30 Aug 2023 | Being Bold and Taking Risks in Midlife | 00:54:33
Being bold and taking risks in midlife - I love this topic because it goes against the conventional narrative of slowing down and becoming risk averse with age. Todays guest has thrown that idea right out of the window. After a very successful career in the fashion industry, dressing A list celebrities, Diane Gilman, “The Queen of Jeans” , reinvented her life and business to create a $100 million dollar jean brand at the age of 60. At 77, after bout with cancer she has reinvented herself yet again to become an author, podcast host and social media beauty influencer for older women. She shares her inspiring story of persevering through adversity and taking bold action to keep reinventing herself and creating a life she loves. One of the best pieces of advice that Diane shares, that I absolutely love, is getting to know who you are and what’s important to you because when you follow your heart you can never go wrong. This is such an inspiring episode. I’ve listened to it a few times. Diane is a true legend who is paving the way for all of us in taking bold action towards the life we want.

18 Mar 2021 | Lessons From My Reinvention Journey | 00:25:30
This episode of the podcast is a little different. It's the very first ever solo episode of the show. This is something that I have been resisting for a while. I made a promise to myself for 2021, to ramp things up a bit and get back to taking some uncomfortable steps for the growth of my mission to help as many midlife women as possible create their kick-ass next chapter. And for my own personal growth as well. Doing the podcast each week is one of my favourite things. I love interviewing guests and hearing their stories about how they got from point A to point B and the lessons learned along the way. But I've had a huge amount of resistance around sharing my own story. It has felt a bit vulnerable to put my whole life out there on the world wide web for everyone to hear. Not to mention listening to myself talk for 30 minutes. Why is it so hard to hear our own voices? So in this episode, I’m sharing all the gory details of how and why my life fell apart at the age of 50 and the process of rebuilding it to create my own kick-ass next chapter as well as all the lessons I have learned along the way. I would love for you to listen and let me know your thoughts. I hope that you can see yourself in some part of my story and that there's a thought or idea that might resonate with your own midlife reinvention journey. 21 Jan 2021 | Love Your Body At Any Age | 00:53:53
So many of us struggle with body image and weight gain as we age. Imagine loving your body exactly as it is while still achieving your weight loss and fitness goals. In today's podcast, I have a great conversation with Steph Miramontes, a Mind Body Transformation Strategist, about how we can achieve the results we want from a place of love and respect for our bodies instead of hatred and disgust.
Steph shares her own journey of struggling with negative body image and diet and how she overcame it. She shares how diets, even when we do lose weight, actually exacerbate body image issues and leave us still picking our body apart and wishing it was better.
We talk about how the health and fitness industry and media have tricked us into betraying our bodies based on an unrealistic and often unattainable ideal. Steph shares that the key to lasting transformation is an inside job focused on mind, body, and soul and rebuilding the most important relationship we have, the one with our ourselves.
I hope you enjoy this episode and learn more about how to start having a love affair with your body as it is, now.

12 Apr 2024 | Challenging societal norms of beauty and Age with Robin Bobbé | 00:45:05
If you have ever listened to the podcast you know that one of my pet peeves is the way older women are represented or rather under represented in mainstream media, unless of course its in ads for retirement plans, meal replacement shakes and bladder leakage products. The common definition of beauty does not include women in their 50’s and 60’s and beyond. My guest today is on a mission to change that. Robin Bobbe is the founder of Modern Agerer Casting, a casting agency that specializes in finding diverse talent of all backgrounds and ages. After starting a career in the fashion industry as stylist, she then went on the become an actress, a casting director and then a commercial model in her 60’s. Confronted by the lack of diversity that the model agencies offered, she armed herself with a polaroid camera and began combing the streets in search of the authenticity that reflected more diverse faces. We chat about:
There are so many great insights and nuggets of wisdom in this episode. If you’ve ever thought, even for second, that you’d like to try your hand at modelling no mater how old you are Robin encourages you to take the first step by reaching out to her. ——— Robin Bobbe is the founder of Modern Ager Casting. She has over 40 years of experience working with professional models and actors as well as non-professionals. She has worn many hats during her career in fashion, film and photography. Robin started her career as a stylist in Manhattan in the 1970’s. She spent the 80’s acting in Los Angeles and the 90’s behind the camera as an associate producer of documentaries of which one was nominated for an Academy Award. In 1999 she joined Photo Group a large print advertising production company, as an inhouse producer, but it was clear that casting was her real calling. Street casting became her specialty. She left Photo Group to start her own casting company in 2001 which continues today as ModernagerCasting, stalking her prey wherever she goes. In 2012, through The Actors Fund she started working with artists living with dementia offering creative activities which she continues to do today. She credits her 60’s for being her most creative decade yet and come March 30th she’s looking forward to seeing what’s waiting for her on the other side of 70.

