Must Be Tuesday: Lucifer Reviews (Alli & Mary)

Remember last week when we worried that some of the tension would leave the show post-Epitaph One? Well, not to be all "we thought so" but, well... This week's Dollhouse brings us an episode completely devoid of any meaningful forward progress for the two ostensible leads of the show, Paul and Echo. Luckily, Topher and Whiskey do the emotional heavy lifting, and it's just enough meaty moral questioning to keep the viewer interested. Unfortunately, Whiskey and her interesting plot leave us at the end of the ep. Pour one out for our aptly-named girl! 

The tough thing about the series finale of Lucifer is that we hate it, but we don't hate it. We leave our celestial characters, for the most part, grown and changed in an organic and positive way. Maze is finally her own person, Amenadiel has balanced humanity and divinity, Lucifer has devoted himself to helping others. Our humans are doing ok too. The bones are there, but the mechanism to get there sucks. Still, Lucifer is a fun and rewatchable show, mostly silly, sometimes touching, overall an enjoyable experience.

We're getting into Lucifer season 3 this week by talking about the first four episodes. The season plot isn't much more than a blip on the radar: we're briefly introduced to the concept of the sinnerman, but it's mostly dropped for episodic murders. Lucifer has wings, but no devil face; Chloe's got problems with Pierce, the new boss; and everyone else is mostly just treading water. Kinda makes you miss mum, doesn't it? But hey, it's quarantine, so grab a drink and let's get through it together. Cheers!

This week's we're watching Peter and Olivia. In the Lab. With the Revolver and... oof. "Peter" is a masterclass from John Noble, who succeeds in doing what should not be possible in the middle of two episodes revealing Walter's most heinous crimes: forcing the view to empathize with him. Meanwhile, in present day, poor Peter is truly baffled as to what the frick is going on with his little family as Olivia and Walter struggle in their own ways to do the right thing. When Fringe is good, it is truly excellent.

After discussing what it means to be an admittedly imperfect & blithe podcast about a (supernatural) police procedural, we have decided to continue on with Lucifer. That being said, we will be discussing the implicit pro-police bias that a show like has a byproduct of its heroes being cops. Dissecting this bias is something we should have been doing before, & will be a feature of the show from here on out. We wanted to jump into this topic immediately, and as such postponed our Sheri Elwood interview. 

DRUNK is the word of the day as we begin with silly detailed discussion of Harry Potter and, weirdly, the dentist. Eventually we do get to the Buffy talk around the 18 minute mark, so jump in to that if you don't need ramblings. Discussion of Choices and The Prom follows!

Alli and Mary are back to talk Lucifer season 5B! This week we're getting to know the source of all of Lucifer's problems (or is he?): God! We're talking episodes Family Dinner and Bloody Celestial Karaoke Jam. As everyone recovers from their 5A-related trauma, new trauma in the form of trauma waltzes right in. Team Celestial has daddy issues, Dan has oops-I-banged-god's-wife issues, Chloe has doormat issues and Maze has soul issues. Linda's just happy her baby is human and Ella remains in the dark. Onto the singing!

Well, season 3 of iZombie was certainly a season of television that happened. Why it happened the way it did remains a bit of a mystery for your intrepid MBT podcaster. Major continues his heroic effort to actually have a character arc, while everyone else languishes in an unchanging haze. Seattle is officially Zombieville, y'all, and that should be way more exciting than it is. We're taking a brief three week iZombie break to get into the new season of Veronica Mars; hopefully to return refreshed. Cheers!

Alli & Mary are happy to join her in these first revival four episodes: we talk about Veronica's bad behavior, all our new friends & suspects, Dick's inexplicable presence and make some predictions for the end of season four. This week on Fringe, Walter's doing the hard work of being the first person to forgive him on "White Tulip" and Peter finally freaking finds out in "The Man From the Other Side". Poor oblivious Peter is truly living in his own world this week as Walter and Olivia clumsily "play it cool" with their life-altering news. We do get some dope time travel and truly excellent SFX, though, so for once the non-character moments truly shine for MBT!

