever comedy poster I designed, Jeff gives me some very kind but very insightful feedback. 0:00 Gary Starlight 19:01 Infinite Jeff 30:00 Jeff's Comedy Set Concept 32:20 Public Libraries are AWESOME 34:46 My First Comedy Poster 49:48 My Life Update You can follow Jeff online at: https://www.facebook.com/garystarlightsings https://www.facebook.com/JeffClarkPerformer https://www.instagram.com/comikazejeff/ https://www.twitter.com/comikazejeff/ Watch my full hour-long stand up special Ruddzilla for FREE on YouTube here! I sit down with Dan Bain, a writer, director, performer & maker of fun things based in NZ. 14 May 2023 | 9. Perfuct Storm w/ Dan Bain | 00:52:29
I sit down with Dan Bain, a writer, director, performer & maker of fun things based in NZ and finally get to pick his brain about his current Improv project Perfuct Storm. I'd been wanting to pull this apart with Dan for years so it was a very exciting conversation about where the seed for the idea started and how Dan's photography and graphic design skills have grown throughout this project. It's a fascinating conversation and Dan is very honest about where he came from and where he feels he hasn't lived up to his abilities in terms of one of the photoshoots. We also talk about where he got the idea for his innovative Instagram feed idea. If you've been a fan of Dan and especially been in to see Perfuct Storm, you won't want to miss this one! 0:00 Intro 1:52 Interview Starts 2:28 Perfuct Storm 35:40 The Perfuct Insta Feed 41:02 Wrapping it up 48:53 Life Update 51:43 All My Covid Jokes Promo Dan Bain's Linktree: https://linktr.ee/iamdanbain His THREE instagram accounts https://www.instagram.com/noosedoctopus/ https://www.instagram.com/standupinhell/ https://www.instagram.com/perfuctshow/ His two podcasts https://sleepytime.buzzsprout.com/ https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/x-men-the-animated-series-rexamined/id1674510436 https://www.facebook.com/iamdanbain These are NOT the rules of improvisation https://ko-fi.com/s/8507fd72fe Watch my full hour-long stand up special Ruddzilla for FREE on YouTube here! Steven Lyons is BACK and this time we discuss all of the posters and media that have come out surrounding the second to last movie in the Fast & Furious series, Fast X! We go off on all sorts of tangents, from comparing the movies to Rocket League, to talking about a far future spin off for John Cena called The Pacemaker, as well as discussing the absolute insanity seen within the movies and trailers released. It's a fun episode, don't take it too seriously and I hope you enjoy it. Check out Fast X in cinemas from the 18th of May in NZ! 21 May 2023 | 11. Talkin' Football w/ Big Jimmy Small | 01:08:10
I sat down with one of my favourite comics and people in general, Big Jimmy Small. Jimmy imparts a lifetime of passion for football on me in just over an hour. I'd been wanting to have Jim explain to me the ins and outs of British football for the longest time, even more so now that I've gotten so into Ted Lasso. Had a great time chatting with Jim, the conversation mainly skewed towards the business and culture side of football, but he also told me a bunch of stuff about how the game is played. Definitely keen to get Jim back some time and have him explain more, I just enjoyed listening to him talk about football. 04 Jun 2023 | 13. The Phantom Files Vol. I - Mākara Beach, The Meth Demons & The Knocker | 00:29:51
Welcome to The Phantom Files, a series within my podcast featuring paranormal stories from New Zealand; Cryptids, Ghosts, UFOs and everything else from beyond the veil. I'm a huge fan of the Monsters Among Us podcast and so have adopted the same format except focusing as much as possible on New Zealand. I highly recommend checking out Monsters Among Us, I have gotten so many hours of entertainment from that podcast. If you've got a story you'd like me to play on the podcast, all you need to do is record the story in your own words into your phone's voice notes and then email it to me at ruddlesphantomfiles@gmail.com and I'll include them in the show! This isn't a show about ridiculing, debunking or discrediting your stories, I just love a scary story! Once I collect another 3 or 4 good stories, I'll release another episode so if you want more of these episodes, I need your help encouraging the people in your lives to send me their tales! I literally couldn't make the pod happen without listener submitted stories. Listen to The Phantom Files Vol. I, Vol. II, Vol. III and Vol. IV here, and check out my Interview with a Paranormal Investigator here. I show a few different versions of the international posters and talk about how hard it is for them to get the style right. 25 Jun 2023 | 16. Revisiting A 15 Year Old Idea w/ Hamish Mabon-Ross | 01:36:51
