25 Dec 20205 Lessons Learned From Making One of The Hardest Decisions Of My Life00:53:18

Making tough decisions is a part of life. It’s just that some take a much bigger toll than others.

Last week, I had to make one of the hardest decisions of my adult life.

I know this year has been pretty rough on everyone, and we all can't wait for it to end. For my family, it’s ending on a sad note.

About a month ago, our dog Cody, who has been with our family for 16 amazing years, was diagnosed with congestive heart failure. And a little over a week ago, his health started deteriorating rapidly.

He was really hurting, which put us in the position of having to ask ourselves a deeply heartbreaking question.

How do you know if and when should you euthanize your beloved animal companion?

Since it’s a very personal topic, I won’t be going into too much detail. But I also feel it’s a story I need to share.

We all face tough decisions in life at one time or another. These kinds of gut-wrenching experiences are devastating, but they can also teach us plenty - if we can find the strength and the courage to learn.

Today, I’m going to share with you the 5 lessons I’ve learned from all this.

If anyone out there is facing a similarly hard decision - I hope this episode finds you well.

Key Takeaways:

  • A different kind of episode (0:00)
  • The story of how Alli and I got Cody (5:00)
  • Learning about Cody’s heart condition (10:02)
  • Facing the devastating question of euthanasia (14:08)
  • Lesson #1: How to make hard decisions (20:07)
  • Lesson #2: About the grieving process (21:33)

  • Lesson #4: When does the sadness go away? (28:26)
  • Lesson #5: Why you should never let fear of loss stop you (35:38)
  • Summarizing the five lessons (39:16)
  • Closing thoughts about the power of mindset (49:43)

17 Feb 2022DISC Personality Test Round Table - All About Your Why and D.I.S.C Results00:38:00

Have you ever thought about how important mindset and personality are for success? I’m sure you’ve heard of mindset coaching and personality tests, but have you ever dived deeply into why you are who you are?

I have. And my team as well. Actually, Mandy Keene, mindset coach, had me and my team take the DISC personality test. She then reviewed with all of us what the DISC means and went over each of our reports in front of everyone.

We did the test primarily to learn things about ourselves (and each other). But it can also be used to get an insight into the personalities of job candidates before hiring them. In that way, I could immediately determine if a candidate would be a good fit for the role I’m trying to fill.

After Mandy analyzed our results, we had a roundtable talk where we brainstormed and talked internally about the test. It turned out to be an interesting chat, so I thought I could use it for our show.

That makes this episode somewhat different from others - I’m sharing our meeting, so you can see how we operate on a day-to-day basis.

Tune in and get a little look under the hood!

Key Takeaways:

  • My team took the D.I.S.C. personality test (00:00)
  • Recognize why you are who you are (03:49)
  • I always believe there's a solution (10:39)
  • Nature vs. nurture (12:14)
  • Use the D.I.S.C. test to get the most out of people (14:44)
  • Use the D.I.S.C. test for market segmentation (17:09)
  • When you are driven by anger (19:43)
  • The point of coaching (26:33)
  • Importance of structure and rules for effective business management (28:06)
  • Every D.I.S.C. type has positive and negative sides (29:18)
  • Go out there and break things (33:09)

Making money with your email list is a dream scenario for any online business.

Remember how, in the previous episode, I talked about the many benefits of owning traffic?

Well, THIS is how you make the most of it!

Before we go any further, I’d like to take a second here and point out some pretty outrageous misconceptions about email marketing.

People often have certain reservations about reaching out to their list. They fear that they’ll come off as “spammy” and overwhelm their audience with offers.

But that’s not what email marketing is about… Or marketing in general, for that matter!

So today, I’m going to explain the best strategy for making money with your email list WITHOUT having to worry about people unsubscribing.

Ready for another quick-fire marketing essential? Let’s do this!

Key Takeaways:

- Why people think email marketing doesn’t work (1:02)

21 May 2020Email List Building Founding Members Launch - Your List Is Your Asset00:48:24

We’re still in quarantine mode, and the updates I’ve been getting from friends across the industry got me thinking.

Some businesses are experiencing record lows, something you’d expect when the whole world is in full-on crisis mode. But still, at the same time, a significant number of companies are actually thriving.

How are these businesses prospering when others are struggling to keep the lights on? What is the one thing that all of these companies have in common?

The answer is simple. They all have a powerful mailing list.

