15 Jul 2024 | Diesel demand drops while commercial EV, electric semi markets grow
In this special vacation episode of Quick Charge, we explore the historic dive in global diesel demand, and whether it's being caused inflation and a slowing economy or the rapid rise in EV sales displacing millions of gallons of oil demand. In this episode, we'll focus on the rapid growth of the commercial EV market as one of the leading contributors to the global drop in diesel demand, coming perilously close to asking the question: has peak oil come and gone? Give it a watch, then let us know what you think of the role EVs are playing the diesel demand drop in the comments. Source Links

16 Jul 2024 | More EVs = more mining = more equipment, but not necessarily more miners
In this special, second vacation episode of Quick Charge, we explore the historic dive in global diesel demand, and how the proliferation of EVs large and small is driving growth in the global mining industry – which, in turn, is driving growth in both the electric & autonomous mining equipment markets. In this episode, we’ll focus on how the continued push for more lithium, silicon, and phosphate is driving demand for electric mining equipment – and how, in turn, the need for bigger batteries is driving demand for more mined materials. That, and the biggest, baddest electric vehicles you've ever seen. Give it a watch, then let us know what you think of the role EVs are playing the diesel demand drop in the comments. Source Links

17 Jul 2024 | Diesel is down, restomods are fun (these are probably not related)
On this episode of Quick Charge, we explore the wide range of electric conversions and restomods out there bringing classic style to the ultra modern world of electric vehicles ... even if there aren't that many of them around. Would you rather have a new Taycan, or an all-electric 901? A Demon-powered Hemi Charger, or a Ludicrous Tesla driven '72 Plymouth Satellite? See them all here, then let us know which one you'd like to drive home in the comments! Source Links

18 Jul 2024 | Elon’s MAGA millions, Cybertruck gets a fancy blanket, and a new $30K VW EV
Quick Charge is back to report on this week's biggest EV stories – but I didn't expect to read that Elon Musk was committing $45 million per month to get convicted felon, adulterer, and all-around terrible person Donald Trump re-elected! Meanwhile: Tesla's 4680 batteries don't work, the Cybertruck gets a fancy blanket to make sure bike tires don't damage its "super tough" stainless steel tailgate, VW launches a new, $30,000 SUV in China with 385 miles of range, China is cleaning up its act, and the Formula Sun Grand Prix is underway! 23 Jul 2024 | Elon delays Optimus, Hyundai gets nervous, and a REAL work truck
On today's episode of Quick Charge, the Cybertruck gets homolgated in Canada, Elon delays the Optimus robot for up to a full year, Hyundai's feeling skittish about a possible victory for Donald Trump this November, and a Club Car shows off a real MAN's truck – finally! Now that the Tesla Cybertruck has become the best-selling electric pickup in the US and is on its way to dominating Canada, I think it’s high time that we begin to ask ourselves what makes a truck a truck … because the slab-sided, low-poly, post-apocalyptic wedge thing ain’t it for me. 23 Jul 2024 | Jaw-dropping Cadillac concept, new Hyundai IONIQ, and Zeem CEO stops by
In this exciting, extra-long episode of Quick Charge, Zeem Solutions' CEO Paul Gioupis stops by to explain how a managed "fleet as a service" solution helps take the uncertainty out of electrifying a commercial vehicle fleet while I talk up the new Cadillac Sollei and Hyundai plans some big updates for its IONIQ 6 (yes, already). If you haven't seen the jaw-dropping Cadillac Sollei convertible concept that harkens back to the days of Jane Mansfield and Marilyn Monroe, you're in for a treat. I also get to name-drop my favorite new car from the year 1989, we track some of the changes coming to the 2025 Hyundai IONIQ 6, Jeep plans a new electric Gladiator to fight off the threat from Rivian and Cybertruck, and there's even some great solar news out in Nevada! 25 Jul 2024 | Q2 earnings, Elon bets big on AI, cheap Tesla EVs, and Chevy EV lease deals
On this, extra-dense episode of Quick Charge, we cover Tesla's Q2 earnings call, Elon Musk talks cheap Tesla cars and cheaper 4680 batteries while promising to finally deliver on that new Roadster from 2017. While Tesla pushes back its Robotaxi launch, Google is powering ahead, beting $5 billion on Waymo's expansion in to Texas. Plus, GM's got some lease deals for new Chevy EVs – some bad, some pretty good, actually! You'll have to listen to see which one is which ... or, you know, just click here to see Equinox EV deals near you. Source Links

