12 Jul 2022 | 377: Anti Diet Does Not Mean Anti Health | 00:11:31
When people here anti diet here’s what they hear: Anti health. Anti nutrition. Anti vegetables. In this episode, we will talk about one of the concepts of intuitive eating to help you understand why there’s so much misinformation about this self care eating framework: Making peace with food.
Making peace with food involves giving yourself unconditional permission to eat. People take this to mean: you’re going to be eating every second of every day, eating foods you deem unhealthy forever. Honestly, when I hear this response, I know without a doubt, that the person sharing this concern is struggling with diet mentality.
Making peace with food is a powerful experience. And I would argue is one of the most health promoting things we can do for ourselves! FBPP is an 8 week group program that will teach you EVERYTHING you need to know in order to make peace with food, and also your body.
You're a great fit for FBPP if:
Are you ready for pro health, pro nutrition advice and SUPPORT on how to live in a peaceful place with food and your body? FBPP is open from today until July 22d or until all spots are filled. Click here to get started and reach out on Instagram if you have questions about the program!

10 Nov 2020 | 216: What is Thin Privilege? | 00:14:19
Today’s episode is an important conversation that NEEDS to be in podcast form. I’ve touched on thin privilege on Instagram posts and with guests on the show, but I wanted an entire episode dedicated to the subject.
Here’s what I want you to understand about thin privilege: Your body image struggles are real no matter your size. Your experience and struggles are real and valid. But we have to be willing to look at our privileges in all situations, body image and how this impacts our relationship with food, included.
There are three types of fat phobia, that I’ve learned from Virgie Tovar (click here to listen to her episode on the podcast). A person in a thin body can experience INTRApersonal struggles as we all fear becoming fat in our society that tells us it's the worst thing in the world to happen to our bodies. But a thin body won’t experience interpersonal and institutionalized fat phobia. This helps explain thin privilege in a meaningful way- that yes, your experiences are real, but these are two major areas you likely will never experience or understand if you live in a thin body.
I used to promote myself as the “body positive dietitian” and I now realize how much of a mistake on wording that was. That was taking a movement that wasn’t created for me. And honestly ignorance on my part thinking me as a size 10 was not accepted. I hope this episode helps you see that your experiences are real and true and you are not alone in not accepting your body. Yet, as with any privilege we hold, it’s not your fault or something you should feel guilty about. It’s about recognizing that there’s some experiences we may never be able to understand.
This episode is brought to you by my holiday survival guide. This free e-book will help you enjoy and celebrate the holiday season, food included. Click here to grab yours!
This episode is also brought to you by my love for all things Primally Pure. I’m currently obsessed with the plumping face mask, beauty cream, and body butter. 15 Sep 2020 | 203: Intermittent Fasting and Your Need for Rules | 00:15:47
It’s been a long time since we last had a podcast episode on intermittent fasting and I thought it was due time to an update, review of the research and to have an honest conversation with you about your need for rules.
It’s common and totally okay to have questions about what is intuitive eating aligned and what is not when it comes to health trends, and even nutrition research. Because intuitive eating isn’t anti-health or even anti-nutrition, and...ALSO...Ultimately, this is your body, and your choice, so if you decide intermittent fasting is for you then it’s your choice to make, but I’m hoping I can give you another perspective on this super popular trend.
Let’s first describe what is intermittent fasting. Intermittent Fasting (IF) is a diet regimen that cycles between brief periods of fasting, with either no food or significant calorie reduction, and periods of unrestricted eating.”
In the episode we discuss:

20 Sep 2022 | 390: What Exactly is Diet Culture and How Does it Cause Food Guilt | 00:16:30
Do you constantly feel guilty for what you eat? And does the guilt you feel about food involve concern over how that food is going to impact your body, i.e. will it cause weight gain?
Have you ever thought about WHY you feel guilty about what you eat? In today’s episode we explore the main culprit of food guilt, diet culture, and how it causes food guilt.
Because here’s the truth: Guilt and shame take us away from listening to our bodies. Before we can listen to the body, we need to reject diet mentality, remove the negative emotions and morality involved around food, and take us away from listening to our bodies.
So in order to feel at peace around all foods, and to feel good in your body, you’ve got to work through these beliefs and emotions you have around both food and your body, which is exactly what we do inside Food & Body Peace Playbook.
Food & Body Peace Playbook is a mindset focused program. 5 out of 8 modules are focused on helping you shift to viewing food and your body in a positive manner.
This means the internal chatter will shift into language that is compassionate, caring and trusting in your body and how you care for it. And what this really means? Your mind will be free to focus on the things in life that truly matter!
Spots are filling fast for our group coaching program, Food & Body Peace Playbook. If you want to work towards food and body peace in a community of like-minded people so you can learn and grow together, you’ll want to fill out your application form soon! We are currently at 7/10 spots filled.

