09 Feb 2022The Gutsy Ask Challenge with Becky Mollenkamp00:31:35

Explicit content & trigger warning: cursing & discussion around suicide.
As women, we are often afraid to ask for help; I even avoid asking my husband to help me with things around the house, and I bet you are the same way. Today’s guest, Becky Mollenkamp, is a wonderful feminist business coach, who helps women overcome limited beliefs. I have known Becky for years now and in this episode she even shares something I wrote in her Gutsy challenge from four years ago! Episode 90 of the Product Powerhouse Podcast is about being gutsy, and asking for help!

In this episode of the Product Powerhouse Podcast, Becky is sharing the importance of asking for help and actionable steps you can take right now to be gutsy.

Some of the talking points Becky and I go over in this episode include:

  • What it means to Becky to be “gutsy” and why she’s so passionate about helping others through her program.
  • The ingrained societal pressures we as women face in society and that we pass unknowingly to our children, about appearances and worth based on the work we put in, and why this is so detrimental to the mental health of Becky’s clients.
  • The power in the ability to ask for what you need and want, and how Becky’s challenge will help you not only ask, but know how to ask for those things.

If you’ve been struggling to ask for help, or don’t know what to ask for or how, then the Gutsy Ask challenge may be for you! Give this episode a listen to find out! So be sure to tune in to all the episodes to receive tons of practical tips on growing your product shop and to hear even more about the points outlined above.

23 Feb 2022Building Wealth on Amazon with Yassin Hall00:36:55

Yassin Hall didn’t have a choice; she wasn’t going to thrive in a corporate America job due to her children having special abilities and struggling to make bills each month. She invested her last $197 dollars into an Amazon store and within 5 years became a millionaire and helped her daughter do the same. That’s why episode 92 of the Product Powerhouse Podcast is about building wealth, both financially and in priceless moments, through selling on Amazon!

In this episode of the Product Powerhouse Podcast, Yassin Hall is sharing the importance of building wealth from the ground up and actionable steps you can take right now to start your own store on Amazon or another third party seller platform.

Some of the talking points Yassin and I go over in this episode include:

  • How Yassin became a self-made millionaire, from homelessness and scared of her lights being cut off, to an accountant calling her to tell her to check her bank account statement.
  • How Yassin’s life dictated that a corporate 9-5 life was not for her, and how she enlisted her children’s help to grow her business in the beginning.
  • The process of starting an amazon, walmart, or ebay account, and why it is so important to do it right the first time.
  • The power of entrepreneurship for women, especially those struggling to make ends meet or missing time with children in order to work.

There is power in investing in your own dreams and becoming an entrepreneur. Though not a get rich quick scheme, the power of being able to sell on Amazon, Ebay, and even Walmart as a third party seller can mean the difference in a million dollars. So be sure to tune in to all the episodes to receive tons of practical tips on growing your product shop and to hear even more about the points outlined above.

09 Mar 20225 Products You Can Sell Online With Little to No Inventory00:22:22

If you are a long time listener of the podcast, this episode may not be for you, however, you may know someone who is looking to start their own business who this episode would be perfect for! You may also be looking for something different or another revenue stream. That’s why episode 94 of the Product Powerhouse Podcast is about 5 product-based business ideas with little upfront cost!

In this episode of the Product Powerhouse Podcast, I’m sharing the importance of foundational work behind the start of a business, like niche and legalizing your business, and actionable steps you can take right now to start selling an online product today.

Some of the talking points I go over in this episode include:

  • Limitations and boundaries that both service based and product based businesses have, like inventory, time spent, etc. that you should keep in mind when you start your own business.
  • Why I don’t believe in the debate between Etsy and Shopify - but rather believe you should have products in both.
  • Why Print on demand products would be my product-based business of choice if I were to have my own product-based business.
  • A few product-based business ideas that don’t involve an inventory at all, as well as platforms and software to help you if you don’t have a natural design eye.

13 Apr 2022Celebrating Small Wins00:15:39

When was the last time you celebrated small wins in your business or life? Do you know the huge importance it plays on you mentally? I recently learned the powerful lesson of celebrating small wins after realizing that goal achieving was less fun when I didn’t celebrate them! I am an enneagram 3, which means I love achieving goals and setting goals to hit them. But it recently became clear to me that I don’t take the time to celebrate them - I just look for what’s next. This week, episode 99 of the Product Powerhouse Podcast is about celebrating the small wins!

In this episode of the Product Powerhouse Podcast, I’m sharing the importance of learning to celebrate the small wins and actionable steps you can take right now to recognize those wins and give them the time and appreciation they deserve.