The word of the day is: controversy. The Veronica Mars revival ends with a literal bang & our twitter feed has not been the same since. The final 10-15 min of the ep overshadows the rest of what we feel was a solid season & brings up several big questions: what do creators owe to fans? Is this more pronounced in television? How effective are revivals, overall? We spend the first half going over positive impressions of the show & the second half negative. Grab a drink & get into it with us! Cheers.

Logan and Veronica break up again, for real, we swear, this time. Logan deals with that by hanging out with a heart-eyed kid, and Veronica deals with it by getting involved in a basketball murder mystery. Keith continues on in more interesting plots as he investigates the dean's murder. Also, Dick has an amusing runner of getting married and Veronica ends up in the clink.

Liv comes into her own this week and she clocks Rita/Gilda a good one. Meanwhile, Major and Blaine reluctantly team up for a little Major torture followed by some dad torture. Things finally catch up with Blaine in the next ep, though, when Mr. Boss brings the fear of god into us all, and slits Blaine's throat. A-men. Super Ravi comes to the rescue again as he continues his work on the cure and Drake reveals he has yet another employer. So many layers on our boy Drake, but ultimately: we miss Lowell.

Alli and Mary grab some beers and dig into the Veronica Mars bus crash mystery, which makes its triumphant return to the forefront of the show. Mary lays out her Big Bad theory, so listen in to see how close to the mark she got! After that, we discuss which characters have experienced the most growth (Weevil), the most stalling (Veronica), and the most backsliding (to an extent, both Logan and Wallace). But hey, at least Wallace and Logan get to bro out! 

On this week's episode, Alli and Mary discuss Clive, Liv and Major and how they're dealing with the potential new zombie hometown... wait, just kidding, it's hard to focus on anything that isn't the TERRIBLE and CRINGEWORTHY Blaine/Peyton/Ravi love triangle. You guys ready for an old fashioned Must Be Tuesday "What the Fuck Are They Thinking?" rant? Because your'e going to get one. Pour yourself a tall glass of something for this one, folks.

Alli and Mary lament what feels like a lot of repetition for a short show like Firefly: these episodes particularly suffer from two emotional funerals of one-off characters. Two funerals! In a row! Dear Joss Whedon, this isn't ER, we're not watching for that mad depressing drama dude. We also discuss how Firefly's character arcs are reminiscent of Buffy's season 6. Heart of Gold and The Message are an interesting contrast, the former is an excellent affecting episode, while the latter is a touch overwrought and melodramatic. Additionally, insanely sweaty sex scene. Tone it down, set sweat people. 

This week we finish up the present day Dollhouse plotlines before jumping into the ~future~ next week. There is some high-impact storytelling going on here, and a solid effort to wrap up the show for fans. Still... there is less than no room to breathe, and the episodes and characters suffer. Ultimately, Dollhouse realizes its potential more than Firefly ever did, but viewers are left with emotional whiplash to achieve it. At least Paul is roasted many times over! Cheers.

Alli and Mary discuss Firefly's big comeback into popular culture, the much awaited, eagerly anticipated, loved-into-reality Serenity. Joss Whedon goes all out with the budget he never had on the show, which leads to one of the largest differences between show and movie: is Firefly a western with a hint of space, or futuristic sci-fi with a sprinkling of westerns? What you enjoy on that spectrum probably influences your feelings on the Big Damn Movie. For our part, we love it. ROBOTS, people. ROBOTS. We're pumped to hit you all next week with Dollhouse! Well, the one this we can say for the past week is that it happened. If you're looking for a drunken discussion on fantasy military demon hunters and angry anti-Thanksgiving spirits, here's your place. Buffy's The Initiative and Pangs. 

Don't let the title fool you, we really did love these eps. In the first ep, we yadda-yadda some new tech, but get to spend some time with Victor and Sierra, so it's worth it. Adelle drinks our podcast into the dirt, but comes out the other side as fierce as ever. In the next ep, we finally get to the much-touted attic, which is almost as fun and trippy as Buffy's Restless except... just a bit less than you would hope. Still, we have a good time up until the end when we're again threatened by the dreaded Caroline. RIP Echo as the most important character in the show! We'll miss you girl.

