11 Mar 2022Zack Ford Hijacked Hollywood00:54:57

Screenwriter and producer Zack Ford is one cool dude. Not only has he written a zillion scripts (if you want to know how many, you have to listen), but he also ran for mayor of Skaneateles, NY. But what's better than that, you ask? It's the unbelievably ballsy thing he did when his back was against the wall and quitting was not an option.

28 Sep 2022If Trigger Warnings Could Have Trigger Warnings: Cactus Jack's Jay Thornton and Michael Gull01:25:29

Now that we have your attention ... While Sadie is vacationing in Europe, Jeanne decided to shake things up and invited writer/director/producer/filmmaker and uber reckless creative Jay Thornton on the show with actor/comedian Michael Gull—the star of the Thornton Brother's new film, CACTUS JACK.

If you want reckless, look no further. There's a lot of swearing, a lot of honesty about Hollywood and indie filmmaking, how limiting the industry is for creatives who push the envelope, and the origin story of CACTUS JACK—the most daring indie flick you'll ever watch. That's a promise.

01 Dec 2022Dramatist Jeff Kitchen Attacks Storytelling with a Burn Rod00:47:48

"If you're not in over your head, you're not doing your job as a writer." Yep, that about sums up the theme of Sadie and Jeanne's convo with Jeff Kitchen. If you're looking for inspiration to push your story to its limits (and beyond), look no further.

Oh, and a plant's life might be in danger. Or maybe not. We'll see.

UPDATE: Jeff has a new book out, The Hero's Dilemma: Drama at the Heart of Your Story.  Available now! "Decades in the making, The Hero’s Dilemma was written by one of the world’s top-rated writing teachers, Jeff Kitchen. This book is a game changer, showing you how to start any story from scratch, maximizing its dramatic power as you create, develop, and construct it. A Dilemma of magnitude—trapping a protagonist between two equally unacceptable alternatives—is the engine of drama, and yet it’s virtually unheard of in film schools or writing courses."

04 Mar 2023The Sh*t Show Episode: Inside the Mind of Multi-Hyphenate Joe Favalaro01:17:38

We're calling this "The Shit Show" not because Joe Favalaro is a "shit show," but because Jeanne was having a shit-show day of mattress delivery and chaos.

Sadie and Jeanne have an in-depth convo with screenwriter/novelist/musician, Joe Favalaro—better known as Joe Straynge—about music, screenwriting, feedback notes, childhood dreams, being dark and broody ... and starting a cello trio.

Get ready for a fun ride... Sadie and Jeanne speak with Josh Zetumer—showrunner, head writer and executive produce of FX's new series, "Say Nothing," out now on Hulu.

Josh discusses the process of adapting The New York Times best selling novel, Say Nothing: A True Story of Murder and Memory in Northern Ireland by Patrick Radden Keefe, the challenges of writing to a tight budget, and shares amazing advice all writers need to hear.

You're going to want to watch this series. Maybe even a few times.

ABOUT JOSH ZETUMER

Joshua Zetumer serves as the showrunner, executive producer and head writer of FX’s Say Nothing, an adaptation of the New York Times best selling and National Book Critics Circle Award for Non-Fiction winning book "Say Nothing: A True Story of Murder and Memory in Northern Ireland" by Patrick Radden Keefe.

Zetumer has written on a number of global box office hits, including RoboCop from director Jose Padilha, the action thriller Patriots Day about the Boston Marathon bombings in 2013 and the subsequent terrorist manhunt. Directed by Peter Berg and starring Mark Wahlberg, Michelle Monaghan and Kevin Bacon, Patriots Day was based on the book "Boston Strong" by Casey Sherman and Dave Wedge. He also completed script revisions for the 2008 James Bond movie, Quantum of Solace.

Three of Zetumer’s scripts have been included on the Blacklist, two of them in the top ten.

25 Feb 2025Horror Writer Seth Sherwood: Breaking In, Staying In, and Everything In Between00:48:04

Can you believe we haven't talked to a horror writer yet? Well, we fixed that ... meet Seth Sherwood.

Sadie Dean and Jeanne Veillette Bowerman talk with Emmy-nominated horror writer/director Seth Sherwood about the 10 years it took for him to break in, the challenges and joys of writing horror, tips for newbies wanting to break in, and so much more!

Seth Sherwood's Full Bio:

Seth M Sherwood is an Emmy-nominated Los Angeles-based screenwriter, director, designer, and producer.  His feature screenwriting credits include Leatherface for Millennium/Lion’s Gate and Hellfest for Valhalla/CBS Films. He also provided uncredited on-set script work for London Has Fallen.  On the TV side, Seth has staffed on two teen-horror shows with Awesomeness TV: The Unsettling and Light as a Feather for Hulu. He’s also written for the forthcoming Wytches for Amazon. He has developed original pilots with Amblin TV, Valhalla Entertainment, and Universal.

In the 90s Seth was a Pacific NW art-kid who made zines out of Fangoria magazines at Kinkos and was an early adopter of Apple products, (and now they’ve trapped him.) He hopes to some day pay off his student loans. If he died tomorrow he would be survived by several bottles of anti-anxiety meds.

He’s also still looking for somebody to invite him to their D&D group.
