But that’s not Daphne Maxwell Reid, who continues to thrive as a creative entrepreneur and artist, continuing to dazzle anyone who knows her with her bold spirit, grace, and work ethic. One of the first African-American women to make the cover of Glamour magazine and one of television history’s most beloved sitcom moms, Reid now balances her acting gigs with her work as a photographic artist, clothing designer, and education activist, demonstrating that it’s never too late to pursue new passions and find new opportunities.
When she attended Northwestern University a half-century ago, Daphne Maxwell became the prestigious school’s first African-American homecoming queen; but that was just the first of many barriers that Maxwell broke in her career, arriving into the industry at just the right moment as a new perspective on race was emerging in the wake of the civil rights movement. “Being among the first of a few black women to work in popular television reminds me that one doesn’t choose to be a pioneer,” she says today. “One does what comes next in their journey, and sometimes you happen to be the first to do it. I just happened to land in that slot of being first for some things – but being the first doesn’t mean anything if it doesn’t seed the growth of a lot more. I’m pleased that my seed bore fruit, and now there are so many more black homecoming queens and cover models and actresses in popular entertainment.”

Marielle Woods is an award-winning, queer filmmaker who thrives in the high-stakes world of action storytelling. She pushes emotional buttons and visual boundaries, telling stories that make audiences think — with a few explosions and car chases along the way.
After receiving her BA from Harvard in 2008, Woods moved west and has been working as an LA-based director and producer ever since. She got her start in docudrama television, crafting shows for networks including Discovery, History, A&E and Animal Planet. She cut her teeth filming gunfights, avalanches and animal attacks, traveling around the globe in pursuit of good stories. Now, she lives every week like it's Shark Week.
Determined to move into the scripted world, Woods cold-called and warm-emailed her way to observing on FAST & FURIOUS 6 and CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER. Shortly thereafter, she transitioned a similar shadowing opportunity into a hired position assisting the stunt team on JOHN WICK: CHAPTER TWO. She then moved up to become a Stunt Department Coordinator, and spent almost a decade working with some of the best Stunt Coordinators and Second Unit Directors in the business on projects including BABY DRIVER, BRIGHT, and WESTWORLD.
Woods’ short films have toured the festival circuit with acceptances including LA Shorts Fest, Montreal World Film Festival, Cleveland International Film Festival, Cinequest, Rhode Island Flickers, Santa Barbara International Film Festival, and NBCU Short Cuts. She flipped a car in the jungles of Puerto Rico for her short, MI CORAZON, and recreated war-torn Iraq on a soundstage in Culver City for her 2018 film, DO NO HARM. In 2019, Woods turned sign-spinning into a martial art for her AFI DWW film, SPIN.
Woods has been recognized as a member of the AFI Directing Workshop for Women, the Universal Directors Initiative and the HBOAccess Directing Fellowship. She has directed episodes for Seasons 4 & 5 of COBRA KAI for Netflix and Sony TV. Her original queer-action-romance, HEART SHOT, made as part of Netflix's Emerging Filmmakers Initiative, is streaming worldwide on Netflix.
Currently, Woods is in development on a number of original action projects spanning a range of genres and tones. She is working to create “non-binary” filmmaking – blending the emotional resonance that some might deem “feminine” with the societally assigned “masculinity” of the action genre.
Welcome, Marielle Woods.

Director of photography Natalie Kingston is continually inspired by the collaborative process of creating a distinct visual language for each film she shoots. Her work is always informed by the story and rooted in emotion.
Kingston’s latest work can be seen in Black Bird, the upcoming Apple TV+ crime drama releasing on streaming services July 8.
Starring Taron Egerton, Paul Houser, Ray Liotta and Greg Kinnear in the true-to-life tale of James Keene, a prisoner befriending infamous serial killer Larry Hall to extract information in exchange for early parole, the series brought Kingston’s perspective to a disturbingly intimate relationship between the two inmates.

The relationship of Diana and Charles, the Prince and Princess of Wales, was tabloid fodder for nearly two decades, the subject of almost daily headlines in the 24-hour news cycle. The Princess draws solely from contemporaneous archival audio and video footage to take audiences back to key events in Diana’s life as they happened, including their seemingly fairy-tale public courtship and wedding, the birth of their two sons, their bitter divorce, and Diana’s tragic and untimely death on August 31, 1997.
Intensely emotional, The Princess is a visceral submersion into Diana’s life in the constant and often intrusive glare of the media spotlight. The film unfolds as if it were in the present, allowing viewers to experience the overwhelming adoration, but also intense scrutiny of Diana’s every move and the constant judgement of her character. Through archival material, the film is also a reflection of society at the time, revealing the public’s own preoccupations, fears, aspirations, and desires. The film debut coincides with the 25th anniversary of Princess Diana’s tragic death.
HBO Documentary Films presents The Princess, in association with SKY, produced by Lightbox. Directed by Ed Perkins; produced by Simon Chinn and Jonathan Chinn; editors, Jinx Godfrey and Daniel Lapira; co-producer, Vanessa Tovell. For HBO: coordinating producer, Anna Klein; executive producers, Nancy Abraham and Lisa Heller. The Princess had its world premiere at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival.

As someone who has loved the Karate Kid since 1984, Kenny Payne is my favorite of the new generation characters. His storyline, his depth and what Dallas brings to the screen is nothing short of amazing. Walking a path very similar to Daniel LaRusso, Kenny's storyline is fantastic.
A few topics Dallas and I touch upon:
1. Dallas's father is Eric Young Sr. a former 15 year Major League baseball player and current First Base Coach of the Atlanta Braves.
2. What it's like for Dallas to go to school, trying to be a normal kid living with Cobra Kai fame.
3. Why Kenny Payne should be the next Karate Kid.
4. Why Kenny Payne should never let up on Anthony LaRusso. Ever.
5. My theory that Samantha and Anthony LaRusso are two of the biggest bullies in Cobra Kai and considering who their dad is this is ironic.
This and so much more. I loved speaking with Dallas. It has been a conversation I have been looking forward to for a long time.
Episode 355. "Inception" and "Avatar" Actor: Dileep Rao.
Dileep Rao is an actor, a Jeopardy Champion (January 2002) and just a really good human being.
You can find him in "Drag Me to Hell", "Avatar", "Avatar" The Way of Water" (currently in theaters) and as Yusuf, The Chemist in Christopher Nolan's "Inception" starring along Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hardy.
We had a wonderful conversation talking about:
1. The process of Christopher Nolan and James Cameron. How they vary in their approach.
2. We talk a bit about his beloved Denver Broncos.
3. Dileep's experience as a Jeopardy Champion.
4. Toxic fan bases (Star Wars, Marvel, DC) and how far is too far.
5. What it was like to be in an iconic cast (Inception) AND on a movie poster to boot!
This and so much more. Truly hope you enjoy this interview. I certainly did. Very enjoyable conversation. Dileep is a really talented, bright and a thought out person.
