20 Aug 2023My Peri Menopause Story with Michele Owen00:25:18

Welcome to this week's episode where we continue our "grassroots" conversations with "everyday" women, who are opening up and sharing their own Peri Menopause story to help better educate other women and bring awareness to this pivotal time of life.

This week we welcome Michele Owen to our podcast. Michele is a mum to 3 adult children, a passionate change manager and a woman who has learnt about her life and self so much across her lifetime and now continues to grow and learn through this next phase of her life, being Peri Menopause.

Michele takes us on a reflective journey through her Peri Menopause experience as she shares the highs and lows of her symptoms, her desire to "fix" what she has been experiencing to then eventually accepting this phase of life. Michele openly talks about the ambiguity of Peri Menopause and her desire to understand what this phase means for her.

Michele shares a wonderful quote with us towards the end of our conversation "Experience is what you get when you don't get what you want". We loved how this quote sums up beautifully Michele's personal story as well as how she comes into her power through learning. We also see how much this quote can bring every woman experiencing Menopause, a learning and growth perspective. There's no doubt, Menopause brings with it a set of challenges for all women in some way, but as you strive to manage and support yourself, you may not quite get what you want (in an outcome or improvement) but you do get an experience, a learning and an opportunity to use that learning for the rest of your life.

We know you will love this chat with Michele. If you do we would love to hear from you, will you leave us a review? Or please feel free to share our podcast with others in your life. We can all be a collective force for change and as we often say, no woman should be left behind.

Thanks for listening as always!

She explores why alcohol is often used as a coping mechanism during challenging transitions, emphasizing the need to address this trend. 09 Jul 2023Exploring your emotions through meditation00:23:35

In this week's episode, Natalie takes you on a mindful exploration of your emotions and thoughts through a guided meditation practice. The transition of Menopause, as you know, brings with it so many mixed emotions and thoughts that Lisa and Nat wanted to offer you the opportunity to connect with what you are feeling.

In our busy existence we rarely get the opportunity to explore our thoughts and feelings, (unless you have an active meditation practice) so this is an opportunity to explore emotions, where you feel them in your body, what may trigger them and also what responses or reactions these emotions generate for you.

You may be completely new to meditation and we invite you to be curious and give this practice a go. Come with an open heart and mind and be open to what might come up for you knowing that it is a very powerful way to support you and your health, every day but also at a time of great change.

If you enjoyed this meditation you can listen to other meditations by Natalie on Insight Timer.

If you have any questions or comments about this episode or meditation, feel free to send them our way. And of course, if you have a moment we would love you to leave a review.

Thanks for listening always!

We know that it is a personal journey and one that is rarely spoken about, but through talking about what you are experiencing you are opening up the conversation for support, education and awareness.

08 Jan 2023Creating thriving health Part 100:11:05

Happy New Year listeners! We hope the holiday season and the start of the year has been a beautiful time and will continue to be into 2023.

As you would know, the beginning of a new year always brings focus around new years resolutions. We despise the thought process around new years resolutions and believe more deeply in tuning into yourself and what you need from a whole health perspective and creating healthy habits around that.

Over the next few weeks we are going to take you through a mini series which will focus on helping you connect to your whole health and what it is may need and want when it comes to thriving in your health, life, career, self.

In this first episode we talk through our 5 pillar framework which is a venn diagram of four circles each representing your physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health which surrounds the work SELF.

We talk through why this framework serves as a great tool to support your health and life desires as well as talking specifically about the self - You - and how knowing where you are and what you need is an important first step.

If you would like to know more about this framework, you can read more over at our blogs.

We hope you enjoy this episode and the others to follow as we take you on a journey to creating thriving health.

24 Sep 2023Two years of Peri Menopause Power00:16:13

In this very special episode we take a moment to celebrate two years of our podcast Peri Menopause Power. It has been an incredible experience hosting this podcast and we are absolutely so grateful to you all for sharing your time with us each week to listen.

We have loved the many conversations we have had with our wonderful guests and of course with each other. It has simply been our passion and plight to bring awareness to Menopause and more broadly to women's bodies, cycles and phases which has kept us showing up week in, week out.