Building your list has been a very frequent topic on my podcast. I’ve spoken about it passionately because I genuinely believe that it is a cornerstone of any successful business. At least those that are in it for the long haul.

But even though it’s massively important, lots of people find it challenging. And I’ve decided to do something about it.

Today, I’m going to share news about a new Email List Building Club I’m launching and what I intend to accomplish in doing so.

Key Takeaways:

  • How has the pandemic affected the industry? (1:22)
  • You need to acquire the right mindset (2:36)
  • Why are some businesses thriving in moments of crisis? (4:54)
  • What is the most valuable thing in your business? (9:42)
  • The Genius Paradox (12:32)
  • Why you need to build your list (22:45)
  • The benefits of having a membership program (24:19)
  • Why am I starting an Email List Building Club? (27:16)
  • Performance Marketer Founding Members Launch (28:30)
  • What's the end goal? (31:20)
  • How to become a Founding Member (39:48)

28 Jun 2022How to Get Organic Final Expense Leads as an Insurance Agent00:41:43

Hey Performance Marketers,

I have a real treat for you today.

My Insurance agent wanted to buy leads but didn't know how to structure a deal or figure out what he could pay for a lead. So I promised to explain this to him in a call that I would tape and share with my community b/c I knew it was going to be amazing.

You really don’t want to miss this one.

Let’s dive in!

Key Takeaways:

31 Jul 20209 Mistakes To Avoid When Choosing Your Lead Magnet Giveaway00:39:05

Are you making the most out of your lead magnets?

They are a powerful marketing tool, one that every marketer should know how to leverage.

You create a lead magnet to draw out a specific action from your audience. But while you’re offering a piece of content for free, you’re also asking something in return.

Depending on your goals, you could ask for an email or a phone number or maybe request a particular action, like subscribing to a podcast or a YouTube channel.

Whatever it is you’re giving away, you’re using it to entice your audience to engage with you.

Essentially, you’re making an ethical bribe.

Lead magnets work so well because they’re built on an evergreen marketing principle - people love getting free stuff. Still, there’s a lot more you need to take into account to really make the most out of them.

Yes, creating a great lead magnet will skyrocket your conversion rate. But on your way there, you’re bound to run into all sorts of common traps. If you’re not careful, they could completely derail your campaign.

I’ve seen people make the same mistakes over and over again when it comes to lead magnets. All of them are easily avoidable.

And so for today, I want to share with you some essential questions you should always ask yourself before putting your lead magnet into place.

This checklist of top 9 mistakes to avoid when choosing a lead magnet giveaway will ensure you’re on point every single time.

If you want to get a PDF of the full list, sign up to my SurveyDetective VIP waitlist through the link below, in the Additional Resources section!

07 Apr 2020How to Apply for a Forgivable Loan Under the PPP: A Guide for Entrepreneurs and SMBs00:26:02

If you’re an entrepreneur or a small business owner, you may be qualified for a forgivable loan. Last week, the government put into place the Paycheck Protection Program which can help you cover payroll expenses.

We’re facing some uniquely challenging times and this is will definitely go a long way to helping keep the economy going until the Coronavirus pandemic is under control and dealt with. I encourage you to contact your accountant, your lawyer or reach out to your bank as soon as you can and apply for a forgivable loan.

All businesses with up to 500 employees are can apply and although the program is planned to remain open until the end of June, there is a funding cap that will likely be reached before that time. Another reason why you should apply asap is that lenders need time to process your loan.

I’ve recorded this bonus episode to share my experience with filling out the application and answer some of the FAQs related to the PPP and the submission process. Check it out, apply if you’re eligible and I hope my experience can be of use to you. Stay safe, everyone!

Key Takeaways:

  • What is the Paycheck Protection Program? (0:43)
  • Who is eligible to apply? (5:17)
  • What counts as a payroll cost? (8:07)
  • Rules you need to follow in order for your loan to be forgiven (10:00)

08 Jul 2021Seeing Through the Matrix: THIS Is the Method I Use to Absorb Other People’s Frameworks00:38:15

In the previous episode, I shared a powerful moment from a Russell Brunson event I went to recently. It was a 2-day seminar centered on his Perfect Webinar framework.

I’ve listened to Russell’s Perfect Webinar lecture on YouTube about 20 times. I knew the words, I understood the framework, but after this seminar, for the very first time - I feel like I REALLY know it. Back to front, all the elements, processes… As if it were my own.

On the flight back, I watched a movie, and it hit me. I felt like Neo!

