Patreon.com/RememberTheGame I'm taking another bite out of the backlog this week and covering the winner of our PS2 themed Patreon poll: Devil May Cry. The camera in this game almost made ME cry, but when it was working, it was pretty fun! I'm traditionally not a big hack and slash fan, and I played DMC 3 years ago and thought it was "meh", so I didn't know what to expect from the original game. I respect its impact on the genre, and I love seeing what was almost Resident Evil 4, but the camera and repetitive nature of the game kept me from falling in love.  Also, Dante is a douche. My pal Miklos swung by the show this week to talk crying devils. And despite the fact that he played this game twenty years ago and I played it last week, we had a lot of the same opinions when it came to the good and bad of Devil May Cry. This episode is an emotional rollercoaster. And before we get trapped by a stupid fucking camera, I deliver another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks if I think Nintendo will start over AGAIN when it comes to retro games on their new console. Are there any "under the radar" games I'm looking forward to? And what am I gonna play first - Spider-Man 2 or Super Mario Wonder?? Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! This one stars the 3 PS2 games that lost to DMC on our PS2 Patreon Poll: Tony Hawk Underground, Katamari Damacy, and Need For Speed Underground. Learn more about your ad choices. Patreon.com/RememberTheGame Where the hell has this game been all my life!?!? I guess on the Game Boy Color... Whatever, Pokemon Trading Card Game is awesome!! I'd never played the Pokemon TCG until a couple weeks ago, and I completely fell in love with it. The spiciness of this take is up for debate, but I actually think I might like the card version of Pokemon more than the RPGs. I'm almost glad I didn't play this back in the day, because I might have a big collection of cards instead of a house right now. My buddy Keegs has been playing PTCG since the early days of the game, and he came by the show this week to talk about how fucking awesome the game is, and how rigged that damned coin is. And before we open some packs, I rip open another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, we get into my hatred for Mallow. What do I play while I'm watching TV? And what's the real story behind the disappearance of the Koopa kids?? Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! Patreon.com/RememberTheGame Alright, alright, I hear ya. You want more episodes about arcade games. Your wish is my command, and this week we're talking about one of the biggest, most iconic arcade cabs of all-time. The cabinet that saved Nintendo of America and kickstarted the legendary career of Shigeru Miyamoto. We're talking Donkey Kong. Admittedly, I've spent more time with the NES port of this game than the arcade version, but a classic is a classic. That first level with the pink construction beams, the barrels, and that Mario guy is among the most recognizable screens in gaming. To this day, I can't walk by this cabinet without dropping a little change. Who doesn't love Donkey Kong? You know who definitely doesn't doesn't love Donkey Kong? My buddy Chris. We had a great chat about one of the most legendary video games of all-time, and looked at the sequels and stuff as well. I love this franchise, I love this game, and I like this podcast. And before we go back to 1981, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks if they NEED to play the OG Final Fantasy VII before diving into Remake/Rebirth this year. Is anyone else as done with crafting in games as we are? And why do I always say "keep the bills on"? (The answer is lame). Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! This one features 3 classic Nintendo cabs: Popeye, Mario Bros, and Donkey Kong Jr. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
04 Sep 2024Expansion Pass #208 - The NES01:04:05
We have over 650(!) bonus podcasts in our Patreon archives at this point, so I like to toss a freebie on here now and then. Plus we're moving this week, so I haven't had time to play anything. One of my favourite things to do on Expansion Pas are console retrospectives. We look back at the systems we grew up with and share our memories and stories while we examine a console's legacy. And for my money, they don't get any legacier than the legendary NES. If you enjoy this, we have a TON more waiting for you on Patreon (ad-free, too!). You can also write into the show, join our Discord, help choose the games we cover, and more! Subscriptions start at just $3/month at Patreon.com/RememberTheGame Learn more about your ad choices. Subscriptions start at just $3/month, and 5% of our patreon income every month will be donated to our 24 hour Extra-Life charity stream at the end of the year! Patreon.com/RememberTheGame We don't show the Wii a lot of love on RTG, but with Nintendo re-re-releasing one of the system's best games on the Switch last month, I figured it was time. We're talking about the superb Donkey Kong Country Returns this week. DKC Returns is everything I want in a platformer. It plays really well. It's tough as hell (especially if you try to get all the collectibles). The soundtrack is banging, the graphics are good, there's level variety. The name says it all; this really is a return to classic Donkey Kong Country. PENDING RTG Hall of Famer and the Diddy to my Donkey Kong, ye olde Mark McCue is my guest this week. We came at this game from 2 different directions and had 2 very different playthroughs, but met up at the end to agree this is just a hell of a platformer and a game no DKC fan should miss. And before we go banana collecting, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks when I found games started to get a little soft. Should boss fights have their own separate difficulty sliders? And what game series peaked with its first release and then just gradually got worse? Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! This one features DK classics: Donkey Kong Country, Donkey Kong 64, and Donkey Kong '94. Learn more about your ad choices. Patreon.com/RememberTheGame And you can find Bradley on the ol' Instagram at: @TheGamingOdyssey This week, I'm firing up another GBA game for the first time: Wario Land 4. And like all the others, I loved it and I'm a bigger GBA fan than I already was. What a great little system, and a great little game.  I'm a big Wario fan, but I haven't played a ton of his games. This one is a prime example of why I need to fix that. It's not super long or super complicated, but it doesn't have to be. It looks great, plays well, sounds awesome, and it's charming as fuck. And it's Wario, so it can't possibly be bad. My pal Bradley McCue makes his return to the show this week to talk about exploring pyramids, scooping treasure, and "hurrying up!", and recording this episode was almost as much fun as playing this game. Minus those boss fights. Fuck them. And before we "hurry up", I deliver another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks me for some recommendations on games to play with their non-gaming spouse. Will we ever do another video game draft episode of Expansion Pass? And if money was no object, what kind of gaming room would I put together? Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! This one's the Wario edition: Shake It!, Master of Disguise, and WarioWorld. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Subscriptions start at just $3/month, and 5% of our patreon income every month will be donated to our 24 hour Extra-Life charity stream at the end of the year! Patreon.com/RememberTheGame As an SNES kid, I'm still a noob when it comes to the Sega Genesis library. I've played some GREAT games on the Genesis over the life of this show, and I'm happy to add Comix Zone to that list. Looks awesome. Great concept. And tough as fuck. I say it all the time, but I love tough retro games. Just hearing the phrase 'NES tough' turns me on a little. And Comix Zone is along those lines. This might be the toughest Genesis game I've ever played, and I keep coming back for more. I'm rolling solo this week, but I snuck a bunch of listener comments into the game review. If you've never played Comix Zone, I hope this convinces you to give it a shot. Don't let the difficulty scare you off. It's a beat 'em up, inside a comic book. And the protagonist looks like Egon. What else do you need??? And before I start reading comics, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks what I would do it I had the green light to revive a dormant franchise in a new genre? Which IPs would make great tactical games?? And how do I manage my backlog?? Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! This one features 3 Sega Genesis comic book games: The Adventures of Batman & Robin, Spider-Man & Venom: Maximum Carnage, and X-Men 2: Clone Wars. Learn more about your ad choices. 16 Aug 2023Remember The Game? #261 - Ken Griffey Jr. Presents: Major League Baseball01:34:24

Subscriptions start at just $3/month, and 5% of our patreon income every month will be donated to our 24 hour Extra-Life charity stream at the end of the year! Patreon.com/RememberTheGame I can't believe it took 261 episodes to talk baseball on this show. I'm hanging my head in shame. But what better way to right that wrong than by talking one of the best ball games of all-time in Ken Griffey Jr Presents Major League Baseball for the SNES?? I couldn't give half a damn about baseball when I was a kid, but I still liked the video games. Black box baseball on the NES was fun, and Extra Innings on the SNES was a good time, but Griffey was always my jam. I loved the home run derby, the simple controls, and thanks to The Simpsons, I even knew who the guy on the box was! My buddy Brad (NBA Jam, Contra) returns to the show this week to talk another sports game. Another GREAT sports game. It's all about hitting dingers this week, fuck yeah! And before we argue with umps over the obviously bullshit strike zone in this game, I swing through another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, we talk about the future of VR. Someone asks ME for dating advice!? And what are games worth here in Canada these days??? Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! This one features 3 SNES sports classics: NBA Jam: Tournament Edition, NHL 94, and Tecmo Super Bowl. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Subscriptions start at just $3/month, and 5% of our patreon income every month will be donated to our 24 hour Extra-Life charity stream at the end of the year! Patreon.com/RememberTheGame XCOM 2 has been lurking near the top of my "someday I'll play it" list for years, and I finally puled the trigger (no pun intended). After over 70 hours of sitting at my PC fighting aliens, I can safely say that XCOM 2 isn't just one of the best tactical RPGs I've ever played, but one of the best games I've ever played, period. If you've never played it, XCOM 2 is a tactical RPG, like Fire Emblem or Final Fantasy Tactics. You move your soldiers around on a board game-esque grid, and take turns with the computer, who's doing the same with aliens and robots. But in between missions, you're traveling the world gathering resources and using them to upgrade both your troops and your ship. Aliens have taken over the planet, and it's up to you to take it back. It's a little tough to pick up out of the gate, but once you're over the hump, it's addictive as hell. My guest this week is the winner of our Extra-Life charity auction from last December, Robert. He picked this game and now I can see why. We get into the meat of XCOM 2, talk about the superb War of the Chosen DLC, talk about our favourite soldier/ability/equipment combinations, and laugh at the bulshit that is missing a 94% shot with your ass on the line. And before we save the world, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, we HAVE to talk a little Switch 2. How am I feeling about WrestleMania this year? And will OG Switch games be discounted after the Switch 2 drops? Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! This one features 3 of the highest scored tactical RPGs on Metacritic: Valkyrie Chronicles, Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions, and Fire Emblem: Awakening. Learn more about your ad choices. Subscriptions start at just $3/month, and 5% of our patreon income every month will be donated to our 24 hour Extra-Life charity stream at the end of the year! Patreon.com/RememberTheGame The Mario & Luigi games are known for their charm, fun combat systems and semi-platforming/puzzle solving. I haven't played a game from this series in well over a decade, but I went back for Partners in Time, and y'know what? It was delightful! (Except for the boss fight at the end. Fuck.) If you haven't played this one, Mario & Luigi end up going back in time to save Princess Peach, and they run into younger versions of themselves. It not only makes Baby Mario & Luigi less annoying, it actually turns out they're pretty dope in the right situation. Add in Bowser and Baby Bowser teaming up, weird alien mushrooms, and a bean store that I couldn't FUCKING FIND, and you have yourself a pretty good little RPG. My guest Keegs has played all the Mario & Luigi games, and he quite likes this one (and the series as a whole). I don't know why I took so much time off from these games, but I won't wait another 15 years to play one after finishing Partners in Time. We had a couple minor gripes, but by and large it's a pretty solid game and we had a good time jibba jabbering about it. And before we go back in time, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks wheat I think the worst named consoles of all time are. How do I hook up all my retro consoles? And what's my stance on the crumb bums ruining online game communities with their underhanded smurfing tactics? Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! This one features 3 of the highest rated DS games on Metacritic: GTA Chinatown Wars, Pokemon White/Black, and The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass. Learn more about your ad choices. I think it (along with the rest of the GameCube wrestling games) get overshadowed by the SmackDown series, but if you grew up playing the N64 holy grail titles, you have to play this one. Day of Reckoning's controls feel like the next-step from games like WCW/nWo Revenge and WWF No Mercy. Simple enough for anyone to pick up, but there's enough depth there for us die-hards to really sink our teeth into. Add in a decent roster and a solid career mode, and you have all the ingredients for at LEAST a four-star match. My guest this week is the official referee of RTG, Mike The Ref. We both love wrestling, love wrestling games, and really like Day of Reckoning. Some minor gripes and I explain why I prefer SmackDown, but all in all DoR is a must-play for any Ruthless Aggression era junkies. And before we ring the bell, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks bout the logic behind our scoring system. How do I feel about Wreck-It Ralph? And I give some one-handed game suggestions to a hot dog with a bad wing. Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! It's tough, frustrating to play (at times), gorgeous to look at, and a game so many 90's kids grew up with. Oh yeah, and it makes me crazy. I love tough retro games, but this one hits different. the frustrating controls and hit & miss collision detection makes it more frustrating than fun at times. That said, when it's clicking, it's a great little game. And it genuinely might be one of the best looking and sounding 16-bit games I've ever laid my eye(s) on. My guest this week was the guy that I yelled at during the Ecco the Dolphin episode, my buddy, Andre. I decided to fire up The Lion King while we were talking again this week, and it spilled over into an Angry Adam appearance. I hope you like swears! And before we wait to be king, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks me what 5 people I would add to Smash Bros if I could. Do my goofy eyes make games harder to play? And the villains and heroes from recent games and TV shows I've been ingesting are coming to help/hurt me. How fucked am I? But this week, we're actually covering of the rare Sega games I played as a kid. The sexy as hell shooter known as Vectorman. There were a few games on the Sega side of the console wars back in the 90's that genuinely made me jealous as a Super Nintendo kid, and Vectorman was one of them. I absolutely adored the way it looked (still do), and it was a surprisingly competent platformer/shooter as well. You play as a bot made out of orbs, and you spend the game running, gunning, an transforming as you take on other robots made of orbs. And you blow up a lot of TVs, too. It's a fairly difficult game, but one that gets pretty beatable with a little practice. I think it's a must-play game in the Genesis library. My guest this week was the guy that suffered my wrath on the Ecco the Dolphin episode, my pal Andre. We got into how good Vectorman looks, how decently it plays, he frustratingly tough it can be, and of course, we made a bunch of balls jokes. And before we talk balls, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks if I could buy one gaming studio, who would it be? What's on my Mt. Rushmore of video game collection items? And what gaming mechanic has become wayyyy too over played? Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! Patreon.com/RememberTheGame I'm a lifelong Mega Man fan, but I've only ever played the main series and the first 3 X games. I've always wanted to try some of the other iterations of the Blue Bomber, and finally fired one up for this week's episode. And while it controls like garage, Mega Man Legends is charming as all hell. I was worried about Mega Man's transition over to 3D, but I actually ended up enjoying this game quite a bit. I missed my robot masters weapons, stage select, weapon weaknesses and all the MM standards, but the voice acting, music, charming locations and cool story kinda made up for it. Those fucking controls, though... Captain N sponsored this episode about a year ago, and being the slow-ass that I am, I'm finally catching up. He swings by the show to explain why he likes Legends so much, and then I break down what I like, dislike, and fucking hate, about this weird little Mega Man game. And before we get legendary, I deliver another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks if they're part of the problem after paying a pretty penny for an old, rare game. Who do I think will win the Cup this year? And is an Xbox Series X worth it, just for Starfield? Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! And I can look passed the flaws in their video games most of the time because of that love. But Bart vs The World is the suckiest bunch of video game suck that ever sucked. It has the DNA of my beloved Bart vs The Space Mutants in it, with the crappy jump mechanics, awful hit boxes, and boring levels. But it adds a bunch of lame mini games that take up like 60% of your play-time, and leaves you wishing you were playing in the deepend of the sandbox with Ralph Wiggum instead. My buddy David Rae makes his return to the show this week, and unlike most of his episodes that involve talking about great NES games, this one brought us both down as deep as Timmy O'Toole in that damned well. And before we "vs the world", I deliver another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone hits me with a play one/remake one/erase one based on games featured on The Simpsons cartoon. What Pokemon would I want to have in real life? And what's a better name: Sega Genesis, or Sega Mega Drive? Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! This one features 3 Simpsons NES games: Krusty's Fun House, Batman Meets Radioactive Man, and Bart vs The Space Mutants. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

So Metroid ON the GBA? Perfection And that's a word I might use to describe this week's game - Metroid: Zero Mission. People have been screaming at me to play this one ever since we reviewed the original NES Metroid a couple years ago, and I finally see why. This is a full-blown remake of Samus' first game. Everything frustrating about the original version is gone, and everything new is awesome. I'm a fan of all the Metroid games I've played so far, but this stacks up against the best of the best. My guest this week is our resident Metroid master, my buddy Daniel. We went over everything the fixed, everything they added, and everything that makes Zero Mission great this week. Minor spoilers for one segment are coming, but you should have already played this damned game anyway! And before we go bounty hunting, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks me what my 3 gaming wishes would be. Will I ever review a card game on the show? And what do I know of Red Dead 2?? Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! This one features 3 GBA games based on Nintendo IPs: Wario Land 4, Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap, and Kirby and the Amazing Mirror. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

I haven't played a bad Star Wars game yet, and Super Star Wars is probably a top 3 for me at this point. I love this game! It scratches every itch I have. It's an SNES game. It's fun. It's tough as balls. It plays great. Aside form that damned Sandcrawler, I don't know if I have a single complaint! Just don't expect me to talk about the last third of the game, because I can't get that far... My go to guest for all things Star Wars is my pal Tyler, and we had a chat about why this game is so good, despite being so tough. And we did it WHILE I was playing the game and setting a new personal best for how long I could last without dying! And before we put go to war with the stars, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks me what I would do if I could make any video game, anyway I want. What games would I make harder if I could? And should Mario Kart continue to include auto-steer options in future iterations? Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! Fortunately, I have a backlog of hundreds and hundreds of podcasts to draw from so you can still get your fix. Subscriptions start at just $3/month, and 5% of our patreon income every month will be donated to our 24 hour Extra-Life charity stream at the end of the year! Patreon.com/RememberTheGame We're back with a vengeance this week. We're talking one of the greatest RPGs of all-time, starring one of the greatest villains of all-time, on one of the greatest consoles of all-time. It's Final Fantasy VI, straight up one of the greatest video games of all-time.  I didn't play this one much as a lad, but I've lost to Kafka (if you know, you know) a few times in my adult years, and it never gets old. The characters in this game are awesome, the customization options offer a ton of replay value, and it has Shadow for fuck sakes. There's a reason this game has a permanent spot on the podium in practically every Final Fantasy ranking list ever written. I have 2 guests this week. Episode sponsor, Darth Skywalter, swings by to explain why this game means so much to him, and then a hall of fame game deserves an (almost) hall of fame guest, so Mark McCue is giving me a call to talk Terra and friends.  We're revisiting one of the best games ever, and if there's a title that deserves a revisit more than Final Fantasy VI, I don't know what it is. And before we go to the opera, I grind through another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks if you're only gonna buy one modern console at this point, what's the best bang for your buck? Do I try to clock the Infamous Intro in at the same time each week? And what's my favourite board game? Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! This one features possibly the 3 other RPGs that sit alongside FF6 on the SNES RPG Mt. Rushmore: Chrono Trigger, Super Mario RPG, and Earthbound. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Subscriptions start at just $3/month, and 5% of our patreon income every month will be donated to our 24 hour Extra-Life charity stream at the end of the year! Patreon.com/RememberTheGame I'm still new to the Sega Genesis universe, so every game I play is exciting because it has potential to become one of my favourites right out of the gate. And that's exactly what X-Men 2: Clone Wars did. This game is awesome. It's a classic 16-bit beat 'em up, and you play as a bunch of the X-Men (and Magneto). What's awesome is that each character has strengths and weaknesses, and they all play differently. So not only does that open the door to a little strategy talk, but it gives you a bunch of replayability as well. And believe me, you'd be replaying this game anyway, because it's pretty damned tough. The Cyclops to my Gambit, my buddy Chris, is my guest this week. He's a card-carrying Sega kid and he gave me a call to sing this game's praises. The graphics, the gameplay, the characters; all praise worthy. (We do crap on the camera a little bit). And before we join the X-Men l, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks why 2023 was such a banner year for video games. Have we found a definitive answer for what's considered "retro"? And where do I stand on the WarioWare series? Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! This one features 3 Genesis superhero games: Separation Anxiety, Captain America and The Avengers, and The Adventures of Batman & Robin. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Patreon.com/RememberTheGame I wanted to sneak this one in last week, but I wasn't able to finish it in time, so consider this your Halloween Hangover episode. One more creepy game to wrap October up - Eternal Darkness for the Nintendo GameCube. This might be the weirdest fucking game I've ever played. You play as a bunch of different characters from different periods throughout history, all connected by this creepy book made of skin called The Tome of Eternal Darkness. The game revolves around solving puzzles while slowly losing your mind, and some of the "insanity" effects it tosses at you are legit fucked up. I wasn't able to finish it (I explain why on the episode), but I genuinely thought it was creative as hell. It didn't sell well back when it released and it's a bit of a collector's item now, but I think if Eternal Darkness released today, people would adore it for how far outta the box it thinks. My pal Daniel (and his dog, Tank zzz) swing by the show this week to talk about the creative excellence that is Eternal Darkness. Did I lose my mind (no pun intended) over the glitch that ruined my chance to beat the game? Have a listen and find out. And before we go crazy, I deliver another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, we get into an idea for GameStop that one listener thinks might help keep the company alive. Where the hell are the Fire Emblem reviews!?!? And what do I think of the new Blink album? Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! This one stars the 3 expensive as fuck GameCube games: Skies of Arcadia, Fire Emblem, and Chibi-Robo! 08 May 2024Expansion Pass #178 - Sea of Stars Review (Spoiler-Free!)01:07:25