03 Dec 2019 | 132: Understanding How to Apply Gentle Nutrition | 00:20:42
If you’ve never heard of the term gentle nutrition before, this is the approach and mindset to applying nutrition in the intuitive eating paradigm. The term gentle nutrition comes from the final of the ten principles of Intuitive Eating, called honor your health with gentle nutrition. Gentle nutrition allows for individuality understanding we all feel different eating different ways, for our own convictions and values, and for our own health needs, too. While its common in the intuitive eating community to avoid the nutrition conversation, this can sometimes lead to more confusion on the subject. I also think understanding nutrition can often help us reject diet mentality and appreciate what food does to us and for us, too.
In this episode I share how we approach the conversation of gentle nutrition with clients, when its appropriate to consider nutrition in your intuitive eating journey and some specific examples of what gentle nutrition looks and feels like. At the end of the day, nutrition is quite simple and is highly individualized and intuitive eating encourages us to explore how we feel when we eat.

15 Oct 2021 | 305: A 30 Day Abstinence Journey from Perfectionism and Exercise Addiction with Lauren Sheehey | 00:46:36
Wow today’s episode is AWE INSPIRING. I am honored to have guest Lauren Sheehey on the podcast today to talk with you about the mask of perfectionism, and her 30 day abstinence journey from perfectionism and exercise. A quick trigger warning: we do discuss trauma and sexual assault in today’s episode.
Lauren Sheehey is a writer, meditation teacher, relentless creative, and most recently a new mom. For years, she worked with clients around the world as a Lifestyle Development Coach; her work focused exclusively on guiding women through their healing, empowerment, and self-actualization with a fully integrated, mind-body approach.
Now, Lauren is translating this work into motherhood and facilitating deep-dive conversations on her podcast, Hungry for More. She has witnessed, first-hand, the power of inviting women to tell, own, and write their stories. She knows that showing up and sharing oneself in a way that is unapologetically real and raw is ultimately the path to revolution.
You can find her writing on her blog, her instagram, and scattered across the internet for professional wellness brands. She has edited books for publishing and advised the copywriting for countless marketing campaigns, but you can find her doing what she loves most on her podcast; writing about the hard, beautiful, messy moments of life and reading them to her community.

29 Jan 2021 | 233: James Rose on the Intersection of Gender Identity and Eating Disorders | 00:47:14
Today’s conversation is one of the most important episodes we have had on the show to date! I had the honor of having James Rose on the podcast to discuss the intersection of gender identity and eating disorders. Body dysmorphia and eating disorders are an extremely prevalent issue within the trans and non-binary community, yet it is so rarely discussed and further perpetuates the stereotype that only white, thin cis-gendered women struggle with eating disorders.
James Rose (they/them) is a non-binary New York City based actor, Health at Every Size Personal Trainer, trauma-informed yoga teacher, and co-host of the Full Soul Nutrition Podcast. They write about gender, eating disorder recovery, sex, their feelings, & their exes on their Instagram (@jamesissmiling) where they hope to leave the internet a little bit better than they found it.

02 Nov 2021 | 310: Have a Missing Period? HA vs PCOS | 00:11:59
There are a variety of reasons secondary amenorrhea (a missing period for 3+ months) can occur, but the two most common reasons are PCOS and hypothalamic amenorrhea (HA).
In today’s podcast, we will walk through the lab work and symptoms of both HA and PCOS, to help you understand the similarities and differences between these two common hormone conditions.
If you have a missing or irregular cycle, I would HIGHLY recommend that you do investigative work, order more lab work with your doctor and talk to them about your symptoms, even consider a DUTCH test, so that you have a plan tailored to you and your needs. These conditions are very different yet have a lot of overlap!
Need help getting your period back? We have a few spots left to work with us for anti-diet, gentle nutrition support for HA and PCOS at our virtual practice. Our online program specifically for HA recovery, Get Your Period Back Playbook, will reopen for enrollment in March 2022.

