31 Aug 2017 | When You're Awake and Alone | 00:05:05
"There have been nights when I have felt alone while nursing in quiet in the dark. My husband is sound asleep, the dog is sound asleep, all of my friends and family are sound asleep, everyone on social media is asleep, and yet here I am. Awake and alone. Tending to my baby. These moments are hidden from the world. Its just her and I. And it can be tempting to feel isolated and unnoticed. Maybe this sounds all too familiar to you right now. Maybe you're still in the thick of things with me, waking up far more often than you'd like, taking care of your little one while the rest of the world remains oblivious..." Press play to hear more. 31 Aug 2017 | When You Forget Why You're a Mom | 00:05:14
"When you're in this season of sameness, with a little baby who relies on you day in and day out, it's easy to forget the eternal significance of motherhood. Especially since we have yet to see the fruits of our labor. Our little ones can't grasp that there's a God who loves them just yet, so we hide those truths away in our hearts until the right time comes. But despite our inability to fully walk out what it means to teach our children biblical truths and the love of God, there is still a beautiful God-given purpose for the diaper changes, late night feedings, and sweet moments spent in the rocking chair..." 06 Sep 2017 | When You Don't Feel Like Yourself | 00:05:08
"I know what it's like to not feel like yourself. I know how overwhelming it can be to have these hormones coursing through your body and to have to adjust to this new lifestyle revolving around the baby. I know how it can affect your marriage to the point where you wonder if it'll even keep working and how easy it is to reminisce on the days when you were more stable, less sleep deprived, and in control. You start to ask yourself, will I ever feel normal and be in that place again? I don't know how long it'll take to adjust for you or me. I'm definitely still working on it. I have good days and bad days. But what I've come to learn is that even when I don't feel like myself, God knows who I am and he is able to remind me and keep me grounded in the truth..." 13 Sep 2017 | When You're Hurting | 00:05:34
"Sometimes it feels like my heart is breaking when I see my baby crying over something I can't fix or control. This week she has a tooth breaking through and I can tell it's distressing her, and watching those big crocodile tears roll down her cheeks makes me so, so sad. She doesn't understand the pain she's feeling, the changes that she is going through. To her it just hurts. That's all she knows, and so there's no stopping the tears. I can't count the number of times I have been in those same shoes, shedding tears over something that I can't understand, only knowing that I'm in pain and thinking it won't ever go away. My first heartbreak. Loneliness. Rejection. Painful childhood memories. Waiting. Loss." Press play to hear more. 20 Sep 2017 | When You're In Need | 00:05:22
"When we first brought our little one home from the hospital, I had no idea what she wanted. Is she crying from hunger? From gas? From over stimulation? But over time I have become so intimately acquainted with her that I now know exactly what makes her smile and what makes her fuss. I know the difference between her hunger cry and her scared cry and her tired cry. I know when she's nursing for hunger or just nursing for comfort. I know how to calm her down when she bumps her head or falls over. I even know the faces she makes when she's pooping! I know my baby's needs better than she knows them herself and I love that I'm able to meet many of those needs for her. Lately I've been reminded that the Lord knows us and feels the same way about us too. Sometimes that thought scares me. Being fully known is an intimidating thing. There have been many times when I have convinced myself it's better to try to ignore or hide from the Lord rather than run to him, even though he knows exactly what my aching soul needs and he is the only one who can provide it." 04 Oct 2017 | When You Feel Out of Control | 00:05:24
"I know at some point or another you will have or already have had one of those days where you just lose it. We all do. You're trying to put the baby down for a nap or get them to stop crying for the hundredth time and nothing is working. And it hits you, almost like a cold slap to the face, that you're not in control. In fact you're so out of control that you start to wonder if you can even do this. Survive the day. Get through the night. Do this whole motherhood thing. Today was one of those days for me. And when I first saw how things were beginning to spiral out of control within my very own home, I found myself asking the question, What AM I in control of? Because I'm certainly not in control of this crying baby who's skipping her nap or the husband who doesn't quite know the right things to do or say. And I don't even think I'm in control of myself because I have these emotions, especially this anger, that rises up in me, and there's just no stopping it..." Press play to hear more. 11 Oct 2017 | When the Baby Won't Stop Crying | 00:06:11
"We somehow get it in our heads that we should be able to do this on our own, that we should be able to get through the day without needing God. We want things to go smoothly, to be perfect. We want to be the best possible mom or wife. And when we are faced with our humanity and all the weaknesses and flaws that come with it, we crumble apart rather than see it for the humbling reminder of our need for God that it truly is. Which is in his design for our relationship with him. It is good that we need him. And so it turns out that the days of frustration and desperation are perfect training ground for us to learn how to lean into him as he calls us to do, running to the Lord with our needs to receive his love and peace and help..." 19 Oct 2017 | When You're Asked to Be Brave | 00:05:50