I've made the decision to start skipping one Wednesday per month for RTG. I just can't keep up the schedule of playing one game per week, so I'll start giving away a freebie early every month to give myself a little time to catch up. This week, it's my spoiler-free review of the SUPERB Sea of Stars. If you love classic RPGs, or just good video games, this is beyond a must-play. I do tack a short spoilercast on at the end, but I play music and warn you and stuff before that starts. If you enjoy this, we have a TON more waiting for you on Patreon (ad-free, too!). Not to cheap out on this thing (does anyone actually read these?), but what can I say that we don't say int his show and that everyone else hasn't said a million times? It's Mario 3. It's one of the GOATs. My guest this week is The Gentleman of RTG (and cohost of the Quantum Kickflip podcast), David Rae. Patreon.com/RememberTheGame It's the Halloween season, so we gotta freaky here at RTG, and I can't think of anything scarier than The Addams Family for the NES. Seriously, this game will fuck you up. I genuinely think the skeleton of a good game is buried in here. You control Gomez Addams and explore the family mansion looking for your missing family members. There's puzzle solving, a little bit of exploration, and some fun platforming. It's just weighed down by horrible collision detection and brutal difficulty. Even by NES standards.  That said, I'm a sucker for 'NES tough' games, and my brother and I used to rent this one all the time when e were kids. I'm rolling solo this week and ranting about one of the toughest games I played on the NES, and I hope you like it.  More importantly, I hope the stupid Addams Family song gets stuck in your head like it is in mine. Just awful... And before I yell at a freezer (seriously), I deliver another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks which consoles has had the best exclusive lineup in this stacked year of games? Do I have any nerdy hobbies aside from gaming? And how do I keep track of all the games I've played over the years? Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! And while the graphics might not be anything to write home about in 2023, the game itself holds up pretty well! The stuff I would have liked in 1999, I liked today. And the stuff I would have hated back then still pissed me off anyway haha. My buddy Patrick makes his return to the show this week, and we looked at the lives of Harry, a crazy cat lady, a trapped nurse and a useless cop, all topped with a massive pile of fog. It's Silent Hill, baby! And before we go to work, I deliver another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, I go over the modern games I'm planning to get to between now and the end of the year. What advice would I offer a high school grad in 2023? And I like to do evil playthroughs, but what are the best games to turn bad in?? And with the Remake dropping this week, I figured it's finally time to talk Silent Hill 2. I get why so many people say this is the best game in the series now. Superb video game. Over the past few years of Remember The Game?, I've played Silent Hill 3 & 1, but 2 always got stuck in the backlog. I was a little nervous that when I finally got around to playing it, it wouldn't live up to the years of hype from listeners. And while I still think I prefer Resident Evil for my horror fix, Silent Hill 2 is fantastic. Intriguing (albeit confusing) story, great setting, I liked the characters. Honestly, I can't think of too much about this game I don't like. Except maybe James's inability to stop staring at Maria... My buddy Patrick completes to Silent Hill hat trick on the show this week, and honestly this was one of my favourite episodes of the past few years. We had a great chat about a great game, got into what we interpreted the ending to mean, and pretty well just blew smoke up the ass of Silent Hill for an hour. And before we start checking doors, I stumble through another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks what I think of the "review bombing" trend online these days. Have I ever played one of the LEGO games? And in an era of micro-transactions, employee layoffs, and incomplete games, why does From Software stand out? Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! This one is all Silent Hill: Silent Hill 1, Silent Hill 3, and Silent Hill 4.  Learn more about your ad choices. Our backlog of episodes on Patreon has gotten MASSIVE over the years, so I thought I'd start tossing a freebie on the RTG feed once in a while. Patreon.com/RememberTheGame Batman: Arkham Asylum is such an important video game. It's not just one of the greatest games ever made, but it really kicked off the modern era of superhero games, and I'd argue that it influenced the action genre as a whole. It's about damned time we showed it some love on RTG. Arkham Asylum absolutely dominated our PS3/Xbox 360 poll in November, and I've spent a couple weeks repaying it for the first time in well over ten years. It might feel a litttttttle basic, combat wise, by today's standards, but holy balls does it hold up. Still looks great, plays awesome, and that voice acting? Forget about it. My guest this week is the Robin to my Batman, my buddy Tyler, and we stayed up late Friday night talking about what an incredible game Arkham Asylum is, and what kind of impact it had on the industry moving forward.  And before we visit the Batcave that was built under a prion with nobody noticing which makes absolutely no fucking sense, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks if I have a method to my madness as far as what console I play multi-console games on these days. Would a new Ecco the Dolphin game work in 2024? And if I could pick one game to be a launch title for Nintendo's next console, what would it be? Why was it ported to everything? Because it's awesome! I don't care that it isn't the deepest game ever. Or the best controlling. Or even beatable, frankly. I love this game. Delivering papers to your customers and destroying pretty well your non-subscribers own at the same time. And all while riding your bike and avoiding cars, knife-wielding neighbours, tornados, dogs, and the Grim Reaper. Seriously. My buddy David Rae makes his return to the show this week, and we had a great time talking about how much more fun it is to deliver papers in video games than it is in real life. And before we go to work, I deliver another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, we talk about the prices of some old games today, and whether or not they're reasonable. Enter 2002's Resident Evil, which by the era's standards really wasn't...bad....? I struggle with this one because I like the movie enough, but they really went off the beaten Resident Evil path. The mansion and Umbrella are there, but everything else is pretty new. Including the main protagonist, Alice. The new stuff isn't "bad", it's just not what you'd expect. The laser room scene is pretty dope, too. My guest this week is Remember The Game's resident "evil", my pal Andre. We're both kinda torn on this movie, because like it, but we know it's not really that good. Kinda how I'd describe this podcast, frankly. And before we get evil, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks if I'd ever consider doing a'PG' episode of the show? Why do I hate Disney? And what makes a scary video game a GOOD scary video game? Plus we play a round of 'Watch One, Remake One, Erase One', too! This one features 3 horror gaming flicks: Alone in the Dark, House of the Dead, and Silent Hill. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Subscriptions start at just $2/month, and 5% of our patreon income every month will be donated to our 24 hour Extra-Life charity stream at the end of the year! Patreon.com/RememberTheGame I've been beating the F-Zero drum for years, while showing the series about as much love as Nintendo does. It took TWO HUNDRED AND FIFTY FOUR episodes to cover one of my favourite games of all-time. Simply inexcusable.  But we're trying to right that wrong this week by showing some love to a game that launched not only a franchise, but a console. Yeah, this was an SNES launch title, and I think it speaks to damned good it is that once the Super Nintendo was all said and done, this still stands out as one of the better games in one of the best libraries of all-time. My guest this week is Juris Dr. Mario, long time supporter of the show and one of the generous mofos that donated $1,000 to the Stollery Children's Hospital last year as part of my 24 hour Extra-Life stream. His reward? Good karma and a chance to talk to me. It's a ying/yang thing. But we both loved F-Zero, so in the end, I think it all worked out. And before we blow smoke up that soundtrack's ass, I race through another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, we talk about gamers that seem to hate gaming. On the heels of the Mario RPG announcement, what Nintendo game do I most want to see remade? And will Spider-Gwen ever get her own game? Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! This one features 3 SNES racers: Uniracers, Micro Machines, and Rock N Roll Racing. Learn more about your ad choices. Patreon.com/RememberTheGame A milestone episode calls for a milestone game, and for my stone's money there's no game as big as The Last of Us. Without any exaggeration, I can safely say this is one of my 3 favourite games of all-time. The story is unlike anything I've ever played before. Frankly, it's better than practically every show or movie I've ever watched, too. And then add in incredible acting, awesome gameplay, and one of the most endearing characters in the history of media, and you've got yourself something special. And that ending?? Forget about it! My guest this week is an institution here at RTG Industries, my bosom chum, Mark McCue. We spent an hour and a half praising the hell out of this game, going over the story and characters, and I think we did a damned OK job of explaining why The Last of Us is just so freaking special. And before we look for the Fireflies, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks me what retro gaming podcasts I listen to. How do I deal with haters online? And why the HELL am I not playing Metal Gear Solid Delta?? Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! Patreon.com/RememberTheGame And you can check out Tyler's wheeling and dealings over at: Brimstonepictures.com Facebook.com/brimstonepictures Youtube.com/@s762official We're talking about a bonafide classic and a game many consider to be one of the GOATs this week: Half-Life 2. From the atmosphere, to the story, to the variety in gameplay, to that sick physics engine; Valve knows their way around a video game. We shoulda covered this one a long time ago. I first played Half-Life 2 on my OG Xbox back in the day, and went in totally blind. It made an impression, and as soon as I finished, I knew that I had experienced something special. Replaying it in 2025, I'm happy to say it aged like wine. I was genuinely shocked that none of the game mechanics felt outdated or anything, and the pacing is actually BETTER than some of the games I've played in recent years. What a classic. A game about fighting aliens calls for a conversation with an alien. My buddy Tyler is my guest this week, and I really hope this episode delivers. Tyler was battling a cold, I was battling the influence of the devil's lettuce, and we really got a little more scatterbrained than we usual get on the show. But at the end of the day, it's an hour of 2 guys talking about how great Half-Life 2 is, and that's what you're here for, right? And before we start swinging crowbars, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone says they will never buy a game at full price again. Does anyone else get to the end of a game and then quit for some reason? And what third-party games would make the biggest splash on the Switch 2?? Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! This one features 3 Valve classics: Left 4 Dead, Portal, and Counter-Strike. Learn more about your ad choices. Patreon.com/RememberTheGame And you can check out Daniel's streams at: Twitch.tv/stpd_mnky I might love the Ghostbusters as much as I love video games. Unfortunately, most Ghostbuster video games suck. So when it was announced that a new game, WITH the original cast, was in the works? Well, I lost my freaking mind. I think this game is fan service cranked up to 11. You get to join the Ghostbusters, use a proton pack, hang out at the firehouse, and catch ghosts. Janine is there. Walter Peck shows up. You fight Stay Put, for fuck sakes!!!! I don't think the game under the Ghostbuster makeup is as good as it could be, but at the end of the day it doesn't really matter. When you wanna talk Ghostbusters, who ya gonna call?? My buddy Daniel. We both adore what this game means to the Ghostbusters community, but we also both think it could have been a little better from a gameplay perspective. And how the hell are you not gonna let us drive the Ecto-1?! And before we get to bustin', I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks which gaming magazine I'd read, renew, and remove? Which video game character would make the best Canadian Prime Minister? And why don't I like Retronauts?? Patreon.com/RememberTheGame This week, we're revisiting not one, but TWO of the games we covered back in the baby days of RTG. And it isn't just 2 games, but it's technology. Revolutionary technology. LOCK ON technology. It's Sonic 3 and Sonic & Knuckles! I was an SNES kid, but even back in the day I thought this was the coolest thing ever. I would have lost my mind if Nintendo had released something like this for Super Mario World. Here's a game for our poster child. And here's ANOTHER game for him. With a new character. That you can play as. That's even cooler than the original character. And Michael Jackson worked on the soundtrack. And fuck me, these are cool games. My buddy Kait makes her return to the show this week to talk about 2 of Sonic's best games. I hope y'all LOCK ON to this episode and enjoy it as much as we did. And before we go fast, I deliver another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks why I don't record RTG in person anymore? If I had a few minutes to go back in time and show little Adam a game from today, which one would it be? And are we gonna see more GameCube Switch ports moving forward?? Patreon.com/RememberTheGame And you can find ye olde Bradley McCue here: Instagram: @TheGamingOdyssey Twitch.tv/VideoGameOdyssey For years, the hot dogs have been asking for a DK64 review. I fought it for as long as I could, but much like Homer revisiting New York City, it's time for me to face my demons and talk about this damned game. Donkey Kong 64 is the collectathon of all collectathons. You control 5 different Kongs and make your way through a bunch of levels looking for regular bananas, gold bananas, banana birds, coins, blueprints and more stuff I'm probably forgetting. While it's cool that each Kong plays differently and brings something unique to the table, the constant (FUCKING CONSTANT) swapping between them just leaves a sour taste in my mouth that I can't get over. I don't care for this game. My guest, Bradley McCue, isn't the world's biggest fan either. Frankly, I think he's a little harder on the game than I am. But I think we were tough but fair, showed it some love when it deserved it, and voiced our Donkey Kong 64 frustrations in a calm and reasonable manner for the most part. No Angry Adam. And before we go looking for a fucking Kong barrel to swap monkeys with, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks me to rank the 5 Zelda games I'd most like to see remade. Have I tried one of the remapped N64 controllers? And can we expect more Metroid Prime reviews before Prime 4 drops?? I know, I know haha. Fortunately, his game is a lot cooler than he is. We're talking Shadows of the Empire! I only got into Star Wars about 3 years ago, and once I saw the movies, I had to start playing the games. And I'm happy to say that, six games into the library, I haven't played a "bad" Star Wars video game yet. This one is probably the closest, but I don't think it's bad. It's just an early N64 game. This is one of our "stupid sexy sponsored" episodes, so said sponsor and long-time hot dog, PBRJax, swings by the show to explain why he's such a Dash fan. And then the Chewy to my Han Solo, my buddy Tyler, gives me a call to talk about how none of us can beat this fucking game. And before we save the galaxy, I use the force to summon another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks what my favourite (and least favourite) video games shows/movies are. Should a parent let their kid beat them at video games? And when will I play Baldur's Gate 3!?! Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! Industries' on Spotify now!   JRPGs aren't my favourite flavour of hot dog, but after about 2 months of trying to get into Golden Sun, I finally forced myself to dive in and give it a playthrough. And y'know what? It's delightful! I have a couple minor gripes, and I thought the early part of the game was slower than I am, but for the most part it was a lot of fun. The Djinn system is superb, the graphics are sexy, it sounds great. Honestly, one of the best handheld RPGs I've ever laid my eye(s) on. My buddy Keegs swung by the show this week to talk about lifting stuff, freezing stuff, and basically just psynergying all over the place. We spoil the game, too, so be warned.   And before we psynergize, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro!   This week, someone asks me what my stance on pre-orders is, and if I've ever been burned by one. Am I stoked for the upcoming TMNT: The Last Ronin movie?? And what game did I see in magazines as a kid, but never got a chance to play??   Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! Patreon.com/RememberTheGame And you can check out Bradley's wheelings & dealings at: Instagam: @TheGamingOdyssey Twitch.tv/VideoGameOdyssey I dunno if Miyamoto was just in a bad mood or something, but The Lost Levels is probably his most sadistic creation to date. This game is like Mario Dark Souls. And I don't know what it is about it, but I love it. I like tough platformers, I love Mario games, and this one cranks the difficulty up to about 50. It has to be the hardest (Nintendo published) Mario game ever made. And while it originally didn't make its way over here until Mario All-Stars on the SNES, the original version is available on Switch Online now. Both of them will fuck you up. My guest this week, Bradley McCue, took one for the team and spent over a week plugging away at Lost Levels and fighting the urge to throw his controller to get ready for this podcast, and we have a pretty beefy convo about whether or not Lost Levels is good, too hard, and if it was the right call by Nintendo to not release it in North America back in the day (it was). And before we RAGE, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks if it's wrong to play games on easy these days. Where do I stand on the Slay The Spire board game? And what classic series that HASN'T got the remake treatment yet do I want to see get it the most?? Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! Patreon.com/RememberTheGame I can't think of many gaming franchises I love more than Mega Man. And when you think of the Mega-est of Mega Man games, you have to think of Mega Man 2. While I (slightly) prefer Mega Man 3's harder difficulty and sliding abilities, there's no doubt that Mega Man 2 is the game that made the Blue Bomber a star. 8 robot masters, the most powerful weapon in Mega Man history, an awesome soundtrack, and a more forgiving gameplay loop. As one of our listener's said; "Mega Man 2 is the Mega Man what Terminator 2 is to The Terminator." I'm rolling solo this week, but if there's a franchise I can talk to myself about without a problem, it's Mega Man. I actually go through my personal strategy to tackle the game this week, and along they way I sprinkle in some listener comments and get into what I like, love, and yes, hate, about MM2. And before we kick some robot ass, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks me if my confidence behind the mic has improved over the past 6 years. What GameCube games are must owns? And so we actually miss blowing in the cartridge?? Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! Maniac Mansion was probably my go-to (even though it scared the hell out of me)! I know I'm not the only one that was scared of it either. You control a bunch of high school kids and set out to save a kidnapped girlfriend from a creepy mansion. The game revolves around solving puzzles and utilizing each kid's unique skill set. It's incredible creative, pretty damned funny, and almost impossible for a feeble brain like mine. My buddy Daniel grew up horsing around in mansions as well, and he gives me a call this week to talk about one of the most iconic retro PC games ever made. We had a great time laughing about how tough some of these puzzles were, and dunking on Jeff because the poor guy is as useless as I am. And before we put stuff in microwaves, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone talks about discovering the greatness that is the GBA. A listener corners me over something I said back on RTG #157. And is PS Plus Premium worth it?? Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! But these arcade crashers are winning me over, and Burnout: Revenge might just be the best one I've played so far! No story. No cutscenes. No car upgrades. Hell, no real cars haha. Just cause crashes, make them as big as possible, and do it again. I get why everyone likes this game so much now, I don't know how you couldn't!! Hot Dog extraordinaire ArcAngelOtaku sponsored this episode last year, and I'm so stoked to finally have a chance to ask him why this game means so much to him. And then my pal Joe gives me a call to talk about the Revenge of Burnout, and all 3 of us just end up laughing at how awesomely ridiculous this game is! And before we crash, I deliver another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks what game settings I always change when starting a new game. What was my favourite cartoon growing up? From the horrendous acting (aside from Raul Julia as M. Bison), to the stupid character backstories, I love EVERYTHING about this movie. A classic "it's so bad it's good" flick, and honestly one of my favourite "old" movies I've watched since I started down this cinematic road. My guest this week is our resident fighting game junkie, Mike The Ref. I asked him to explain to a noob like me if any of this is actually canon to the Street Fighter universe, and we had a great time laughing the good (Bison), the bad (Guile), and the ugly (Ken) that was Street Fighter: The Movie. And before we fight in the streets, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks me what the last game on the planet is that I would review on this show. Would I ever consider reviewing games that were never ported to America? And what do I like about being Canadian? Plus we play a rare round of 'WATCH One, Remake One, Erase One', too! People have been asking for this episode for years, and I've always hesitated because I hate (HATE) Metal Gear Solid 2. I was worried the third entry wouldn't click any better than the second one did, and after 15 or so hours of crawling around on my belly and watching cutscenes, I can confirm that that is the case.  I don't like these games.  Fortunately, my guests this week do. Darth Skywalter, hot dog and cool dude, sponsored this episode and swings by to explain why he's such a Snake fan. And then the one and only Bradley McCue completes the Metal Gear/RTG trilogy by giving me a shout and telling me why the ladder doesn't suck as much as I think it does. And before I burn this podcast to the ground, I sneak through another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, we talk about where a new metroidvania player should start. What third-party controllers are worth your money? And could 2023 go down as one of the greatest years in gaming history? What about an entire arcade?? This week I’m talking shop with the owner of Flynn’s Arcade in Margate, Florida.   