29 Jul 2024 | FSD 12.5, Cybertruck range extender, Cummins on H, and recycled solar
On today's episode of Quick Charge, Elon claims FSD (Full Self Driving) 12.5 can go a full year without interventions, the Cybetruck's range extender is a bit of a letdown, Cummins builds a massive new dyno, and they're recycling solar panels in Texas. It's a tale of two Teslas as the company takes two steps backwards with HW3's FSD promises and the CT's $16,000 battery upgrade that ruins the trunk/bed while releasing FSD 12.5 to the wider fleet and the Semi factory gets a bit more real. Meanwhile, Cummins is taking alt fuel testing safety seriously with a new, $16 million dyno room. Source Links

In today's massive new episode of Quick Charge, Tesla issues a massive 1.8 million EV recall to keep their hoods from flying open, Liebherr puts out a massive, 264-ton electric haul truck, and a massive 2.2 MW wind farm gets one step closer to reality. We've also got a record-setting, 8 second 1/4 mile pass, a 1300 hp Chinese supercar, and a new, virtual power plant that's powered by Ford and Sunrun. Enjoy! Source Links

31 Jul 2024 | Rivian round-up, Elon flip-flops on patents, and Amazon bets big on EVs
On today's thrilling episode of Quick Charge, we're catching up with the latest news about Rivian, its high marks for quality, lawsuit with Tesla, and (maybe) hot-selling R2. We also cover Amazon's aggressive EV expansion plans and do our level best not to call Trump fans "weird." It's no secret that Rivian is gaining friends and fans across the industry with its more conventionally styled EVs and intuitive software – and that's put them on top of JD Power's APEAL test scores (kinda). It's also made them a target for lawsuits from Tesla CEO Elon Musk, who once famously and unironically said that, "patents are for the weak." Maybe they are, Elon. Maybe they are. Source Links

05 Aug 2024 | Cybertruck frame failure, women have worries, and China makes progress
On today's exciting episode of Quick Charge, we talk about Whistlin' Diesel snapping a Cybertruck's gigacast frame, whether or not women worry too much about EV charging, and the progress being made by Tesla rivals in China. The questions being raised by the video shared in Fred Lambert's article certainly raise questions about the off-road capabilities of the Tesla Cybertruck, but one capability all Tesla products sorely lack is the ability to drive away from a charging session while still plugged in. Will the Chinese figure out a solution to that particular issue first, or will it be Toyota? We don't know – but you might! Give us a watch or listen then let us know what you think in the comments. 06 Aug 2024 | Elon hurts Tesla sales, self driving Mercedes, and Matt from Chargeway stops by
On today's extra long episode of Quick Charge, Elon Musk is definitely hurting sales at Tesla, Mercedes is taking the self-driving lead, and Chargeway founder Matt Teske stops by to show us how extreme weather could impact your electric road trip. We also take a deeper dive into some of the ways extreme heat and cold impact electric vehicle range on long road trips, a major bankruptcy in the solar space, and convince ourselves that these photos of Elon as a furry aren't real (please, don't try to convince me they're real – this timeline is already irredeemably stupid, and I don't think I'll ever recover). 08 Aug 2024 | Electric Mopar muscle, stinky Tesla cabin filters, and a pricey Chevy pickup
On today's episode of Quick Charge, we talk about legacy performance nameplates turning to battery power, the value of Tesla Autopilot data, and whether or not a $96,000 Chevy Silverado makes any sense at all, to anyone, for any reason. Plus, we check out latest high-performance Volkswagen's ID.3 and ponder its place in the GTi's legacy, and I defend Tesla's stinky cabin filters while explaining what "sailboat fuel" is! Source Links

