19 Oct 2021Robert Prentner: Interface Theory of Perception & Consciousness00:52:27

Robert Prentner, PhD is a Doctor of Philosophy currently at the Centre for the Future Mind, Florida Atlantic University, where he conducts research in consciousness studies, molecular physics, natural and artificial intelligence, and philosophy. His current project is “Consciousness and the Emergence of Objects”. Robert and colleagues have been working to explain their theory of consciousness in a mathematically consistent manner. Their group has published several papers on what they refer to as the Interface Theory of Perception using evolutionary game theory and complex mathematics to bring precision to their theories. Prentner’s colleague, Donald Hoffman forwarded this ‘Conscious Realism’ to the mainstream in his popular book, “The Case Against Reality” (2019).

-

The Interface Theory of Perception states simply that the reality we experience with our senses is analogous to the desktop interface on your computer. We may see objects in our world and take for granted that our perceptions of that object are a ‘true’ representation of what’s actually there. But in the Interface Theory of Perception, these objects are merely a useful fiction; an icon that bears no resemblance to the true nature of reality, but one that helps our species live on and propagate our genetic information. Much like how a folder on our computer desktop may appear rectangular and blue, we do not assume for a moment that the contents of that folder are indeed rectangular and blue. In fact, the true nature of our computer interface consists of electric fields, magnetic fields, resistors, voltage toggles and more. If we had to interact with the true nature of our computer desktop, we’d never get any work done. Much like how we pay top dollar for interfaces that simplify this reality in our technology, our perceptual systems have evolved not so that we experience reality as it is, but simply as it’s best for us to perceive it. This theory also exists outside of spacetime, meaning that our place in space and time is also just a very useful fiction.

26 Mar 2023Mike Mew: Orthotropics & Facial Development01:02:47

Dr. Mike Mew, BDS, MSc (Orth) is a lecturer and lead clinician at the London School of Facial Orthotropics. His primary interest is in the growth and development of the face, identifying the effects of changes in posture, function and muscle tone and its relationship to orthodontic problems. Mike uses the orthotropics system to reverse the underlying conditions that lead to crooked teeth, sleep apnea, snoring and TMD, amongst a range of other symptoms. He is undertaking research to investigate how to improve these systems, using modern technology and innovative applications.

-

Unlike conventional orthodontics, where the teeth are mechanically shifted to fit the shape of the face, orthotropics encourages and facilitates proper facial development and posture to ensure the teeth have enough space so to prevent malocclusion. The importance of environmental factors are clearly being ignored and could greatly assist orthodontic therapy and general health. Dr. Mew aims to change a section of modern medicine by making it evidence based and focused on the long-term health of patients.

-

His ideas are generally as follows; crooked teeth essentially do not appear in human skulls until very recently, therefore, malocclusion cannot be based in any real sense on genetics. Environmental factors including poor air quality, soft foods, bottle feeding, allergy causing chronic mouth breathing, poor posture and improper swallowing have led to craniofacial dystrophy; improper growth of the face, resulting in crooked teeth and narrowed airways. By shifting these environmental inputs, proper facial development can be promoted, allowing space for the teeth to grow unimpeded.

30 Sep 2021Zen Honeycutt: GMO, Environmental Chemicals & The Power of Mothers00:56:34

Zen is mother of 3 and the founder and executive director of the nonprofit organisation, Moms Across America. Zen has been a champion of informed consumer decisions throughout America since learning that the environmental chemicals in the foods that her and her family were eating were affecting the allergic symptoms in her young boys.

-

With her deepening understanding of the dangers of pesticide residues on conventionally grown food she began rallying concerned mothers around the country to come together and seek change. Moms Across America have been involved in large-scale attempts to have the labelling of GMO foods mandatory in several states throughout the US. While not always able to prevail over the massive corporate lobbyists, the word continued to spread as more and more mothers have made commitments to change their consumer habits to protect the health of their families as well as the environment.

06 Apr 2024David Raubenheimer & Stephen Simpson: Nutritional Geometry & The Protein Leverage Hypothesis00:59:06

David Raubenheimer is a Professor of Nutritional Ecology at the University of Sydney who specialises in nutritional and appetite regulation. His approach is comparative, using ecological and evolutionary diversity to understand these interactions. David’s studies of insects, fish, birds and a variety of mammals have helped develop a new approach to human nutrition-related problems, such as the dietary causes of obesity. Stephen Simpson is a Professor in the School of Life and Environmental Sciences at the University of Sydney. He has a background in experimental psychology, zoology and nutritional biology. Stephen is one of the world’s foremost entomologists and nutritional biologists, and in 2015 he was made a Companion of the Order of Australia for eminent service to biological and biomedical science.