16 Feb 2021 | 238: Intuitive Eating is Not Anti Weight Loss | 00:11:31
I recently shared this Instagram post: “I’m not anti weight loss. I’m anti the system of beliefs, corporations, businesses, health care providers and influencers telling you the pursuit of thinness should be your highest ambition in life.”
I do not judge you for wanting to lose weight. And I'm not anti weight loss altogether. But if you think this is going to be an episode encouraging you to pursue intentional weight loss and intuitive eating, keep listening...
As hard as it will absolutely be, you have to put aside intentional weight loss to fully be free to rediscover intuitive eating.
One of my favorite quotes from the Intuitive Eating book shares, “If you allow even one small hope to linger that a new and better diet might be lurking around the corner, it will prevent you from being free to rediscover Intuitive Eating.”
When someone tells you that you can practice mindful eating or IE or food freedom and lose weight, and even diet and lose weight (in the long term) they’re promising you something they realistically, and ethically, cannot promise you. Listen to this episode to learn more and learn what will happen to your weight as you practice intuitive eating.

12 Oct 2021 | 304: Beauty Ideals and Body Image | 00:08:33
In this episode, let’s chat about beauty ideals and body image. Because today’s unrealistic standards for what is beauty, and the societal standards we experience, absolutely sets the stage for our own body image beliefs.
I mean how could it not? Sit and think about this: what are the images of women you saw growing up? What did they look like? I know for me it was Barbie dolls and princesses on Disney. What were your mothers or other adult women around you talking about as you grew up? For me, dieting and controlling food and our bodies was just the norm of what conversations among women looked like.
Listen to today’s episode to learn how beauty ideals impact your own body image, and the differences between self expression versus self objectification.
In this episode I reference the books: The Beauty Myth, Invisible Corset and More Than a Body.
Today’s episode is brought to you by our signature program, Food and Body Peace Playbook (FBPP). FBPP is an 8 week online course & group coaching program that will help you build lasting food freedom, better body image & sustainable health habits that stick.
If you're ready to stop dieting forever and make peace with food and your body I’d love to see you as one of the 20 spots inside the program when it opens for January. That means you can start off 2022 making the decision to say NO to diets that don’t work and YES to intuitive eating and a lifetime of treating your body well.

I am so honored to say today on the podcast my guest is a client I’ve worked with Mary Weis. Working with Mary was an absolute joy. She was like many of our clients, working to fully heal her relationship with food and her body. But when we started working together, I immediately noticed how intense her digestion symptoms were.
You’ll hear in this episode how we helped her work with her doctor to get antibiotics to treat SIBO, and we focused on removing the stressors in her life, healing her relationship with food and body and experimenting with different supplements that aid digestion and SIBO recovery.
We also discuss in detail orthorexia, why commenting on weight loss is problematic and the importance of letting go of health as your one and only identity. Listen to learn more and get inspired in your own recovery journey!

Ned produces the highest quality full spectrum CBD oil, extracted from organically grown hemp plants in Colorado. One of the things I love most about Ned is they do not cut corners in their production. Their CBD oil is made from gentle, slow extraction with no high temperatures or high pressure, and zero isolates and synthetic ingredients. If you want to check out Ned and try them out for yourself, Ned is offering 15% off AND free shipping to my listeners by using the link included here in the shownotes or you can use the code NOURISHINGWOMEN to receive the discount.
Thank you to New Chapter for also sponsoring today’s episode. I am fascinated by traditions and the culture of food. Across the globe, for thousands of years, food is connected deeply into how we live, how we take care of ourselves and how we enjoy life. Tradition isn’t about chasing the next “it” food, the swaying nutrition research based on the newest study and it’s not about a one fits all approach for your calorie allotment for the day. And thats why I’m a huge fan of herbalism, and my go to for any herbs I take- New Chapter, including their new daily multiherbals. There are four multiherbal options for you to choose from, one for holistic health, one to power up, one for restful nights and one to de-stress. Take the One Daily Multiherbal Sleep Well if you are ready to promote longer, most restful sleep you can wake up feeling refreshed*. Clinical studied tart cherry can significantly increase sleep time and efficiency and even provides naturally occurring melatonin*. Sleep Well also contains relaxing and soothing herbs that are non-habit forming: passionflower, chamomile and ashwagandha. Or the One Daily Stress Relief formulated with Aswagandha (one of my favorite adaptations to recommend!) to ease physical and mental stress*. It has also been shown to improve well-being and help our bodies respond and react better to stress by lowering cortisol levels*. You can purchase New Chapter multiherbals on New Chapter’s website, CVS and local health food stores. + Consult your healthcare provider before use if you have a medical condition; supplements are not a substitute for medical therapy. *These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. 29 Jun 2021 | 274: What is Thin Privilege? (Repost) | 00:10:51