In today's episode, I chat through an idea I had when I was around 15 or 16 years old. I started creating a flash animation of the story but possibly due to moving house or a PC dying I never got around to working on it any more. I always liked the idea for the setting, the magic system and the characters so it's never left my head all this time. I decided it would be great to bring Hamish, a fellow comic and fantasy fan onto the podcast where I could rattle off my story and ideas to him, and he could help me flesh it out as well as suggest some ideas of his own. We intended to only go for 40 minutes but we got so wrapped up in the discussion I decided to just let it roll and we've ended up with quite a long-y. If you're into worldbuilding, fantasy, comics, anime, storytelling and all that juicy stuff you'll probably really enjoy this episode, but if that's not for you then I won't begrudge you for skipping it. You might also just like to listen to me and Hamish chat for an hour, he has a very pleasing voice and I've been told the same about mine. Hope you enjoy! 18 Jun 2023 | 15. Long Live The King... Steve King... w/ Steve King | 00:57:39
This time I decided to try out a "Two Dudes Talking" style podcast and went in without any ideas in mind, just wanted to have a chat to Steve who's a good friend of mine. Steve's a very funny comic, as well as a talented musician and artist. He loves cats too, so he's a true triple threat. We start out talking about the kings birthday holiday which was the day recorded it, and moved onto James Bond, what would a New Zealand James Bond movie be like, and then we moved into chatting about Steve more; how long has he been doing music and comedy, how did he get his start, and all those juicy details. It's a fun chat, and I hope you enjoy a change of pace for this one! You can find Steve's artistic pursuits here: https://www.instagram.com/humblekingdom/ And his music endeavours here: https://www.instagram.com/gearloose/ Watch my full hour-long stand up special Ruddzilla for FREE on YouTube here! 02 Jul 2023 | 17. Origins of The Lamington w/ Danny Sewell & Fin McLachlan | 00:32:51
I've been writing and designing for the best NZ based satire news page, The Lamington for about 3 months now and I thought it would be cool to have a chat with Danny & Fin the 2 lads behind the project. We went through the origins of the idea, how they followed through and got it off the ground, what's in store for the future of The Lamington and then we went through a couple of our sizzle reels, headlines we wished had got through but didn't for whatever reason. The interview was rife with technical issues, recording online and trying to sync up 3 conversations was a new podcasting challenge for me, and we ended up losing big chunks of the interview but what we did keep is still a great listen. I hope it makes up for the massively long episode last week. Follow The Lamington! 16 Jul 2023 | 19. Baseball Basics w/ John The Robert | 00:43:25
I've been wanting to talk about baseball at length with someone ever since I saw Moneyball. Great film. John being a native american was more than happy to chat with me about it and we cover the basics of the sport, as well as a few of the more advanced intricacies of the game. Towards the end we start getting into how baseball is deeply ingrained within american culture in a very interesting discussion. 23 Jul 2023 | 20. Murder w/ Aimée Thorne | 00:36:49
Today I am joined by Aimée Thorne, and up and coming comedian from Auckland becoming known for her dark comedy. She's a part of the "Weird, Dark & Scandalous" crew, a comedy show for deviants, weirdos, outcasts, metalheads, geeks, and anybody who’s ever felt like they don’t quite fit in". Definitely get along to one of these shows if you see it being advertised! Aimée is a big fan of true crime and so I wanted to pick her brain a bit and see why people find true crime so fascinating, we also talk about a book called The Gift of Fear by Gavin de Becker and we talk about a few prominent NZ true crime cases. As you can expect this episode deals with some dark and potentially disturbing subject matter so please be aware of this when you listen, I won't hold it against you if you skip it! In today's episode I am joined by Hoani Hotene, he's a Wellington based comic and was the 2023 winner of NZ's Raw comedy competition, quite an achievement and I was delighted to have him on the show. Hoani brought with him the Errol Morris documentary Gates of Heaven, made in the 70s about people who own and operate pet cemetaries. 06 Aug 2023 | 22. Lily Allen's It's Not Me, It's You Part 1 w/ Aimée Borlase | 00:38:05
In this episode I am joined by comedian, singer and actor Aimée Borlase! She brought with her to the show to discuss Lily Allen's album "It's Not Me, It's You." We discuss a little bit of The Muppet's at the start which was her alternative choice, but ended up going with Lily Allen. We discuss why this album was meaningful to Aimée, some of the themes contained in the lyrics and talk about how this album and Lily Allen in general has influenced Aimée's art thus far. Aimée is a self admitted over-preparer and had prepared a ton of notes, so we ended up being able to go for a lot longer than expected as thus this is part 1 of our discussion, give me a subscribe to keep in the know for when part 2 drops in a couple of weeks! 20 Aug 2023 | 24. Contact Juggling w/ Steve Wilbury | 00:41:47