This week on Veronica Mars, we revisit last season's patsy, Abel Koontz and his daughter Amelia. Spoiler alert: they dead. However, this does allow Veronica to buddy up with her two slightly-inappropriate middle age man partners in crime: Cliff and Clarence. Meanwhile, Logan's life continues to suck but Veronica is busy being pod-girlfriend dealing with Meg's Mystery Babysitting Creepiness. Duncan remains shady AF.

PS: yep, Mary's voice is absurd this week--think of it like a fun cartoon character. 

This week, we take brief pause in Buffy to review and chat about the brand-new Gilmore Girls revival. If you haven't seen it yet, big warning for SPOILERS. Martinis and beers to talk Stars Hollow, Amy-Sherman Palladino, the townies and the titular Gilmore Girls. Next week, back into Buffy with Doomed and A New Man.

Alli and Mary get back to our roots and discuss some Packers drama (RIP Packers season #nopackno). After that, we chat two pretty great episodes of Dollhouse. Adelle and dollhouse management have gotten to the "winging it" stage of running a giant shady business and basically just brainstorm some ideas for how to cure the dolls of personality. It's a great episode, but the idea totally fails. In the next episode, Topher gets to continue his catchphrase: "It's not my fault!" as everyone learns that there's a mole. Echo pretty much catches the him all by herself (Bye Dominic!) bc the staff is incompetent. Some real Buffy the Vampire Slayer/Watcher vibes here, y'all!

This week, Alli and Mary discuss Liv totally melting into the personalities of the various zombie brains-- yet, we don't really see any other zombie act this way. Since there isn't a lot of lore in the show yet, it's hard to get a good handle on who Liv is as a person. Is that on purpose? Are we doing Buffy an vampire lore part II? Who could know. Meanwhile, the show mourns Lowell for one whole episode, and then we move on to Major's (admittedly, big deal) issues. Will someone help this dude out? Seriously. 

Alli and Mary hit our local bar before recording today's discussion of Buffy's Gone and Doublemeat Palace, where Alli continues her defense of oft-hated episodes like DMP and Beer Bad. At least we're not stuck in a tedious pit of despair like last week? It's tough to bring the humor when the show is determined to bring you down, but that's what the beer is for. Cheers!

Mary's season-long Logan grudge is tested this week as the Veronica/Logan relationship kicks into gear. Spoiler alert: Mary remains skeptical. These episodes also test our patience with Veronica herself, as her selfishness and single-mindedness are put in the spotlight. This brings a discussion of the heroines of our two reviewed shows, Veronica Mars and Buffy Summers, and their ideas of justice and empathy. Additionally, 90s heartthrob Jonathan Taylor Thomas shows up to 21 Jump Street Neptune High.  

In what is sure to prove MBT's biggest Star Wars positivity challenge, this week's podcast talks 1999's The Phantom Menace. We won't lie to you: we don't have the child-nostalgia for this film that some do, and without that, the movie is dull. We discuss what we think could be changed for improvement, but also where we think there are some story and character diamonds in the rough. Plus: Duel of the Fates! Cheers to that.  

This week Alli and Mary talk the Baader-Meinhof phenomenon, the variety of up-next show considerations (Veronica Mars, Fringe, Alias, etc), and whether we could handle the craziness of a convention. This week, Alli and Mary are discussing Lucifer season 5B's Resting Devil Face and Dan Espinoza: Naked and Afraid. First, God takes a page out of Lucifer's learn-from-humanity playbook and abandons his powers for a couple days. To his credit, he "gets it" much faster than Lucifer, and manages to fix most of his problems and relationships in one day. Good for you, God! Next up, we have one of the best filler eps in all of Lucifer featuring Dan and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day. Xander wishes he could be as great as Dan!

Season 4 slows to a crawl with this week's Buffy episodes The I in Team and Goodbye Iowa. Ready your booze, folks: you'd think the Big Bad reveal would be thrilling, but you would be wrong!

