13 Sep 2021Kat West: Date Night Murder or Accident? | MURDERISH Ep. 09100:48:39
On January 12, 2018, 47-year old Jeff West and his 42-year-old wife Kat enjoyed a date night in their small Alabama city. It would prove to be an unforgettable evening, not from all the drinking and dining but because Kat wouldn’t live to see the next sunrise. Initially, it was unknown whether Kat’s death was a tragic accident or something malicious. Investigators learned that what seemed like a cut-and-dry case, would eventually amount to a maze of uncertainty. Although a jury reached a verdict in this case, doubt still exists about their decision. Check us out: Visit Murderish.com for more info about the show and Creator/Host, Jami. 18 Sep 2023Best of MURDERISH - E86 "Brown's Chicken Massacre"01:06:16
Late in the evening on Friday, January 8, 1993, the employees in one particular restaurant in Palatine Chicago didn’t know at the time that they would not be going home that night. Hours after these workers began their closing routine, all seven of their bodies would be discovered inside of Brown’s Chicken, a popular restaurant chain. Upon entering the bloody scene, officer Ron Conley dispatched backup saying “Five in the cooler.” This tragedy was the worst mass murder in the Chicago area since 1966 when Richard Speck murdered eight student nurses in their dorm. It would take nine long years for authorities to receive a break in the horrendous case widely known as the Brown’s Chicken Massacre. 20 Oct 2023FYRE Fest: “Handy Andy, a True American Hero” | Serial Streamers TV Club01:03:42
In this episode of Serial Streamers, Jami walks listeners through the infamous, ill-fated FYRE Festival which was highlighted in the Netflix documentary titled Fyre: The Greatest Party That Never Happened. The documentary chronicles Scammy McScammerson Billy McFarland, a wannabe tech bro, and his co-founder rapper Ja Rule’s half-a** attempt to throw an exclusive music festival in the Bahamas to promote their joint-venture FYRE app. Organizers of the festival would soon learn that the island on which the event was to occur had NO infrastructure and couldn’t handle thousands of festival attendees. From janky hurricane tents being sold to attendees as “luxury tents,” to sad and soggy cheese sandwiches being served as a proper meal …the FYRE Festival was doomed from the start. 08 May 2023Ana Walshe: “Google Speaks” | MURDERISH Ep. 13500:35:53
When Serbian immigrant Ana Walshe visited her native country back in December 2022, no one in her family thought it would be the last time they’d ever see her. Just a few days into 2023, however, Massachusetts investigators scrambled for answers when Ana was reported missing. She had a beautiful family, a promising real estate career, and enough income to rent two lavish homes. Was Ana inclined to start over somewhere else? Or did something ominous happen to make her vanish? Investigators soon found damning evidence, including grisly Google searches. Later this year, Ana Walshe’s family may get the answers they deserve as the man suspected of murdering her is expected to go on trial.  Follow Jami and MURDERISH on Instagram & TikTok @JamiOnAir.  Sponsors Hatch: Visit Hatch.co/murderish for up to 15% off of a Hatch Rest plus free shipping.  ZocDoc: Visit ZocDoc.com/MURDERISH to download the app and book a top-rated doctor today. 05 Mar 2024Introducing: In the Blood00:04:00
IN THE BLOOD is a new true crime miniseries, hosted by Ben McKenzie ("Southland", "Gotham") that asks why it took the state of Texas three trials to convict Ronald Trimboli, of a triple murder, if he was actually guilty? One of the first murder cases in America to use DNA, atechnology that was in its infancy at that time, this story would pit developing science against questions about lack of motive, a clear alibi, andat least one alternative suspect - that one of the victims explicitly told the police might try to murder him. A story about questions of innocence or guilt that stretches decades, from the crime in the 1980s, all the way through three trials, a DNA re-test, and potential new evidence discovered in just the last few years. Look for "In The Blood", from Voyage Media, anywhere you listen to podcasts. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

07 Nov 2022Jessica McCormack: “#JusticeForJessica” | MURDERISH Ep. 12200:50:41