"I don't know what the Lord is calling you to do these days. Maybe it's just to wake up every morning and love on your sweet baby, to pick up your cross through picking up your child and doing the hard work of mothering and nurturing Day in and day out. Maybe he's calling you to make a change in your marriage or friendships or to pursue a ministry within your community or church. Whatever it is, I want to encourage you with this. 25 Oct 2017 | When You Forget How Loved You Are | 00:05:07
"My baby just turned one and I'll admit that I was a little caught off guard by how many emotions I felt about it at the time. I especially had this strange sorrow that I couldn't quite put my finger on at first. Eventually I realized that my heart was heavy with longing. A longing for my daughter to grasp just how deeply I love her and how much I have treasured every day I have spent with her. I so badly wanted her to know that even on the worst days, I have delighted in being her mom and getting to call her my baby. It has been my greatest privilege to care for her, to watch her grow, and to be her source of comfort, peace, and love. As I contemplated and felt these things, my heart burned with the knowledge that this is how the Lord thinks of us too..." Press play to hear more. 01 Nov 2017 | When Breastfeeding is Hard | 00:05:50
"If you're in those early, early stages of figuring out breastfeeding, I feel for you. I remember those days so, so well. I remember it took a few painful weeks, multiple visits to the lactation consultation, a case of mastitis and a lot of tears to even begin to get the hang of it. And even after a few months, I was still navigating confusion about my supply, a fussy baby not wanting to be still during feedings, and an overall weariness from the cluster feedings and waking up to nurse multiple times a night. When I say I understand how difficult breastfeeding can be, I really do mean it. It's easy to get wrapped up in what our bodies can and cannot do, whether they're performing the way we expect them to and providing for our babies the way we hope they will. It can be stressful and easy to beat ourselves up when we are facing difficulties with breastfeeding, which I know most women do at some point or other in their breastfeeding journey..." 08 Nov 2017 | When Your Strength is Lost | 00:04:28
"We had a rough week recently. A stomach bug traveled through our home, affecting me, my sweet baby, and then my husband. This sickness on top of first trimester tiredness and aching legs was almost enough to send me over the edge. I somehow found the strength to get through each day and care for my family, yet it seemed as though exhaustion was always threatening to overwhelm me. During this time I cried out to God a lot because I knew that he saw me in my sickness and weakness. And I couldn't help but wonder, does he even care? As someone who has a hard time believing in randomness or coincidences, I started to think that maybe this crummy week was meant to teach me something or grow me in some way. But I didn't want to be taught. I didn't want to grow. I just wanted to feel better and be better instead of being laid up in bed when I should be caring for my baby or laying wide awake at night in pain, helpless and weary..." Press play to hear more. 15 Nov 2017 | When You Lose Sight of What Matters | 00:05:08
"Last week, yesterday, or maybe just an hour ago, you may have felt some sorrow or guilt over mistakes you had made. Maybe you meant to spend more time with your family, but the day got away from you. Maybe you wanted to be fully present, but social media and Netflix were just too tempting. Maybe you wanted to create a pleasant evening for your husband, but your focus on the baby somehow spoiled it. Mama, there is so much redemption found in Jesus. And even though there is something so beautiful about the rising sun and the idea of a brand new day, there is grace to be found minute by minute, moment by moment. We don't have to wait until morning to have hope and receive the Lord's joy..." Press play to hear more. This is the final podcast episode until 2018 and also the first episode featuring a special guest: my sweet, amazing (and sometimes goofy) husband, Grant! I had a blast recording this episode with him and I'm excited to share it with you all today! Happy listening, and happy Thanksgiving! 16 Jan 2018 | When It's a New Year | 00:05:58
"If you’re like me, you kicked off 2018 with a list of goals and dreams for the coming year, things you hoped to accomplish or get better at, things that you didn’t quite manage to succeed with in 2017. The beauty of a new year is that it gives us hope. Hope that change will come. But if you’re like me, you also quickly realized that change takes time. You’ve already messed up in several areas. The things you planned to set in motion still haven’t taken off. You’re a little disappointed that you didn’t wake up in 2018 as a completely different person..." Click play to hear more. 22 Jan 2018 | When God Seems Silent | 00:08:56