11 Feb 2020 | 148: Is It Okay to Meal Plan and Food Prep as an Intuitive Eater? | 00:21:25
There are so many misconceptions about intuitive eating, one of the biggest ones is that it’s anti-health and you cannot care about nutrition, health and wellness. The reasons, however, that health and wellness is pursued as an intuitive eater is very different than the diet culture infused versions of health and wellness.
So can you practice meal planning and food prepping as an intuitive eater?
Absolutely!
Important distinction: make sure you are in a healthy place with it first, though. If you are using it to control your food, it would be important to take a break until you can come back to it in a more fluid, healthy way. Think of it like the exercise conversation, just because we ask at times for exercise breaks, for example pausing on exercise until you get your period back if its missing, that doesn’t mean its a forever thing. Just like exercise too, meal planning and food prepping should enhance your life, bring joy or reduce stress, it shouldn’t be about controlling your body, controlling your food or exercise, forcing yourself to do anything. Remember: if not doing a health or wellness habit causes internal stress or anxiety or worry, that’s how you know it’s something to reflect on the why behind it.
I also think it’s critical to be flexible with it, as well as know it’s not for everyone, too. Some people will love it and find it so helpful, and do it all the time. Where other intuitive eaters won’t enjoy or find it helpful at all, and that’s 100% okay too. Intuitive Eating is all about individuality and doing what is best for you.
Here are some Intuitive Eating aligned reasons to meal plan and food prep:

Body Kindness is such a great representation of pursuing intuitive eating and health and wellness for authentic intentions and a positive, self loving mindset. Body Kindness encompasses so many beliefs we have at Nourishing Women Podcast and is a critical part of wellness without obsession. You don’t have to love your body to respect it, but let’s not forget that body respect and body kindness are key components of wellness we are often lacking in our culture that obsesses over the thin ideal.

03 Jul 2020 | 182: Kate Eskuri on Building Foundational Health with Holistic & Realistic Self Care | 00:47:12
Click here to get your hands on my new free mini course, the Summer Reset! In the introduction of today’s episode, I share what I’m learning inside the book, Fearing the Black Body by Sabrina Strings. As I read, I continue to learn how from the time the slave trade began in the 1500’s and as it continued through the 1800’s, the black body was used to justify slavery. White women and men viewed the black body as grotesque, wording depicted from literature quoted in the book from this timeframe. Religion and faith was also used to elevate thinness- believing that the ability to control fatness and control eating was attached with morality. It’s had me reflecting- NO WONDER now in 2020 we have such deeply ingrained beliefs that how we eat and what we look like is attached with superiority and morality. We can see this now ver badum in the health and wellness industry, both the view the controlling your eating makes you superior and that controlling your body weight makes you elevated, or better than. I hope knowing this helps you to pause and think...do you really want to participate in a system that was used as a means to justify oppression and slavery? Now, to today’s episode! Today on the podcast we have guest Kate Eskuri. When I found Kate it was like finding a long lost like minded sister in this world of holistic health and well being! Kate is a registered nurse, going back to school to get her doctorate in integrative health. She believes in traditional practices backed by modern research, which is totally up my alley. In this episode, you’ll hear us geek out on our love for blending Eastern and Western philosophies, how to be less black and white about your health and wellness rituals and what it means to practice holistic and realistic self care. Kate is the author and founder of the Foundation blog and I know if you enjoy today’s episode you’ll love learning from her blog and following her on Instagram. In this episode we discuss:

11 Aug 2020 | 193: Instead of Body Love, Try Body Respect | 00:18:39
I’ve been shifting more of my body image content lately to help you focus first on body respect. Because before anything else, you need to respect yourself and your body, first.
When you immerse yourself in the intuitive eating/non-diet world it can be common to feel as if you need to immediately love your body and feel positive about it at all times. And then you feel shame if that’s not your reality.
But we live in a world where thinness is idolized, so it makes sense that it's not as easy as it seems. It’s also way less about saying “I love my body” and more about how you treat it.
I hope you walk away from this episode knowing that body love doesn’t even have to be the end goal. But if it is for you, it may be challenging due to cultural conditioning and fat phobia. Be compassionate and patient with yourself as you learn this new skill!
Positive body image is less about what your body looks like, and more about developing self esteem and self worth that is not dependent on what your body looks like, and more about body respect, meaning you treat your body with respect no matter what it looks like.
Because you don’t have to love your body to respect it! And you don’t have to constantly micromanage your body to take care of it. You can learn to trust your body, and come home to your body. You can take care of yourself, because you deserve to, no matter the size or shape of your body or health status.
Listen to today’s episode to learn more and walk away with my 5 tips to practice body respect starting today and everyday going forward.