When a 25 year old Jessica McCormack and her three young daughters disappeared suddenly in July of 2019, Jessica’s closest friends thought she was taking time away to decompress. They had conversations with her on Facebook while she was gone, but it soon became clear that the person on Facebook was just an imposter who’d hacked into Jessica’s account. Several weeks later, Jessica’s body was found on a highway in the Ozarks after apparently falling out of a suitcase that she’d been stuffed into. The shocking discovery prompted a search for Jessica’s three daughters. This would mark the beginning of an ongoing fight to find answers: who killed Jessica McCormack?   To report information regarding the murder of Jessica McCormack, please contact the McDonald County Sheriff’s Office at (417) 223-4319, or try calling the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI. When heading out to run errands, you fully expect to make it home safely. In June of 2007, 18-year-old Kelsey Smith went to the store, but she never made it home. No one could’ve predicted that less than two weeks after high school graduation, Kelsey’s life would come to a violent end. Outside a Target store less than 10 minutes from her childhood home, Kelsey was forced into her car and abducted. As Johnson County detectives frantically searched for the missing teen, the community struggled to understand how something like this could’ve happened in broad daylight.   The Kelsey Smith Foundation: KelseysArmy.org   Become a MURDERISH | Behind the Mic member. 17 Jul 2023Lawrence Family: “Collateral Damage” | MURDERISH Ep. 14000:42:13
When someone gets involved in the drug trade, violence usually isn’t far behind. It’s a dangerous path to tread where survival can hinge almost entirely upon alliances. If you piss off the wrong person, you might pay with your life. In the late 1980s, Missouri native Darrell Mease encountered an opportunity he couldn’t turn down. The 42-year-old carpenter was hired by Lloyd Lawrence, who happened to be a kingpin in a local methamphetamine ring. Instead of considering the danger he might face, Mease was blinded by dollar signs. This chance encounter set Mease’s life on a deeply violent trajectory. It would escalate into an extreme act of revenge outside a serene cabin in the Ozark mountains where an entire family would be murdered. 16 Jan 2023Robert Sorrells: “From the Big Screen to the Big House” | MURDERISH Ep. 12700:39:54
A character actor who appeared in over 100 films and TV shows between the early 60s and late 80s, Robert Sorrells made a living playing bit parts in big productions: classics like Gunsmoke, Bonanza, The Twilight Zone. No matter the plot, the roles typically ended the same for Sorrells―with his character either firing a bullet, or taking one himself. His early filmography reads like an advertisement for the NRA: Gunfight in Abilene, Mosby’s Marauders, Death of a Gunfighter, The Ride to Hangman’s Tree. In a disturbing case of life imitating art, Sorrells, at the age of 74, gunned down two men at a bar near his home in Simi Valley, California, killing one and badly wounding the other. His victim: A 45-year-old painting contractor and father of one. The shocking July 2004 murder shined a spotlight on the psychology of aging actors, and begged the question: did a lifetime of being around fake movie violence make Sorrells more inclined to commit the real-life kind? Or, were the characters he portrayed all those years on film closer to reality than those around him realized?   Become a MURDERISH | Behind the Mic member and get access to bonus episodes, ad-free episodes and many other exclusive perks. In this episode of Serial Streamers, Jami recaps the Netflix docuseries: “The Menendez Brothers.” This 2024 documentary highlights the widely publicized case involving Lyle and Erik Menendez, two brothers who killed their wealthy parents, Jose and Kitty Menendez, in 1989. What most people didn’t know at the time was that inside of their Beverly Hills mansion was a house of horrors, according to graphic and disturbing testimony at the Menendez brothers’ first trial. In this episode, Jami recalls her memories and perception of this case from her youth and how her opinions have shifted over the years. She also recaps the documentary and breaks down new developments in this 30+ year old murder case. Sponsors: Visit ForHers.com/MURDERISH for your personalized weight loss treatment options. 12 Sep 2024NEW SEASON | Dirty Money Moves S3 E1: "B*tch in Handcuffs" 00:43:17