David and Stephen have been working together for decades on a unifying approach to nutrition and energy balance. Their investigations began with the question of why animals in the wild are so capable of regulating their food intake as to avoid the conditions of excess that humans are experiencing at startling rates. This led them to investigate the impacts of various ratios of macronutrients on food intake in animals from locusts to primates. Their findings led them to formulate the “Protein Leverage Hypothesis”, which broadly states that animals prioritise the consumption of protein and eat various foods until a ‘target’ of protein is met.

28 Mar 2025Gábor Somlyai: Deuterium Depletion in Reducing Cancer Metastasis & Mortality00:57:36

Gábor Somlyai, PhD is a Hungarian molecular biologist and world expert in the role of deuterium in cancer. He has published seminal work looking at the effects of various concentrations of this heavy isotope of hydrogen on growth and metastasis. Gábor’s company, HYD LLC. for Cancer Research and Drug Development, has been at the forefront of developing deuterium depletion protocols as a synergistic cancer therapy. Their work over the last 30+ years has demonstrated the profound potential of deuterium depletion in not only cancer, but other disorders including type 2 diabetes. The identification of this submolecular regulatory system shaped by the relative abundance of deuterium to hydrogen in the body provides a framework with which we can further understand what cancer is and how sensitive our bodies are to subtle environmental information.

All elements on the periodic table have isotopes - slightly different configurations of the same atoms that have slightly different chemical characteristics. Hydrogen is the simplest atom, with one proton, and one electron. But hydrogen also has another stable isotope called deuterium, with one proton, one electron and one neutron. This is still hydrogen, but it is double the atomic weight and consequently behaves differently. In our bodies, approximately 1 out of every 6600 hydrogen atoms (also referred to as 150ppm) is a deuterium atom. Our cells are exquisitely tuned to this deuterium/hydrogen ratio, and they use this ratio as a foundational signal in cell division. As deuterium levels shift, large scale changes in bioenergetics and genetic expression result. Gábor’s work shows that lowering the deuterium level can effectively inhibit the growth of cancer cells.

18 May 2024Clark Engelbert: Mineral Balancing & Systems Biology01:25:50

Clark is a health practitioner who specialises in mineral balancing. The concept of mineral balancing is based on the field of ionomics and stems from the work of a soil scientist, William Albrecht. Clark is particularly interested in the use of hair tissue mineral analysis (HTMA) in identifying system-wide nutrient relationships in order to restore balance and eliminate accumulated heavy metals. The use of HTMA over blood analysis gives some salient advantages in some respects; hair is a tissue sample and can be used to gain a deeper insight into the longer-term status of an individual and their metabolic function. While it has its limitations, HTMA, when interpreted correctly can be extremely helpful in identifying imbalances in the mineral system and establishing protocols to rebalance that system.

Clark currently runs Nutritional Analytics where he works with patients from all over the world and helps them deal with heavy metal toxicity and mineral imbalances that are ubiquitous today.

18 Jun 2024Leland Stillman: Medicine, Trauma & Upholding The Hippocratic Oath01:09:06

Leland Stillman, MD is an American integrative medical doctor who specialises in environmental medicine. Leland realised very early on in his career that conventional medical practices focus on symptom management rather than optimal health. The word doctor is derived from the Latin word, ‘Docere’, meaning “to teach”; something Leland saw was absent in the centralised system. As a result, spurred on by his desire to follow Hippocrates’ notion that “The greatest medicine of all is to teach people how not to need it”, he started his own practice. He currently works with patients all over the world and in Naples, Florida on the fundamental aspects of health. He also works closely with Clark Engelbert of Nutritional Analytics where they teach HTMA interpretation through Stillman Wellness.

18 Apr 2023Clark Engelbert: Mineral Balancing, Heavy Metals & HTMA01:21:22

Clark is a health practitioner with a particular focus on mineral balancing, or ionomics. He is particularly interested in the use of hair tissue mineral analysis (HTMA) in identifying mineral imbalances and using the synergistic and antagonistic relationships of minerals to restore metabolic balance. The use of HTMA over blood analysis gives some salient advantages in some respects; hair is a tissue sample and can be used to gain a deeper insight into the longer-term status of an individual and their metabolic function.

-

While it has its limitations, HTMA, when interpreted correctly can be extremely helpful in identifying imbalances in the mineral system and establishing protocols to rebalance that system.Clark currently runs Nutritional Analytics where he works with patients from all over the world and helps them deal with heavy metal toxicity and mineral imbalances that are extremely common today. His philosophy is embedded in the teachings and wisdom of soil scientist William Albrecht and physician Paul Eck, who paved the way for our current understanding of mineral interactions in biological systems.

Jean Claude Guimberteau is a French surgeon who specialises in endoscopic investigations of the human extracellular matrix, otherwise known as fascia. Over the span of several decades, Jean Claude has documented thousands of hours of footage of living tissue and the spaces between tissues. He has observed that the living extracellular matrix is a dynamic and fractal structure capable of absorbing stress and distributing it through the entire system in a non-linear manner. His work overlaps that of biotensegrity, systems biology and non-equilibrium thermodynamics, even extending to ideas of how posture influences cellular and even genomic processes.