We also touch on the new Chargepoint universal charging port, some of the "white space" that Kia's EV3 and EV9 will continue to enjoy in the marketplace, and whether or not Windrose's efforts to bring manufacturing the US are about import tariffs, or something else entirely. 12 Aug 2024 | Tesla might be running out of Cybertruck buyers, Fords charge free, and solar GP
On today's episode of Quick Charge, we ask where Tesla's million buyers went as the wait time on Cybertruck drops to zero. Meanwhile, Ford EVs charge free in Texas, Hyundai's 7 passenger Ioniq 9 heads towards production, and we recap the Electrek American Solar Challenge 2024. We also talk through the $16,000, permanent range-extender that Tesla thinks you'll be willing to give up 1/3 of your bed for, and another $1 billion solar project in New Mexico that helps to establish the state as a leader in solar cell production. Volkswagen, Polestar, and Kia sure hope so – and they're bringing some real competition to Elon Musk and his aging product line to market like, Right. F***ing. Now. Plus, a massive, dual-rotor offshore wind turbine and the most adorable little robot delivery driver to ever mess up your take out order. All this and a bit of Kia history too – enjoy! Source Links

02 Oct 2024 | NYC launches North American Electric Construction Coalition [Quick Charge]
On today's electrifying episode of Quick Charge, we've got Sylvie Binder from the New York City Mayor's Office here to tell us about the newly launched North American Electric Construction Coalition (NAECC) is committed to decarbonizing the construction industry, and NYC is already making serious headway. Timed perfectly to hit the news cycle for Climate Week and just ahead of Drive Electric Week, the New York City Mayor's Office of Climate & Environmental Justice announced the formation of the NAECC in partnership with other C40 Cities like Austin, Texas, Boulder County, Colorado, and San Diego, California (among others). Together with industry partners and trade allies, the NAECC plans to connect business and public sector stakeholders who are committed to developing the electric construction and heavy equipment markets in North America. "This market is currently in its infancy and ripe for innovation. Making the switch to this type of equipment helps to reduce noise and air pollution, greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, and achieve carbon neutrality," reads the press copy. "Cities and manufacturers often come together to solve our toughest sustainability challenges, and coalition members are committed to driving change when it comes to electric construction equipment." NYC is stepping up![]() How we construct our buildings and infrastructure greatly impacts the sustainability and resiliency of NYC. Construction as an industry is responsible for nearly 25% of all global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions — and that number will only continue to climb as the on-road segment continues to electrify. In an effort to push back on that, the city of New York has ramped up its commitments to Embodied Carbon and Clean Construction, and is taking on a leadership role in electrifying construction sites by identifying those efforts as, "integral to our environmental justice and decarbonization agenda." A number of industry partners have already signed on, including AIA New York and the Building Trades Employers Association. Together NAECC coalition partners spend over $13 billion (with a "b") on construction in North America. By joining forces, they hope to cut noise and air pollution, improve the quality of life of people who live and work around heavy equipment, and demonstrate the power of cities and local governments to drive market growth. 07 Oct 2024 | First product from new Fortescue Detroit factory: marine batteries [Quick Charge]
