This is the preach I never got to give. The exposing, painful truth of Bruxy Cavey's sexually abusive history has been an incredibly difficult time for my own community at The Meeting House, the church with whom I served on the teaching team. It has also coincided with many other truths being revealed around Clergy Sexual Abuse, harassment and misconduct from other places as well—Brian Houston, and Christianity Today to name two others exposed just these last few days. It appears we are in a season where God is rooting out some deeply embedded sin.

The temptation is to think this is a fight against flesh and blood. But it's much bigger than that. So, what do we do? How do we fight back? Who is our actual enemy here?

That's what I hope to communicate in this podcast. Here are some tools and clarity around how we fight back.

He has spoken widely on the topics of the witness of the church, cross-cultural ministry, and social justice at academic conferences, seminaries, Christian colleges, local churches, denominational gatherings, and ministry conferences on both the domestic and global levels.

He joined World Vision after leading and building successful international organizations. He has worked for brands such as Google Mobility Motorola Mobile, Sky Television, Harrods Group and Ford Motor Company and was the CEO of Clear Channel UK. 

Andrew is married to Vanessa and they have two teenage children, Lewis and James.

Sandra’s distinctiveness comes from working in both local and global contexts as a practitioner and academic, which has solidified her calling to disrupt oppressive systems within the church and center marginalized voices. She has reached audiences around the world on topics of ethnic identity, reconciliation, global justice, and worship through international movements like Lausanne, The Justice Conference, and World Vision and Urbana Missions Conference. Her local influence is also palpable, having served as a pastor and activist in her local community. She holds a Masters of Divinity from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School and is currently pursuing doctoral work in Urban Leadership and Transformation. Sandra is the author of The Next Worship, as well as contributor to the New York Times bestselling book A Rhythm of Prayer.

In this episode, Danielle interviews Reverend Christo Greyling. Christo is the Senior Director for Faith and External Engagement at World Vision International. God has been on a unique journey with Christo. In September 1987, Christo, a haemophiliac, tested positive for HIV. He publicly disclosed his status in 1992, while serving as a reverend in the Dutch Reformed Congregation of Windhoek-West in Namibia. His vision was to be a witness for Christ amid his situation while helping the church and others to respond to HIV with compassion and constructive action, which lead to the initiation of the Christian AIDS Bureau of Southern Africa. After he completed his Masters in Public Health, he joined World Vision and led the development of the Channels of Hope methodology which has catalysed nearly 600,000 faith leaders in 48 countries to respond to difficult development issues such as child protection, maternal and child health, HIV, gender and Ebola. He is passionate to walk alongside the church in their calling towards holistic ministry. In this Christo works towards meaningful partnerships and collaborate with Churches and faith actors to meaningfully contribute towards God’s calling to ensure all children have life in all its fullness and can live in communities without violence.

He earned a bachelor’s degree from Cornerstone University, a master's from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, and a doctorate from the University of Nottingham. Dana (Daniela) Buzducea has worked for more than 20 years to change the systems that keep the world’s most vulnerable children living in degrading, dehumanizing conditions. From social work in Romania to leading World Vision’s global advocacy work, Dana has always been committed to ending injustices facing children. Dana is a passionate advocate for children’s right to participate, and she believes adults have a responsibility to keep children high on the political and the public agenda so that no child is left behind in the development race.

Maya Assaf-Horstmeier has been working for World Vision since 2005, supporting disaster management programming including early warning and early action, disaster preparedness, and humanitarian response. In 2017, Maya joined the Peacebuilding team as Associate Director for Conflict Sensitivity. Maya has supported the start-up, strategy development, resource acquisition, and quality assurance initiatives in a number of global responses.

Matthew Scott currently leads World Vision's global fundraising for dangerous places around the world. His twenty years with the organisation includes seven years leading World Vision's global peacebuilding practice, two years based in World Vision India, and five years as World Vision's representative to the United Nations in New York. He has worked in dozens of conflict-affected contexts and lived in Australia, Bangladesh, Germany, India, Indonesia, Uganda, the United States, and Venezuela. Matthew has a deep personal passion for ending poverty and violent conflict, an interest in sustainability, and has completed numerous marathons, triathlons, and cycling tours for charity.

Maclean Ndabezinhle Dlodlo is a leader in World Vision South Africa with invaluable knowledge and experience engaging the Church and Civic Society on developmental issues across cultures. His focus is in the negotiation of the intersections of faith, gender and inclusion, protection, and peace-building to champion collective responses for lasting change. In 2015, the Lewis Institute, Babson College, USA awarded Maclean a Social Innovator award in recognition of his leadership in the multi-country scale-up of Channels of Hope for Gender, World Vision’s faith partnerships curriculum that inspires a positive change in gender norms, value systems, and practices in communities.

I just finished a book entitled Unwanted about the battle of unwanted sexual behavior by Jay Stringer and I'm continued to be inspired by the work of Melinda Tankard Reist who founded Collective Shout inviting everyone to stop the sexual exploitation of our children.