07 Jan 2021 | The Unexpected Emotional Toll of Aging Parents | 00:49:39
Today's episode is the second in a series about caring for aging parents. It's an important topic that is impacting so many of my clients and this community. It's something that I am familiar with and am currently dealing with as well. The physical aspects of care are pretty straight forward but what is often unexpected is the emotional impacts it can have on us - fear, guilt, resentment and more. This conversation with Resa Eisen, a licensed therapist, social worker and mediator, sheds some light on how we as women can take charge of our emotional health while navigating this path with grace for all concerned. We talk about the importance of giving ourselves permission for the feelings that arise as we navigate the complex family dynamics when we go from being the child to the caregiver. During this podcast, we also chat about patterns of conflict that follow us from our families-of-origin and the cultural expectations for women as the primary caregiver, especially while we are in the midst of our own midlife struggles. There is also the added cultural imperative to be "unseen" and “ unheard”. Resa believes that women have the power within them to take charge of their emotional health, and provides her top 3 things we can do right now to make a shift for the positive. Todays episode is a very personal one. In fact I’m kinda having a it of a vulnerability hangover about sharing it. I interview my millennial daughter Stephanie about her perspective on midlife after having had a front row seat to my midlife reinvention journey. She shares her experience of watching my highs and lows, the changes she’s noticed along the way, how it has impacted her and how she now thinks about her midlife chapter. In spite of my resistance I’m sharing this episode because so often I talk about how our generation of midlife women is on the leading edge of the change of the cultural narrative and how we show up for ourselves will impact the midlife experience of future generations. And as a little personal review the episode, the last half is sooooo good.

Who wants to infuse friendships, life’s grounding lessons, and gather around a campfire in the spirit of fun to (re)discover who you want to be as you "grow up"? Does such a space even exist? The answer is yes.
Tammi Leader, after a 30-year career as an award-winning television producer, found herself a divorced single mom, burned out and no longer feeling fulfilled by her career and she knew it was time to reimagine her life.
Remembering back to the fun and community of her childhood camp days Tammi founded Campowerment, a transformational playground for women to learn, connect and grow together on purpose through a camp experience.
Campowerment provides the opportunity for women to find their passion and purpose, and step into a power that they may not even realize they have.
Tammi believes that the world is waiting for all of us. Every one of us has a superpower that we can get back if we get unstuck.
In this episode, we discuss how women from all walks of life come together to find themselves and get the support they need to live their best lives

Bio
Tammi Leader
Founder of Campowerment
“I left my TV career with two Emmys and a dream: to build communities of happy, empowered people ready to propel themselves forward.”
In 2013, after three decades as an award-winning Television Producer, Tammi Leader took a huge leap of faith, stepping out of the TV Studio and back into nature to create Campowerment, the purveyor of live and transformative, expert-led experiences, powered by play!
After moving from her hometown of Miami to Los Angeles to develop a health & wellness show for Telepictures (Warner Brothers) designed to help people live life bigger and better, with help from game-changing experts in every area of growth, Tammi was at the top of her career, and yet deeply unhappy. At 53, she set out to find that “happy place” within herself, so she went back to her roots…to the place of her happiest childhood memories: summer camp.
In partnership with her College Professor mother (Grandy) and Brand Strategist oldest daughter (Chelsea), and the support of her entire family, Tammi created a new concept, live and off-air: a sleepaway-camp-inspired experience where grown-up women (like her) could re-ignite their lives.
Enter: Campowerment, where Tammi invited in the power players who had impressed and inspired her during her many years at The TODAY Show, NBC News, CBS News, America’s Most Wanted, and EXTRA TV.
This new passion project, which became a business in 2013 when O Magazine named it one of the 50 things that made Oprah say, “Wow,” was the culmination of Tammi’s highest skills and most beloved concepts.
From the beginning, Campowerment has been featured in Forbes, Fortune, and Parade Magazines, the TODAY Show, CNN, The Hollywood Reporter, The LA Times, Miami Herald, Reader’s Digest, and lots s’more.
Tammi is currently working on a book about resilience and the power of kindred connection. We think her story has only just begun.