Earlier today, global mining giant Fortescue announced plans to begin operations at its new Detroit factory with the production of HV marine batteries that will be used initially by EVOA to power a range of luxury marine vessels, wake boats, and tenders — and they've come to Quick Charge to tell us all about it! The Fortescue Zero division of the mining giant is opening its first North American Advanced Manufacturing Center in Detroit, next year — and we now know that its first product will be an advanced, high voltage marine battery built around the company's Scalable Battery Module (SBM) technology. "The Marine Battery Packs we have designed and will manufacture for EVOA in Detroit is Fortescue describes the Marine Battery Pack being produced for EVOA as lightweight, high-performance products delivering 30kWh to 34kWh per pack, and as engineered to support EVOA's most powerful, 1,000+ hp powertrains. The company insists that fast-charging capabilities will be baked into the new batteries, with practical charge times projected at under 30 minutes to minimize That charge time is conservative![]() Claiming a 30 min. DCFC top-off time would have raised eyebrows just a few weeks ago — but last week's announcement that Fortescue was driving the technology behind massive, all electric heavy equipment solutions (like the Liebherr T264E rigid haul truck, above) with an all-new, mind-bendingly quick 6 MW DC fast charger that could charge this massive haul truck's 1,900 kWh battery in less than thirty minutes has changed all that. The game has simply changed, and there are already waterfront megawatt charging projects in play to support the notion that electric boats simply won't get stuck charging for extended periods of time. Fortescue's Marine Battery Pack solution can be configured as a multi-pack Power System, giving the flexibility to support small and larger vessels. We were lucky enough to have Fortescue's Chief Commercial Officer Andrew Carlisle join us on today's episode of Quick Charge to discuss Fortescue Zero, the company's major moves towards carbon neutrality, and more. 18 Oct 2024 | EV or gas – which is right for you? A new tool from Ford Pro has answers!
On today's educational episode of Quick Charge, Ford Pro cross vehicle brand manager Nate McDonald is here to tell us about a new fleet management tool that can help give fleets a better answer to that modern question: When is the right time to electrify? If you have a commercial fleet and are interested in transitioning some or all your vehicles to EVs, how and when is the right time to do it? That's the question that Ford wants to help its commercial customers answer with a new tool from Ford Pro called E-Switch Assist. E-Switch Assist is a complimentary software offering that takes telematic data from existing gas- and diesel-powered Ford F-150 and Transit models and trackes each vehicle's individual energy use to determine if it's a good candidate for replacement with an EV. The results? After evaluating over 38,000 commercial vehicles in pilot programs, the E-Switch Assist tool revealed that nearly 53% of all commercial ICE-powered Ford F-150 and Transit vehicles are either "Highly Likely Eligible" or "Likely/Potentially Eligible" to switch to electric power without disrupting the business based on their current usage. "Smart tools informed by data like E-Switch Assist are opening up many new conversations with our commercial customers large and small about EV readiness; we're already using E-Switch Assist regularly in consultations to help organizations determine if electric trucks and vans are right for them," said Nate McDonald, EV strategy and cross vehicle brand manager at Ford Pro. "The importance of these tools and technologies goes beyond selling a customer a new vehicle—it changes mindsets about whether electric vehicles will work for their business while potentially saving them time and money." Nate McDonald is joining us on today's show to help walk us through it. Enjoy! Source Links