Dirty Money Moves: Women in White Collar Crime is BACK! In Season 3, we’re deep diving into the case involving Tracii Hutsona, a self-described “winner” who appeared to have it all: successful businesses, multimillion dollar mansions, luxury cars, and plenty of cash to spend on high end jewelry and vacations. She’s an intriguing woman who’s had a lengthy acting and modeling career, one that saw her on the cover of several major magazines, including Italian Vogue. She also had alleged romantic ties to Keanu Reeves. But the facts of Tracii’s life that make her so intriguing, are also the facts we’re checking and not much about Tracii seems to be real, except maybe her abilities as a con artist. Most recently, she made headlines for embezzling more than $1 million from Joumana Kidd, actress and ex wife of NBA star Jason Kidd, via Tracii’s luxury concierge business. Tracii opened a restaurant in San Diego, fittingly called “Breakfast Bitch,” which was funded, in part, by Joumana’s money. These recent crimes may have grabbed all the media attention, but they are by no means Tracii’s first run-ins with the law. She’s had a long history of schemes, going back 30 years. Yet, the most shocking thing about Tracii isn't the dollar amount she’s managed to steal over the years, but the way in which she victimizes the people closest to her, over and over again. This is the story of an extremely charismatic woman who can manipulate even the most savvy person into believing exactly what she needs them to, all in the pursuit of a lifestyle of luxury, glamor, and self-indulgence. By the end of this season, you might be surprised as to how all of this chaos plays out. 22 Mar 2024Bad Surgeon: “Dr. MOCKiarini” | Serial Streamers TV Club01:11:11
In this episode of Serial Streamers Jami recaps the docuseries, Bad Surgeon: Love Under the Knife. The 2023 Netflix docuseries highlights the story of Dr. Paolo Macchiarini, who is a world-renowned thoracic surgeon known for his work in regenerative medicine. For years, people believed Dr. Macchiarini was a trailblazer in the medical field and someone who worked tirelessly to save lives by transplanting lab-made organs into patients. What people didn’t know was that Dr. Macchiarini was extremely reckless in his approach and fully aware that his poor track record, coupled with faulty plastic organs, would very likely lead to death. Yet, the conman persisted.  Jami gives listeners a solid Cliffs Notes version of the docuseries, and doesn’t hold back on how she feels about the man who she believes is a low-budget version of George Clooney’s ugly distant cousin, at best.  Follow Jami on Instagram & TikTok @JamiOnAir and join the Serial Streamers true crime TV club! The triple homicide, known as the “Halloween Massacre,” occurred in Pasadena, California in 1993. As rare as violent crimes are in Pasadena, the Halloween Massacre was the second triple homicide in the City in less than a three-year time span. On Friday, March 22, 1991, at about 2:30 in the morning, Pasadena police received a call asking them to do a welfare check at a posh home located on the 1300th block of Fairlawn Way. Officers arrived about 18 minutes later to find three deceased teenage girls. The brutal crime scene would haunt the lead detective until his dying day. In this episode of Murderish, I’ll walk you through the tragic murder of three teenagers, a crime for which no motive was ever uncovered. Learn more about your ad choices. 15 May 2023Best of MURDERISH - E118 Daisy De La O: “TikTok Justice” 00:38:15
When Daisy De La O was fatally stabbed in her own community, her friends and family quickly honed in on a fairly obvious suspect. Her case, however, garnered no leads or public attention ..until it was posted on TikTok. It was then that true crime social media jumped in to help. Thanks to the activity on social media about Daisy’s case, a suspect would eventually be identified but not before he slipped out of the area undetected. It has been said that social media can cause more harm than good for serious crime cases, but in Daisy’s case the posts on social media propelled it to a much larger audience and ultimately led to an arrest. 20 Dec 2021Gail Katz Bierenbaum: “Warning Letter” | MURDERISH Ep. 09801:02:37
Relationships oftentimes seem fine, even loving, when viewing them from the outside. It’s difficult to know what may be going on behind closed doors. For one woman, her relationship began this way, with mostly everyone thinking she’d found a man whose future value would allow them to lead a very charmed life. Not long after they began dating, cracks in the relationship began to surface. Soon, people close to the couple observed disturbing behavior that made them very uncomfortable. When the woman went missing, some people quickly pointed the finger at her husband. Family members and investigators would be in for a very long journey to find out what happened, and they would be utterly flabbergasted more than once by discoveries made during the investigation into her disappearance. 19 Dec 2022Dr. Thomas Burchard: “Killing Kindness” | MURDERISH Ep. 12500:41:13