We talked how he got started, where he gets his cabinets, how he maintains them, his favourite (and least favourite) cabinets, we got into the Billy Mitchell controversy, and so much more.   I know some of you have been asking me for more interview episodes, so I hope you enjoy this one as much as I did!   And before we chase high scores, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro!   This week, someone asks me why/if I’m anti-RPG? I make a few WrestleMania predictions. And why don’t I have any gaming material in my comedy act??   Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! Patreon.com/RememberTheGame And you can find my guest this week, Blaine The Hoagie Man, at: Twitch: Twitch.tv/savagry482_thehoagieman Metroid Prime pops up on so many "best" lists. Best GameCube games. Best Metroidvanias. Best Nintendo games. Best games ever made. But it's not on my "best games I've ever played list", because I've never played it. Until this past week. (And for the record, yeah, it's probably on my best games list now). I tried it a little back when it came out, but I was new to the Metroid series, and the genre, and didn't quite get what it was throwing down. Now that I know what's up, I get why this is still one of the highest scored games on Metacritic and so many people love it. Metroid Prime is fucking sick. Is it my new favourite Metroid game?? hmmmmm....listen and find out. My guest this week is one of the generous moos that made a $1,000 donation to my Extra Life stream last year, Blaine The Hoagie Man. He was stoked to have a chance to talk Prime, and now that I've played it, I get why. This should be fun. And before we fight Metroids, I rip through another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, we revisit the retro game emulation discussion. What do I think of the latest Mario Kart 8 tracks? And where should Fallout 5 take place? Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! This one features 3 Gamecube classics: Luigi's Mansion, Super Mario Sunshine, and StarFox Adventure. Subscriptions start at just $3/month, and 5% of our patreon income every month will be donated to our 24 hour Extra-Life charity stream at the end of the year! Patreon.com/RememberTheGame In case you didn't know, I'm a bit of a Mega Man fan. And while I love most of his games, Mega Man 9 is like one of the best slices of a phenomenal pizza. This game is so...fucking...good. And what's really wild about MM9 is that it kinda came outta nowhere. Mega Man 8 released in the late 90's, and while we had some spin-off games, it seemed like the mainline Mega series was Mega dead. And then all of sudden Capcom announced that a new game was in the works, and it was going back to its classic 8-bit roots. I was excited, but a little skeptical. Fortunately, it turned out that they not only reached, but exceeded my expectations. Mega Man 9 is beloved by practically every Mega Man fan, and with good reason. It might just be the best game in the series. I'm rolling solo this week. I'm excited to kick off a new year of the show, and what better way than by talking about a game I could ramble about for hours without coming up for air. Let's talk Mega Man! And before I get Mega, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks what retro consoles I currently own, and which ones am I looking to pick up? Have I ever scrapped an episode of the show because I wasn't happy with it? And a listener wonders if they should scold their son for not holding "run" while playing Mario? Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! This one features 3 of the highest rated Capcom games on Metacritic: Street Fighter 4, Devil May Cry, and Resident Evil: Code Veronica! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Patreon.com/RememberTheGame And you can check out Daniel's streams at: Twitch.tv/stpd_mnky People have been telling me to review Donkey Kong '94 for years, and with Nintendo finally adding it to the Switch Online library, I figured 'why not?' And I'll tell ya, damned if this isn't one of the best games in the entire Game Boy library. A hidden gem among hidden gems. DK '94 is more than just a Game Boy version of the OG Donkey Kong. It starts that way, but they add like 100 additional puzzle levels once you get through the traditional 4. You play as Mario and your objective is to retrieve a key and make your way to a locked door without being killed by enemies, falling to your death, or running out of time. The levels get more complicated as you go on, and when you toss in some great DK boss fights, you get as charming of puzzle game as I've ever played. My guest this week is our resident Stpd Mnky, my buddy Daniel. We both played through this one for the first time over the past few days and both agree that it really does stack up against the best the Game Boy has to offer. A must-play as far as we're concerned. And before we tackle DK, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks what gaming might look like 10 years from now? How am I feeling about Game Pass these days? And do I have any plans to check out the Outlast movie?? Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! Patreon.com/RememberTheGame And you can check out Daniel's streams at: Twitch.tv/stpd_mnky Look, I know there's a few PC Master Racers amongst our ranks, and I wanted to mend the bridge between us. So I ran a PC only Patreon Poll, and The Secret of Monkey Island took it down. I have to be honest, point & click games aren't my jam. But this one is so damned charming it almost makes up for that. I can't imagine there's too many people listening to this show that don't know point & click games. Select commands like "open", "pick up", "use", and combine them with items on the screen to solve puzzles. I think some of the puzzles in Monkey Island a little tedious, but even with one eye I can see how people love this game. It really is funny, and the humour and clever writing offset the occasional frustration I experienced while trying to kill pirates with root beer. One good monkey deserves another, so my guest this week is my buddy Daniel (Stpd_Mnky). He likes this game more than I do, and while we made not have felt the same way about the sword fighting system or how to make a soup or whatever the fuck it is with the cereal, we had a good time laughing at some of the dialogue and puzzles. And we're still not sure what the secret of said island is... And before we point and click, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, we HAD to talk about the Switch 2. How do those of us that dislike multiplayer games get into them? And I love Bioshock, but how do I feel about the sequels?? Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! This one features 3 PC classics: King's Quest VI, Day of the Tentacle, and Sam and Max. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
02 Apr 2025Expansion Pass #14 - The Last Of Part II Spoiler-Free Review01:03:09
We skip the first Wednesday of the month to give me time to pay the games for RTG, but fortunately we have a backlog of about 1,000 podcasts on Patreon to draw from to fill in the gaps. And this week I have not one, but TWO freebies for y'all. With season 2 of The Last of Us right around the corner, and the second game dropping on PC this week, I'm tossing both my spoiler-free review AND my spoiler-cast up for free. I recorded these back in July of 2022, right after I finished my first playthrough of The Last of Us Part II. After replaying it in 2025 I think I like it a little more than I did back at launch, but most of my thoughts still stand. Hope you enjoy the episode(s)! Learn more about your ad choices. Patreon.com/RememberTheGame And you can find ye olde Bradley McCue here: Instagram: @TheGamingOdyssey Twitch.tv/VideoGameOdyssey I love Capcom, and I love the NES. When those put those 2 together, you get games like Chip N' Dale and DuckTales. You also the occasionally-overlooked-but-really-solid Darkwing Duck. Let's get dangerous. This one definitely has a little more bite than some of the previous Capcom Disney games. Everyone told me there's a splash of Mega Man in this one, and I agree. Both because you can choose the order you tackle the levels in, and because it's gonna kill you a lot. But I rarely found it "cheap" tough. It was just one of those games that you keep playing and you get good at. Solid soundtrack, good graphics. My only real complaint is that I wish there was more of it. My buddy Bradley McCue returns to the show this week. And while we both kinda drop the ball when it comes to our Darkwing Duck knowledge (something I'm ashamed of because I love this show), we both agreed that Capcom was in the zone back in this era. And while we may not be convinced that DD belongs in the same conversation as DuckTales and Chip N' Dale, it's a game well worth your time. As long as you're not a controller thrower. And before we get dangerous, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks is I'd consider taking the VR plunge if tactical RPGs were VR experiences. Did I ever help my little brother beat games as a kid? And what comes first: Half Life 3, GTA 7, or world peace?? Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! Patreon.com/RememberTheGame And you can check out Tyler's wheeling and dealings over at: Brimstonepictures.com Facebook.com/brimstonepictures Youtube.com/@s762official We wrap up October with the winner of our scary game poll - Alien: Isolation. Some say this might be the scariest game ever made, and I agree, but not for the right reasons. I love the Alien franchise, but I HATE this game. The concept is cool. You play as Ellen Ripley's daughter, and you have to escape a ship full of Aliens, killer robots, and hostile staff. It's a great idea, and the first-person concept works perfectly. But it's also a stealth game, and I fucking HATE stealth games. You spend this whole game hiding in lockers or under desks and after about 6 hours of snoozing and losing, I rage quit as hard as I've ever rage quit a game. Tyler returns to the show this week, and he may not hate this game QUITE as much as I do, but he's not a fan either. We don't think it's a "lazy" game, but we don't think it's fun. Fucking game... And before we talk about that stupid Alien, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks if I think we'll ever get another Mega Man game? Would I recommend the Steam Deck to someone that just lost their Switch? And if I could be a fly on the wall and oversee a game's development, what would I pick? Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! This one features 3 Alien games: Alien vs Predator, Alien 3, and Alien Trilogy. Learn more about your ad choices. Patreon.com/RememberTheGame When most people think of first-person shooters on the Nintendo 64, I think 3 games come to mind: Goldeneye 007, Perfect Dark, and Turok: Dinosaur Hunter. We've already covered the first 2 (as I played the hell out of them back in the day), but I'd never touched Turok until a few weeks ago. It's time to hunt dinosaurs.  Turok's a weird game. Not because I don't understand the story or because I think the controls are weird, but because it's just...there. It's not BAD, but I don't know if it's good. If I had played it growing up, I'm confident I woulda loved it, but by 2023 standards, it's kinda empty. But the core gameplay is fun enough to keep me from hating it. My pal Tyler is my guest this week, and we're talking endless waves of enemies, MASSIVE levels, weird enemies and exploding arrows on this episode of RTG. And before we look for keys, I trek through another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, we get into what the premiere launch title for Nintendo's next console could be. Why am I so scared of Kingdom Hearts?? And what NES game (that I haven't played before) do I want to play the most?? Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! I've slowly been going back and checking out all the flicks I missed from back in the day, and one of the ones that's always stood out to me is 2005's DOOM. I've heard it sucked, but I figured "I like The Rock, I like Doom, how bad can it be?" Turns out, it can be pretty, pretty, pretttyyy bad. This might be the worst movie I've ever seen in my life. My buddy Andre and I broke down the DOOM movie this week. From the shitty storyline, to the bad acting, to the crappy characters and horrible ending, this movie is awful. If you've never seen, listen to this instead, and thank us for saving you some pain. And before we rip on this stupid movie, I burn through another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks how a game makes the cut to get on this stupid show of ours. Would modern game manuals convince people to buy physical copies of games? Patreon.com/RememberTheGame The NES had so, so many licensed games back in the day, and a lot of them sucked. Forunately, a few gems were laying among the garbage, and Tiny Toon Adventures was one of them! It's a classic platformer, and you control Buster, Plucky, Dizzy and Furball as they set out to rescue Babs from Montana Max. It's not particularly long, but it's pretty tough (looking at YOU, World 4), and a nice change of pace from the Mario games we've all played a million times. Why the hell haven't we gotten a Tiny Toon game collection yet?!! I'm rolling solo this week, but I take a deep dive into one of my favourite games from my childhood and walk you through every level in Tiny Toon Adventures. If you've never played it, I'll make you feel like you have. And if you HAVE played it, you probably haven't gotten past World 4, so I'll tell you what's waiting on the other side. And before we get toony and loony (not the Canadian coins), I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone brings up concerns with the amount of storage space on modern consoles. Who would be on my wrestling Mt. Rushmore? And has RTG made me a better gamer?? These two, who grew up on opposite sides of the Sega/Nintendo divide, embark on a thrilling journey through the gaming landscape. Together, they challenge each other to revisit and play the gems they missed in the gaming golden days. The SNES RPG library is the stuff of legend, so it's easy for the lesser known games to slip through the cracks. Lufia II is one of those titles, and I'm here to tell you it's a game worth exploring said crack for. I'd never played, or heard of it, before this episode, but it's like a standard Final Fantasy RPG meets The Legend of Zelda. You fight battles in classic turn-based RPG combat, but outside of that you solve puzzles and blow up walls like you would in A Link to the Past. I don't love RPGs, but this one hooked me.  I have two guests this week. Long-time hot dog, Jnasty, sponsored this episode and got me playing Lufia II in the first place, so he swings by to explain why he's so hot for Sinistrals. And then our power hungry Discord mod, Captain N, gives me a shout to take a deep dive into feeding monsters shields whilee navigating the glitchiest dungeon to ever glitch (it'll all make sense after you listen). And before we save the world, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone calls for an end to micro-transactions. Will I ever review Cyberpunk 2077? And is Mario 64 a horror game??? Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! Patreon.com/RememberTheGame We've been talking about covering Jak & Daxter for YEARS! I just needed to find time to replay it first. I finally squeezed it in, and I'm happy to say it's as fun as I remember. I love this damned game. If you've never played, it's your classic 3D platforming collect-a-thon. But the charming characters, crisp graphics, and interactions between Jak and Daxter put it alongside Banjo Kazooie, Ratchet & Clank, and Sly Cooper as one of my favourite non-Mario platformers of all-time. I haven't been able to put it down for a week, just hit the 100% mark yesterday, and I'm ready to (finally) tell you all about why I love this game so much, and why you should, too. Years ago, I promised my buddy Andre that I'd have him on the show if we ever talked Jak & Daxter, and the time has come. I hope this episode lives up to the hype for those of you that have been waiting forever for it, and once we're talking talking orbs, we spend a few minutes speculating about the future of the series, too. And before we swim in eco, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks how I feel about emulating modern games if you already own them. Where did sports game developers go wrong? And are there any myths about Canada I want to confirm or deny? Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! Patreon.com/RememberTheGame The PlayStation 2 has one of the most stacked libraries in gaming history. So when Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time beat out a bunch of games to win the PS2 Patreon Poll, I was intrigued. And after playing the game, I totally get it. Sands of Time is awesome. I love these puzzle platforming-esque games, and you can see the DNA of so many gems from today in Sands of Time. The controls can be a little irritating at times, but the action, that dope rewind function, some humorous voice acting and the reasonably tight combat kept me invested for me entire 10-ish hour playthrough. My buddy Daniel played this one back when it came out. I finished it about 5 hours before we recorded. But 2 decades doesn't change the fact that a good game is a good game. And Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is a good fucking game. And before we play with sand, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks if I'm getting more concerned about game preservation as online stores on classic consoles start shutting down. Who are my video game crushes? And this week, we have a big one for you. Back in 2023, Mark McCue joined me to talk about The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. We kept the base review pretty spoiler-free, and then tacked on a spoiler cast at the end to talk about the finale of the game and some other stuff. Patreon.com/RememberTheGame NBA Jam tackled our Patreon Poll a couple months ago, and people were shocked to find out that I've...never...played it...before.  Seriously. People have been yelling at me for weeks. But I'm remedied that. I may not know the players, the lingo, or the rules, but I know a good game when I see one. And NBA Jam is the fucking. Shit. My buddy Brad agrees, and we're all up in the rim talking about one of the greatest sports games ever made this week. And before we pass the rock, I stumble through another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, we discusss whether or not Sony is making a mistake putting their exclusives on PC. If I had to set a speed-run record for any game, what would I pick? And aside from blowing in the cartridge, what did we do to make our old games work? Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! This one features 3 sports classics: NHL Hitz, NFL Blitz, and NBA Street. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

This might just be the funniest game ever made. And it's not only hilarious, but it's a serviceable RPG, too! I don't think there's enough meat on the bone here to satisfy diehard JRPG fans that don't know anything about South Park, but if you have even a passing interest in the show, I think The Stick of Truth is a must-play. It's like a season of the show was turned into a video game, and it's brilliant. My buddy Andre has been asking to come on the show to talk about The Stick of Truth for years, and the time has finally come. Call upon Paladin Butters, recruit Jimmy the Bard, and keep your eyes peeled for ManBearPig. I'm so fucking stoked for this episode! And before we fart on each other, I deliver another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, we talk about the PS Plus price increase. Did Xbox fuck up by banning third-party controllers? And what is Thanksgiving like in Canada? Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! 10 Apr 2024Expansion Pass #157 - SNES Draft01:11:38
We have over 500 bonus podcasts in our Patreon archives at this point, so I like to toss a freebie on here now and then. Plus I lost my voice this week, so it's win/win. We've done a few game draft episodes now (the NES draft is available here on the RTG feed) and they always go over well, so I thought I'd toss our Super Nintendo draft up here this week. 4 regular RTG guests each draft 10 SNES games and try to build the best library possible! 13 Jul 2023Expansion Pass #124 - The 10 Best Games I've Discovered Since Starting RTG01:05:58
Our backlog of episodes on Patreon has gotten MASSIVE over the years, so I thought I'd start tossing a freebie on the RTG feed once in a while. On this episode, I countdown the 10 best retro games I've played for the first time since starting 'Remember The Game?'. This episode originally went live for Patreon on August 17, 2022. If you enjoy this episode, consider supporting us on Patreon. You'll get instant access to our entire back catalog (ad-free) and new podcasts EVERY week! 05 Mar 2025Expansion Pass #189 - The Sony PlayStation01:07:19
We skip the first Wednesday of the month to give me time to pay the games for RTG, but fortunately we have a backlog of about 1,000 podcasts on Patreon to draw from to fill in the gaps. And this week, we're turning the nostalgia knob all the way up and looking back at the first console I ever bought with my own money, and the one that changed the gaming landscape forever, the original Sony PlayStation. Anyone that was around in the 90's remembers what a big deal this thing was. Metal Gear, Final Fantasy, Crash Bandicoot, Resident Evil, Spyro; the list goes on and on. I love this system as much as the rest of you, so we dedicated an entire podcast to blowing smoke up its memory card slot. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Subscriptions start at just $3/month, and 5% of our patreon income every month will be donated to our 24 hour Extra-Life charity stream at the end of the year! Patreon.com/RememberTheGame We're back with a bang this week. I've been calling for more F-Zero for years and figured it was time to start showing the series more love on RTG. So it's all about the superb F-Zero X for the N64 this week. Possibly the fastest game of the 90s? I didn't play this one much growing up, but I was blown away (George! Blow blow blow blow blow blowwwwwwn away) by how fast and smooth this one runs for a freaking Nintendo 64 game. More racers, more tracks, better soundtrack, higher speeds; it's the SNES game on steroids. And it's one of the best games on the 64. My guest this week is PENDING RTG Hall of Famer, Mark McCue, and we showed F-Zero some love this week. We both suck at this game but it didn't stop us from talking about how awesome it is, and we got into the potential future of the franchise, too. And before we try and push other drivers to their doom, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks what it means to "100%" a game these days. Does anyone else hate it when people say "get good"??? And why do I like playing the "evil" playthroughs of games? Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! This one features 3 N64 heavies: Wave Race 64, Star Fox 64, and Pilotwings 64. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
25 Sep 2024Expansion Pass #134 - The 10 Scariest Games I've Ever Played01:00:48
We have over 650(!) bonus podcasts in our Patreon archives at this point, so I like to toss a freebie on here now and then. We need a little time to prep for a month of scary reviews in October, so I wanted to set the tone around RTG Industries. I've never hidden the fact that I'm a wimp who doesn't like scary things, but I am started to warm up to scary video games. So on this week's episode, I'm counting down the 10 scariest games I've ever played. If you enjoy this, we have a TON more waiting for you on Patreon (ad-free, too!). 25 Dec 2024The Rambling Idiot - Molly00:36:11