30 Oct 2024 | Biden-Harris administration awards $3 billion in Clean Ports grants
On today's awarding episode of Quick Charge, President Joe Biden takes a trip to Baltimore to announce $147 million in EPA awards to the city's Ports, which will support electrification efforts, clean up carbon emissions, and support some 2,000 union jobs at the Port — but that's just a small part of the larger, $3 billion announcement. That $3 billion investment from President Biden's Inflation Reduction Act will be put to use nationally in the form of 55 award selectees across 27 states and territories (read: Puerto Rico), with the aim of modernizing and improving existing port infrastructure. At the same time, the funds will help port operators and drayage fleets electrify while combating the climate crisis. The White House says the Clean Ports program will support an estimated 40,000 jobs across the nation's economy, including new 6,500 manufacturing jobs. The awards are expected to increase demand for American-made electric cargo handling equipment at least six-fold over the life of the program. That equipment could range from all-electric top handlers like these at the Port of Los Angeles, or the massive, 400-ton electric crane recently commissioned at the Port of San Diego — as well as providing for electric drayage trucks and the charging depots associated with them.
In addition to Port of Baltimore, other award winners are announcing theirs — including $322 million to Port of Oakland, $344 million to New Jersey, and over $127 million to Delaware. The entire awards list can be seen here. Today's Clean Ports announcement helps to advances the Biden-Harris Administration's Justice40 Initiative, and aligns with the Biden-Harris Administration's stated goal of creating a zero-emission freight sector. Update: the podcastIn order to help walk me through drayage, shore power, and how we can overcome some of the hurdles surrounding cleaning up the ports, my friend Paul Gioupis from Zeem Solutions was kind enough to come on the show and talk it out. 20 Jan 2025 | Southern Company announces 6 month, grid-enhancing EV fleet pilot
On today's episode of Quick Charge, Southern Company's Tom Canada talks us through the utility's new, six-month pilot program that aims to overcome some of the perceived barriers to EV adoption by demonstrating the transformative potential of EV adoption in commercial fleets. Developed in partnership with Ford Pro, the Southern Company pilot will see more than 200 F-150 Lightning trucks incorporated into the utility's existing vehicle fleet, will leverage pricing signals and demand response to evaluate the impact of cost-effective charging within a fleet environment while demonstrating the efficiency of using established charging depots. In addition to exploring the cost-savings of EV vs. ICE, the pilot will also explore the use of software to automate charging schedules, which would enabling customers to charge at times that minimize both their electricity costs and reduce any potential strain on the electric grid. Tom Canada, a Southern Company sr. account manager who's been leading the charge on fleet electrification, joins us on today's episode to tell us more. Source Links

18 Mar 2025 | Cartoonish Tesla crashes, Toyota battery deals, and new Chinese hotness | 00:10:05
ACME stock soars on today's cartoonishly silly episode of Quick Charge, we watch Tesla Autopilot crash into a wall with a painting on it, make the Elon stans look silly when they point out shady behavior from their fearless leader, and toss out the notion that some franchise dealers might help the troubled EV brand make more sales in red states. We also cover Toyota as it moves to position itself for global battery dominance by suppling batteries to more than 400,000 electrified Honda vehicles per year, plus an upgraded Xpeng G6 electric SUV that makes everything on this side of the Pacific look positively plebeian. All this and more, enjoy! Source Links

20 Mar 2025 | Elon’s missing billions, Tesla terrorism, bots rig surveys, and a Nissan battery deal
Is Elon Musk using the missing $1.4B to fund anti-Tesla protests as part of a massive false flag operation that will give him control of both the police and the courts? There's absolutely ZERO evidence to support that idea (plus: I just made it up), but it's 2025 and that means anything goes on today's bats**t episode of Quick Charge! If there's one thing narcissists love it's playing victim, and the guy who asked everyone at Trump's inauguration if they's seen Kyle and spent the last decade stacking billions by failing to deliver on a mission to mars, an all-electric roadster, an underground super-speedway, and a self-driving car seems to think it's someone else's fault that people don't like him. We talk through the state of that debacle along with news from two credible car companies, and I predict Volvo will have the first mainstream L3 car in America – enjoy! Source Links

02 Apr 2025 | Quick Charge | the terrifying Trump tariffs are finally upon us!
On today's tariff-tastic episode of Quick Charge, we've got tariffs! Big ones, small ones, crazy ones, and fake ones – but whether or not you agree with the Trump tariffs coming into effect tomorrow, one thing is absolutely certain: they are going to change the price you pay for your next car ... and that price won't be going down! Everyone's got questions about what these tariffs are going to mean for their next car buying experience, but this is a bigger question, since nearly every industry in the US uses cars and trucks to move their people and products – and when their costs go up, so do yours. On today's hyped up hydrogen episode of Quick Charge, we look at some of the fuel's recent failures and billion dollar bungles as the fuel cell crowd continues to lose the credibility race against a rapidly evolving battery electric market. We're taking a look at some of the recent hydrogen failures of 2025 – including nine-figure product cancellations in the US and Korea, a series of simultaneous bus failures in Poland, and European executives, experts, and economists calling for EU governments to ditch hydrogen and focus on the deployment of a more widespread electric trucking infrastructure.