Tequila shots and beers for Buffy the Vampire Slayer's Homecoming and Band Candy, where we realize there isn't enough alcohol in the known universe to forget Willow and Xander's ridiculous feelings. 

This week on Must Be Tuesday, we discuss the serious, interminable downturn in the episode quality post-Dean murder mystery. Guys, Paul Rudd shows up and these episodes STILL blow. All of our beloved characters are replaced by their pod-CW counterparts, full of angst, teen drama and handholding. It's a calmer, tamer, sweeter Veronica Mars. Bleh.

We discuss the merits of Logan Echolls, why the actual fuck Dick Casablancas is still part of our lives, how Wallace is the show's MVP, and our two new season mysteries: what's up with the bus crash and what happened on the bridge. We also gain some heavy-hitter guest stars in Tessa Thompson (Valkyrie) and Krysten Ritter (Jessica Jones). Superheroes! 

We're back to iZombie after our brief foray back into Veronica Mars. Alli is starting a brand new style of watching the show: embracing the binge style and whatevering the rest. With that in mind, we enter New Seattle, a zombie haven run by Fillmore Graves. It's a brave new world, where Liv can live and solve crimes openly. Ravi has become a were-zombie, which is a delightful addition. There's some fun lore, and some less-than-fun crime solving and romantic tension. All in all, it certainly can't be worse than last season. Cheers!

This week, we discuss the weirdly out of place "lol nerds" vibe of this week's first iZombie ep, Virtual Reality Bites. We're seriously out here defining the term internet trolls you guys. You can do better, show! We get a little deep into LA industry culture before moving on to big life changes for primarily Liv and Major. Things are going well for Liv, who makes up with her mom and gets closer to Lowell. Major, on the other hand, continues getting his ass beat. Such is life.

This week on Must Be Tuesday, Alli and Mary discuss a question we have't faced before: what to do when a show drops in quality and you don't know if it will get better. As our listeners have surely noted, we are not loving the direction of iZombie this season: characters are swinging wildly through inconsistent arcs that circle around and lead exactly nowhere. Mysteries of the week aren't improving. The season lacks a cohesive theme. The answer, much like our soon-to-record foray back into Veronica Mars, might be a switch up in style: binging. Grab a beer and gear up, because it's a bitch session.

We talk a lot of Packers at the opening of this episode because let's be real, anything is better than an episode that has a plotline that is literally "Sex House." Anyway, there's probably not enough alcohol in the world for me to watch "Where the Wild Things Are" again; "New Moon Rising" on the other hand was pretty decent. Join us for booze and chatting Buffy. 

This week we've got Dollhouse's season finale (not counting bonus semi-finale Epitaph One, which will be next week). All of our storylines coalesce at last, with Ballard finally finding relevance... unfortunately, it's as "the guy who brought a murderer in". Oops! Sadly, he is still the best investigator the Dollhouse has... EMBARRASSING. The sheer stupidity of upper management gets a real spotlight in this ep. We also get some Alpha/Echo action, as Echo ascends to, well, not much yet. 

We continue easing into Fringe this week, which is at this point just barely dipping its toe into the weird scifi universe it's destined to become. These episodes tread and re-tread ground: hey, did you know Walter used to be in a mental institution? Did you know Olivia had a thing with her former partner, John Scott (drink!)? Did you know Peter is... here I guess? Well anyway, the show is still fun and it's only going to get better, so there's that to look forward to!

This week on iZombie, the Peyton and Blaine train keeps rolling, much to the chagrin of your hosts. No explanation for Peyton's behavior or the group's willingness to trust Blaine's perspective is forthcoming, so we're forced to assume everyone on the show got hit with the stupid stick. Meanwhile, Major is slowly dying and Fillmore Graves remains sketchy. Liv is there too, but you would hardly know it despite being the main character. Season three, man. Oof. 

