The majority of the interviewees described their jobs as highly demanding, exhausting, and chaotic, and they seemed to take for granted that working long hours was necessary for their professional success. However, about 30% of the men and 50% of women in our sample appeared to consciously resist working long hours, describing a variety of strategies they developed for maintaining a healthier work-life balance. While the details of every individual case differed, our study suggested a common mental process that consistently helped this group of professionals to change the way they worked — and lived — for the better.

An 11-year-old braveheart from Mumbai has been making and selling soaps online to help other children fight cancer. Battling lymphoblastic leukemia, Nia Nariman is aiming to raise a sum of Rs 10 lakh on Give India, to be used towards cancer treatment for underprivileged children.Nia’s initiative stands testament to the sheer grit and determination that is displayed at a young age. When Express Parenting reached out to Zia, the mother-daughter duo were in the hospital for a round of Nia’s chemotherapy. The single mother confessed, “My mother, Nia’s grandmother, has been my pillar of strength.”

She added, “My daughter is continuing with her soap-making business, studies, and school as best as she can. She’s a vivacious child, always curious about new things, always learning something unique. She skateboards, snowboards, sings and enjoys art as well.”

Chandigarh, November 7

With the Centre slashing excise duty on petrol and diesel, the Punjab Government also announced a reduction in VAT on the fuels on Sunday, making them cheaper in the state by Rs 10 per litre and Rs 5 per litre, respectively.

The decision was taken at a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi.

The new rates will be effective from midnight.

The Chief Minister made the announcement while addressing the media after the Cabinet meeting.  

The retail price of petrol in the state will be Rs 96.16 per litre and for diesel it will be Rs 84.80 a litre.

Finance Minister Manpreet Badal said the reduction in VAT on the fuels is estimated to cause a revenue loss of Rs 900 crore to the state.

 Two-Wheeler, Pillion Riders Will Face "These" Actions If Found Sans Helmet

Mumbai traffic police issued a notification making helmets mandatory for pillion riders on May 25. The traffic police officials have further warned action against those who violate the rule. “Persons riding a 2-wheeler i.e both the rider and pillion are hereby urged to wear a helmet. As per MVA, action will be taken in case of violation of this rule for pillion riders as well. We will start implementing after 15 days from now,” read the tweet of Mumbai Traffic Police. 

The rule will come into effect after 15 days, following which the traffic authorities will start taking action against violators, an official said. As per the notification, the traffic police have found that most two-wheeler riders in the city do not wear helmets and violate traffic norms.

The Indian farm reforms of 2020 refer to three agricultural bills passed by the Parliament of India on 27 September 2020. The bills collectively seek to provide farmers with multiple marketing channels and provide a legal framework for farmers to enter into pre-arranged contracts among other things. The three laws are the Farmers' Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, the Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, which came into effect following the approval of President Ram Nath Kovind.

Protests against the acts picked up in September 2020, particularly in Punjab and Haryana, where farmers have been at the forefront.

Afsana started her street school ‘Pehchaan’ in September 2014 adjacent to a road leading to a slum under Ghansoli Bridge in sector-1. “If we want to uplift the underprivileged and stop these crimes, education is the only answer. And education is possible by being among them as if we were one of their own. Slum kids do not want to be given donations from NGOs or groups of individuals. They want respect, dignity and a place in the society. And we ought to give them their place.” said Afsana

According to the System of Air Quality & Weather Forecasting & Research (SAFAR), Delhi's air quality continued to be in the 'very poor' category for the fourth consecutive day.

"Delhi's air quality has worsened for a few days. People should not go to crowded places and go out in the sun. They should also use N95 marks for their protection," Sarin said, as quoted by news agency ANI.

"People should not go out early in the morning and late at night to avoid pollution," she added.

Authorities are scrambling to combat the air pollution crisis, with the Commission on Air Quality Management (CAQM) widening the curbs across NCR late Tuesday. It extended the ban on construction and demolition activities, and offline classes in Delhi to all cities in the NCR. Entry of all trucks, except those carting essential commodities, have also been banned till November 21.

An increasing number of migrants were moving to Bombay from different parts of the country, and fast food and canteens were not prevalent. All these people left early in the morning for offices, and often had to go hungry for lunch. They belonged to different communities, and therefore had different types of tastes, which could only be satisfied by their own home-cooked meals. So, in 1890, Mahadeo Havaji Bachche started a lunch delivery service in Bombay with about a hundred men. This proved to be successful, and the service grew from there. In 1930, he informally attempted to unionize the dabbawalas. A day after the World Health Organization (WHO) classified a new strain of the novel coronavirus, B.1.1.529, as a “variant of concern” Omicron, the Mumbai civic body has introduced new restrictions for international passengers arriving in the city and sounded “extreme vigilance” in the regard. According to the latest guidelines issued by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), international passengers travelling from or transiting through South Africa, Hong Kong and Botswana — the three countries where Omicron has been detected — will have to undergo mandatory RT-PCR tests at the Mumbai Airport. If a traveller tests positive for Covid-19, they will be sent to institutional quarantine and the samples will be sent for genome sequencing. Until recently, a passenger testing positive was sent to home quarantine. All passengers arriving at the Mumbai airport will have to get their passport scrutinised at the immigration counter for travel history of the last two weeks.