In this episode you will hear us talk about awareness and acceptance and how bringing that awareness and acceptance for the individual, communities and businesses is so imperative. We talk about the ingrained fear and stigma associated and we hope through the work we are doing and the many conversations we've had that we've given you a bit more awareness and permission to accept where you are.

For our Melbourne listeners, be sure to check out our event Menopause Redefined which we are hosting October 20th at Justco Co Working in Melbourne CBD. We have the very inspiring Penny Locaso whom we spoke with on our podcast just a few weeks ago, you can listen here and Grace Zielinski who very openly shared her own Perimenopause story. You can catch Grace's episode here

Check all of the event details here

And as we celebrate two years of our podcast, we thank you so much from the bottom of our heart for listening and following along with our experience, skills and personal stories. It means the world to us!

If you have a moment to spare we'd love it if you could leave us a review and let us know what you think. And don't forget to subscribe, we've got another year of episodes to bring you and we do not want you to miss one!

03 Mar 2025That time we convinced our podcast producer to wear the MenoVest…00:31:30

Welcome to Peri Menopause Power, where we dive deep into the transformative journey of perimenopause and midlife.

In this episode, our podcast producer, Rob Flude, got to wear and experience the MenoVest. It’s taken some months, but Rob also agreed to come on the show and record a live episode and discuss menopause, something that wasn’t on his 2025 bingo card, but he embraced it nonetheless.

We not only gave Rob the MenoVest experience, but we gave him an insight into one of the most impactful and common symptoms - hot flushes - and opened up his awareness as to the cognitive, emotional and mental impact of menopause.

We also gave Rob the space to ask us some questions without fear of judgement, and we are sure you will enjoy this discussion as much as we enjoyed recording it.

Key Discussion Points

  • A man’s understanding of menopause through the MenoVest experience
  • The physical and emotional impact of menopause
  • How hot flushes can be debilitating and disruptive to an average person’s day, and
  • The importance of education and empathy in building a life of co-existence between men and women.

29 Jan 2023Creating Thriving Health Part 400:09:29

Welcome to Part 4 of our Creating Thriving Health Mini Series. This is the last episode in this series but by no means least important.

In today's episode we talk through Emotional Health and in particular the importance of our relationships and connections that support us, serve us and contribute to our whole health and wellbeing.

Surrounding ourselves with positive friendships, supportive people and others who we can talk too and can even understand the experiences we are having goes a long way to contributing to our thriving health. We also know that having positive friendships can be challenging or making friends particularly as we get older can be tricky but it is possible.

This is part of our reason for starting Women Thriving Together. We speak to countless women who feel alone, isolated and really feel like they have no one that understands their experience or what they are going through. WTT is about ensuring no woman is left behind and that the "woman" behind their career, business, personal goals, life and relationships is being supported. At the end of the day if you are not thriving, your career, life, business, goals etc will not be thriving either.

We would love you to join us at WTT and be inspired, connected, informed and truly supported. You can learn more or join here

And always if you are loving our episodes and podcast we would love you to leave a review, subscribe and/or share our podcast with those around you. As a side note, if you have enjoyed this four part series we'd love you to leave a review or send us some feedback at info@ownyourhealthco.com.au

26 Mar 2023My Peri Menopause Story with Grace Zielinski00:39:36

"We give away our power by not knowing"

In this episode we have a beautiful raw and honest conversation with Grace Zielinski - an award-winning IT Executive. She is the Founder of ‘Menopause with Grace’ an online site and community designed to empower women to take an active role in their mid-life hormonal change.

During our conversation Grace shares with us how at 45 she felt like "something wasn't quite right". She had a challenging and rewarding career as a corporate high-achiever. Not to mention family life, with kids aged five and seven, keeping her busy. Grace had lost her confidence at work. She felt indecisive, overwhelmed and tired. When she decided to take an unplanned career break, she still didn’t know she was experiencing menopause. She just knew she couldn’t work through her symptoms anymore. She left her job to focus on her health.