12 May 2020 | 173: What Will Happen to My Weight When I Stop Dieting? | 00:15:15
As we have been hosting our free workshops, Food Obsession to Food Flexibility, one of the #1 questions you’ve had for me is...well, what will happen to my weight?
And that fear is ultimately because you’re worried not only about your own fears, but also what people will think about your body changing...Statements like these and the *potential* thoughts and opinions of others really worry you.
But, here's the thing...This is your life. Your body. Your food liberation journey.
Your job in your life is not to spend it worrying about what others think or believe. Nor is to meant to be spent pleasing others, your job is to live your life how you desire.
Instead of viewing it as letting yourself go...could you consider letting yourself be?
Part of letting yourself be is going to be to stop micromanaging your body. To treat it with dignity, respect compassion and kindness. Can you imagine what that would feel like?
I know the anxiety about POTENTIALLY even gaining weight is crippling. Listen to today’s episode to learn my thoughts on how to help you work through this!
This episode is brought to you by my new online course, Permission Stage Playbook.

16 Aug 2022 | 384: Opening Up To Your Partner About Your Food & Body Struggles with Client Lauren and Emilie Hebert RD/N | 00:42:24
One of the hardest things about choosing food and body peace is admitting to yourself that you are struggling. Even harder? Telling those in your life that you love about those struggles!
Today’s episode is one of hopefully many to come, where dietitian at my practice, Emilie Hebert, interviews one of her clients on their experience working with Emilie. Lauren was gracious enough to agree to come on the show, and I cannot thank her enough for doing so!
My hope is that this episode gives you light where there is currently darkness. That you see that choosing peace is worth it, even if it feels scary as hell initially to do so. Lauren shares her process of admitting to herself that she struggled, sharing this with her partner, and why she chose to seek help even though at times she didn’t feel ‘sick enough’ to do so. Listen to this incredible story to learn more!

26 Jan 2021 | 232: 2020 Reflections + 2021 Intentions | 00:19:03
I think we are ALL in agreement that we are so glad 2020 is over. Wow, what a year. In this episode I’ll give you my honest and raw reflections on 2020, and how I want to show up for myself, my family and my business in 2021.
2020 was a weird year for me. In so many ways I felt stuck inside (literally and figuratively), in my head. Questioning my choices. Numbing more than I am used to, particularly with social media and watching just about every show on Netflix and re-watching the Office and Parks and Rec too many times to count. And I also had a good year in many ways, too. All the questioning and digging with myself about who I was and what my business stood for, finally paid off when I began to feel more CLEAR on who/what I am/do more than ever.
I think this year would have felt much, much shitter had I not consistently be experiencing such gratitude. Listen to today’s episode to learn what I felt so grateful for, how I feel going into 2021 and my word for 2021. I’m excited to be open and honest with you about myself and my life in this episode, be sure to come over to Instagram and tell me what resonated with you!

15 May 2020 | 174: Intuitive Eating is NOT Anti-Health | 00:17:54
In our current world, the diet culture infused health and wellness one- we are told the only ways to obtain health are to: have a very specific body size, eat this not that and exercise as much as possible.
And when you hear about intuitive eating...
You fear that vegetables and all the foods you force yourself to eat to maintain your "healthy identity" will become foods you never eat again. In fact all your behaviors you’re scared you’ll never do again.
And if that's a fear of yours, that may mean you've made the mistake of thinking intuitive eating is just eating "whatever you want". Or only ever eating ice cream. Or never exercising again. It’s another version of all or nothing thinking.
Intuitive eating is about promoting health and eating ALL foods (that feel medically or ethically best for you).
You need to learn to live life in the gray area, and discover what health really means to you. Health shouldn't be about black and white thinking, nor is it the small little actions but instead the sum of all your behaviors over your entire life span.
Listen to today’s podcast episode to hear my take on the many reasons intuitive eating is NOT anti-health.
This episode is brought to you by my new online course, Permission Stage Playbook.
You know in order to embrace intuitive eating, you’re gonna have to end the fight between you and your body, make peace with food and give yourself unconditional permission to eat.
But that’s also what makes this work incredibly challenging, overwhelming and frustrating! That’s why my team and I have created our first ever online course, Permission Stage Playbook.
Permission Stage Playbook is a proven step-by-step guide for how to move past the confusion and overwhelm to become an intuitive eater.
Permission Stage Playbook is the ONLY program of its kind that:
The cart is officially open and we would love to have you join our VIP experience, where you will receive the online course material AND group coaching calls with me, a private Facebook support group, support from the entire team at my practice AND (if it could get better than that…) bonus content on exercise and nutrition in the final week of the course.
The cart is open for a limited time only (it closes next Tuesday!) and we are only taking a limited number of students inside the VIP experience of Permission Stage Playbook.
I hope to see you inside the course!