I'll warn you right now: this one is a tear-jerker. We had to put our dog, Molly, down this month, and I wanted to wrap the year up talking about her legacy and how much we love that dog. No ads on this one, but you might not want to listen at work if you're a crier. Have a great holiday, show your pets some love, and we'll see you in 2025. Learn more about your ad choices. Patreon.com/RememberTheGame And you can check out Tyler's (incredibly rad) projects at: YouTube.com/s762official This week, we're going back to the stars and talking Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy. I'm still a Star Wars newb, but I have yet to play a game based on Luke and friends that I haven't liked. That streak continues with Jedi Academy. The story is ok, the force powers are cool, and the lightsaber mechanics are fucking insane!! I know a lot of people are all about the multiplayer for this one, but as I'm sure you're used to by now, I only play by myself. As did one of my guests, and the stupid sexy sponsor of this episode, Vic Vinegar. So we had a nice chat about trying to kill that little shit Rosh (you know you want to) and about our favourite Force perks. And then my pal Tyler swings by the show to talk about the zany adventures he's had online with this damned game. Let's go to school! Or the Academy. Whatever. And before we play with our sabres, I deliver another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks how to alphabetize their games when it comes to titles that start with 'The'. How should people that get motion sick tickle modern video games? And what sports movies would make great sports games? Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! Patreon.com/RememberTheGame And pick up some tickets to Mark's show at: www.painted fish.ca Is it worthy of being called 'Super Mario World 2'? Maybe not from a Mario perspective. But from a platforming perspective? 10000%. We're taking another look at Yoshi's Island this week! I know some people hate on Baby Mario crying (I don't think it's THAT bad), but just about everything else this game does is spectacular. The platforming, graphics, soundtrack, level mechanics, and exploration are all top shelf, and it's actually one of the more challenging Nintendo platformers from back in the day, too. Pending RTG Hall of Famer, Mark McCue, is my guest this week, and we're taking a second look at the the second Mario World (don't fucking call it that, though). Let's toss some eggs. And before we eat everything, I puke up another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, we talk about Xbox's commitment to backwards compatibility, and if they've taken their eyes off the prize. I answer a few questions about the business side of the show. And how is Mario RPG Remake treating me? Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! Patreon.com/RememberTheGame And show Bradley some love: Instagram: TheGamingOdyssey Twitch.tv/VideoGameOdyssey If you grew up playing Nintendo early 90's, you watched the Super Mario Bros Super Show. Does it suck today? Eh, maybe a little. But for so many of us, Captain Lou Albano will always be our Mario.  I was always crushed when I'd turn it on and find stupid Link and his stupid "Excuuuuuse me, Princess" face. Fortunately, most days it was Mario and Luigi hanging out in their basement apartment/shop in front of a studio audience with celebrities, and that was followed by the sweetest cartoon ever drawn. The animation sucked, but whatever. My buddy Bradley McCue swings by the show this week, and despite the fact that we grew up watching this show in two totally different eras, we had a blast looking back on a massive part of our childhoods. Hey Pisanos! It's the Super Mario Bros. Super Show! And before we go plumbing, I deliver another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks if I'd ever consider reviewing games from some of the lesser known retro consoles. What am I gonna play now that I'm done with Mario Wonder and Spider-Man 2?? And why do people like "war" games so much? Plus we play a rare round of 'Watch One, Remake One, Erase One', too! You can browse the entire catalog by searching for 'Remember The Game? Industries' on Spotify now!   We all had those games we rented over & over when we were kids, and for me and my bro, Spy vs Spy was one of them. It's one of the best PvP experiences on the NES, and I'm ready to help some of you learn how to play it! (Seriously!) It's split-screen multiplayer, where you play as the Spies of MAD Magazine fame. You run around a maze of rooms collecting items you need to win the game while planting boobytraps in an attempt to stop your opponent from doing the same. It could be pretty confusing without a manual, but I genuinely think the game has an awesome concept, and I'm ready to show it a l'il love on my l'il podcast. I'm rolling solo this week, but I have so much nostalgia for this show that I had no problem wasting an hour of time talking into a microphone. Let me waste an hour of your time, too.   And before we blow shit up, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro!   This week, someone asks who I'd love to have on the show if could. What ever happened to our 'Top Secret Episodes' from the early days of our Patreon?? And what are my Steam Deck recommendations??   Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! Subscriptions start at just $3/month, and 5% of our patreon income every month will be donated to our 24 hour Extra-Life charity stream at the end of the year! Patreon.com/RememberTheGame Every year as part of our Extra-Life stream, we auction off a chance to be my guest on an episode of the show. Last year's winner picked Mass Effect 3, and even though it took us a year to get it done, it's time to talk a great game, from a great series, for a great cause. (Spoilers within!!) I'd hear an argument that Mass Effect is the greatest trilogy in video game history. Incredible setting, fun gameplay, awesome story, and the decisions you make ACTUALLY matter. And not just for the game you're playing, but for the entire trilogy. Stuff you did in Mass Effect 1 can have a direct impact on how Mass Effect 3 plays out. This one sees Shepard flying around the galaxy uniting everyone to take on the Reapers in a final standoff, and it plays as epic as it sounds. My guest this week is, as I mentioned, one of the winners of our charity auction from last year, and a long-time hot dog, Ian. We talked for almost an hour and a half about the many highs (and occasional "lows") of not only Mass Effect 3, but the Mass Effect trilogy as a whole. And before we save the galaxy, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks what it would take for Capcom to show Mega Man the love they show their bigger franchises. Should they bring back character specific weapons for Mario Kart 9? And now that I'm a COD guy, will I finally cover one on RTG?? Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! 02 Apr 2025Expansion Pass #15 - The Last Of Part II SpoilerCast00:56:09
Patreon.com/RememberTheGame And you can find ye olde Bradley McCue here: Instagram: @TheGamingOdyssey Twitch.tv/VideoGameOdyssey I have played a LOT of NES in my life, so it takes a pretty special game to crack my favourite NES games list at this point. But damned if Castlevania III hasn't pulled it off. This game is spectacular. It takes everything the original Castlevania did and pumps it full of steroids. More levels, optional routes, additional playable characters, multiple endings. I say it on this week's show and I stand by it - there are two groups of people: People that think Castlevania III is one of the best games in the NES library, and people that have never played Castlevania III. My resident Castlevania guest, Bradley McCue, gives me a call this week. We praise this game, talk about what a beast Alucard is, Bradley teaches me a little about Castlevania history, and we both admit that while we want to, neither of us can beat this damned game... And before we go vampire hunting, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks me which franchise I regret missing out on as a kid. Do I have any gaming takes that I've 180'd on over the years? And what games did I pick up on Black Friday? Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! Patreon.com/RememberTheGame Viewtiful Joe took down 63 games in our 2024 Pre-March Madness tournament, and I'm so stoked that it did. It's one of the coolest games I've ever played, even if I can't finish it because I'm constantly rage-quitting. If you've never played it, it's a side-scrolling beat em 'up, but with the extra hook of superpowers. You can slow everything down, speed everything up, and zoom the camera in while doing it. Those abilities makes the combat infinitely more fun, and you use them to solve puzzles too. Oh, and the game is tough. Really fucking tough. Normally I'd toss my controller away at some point and give up, but the addictive combat just keeps me coming back for one more try. Viewtiful Keegs gave me a call (literally, he's on vacation so we had to do this one over the phone) to talk about what makes this game so cool. Seriously, it's really fucking cool. We also got into how we both suck at it, and then we slapped some Hall of Fame worthy scores on top to wrap everything up. And before we get Viewtiful, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks if I ever watched my parents play games back in the day. Are there any niche games my brother and I grew up playing? And did I play Tiger handhelds as a kid? Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! Subscriptions start at just $2/month, and 5% of our patreon income every month will be donated to our 24 hour Extra-Life charity stream at the end of the year! Patreon.com/RememberTheGame Back in November, I held my annual 24 hour stream to raise money for the Stollery Children's Hospital here in Edmonton. And four generous mo-fos each donated $1,000 for the opportunity to come on the show and talk games with me. This is the first of those four mo-fos.  Captain N has selected Dark Cloud for the PS2. I know some of you love this game, so be warned: I do not. I think the city-building and randomly generated dungeons are rad, but the tedious combat, breakable weapons and stupid fucking thirst meter kept me from really falling in love.  Some of you love it. Some of you hate it. Either way, we're gonna lift this dark cloud by talking about Dark Cloud on the show this week! And before we break our weapons and yell at Toro, I stumble through another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, we discusss whether or not games from today will hold their value like retro games do. Is Tears of the Kingdom a good "jump-in" point for a new Zelda fan? And what game have me and the hot dogs disagreed on the most? Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! This one features 3 PS2 RPGs: Kingdom Hearts, Suikoden III, and Dragon Quest 8. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Patreon.com/RememberTheGame And you can check out Tyler's wheeling and dealings over at: Brimstonepictures.com Facebook.com/brimstonepictures Youtube.com/@s762official I love Jurassic Park. Phenomenal movie. Outstanding book. I figured the SNES game had to be great too, right? Wrong. I'd rather share a bathroom with Dennis Nedry than play this fucking game... The concept is solid. It's part top-down shooter, part first-person shooter. Dinosaurs are running wild, the soundtrack is great. It should be fun. But the non-stop deaths, running around aimlessly looking for ID cards, and the tedious/slow first-person segments just shut it down before it gets started. Poor Tyler is my guess this week, and we were on the same page for this one - Jurassic Park sucks. That dickhead Angry Adam even makes an appearance this week. I tried to stop him, but this game... And before we talk about this big pile of shit, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks about having too much to play and not being able to choose a game to stick with. Did I ever play gams on my graphing calculator? And what's my focus for my retro game collection these days?? Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! Patreon.com/RememberTheGame And you can find Andrew's Twitch hiking over at: https://www.twitch.tv/bucklox27 Little Nemo: The Dream Master is unquestionably the single most requested game in RTG history, albeit by 2 people. It's a charming little NES platformer where you feed animals candy until they pass out, and then you wear their skin. Seriously. If it sounds kinda messed up, well, it is. But it's also a really fun, kinda tough NES game, and it's made by Capcom, so it has to be decent at worst. I remember seeing it in magazines as a kid, and renting it a couple times. I used to think it was too hard, but playing it now I find it most beatable (that final level is pretty rough). Getting to play as the various animals is cool, and hey, who doesn't love poisonous candy? My guest this week is the man that has been on me to cover this game for 5+ years, long-time hot dog, Awright/Andrew. I asked him why he loves this game so much, and we ranked the various animal costumes, went through all the levels, and made fun of how fucked up the premise of the game is. This was a good time. And before we feed animals candy, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks me for Steam Deck recommendations. What's a good game for someone to try tactical RPGs with? And how often do people make bad puns with my last name?? Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! This one features 3 lesser-known Capcom NES games: Strider, Code Name: Viper, and Bionic Commando. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Subscriptions start at just $3/month, and 5% of our patreon income every month will be donated to our 24 hour Extra-Life charity stream at the end of the year! Patreon.com/RememberTheGame I've said it a thousand times and I'll keep beating the drum: video games are art. And Psychonauts is as artistic as any game I've played for this podcast. A funky ass platformer starring a kid with psychic powers that scapes the circus and runs off to psychic power summer camp. The levels take place in the minds of the people at this camp, and you do stuff like battling Napoleon in a board game, crushing a fish city Ala Godzilla, and solving the age old question of "who is the Milkman?"  