The trio tackles a "zombie" movie from the turn of this Century.

Let's all head to 2002 UK for 28 Days Later, a movie starring Cillian Murphy as he tries to survive in a virus-ridden London, beset by enraged infected people. This is not about Sandra Bullock going to rehab, nor is it in the same universe, and honestly. We have been robbed of that possibility.

16 Nov 2020It Chapter One01:56:25

This Podcast contains spoilers!! And, As a bonus trigger warning just for those eagle eyed listeners who read these notes, THERE are some discussions about sexual assault in this episode. So. You are warned. There is also an audio clue for you to prep yourself. So, you go in as armed as you can be. On to the show notes!

The Nothing to Fear Team headed to Maine in the 80s to check out some weird happenings in the small town of Derry. There we met this random group of kids who were, to varying degrees, adorable and annoying and then watch them get harassed by a spooky clown. Then we talk about it!

29 Jul 2024Twilight: Eclipse01:55:23

In keeping with our discussion of the Twilight franchise, we decided to recast Billie for the third full episode. All of her lines have been re-recorded by Bryce Dallas Howard.

Just kidding. Billie is irreplaceable. Justice for Rachelle LeFevre.

We finally get the conclusion of the Victoria plot line in this movie and our hosts discuss how the vampire powers work, we learn the worst thing ever about Jasper (iykyk), and discuss what if Jacob and Edward just got together. Honestly. It would be much better for everyone.

14 Apr 2024Funny Games01:16:50

Turns out the title hints to the games being a lot less funny than we thought.

Love a good media consumption metaphor from the 90s!

07 Jun 2021Night of the Living Dead01:44:56

This episode contains spoilers for the movie we are talking about.

Join us, Feardos, as we head back to 1968 to talk about the Grandpappy of all zombie movies with George A. Romero's Night of the Living Dead.

How many comparisons to early technology can Alex make? Will there be any Star Wars references? Will Alex's cat, Miroki, make an appearance (yes for sure). For all the answers to these questions and more, enjoy the episode.

01 Jul 2024M3GAN01:50:34

This movie asks the question, "Wait. Is relying on technology to do most of the things for you, a bad thing?"

We're talking about M3GAN this week, after Alex heard me rave about it back during its theatrical run in 2023.

Join us as we dip into the Psychology Corner, chat about artificial intelligence, and even touch on something called the Green Light Fallacy.

Honestly, that last one sounds like a mid tier ska band.

Enjoy the episode, everyone!

Extra disclaimer here: This movie has a pretty substantial twist and we recommend watching it before listening because we can’t talk about the movie without spoiling it. The time code is clearly marked so consider this your warning of spoilers ahead.

03 May 2021His House01:56:47

This podcast contains spoilers! And this is a 2020 film so consider your self warned.

Don't worry. Nothing was stolen from an Apeth in order to record this episode. So we're all good on that front. This is an interesting one for us here at NtF. Billed as a horror movie, we ask and try to answer the question, "Did this story NEED to be a horror movie?" You'll have to listen to find out. This movie deals with a lot of heavy topics around immigration, refugees, loss and PTSD so it may be on the heavier side, content wise. It's a clever take on a horror movie to mix it in with the trauma of fleeing war torn regions of the world and settling in a land that seems hostile and confusing in different and unexpected ways. We hope that you enjoy!

15 Nov 2021Ouija - Origin of Evil01:48:45

This episode contains spoilers for the movie we are discussing! And also for Ouija, a much worse movie we didn't see.

Our listeners suggested we watch a movie that is a sequel (prequel) to a movie that we hadn't watched and we've never bowed down from a challenge yet! So we watched Ouija - The origin of Evil from the spooky mind of Mike Flanagan. Join us in the swinging 60s as we talk about demons (again), why they're doing what they do (again) and what board games Betty would have rather played. It's been a minute since we got legit scared and hey, this one does it. Tune in now.

What a fun summer, y'all! Hiking, Camp fires, Hot tubs, scary stories, a demon you accidentally summon while "singing" his name, a visit to the mines, and the kind of drinking only possible in your 20s. 20 Sep 2021Quarantine01:39:21

This, especially nice, episode contains spoilers for the movie we are discussing!