"If I'm being honest, I think I do have a hard time believing that God loves me enough to talk to me. And when I dive a little further into my thought processes and beliefs about this, I realize that I carry a lot of fear in my heart when it comes to my relationship with the Lord. Like if he's not revealing something big to me or showing up in my life in some grand way, then I fear that I'm doing something wrong and he's disappointed in me. I confuse his silence for distance, and I wonder if he's distant from me in order to punish me because maybe I'm not as diligent in prayer as I think I should be or I'm too easily distracted by all I have going on. Maybe you think and feel similar things, and if so, I want to offer some words of truth and wisdom for the both of us today. The truth is the Lord is not hiding from you. He's not trying to tease or trick you or even punish you. He does want to speak to you. But it's in the still, small voice that he wants to speak..." Press play to hear more. 29 Jan 2018 | When You're Facing a Trial | 00:07:09
"We are invited in the midst of our trials to seek wisdom and clarity from the Lord. This honestly isn't always my first thought or action when I'm facing difficulty in my life. Sometimes I wonder if God just wants me to figure it all out on my own. But this passage says otherwise. We are promised that we will receive wisdom when we ask for it in faith. And after giving some thought to how this has played out in my life through past experience, I've realized that there have been many times when God has met me in the middle of my struggles to give me the wisdom I'm looking for, whether it's an immediate, practical solution or just a reminder to keep my eyes fixed on him. But perhaps the best wisdom of all comes in the form of his gentle voice reminding us, 'beloved one, this is making you more like my Son.'" Press play to hear more. 07 Feb 2018 | When You're Facing Nights Alone | 00:05:55
"I don’t know about you, but sometimes when the nights are rough and I’m up way longer than I had hoped to be, I find myself crying out to the Lord for help and strength. But honestly, what I’m longing for most isn’t necessarily for more sleep (although, of course that would be VERY much appreciated), but rather that I would just feel his presence beside me so I could know that I’m not alone in this. I don’t want to bear this burden alone. I wish I could say that I always feel the comfort of the Lord in these moments, but there are many times when I don’t. After the baby is finally asleep again, I climb back into bed feeling a weight of sorrow because even though I won this battle, I’m already worn down and I know there’s still more up ahead. I wonder how long the Lord will allow this sleeplessness to continue and whether it really is for my good and for his glory..." Press play to hear more. 19 Feb 2018 | When You Dread the Day Ahead | 00:06:38
"Have you ever had a morning where every fiber of your being begged you to stay in bed? No matter how much you knew you needed to start your day, you just couldn't bear the thought of putting your feet on the ground. If you're in the thick of motherhood, then odds are you haven't just had one morning like this, but have had many. 26 Feb 2018 | Soul Care for the New Mom | 00:11:32
This episode is a reading aloud of the most recent blog post on Soul Care for the New Mom. I chose to share it as this week's podcast episode because of just how well it expresses all that I hope to communicate through Soul Care for the New Mom -- what "soul care" is all about, why it even matters, how my own wrestling in my faith as a new mom led me to discover new ways to connect with the Lord, and why it's become my passion to encourage moms in this season of motherhood! I definitely think you'll want to check out this episode! It's the perfect insight into the story behind Soul Care for the New Mom and what it means for YOU. 05 Mar 2018 | When You're an Angry Mom | 00:06:48
"I realized that even though last night was hard, and I’m sure to have more hard nights ahead, I have the power to cling to a better, more eternity-minded perspective. I know that when I get to the end of my life, I will not regret the nights spent rocking my crying child to sleep. 12 Mar 2018 | When You're Sick and Tired | 00:06:53
"This has been a rough season for a lot of us. It seems like every household has been getting hit with illness after illness, such as the nasty cold or some kind of bug or the crazy flu that's been spreading like wildfire. My own house has dealt with its fair share of sicknesses this winter, the worst of it being the week that my husband had the flu. If you keep up with the blog, then you probably saw that I wrote about this and that it really took all of me to be both mom and dad for our daughter that week. By the end of it I was completely worn down and spent. I could not wait for everyone in our house to be healthy again and for my husband to finally be back to his normal self..." 20 Mar 2018 | When You're Afraid to Dream | 00:12:32
"As moms, it's so easy to dismiss or neglect the things on our hearts. We hold back from pursuing certain dreams or passions and we keep ourselves from walking in our talents and gifts. Sometimes this really is what we ought to be doing for certain seasons in our lives, at least until there is more margin and we feel a peace from God in our Spirit to move forward and pursue these things. But then there are times when we're choosing to not pursue these things because we're afraid of letting him down or losing focus of what matters. Sometimes we're just afraid of neglecting our calling as a mom. We want to be the best moms we can be and so we somehow come to believe that that has to mean pushing everything else aside..." 02 Apr 2018 | When the Future is Uncertain | 00:06:29