Some of the talking points I go over in this episode include:

  • Why it’s easier to celebrate the big wins because they are easier to identify, but also why the small wins only bring discontent to figure out the next thing.
  • How I came to this sudden realization while hospitalized through identifying that I wasn’t looking back on all the big milestones, but rather the day to day actions I did, that I felt truly appreciative of my work and small wins for the first time.
  • How this can play out not just in business, but all aspects of your life, and how that shift opened up doors and relationships in new ways.
  • The progress principle; what it is, and why you should measure and celebrate both lead and lag goals.

If you’re not sure how to celebrate those smaller wins, then for sure hang out until the end of the episode where I give you lots of ways you can celebrate your lead goals. Be sure to tune in to all the episodes to receive tons of practical tips on growing your product shop and to hear even more about the points outlined above.

Thank you for listening! If you enjoyed this episode, take a screenshot of the episode to post in your stories and tag me!  And don’t forget to follow, rate and review the podcast and tell me your key takeaways!

27 Apr 20225 Things to Have in Place in Case of an Emergency00:24:24

I’ve been thinking about the importance of having a plan when there’s an emergency in your business, and how many of us small business owners don’t plan for these things and should. The importance of having a plan and being able to execute the plan should anything scary or emergent come up is huge, and can make or break a business in a crisis. This week, episode 101 of the Product Powerhouse Podcast is about preparing for an emergency with your team!

In this episode of the Product Powerhouse Podcast, I’m sharing the importance of having a plan even if everything seems totally fine right now and actionable steps you can take right now to set up your team for survival and thrivability.

Some of the talking points I go over in this episode include:

  • My own journey with an emergency in January and how my plan helped my team and my podcast run as smoothly as they could while I was in the hospital and on bedrest.
  • The importance of creating and writing down processes and systems for everything you do so if it needed to be recreated by someone else it could be done.
  • Why you need a master document with all your SOPs, passwords and processes, and why not having this can make your business run more smoothly in your absence.
  • The communication protocols between you and your team; the importance and value in having this system in place and understanding when, why, and how to contact you in an emergency.

I hope you never have to use these plans and master documents because of an emergency, but I hope you get to use these things to help take an extra long vacation someday soon!

04 May 2022Etsy Growth for Everyone with Lauren Keplinger00:36:14

I get asked all the time by clients whether or not they should have a Shopify store or an Etsy shop, and I have always said both. Here to corroborate my reasoning is Lauren Keplinger, star Etsy shop owner and Etsy shop coach, who went from making monogrammed baby blankets to get through her husband’s deployments to making six figures from her shop! This week, episode 102 of the Product Powerhouse Podcast is about niching down to grow larger on Etsy!

In this episode of the Product Powerhouse Podcast, Lauren Keplinger is sharing the importance of niching down your ideal client and actionable steps you can take right now to be successful on Etsy.

  • Should you have an Etsy shop or a Shopify shop, or should you have both? We discuss this at length!
  • Why you cannot sell to just anyone on Etsy, and how to start to niche down no matter what market or industry you populate.
  • The power in meeting customers where they are at, and how best to do that for your own business.

If you sell candles, your ideal client is not anyone with a nose. In this episode, you’ll learn exactly why that is! Be sure to tune in to all the episodes to receive tons of practical tips on growing your product shop and to hear even more about the points outlined above.

18 May 2022Taking Time Away From Your Business with Erin Flynn00:37:29

Do you ever feel like you’re permanently glued to your work computer? Erin Flynn did. In fact, Erin was checking her sales on her wedding day, and this, along with other big life events that made her feel addicted to her business, were what prompted her to drop her hours and live her life. This week, episode 104 of the Product Powerhouse Podcast is about how to spend less time glued to your computer, and more time living your life!

In this episode of the Product Powerhouse Podcast, Erin Flynn is sharing the importance of removing the pieces of your business that you do not enjoy to work less and actionable steps you can take right now to feel better about your limited time with your business.

Some of the talking points Erin and I go over in this episode include:

  • The first few things you can do to detach from your computer and step away from your business.
  • How to manage the day-to-day tasks, like customer service, while being an out-of-the-office entrepreneur.
  • How to evaluate the tasks you’ve put pressure on yourself to do, and how to easily remove or reestablish them as needed.
  • Ways product based businesses can continue to make money even if they are hospitalized, on maternity leave, or on vacation.