I was looking at the Matrix and seeing through the code. Everything became perfectly clear to me!

So for today, I want to talk to you about this experience and what it meant for me.

I’m going to explore the method that helped me achieve this deep understanding of the Perfect Webinar so that you can apply it to any framework you want to master.

Also, I want to share a few words to talk about SurveyDetective and what I think the next step in my journey ought to be.

Let's get going!

Key Takeaways:

18 Jun 2020Ask Your Audience What They Want - Investigate Using Surveys00:31:18

In the last couple of episodes, I have introduced two powerful survey types performance marketers rely on to get results. Today, I’m going to spend some time bringing these two stories together.

Discovery and segmentation surveys go hand in hand and complement each other perfectly. If you’re just using one without the other, you’re not utilizing their full potential.

This episode is all about maximizing the gains from applying these essential types of surveys.

Now that we’re using the right tools, we’re going to focus a little bit more on the process. We have the surveys, and today we’re talking about what makes a SurveyDetective.

One of the most common mistakes I’ve seen marketers make is to overthink their role. I’ve seen them spend countless hours trying to wrap their head around the things their audience wants. To be perfectly candid, I’ve been in that situation myself during the earlier parts of my career.

Luckily, I was able to figure out just how futile these attempts were. Not only was it ridiculously challenging for me to guess the needs of my audience, but it shouldn’t have been a part of my role in the first place.

Thanks to surveys, I learned there was a much better way.

Instead of guessing, I started asking.

Key Takeaways:

  • What makes a performance marketer? (1:05)
  • How does SurveyDetective provide entrepreneurs with an edge? (1:53)
  • Why do people struggle to generate leads? (3:06)
  • How to investigate your audience (4:42)
  • What makes segmentation surveys so powerful? (6:58)
  • Why you should always use a discovery survey first (8:46)
  • A quick recap of the segmentation survey funnel (10:07)
  • Creating a crucial perception within your audience (16:21)
  • A mini case study - How does Apple sell its Macintosh laptops? (16:51)
  • There is no “one way” of doing things (19:08)
  • The biggest mistake people make when using surveys (22:31)
  • What “finding your voice” really means (26:02)

16 Apr 2020How to Make Offers That Create Cash Flow - Brad Hart00:49:22

For this week’s episode, I had the pleasure of talking to Brad Hart, an affiliate marketer, coach, and founder of Make More Marbles.

Brad has a remarkably rich backstory, and it’s very inspirational. Some of the challenges from his journey include a pretty turbulent childhood and changing careers several times over. But even though he ended up finding incredible success with his career, and at a very young age as well, he still wasn’t feeling happy.

And it wasn’t until he started attending Tony Robbins seminars that he got in touch with his values and pivoted to doing work he found way more fulfilling. Today, he’s mainly focusing on masterminds, coaching, and mentorship. One of his most recent accomplishments include ranking top 10 in the Knowledge Broker Blueprint affiliate program.

I’m delighted that I got a chance to talk to him and go over his strategy for crafting offers. Brad was so generous with his process. At one point during, he even did a share-screen and meticulously described every single aspect of his funnels. So get ready for some intense note-taking because these are the kinds of insights you won’t get anywhere else.

For me, it was such an exciting conversation to have, and I genuinely hope you all enjoy it as much as I did.

Key Takeaways:

  • Brad Hart’s background and how he got into the business world (1:19)
  • Leaping across industries to discover his success (5:56)
  • Why becoming successful at a young age sometimes backfires (8:35)

27 Sep 2021Part 1 | Lead Generation Arbitrage - A Huge Opportunity00:21:44

Back in my mid-twenties, I did enjoy being part of the Wall Street world, but I knew something was missing.

I just felt like I didn’t have control of my life, my destiny. And I thought it was vital that I dictate my future and my values.

So, I left Wall Street and got into marketing.

And I NEVER regret it!

The minute I started to learn about online marketing, I immediately loved it.

I love everything about it - advertising, being online, and having so much opportunity.

This is the first of three episodes in which I cover the topic.

So, tune in and learn the basics of buying leads, selling leads, and making money in the process.

And this is low-hanging fruit, I promise!

Let’s dive in!

26 Mar 2020How To Find And Narrow Down Your Market Niche Using Surveys00:22:51

I believe there’s no reason you can’t make money and do good at the same time. Being a good performance marketer is all about providing people with value. You’re looking to match a product or a service with people who need it.