Alli and Mary chat Wisconsin's Spotted Cow beer, all-nighters, and fun Christmas plans like Medieval Times and watching Krampus. Then, for Veronica Mars, we meet new girl-buddies Mac and Meg. The former thrives on taking 09-ers for their mad money and the latter is nice, which is a big accomplishment by itself for a rich kid at Neptune High. Later, Aaron Samuels from Mean Girls gets roped into a cult and we learn a valuable lesson that seems to boil down to: hey, cults aren't all bad! Interesting choice, Vmars.  

Start to finish Buffy talk this week for alternate-universe style Normal Again and at-least-it's-not-super-depressing Entropy. We discuss if Dawn has become more bearable over time, if Xander is regressing to pre-season 5 levels of douche, and why it is that Tara isn't simply in every episodes, spreading sunshine and rationality. Hey, we liked these episodes! Cheers!

This week on Fringe, we're going through another big chunk of season one. We reminisce a bit on the benefits of a weekly schedule vs. binging, and how a "see what sticks" mentality can lead to awesome, discussable benefits but also frustrating dead ends. Back in the Fringe universe, we get Fringe's first really great overarching plotty episode in Ability, which explores Olivia's past (and implied future!). We also get a bit more Observer content, and we say a not-so-fond farewell to JOHN SCOTT. Cheers!

Mini-beers in the name of responsibility this week for Buffy's Enemies and Earshot. A healthy dose of angst and bad decisions for Faith and a real plot line for Everyday Sunnydale Student Jonathan! 

Alli and Mary have a martini, gripe about The Pack, and chat the reveal of Angel's dirty secret. Buffy the Vampire Slayer, indeed. 

This week on MBT we're talking A Little Harmless Stalking and Nothing Lasts Forever. It grieves me to yadda over a Linda-centric ep, but unfortunately she takes a backseat to functional Deckerstar and the return of Eve! Missed that peppy original woman. Later, Lucifer decides he wants to be God and Maze the Queen of Hell. Nice to have goals! Chloe wouldn't know, she's quitting the LAPD, which, good, but also ... ?

On this week's ep, we have beers and talk Showtime and Potential. Big questions include: Can you enjoy Spike and Buffy post-assault if the show doesn't care? Why has Buffy lost her trademark compassion? Was there ever a stupider, more mythology-confusing idea than the potential slayers? We say no.

Alli and Mary get on a real tangent this week about the Packers without Aaron Rodgers, fantasy football, and Alli's general winning percentage. The Vmars goodness starts at about 20 min, so feel free to skip ahead.

Veronica Mars continues its tradition of casting monster talent this week with Jessica Chastain, who unfortunately finds herself in a mostly boring mystery. The first ep, however, is much more interesting as we learn about Logan's Tragic Backstory (TM) and that even in an episode named after him Duncan manages to fade into the background. 

This week on Fringe we knock out the required mid-2000s animal rights episode, which is meh at best, but then we get back to the real shit: Olivia's messed up childhood! We meet with Nick Lane, who is like Olivia but less functional, which is saying something since Olivia spends a large portion of this episode convinced she's dream killing people. After that we move into a little ZFT and vampire action; also, Rachel's getting a divorce. 

Must Be Tuesday is back to talk the last season of Lucifer--for real this time! These first two episodes serve mainly to summarize what happened in season 5 and to pull back and explore the developments of last season's finale. Is Lucifer God? Big fat no. Is Chloe his consultant? Also no. Is Maze queen of hell? Not so much. Dan's in hell? Not for long! And so on. There's a new big bad in town, but she's just a blip in these episodes so more on her next time.

Grab a beer to hair of the dog your Halloween hangover and join us talking Buffy's Harsh Light of Day and Fear, Itself. The return of Spike as well as a couple of firsts: Buffy's first one night stand and the Scoobies' first college Halloween. 

Everyone is changing their status this week, as Blaine cures himself but gives himself amnesia (or does he?), Rita turns into a zombie, and Major turns back into a zombie. Tequila shots and beers for Buffy the Vampire Slayer's Tough Love and Spiral. We have to wonder: what is the tipping point for Willow's slowly-more-horrible personality? How come Glory didn't wise up and kick ass a bit sooner? Who's life sucks worse, Dawn or Buffy? We drink because we question, and we question because we care.