There is power in being an entrepreneur who is not glued to their work all the time; the power to take a vacation, have that time flexibility or even handle emergencies as they arise in our lives, is far more important than burning out doing everything we think we have to do to be successful. 29 Jun 20223 Ways to Realign Your Marketing Efforts For Better Results00:19:51

I love marketing. It’s really exhausting, but also really rewarding. Perhaps you love marketing as much as I do, or maybe you just love to hate it. However, if we could love marketing all the time, we could trust the process and rest in the knowledge that what we are doing is truly effective. This week, episode 110 of the Product Powerhouse Podcast is about how to align your marketing strategy with your business!

In this episode of the Product Powerhouse Podcast, I’m sharing the importance of social listening and actionable steps you can take right now to know your ideal customer beyond assumptions.

Some of the talking points I go over in this episode include:

  • Why assuming what your customer wants or needs can be detrimental to your marketing and why your ideal customer workbooks may not be accurate.
  • The importance of market research to deeply understand your true ideal customer and knowing if your marketing campaigns now are targeting the right people.
  • Why you need to practice and pay attention to the sweet skill of social listening, and how conversations around you, but not about you necessarily, are vital to your marketing.
  • A great way to identify how and when to collaborate with others, such as influencers, when you find the gap in the market and see their thoughts and words around their issues.

If you do these three things, you’ll solidify your messaging around your marketing and truly speak to your ideal customer. Be sure to tune in to all the episodes to receive tons of practical tips on growing your product shop and to hear even more about the points outlined above.

13 Jul 2022Conversion-Based Design on Your Shop Website00:19:57

I always say that one of my favorite parts about website design is that you have to be creative within the box of web design. You have to make sure your website functions the way a customer expects it to, but with design, you can push the boundaries a little bit and make your website unique and functional. This is one of my favorite topics to talk about! This week, episode 112 of the Product Powerhouse Podcast is about conversion-based design within your website design!

In this episode of the Product Powerhouse Podcast, I’m sharing the importance of speaking the customer’s language on your website and actionable steps you can take right now to convert more website viewers into customers.

Some of the talking points I go over in this episode include:

  • The definition of conversion-centered design and why it’s such a key piece to your website.
  • Function over Design; why we sometimes need to compromise how beautiful our website looks in order to keep it functional for our customers.
  • Why hyperlinks aren’t enough to get people on your site to take action, and why buttons need to be on your website to get people to do what you want them to.
  • How to create flow on your page while simultaneously providing enough information to make the buying decision easy and draw their attention to important information on your website.

Sometimes we have to sacrifice the fun designs for function, but the power comes from paying close attention to these things we discussed in today’s episode to make sure your website does convert. If you don’t pay attention to these design elements, you’ll be hurting your business. Be sure to tune in to all the episodes to receive tons of practical tips on growing your product shop and to hear even more about the points outlined above.

Growing a business often feels like working on a puzzle with the pieces upside down. We can piece together the edges and the corners, but filling in the middle feels like a shot in the dark. By using the seasons of your business as a guide, I’m hoping to help you understand where you are and what things you need to do to get to the next season. Season One - Establishing

In this season, you are going from zero to one. You’re building from resources easily available to you. It usually costs you heavily in time and sometimes money as you get your business up and running.

Season Two - Growing

You are putting down roots in this season. You’ve successfully built something that needs to be tended to so that it can grow sustainably. This is a great time to start automating and creating systems to give you more time.

Season Three - Full Steam Ahead

In this season, you are focusing on running on all cylinders because your product suite and processes are fine-tuned. This is a great time to consider how your business fits into your life.

Season Four - Max Capacity (Coasting)

29 Jul 2020Common SEO Myths + Mistakes Shop Owners Make00:29:59

I have talked about SEO on this podcast already a bunch of times. And I know this will not be the last, but today. I really want to talk about myths and mistakes. People are making their SEO on their shop websites. There's just so much we can talk about when it comes to SEO. And I'm really excited to go into some of these things that maybe you're not quite understanding. And so we'll debunk some myths. We'll talk about the mistakes and what you should do instead.

My whole goal in talking about SEO is to simplify it for you. I absolutely understand that SEO is this overwhelming idea that a lot of people don't understand. They think it's really technical. And I want to simplify that for you. This is why I have a course called Simplified SEO for Shop Owners, because yes, there are a lot of things about SEO. There are a lot of technical pieces in some different types of SEO, but you don't need to focus on that aspect of your business strategy. At this point in time. There's a lot you can do on your website with your product listings, with the content you have. You don't have to be that like super tech wiz to get results from SEO.

So we're going to talk about the myths and the mistakes people are making. I'll tell you what you should do instead.

We’ve also talked about these topics on the blog before and you check those out too.
