Today I had a chat with award winning comedian & scientist Robyn Perkins who uses science to explain her shortcomings. We chatted about Robyn's story so far, how she uses science in comedy & her experience of climbing Kilimanjaro.
Robyn Perkins effortlessly combines scientific research with personal stories from her ridiculous life (yes, she really did lose half of her pants on her first night on Kilimanjaro). And when life doesn’t go to plan, Robyn uses her scientific background to explain why, whether it be a question of love and morality, decision-making or, now, competition and confidence, “blending science, comedy and a little hint of philosophy into an excellent show” (Scots Reviewer).
Honing her comic skills on the British, US and now Australian comedy scene, the “exceptionally charismatic” (Voice Magazine) Robyn has tackled some of life’s biggest and most emotionally charged topics on stage, and brought them right back to the audience with personal, relatable and hilarious real-life anecdotes. This has brought her international success, winning Sydney Fringe’s Comedy Award in 2019 and was a weekly winner of the comedy award at Perth FRINGE WORLD in 2020.

Today I chatted to British cruiserweight boxing champion Richard Riakporhe about his story so far, knife violence and boxing.
Richard grew up on the Aylesbury Estate in Walworth, London. At the age of 15, he was stabbed in the chest outside a house party, requiring emergency surgery to drain his lungs of blood. He soon realised his lifestyle could only result in two things - death or prison - so he decided to turn his life around.
in 2019 Richard was crowned British cruiserweight boxing champion and has had world champion Anthony Joshua sing his praises. Richard now campaigns in schools to educate and inspire children about the dangers of knife violence.
Lyle Zimmerman (a musician), was on his way to play a gig with his band on 5 December 2015. Mentally ill Muhiddin Mire, inspired by videos of the killing of Fusilier Lee Rigby, set upon the American native from behind as they approached the ticket barrier. The attacker, armed with a breadknife, then haphazardly attempted to cut his throat.
I speak to Lyle about this fateful day, his feeling about his attacker and we also speak about gun control in the US.