The Veronica/Logan merry-go-round continues its cycle this week, as they manage to get back together and screw it up in a single Must Be Tuesday podcast ep! A new record. After living through the 90s and Buffy, then the 2000s and Veronica Mars/Firefly/Dollhouse, we've finally made it to the modern day! It's the teens, y'all! We're pumped to start iZombie, which will be the first show both Alli and Mary have not seen in its entirety. Once we hit the mid-season, prep yourselves for Theory Time. For now, we're introduced to the iZombie universe with personality-sponge zombie Liv, perfect specimen Ravi, ex-fiance Major and partner Clive, who is super serious but somehow is down with psychics. Cheers!

After Chloe puts her life on the line to save him, Lucifer realizes that he's maybe, not quite ready to be done with their partnership. This leads to an attempt to split his life in half: relishing in his devilish ways outside of work via partying with Eve and responsibility/maturity via his work with Chloe. Go back to therapy, Lucifer! You need it bud! Over with team angel baby, Linda assures Maze she's part of the family, while Amenadiel grows further from his. Up with Demon Auntie!

Alli and Mary have celebratory shots, grab some Scotch, and discuss Buffy's season two finale, Becoming Parts 1&2:  featuring Spike sass, a big suck demon, some slayer death, and a sword through Angel's chest. 

We've reached our penultimate episode of the Buffy review podcast, where Alli and Mary partake in early-morning beers and discuss whether there was ever a moment in all of Buffy as shoddy as the Scoobies kicking her out of her own goddamn house. To where have the Giles, Willow, and Dawn of seasons past disappeared? Was this all a ruse to lead us to a tender Spike/Buffy scene? Is it amazing that Faith's character is the only one left in tact?

Major trigger warning for the discussion on the first episode, Belonging. We finally get Sierra's full backstory, and it is a doozy of terrible and horrific experiences that continue to the present day. Topher gets a minute amount of "redemption" but as usual it comes at the expense of poor Sierra, who really can't catch a break. In episode two, we get into the politics of Rossum and how they're trying to take down our LA dollhouse. Ballard takes off and Echo is kidnapped by River from Firefly.  

Fox Mulder would be proud as Trust No One is the central theme of today's episodes, Lie to Me and The Dark Age. Alli and Mary grab martinis as we watch Buffy and the lying liars who lie to her. 

So here at MBT we really thought Lucifer 5B would be out by now, & that our Fringe eps would drop after that. But, it's not to be since as far as we can tell Lucifer 5B may never release (jokes! ... unless?). Anyway, we're thrilled to be back on our bullshit discussing female-led shows. Fringe is the spiritual successor to the X-Files and, in many ways, a spiritual predecessor to shows like Lucifer. Come for Joshua Jackson, stay for crazy family dynamics, parallel universes & Olivia Dunham's gun. Cheers!

We're happy to soon be moving past peak misery and into some more fun evil antics. But first, we have to talk the show's depiction of sexual assault and murder of beloved characters. Pour one out for poor, sweet Tara. May someone other than the audience miss you properly. 

Alli and Mary grab a Negroni and a beer respectively to chat this week's Veronica Mars episodes. Disappointment is the name of the game: we have a fake rape victim, Logan running off from a burning building, and Keith and Veronica's fave prof having affairs with a married woman. Of course, Veronica learns a Very Valuable Lesson about trusting the people who mean the most to you and also to forgive, but if I was a betting woman I'd say that's gonna stick as well as dried sticky tack. This week on Veronica Mars, we shout out some cool listeners, rant about the weird pacing of middle season two and the absurdly long previously-ons. Over with the characters, Veronica is doing some tradition season one sleuthing, Keith is working the bus crash angle, the Beav and Kendall have their fingers in Neptune real estate, and Logan is skeezing hardcore with sweet sophomore Hannah. The true mystery is where the fuck Wallace and Weevil are, their presence is nowhere to be found.

