21 Jan 2019Perfect Bound Podcast – Episode 20600:43:53

Today, the gang talk about a number of things before getting down to business, including wrapping up their New Year’s Eve, the new Mystery Science Theater 3000, and the new Perfect Bound Podcast website – so check it out at perfectboundpodcast.com.

The first order of business today is discussing the new publisher TKO Studios, and how they plan to “shake things up.”

And secondly, it’s the return of the Stumble Bound crew, where Chris, Ben and Cole have a free-floating discussion fueled by pizza and beer. Among many other things, they talk about superhero movie fatigue, how they talk trash about both Marvel and DC, and Ben’s foray into the Schumacher Batman movies FOR SCIENCE!

28 Jan 2019Perfect Bound Podcast – Episode 20700:40:28

Today on the show, we welcome back the Stumble Bound crew at the top of the show to talk about toys. Cole first introduces us to Wayne D. Barlowe’s Power Lords toy line from Revell that unfortunately drowned in the cartoon-riddled toyscape of the 1980s.

Next, Chris tells us all about the Transformers: War For Cybertron toy line from Hasbro and the cool thing you can do with a blacklight and the box art.

The discussion weaves in and out of toy collection, speculation, nostalgia, and storage. If you’re a toy collector, then you can definitely sympathize with the turmoil we go through as toy aficionados.

Today’s episode comes to you from The Panel Jumper **LIVE** Chapter VII which occurred in Fremont’s own West of Lenin on Friday, February 22nd, 2019. Our guest was Kelly Froh, an Ignatz Award nominated cartoonist and Co-founder & CEO of the Short Run Comix & Arts Festival. We talk with Kelly about what brought her to Seattle, her beginning as a cartoonist, the creation and evolution of the Short Run Comix & Arts Festival, her upcoming book “Walking Uphill,” the story of Samson, Milwaukee’s Greatest Celebrity, and finally the shifting landscape of ‘zine culture.
To find out more about Kelly and the Short Run Festival, visit her Cargo Collective site, and the Short Run homepage.

A note on this episode, the Quiz Time music was mixed a little too loudly during the live broadcast. It’s hard to listen to, but the questions are fun, so power through. I blame myself. -Ben

09 Nov 2020Perfect Bound Podcast – Episode 27100:50:31

Frank Gogol
Today on the show, Cole and Ben welcome Frank Gogol. Frank is a San Francisco-based writer of Grief (Ringo Award nominee), Dead End Kids (Best New Series, The Independent Creator Awards), and No Heroine, all from Source Point Press.

The child of addicts, Frank’s a humble dude whose comics greatly reflect the world around him as he grew up. He spent much of his youth moving from place to place, with occasional stints in foster care and group homes as he dealt with his very complicated relationship with his mother. His first anthology collection, Grief contains short stories of addiction, betrayal and abandonment. Dead End Kids tells the tale of a group of Stephen King-esque outcasts as they try to solve the mysterious murder of one of their own, and No Heroine is about a woman trying desperately to stay clean – all the while doing her best to mend her relationship with her mother, find her place in this world, and kill as many vampires as she can. Volume 2 of Dead End Kids will be in stores in January, 2021.

Join us as we talk to Frank about:

• How he got involved with Source Point Press
• What inspired Dead End Kids
• Working with artists such as Ben Templesmith
• How he dealt with the success of Dead End Kids