But what’s so amazing is that New Chapter has also formulated a multiherbal for you, think of these as your multivitamin soul mates to add targeted herbal support. There are four multiherbal options for you to choose from, one for holistic health, one to power up, one for restful nights and one to de-stress. Take One Daily Multiherbal Holistic, made with black seed, turmeric and ginger.Clinically studied Black Seed has been shown to support healthy cognitive function and memory while relieving occasional stress and anxiety to uplift mood.* For heart and whole-body wellness, Ginger and Turmeric support healthy inflammation response and cardiovascular health.* Or the Only Daily Multiherbal Energy Boost, made to increase energy and stamina. This multiherbal blend is caffeine-free and made with Eleuthero to invigorate the body and enhance energy and endurance even during times of high stress. It also contains my two of my favorite adaptogens, Rhodiola and Maca to support strengthening the body’s natural response to stress and fatigue. I’m personally excited to continue taking my postnatal vitamin and add these two multiherbals into my supplement protocol, as I could definitely benefit from both right now! You can purchase New Chapter multiherbals on New Chapter’s website, Whole Foods, CVS, Amazon and local health food stores. Thank you so much for sponsoring today’s episode NC!

21 Mar 2023 | 417: Making Atomic Habits Anti-Diet | 00:27:07
There’s a 9 out of 10 chance you’ve heard of the book, Atomic Habits. It’s a NYT bestseller. And there's a good reason for that! I really love this idea of breaking down habits into small, incremental steps so they actually become habitual.
Yet as is true for most things, the weight centric approach is all over the book. Why is it that all self help books use weight loss as their example for how to change with EVERYTHING?
It’s so frustrating! I wish the world could see that we can work on forming habits and improving our health without fixating on weight or appearance. Unfortunately we’re just not there yet as a society. But that’s what we’re working towards in the anti-diet world!
Since I think there’s actually good insight from the book to glean, but I know it could be so triggering for many of you, I’m recording this episode to help you get all the juicy details out of the book, and applying it to your anti-diet health journey.
Listen to today’s episode to learn how to make the book Atomic Habits anti-diet and support your health journey, without being triggered by the book’s rampant weight loss examples.
Grab our free guide, the Hunger Fullness Scale, for a limited time only by clicking here.
Right now, we are currently booking March and April spots for private coaching! Private coaching is the highest level of care we offer at Nourishing Minds Nutrition, and is certainly the fastest way to reach your goals of food and body peace, leaving food (and wellness) obsession behind in 2023.

11 Oct 2019 | 117: Adaptogens 101 and How to Use Them | 00:32:43
Adaptogens are all the rage right now, and this is one of the few health trends that I’m here for! Adaptogens are naturally occurring, nontoxic plant substances such as herbs, roots, spices and even mushrooms that have been used traditionally by Aruvedya (the sister science to yoga and 5,000 year old practice of medicine in India), Chinese medicine, and in Northern European countries for thousands of years. While common in Eastern medicine and application, they are picking up in the West and we are going to explore in today’s podcast episode what constitutes a plant as an adaptogen, what they provide and do for the body, research surrounding them, why you may want to consider them for stress and hormone support and some of my favorite specific types of adaptogens.
At the end of the day, adaptogens should be used in a fun, curious way to see if they benefit you and to consider as part of your wellness routine and/or healing protocol. They are not mandatory to pursue health, but if you notice a difference taking them, can be supportive to take to combat everyday stressors.

This episode is brought to you by New Chapter. As a women’s health dietitian and educator, I have been on the search for my official recommendation for a prenatal vitamin for quite some time, and I am thrilled to say I finally found the one, and actually a prenatal AND postnatal vitamin- that checks all my boxes.
What’s so cool about New Chapter’s perfect prenatal vitamin is that it is fermented for better absorption with beneficial probiotics and whole foods, which also makes it easy to digest and gentle on the stomach- which if you’ve ever taken a prenatal vitamin you know that’s not always the case. Plus their new improved formula contains ginger to help combat morning sickness. It contains all the key nutrients your body needs for a growing baby, including methylfolate- which is the active form of folate I personally always recommend to my clients when they are looking for a prenatal*.
And they also have a Perfect postnatal vitamin, which is what I am personally taking now. Its formulated specifically for new moms and our needs, to help us replenish nutrient stores from having a baby meaning its going to contain key nutrients like iodine, vitamin D, fermented iron as well as fermented B vitamins to support energy needs. What I think is so helpful is that it also contains herbs and plants that have been used traditionally for lactation like oats, kelp, chamomile and turmeric*.
As with all New Chapter supplements and products, these prenatal and postnatal vitamins are nonGMO certified, made with organic whole foods and herbs and responsibly sourced. I mean I could it get any better, I don’t think so!
You can purchase New Chapter prenatal and postnatal vitamins on New Chapter’s website, Whole Foods, CVS, Amazon and local health food stores. Thank you so much for sponsoring today’s episode New Chapter!