Alli and Mary discuss our feelings on the Dollhouse characters and actors (shoutout to Enver Gjokaj! sorry about my pronunciation my dude!), as well as what the differing goals of the writers/Joss Whedon and the network. Dollhouse's great strength is its grey morality, and how the characters react to the layered peel-back of corporate shadiness. Yet, Fox seemed to feel we were doing a sexy fun action time. We're pumped to discuss how that push and pull plays out over the course of the series. Also, Paul Ballard sucks. Don't @ us! Cheers.

We're finally entering the ZFT endgame, which ends up being a bit of a bust: Nina is shot, but she's fine. Everyone is looking for William Bell, who we now think is the ZFT leader. Walter yoinked by the Observer, mostly so he can reminisce on the """something""" he lost and check out the grave of ... Peter? ZFT is stopped and Olivia is off to meet Belly, who's taken up residence on a parallel earth. 

This week Alli and Mary discuss the beginning of the final season of iZombie. Unfortunately, the first four episodes underwhelm. The season is messy, getting a bit too big for it's britches with social messaging, committing to exactly nothing while comparing itself to everything. Tonally, we're dealing with a sobbing Major juxtaposed with a dance competition juxtaposed with a who's the daddy pregnancy soap opera. This show can be better, so why isn't it? Grab a drink, you'll need it. 

Things get meta here on MBT's Fringe 4, as we discuss not knowing when to release Fringe and also guessing Lucifer might not be out until... February, gasp! Lol forever, what optimism. Anyway, back on Fringe, Peter's got some dull issues because his character hasn't been totally figured out yet and Olivia is still focused primarily on our pal JOHN SCOTT. He basically gave her a consciousness STD and she's infected with his memories, so we have some more tank fun. Happy days for Walter!

We have a couple of light-touch mysteries this week on Veronica Mars, which seems to be a bit of foreshadowing for how season three will play out. Veronica is back to her old tricks of making enemies, Weevil struggles to find work as an ex-con, Logan & Veronica negotiate an adult relationship, and there's a truly unfortunate plot regarding rape and feminism. Oh yeah, and Keith is there. Remember when he was important to the plot? 

Alli, Mary and special guest Alex finally catch up to present with The Last Jedi as we prepare for The Rise of Skywalker in just two days (!!). Last Jedi is controversial, moreso even than the prequels due to recency bias, and that is not a totally undeserved reputation. Last Jedi has high highs and low lows. We discuss Star Wars in the era of Marvel, the pyramid of male attractiveness, misapplied characters and dope lightsaber fights. Cheers!

This week, we talk our experience watching Farscape, the difference between binge-watching and watching week-to-week, and how the concept of spoilers is just lost on some people. Over with Buffy, we watch Get It Done and Storyteller, which feature Buffy's stress, the Scooby-gang's usefulness breakdown, and a filler episode featuring Andrew. Cheers!

This week's episodes finally deal with Veronica's roofie and rape at Shelly Pomroy's party. Turns out it was everyone and no one, which is, we suppose, in keeping with Veronica Mars' various themes. The mystery puts a strain on V's ever-growing relationship with Logan, who himself seems to have doubled-down on being Team Veronica. We also get some nice Wallace scenes, as per usual, and Weevil coming to the rescue. Duncan is also around fresh from Cuba, and he is not taking the reveals of what happened at the party and L/V's relationship too well. Welcome back, D!

So, Chloe and Lucifer have a daughter. It's best if you don't question it, because the show is begging you not to. Lucifer and Chloe investigate the reasons Lucifer might take off and Lucifer later attempts to bond with Rory. In the second episode, A Lot Dirtier Than That, we revisit the racist cop from season 4, who is now a detective and has not changed his ways. Amenadiel and Harris stick their necks out to do the right thing for a young black woman, while Dan, Ella and Chloe consider their complacency.