We're sure that many of you will resonate with Grace's story and in your own way. You can connect with Grace at Menopause with Grace, Linked In or Instagram

Will you help our podcast reach as many people as possible? We would love it if you could leave us a review and subscribe to our podcast. Your reviews help us immensely in our episodes being seen and listened too. Also, remember to share it around with women around you. We want to ensure that no woman is left behind.

As always thank you for listening.

18 Feb 2024Leaving a legacy in your workplace with Emma Jones00:31:46

In this week's episode we welcome Emma Jones to our podcast.

Emma founded social impact business Project F in 2019 to improve gender-balance in technology teams and leadership. Her career in the people and diversity spans over 28 years across global markets. Originally from London, Emma’s career has seen her live and work in the UK, US and the last decade, Australia. Driven by purpose Emma is an unapologetic, albeit accidental, feminist and she is on a mission to change the culture of tech with her company Project F's gender-balance accreditation program. Emma is a strategist, mentor, gender equality advocate and busy mother of four.

This was an incredibly insightful conversation with Emma as we delved into her passion and work around gender diversity.

Emma talks about the opportunity employees and employers have in creating and owning their legacy in creating impactful change within workplaces. She sheds light on need for a growth mindset around diversity and inclusion and that there shouldn't be an expectation for HR professionals to know it all but rather to be curious and lean into experts.

We loved the mindset around owning your legacy and we invite you to consider how you can create your own legacy in bringing Menopause awareness to the workplace. And if you need help with this or would love chat, send us an email hello@ownyourhealthco.com.au or check out our work at www.ownyourhealthco.com.au

Be sure to connect with and follow Emma and Project F over on LinkedIn.

21 Oct 2024Hair Health for women’s health with Andrea Clark00:34:11

Welcome to Peri Menopause Power, where we dive deep into the transformative journey of perimenopause and midlife.

In this episode, we’re speaking with Andrea Clark, a highly experienced trichologist, stylist, and hair consultant with over 30 years in the hair industry.

Splitting her time between Melbourne and Hong Kong, Andrea offers her expertise to salons in both cities and provides individual consultations to clients globally via Zoom. Her passion lies in helping clients overcome challenges like hair thinning, hair loss, and scalp conditions, as well as restoring hair’s overall health and condition.

Andrea began her career as a stylist in Melbourne, before moving to Hong Kong in 2007 to join the prestigious Mandarin Salon at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel. She advanced to senior stylist, then salon manager and artistic director, specialising in colour and cutting.

Motivated by the common scalp and hair issues faced by her high-stress, time-poor clientele - and inspired by a meeting with the renowned trichologist Philip Kingsley - Andrea pursued certification in trichology with the International Association of Trichologists. This training has enabled her to combine science-based solutions with her stylistic expertise to provide comprehensive care for hair and scalp health.

21 Nov 2021Why Peri Menopause and Power can be used in the same sentence00:15:53

Welcome to Episode 7 of Peri Menopause Power.

In today's episode, we start the conversation about our belief that you can own your power during Peri Menopause. In fact, we believe and know that you can define what Peri Menopause looks, feels and is for you.

Given women are living 30 - 40 years beyond Menopause, this life stage is a critical time to support your ongoing health, wellbeing and life potential.

We hope you enjoy this episode and that it inspires you to think about how can come into yourself and embrace your power.

During this episode we quote the following passage from About Bloody Time an incredible book that we think all women should read. "In such a patriarchal world, women's bodies are the locus of huge anxiety and contestation, because they are simultaneously desired, feared, hated, scrutinised, coveted and revered for their many powers - there is envy and resentment of a body that can create and sustain life, be a source of longing and ecstasy, and has an internal cycle connected to the seasons, the cosmos and everything that grows".

13 Feb 2022How can coaching help women in Peri Menopause00:15:17

In this episode, Natalie and Lisa have a great conversation about how health coaching can support women going through Peri Menopause. It is no secret that this phase of life can have tremendous impacts on your lifestyle, your emotions, your health, your work and overall life. Many women end up on a quest searching for answers trying to better understand what is happening in their bodies, unfortunately many are left confused and unsure with very little clarity.

This is where the support of a coach can have incredible results in understanding your symptoms, the reasons behind them and of course how to really support yourself on a whole health level.