Kelsey Turner was the kind of woman who drew people in without trying. Her bleach-blonde hair and hourglass figure made her a natural model. In a sea of beautiful California women, though, modeling gigs weren’t plentiful enough to support her expensive tastes. Like many young women nowadays, she turned to online sites to sell amateur photos.  By doing so, Kelsey caught the attention of many admirers. Among them was prominent psychiatrist Dr. Thomas Burchard. Despite pushing 70, he was infatuated with 25-year-old Kelsey and offered her ample financial perks to keep her happy.  But the doctor’s attraction for Kelsey began to seriously cloud his judgment. It turned out his giving, sympathetic nature only made him more vulnerable to dangerous predators. Ultimately, that vulnerability led to the doctor’s demise.   Become a MURDERISH | Behind the Mic member and get access to bonus episodes, ad-free episodes and many other exclusive perks. 27 Sep 2021Mason Scott: “Inconvenient Son” | MURDERISH Ep. 09200:45:01
In the early morning hours of August 12, 2008, Christie Scott was home alone with her children. Her husband was out of town. After putting her two sons to bed, Christie finished the movie she was watching. Later, she was awakened out of a dead sleep quickly realizing that something was wrong. Her house was on fire. Christie whisked her youngest son out of the burning house, but sadly her 6-year-old son was still inside. On the surface, it seemed that time wasn’t on Christie’s side and she had to make a choice that no parent ever wants to make. However, as investigators dug their heels into the case a theory arose that painted Christie as a murderer ...a mother who no longer wanted her inconvenient son. 03 Jan 2022Sarah Stern: “The Mysterious Box” | MURDERISH Ep. 09900:53:43
Daydreaming about coming into a sudden windfall is probably something we’ve all done. We let our minds wander for a brief moment, thinking of all the things we’d accomplish if it happened, and how happy we would be having received such a rare treat. Who would you share the money with if it happened to you? Your family, a stranger in need …your best friend? It’s a happy thought, but sometimes the reality can be much darker because money also motivates some people to do terrible things. In this case, curiosity led to the opening of a mysterious box. In this episode of Murderish, I interview John Meehan’s (AKA Dirty John) first wife, Tonia Bales. John’s threats to Tonia during those calls made the hair on my arms stick up. 07 Oct 2024Eazy-E: “What Really Happened?” | MURDERISH Ep. 17201:12:15
In the Winter of 1995, the former leader of hip hop’s most notorious group, N.W.A., lay bed-ridden, pale, and connected to all manner of life-saving devices and fighting for every breath. At the time, Eazy was on top of his game when, seemingly out of nowhere, the iconic rapper developed a cough. At first, Eazy was diagnosed with bronchitis-related asthma and sent home three days after seeking medical care. The prescribed drugs didn’t help. On February 24th, he was admitted to Cedars-Sinai to undergo extensive testing. The lab results shocked everyone, from fans to foes. Eric Wright was dying of AIDS. Within a month, the music mogul and rap pioneer would be dead. Only, the story doesn’t end there. As we approach 30 years since the death of Eazy-E, questions remain. How did he contract AIDS? Why did he perish so quickly from a condition known to result in a slow demise? Could foul play have been involved? And what’s the story behind his death-bed wedding to girlfriend Tomica Woods, and his much debated last will and testament? 28 Mar 2022Ashley Young: “Where is She?”丨MURDERISH Ep. 10600:58:50
Optimists have a tendency to see the best in people, sometimes to their own detriment. According to Healthline, an individual’s calling to fix other peoples’ problems is referred to by psychologists as a savior complex or white knight syndrome. A savior complex would explain the unlikely friendship between Ashley Young and her friend who had a troubling past. Ashley often saw the best in people and believed her positive influence could potentially set someone on the right path. Unfortunately, Ashley’s unwavering loyalty put her in grave danger. After detectives made a gruesome discovery and conducted forensic tests, a parent’s worst nightmare came true. Ashley Young had been murdered and the killer may have had help from an unlikely source. 02 Apr 2018Emily Meehan, Dirty John’s daughter | Murderish Episode 01001:12:14