On iZombie's season 2 finale, we finally get a full on zombie fight and a ton of potentially cool setup for next season. Ravi, Peyton and Blaine spend their time setting up a love triangle while dealing with Mr. Boss. Meanwhile, Major, Liv and Clive deal with Max Rager and an imminent possible zombie apocalypse. Unfortunately, while they do take out that particular threat, we get the onset of Fillmore Graves (geddit?) and Seattle as a full-on Zombie State. Dun dun dun!!

Alli and Mary discuss the supernatural detective drama and the subsequent procedural vs. serial television debate. In a netflix world, how does a show like iZombie, or any of its similar peers, balance casual viewers and die-hard fans? We're looking forward to digging into this throughout the duration of the show. This week, we learn that Blaine straight up sucks and although Ravi is still awesome, he needs to brush up on the scientific method. 

This week we have a bit of taco bell chat prior to our in depth discussion of two episodes with major implications for the rest of the show. We debate the concept of living forever-- is it really immortality if it's just a copy of you? Meanwhile, Topher makes Sierra into a best buddy in a plot that we suspect was supposed to be sweet, but instead comes off as entitled and skeezy. Ballard provides the bridge between the two episodes: he breaks it off with Mellie and then breaks into the dollhouse with surprise guest Alpha! Joss Whedon continues his love of reusing actors with Firefly's Alan Tudyk. He's awesome.

We've reached the portion of the iZombie season cycle with the boring filler. This time, we're dealing with a dying teen girl immune to the zombie virus. In typical Rob Thomas fashion, this character/actor is reused in the new Veronica Mars; she's not super interesting in either. Hey, remember when Liv had a mom and brother? Are they in Seattle? Are they zombies? Hello... is this thing on?

Tequila shots hit hard this week to help us discuss Xander-centric The Replacement and Riley-centric Out of My Mind. Did you know that Riley has masculinity issues? Well, after his episode, you surely do. Cheers!

Joss Whedon's Restless, like Hush before & Once More With Feeling after, is a freakin' masterpiece. We delve into the scoobies' psyche, collective and individual, for a trippy and insightful good time. Grab a beer (or something stronger!) and listen in. 

Would that I could attach gifs to this description section, so you will just have to imagine the gif of Holt in Brooklyn Nine-Nine yelling BOOOOONNNNNEEE??? Because that's where we're at! Finally! But before we can get there, we have to have the celestial himbo squad confusing poor Chloe about her ostensible "gift" status, Amenadiel pulling an explanation from his ass that Chloe is horny enough to go with, Chloe freaking out and Lucifer acting like a dumbass, so pretty much business as usual over at the LAPD. 

This week we have Finale Part II: Epitaph One. We discuss the risk Joss Whedon took with the episode; its ambitious, and it certainly commits to its dystopian premise. Unfortunately, perhaps due to budget, the episode falls a bit short of its potential. What it succeeds at, however, is pushing Dollhouse's usual moral questions: what is immortality? If you have a brilliant idea, can you pursue it no matter the cost? What do we owe to each other? Oh wait, that's The Good Place. Grab a drink and philosophize with us. Cheers!

Alli and Mary are back, and for our new season we're discussing Lucifer, your traditional male/female cop show with a biblical twist. Can this show be a little cheesy, a little sleazy and a touch formulaic? Well, sure, but it's also a ton of fucking fun. A silly premise is presented with an earnestness and care. The cast is dope. The music is a blast. This week, we go over the first four eps of season 1 and talk Lucifer's powers, the Los Angeles worldbuilding & the intro of our main characters. Also, FINALLY someone is getting therapy up in here. Damn.

Alli and Mary discuss birthdays (Buffy and Mary), families (blood and found), fashion (those belts though) and creepy stalker vampires (Spike). Buffy the character celebrates her 20th birthday and Joss Whedon's Buffy the show closes in on its 20th birthday. Cheers! 

This week we grab a Spotted Cow and discuss the long-awaited Veronica Mars movie, a project that led the way of Kickstarter and fan-backed revivals (see also: Arrested Development). The movie leaves us debating if Veronica is really better off back in Neptune and, honestly, if Neptune is better off with her in it. Overall, it's funny, engaging and well worth the wait.