We're covering remakes and reboots this month and today we're looking at that particular sub-sub-sub-genre of non-english language films being remade in English. This week we're giving Quarantine a look. After enjoying the film Rec (episode 15 for those of you who wanna check it out), we're finally getting around to the American remake. They may have thrown 10 million more dollars at the budget but how does the film stack up. Listen along as we tell you.

Brief trigger warning at around the 00:56:27-01:00:40 we talk a bit about cults and the talk of ritualized suicide comes up.

25 Apr 2022The Shining (EPISODE 100!!!)01:45:07

This episode contains spoilers for the movie we are discussing!

I can hardly believe we're at the 100th episode of Nothing to Fear. Such a fun ride so far! Thanks to all who've come along for the journey!
To mark this historic moment in podding history we're watching a cornerstone, nay. A pillar in the horror world with 1980's The Shining. Kubrickian film making at its finest and just about as long as the entire winter would have been.
So bring you bags into Room 237, stop at the pantry for a couple of snacks and join us in the Gold Room as we talk all about it. Please. Leave your axes at the door though. You understand.

21 Nov 2022Annabelle Comes Home01:43:40

This episode contains spoilers for the movie we are discussing! Also Luke's audio is weird for some of the episode. I think I messed up the settings during the edit. Sorry, folks! Enjoy it anyway.

Here we go. We're wrapping up a film series with Annabelle Comes Home and we're delighted to be joined by the Warren's in this one! Will they take the crown for worst parent's in a movie? Will Billie make a lot of references for future movies in the imagined extended universe of these films? Will they go on tangents about stuff that isn't the movie?

You know the answer is yes but you should still listen to the show.

14 Dec 2020Ring01:32:40

THIS PODCAST CONTAINS SPOILERS.

Take a trip to the Izu Peninsula in Japan with the Nothing to Fear squad! We are talking all about 1998's J-Horror classic, Ring. We ask if you would chant Bloody Mary in the mirror, debate the likelihood of the spirit world and how it can impact on our lives and gently remind Luke that Master Chief isn't going to be in this one until we realize that Sadako was just creating the world's first chain letter. Enjoy!

This Podcast Contains Spoilers for the movie we are discussing.

The NtF crew is diving back into the spooky scary haunted realms this week as we discuss 2013's The Conjuring. Patrick Wilson returns as a guy who's name Billie can't remember and we must have completed some sort of ritual because Luke's landlord was conjured during the recording leaving Alex and Billie to their own devices.

On today's episode we are joined, for the first time on a regular episode, by some very special guests! Robin Zlotnick and Tuyet Nguyen host the fabulous Bunk 237 AAH! Horror Movie Podcast and I just knew we had to all chat together about a summer camp based horror movie for the kick off to our Summer movie month. We picked, appropriately enough, a film called...Summer Camp. This Spanish Horror film from 2015 takes a rage inducing virus and adds a twist that works real well on paper. How does it translate to screen? You'll have to listen to find out!

27 Jun 2022Jaws01:37:53

This episode contains spoilers for the movie we are discussing!

We finish off our Summer time fun time month with a movie that is arguably not really that much of a horror movie. Billie thinks so, Alex doesn't and Luke can see both sides. We took a little trip down to Montau---er Amity Island, to talk all about 1975's Jaws. What do you think? Is Jaws a horror movie or is it just a thriller with a big ole shark?

11 Jul 2022The Fly01:14:09

This episode contains spoilers for the movie we are discussing!

We get into the Goldblum of it all with 1986's The Fly. How is this part of Canadian month? Well the director David Cronenberg was born in the centre of the universe, Toronto Ontario. Also the movie was filmed there. Anyway join us for one of the grubbiest and grossest films we've done in a good long while. And check out below if you'd like to donate to some abortion funds in your area. We don't get political on the pod because we want to be a fun, silly, respite from the world, but staying silent is complacence. Access to safe abortion should be a right for anyone who needs one. We stand by the person's right to choose and are absolutely uninterested in debating that point.

05 Aug 2024The Twilight Saga - Breaking Dawn: Part 101:37:57

Folks! Grab your recently married spouses and head off to a privately owned island in Brazil because we're talking about the most horrifying movie in the Twilight Saga to date.

Not this movie touting the virtues of waiting until marriage to have sex, only to show the more horrific consequence of it. Sorry, Bella. You deserved better.