26 Nov 2020 | Women, Power and Societal Conditioning | 00:41:43
Today’s podcast is all about how centuries of historical and societal conditioning has impacted how midlife women are perceived in our culture and how we think about ourselves.
I chat with Melanie Klein who is a professor of Sociology and Women’s Studies and a respected thought leader in the areas of self-acceptance, body confidence and empowerment.
We have an amazing conversation about confidence, respect, invisibly and how we find empowerment in this time of life. We also discuss the astonishing statistics about the female image, aging and associated messaging that is so prevalent in our social media culture and how that impacts us through menopause and beyond.
Melanie shares the historical context for why we as women often fear our power and how getting out of our intellect and into the ‘feeling’ helps to us to reclaim it and take full ownership of all that we are and all that we are becoming as we age.
It's a fascinating conversation that sheds so much light on how we got to where we are and how we shift the narratives and perspectives moving forward.
I hope you enjoy this as much I did. Let me know what you thought.

29 Sep 2023 | Unconventional Relationships in Midlife | 00:51:05
A few months back I came across a series of articles talking about the differences between what men and women want in relationships later in life. So this week on the podcast my guest Barb Beck, an expert relationship and life coach, and I dive into why women are choosing unconventional relationships dynamics. There are lots of great reasons for “together but apart” relationships and also a number of considerations. 22 Feb 2024 | Changing The Menopause Conversation | 00:37:55
For so many years menopause has been a taboo subject - barely talked about between friends, let alone in mainstream media. I don’t know about you but I never heard the term peri-menopause before about 5 years ago. And as a result many women have suffered in silence, weren’t able advocate for their health and felt isolated and alone in their experience.
Today’s guest Laura Okafor-Crane is on a mission to change all that. She is the founder of Perry, affectionately known as the Perry Sisterhood, a platform and information resource for women in peri-menopause, approaching peri-menopause, and post-menopause. Perry is changing the way we talk about life during and after menopause by providing access to information, resources, expert advice and most importantly, as Laura shares, peer to peer support and community.
After watching her mother struggle through menopause in silence Laura wants to make ensure its a different experience for future generations. Perry is a safe space where women can come together to support each other. Its about education empowerment and self advocacy for all women in the menopause transition.
We talk about the lack of awareness and education on menopause in the medical community and how it often leads to to dismissive attitudes and misdiagnosis. Why community and peer-to-peer support is so important How empowering women with knowledge about menopause is crucial for them to make informed decisions now and in years to come How her expertise in global product management has been instrumental in the development and growth of the Perry platform.
If you are menopausal, approaching menopause or have questions about menopause this is the episode for you.
_________
Laura is the founder and CEO of perry – a community app for perimenopause with more than 12k members. perry is a safe space to connect, support and learn during the menopause transition.
Laura is a FMCG veteran with 12+ years global Marketing experience at Procter & Gamble and Coty. It is her greatest passion to build spaces that serve the underserved.
Having experienced her mother struggling in silence during the menopause transition and being a millennial who approaches perimenopause herself, she was shocked by how little the support system around fertility and pregnancy matches the support women get when approaching perimenopause - which is close to none.
It is her mission to equip the upcoming generation entering the menopause transition with community and education - allowing ultimate self-advocacy. Laura, being half Nigerian herself, loves Nigerian ‘Nollywood’ movies and lives with her husband and 2 sons.

Todays episode is an inspiring midlife reinvention story.
All too often we get stuck living what todays guest calls the “default life”, going through the motions of a life that happened to us rather than consciously choosing it. After loosing her brother in 9/11, suffering through a difficult marriage and a high stress job on Wall Street Mary Kay Duffy knew in her heart that she had to make some different choices for her life.
Taking the road less travelled, listening to her inner nudges and learning to trust herself led her to leaving the default life and growing a multi million dollar cosmetics business. We talk about creating your inspired future through trust and belief - in yourself, in something bigger than you and in possibility. This story is as heartwarming as it inspirational.