This game came out on top of our Xbox Patreon Poll back in October, and I have to say, I'm glad it has the cult following that it does, because I'm drinking the kool-aid. Minus that last level. Fuck that level. My buddy Patrick agrees, as you'll hear when you listen in on the phone call we had about Tim Schafer's Psychonauts. And before we find the milkman, I use my powerful brain to put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks if indie games have overtaken AAA games from a quality standpoint? Do I ever check out the speed run charity events? And since we're talking Psychonauts, what psychedelics have I played with in the past? Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! This one features 3 OG Xbox games: Jade Empire, Ninja Gaiden, and Jet Set Radio Future! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Patreon.com/RememberTheGame And you can check out Captain N's Retrotopia Podcast here: https://retrotopiapodcast.podbean.com/ People have been bugging me to review Rocket Knight Adventures for years, and now that I finally have, I get why. This is one of the finest 16-bit platforms I've ever played. One of those Genesis games that makes me jealous as a Super Nintendo kid. You control a possum in a suit of armour with a sword and a rocket pack, and you fight pigs as you travel from a village to outer space. I...well...it makes sense when you play it. Kinda. The controls are crisp and the rocket pack mechanic really takes the gameplay to the next level. Great variety between stages, an awesome soundtrack, sharp graphics, and it's the way all retro games should be: tough as fuck. I love this game. I crossed the retro podcast streams this week and asked Captain N of the Retrotopia podcast to join me, and we spent nearly an hour singing the praises of this possum and his adventures. I can say this game is a lock for my top 10 Genesis games now, and it's knocking on the door of the very exclusive top 5 club... And before we rocket away, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks what my favourite part of RTG is? Are there too many rouge-like card combat games these days? And if I could host one major TV gameshow, which would it be? Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! This one features 3 of my all-time favourite Genesis games: Shining Force, Gunstar Heroes, and Streets of Rage 2. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
20 Nov 2024Expansion Pass #220 - Ranking Every Nintendo Console01:11:09
Sorry for the missing RTG everyone, I'm taking a couple weeks away from the show for personal reasons. But fortunately, our Patreon archives are full of hundreds of bonus podcasts, so you'll still get your fix. This week, I'm ranking every Nintendo console of all-time. I've never hidden the fact that I'm a Nintendo fanboy, so this was like ranking my children (and the Virtual Boy). If you enjoy this, we have a TON more waiting for you on Patreon (ad-free, too!). It's about time we showed the arcades of yesteryear a little more love. This episode originally aired for Patreons on January 3, 2024. Thanks for all the support in 2024, and here's to a great 2025! Patreon.com/RememberTheGame And you can check out Bradley's wheelings & dealings at: Instagam: @TheGamingOdyssey Twitch.tv/VideoGameOdyssey Growing up, I hardly touched Castlevania, or the Sega Genesis. But these days, I'm a fan of both. And they go together like peanut butter and chocolate with Castlevania Bloodlines, which is now one of my favourite Genesis games! I've really grown to appreciate the Castlevania series, and for my money, these games are at their peak on 16-bit hardware. It's safe to say that Super Castlevania IV and Bloodlines are now my favourite Vania games. This one looks great, plays great, and of course, it's tough; just the way I like my retro titles. Ye olde Bradley McCue returns to the show this week, both to talk about how much he loves this game, and to try to explain the story to me, because I'm absolutely fucking lost. Great game, killer guest, mediocre podcast. Why WOULDN'T you listen?! And before we hunt vampires or something, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks for advice with some rare items in their game collection. Will we ever cover PS4/XBox One games on RTG? And with all these layoffs, is the video game market crashing?? Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! This one features 3 Konami Genesis titles: Rocket Knight Adventures, Contra: Hard Corps, and Sunset Riders. This week, we're talking Twisted Metal:Black, which is the best game in one of the coolest franchises in the history of gaming. I fell in love with the Twisted Metal series on the original PlayStation, so when I saw a next-gen version of the series on PS2, I couldn't resist. And they didn't just live up to my expectations, they blew 'em out of the water. The graphics and combat were rock solid, and the morbid, dark, twisted backstories of each character (those cutscenes!) were insane. I hate that this series seems to be dead on the vine, but you can always (and should always) go back to Twisted Metal: Black for car combat perfection. My guest this week was the guy that broke down the OG Twisted Metal games with me a few years ago, my pal Andre. And we both agreed that this game stands up as not only the best Twisted Metal, but one of the best games in the PlayStation 2's legendary library. And before we twist metal, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks straight up, what means more to me: retro gaming or modern gaming? We're covering The Last of Us for episode 300 next week, what version should you play to get ready for it? And have I ever tried to repair a console myself? Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! This one features 3 car combat games: Vigilante 8, WWE Crush Hour, and Carmageddon. Learn more about your ad choices. Patreon.com/RememberTheGame We're double dipping on Donkey Kong. Last week we talked about the OG arcade game, and this week we're talking about the hidden gem of the DK franchise: Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble! For some reason, people seem to think I hate this game, and that couldn't be further from the truth. Do I think it's the third best game in the DKC trilogy? Yes. But I'd also put that trilogy up against just about any platforming trilogy ever made. I don't hate this game at all. I just hate Kiddy Kong. My guest this week is long-time supporter of the show, Carbon Fibre Zombie (real name, as far as I know). We spent over an hour talking about why this game struggles to shine in the shadows of its older brothers, and why it shouldn't because it's still awesome. We also sing the praises of the greatest Kong of all-time (Dixie) and dump a little on the worst Kong (Kiddy) And before we eat bananas, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks if I had to choose, would I only play my favourite games of all-time, or all the other games ever made?? What the hell is going on with our Subreddit??? And where do/did I stand on POGs?? Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! Patreon.com/RememberTheGame It's a BIG week for the Ninja Turtles with Mutant Mayhem hitting theatres, and I needed a game for this week's episode while I work on playing through Turok: Dinosaur Hunter (which will be next week's show), so I figured let's be topical AND talk about an awesome game at the same time. This week's all about Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III: The Manhattan Project for the NES. When most people think of TMNT on the NES, they probably either think of the first game (electric seaweed, anyone?), or the Arcade game port. Manhattan Project came out toward the end of the NES's lifespan, and it's a real shame more people didn't play it, because it's a bonafide gem of a beat 'em up, and it improves on TMNT 2: The Arcade Game in practically every possible way. I'm rolling solo this week, and I had no trouble gushing about this game. My brother and I used to rent it all the time, and between the better graphics, improved combat, special moves and ABILITY TO SWAP TURTLES WHEN YOU DIE, I think this is not only one of the best TMNT games ever made, but one of the best NES games, as well. And before we explore Manhattan, I surf through another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks if I think gaming will ever be 100% streaming focused? What game that we've covered on the show needs a remaster the most? And remember Xbox Live Arcade? Of course you do. Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! Patreon.com/RememberTheGame And you can find my guest this week, McG, at: Twitter: @FuzzyGross Twitch: Twitch.tv/the_mcg I've grown quite fond of old Sega games. Golden Axe, Altered Beast, Wonder Boy; all excellent. So I was hoping Space Harrier would scratch the same itch, and I'm happy to say, I've been scratched. This game is dope. It's as simple as I am, but as tough as I'm not. It kinda feels like F-Zero meets Galaga (I know F-Zero came out after it), and while it doesn't do much, the stuff it does does, it does really well. My guest this week is an OG hot dog and one of the guys that made a $1,000 donation to my Extra Life stream last year, McG. He grew up a Master System kid, a Space Harrier fan, and he took me to the church of Sega this week. Insert whatever you're supposed to say at the church here. Amen? And before we harry it up in space, I race through another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks if consoles could be on the way out, and one platform for all games could be on its way in? Will Fire Emblem ever get some RTG love? And what are my favourite Mario Kart tracks of all-time? Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! Patreon.com/RememberTheGame And you can check out Bradley's Twitch streams at: Twitch.tv/VideoGameOdyssey It's one of our world-renowned 'revisited' episodes this week, and we're taking another look at the game I consider to be the best looking, and possibly best playing, in the entire Game Boy library; The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening. If you didn't grow up in this era, I could see how you might write Awakening off. The inventory system is a pain in the ass, it's easy to get lost, and compared to something like Link to the Past, it might seem a little basic. But for those of us that were obsessed with the SNES Zelda in the mid 90's, having a competent portable adaption like this to keep us busy on the road was mind blowing. To this day, Link's Awakening is a contender for my top 5 Zelda games. I can't talk Zelda on this show without a McCue brother popping up, and Bradley gave me a call this week to talk about our adventures trying to wakeup a fish in a bird egg with weird self playing instruments so we don't have to dream anymore. Trust me, it'll make sense soon. And before we Awaken, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks if someone will be hosting a show like this about modern games in 20 years? Would I ever consider waiving my PC bias and playing the original Fallout? And should I judge people's game rooms? Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! And this game might be even better than the original was! If you've never played the Portal games, I'm begging ya - pause this show, go play em (they're on everything) and then come back and bask in the Portaly goodness. These are probably the two best puzzle games (not named Tetris) that I've ever played. The writing is hilarious, the puzzles are clever, and the mechanics are as silky smooth as smooth ass silk. These games are practically perfect. Pending RTG Hall of Famer Mark McCue is my guest this week, and just we did at the end of last year, we had a great time talking about the brilliance that is Portal. Or...Portal 2. Whatever. These games rules. And before we eat up with a potato, I use put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks if I have any gaming resolutions for next year? I loved it back when it came out, and replaying it twenty years later, I'm happy to say it holds up in the best way. This is a must-play for superhero junkies. If you've never played it, this was the game that paved the way for the Ultimate Alliance series. You form a team of 4, choosing from over a dozen members of X-Men, and then it becomes a bad-ass dungeon crawler. Every character controls the same but plays different, and when you add in the multiplayer facets, you got yourself a hummmmm dinger. My buddy Tyler is the Nightcrawler to my Gambit, and we had a chat about why this truly is one of the best super hero games ever made. If you've never played it, I hope we convince you to take the leap. Just don't use Emma Frost. She sucks. And before we play with legends, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks if I played any classic PC games as a kid, and I put out a call to action for the hot dogs. Has a video game ever humbled me? (Yes).