Today I am joined by Steve Wilbury. Steve is an international award winning magician, stand up comedian and children's entertainer based up in Nelson. I first met Steve last year when we performed on the Kids Day Out Variety Show together. I think I was the first person to do stand-up to children on that tour. Steve and I stayed in touch and have gigged together sporadically since. Today Steve offered to teach me all about Contact Juggling, a version of juggling that I had no idea was so rare of a skill, as well as relatively recent. We get into the history of contact juggling, as well as Steve's ambition to create an act that contributes to the art form. We delve into all sorts of magic and comedy geekery throughout, so if you're into those, you're in for a treat! History buff and former comic Talia joins me on the show and we have a chat about what the film got right and what they got wrong about the battle of Thermopylae. I was and still am a massive fan of the movie so this was a great opportunity to ask many questions I've had for years. 15 Oct 2023 | 32. Why We Love Pro Wrestling w/ Dave Adams | 00:42:34
If you know me at all, you know that I love pro wrestling. I missed the boat during the 90s when it was booming but discovered it when I was 17 or 18 years old and have been a fan ever since. Dave Adams is a Christchurch-based stand-up comedian originally from Wellington and he's also a huge fan. In this podcast we seek to give the casual viewer an insight into the baffling popularity of "fake fighting." Dave got into wrestling during the boom in the 90s so between us we have 2 different reference points to look at and hopefully we will be able to take you from skeptic to curious and maybe you'll check out a show. One of my best friends is a local wrestler, "Eccentric" Elliot Samuels, check him out on Facebook here to see him sporting some of the merch I designed him while he puts the stretch on the competition. 22 Oct 2023 | 33. The Hottest Band In The World, KISS w/ Craig Westenberg | 00:38:56
In this episode, I'm joined by up-and-coming Auckland-based stand-up comedian Craig Westenberg. If you've been following me since the days of my first podcast Ramblin' With Ruddle, you'll recognize Craig as my first ever podcast guest. Craig's been my go-to music friend for years, he is very learned around all sorts of artists and genres and often has insightful knowledge about them. This time I thought it would be fun to bring Craig onto the show and talk about his favourite band, the hottest band in the world - KISS! I've been a bit of a bandwagon fan of Kiss for many years, always liked their music but never really delved into the history of the band or what sort of evolution they've been through as a unit, that's where Craig came in. It's a really interesting listen about one of the most unique bands in entertainment. A wee Wednesday bonus episode for you! Many weeks ago Matt Lilley and I sat down for him to explain to me the ins and outs of the great kiwi past time Rugby. When we recorded it was right around the time that all the office workers of the world were saying "Up The Wahs" to everything, and by the time I've uploaded it, the All Blacks are about to play South Africa in the finals of the RWC. Oh how time flies. Matt was kind enough to remind me about this podcast, so I decided bugger it, we'll slip it in as a Wednesday bonus episode in case any of you out there were looking to brush up on your Rugby knowledge before the finals! 05 Nov 2023 | 36. Reflecting On My First Ever Stand Up Tour | 00:43:14
In this episode I reflect on the experience of my first ever stand up comedy tour. In October 2023 David Correos and I did a 20-show new material tour around most of the South Island of New Zealand. This sort of thing is very uncommon in NZ even amongst professional comedians so I wanted to share my thoughts and feelings about this incredible experience while they were still fresh in my mind. I talked about what went well, what could have gone better as well as the whole ton of stuff that I learnt from being on the tour. It was such a good experience and to have it go off as my first ever touring experience makes me feel very lucky. I look forward to doing it next year again! (Spoiler? Maybe!) I will do an episode with David on the show too, but for now I thought I'd like to do one solo to help process what we did. Part 2 of my 3 hour long conversation with local up and coming comedian Henry Hickman all those weeks ago is now live! We continue on with the Survivor chat, I reckon probably go back and listen to part 1 to get yourself up to speed before this, or just dive right in, I'm not the boss of you. In this episode we get into the middle years of survivor where things got really nutty and they tried some absolutely insane social experiments when deciding to come up with the tribes. I hope you enjoy it! Part of the Survivor Trilogy of podcasts, catch part 1 here, part 2 here and part 3 here. 19 Nov 2023 | 38. Jokes & Clips From The New Material Tour 2023 | 00:36:53