23 Dec 2020 | Have You Been Hypnotized That You're Over The Hill? | 00:39:40
You're going to love today's episode. It's a hilarious conversation with 77-year-old Hollywood actress Mariann Aalda who appeared in many popular 1980’s television shows. She shares her journey of realizing that she was being “Aged out" of her 30 year Hollywood career when the phone suddenly stopped ringing. But that didn't stop Mariann. She has since gone on to create, produce and star in several one-woman comedy acts about the experience of aging as a woman in our society. Her mission is all about empowering women to stand in their power no matter what age. We chatted about how we have been hypnotized and conditioned by the media and how that has translated into negative self talk about this time of life. There are so many hilarious one-liners from Mariann in this conversation. Get ready to have a great laugh. Here is the link to her Ted Talk we mentioned titled "Ageism Is a Bully...Stand Up to It!"- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YcP4UxY_Q9o&feature=youtu.be In the 1980s Mariann Aalda was a daytime television pioneer as one of the first - and still few - African-American daytime soap opera heroines, playing the feisty young criminal defence attorney, DiDi Bannister, on ABC’s EDGE OF NIGHT. Today, at 72 — after being “aged out” of Hollywood after a successful 30-year career in television, she’s blazing new trails...prosecuting ageism! You can find her on Instagram @mariannaaldathecronecrusader

22 Jan 2023 | Corporate Executive to Documentary Film Maker at 65 | 00:54:16
This weeks episode is an inspiring reinvention story about following your passion at any age. My guest Melissa Davey left her comfortable corporate position at the age 65 to become a documentary filmmaker. She had always had an interest in film but had no experience in the film industry before she set out this journey. Her first film Beyond 60 @beyond60 was released at the film festivals last year documenting the lives, lessons and experiences of 8 women over the age of 60. Such incredibly poignant stories and insights. I actually watched the film twice. Highly recommend it. Now at the age of 72 Melissa is about to release her second film Climbing into Life @climbingintolife. In this episode Melissa and I talk about what made her take the leap, how she navigated the unknown, what kept her going when things got hard as well her insights and advice for other women who may be sitting on the fence of a long held dream. 01 Jun 2023 | Trusting the Unkown | 00:51:32
This weeks episode is another ridiculously inspiring midlife reinvention story. After Covid turned her life upside down my guest Michelle Fishburne was left with no home, no job, no kids. The only thing she did have was an RV so she packed up her belongings and hit the road. With no idea where she was going or where life was taking her next Michelle faced forward, leaned into her natural curiosity and trusted the unfolding of events happening before her. Along the way she began talking to people she met about what they had lost and found during covid which lead her to become an accidental author of a book called “Who We Are Now: Stories of What Americans Lost and Found During the COVID-19 Pandemic”. Michelle continues to be a full-time nomad, living and working in her motorhome, Airbnb’s, and the occasional house-sitting gig. What is so inspiring about this story was Michelles unwavering trust in the unknown as she navigated what most of us would consider a very challenging set of circumstances. There are so any quotes, stories and anecdotes in this conversation that we can all learn so much from. I know I did. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1469671239/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_hsch_vamf_tkin_p1_i0

27 Jan 2022 | The Power of Gratitude and Meditation | 00:43:57
Gratitude and meditation are two practices that have made a huge difference in my own life. I would even go so far as to say they’ve been life-changing. Today’s guest Lori Saitz is the CEO of Zen Rabbit and host of the podcast “FINE is a 4-Letter Word.” She shares with us her journey to understanding the power of meditation and gratitude and why she now teaches others to do the same. In this episode, we chat about how we allow busy thoughts to clutter our minds and keep us from acknowledging important truths that need to be addressed. Lori agrees with me that you can only run from your truth for so long before life will find a way to make you listen. Will it take a whisper or will it take a brick upside the head?
Arthur Bio Lori Saitz is the CEO of Zen Rabbit and host of the podcast “FINE is a 4-Letter Word.” She’s a nationally recognized expert in using gratitude and meditation for business success. Entrepreneurial professionals hire her to help them achieve their goals faster – without working harder.
Through her first business, Lori introduced the world to The Gratitude Cookie and built what looked like a million-dollar business. She’s now evolved that experience into creating tools for moving from that place where you say everything’s fine – but it’s really not! – to fantastic.

