24 Nov 2020Episode 19: Kinsey01:05:36

Moving  away  from social psychology, we are hosting an 8 week  flex/intercession  mini-season on cinema representations of psychology.  This episode, we are covering Kinsey, a surprisingly less salacious tale than A Dangerous Method, but one filled with some dubious ethics, meaningful moments and a group of researchers interested in understanding sex.

Out ratings: As a movie 9/10. As a psychology film 9/10. Not for most classes, but good on content, feelings, and history.

18 May 2023Episode 128: Don’t Eat That: Raw, Carnivore, and Only Air Diets…00:58:09

Episode 128 of our book read/podcast covering major topics in various fields of psychology moves us into a continuation of the Year of Clickbait with PSEUDOSCIENCE! In this episode Daniel and Thomas shift from things you shouldn’t drink to things you shouldn't eat. The raw meat diet, the carnivore diet, and breatharians all fall into our crosshairs as pseudoscience. Are they as bad as the last things we’ve discussed? Are they as weird as urine therapy? Probably not as weird, but just as potentially harmful as the rest. So, just like with bleach, there are some things we shouldn’t be consuming.

02 Feb 2023Episode 115: Pseudo-Stuff: Slow Science and Quick B.S.01:10:33

Episode 115 of our book read/podcast covering major topics in various fields of psychology moves us into a continuation of the Year of Clickbait with PSEUDOSCIENCE! This Spring we are going to be talking about pseudoscience. Who believes it? Why do they believe it? Is there a kernel of truth to some of the pseudoscientific beliefs people have? And more…

In this episode Daniel and Thomas introduce pseudoscience and get back into their groove after a bumpy Fall semester. We discuss what exactly pseudoscience is, set up the ground rules for this semester, and compare what pseudoscientists do to what scientists do. We also scrap the bias of the week to talk about some of the questions people have for psychologists online and the answers “totally real psychologists” offer them.

Warning: This episode contains some graphic information and all season we will be talking about some less than savory topics.