I recorded every single set David and I did on our 20-show new material tour in 2023, combed through it and picked out some of my favourite crowd interactions, jokes that I only did a couple of times, as well as other spontaneity that only happened in the room, I even have audio in there of me falling off the stage at Inch Bar in Dunedin! If you attended one of the shows on the tour, this might give you the chance to experience what the other nights were like, and if you didn't attend, maybe you'll change your mind next year! 26 Nov 2023 | 40. Paranormal Investigating w/ Tracey Royce | 00:36:35
In this episode I am joined by my guest Tracey Royce, one of the 2 founding members of the paranormal investigation team The Quantum Foundation. Tracy was insanely supportive of me with my Phantom Files episodes in both helping me get some new stories as well as spreading the word about the episodes online. The success of these episodes wouldn't have been possible without Tracey's help. I brought Tracey on the show to talk about the origins of The Quantum Foundation as well as how their method of paranormal investigation differs from the typical "ghost hunter" type you see around a lot these days. It's a fascinating listen and I really enjoyed having the conversation. 28 Nov 2023 | 41. Coombe As You Are w/ Matt Coombe | 00:40:42
In this episode we take a slight divergence from the usual model of having a topic to talk about and I present to you another wee Wednesday bonus episode, an interview with my friend Matt Coombe! It's your pretty standard Two Dudes Talking format podcast, just having a catch up with Matt and talking about what he's been up to. Matt is a comedian and comedy producer up in Auckland with a lot of hustle, so it was cool to pick his brain a bit about that as well as the fact that he's a zoomer so I could ask him things about where he sees the future of comedy going. He caps the show off with a hilarious tale of an encounter with a vicious and violent duck that he had. It's a great listen, I hope you enjoy it! Kozo is a high octane performer who combines rock n' roll, video games as well as the occult into his unique brand of chaos. In this interview I catch up with Kozo and get to really pick his brain about how to survive as a street performer in NZ, what does a day in his life look like, what does a year in his life look like, what's it like performing around the world in festivals, how to travel on a budget and all that good stuff. 05 Dec 2023 | 43. Ramblin' About Copyright, Transparency & Corporate Greed | 00:35:41
Hey now what's this!? Ramblin' With Ruddle is back!? In a new solo format!? You betcha, Ramblers! I've been wanting to create a different "flavour" of the podcast for when I do these solo talking (unhinged rambling) episodes and as I talk about in this episode I was inspired by the recent The Escapist exodus to return to my roots a bit and revive the name Ramblin' With Ruddle. In this episode Ruddle rambles about Copyright, Transparency and Corporate greed through the lens of the Escapist's recent exodus and the founding of Second Wind that followed. It's a really exciting and inspirational story, if you're into that sort of thing then definitely have a read, it was covered by the BBC! Do you like the idea of these solo podcasts? I've been surprised by how well the downloads for some of the later solo podcasts have done which helped inspire me to come up with the idea to revive Ramblin' With Ruddle. Let me know via a DM or email if you like or hate these, I need your feedback! This is also the first episode of the podcast 100% recorded on my new microphone, the Samson ESAQ2U! I did a bit of a comparison and the quality increase blew my mind, hope you enjoy the new production value! In this episode I'm joined by Auckland stand-up comedian and all around great gal Renee Church! We talk about The Beatles, Renee gives me a proper education about their history, what the band means to her and all that good stuff. Towards the end of the podcast we get into some general chat about the difference between improv and stand up, and what they could each learn from each other, as well as just the general hustle of trying to be a comedian these days. We meander through a bit of 90s nostalgia as well as talking about our cats, and the episode gets surprisingly deep at the end as we talk about what do toys / dolls / etc mean to us, as well as the day we realized that they weren't as fun to play with any more. 31 Dec 2023 | 2023 State of the Ramble | 00:20:09