16 Jun 2022 | Shifting Midlife Mindset for Fat Loss & Fitness | 00:45:09
Weight loss is probably one of the most talked about subjects when it comes to midlife and menopause. I don't think there’s anyone who has not struggled with this at some point on the midlife journey. But like everything else at this time of life, things change. What used to work for you no longer does and it can leave you feeling frustrated and hopeless. I know, I’ve been there. In todays episode with Amy Ledin, mindset, fitness & lifestyle coach, we talk about how menopause affects the metabolism and how we need to adjust our approach to find success. This is not about new low calorie diets and workouts it's about adjusting our mindset and strategies to work with our changing bodies instead of against them.
I found this to be such an enlightening episode that made so much sense to me. Have a listen and let me know what you think.

12 Feb 2022 | The Path to Finding Purpose | 00:13:56
Oftentimes, we hear these stories of other people finding their purpose in life and it sounds so grand, and they are making a ton of money from it. When the truth is, though that may very well be for them, that's not exactly how you may find your life's purpose. Finding purpose in midlife isn't necessarily connected to material gains. It's all about becoming the best version of you. I discovered a process that worked for me and has helped clients tune into themselves to find their purpose. Listen to this quickie episode as I share this process with you.

12 May 2022 | Living in Possibilities | 00:47:19
I loved the conversation with this week's guest Anne Zuckerman. She started her first successful online business in her 50’s and has continued to challenge herself and grow well into her 70’s, recently launching a new podcast called “Just Wanted to Ask”.
Anne shares with us her incredible life story about living with the attitude of “it’s possible”. She has proved to us all that staying open to what is possible, and challenging herself to keep learning, has been the key to her success in moving from brick and mortar to online business, and now into the world of podcasting.
I love Anne’s energy and light. When she told me her age I was floored. She has definitely found the fountain of youth through following her passions and staying open to possibility.
Such an inspiring conversation. It made me excited for what I'm going to be doing in my 70’s and beyond. Anne is a true inspiration. This episode is a must listen. I know you will be as inspired as I was.

06 Jan 2023 | Change Your Brain, Change Your Life | 01:14:46
If you listen to only 1 podcast episode this year let this one be it. This might be my most favourite conversation yet. I’m speaking with Nancy Sokol Green who is the founder and executive director of a global education program called Brain Highways. She is also the author of book called Connection mode - How to Change Your Brain For A Better Life, which as far as I’m concerned should be required reading for everyone.
Todays conversation is about how limiting beliefs, negative thoughts and bad habits can keep us stuck as a result of patterns in our nervous system. Nancys work shows that we have the power to shift these patterns to create the life we want to live. This is an especially important episode if you you’re in the process of creating some thing new in your life and feeling stuck or finding yourself facing fears and doubts about what’s possible. I know you are going to love this episode as much as I do.
Nancy Sokol Green is a former classroom teacher, teacher trainer, and author of innovative educational programs used in schools nationwide. In 1999, she created and implemented Brain Highways in the public schools, which has since evolved into the international Brain Highways Global program. 29 Oct 2021 | Reinvention: The Path Will Reveal Itself With June Morrow | 00:49:12
As much as we talk about midlife reinvention on the podcast; And we've had some pretty amazing guests. I am so excited to share this conversation with June Morrow who has reinvented herself time and time again over the course of her life. From lap dancer, to an author, to journalist, and now business coach with many stops in between. She is not afraid to follow her heart and begin again.
So many of us think about what it would be like to chase our dreams and follow our hearts but few of us find the courage to get things in motion. What I loved about this conversation with June is that she shows us that no matter what reinvention you might be undertaking the steps to get there are always the same.
Tune into this inspiring story about June's whirlwind life and amazing journey that has led her to end up in a place of happiness again and again.

31 Jan 2020 | Life without Limitation | 00:27:21
Joan MacDonald @trainwithjoan is a transformation inspiration for all of us. In her 70’s Joan took her health into her own hands and went from being overweight and unhealthy to a super fit bad ass who mastered her unassisted first pull up at the age of 72. How incredible is that? Recently Joan has appeared in several media outlets as the world catches on to how incredible this woman and her transformation is. We talk about the limitations we put on ourselves, finding your inner child at any age and staying committed to your goals even when things get tough. Her mantra is you can’t turn back the clock but you can wind it up again. Don’t you love that!! Yes, she changed her body but the most inspiring part was how much her outer transformation has impacted her self-esteem and how she shows up in the world. Joan is a true bright light. I loved our conversation and I hope that you find it as inspiring as I did. |