If you would love to know more about our coaching services and how we can really support your personal knowledge, awareness and promotion of your goals, feel free to learn more here or book in a complimentary chat with us.

02 Jul 2023Menopause Symptom Series: Channeling your stress00:11:35

In this week's episode, we talk stress. Sometimes just saying the word "stress" can create a stress response in our bodies. But for this conversation we talk about the opportunity we have to channel and use our stress. And in particular ensuring that our health does not become a victim of stress around us.

Although stress isn't a symptom, it is a contributor to symptoms and also an inhibitor to creating the healthy changes and lifestyle you need to support yourself during this phase of life.

In this episode we discuss what stress is, why it isn't always possible to stop stress around, how we can choose how we respond to stress and most importantly the role of surrendering and accepting plays in support our stress responses and perception of this phase of life.

We hope you enjoy listening! And as we said in the opening, thank you from the bottom of our heart for listening and sharing your time with us. We hope that you building your Menopause literacy, learning and growing and most of all coming into your Peri Menopause Power.

03 Dec 2023100 Episodes of Peri Menopause Power00:25:30

Welcome to our 100th episode of Peri Menopause Power!

We have celebrated a few milestones over the lifetime of the podcast, but this is a very special milestone. We are very proud of what we have achieved and appreciative of you our listeners, who share your time with us and for that we say thank you!

For this episode we wanted to highlight two key messages:

  1. “I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across the water to create many ripples.” - Mother Theresa. We all have a part to play when it comes to changing the narrative, shifting stigma and squashing taboos! And this is why we created this podcast to close the gap in the lack of education and to create ripples of awareness with the view that as collective we can make great change together.
  2. "The power of community to create health is far greater than any physician, clinic or hospital." - Mark Hyman. We want to bring home the power and love we can get from connecting with others and sharing in our experiences. There is so much to gain from being around others and when you come together with like minded individuals who get you and want to support you,  it will truly bring at your greatest self, health, life and the way you show up to the world.

We have a light hearted conversation about the road to this episode and as we celebrate a year of being with our own Thrive Together community, we welcome the wonderful words of some of the ladies who have been part of this community to inspire and highlight what they have gained by being part of it. You will hear from Bron Williams, Leigh Evans, Kylie Espandiar and Bianca McKee.

Whether this is your first episode or your hundredth, we see you as being part of this community that is Peri Menopause Power.

Thank you for listening, supporting and following along with each of our episodes.  We are officially signing off for 2023, but will be back in 2024. Feel free to contact us with any guest or topic suggestions and if you haven't had the chance to leave a review, we would love you to do so!

Have a wonderful festive season and a safe and enjoyable New Year. See you in 2024.

With love and gratitude, Lisa and Nat

We give insights into our latest research survey and how this has driven creation of our Let's Talk community. The conversation emphasises the importance and the opportunity of education and support in the workplace, especially in traditional industries like law. Mona encourages women to prioritise their health, embrace self-care, and engage in open conversations about menopause.

Mona also advocates for increased menopause education and understanding across all demographics to foster empathy and support.

25 Nov 2024Menopause Inquiry Recommendations, with Senator Larissa Waters00:22:11

Welcome to Peri Menopause Power, where we dive deep into the transformative journey of perimenopause and midlife.

In this episode, we invited Senator Larissa Waters back to share in the response and recommendations following the Australian Senate Inquiry into Menopause.

Reflecting on what was presented to the Senate, it highlights how vitally important this awareness is and how all of our collective power can be the change we want to see for us and for women following us.

For those who missed the first chat we had with Larissa, you can find that at Episode 126.

Key Discussion Points

  • There was rare cross-party consensus on the recommendations for women's health issues, including perimenopause and menopause.

  • There are still significant gaps in education on women’s health, particularly by medical professionals.

  • The report highlighted a significant lack of domestic data on menopause, workplace participation and access to treatments, and how this impacts policy design, and

  • Why workplace rights and flexibility were central to the recommendations and could combat stigma and improve workplace equity.

In this episode, we start the conversation (of many episodes) about food and the importance of food as a lifestyle support strategy for Peri Menopause, in fact for life.

