28 May 2021Sustaining hope in a challenging year00:21:40

This week’s episode of OPI Talk features two guests: Greg Gibson, VP and General Manager, North American Papers at International Paper, and Matt Dodd, Senior Executive Director of Corporate Philanthropy at City of Hope.

Gibson is this year’s National Business Products Industry’s Spirit of Life Honouree, spearheading the 2021 Sustain Hope campaign. NBPI has been supporting City of Hope for over 40 years, raising more than $220 million during that time.

This fundraising campaign has been like no other, of course, with so many physical events cancelled. One of these is the City of Hope medical research centre campus tour, typically held in February. As Dodd explains, this is being replaced by a Virtual Tour in mid-June, preceded by a final push for the NBPI’s personal giving campaign.

Gibson and Dodd talk to OPI’s Heike Dieckmann about this unique year – the challenges faced, the opportunities embraced and the progress made in terms of moving a step closer to City of Hope’s ultimate mission and focus – to eradicate cancer and diabetes.

03 Dec 2021Opportunities in the videoconferencing category00:38:18

When you look at what products and services businesses will need to function efficiently in a hybrid working environment, then a fit-for-purpose audio and video communications system surely makes the list.

Demand in the videoconferencing market has surged in the past couple of years and looks set for a period of sustained growth. For resellers that describe themselves as ‘solutions providers’ and want to go beyond the transactional selling of headsets and webcams, videoconferencing could be an interesting area to look at, particularly as it ties in with adjacencies such as furniture, ergonomics, acoustics, viscom and collaboration tools.

Sweden-based Konftel has specialised in B2B audio solutions for more than three decades, but is something of a ‘new kid on the block’ in videoconferencing. In this episode of OPI Talk, Andy Braithwaite speaks with Stefan Eriksson, Konftel’s Chief Marketing Officer, to find out more about the potential in this growing category.

Lyreco Germany’s Falko Köhler is making something of a name for himself in the business products industry.

Following an impressive appearance at last year’s OPI European Forum Online and a place in OPI’s 30 Under 30 feature, the now-31-year-old was presented with the 2022 Young Professional of the Year prize at March’s European Office Products Awards (EOPA).

In his EOPA acceptance speech, Köhler said: “We need to push a dusty industry into the digital era.”

21 May 2021What’s wrong with the office supplies channel?00:15:22

Acme United had another record quarter at the start of 2021 as its revenue surged by more than 20% year on year.

In this episode of OPI Talk, OPI News Editor Andy Braithwaite discusses these results with Acme CEO Walter Johnsen. Walter also offers some advice on what these channel players could be doing to improve their customer experience, and looks ahead to better times as more workers return to the office.

01 Jun 2022Update on the European aftermarket imaging supplies channel00:33:55

There have been a couple of big stories in the European aftermarket print supplies channel in the past few weeks.

First, it was announced that the European Commission had rejected a Voluntary Agreement for the imaging equipment sector, saying the proposals didn’t go far enough in terms of sustainability targets. That means the EU will now draft its own legislation for the sector.

And then, shortly after that, Clover Imaging announced it was pulling out of the European market, with almost immediate effect.

What does all this mean for the remanufacturing industry in Europe? Well, that is something that OPI News Editor Andy Braithwaite recently discussed with Gerwald van de Gijp and Bob Reynolds of Armor Print Solutions.

13 Jul 2022The 135-year-old start-up00:27:28

Writing instruments vendor uniball recently announced a rebrand of its operations in North America to uni.

As the company’s President Mike Parker says in this episode of OPI Talk, it’s more than just a name change. It’s symbolic of an ambitious strategy by uni to essentially double its sales in North America over the next five years as it looks to expand its product portfolio and grow its presence in the art and creativity categories.

Uni’s roots may go back 135 years, but it has very much a start-up mentality following the ending of a distribution agreement with Newell Brands, effective January 2020. That meant Parker – a former Fellowes exec – had to build the business out from scratch.