Terribly sorry about missing the usual Christmas / Boxing day upload for State of the Ramble, everything fell to bits all at once; I was losing my voice, had about 3 gigs coming up that I needed said voice for, and the first recording of SOTR2023 clocked in at a whopping 43 minutes AND to top it off I had messed up the audio mastering and it ended up unlistenable. But we rebuild! I was feeling up to recording again on the 30th, so I smashed it out in an afternoon and here we go! I hope you enjoy it and I look forward to yapping at you some more in 2024! Hey hey it's 2024's first podcast, a vanity project! I copied the idea off The Anime Man, a Youtuber I follow who mentioned in a podcast that he starts each year doing a Q&A video, so I thought I'd do the same. Luckily for me, some listeners submitted some great questions and I recruited local mensch, Henry Hickman to read them out to me. 15 Feb 2024 | Introducing Diners, Drinks, and Drives | 00:01:40
Larry Smith and Dan Bublitz Jr are two standup comedians who spend a LOT of time on the road. Fortunately, they love visiting new places, discovering the hidden, and not-so-hidden, gems in a community, and generally hanging out and getting to know people. They’ve also discovered some tips and tricks to thrive while traveling and will pass them along. Let Diners, Drinks, and Drives (yes, purposefully named this to ride on the coattails of a certain celebrity chef) be your travel guide. From large cities to small towns, Larry and Dan will do their best to showcase the best (at least, the best to them) food, travel tips, and places to get some booze that they can!
03 Mar 2024 | 54. The Genius of Phantom Planet w/ Steve King | 01:01:05
In this episode I'm joined by my good friend Steve King and what begins as a bit of a moan-fest about how hard it is to advertise comedy shows in this day and age turns into quite an insightful chat when Steve brings up the way the band Phantom Planet (remember The OC's theme?) use their patreon page to engage with their community. This part of the chat blew my mind and immediately changed how I saw the platform of patreon. It's a great listen if you're a fellow struggling creative, and I hope a good listen if you're just a podcast fan! This time I'm joined by Dec McHale, Stand Up, Improv Comic, Actor & icon from Auckland and he joins me on the show to talk about the behemoth music event that is Eurovision! I learnt that Eurovision is sometimes known as "The Gay Olympics" which I found just delightful, most likely doing a follow up podcast with Dec about it! If you'd like to follow Dec, hit him on instagram @decmcomedy or get yourself down to the Wednesday Laughs at the Covert Theatre once a month, check his insta for the most up to date details! In this episode, I ramble about my nostalgia for the way I used to watch anime back in the 90s during my childhood, and then in the wake of Akira Toriyama's passing I talk about my memories of DragonBall and why it was a meaningful series to me. This one ended up being a lot longer than I expected, and there's still so much more I'd love to cover, so if you'd listen to more Anime themed episodes then let me know on the Patreon group or other social media and if there's any demand for it I'll definitely do more! In this episode I'm joined by a good friend Seán Tinker who's recently made the jump to being a full time entertainer like myself. I had so many questions for Seán about how he makes a living, how he got started, what was his breaking point to quitting the day job, etc. so it was awesome to be able to sit down with him and pick his brain. It's a great listen, especially if you enjoy hearing about my trials and tribulations trying to make it as a comedian. Follow Seán on Insta HERE -- Ruddle me this now has a proper website! 04 Aug 2024 | 76. 4D Creatures & The Roman Empire with Dayvid from Down The Rabbit Hole | 01:05:31
In this episode I'm joined by Dayvid, the second half of the Won Nothing podcast as well as a rising star in the paranormal community via his page Down The Rabbit Hole on Instagram! Initially I brought Dayvid on the pod to do a Tiny Joys episode but we just got chatting and next thing I knew it had been an hour and we had been getting DEEP on some paranormal topics. We talked about Dayvid's first couple of experiences, then we got into horror movies where I talked about an idea I've been mulling over for a horror movie featuring a 4 dimensional creature which led into a massive discussion about the dimensions, before capping it off talking about The Roman Empire, as is the way! It was an awesome chat, and I hope you enjoy it! In this episode, the Dons of Hoss Town yap up a storm about the potential lockdown 2: electric boogaloo that we might have to go through, before moving on to something a bit lighter in the closing of Big Gary's Takeaways here