Michael Holick, MD, PhD, is an American endocrinologist and world’s leading expert on Vitamin D. He is known for his discovery of the active form of Vitamin D and the development of the assay for the circulating form - one of the most ordered assays ever generated. Michael has specialised in conditions including psoriasis, osteomalacia and hypermobility syndromes. He is the author of several popular books including “The Vitamin D Solution” and “The UV Advantage”.

Michael’s work has had a huge impact on medicine and is the recipient of many awards including the Linus Pauling Prize in Human Nutrition, the Robert H. Herman Award from the American Society for Clinical Nutrition and NIH’s General Clinical Research Centre's Program Award for Excellence in Clinical Research. He has battled myopic and biased dermatologists essentially because his work brings a broader context to the conversation of health and sun-exposure; a topic that has become very controversial because of the doubling-down of both professionals and institutions on the idea that sunlight is harmful, which is undeniably false. Michael continues to preach the message of sensible sun-exposure as well as working with patients and researching to further understand the role of Vitamin D and its related compounds in human health.

21 Oct 2022Robert Fosbury: Interactions Between Light & Life02:14:34

Robert Fosbury is an emeritus astronomer at the European Southern Observatory and an honorary professor at the Institute of Ophthalmology at University College London. For 26 years, Bob worked at the European Space Agency as part of their collaboration with NASA on the Hubble Space Telescope. He joined this initiative in 1985, more than 5 years before launch. During the latter part of this period, Bob served on NASA's Ad Hoc Science Working Group and ESA's Study Science Team as they developed the instrument concepts for the James Webb Space Telescope, the next-generation space observatory.

-

Since then, Bob has become an integral part within the Institute of Ophthalmology at UCL with his unique perspective on light and its interactions with the earth’s atmosphere. His interdisciplinary contributions to this team at UCL have lead to new hypotheses developing, particularly surrounding the beneficial effects of specific wavelengths of red and near-infrared light and the detrimental effects of the narrow spectrum blue light that is emitted from modern lighting fixtures and appliances. Bob and the team at UCL with Professor Glen Jeffrey are working hard to explore and share the damaging effects of blue spectrum light from artificial sources. Commonplace, most artificial lighting peaks at wavelengths that have devastating effects on the energy productions systems of the cell, the mitochondria, as well as having negative effects on circadian rhythms.

06 Apr 2025Paul Héroux: Electromagnetic Energy as a Threat to Life01:09:14

Paul Héroux, PhD, is a physicist and toxicologist with particular interest in the biological effects of electromagnetic energy. He is an Associate Professor at McGill University's Faculty of Medicine and also Medical Scientist in the Department of Surgery of the McGill University Health Center. Paul has spoken eloquently on the fallacies perpetuated within the scientific community surrounding biological effects relating to man-made electromagnetic energy, namely that (1) non-ionizing radiation is biologically inert, (2) that the energy supplied is insufficient to overcome thermal energy, (3) that these exposures cannot cause sufficient heating within tissue. These claims ignore basic principles of physics and are scientifically indefensible. Paul’s work also focuses on public health, bringing more awareness to the unchecked advancement of the telecommunications and energy industries, and the threat they pose to all life on Earth. His in vitro work has clearly demonstrated that ELF radiation such as powerlines induces broad changes in basic physiological processes; the consequences of which are yet to be appreciated.

05 Sep 2023Sally K. Norton: Oxalates & Toxic Superfoods00:55:03

Sally Norton is an educator, speaker and health consultant who specialises in the impact of oxalates in the human diet. Sally has a bachelor’s degree in nutritional science from Cornell University and her master's degree in public health from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. Sally’s own health journey lead her to the realisation that many foods that are considered to be among the healthiest, actually contain a metabolic toxin that even in modest amounts can cause illness and disease.

-

Oxalates are compounds made by plants for various purposes including calcium homeostasis, structural integrity and to ward off insects. This seemingly innocuous compound bind with minerals, particularly calcium and creates oxalate crystals, known to most as kidney stones. Oxalates inhibit energy metabolism and impede normal cellular functioning when consumed in amounts that exceed the body’s capacity to detoxify it. Unfortunately in today’s diet culture world of spinach, sweet potato, kale, chard, cacao and raspberries, many people who think they are doing the best thing for their health are slowly but surely poisoning themselves with oxalates.