In this episode of Murderish, I interview John Meehan’s (AKA Dirty John) oldest daughter, Emily Meehan. For those who are unfamiliar, Dirty John is a wildly popular podcast that covers a crazy, true crime that occurred in Orange County California. Please listen to the Dirty John podcast before listening to this episode of Murderish. Emily was just five years old when her parents divorced. In true Dirty John fashion, John Meehan left his family and drained their bank account, leaving Tonia Bales (his wife at the time, and Emily’s mother) with only $23 to support herself and their two daughters. In this interview, Emily opens up about her life with, and without, John Meehan. She also gives great insight into how John was as a father. Emily and I talked about the half sister she has as a result of one of John Meehan’s affairs. She also spoke about the medical condition John had, which caused his organs to be ineligible to donate after he died. Emily is a lot like her mom. She’s strong, smart and driven. Emily will soon graduate from Augusta University with a degree in nursing. I’m especially excited about interviewing Emily because she and her sister, Abby, were not emphasized much in the Dirty John podcast or the Dateline episode featuring this story. We haven’t yet heard Emily’s perspective on this story, until now. Please visit Emily’s YouTube channel by searching Em&Dex. MURDERISH now has a Patreon page! 12 Sep 2022Daisy De La O: “TikTok Justice” | MURDERISH Ep. 11800:41:48
06 Jun 2022Lester Bower Jr: “Controversial Execution”丨MURDERISH Ep. 11100:52:51
The American Justice System was created, in part, to ensure that all Americans get fair and impartial administration of justice. But, the system is by no means perfect and sometimes the wrong person is convicted of a serious crime. But what happens when a person is sentenced to death and years later, new evidence is brought to light that casts doubt on their guilt? Lester Bower Jr. maintained his innocence for decades and then, new witnesses came forward and backed up Bower’s claim of innocence. Would this be enough to save him from being executed? 17 Apr 2023Best of MURDERISH - E104 Vincent Chin: “Modern Day Lynching” 00:55:22
Since the 1880s, immigrants from all over the globe have arrived in the United States hoping to attain a better quality of life, the American Dream. Like so many immigrants before them, Lily and Ben Chin wanted their son Vincent to have more opportunities than he may have had in their native China. In the 1970s and 1980s, however, tensions were high between Japanese and American automobile manufacturers, and that discord extended beyond the auto manufacturing plants. It was at this time that 27-year-old Vincent Chin found himself in peril on the streets of Motor City. His story reminds us why this landmark case is still relevant more than 40 years later. 12 Aug 2024John O’Keefe Part 2: “Karen Read Goes on Trial” | MURDERISH Ep. 16801:20:28
The high-profile trial of Massachusetts finance professor Karen Read ended without resolution last month. In the year’s most closely watched legal proceedings, the jury, composed of six men and six women, failed to agree on whether Read was guilty of murdering her boyfriend, Boston police officer John O’Keefe, or on the two other charges against her. O’Keefe, 46, was found battered, freezing and unconscious outside a Canton, Massachusetts home on the morning of January 29th, 2022, and later pronounced dead at the hospital. At trial, the commonwealth argued Karen, drunk and upset, struck John with her SUV and abandoned him in a snowstorm. Karen’s defense maintained her innocence, alleging that John was killed by fellow law enforcement officers during a house party and that Karen Read was framed by those officers. The live-streamed trial was a rollercoaster with all the drama of a Hollywood script: a police cover-up, misconduct, misogynistic and highly unprofessional text messages from the lead detective, a potential love triangle, lies, and betrayal. Millions were glued to the story, especially in New England, where papers referred to it as “Boston’s trial of the century.” What happens next is anyone’s guess as the story is far from over. 21 Feb 2024Introducing The Devil Within: A Season in Hell00:05:47