Looking at the market as a whole, you should be able to understand two things - it’s gigantic and diverse. But marketing is all about efficiency, and performance marketing even more so.

You have to make the most money by investing the least amount of resources or efforts. That means you can’t go out and offer your product or service to anyone. You need to target people who are most likely to buy it.

Determining and understanding your target niche allows you to scale your performance marketing business, grow your list exponentially, and get better quality leads. The more you know about the people you’re targeting, the better you are at crafting your message. In the end, they’ll be more likely to resonate with what you have to offer.

Today, I’m going to dive into some of the critical concepts revolving the topic of nurturing your leads so that you can find your niche and narrow it down. After that, I’m going to share a little secret that will help you use information about your niche to control traffic and build your list further.

Key Takeaways:

  • How to be successful at what you’re trying to do (0:56)
  • Generating leads and driving traffic (1:39)
  • Nurturing your leads using surveys (3:46)
  • How to pick and determine your niche (5:17)
  • Finding success by modeling the things that work (8:14)
  • Why is finding out there is competition a good thing? (11:40)
  • Is there a way to make money and do good at the same time? (14:54)
  • The best way to control traffic (and other Traffic Secrets by Russell Brunson) (17:11)

25 Aug 2022Arbitrage Strategies: The #1 Rule to Decide Who Acquires a Customer00:40:34

Hey Performance Marketers,

What comes to your mind when you hear this Dan Kennedy quote (which was also quoted by Russell Brunson) - "Whoever pays the most to acquire a customer wins"?

I know many people have misunderstood this, so I want to dive deeper into this subject with simple Math while also sharing with you some valuable arbitrage strategies you can use.

Remember, though, that there are a lot of variables to consider before you decide to pay more for acquiring a customer and before even Google would award you with relevant traffic.

In today's episode, I'll talk about…

- cost per click vs. revenue per click

- how can you afford to pay more for acquiring leads

- how Google makes money from ads

- how do you become the most valuable offer to them

- and more….

Tune in now as we dive deeper into the numbers with these arbitrage strategies and the absolute truth behind the saying - "whoever pays the most to acquire a customer wins."

So let's waste no time and dive in!

Key Takeaways:

  • Intro (00:00)
  • What's your revenue per click - explained (02:06)
  • How Google makes money from ads (08:26)
  • How can you afford to pay more (17:26)
  • Example of pay-per-click strategy (22:29)
  • Increasing the value of your offer (26:43)
  • How to figure out the value per click (31:01)
  • Episode wrap-up (34:50)

17 Sep 2020How to Invest in Companies Without Using Your Own Money With Tom Shipley00:33:11

Investing in companies isn’t a privilege reserved for the financial elite. You could start doing it tomorrow, even if you don’t have millions of dollars lying around in your bank account.

Today, we’re going to talk about how to invest in companies with other people’s money, and I don’t think there’s a better person to talk about it with than Tom Shipley.

Tom is a serial entrepreneur, strategic advisor, investor, and an expert in omnichannel brand building. About 20 years ago, after a career in the special forces, he began his entrepreneurial career with just $100 in his pocket.

His first-ever business idea was on point, but he was determined to learn more about systems, processes, and analytics to raise his game. In pursuit of those skills, he ended up with a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in Industrial Engineering.

In 2005, he co-founded Atlantic Coast Brands and grew it into one of the largest direct to consumer multi-brand companies in America. One billion dollars in revenue later, and he’s still very much actively looking for new opportunities to build brands and explore platforms that can scale.

This episode is a masterclass on investing in companies, full of practical tips, real-life examples, and resources that will help you learn the craft from scratch.

There’s a lot of stuff we need to unpack here, so let’s dive right in!

27 Aug 2020Honor & Fire: Helping Entrepreneurs Learn About Family Systems With Josh Latimer00:32:18

This week on the podcast, I'm joined by Josh Latimer, aka Automate Josh!

With years of experience as a serial entrepreneur, Josh founded, grew, and sold three highly successful businesses. These days, he focuses on teaching, coaching, and helping small business owners understand the power of automation and systems.

After listening to a cassette tape of Rich Dad, Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki, Josh felt inspired to dive into the exciting world of entrepreneurship. He began his journey with a brick-and-mortar window-washing business, which he later grew to just under $200k in monthly revenue!

A software company, an education company, and a podcast later, we meet Josh to discuss his latest project - Honor & Fire.