in Christchurch as well as their favourite fish & chip establishments. Matt bares his soul and talks about the incredibly tough night he had in the finals of the Christchurch Raw Comedy Competition and Taylor vows to stage an insurrection in order to defend Matt's honour. The lads then talk about times they've failed in showbiz, most lately Taylor's trip to Twizel where he sold 11 tickets to a show in a theatre that seated 200 people! Get your tickets to my Panic! At The Buffet comedy taping on the 26th of October 2024 HERE In this episode I'm joined by a Christchurch based Therapist, Logan Robinson! Hot dog, he's a proper therapist and everything. We met very randomly as I saw a post he made on Reddit about offering cheap therapy, $60 every 2 weeks so just $30 a week. I felt that that was very generous of him to try and do his bit to help the mental health crisis we've got going on in NZ. Here's a bit about Logan's specialities: "I'm a professional therapist with specialisation in ADHD/ADD, anxiety, depression, stress and burnout. I have a professional background in Mental Health, Social Work, Coaching and Vocational Rehabilitation alongside experience working with across the spectrum of disability, including neurodiversity." I thought it would be cool to bring Logan on the pod and have a chat about mental health and he turned out to be a really nice, empathetic guy who seems like he offers practical and realistic solutions to helping your mental health. I reckon I'll bring him back on the pod at some point to yarn some more. Get your tickets to my Panic! At The Buffet comedy taping on the 26th of October 2024 HERE Back from the grave! It's another edition of The Phantom Files, just over a year later than Volume III. As usual I've got some fantastic tales to share, in this episode Rebecca from Volume I makes a return telling us about an entity she created called The Hunter. I play an old radio recording called Bongo In The Pilliga from an Australian radio show called Overnights about the area of Australia called The Pilliga where ghosts and cryptids are rumoured to have been sighted. I retell a story of one of the only instances where Christchurch had a ghost - The Victoria Street Ghost. Tracey Royce of The Quantum Foundation returns to tell us about an entity she saw that we have no way of describing but the story sent chills down my spine to hear it! We close off with a short story about the mythical Cape Reigna here in New Zealand, thought to be the entrance to the underworld in Māori mythology. It's a great episode, hope you like it! This image shows how Tracey saw the entity that she did. If you'd like to preorder a copy of Tracey's book, flick her an email to traceyroyce1965@gmail.com and say hello, no payment needed until the book is published! 29 Sep 2024 | 87. Darren Shan Nostalgia with Hamish Mabon-Ross | 00:40:59
Get your tickets to my Panic! At The Buffet comedy taping on the 26th of October 2024 HERE In this episode, I brought back my regular compadre, Hamish Mabon-Ross to discuss the Young Adult horror vampire novel series that we both enjoyed in our youth - The Saga of Darren Shan! I had been feeling really nostalgic for this series as of late and when Hame mentioned that he was also familiar with it, I thought that's it! We need to do an episode of the pod talking about it. We mostly talk about his Cirque Du Freak / Vampire's Assistant / Tunnels of Blood books, but we also do talk about his later work, The Demonata and Zom-B towards the end. It's a bit of a mess in terms of continuity, we jump all over the place as random bits and pieces spark memories about other bits of the books, but I think you'll enjoy it all the same. I know Darren includes podcasts and videos about his work occasionally in his newsletter the Shanville Monthly so if you're reading this Darren, thanks for the incredible books, I enjoyed them immensely as a kid and I'm sure they must have a part in shaping my personality as I grew up. Keep up the great work! Cover art featuring my actual books. The books, in case you're interested in checking them out are: The Saga of Darren Shan (also known as the Cirque Du Freak series Vampire Blood Trilogy: Cirque Du Freak, The Vampire's Assistant, Tunnels of Blood. Vampire Rites Trilogy: Vampire Mountain, Trials of Death, The Vampire Prince. Vampire War Trilogy: Hunters of the Dusk, Allies of the Night, Killers of the Dawn. Vampire Destiny Trilogy: The Lake of Souls, Lord of the Shadows, Sons of Destiny. The Demonata: Lord Loss, Demon Thief, Slawter, Bec, Blood Beast, Demon Apocalypse, Death's Shadow, Wolf Island, Dark Calling, Hell's Heroes. And then there's the Zom-B series but I'm too lazy to grab all the individual titles, give it a read, it's cool stuff! Get your tickets to my Panic! We also chatted about how to find a venue as well as source some accommodation which I had heard were the two hardest things about doing the EdFringe.