Check out The Devil Within: A Season in Hell. A series of random shootings, targeting young women with dark hair, causes panic in New York City. Twenty-four year old postal worker David Berkowitz, an admitted Satanist, would later claim his neighbors dog was possessed by a demon that was ordering him to kill. The police were powerless to help, so much so that they reached out to the Mafia for assistance in getting the killer, known as The Son of Sam, off the streets. The Devil Within: A Season in Hell explores what led to the murder spree: economic conditions on the city, a mentally disturbed young man, dwindling resources across the state… and a blackout that led to the worst riots in a generation. At 5:24 am on Sunday, May 22, 2016, a 9-9-9 operator responded to a call from someone reporting a person who wasn’t breathing. The caller told the 9-9-9 operator that her daughter’s partner had collapsed. When emergency medical personnel reached the home, they found Lyndsey Vaux unresponsive and not breathing. Lyndsey Vaux died not long after the 9-9-9 call. Investigators could have never been prepared for the information they would learn about the events leading up to Lyndsey’s death. Lyndsey’s story involves domestic violence and coercive control in their most extreme forms. Listener discretion is strongly advised. 26 Jun 2023Best of MURDERISH - E16 The Hendricks Murders00:52:50
In November of 1983, a mother and her three children were found “hacked to death” in their Bloomington, Illinois family home. The prime suspect was the husband and father of the victims, David Hendricks. The prosecution would have you believe that David’s religion and desire to pursue other women were motives for the murders. The defense argued that the murders occurred as part of a robbery committed by an intruder, whose bloody footprint was found inside the home. After two trials, a final verdict was reached …and not everyone agrees that justice was served.  Let’s get social: Follow MURDERISH on Instagram & TikTok @MurderishPodcast. We’re also on Facebook. He went to the closest store, S&S Liquor Store, located at 703 N. Clinton Street in Bloomington-Normal Illinois. Anderson grabbed a six-pack and headed home for the strategy session. Just two to three minutes later, after having made it only a few blocks, Anderson’s pager went off, alerting him to go back to S&S Liquor Store. 07 Dec 2023Tupac Shakur: “New Developments, Old Suspect” | MURDERISH Ep. 15000:56:58
Iconic rapper Tupac Shakur, in his lyrics and persona, foreshadowed his own violent end. Tupac’s bold, brash and fearless demeanor earned him a legion of fans, but it also made him a target. Whether intentional or not, Tupac's “thug life” mantra blurred the lines between Hollywood gangsters and real ones, a threshold from which there was no turning back. Now, nearly 30 years after the prolific rapper was gunned down in a hail of bullets near the Las Vegas Strip, the public may finally get confirmation of the men and the motive behind one of music’s greatest mysteries: Who killed Tupac Shakur? Why did it take authorities over 25 years to file charges in such a high-profile case when so many apparently already knew who was responsible? Who were they trying to protect? And what’s changed? 23 May 2022Jill & Kirstie Foster: Familicide丨MURDERISH Ep. 11001:03:01
When a family’s financial situation drastically improves, temptation can lurk around every corner. And sometimes, outward appearances completely obscure a less glamorous reality. Chris Foster of Lancashire, England had known a working-class lifestyle for most of his adulthood. In 1997, though, fortune suddenly smiled upon him. At 39 years old, following a monumental tragedy, Foster invented and patented a product that would revolutionize the global oil and gas industries. In a darkly ironic twist, oil would play a major role in the unthinkable crimes he committed in 2008. His crimes shocked all of Britain and made headlines, as far as Australia, for years to come. 24 Jan 2022Hae Min Lee: Part 2 | MURDERISH Ep. 10101:05:48