28 May 2021 | 266: Let that Sh*t Go to Calm the Mind with Nina Purewal | 00:34:20
Mindfulness has been a buzzword for the past few years and the number of people practicing in the US has tripled in the past decade, but so many don’t know the real principles behind it. It’s more than simply calming the mind, it involves self-love, forgiveness, compassion, authenticity, and perspective.
After climbing the corporate ladder for nearly a decade, Nina left her flourishing career to take a year sabbatical. She moved to California to unplug and continue her pursuit for happiness while living in an ashram. It was at a peak point of stress sparked by the corporate grind that she took this drastic step to change her life. The outward move allowed Nina to look deeper inward. She wanted to see if there was a way to take ancient wisdom and apply it to modern day stressors and this lead her to an international bestselling book and the founding of Pure Minds.
She runs mindfulness and meditation workshops for the public and corporate sector and in this episode, Nina gives us realistic and approachable tools to begin to let that sh*t go and calm our minds.

10 Oct 2023 | 444: Change Your Mindset, Change Your Habits, Change Your Life | 00:13:05
Change your mindset, change your habits, change your LIFE. Because our thoughts impact our actions. What you think will directly impact how you treat yourself. And if those thoughts are negative? Your health will be negatively impacted, too. If your mindset is that you're not enough, one where you are overly critical and harsh with yourself, imagine how this impacts you... It makes you end up neglecting or obsessing over your health. A life where you're going on diet after diet after diet, thinking there is something wrong with you. But inevitably, the diet fails and you feel like a failure, too. This is why you end up binge eating the peanut butter jar at night and eating all the kids' snacks when they go to bed at night. Or going on diet after diet after diet, because you too think something is wrong with you, leads you to absolute obsession. All you do is think about food and your body. It's 99% of the thoughts you have. You cannot even enjoy your life because food is all you ever think about. I know you want to feel good, to be healthy, but you don’t know how to eat and live without dieting. It’s all you’ve ever known. This mindset is all you've ever known. Imagine if we could change your mindset. A mindset is defined as a set of attitudes. So imagine if your set of attitudes was of peace, of acceptance and of trust in yourself. This is why inside Food & Body Peace Playbook, we provide you a playbook, a set of guidelines to follow, to change both your mindset and health habits. In this 8 week online course, we will change your mindset to change your habits so that you can change your life. With the tools and support provided in this online course, you’ll be able to live a healthy lifestyle that works with your body, not against it. And what this means to you? You’ll be forever free from dieting. And I'm so excited to announce that Food & Body Peace Playbook is OFFICIALLY OPEN FOR ENROLLMENT! You're a perfect fit for the program if you're ready to go *all in* to see the way you think and treat yourself change. You're ready for a new mindset that allows you to add more healthy habits in your life because you want to feel good. And you're especially a great fit if you're ready for a truly healthy lifestyle, a lifestyle AND food & body relationship, that you'd feel proud to pass on to your children. This episode is a super special one. I invite my past client, Maddy, on the show to share her personal journey to freedom in food and life. In this episode, Maddy shares her relationship with food growing up, when being the “healthy one” became her identity, realizing she had a problem- orthorexia, and seeking help to recover with a therapist and working with me at Nourishing Minds Nutrition.
Maddy shares what it was like to heal her disordered eating and get her period back, where she is at now and some amazing takeaways she has from her personal journey.
Maddy is a wonderful example of someone who was dedicated to her healing and becoming an intuitive eater, and recognizing when it was time to ask for assistance in that process. I so appreciate her vulnerability and honesty in sharing her story in hopes of helping others, and I am so grateful to have been a part of it!