But at least we know Kristen Stewart is a wonderful queer icon nowadays. (unless she does something to get herself cancelled and then we never liked her in the first place, phew. I sure am glad no one reads the show notes.)

Anyway. Join us for this 2011 hit and see if comic book movies had ANY impact on the way this film was put together. (spoiler alert. It did).

25 Jul 2022Grave Encounters01:30:24

This episode contains spoilers for the movie we are discussing!

We are closing out our Canadian Horror month with a 2011 found footage entry called Graved Encounters. It combines all the spookiness of an asylum with all the creepiness of an abandoned building and then adds rats in for good measure. Check out the stunning building of Coquitlam BC, posing as somewhere in Maryland. Gotta love it.

12 Oct 2020Halloween 201:19:21

There are spoilers in this episode!!!

Spooky Halloween season continues, friends with our mini-series on the Halloween movie franchise. To keep ourselves from getting confused we picked the first of the direct sequels as we join Michael Myers on that same Halloween night in... 1979? No, 1978 as he goes along his merry way stabbing and murdering and being inexplicably invisible to the citizens of Haddonfield Illinois. Listen now to find out what WE thought of the movie and tell us what YOU think. Send us a DM on Instagram @nothingtofearpodcast, a tweet @nothingtofearp1 or an email at nothingtofearpodcast@gmail.com or send ME a DM over there on the Instas @billie_by_design. We love hearing from you.

Thanks to Alex for the theme music as always. Ya nailed it again. Do you know he plays it live every time?

Thank you so much to Katie Rogers @put_thatdown for all your great work designing the logo and helping me with merch!

27 Feb 2023Evil Dead (2013)00:49:57

This episode contains spoilers for the movie we are discussing!

We wrap up our revisitation month with a look back at one of our earliest franchises ever tackled on NtF. Back in the days where I thought we could watch all of the entries of a film’s franchise as we go through the seasons of the show. Man am I glad they talked me out of that path. Anyway. Here’s the reboot of Evil Dead from 2013. Deadites, and Necronomica, and unlikeable characters, oh my. This one holds the new record for shortest episode we've done. What a prestigious honour. Also there's no movie news because I'm in Colorado when this comes out and we couldn't record the intro at the usual Sunday morning time. Enjoy the spare time in your day! Tell us what you're going to do with it all. Is anyone reading this anymore? Tell you what. If you ARE reading these words send us a DM on Instagram. The first 3 people who DM us with "I read the thing!" will get a sticker. Love you mean it!

This Episode Title contains spoilers.

Pretty much know what you're getting with a title like the Return of Michael Myers but the NtF gang travels back to Haddonfield Illinois 10 years after the events of the first, excuse me, the first TWO Halloween movies to learn about just why Mikey boy wants to do more murders. There's sneakin around, limping about and shouting exposition and gun-toting gangs of vigilantes in this one, folks. Buckle up, maybe check under the car for Michael and join us.

This episode contains spoilers for the movie we are discussing!

O Canada. You may always be used as a tax haven for movie studios but what about the films that are Canadian? We're going into some Canuck Horror flicks for this month and see what our film industry is all aboat. The links may be tenuous to the Great White North but rest assured they're all as Canadian as having a poutine after a ball hockey game while wearing your favourite toque.
We're starting off with 1997's Cube! A precursor to Saw and escape room horror movies but stocked with more Murdoch Mysteries background actors than you can shake a box of timbits at. Enjoy it, ya hosers!

This week we are trying to get caught up in time to watch the new Scream movie as it releases. (Yes, I know this is ten days after the movie comes out. We like to strike while the iron is pretty cold around here). Kicking off a mini scream-a-thon, we started making a bonus episode to talk about Scream 2 and 3 and it turned into its own beast. Our long road trip month finally comes to a close. We had a lot of fun but, like all road trips, I suspect some of us are glad it's over. Rounding out this month is 2000's Final Destination. What does it mean when you escape death's plan for you? Well in this movie it means a lot of whacky as hell Rube Goldberg machines that result in people's deaths. JOIN us as we talk all about it!