In Part 1 of this case, we left off with the prosecution concluding their case at Adnan’s second trial. The State called numerous witnesses to testify. One of the most notable was Abe Warnowitz, an AT&T Engineer who testified regarding cell phone calls made from and received on Adnan’s cell phone, which was in Jay’s possession on the day Hae went missing. The jury also heard from the State’s star witness, Jay Wilds, who testified that Adnan told him he killed Hae and convinced him to help bury her body. Though some of the calls Jay testified about seemed to show up in the right place on Adnan’s cell phone call log, some of his sworn statements were contradicted by other witnesses' testimony as well as Jay’s own statements to law enforcement. As the defense began presenting their case at trial, everyone likely believed that this case was nearing its end. The trial would come to an end soon, but this case was far from over. In time, the world would come to know Hae Min Lee and Adnan Syed’s names as the case was highlighted on a wildly successful podcast, called Serial. After Serial was released, new information came to light that called into question numerous aspects of the case, from potential missteps or misconduct in the investigation, to possible mistakes and wrongdoing on behalf of the defense and prosecution. Today, Hae Min Lee’s murder case is arguably one of most well-known and debated cases in modern history. Check us out: Visit Murderish.com for more info about the show and Creator/Host, Jami. 17 Nov 2023The Bling Ring: "Thirsty Thieves" | Serial Streamers TV Club01:27:24
In this episode of Serial Streamers, Jami brings on a VERY special guest …her best friend since eighth grade, Jessi! Jami and Jessi both watched The Real Bling Ring: Hollywood Heist on Netflix beforehand, and they share their spicy opinions about the docuseries in this hilarious episode. The ladies also share their own personal experiences with petty crime, as they committed a few together back in their teenage years (allegedly). Jessi calls Jami out for being the “mastermind” of their shenanigans back in the day, and Jami reveals her softer side as she shares her experience being a teenage mom whose child needed surgery to treat a life-threatening medical condition. The ladies laughed, cried, and they definitely brought the humor with their commentary on this docuseries.  Follow Jami on Instagram & TikTok @JamiOnAir …and join the Serial Streamers true crime TV club! Losing a loved one to a violent crime creates a sense of loss few of us can fathom. But what if the investigation involves an entire family that simply vanishes? Could the truth become so muddled that an innocent man is pegged as their killer? When Joseph and Summer McStay, along with their two toddlers, went missing from their California home in February of 2010 no one knew what to think. Several aspects of the preceding investigation left behind a great deal of unanswered questions.   Become a MURDERISH | Behind the Mic member. Sheree Warren left her job in Salt Lake City on a mild October evening in 1985. She told a coworker she was headed to meet her estranged husband, Charles Warren, at a car dealership. But she never made it, Sheree vanished. When her car mysteriously surfaced weeks later, hundreds of miles away in Las Vegas, no one could say how it got there.   When a young mother disappears under unexplained circumstances, police always turn suspicious eyes towards the husband. 20 May 2024Karen Read: “The Crime that Broke Boston” | MURDERISH Ep. 16201:01:33
On January 29, 2022, Karen Read dropped off her boyfriend, John O’Keefe, at a house party in Canton, Massachusetts. When she awoke the next morning and found John not in bed, Karen became concerned. She drove around looking for him and eventually made her way to 34 Fairview Rd., the location of the house-party where she’d taken him earlier that morning. Karen screamed upon seeing John’s body lying in the front yard of the home, unconscious and covered in snow. John O’Keefe was dead. A murder investigation ensued, with Karen Read being the primary target. Karen’s defense, however, had a different theory. They posited that John O’Keefe was killed by someone who’d attended the party, and several partygoers, all members of law enforcement, helped to cover up the crime.  Follow Jami on Instagram & TikTok @JamiOnAir and join the Serial Streamers true crime TV club! He was a kind-hearted, caring guy with a sentimental side. He was a football player who maintained good grades in school. Justin shared his plans to escape the lifestyle he was living with his close friend, Suzi. Sadly, Justin had no idea that he only had a few more weeks to live after sharing his plans with Suzi. 01 Oct 2018Josh Mankiewicz, “Bad Boy” of Dateline | MURDERISH Ep. 01901:21:14