17 Nov 2020 | 218: REPOST Honoring Your Hunger and Fullness Cues | 00:24:14
In today’s episode I am reposting one of our favorite Tuesday podcast episodes all about honoring your hunger and fullness. One of the most common complaints I hear from my listeners, online course students and clients is annoyance with your hunger and your body’s cues to eat. I want to encourage you to begin questioning why you feel that way.
Why is it that we find a body’s signal to us annoying? Desire to question it? Or straight up don’t listen to it? Diet culture is the culprit!
Honoring hunger isn’t “giving in”, it’s body respect! It’s self care! It’s listening to your body and one of the first steps to that mind body connection.
In this episode, we will review the hunger and fullness scale and primal hunger to build that mind body knowledge for intuitive eating.
Because it’s so important to listen to your body’s cues! When primal hunger sets in, this is our body’s survival mechanisms taking over. While it can be frustrating to not feel well, remember this is your body loving and protecting you. This is not a loss of willpower, its biology.
We want to avoid getting to the point of primal hunger if we can, because it doesn’t make you feel good physically and mentally and can often lead to what feels like over eating and binge eating. In this episode I’ll also review with you avoiding common pitfalls with intuitive eating, including turning the hunger fullness scale into a diet.
22 Mar 2022 | 346: When it Comes to Nutrition Be Gentle in Mindset, Flexible in Action | 00:10:44
I know for so many of you podcast listeners, your relationship with nutrition is controlling. And it's absolute in thinking, like "I HAVE to eat (fill in the blank) amount of vegetables per day" or "I can only eat carbs at one meal a day" or "I can only eat sweets on the weekend."
Or maybe for you it's that nutrition reminds you SO much of your days of dieting that you have completely avoided nutrition because it reminds you too much of restrictions and rules.
And in order to make gentle in mindset, flexible in action part of how you approach nutrition, I'm hosting the Gentle Nutrition Masterclass on Wednesday, March 23rd at 7pm EST (recording available if you cannot attend live)!
You can click here to learn more and grab your seat!
In this masterclass you'll learn how to shift your mindset around nutrition, what flexible in action actually looks like, and specific gentle nutrition practices you can apply in your everyday life.
My goal is to remove the confusion around the final principle of intuitive eating, gentle nutrition, and help you gain clarity on what gentle nutrition is all about. Hope to see you there!

06 Dec 2019 | 133: The Benefits of Adding Essential Oils in Your Life with Becca Bristow RD/N | 00:59:19
Y’all I am so excited about today’s episode! I started following Becca Bristow about a year ago when we connected on the conversation of Intuitive Eating, and have become RD-online-friends and feel so honored to say that! Becca came on the show today to share about her business, being a mother, her passion for intuitive eating and we also spend a ton of time chatting the benefits of essential oils. Becca is a wonderful educator on how to use essential oils, and if you’ve been wondering why you should add essential oils to your wellness journey and how to do so, this conversation is for you!
If you don’t know Becca, she is a Registered Dietitian, wife, dog lover, content creator, DIY fiend, oily lady, and homebody. She is the content creator of the popular You Tube channel under her name, Becca Bristow, and a very inspiring entrepreneur and dietitian. One of my favorite things about Becca is how she shares tips, education and inspiration in a very laid back, easy to digest way. Conversations on health and nutrition and even essential oils can become so complicated so quickly, and she does such a good job of truly helping you understand and digest these complex conversations- which to me is a true sign of someone who knows their stuff.

05 Aug 2020 | BONUS: New Free Workshop on Why Diets Don't Work (And What to Do Instead) | 00:05:11
This month, the podcast will hit our three year anniversary. And for THREE YEARS now share my adoration for intuitive eating...and it all started from a realization years ago, that diets don’t work. I saw it in my personal life after a 10 year battle of on and off again diets and developing orthorexia as a result. I saw it in my clients. In my friends and family members and co-workers. I saw it in the research, too. And a shift as a wave of dietitians decided to so loudly claim that diets don’t work that a large sector of the RD population now, myself included, call ourselves non-diet or anti-diet dietitians to dissociate ourselves from dieting.
Why? Because...Diets don’t work. And I want to dive into this deeper with you, which is why I’m hosting my next free workshop, called Why Diets Don’t Work (and What to Do Instead).
And yes...your clean eating regimen counts as a diet and you’ll learn why that is in the workshop.
This workshop is for you IF:
The workshop will cover the science of why diets don’t work, what to do instead and understanding what exactly intuitive eating is (and is not). I’ll help you understand the physical and mental health benefits of intuitive eating and why it builds sustainable, long term health habits that stick. Because i know you want to know, if you are going to stop dieting- you need to know what you’ll be doing instead.
Plus, I’ll review with you the 4 P’s of the permission stage of intuitive eating. That way you can from food obsession to food flexibility. So you can make peace with not only food, but with your body and finally stop micromanaging it. That way you can learn to practice wellness without obsession. And so that this year, even amongst the craziness that is 2020, you reach your goals and become an intuitive eater. Once and for all. Because one of the many amazing things about intuitive eating? You’ll never have to diet again. How cool is that?
And, if you are interested in joining my online course, Permission Stage Playbook, you’ll see if you’re a good fit for the program &I’ll be sharing a special offer only workshop attendees will receive.
I’m hosting three available workshop times: Wednesday August 12th at 11am EST Thursday August 13th at 6:30pm EST Saturday August 15th at 10am EST