Josh and I share a core value. We believe there's nothing more important than family.

As entrepreneurs, everything we do comes back to bettering the lives of those we love most.

Unfortunately, achieving work-life balance is rarely easy, especially when it comes to entrepreneurs. With only 24 hours in a day, many people struggle to cope with the challenges of being a business owner.

In those types of situations, family life is usually the first thing that suffers... Unless you do something about it.

"We need to build wealth... But we don't need to burn our household to the ground in pursuit of it." - Josh Latimer

Today, Josh is going to share a vision of Honor & Fire, an educational program for entrepreneurial families that he co-designed with his wife, Ashley. Using family systems, they aim to empower small business owners to build a business of their dreams without sacrificing quality family time.

In this episode, Josh will present a high-level overview of the program, and together, we'll explore the key points of his marketing strategy.

Key Takeaways:

  • Balancing entrepreneurial and family life (2:15)
  • Josh Latimer’s background, career, and vision (4:20)
  • How is Honor & Fire going to help small business owners? (6:54)
  • Why is your relationship with money a key factor in your success? (8:35)
  • Who is the target audience for Honor & Fire? (10:47)
  • The pros and cons of acquiring leads solely through content marketing (12:01)
  • How to change people’s lives effectively (13:25)
  • Why is getting results crucial for marketing? (16:49)
  • Emotions and transformation (19:12)

22 Jul 2021Why Change Is Good: Quick-Fire Tips for Aspiring Entrepreneurs Afraid to Take the Next Step00:12:44

Change is inevitable, which is why we must learn how to deal with it.

I just dropped my kids off at summer camp, where they’ll be staying for the next four weeks. We haven’t been apart for so long in a while, and it was a difficult moment for all of us.

But on the drive back, I was inspired to think about change. I recorded some of these thoughts so I could share them with you!

We all seem to react similarly to change, whether we’re kids being dropped off at camp or entrepreneurs starting a business.

And more often than not, change makes us anxious and afraid. And even though that’s a perfectly normal reaction, we should fight these sensations because they’re not doing us any good.

When we’re facing change, I firmly believe the best course of action is to take a step back and reflect on what’s happening. The better we understand where the anxiety is coming from, the better we can fight it using rational arguments.

For this week’s episode, I will be sharing some quick-fire tips on dealing with change to help aspiring entrepreneurs who are struggling to take the next big step in their careers.

If you’re plagued by worry about change, make sure to give it a listen!

Key Takeaways:

- What do aspiring entrepreneurs and kids going to a summer camp have in common? (1:06)

- Focus on the things you can control! (2:26)

- We all deal with anxiety… (4:06)

- Why change IS good (7:08)

- The sobering truth about failure (8:42)

16 Jan 2020The Biggest Marketing Secret I Learned Over the Last Decade00:15:58

Over the last ten years working in the affiliate marketing industry, I’ve had the chance to gather extraordinary insights. But the number one thing that I discovered which gave me a consistent competitive edge in business was how to convert cold leads into customers using surveys.

One of the biggest mistakes marketers make these days is customizing their core product when targeting specific sections of the market in an attempt to meet these needs. It requires a lot of time and effort, it’s incredibly difficult to pull off, but most of all - it’s completely unnecessary!

The solution? Never change your core offer, only customize the message. And relying on surveys to do that will get you the best possible results.

Tune in to hear more about one of the biggest marketing secrets I’ve learned in the last decade. I could never repeat all the success that I’ve had without it.

Key Takeaways:

  • How to convert cold leads using surveys (1:12)
  • One of the biggest mistakes marketers make today (1:48)
  • The three steps for using surveys to convert cold leads (2:31)
  • How Nike discovered and cashed in on a new niche using surveys (5:32)
  • How surveys helped me pick the perfect name for my product (8:58)

10 Mar 2022Part 2: How to Model a New Business (Email List Management)00:30:03

Hey Performance Marketers, welcome to the second part of the episode - we’re going to continue modeling a new lead generation business. This time I’m diving deeper into email list management.

I’ve prepared some scenarios to show you how I guestimate if a project is worth investing in. I picked some real scenarios with pretty conservative, down-to-earth projections so you can see how serious money can be made in this business.

What’s the best part?

You don’t need to have any product to sell, or huge investment, or even employees - you can be a one-man shop and still be mega-successful. You only have to understand email marketing and be willing to hustle. (Good old hard work is always the right answer.)