As we discussed many times, women go through many many changes throughout their entire lifetime and Peri Menopause is one of those significant changes as we know. As we transition through this phase of life we may start to recognise that what has worked for us in the past may not work for us now. As we evolve in our physical body so do the ways we look after ourselves during this phase and beyond.

A review of diet and lifestyle is helpful at this time because you will notice changes happening to your body as it is adapting to this next stage of life.

Food nutrition can play a significant role in supporting a healthy menopause journey offering you an opportunity to use food as lifestyle medicine without adding too much to your to-do list...As Lisa says let's make sure we get bang for our buck with the nutrients, goodness and support from the food we eat.

In this episode, Lisa shares great insights into macro and micro nutrients, structuring your plate and blood sugar control.

Food nutrition is a core part of the services we offer our clients through coaching and workshops. If you would love to learn more about how food can support your health, your life and of course Peri Menopause journey you can book in a complimentary coaching chat with us. We can work with you in person or online, so we can support you no matter where you are in the world!

13 Mar 2022Building your confidence during Peri Menopause with Vanessa Murphy00:35:17

In Today's episode we are excited to be joined by confidence coach Vanessa Murphy. Vanessa is the Founder of VM Coaching and the host of Women In Confidence podcast - her businesses enable women to be their truly brilliant and confident selves at work. As well as running her own confidence coaching practice, Vanessa is also a Senior HR Business Partner for a global automotive company.

Vanessa touches on her own Peri Menopause experience and is open about her own confidence wobbles through the years. Vanessa leads with empathy and integrity and shares some really practical tips for building and nurturing your confidence.

We know you will love this chat we have with Vanessa as we evidence continues to shows that during menopause so many women feel they are losing their confidence. Prior to Peri Menopause, they had a level of confidence that made them feel good but now during this phase they’ve started second guessing themselves. The inner critic is rearing her head and the things that they did so easily now are becoming more challenging.

06 Mar 2022The power of letting go00:09:57

In this weeks episode we bring you something a little different. We have used this episode to introduce you to one of the most beautiful poems we have ever heard - She Let Go which is written by Saffire Rose.

When Natalie first stumbled upon this poem she was taken with it immediately and knew she had to share it with our community. The words depict so beautifully the opportunity and struggle for us women to simply let go. And you might have a different perception of the words and resonate with them for different reasons but the the simplicity of deciding to let go as per the words, gives the sense of hope, choice and power.

We hope you enjoy this episode and more specifically the beautiful poem. If you can take a moment whilst listening to this episode to bring about a sense of peace and stillness.

If you would like to listen to Natalie's meditation She Let go on Insight Timer, be sure to take a listen here

We also coach and guide our clients on bringing greater self awareness, love and compassion to themselves through meditation, you can book a discovery call with us here to learn more about this service to support you.

04 Sep 2022Supporting Women's Mental Health with Liptember00:33:28

In this weeks episode we have an insightful chat with Marketing and Communications Manager of Liptember Foundation, Katrina Locandro. Katrina is a strategic mind and marketing force behind the Liptember Foundation. She has a literal sense of humour and an enormous passion for women’s mental health.

The Liptember Foundation supports every woman to achieve their optimal mental health. In 2022 Liptember launched the first ever, gender specific, National Research Study into women’s mental health. It identified critical areas of need; allowing us to fill the gaps in mental health programs, initiatives, support services and research.

In this chat with Katrina we specifically talk about the fact that 1 in 2 women are experiencing poor mental health, we discuss some of the key contributors of this along with and more specifically the data that they obtained about Menopausal women.

This research is profound and extremely beneficial in supporting women with their whole health from physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. We are thrilled to share this groundbreaking research with you through our conversation with Katrina. Be sure to visit the Liptember website to download your copy of the report and learn more about the foundation.

September is also the Liptember Foundations biggest awareness campaign where they encourage women to wear bright, colourful lipstick that made a statement and would help spark a conversation about women's mental health.

If you have loved this episode, we would love you to leave us a review or subscribe. It is our absolute pleasure bringing these episodes to you every week and your support is greatly appreciated. So thank you so much.