We kick off Haunted House Month with a look at the OG Spooky haunted house movie/ story about an alleged haunting by an allegedly, less than scrupulous fellow that made him some money. It's the Amityville Horror. Curl up into your lil pizza slice window nooks, brush some of the flies off the walls and pop in your noise cancelling headphones (so you won't hear the house tell you to get out) and enjoy! And check out the episodes of You're Wrong About and The Faculty of Horror to hear what Billie was half assedly trying to talk about. These people do it so much better than she does.

The NtF crew was on their way back from a deep space mining expedition when we were awoken from our hibernation when we picked up a signal repeating every twelve seconds. This episode contains spoilers for the movie we are about to discuss.

It may strike you as odd but if someone knocks on your door at four in the morning asking for someone who doesn't live there, I think it would be just fine to pretend you weren't home. And maybe call someone at that point.

But then we wouldn't have 2008's The Strangers. Billie and the Boys discuss this movie, talk about the unexplainable nature of a truly random act of violence and investigate our own biases.

This Podcast contains Spoilers!

This week, on Nothing to Fear, the crew takes a look into the 2015 directorial debut of Robert Eggers with The VVitch. Join us as we discuss this tense, creepy slice of life movie set in 1600s New England. You may ask yourself, are we going to speak in period accents the whole time? Well, List well all ye, verily we speakst true and pure. Ugh. No way. We are not that committed to a bit. However we do talk about Children's educator Mr Slim Goodbody for way longer than I ever thought we would. So there's that.

Happy New Year, Feardos! Thanks for sticking with us through 2021 and as we get started with 2022! We have a lot of fun stuff planned for this year including our fast approaching 100th episode. 12 Aug 2024The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 201:32:54

Oh my gosh, folks. We did it. We got to the end. *Aro laugh inserted* We have made it through the entire Twilight Saga.

2012 certainly was a time to make movies look like an Avengers film.

I'm glad you took this ride with me. I hope you enjoyed it. I hope you had as much fun as I did. As we mentioned in the show, if there are some other sagas you think the three of us should tackle or if you think Alex and Luke should have had to watch these movies or we should do some other fun films, let us know online and let us know who you think should be the reigning monarch of Team: Somebody else.

09 Nov 2021Bonus Guest appearance on "Here for the Boos"01:18:11

Hello, dear listeners! Here is a little treat for your pod feed by way of a bonus episode. Billie was recently a guest on the "Here For the Boos" podcast and she had a lovely conversation with Jax all about learning to love horror movies and being excited to dive deeper into the genre. It was a fun chance to be on another podcast and Jax was so kind to send over the mp3 to put in the NtF lineup. Give it a listen and then head on over to Here for the Boos for some more spooky scary content and see just why so many people are into horror.

Hope you enjoy!

18 Apr 2022Europa Report01:35:55

This episode contains spoilers for the movie we are discussing!

Arguably the word "horror" missing from the movie synopsis should have tipped us off but we find many horrifying things to talk about in the episode! Let's round out our trips to meet cosmic horror with 2013's Europa Report. What will humans be like on an extended mission to parts of our solar system? Is there anywhere else where life exists? Why did Dan forget his toothbrush? All these questions and more on this week's episode. Plus. Don't forget to listen to the Something to Cheer section to see the level of office prank that Billie enjoys the most.

Australian horror is here to stay and the folks behind this tense and spooky flick are sure to go places if they keep churning out this kind of content.

Friends, get yourself a candle. Get yourself a group of Gen Z kids to peer pressure you into interacting with this haunted object and watch Talk to Me right this instant!

Also. Happy Birthday, Danica. Thanks for listening.

21 Sep 2020The Texas Chain Saw Massacre01:28:21

This Podcast contains spoilers!

In this week's horror outing, Billie, Luke and Alex take a trip to rural Texas, taking in the sights, talking to the locals, visiting unique furniture craftsmen and sampling the local cuisine with Leatherface as our guide. Sure he's a bit free with the chain sawing and he's not much for words but there's nothing like seeing a place with a local as your tour guide. (end sarcasm)

We're talking all about the first Texas Chain Saw Massacre this week! Tobe Hooper directs a chilling film that leaves the group confused, spooked and thoroughly entertained. Here's hoping this podcast does the trick as well.

If you're loving the show please let us know by giving us a 5-star review over on Apple Podcasts or liking or subscribing to the podcast wherever you end up listening. We do enjoy hearing from you all. Follow the show on instagram @nothingtofearpodcast or send us a tweet @nothintofearp1.