So, tune in for the new episode and learn how to monetize leads by sending third-party offers, how to get revenue from an email list management partnership, and how you can be profitable with a 0.6% click rate.

Welcome to another episode that is worth listening to several times.

Let’s jump in!

Key Takeaways:

  • A one-man shop generating millions of dollars from email list management (00:00)
  • A list management agreement (example) (04:45)
  • The power of owning an email list (07:52)
  • Get 15-20 years of experience for free (10:05)
  • Variables and projections explained (11:20)
  • You have to hustle, but don’t share your equity without a really good deal (15:08)
  • What does the 0.6% click rate really mean? (17:29)
  • Pikers who spam people (20:59)
  • Groupon deals (example) (22:38)
  • A model to be always profitable (24:55)
  • Reasons to listen to this podcast multiple times (26:47)

24 Mar 2022(Part 2): Evaluating Online Traffic: Two Metrics That Matter When Arbitraging Media00:33:15

Hey Performance Marketers,

I’m still on a mission to obsess over the customer and make an impact on the lives of people who need help in this stuff. Last time we started talking about the process of evaluating media and determining if certain media buying campaign works for us.

There was a lot of maths, and we’ll continue the calculations today. Well, it’s better to say that we’ll be playing with numbers to figure out what’s the most profitable for us. Don't you roll your eyes - numbers tell us everything.

I just need several numbers to tell you what’s going on in a business - don’t need to look at its ad or landing page. And I want to teach you the power of data in a simplified way.

I could be diving into these things for days. But I’m trying to keep it simple and share the essence of the business - to filter what’s really important, so you don’t have to waste time on the noise around the core metrics.

So, let’s dive into optimizing and scaling the business, some more mistakes people usually make when buying media, and a tip or two on how to take a calculated risk.

Well, you better stick around!

Key Takeaways:

  • Numbers tell me everything (00:00)
  • How does your audience want to consume your content? (02:54)
  • Math is everywhere (04:55)
  • Making less margin but more money (08:02)
  • Increasing the amount of traffic but losing money (14:50)
  • How to make more money on the backend (17:25)
  • What can you afford per click to generate a lead (23:23)
  • I just want to obsess over the customer (29:54)

01 Jul 2021Everybody’s Human: A Message That Every Entrepreneur Should Keep Close to Heart00:38:02

I haven’t taken a business trip in what felt like ages. But recently, I went up to Boise for this event, and it was exactly what I needed.

I attended a Russell Brunson event, and I witnessed something that inspired me to do this episode.

The seminar was great. I was locked up in my own house for so long, working all day, and I needed something to break out of that routine.

Not only did it provide me with a reset I desperately needed, but it was such a relief to see that other people were going through the same things I was. And in that, I found a great sense of camaraderie and belonging. Still, it’s not exactly what I wanted to talk to you about today.

At one point, we were all asked to share our thoughts and impressions. And this lady came up to the microphone and started crying. But when she explained what she felt - it was super clear to me.

It’s something I experienced a long time ago, but a lesson I still keep very close to my heart. A message I turn to whenever self-doubt starts to show its ugly face.

Everybody’s human.

Today, I’m going to share some of my deepest thoughts on this subject, and I hope my words find you well.

Key Takeaways:

- Everybody’s human - a message to all entrepreneurs (0:00)

- My first business trip in a very long time (2:20)

- An important lesson I learned at an early age (what A-Rod taught me…) (7:41)

- What happens when you focus on what you’re doing and ignore the rest? (11:51)

- We all get scared, we all fight insecurities... (15:13)

- A moment from the event in Boise that shocked me (17:41)

- How to become an expert (anyone can do this!) (21:44)

- Lessons learned from playing golf (25:00)

- A really powerful way to reset (32:15)

11 Dec 2020How Does Watching Movies IN REVERSE Help You Become a Better Entrepreneur?00:28:54

When I was a kid, I used to go to the movies with my friends all the time. And we had this little trick, where, after it ended, we’d sneak into another theater so we could watch the last 20-30 minutes of a different movie.

Later, when I would watch that same movie from beginning to end, knowing the ending completely changed the entire experience.

Watching the story unfold in a different direction gave me a lot more insight into the movie structure itself.

So what does starting a business and watching a movie in reverse have in common?

For us, it was all about having fun and watching as many movies as we possibly could.

I realize now that this is also an excellent method for learning about the best way to develop a roadmap for your brand new business.

Great entrepreneurs start at the end and work their way back.