24 Nov 2024Olle Johansson: Biological Effects of Electromagnetic Fields01:36:50

Olle Johansson, PhD, is a former associate professor at the department of neuroscience, Karolinska Institutet. His research focuses on the biological effects of electromagnetic fields and the potential consequences of unbridled expansion of global communications networks. He has been outspoken in his desire to inform the public of the known dangers of electronic devices and wireless technologies, particularly to children, who are more susceptible to the effects. Due to the complex socio political and economic relationships between telecommunications companies and public health sectors, Olle’s (and others) work has been harshly criticised for being dramatic and unfounded, despite the presence of thousands of peer-reviewed articles demonstrating detrimental biological effects of man-made electromagnetic fields dating back almost a century. Olle’s moral obligation to speak out about these negative health effects have impacted his career and research dramatically.

-

Stephanie was the first guest I had on the podcast back in 2021, so it’s a real pleasure to be able to speak with her again and expand on what she’s been working on. In this conversation, we centre our discussion around deuterium; a heavy isotope of hydrogen. Having recently spoken with Gábor Somlyai, PhD, who is the father of deuterium science in biology, this conversation follows very naturally. I sincerely appreciate Stephanie’s work as she has put her reputation on the line many times to pursue interesting and fruitful ideas that often clash with mainstream dogma. I think many of her ideas will be proven eventually as they all follow an elegant logic.

Pelle Lindqvist, PhD, is a Swedish obstetrician and epidemiologist with particular interest in the role of sun exposure habits in health outcomes. He has become more well-known particularly because of his publications in the last decade on how sun exposure impacts disease incidence and mortality. In 2014 and 2016, Pelle and colleagues used data from the Melanoma in Southern Sweden Cohort of 30,000 women over 20 years. The published results demonstrated that those with the greatest sun-seeking habits had lower all-cause mortality when compared with those with the lowest sun-seeking habits. These results have since been replicated using data from the UK Biobank, making it crystal clear that our disconnection from sunlight is affecting health in a foundational manner.

23 Apr 2022Glen Jeffrey: Restoring Macular Degeneration01:03:11

Glen Jeffrey is a Professor of Neuroscience in the Faculty of Brain Sciences and Institute of Ophthalmology at the University College London. His research focuses on areas including retinal structure, development and visual areas of the brain as well as comparative evolution of the brain. In the last decade, his work has been centred around public health, looking into cost-effective and safe ways to prevent and even reverse the increasingly common condition macular degeneration. His research has delved into the mechanisms that underpin the aging process and applied these findings to the most energy demanding cells in the body; the retinal cells.

-

In the last few years, Glen’s lab has been at the forefront of using light to restore the pathological condition of macular degeneration. By using wavelengths of red and near-infrared light at the correct time of day, Glen and his colleagues have shown that these wavelengths of light can help the organelles called mitochondria produce energy more efficiently, offsetting some of the damage caused by aging. This extremely low-cost modality with an unparalleled safety profile may indeed become something that is used widely in the future to prevent and restore metrics of vision in our aging population.

19 Mar 2024Michael Crawford: DHA, Prenatal Nutrition & The Shrinking Brain01:12:12

Michael Crawford, PhD, is a British researcher who focuses on the importance of marine fatty acids in human development and health outcomes. Michael got his PhD in 1960 in chemical pathology at the Royal Postgraduate Medical School, University of London. Since then, Michael has been a vital part of countless projects including setting up advanced medical schools and hospitals in Uganda, working with the Indonesian government on marine farming projects, all the while becoming the world’s expert in essential fatty acids.

Michael has a particular interest in the role and necessity of docosahexanoic acid (the omega-3 fatty acid DHA) and arachadonic acid in the evolution of the brain. Humans have the largest brain relative to body size, and our brains are made predominantly of highly unsaturated fatty acids; particularly DHA. Without the consistent consumption of seafood during our early evolution as we left the trees and departed our primate ancestors, we could never have developed the cranial capacity we eventually did. However, with shifting dietary patterns and destruction of marine habitats, the all-critical marine food web is being damaged. Micheal posits that this will spell disaster for humanity if we do not maintain a strong relationship with these essential marine nutrients.

Michael’s new book, “The Shrinking Brain” documents how our brains developed, what has gone wrong over the last century, and what we can do to optimally nourish ourselves and our progeny. He also has several recent publications regarding the quantum mechanical effects of DHA in signal transduction in the brain.

22 Aug 2024Gerald Pollack: Membranes, Charge Separation & ATP: Investigating Biology's Foundations01:13:57

Gerald Pollack is a professor of bioengineering at the University of Washington. He is the Founding Editor-in-Chief of the journal, WATER; Executive Director of the Institute for Venture Science; and founder of the Annual Conference on the Physics, Chemistry, and Biology of Water. In this conversation, we focus on the shortcomings of staple ideas in biology such as cell membranes, ATP and ion channels. If these 'textbook' ideas are even slightly wrong, what are the implications for the rest of biology? There appear to be plenty of holes in the orthodox views that must be addressed with genuine investigation.