This is a very special episode featuring none other than True Crime Legend, Josh Mankiewicz of Dateline NBC. My good friend, Kari Martin of White Wine True Crime podcast, and I got together with Manks and recorded this episode. We talked about murder, relationships, Dateline episodes, Scott Peterson, childhood …and Eminem even came up during our convo. At the end of the episode, you’re going to hear a little ditty that Kari and I wrote and performed for Josh. Once this episode airs, any dignity and self-respect Kari and I had will have been flushed down the toilet. But I have to say, it was welllllll worth it. MURDERISH now has a Patreon page! 13 Jan 2025Jorge Torres Jr.: "Death by Suitcase" | MURDERISH Ep. 17801:06:31
February 23, 2020, was just another day in the lives of Jorge Torres and Sarah Boone—a day filled with aimless hours, empty routines, and drinking. Only this day, a seemingly harmless game of hide-and-seek would turn deadly. The murder weapon: a suitcase. Jorge Torres took his last breath stuck inside of a suitcase as Sarah Boone slept upstairs.  Video footage captured by Sarah that fateful evening shocked the nation and became key evidence during her trial. A jury would have to decide whether Jorge’s death was murder, self-defense, or simply a tragic error.  Follow Jami on Instagram & TikTok @JamiOnAir and join the Serial Streamers true crime TV club! 28 Oct 2018DJ Fickey, Seeking Justice | MURDERISH Ep. 2001:03:55
A series of three calls came into Walker County 9-1-1 the afternoon of October 3, 2016. The caller said a man shot himself and they needed an ambulance. A woman can be heard wailing and screaming in the background …she’s hysterical. An officer arrives on scene shortly after the third call was finished, and an investigation ensued. However, according to the victim’s family, a bungled investigation, misinformation in official reports, lying witnesses and the fact that all witnesses, and the victim, were drug users …led to an incorrect determination of the manner of death. The victim’s family strongly believes a killer is free and no justice has been served in this case. Join me as I tell the story of Donald Edward Fickey, Jr (“DJ”). MURDERISH now has a Patreon page! 04 Jul 2022Alexander Urtula: “The Power of Words” | MURDERISH Ep. 11300:49:13
In 2015, 17-year-old Michelle Carter was indicted on charges connected to the suicide of her 18-year-old boyfriend, Conrad Roy Jr III. In a controversial 2017 trial, a Taunton, Massachusetts jury found her guilty of involuntary manslaughter. A similar case occurred in May 2019, though it received much less publicity. Boston College students Inyoung You and her boyfriend Alexander Urtula had been dating for 18 months when he died by suicide. An investigation would uncover an abundance of abusive text messages from Inyoung in the months leading up to Alexander’s death. The Carter and You cases involved problematic text messages that many argue are what drove both victims in these cases to end their lives. But where does free will end and the power of suggestion take over? Is it possible to brainwash someone into ending their own life? Let’s see if we get any closer to answers as we explore Alexander Urtula’s case in this episode of MURDERISH. Check us out: Visit Murderish.com for more info about the show and Creator/Host, Jami. It seems like everyone is wearing an Apple Watch or FitBit to count steps and reach health goals. In the case we examine in this episode, the victim’s wearable technology was actually used as a tool to try to solve her murder. Two days before Christmas in 2015, 39-year-old mother of two Connie Dabat was found shot to death in her Connecticut home. As detectives scrambled for answers, a small device worn on her hip was key in learning the truth about her death. 15 Jan 2024 Grady Stiles Jr. “The Dark Side of Lobster Boy” | MURDERISH Ep. 15300:52:44
Grady Stiles Jr. came from a long line of sideshow performers who had a genetic condition known as ectrodactyly. When this defect occurs in the womb, the middle digits of the hand and foot are missing and the remaining ones fuse into two parts. Grady was born with two-fingered hands that resembled lobster claws, and footless legs ending just below the knee.  Like many of his relatives, Grady capitalized on his physical defects by appearing in traveling carnivals. It’s easy to imagine that a lifetime spent as a public spectacle could be emotionally taxing. But Grady had a coping mechanism: alcohol. For Grady, drinking heavily blurred out the pain of ridicule and rejection. Unfortunately, alcohol also made him incredibly mean and violent. This tendency toward violence would manifest into murder, with Grady being the perpetrator. Later, the man known as “Lobster Boy” would find himself on the other side of murder …falling victim to two bullets in the back of his head.