When you define an ending, you also give your journey a powerful sense of direction. And when you know how the story ends, it’s a lot easier to work your way back to the beginning and map out all the steps you need to go through before getting to where you want to go.

Today’s episode is dedicated to all entrepreneurs out there who are feeling a bit stuck. I hope this trick will help you get moving again!

Key Takeaways:

  • Things you can learn from watching a movie in reverse (1:03)
  • Why your business needs a roadmap (3:57)
  • How to build a roadmap for your new business (7:35)
  • Why ALL great entrepreneurs start at the end (11:59)
  • The main reason why good products fail (14:03)
  • What does the end of your movie look like? (18:32)
  • One of the biggest challenges I’ve had with SurveyDetective (20:50)
  • Pick an ending that works for what you’re trying to accomplish (23:22)
  • What's to learn from mapping out other people’s success stories (26:29)

17 Aug 2021A Great Hack for Discovering FREE Secrets to Success (2021 NFL Hall of Fame Speeches Breakdown)00:29:07

My favorite way to start my week is to get a strong dose of motivation. How do I do it? It’s simple...

I watch greatness!

Coaching is a great way to fast-track your success. Still, I often hear people saying they just don’t have money for it.

So what do I mean by watching greatness? Modeling your success doesn’t end with companies. There’s plenty of people out there who’ve already done what you’re looking to achieve.

If you listen carefully to what they say, you’ll discover some of the biggest secrets of success - free of charge!

I find myself drawn to athletes and listening to their stories. Recently I watched the 2021 Pro Football Hall of Fame induction ceremony. Some of the best NFL players of all time gave inspiring speeches, and I was so moved by their words I decided to dedicate this week’s show to it!

In this episode, I’m going to be breaking down their amazing quotes about success, overcoming adversity, self-respect, legacy, and many other precious lessons.

I hope their words inspire you as much as they’ve inspired me.

Key Takeaways:

16 Jul 202021 Mistakes You Want To Avoid When Building Your Survey (and How to Avoid Them)00:28:43

When you’re trying to learn a new skill, there are certain things you can always count on. There is always going to be some kind of a learning curve, and some people will find it easier than others.

One thing is sure - no one ever got it right on the first go. I’ve been in this business for over 20 years, and there’s no doubt that the difference between my first and most recent survey is nothing short of astronomical.

So we all learn by failing at first and getting better as we go. But why we fail and how speaks worlds about the speed of our journey.

In all my years of building surveys and helping others do the same, I’ve seen people disrespect the process countless times. And as long as you’re trying to pull questions out of thin air, hoping you'll stumble upon crucial information about your audience - you’ll always be a long way from harvesting the true power of surveys.

You can mess up a survey in many ways, although some are much more common than others. I recently set a challenge for myself and was able to list out the 21 most common mistakes people make when building surveys.

Today, I’m going to share every single one and explain exactly how to avoid them.

There’s a lot of ground to cover, so let’s get to it right away!

Key Takeaways:

  • The right way to build surveys (0:55)
  • 21 mistakes to avoid when building your survey (2:02)

17 Mar 2022(Part 1) Evaluating Online Traffic: Mistakes You Want to Avoid When Buying Media00:43:22

“Give a person a fish, and you feed them for a day. Teach a person to fish, and you feed them for a lifetime.”

Are you ready to learn how to fish? Because I’m ready to teach you how to find the fish so that you don't need me (or anybody else). It's the high-level framework, the strategy you can use no matter where you're buying media.

Today, I'm going to take you through the process of evaluating media. I’ll show you how to buy traffic and determine if it works for you. What I want you to understand is the concept of analyzing the traffic and how to best optimize what you're doing.

So tune in for the first of two episodes and find out:

- how to analyze data to see if your campaign is working or not

- how to optimize and scale the business

- what mistakes people usually make when buying media

Let’s dive in and catch some fish!

19 Mar 2020How To Use A Survey Funnel In Your Marketing And What To Do Next00:16:16

Last week, I shared a lot of good stuff about email marketing and sequencing. Mastering how to write emails and make sequences that convert is one of the final steps of my performance marketing framework. And since last week’s episode was heavy on the technical, today, I’m going to dive right into the practical side of things and try to bring the whole story together.

So if you’re still struggling to see the bigger picture, this episode should clear everything up on the macro level. I dedicated my previous lessons to exploring the earlier steps of my framework, and here, I’m going to give you an example that will show you how to apply everything that you’ve learned so far.

