Sleepaway Camp (also marketed on VHS as Nightmare Vacation) is a 1983 slasher film written and directed by Robert Hiltzik who also served as executive producer. The film is about the killings of teen campers at a summer camp. The film came at a time when slasher films were in their heyday, and is largely known for its twist ending which is considered by some to be one of the most shocking endings among horror films. Repeat. and their self-titled debut), the origins of the 00s piracy crackdown and hate for Metallica/Lars (but he wasn't wrong), nu metal (again), discovering new musical tastes (death metal, Meshuggah, etc), burning mixes with Nero and wisely filling time on the discs, the high-cost of buying new albums (which may have justified the downloading, only to preview the album before you actually bought them), and why do we still remember the lyrics to Kid Rock's "Bawitdaba"? "I'm afraid I'm going to have to ask you to leave" . . . Paul Donovan's 1983 action-thriller SIEGE--aka SELF DEFENSE, aka NIGHT WARRIORS, aka NEW YORK 1991--is inspired by the real-life Halifax Police Strike of 1981. The film features a lawless city, terrorized by a group of proud-boys, who target and kill the patrons of a LGBT club. One of the patrons escapes and finds refuge in the safety in the company Horatio (Tom Nardini) and his crew, who are willing to fight back. Rooftop chase scenes, shootouts, explosions, chaos, panic and Trailer Park Boys' Philadelphia "Phil" Collins (aka Rosie). This movie is a wild ride, do not sleep on this one!

DEEP DIVE - In this week's follow-up to Part 1, we explore John Carpenter's HALLOWEEN and how it really kick-started the SLASHER genre. We also review the resentment critics (and Ronald Reagan) had for the genre--FRIDAY THE 13th, in particular.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN NOSTALJUNKIES! One of the biggest and most enduring shows of all-time, THE SIMPSONS, not only influenced our love for dysfunction, but their beloved Halloween Specials (Treehouse of Horror) are to Halloween what Hallmark movies, in PJs, with gentle sobbing are to Christmas.

Treehouse of Horror, also known as The Simpsons Halloween Specials, is a series of Halloween-themed episodes of the animated sitcom The Simpsons, each consisting of three separate, self-contained segments. These segments usually involve the Simpson family in some horror, science fiction, or supernatural setting. They take place outside the show's normal continuity and completely abandon any pretense of being realistic, being known for their far more violent and much darker nature than an average Simpsons episode. The first, entitled "Treehouse of Horror", aired on October 25, 1990, as part of the second season and was inspired by EC Comics horror tales. Since then, there have been 32 other Treehouse of Horror episodes, with one airing every year.