National Fire Service Week 2022, Observed by Mumbai Fire Brigade

National Fire Service Week was observed  by Mumbai Fire Brigade to observe homage and Pay respect to the outstanding martyr’s firefighters for their incredible commitment and sacrifice at the Mumbai Dockyard, Victoria Docks fire incident April 14, 1944.
The day began with our Team visiting the Bombay Dockyard Site on the 14th April observing  a moment of Silence at Fire Service Memorial, Victoria docks.  The Chairman, MBPA paid homage to brave Fire fighters by laying a wreath at Memorial.
We headed towards the MFB Headquarters in Byculla where in the Fire Brigade prayed the Homage to the Martyred brave hearts Firefighters of the Victoria Doc Fire. With an Exclusive display of Band and a display wall with all the Martyred names.
The Event began with the lighting of the lamb and felicitation of the chief guest, Ad. Commissioner & Dy. Commissioner of Greater Mumbai Municipal Corporation, Director MFS, CFO MFB, CFO MPT. and speech by CFO Parab and CFO CICO Mr.Warik followed by some clipings and animation by the Mumbai Fire Brigade to create and educate the public with regards to Fire Safety and combating fires

Prateek Kuhad goes pop on his latest single “Just A Word,” after years of primarily being known as a folksy singer-songwriter whose weapon of choice was an acoustic guitar. The soothing song arrives with a music video that sees Kuhad as a protagonist after long and also marks the announcement of his second full-length album The Way That Lovers Do.

Kuhad said in a statement about the song, “I wanted to write something that was a bit more pop for fun, compared to my older, folksier stuff.” Among the 11 tracks off The Way That Lovers Do, “Just A Word” is Kuhad’s paciest song, unraveling a wholly different vocal cadence from the artist best known for songs like “Cold/Mess,” “Kasoor” and “Tum Jab Paas.” The newest lot of songs were recorded at Bear Creek Studios in Seattle with producer Ryan Hadlock, best known for his work with indie/folk favorites The Lumineers’ self-titled album (2012) and singer-songwriter Vance Joy’s Dream Your Life Away (2014). The singer-songwriter added about the album, “Being at Bear Creek and working quite solitary, I worked with a lot of sounds and production techniques that were new for me. This record feels like the most ‘me’ in that sense – it really is exactly what I wanted to do.”

Mumbai police commissioner Sanjay Pandey announced that citizens are no longer required to visit police stations for passport verification except in rare cases.

“We have decided no citizen will be called to police station in Mumbai except in exceptional cases of documents being incomplete etc. If not followed do report,” the police commissioner stated in a tweet on Saturday.

On the question of how would the process of police verification will complete, Pandey said that from now police constable would visit the house and complete the process required for the issue of passport.

Bambai Nazariya is a socially inclusive Chai house in Jeet Nagar, Versova, Andheri West, Mumbai, and is run by transgender employees. If we go by reports, from chef to services, everyone here is from the transgender community and the two-month-old café is all set to bring a change in society.

“Nazariya badlo, nazaara badlega” seems to be the indicated slogan of the cafe which makes complete sense. The place seems very homely and gives a very warm vibe. According to the video, the cafe is also popular for its 'pink chai' and other authentic Bambai style dishes. The food is cooked by the transgender community and every employee there greets you with a smile on their face.

Noor has been part of the tournament played at world’s highest natural rink ‘Karzoo’ which is an irrigation pond in the summer at a height of 11,500 feet (3,484 m). While ice hockey is an indoor sport most parts of the world, in Leh, December-January is the only time that it can be seriously pursued in the region.

“It has been more than three weeks since Urja Supermarket was opened to the public,” stated Dr. Mihir Parekh. The youngsters are still learning how to run the store, and things are picking up.

The activity held at this mart are for training purposes & to better their future skills.

The famous tiger Waghdoh, a popular attraction at the Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve (TATR) near Nagpur, died of old age on Monday. He was arguably one of India’s oldest tigers in the wild and died at the age of 19 or 20 years. Waghdoh was also arguably one of the biggest tigers in India. But some wildlife lovers are of the opinion that the tigers of Dudhwa National Park and Jim Corbett National Park are bigger.