Once again, if you feel like you need to go back to the previous episodes and familiarize yourself with the concepts. Once you get the terminology down and have all the framework components in your head, you’re going to start recognizing them in the world around you. And when you’re able to do that, you’re progress will speed up exponentially.

Key Takeaways:

  • How to segment your audience through surveys (+ example) (0:58)
  • A performance marketing case study (3:02)
  • Get to know your audience and understand your core offer (9:34)
  • How to craft your message (10:48)
  • Why is creating win-win situations so important? (11:58)
  • Summarizing the performance marketing framework (14:18)

15 Jul 2021Are You Addressing Your Buyer’s Pain or Pleasure Points With Your Message? Here’s WHY It Matters...00:15:33

In order to craft a great marketing message, you need to have this one, unique skill. But let me back up a bit...

One of the biggest mistakes marketers make is they try to guess what their audience wants. More often than not, this approach leads to disastrous results.

When you assume your personal opinions, values, attitudes, and challenges are relevant for your audience, you’re setting yourself up for failure.

“It’s NOT about what YOU want… It’s about what THEY want!” - Eric Beer

Being able to put yourself into your audience’s mindset is a crucial marketing skill, which allows you to craft messages that resonate with your audience. And it shouldn’t be a guessing game.

You can have amazing results by simply asking! Creating surveys has worked wonders for me, and when Survey Detective launches, I’m confident it will for others as well.

A great strategy for understanding your audience is to consider some of the key motivators present in human psychology. So for today, I’m going to go over one of the most common frameworks for understanding the wants of your audience, popularly known as the pleasure-pain principle.

I will explore several marketing situations where this principle applies and explain how it affects your ability to create a powerful marketing message that converts!

Key Takeaways:

- A HUGE mistake many marketers make when crafting their message (1:09)

- Understanding your buyer’s mindset: avoiding pain or pursuing pleasure? (4:50)

- What happens when you figure out your audience’s “why?” (7:41)

- “It’s not about what YOU want…” (10:18)

- Segmenting your audience by the pain-pleasure principle (12:10)

For this week’s episode of the Performance Marketer Podcast, I had the pleasure of welcoming Stu McLaren, an expert in the field of creating recurring revenue with online memberships.

Stu was one of the co-founders of WishList Member, the world’s leading membership platform for WordPress. Throughout his career, he has developed a unique perspective about the membership and subscription markets. And the insights he’s pulled together over the years apply to virtually every market out there.

Today, he’s going to share some of the top membership secrets out there, go over a bunch of examples, and solve problems on the go. This conversation is a masterclass on membership, and I was delighted to be a part of it. Trust me - you do not want to miss this episode.

At the moment, the applications for Stu’s free workshop on membership are still open. It’s called the TRIBE Workshop, it’s held once per year, and there’s not much time left, so make sure to check it out right now using the link below, in the Additional Resources section.

06 Jan 2022Frameworks Within Frameworks: 3-Step Framework to Get Traffic01:08:00

How to find leads? How to get traffic?

If I had $1 every time I heard these questions…

Everyone asks me that all the time - people at conferences I go to, entrepreneurs, guys in my text community… It’s wild! And I truly love it! Because that means people want to learn. Plus - they think that I have answers for them, which is great.

Because I do!

But first, I’d like to change the perspective slightly. Yes, you want to look for leads, and you need traffic. But I think the better question is how to find customers or potential customers. I don’t think you just want to get leads. But leads that will convert into customers? That’s a real thing!

So in this episode, we're going to talk about a three-step traffic framework… and some frameworks within the framework. I’ve also prepared a little presentation with a ton of valuable info, so this could be called a mini-course - but this one is free!

Then, tune in and find out how to determine who your customers are, where to find them, and how to position your product or service to your market.

There are also a bunch of helpful tips within this overall framework, so let’s dive right in!

Key Takeaways:

  • I don't need to make money by coaching (00:00)
  • How to get traffic? (03:16)
  • Defining marketing terms - market, leads, lead gen… (06:50)
  • Three-step traffic framework - Step #1 The Who (14:50)
  • Segmenting target market (20:22)
  • Four types of market segmentation (27:47)
  • Three-step traffic framework - Step #2 Where are they? (35:26)
  • Performance market makers (44:39)
  • Three-step traffic framework - Step #3 Market positioning (48:53)
  • Perceptual Map (53:26)
  • Recap (59:46)