"When I think about the uncertainty of the future, several things come to mind. Our sweet friends who have just begun fostering and have already experienced the ups and downs of taking in kids and then watching them go. The moms I've reached out to on Instagram who have asked for prayer for their financial situation because money is tight. My friend with a two year old who has daily seizures and has doctors still trying to figure out the right medication to give and whether it could worsen as time goes on. And I also think of me as I'm getting ready to have my second baby. I have no idea of what our lives will look like with two kiddos under the age of two and there's several unknowns, like how my husband's work schedule may change around that time and whether I'll face the same battle with postpartum rage as I did before. Even questions like, will I still feel confident and able to make it out of the house every day, has me worried and nervous..." Press play to hear more. 09 Apr 2018 | When You Don't Know How to Balance it All | 00:11:06
"Last week I sent out a message to many of my Instagram followers with the question, what’s the biggest challenge you’re facing in this season as a mom? And hands down the most popular response was about the mom guilt that comes from not knowing how to balance it all — motherhood, marriage, housework, pursuing a career, or chasing after a dream or passion. And I completely resonated with this answer. It’s so difficult to know what the right balance is and how to do what’s best for the family while maintaining a functioning household and without compromising your own needs and desires too. No matter how hard we try, a lot of us feel like we’re falling short in at least one area, if not several. And that’s where the mom guilt comes in..." Press play to hear more. 16 Apr 2018 | When You Hate Your Postpartum Body | 00:09:56
"I think there was a past naive version of many of us that liked to believe that we would be accepting of our postpartum bodies, that we would simply marvel at how it carried our sweet babies and nourished them both in the womb and beyond. We told ourselves that there would be no pressure to get the weight off, that we would give ourselves grace for the changes our bodies would endure. But if you're like me, your postpartum body lost most of its luster sometime after the 'fourth trimester.' Now it’s difficult to accept this is really how you look, how you fit, and how you jiggle. You feel hopeless and defeated. And at the same time, guilty. Because you expected better from yourself. You thought you'd rock your new body with confidence — if not for your sake, then for your someday adolescent daughters. But now you just want to hide away, go back in time to the smaller version of yourself that you had even once thought could lose a few pounds. If only we knew then how good we had it, right?..." 23 Apr 2018 | When You're Caught in the Comparison Trap | 00:07:48
"I think it’s safe to say we all feel the temptation to compare. With social media constantly in our faces, we're taking in countless messages about what motherhood could look like or ought to look like and sometimes this has a way of highlighting our own failures, differences, and inadequacies. We see skinny, active, healthy moms and well-balanced, organized, have-it-all together moms and vulnerable, bold, authentic moms, and moms who are just killing it with their side hustles as they walk in their gifts and talents and pursue their dreams. Sometimes it can be so inspiring and motivating to see these moms at their best. We think to ourselves, 'maybe I can be that, too.' But then there are times when it’s discouraging, even deflating, because we know we are so far from where they are, where we wish we could be..." Press play to hear more. 30 Aug 2018 | When You Didn't Get the Birth You Wanted | 00:08:48
“I just didn’t understand why the labor was the way it was. At the time I honestly believed that because things didn’t go my way, God must not have been on my side. But now, three months later, I see things differently and I realize that not only was he on my side, but he was by my side every step of the way. And mama, today I want you to know that he was by your side every step of the way through your little one’s birth too. I don’t know your birth story. It may be similar to mine or completely different. 05 Sep 2018 | When You're Struggling to Sit Down With God | 00:06:29
"I used to be able to sit down and have my quiet time with God for hours. Devotionals, Bible study books, journaling, a hot cup of coffee. I absolutely loved my mornings with the Lord, and I couldn’t imagine not having them. But then I had a baby, and then another one, and now I’m in this crazy season of two under two and that picture perfect "quiet time" feels like the furthest thing from attainable. At some point in my motherhood journey I was finally forced to put away my Bible, journal, and mile-long prayer list and reconsider what I thought was necessary for God to want to be a part of my life. I quit trying to have that ideal quiet time. And what I found was that I had been putting my relationship with the Lord in this box and that there was so much more to be discovered..." 12 Sep 2018 | When You Just Want to Check Out | 00:05:17
"I have a confession to make. I’m a habitual Netflix bingewatcher. It started when I was working my way through college and felt completely overwhelmed by everything on my plate, then it continued when I graduated and was both a newlywed and pregnant with no job. And then when I had my first daughter, not only did things not change, but they actually got worse! I was spending so much time breastfeeding, staying home with the baby, and staying up through the night that I continued to rely on Netflix and to an even more unhealthy degree. But then things started getting better. After months of feeling distant from God, I finally decided to turn off the TV and to begin pursuing time with him and other healthier things..." 19 Sep 2018 | When You're Filled With Regret | 00:04:08
“Today I yelled at my toddler in the middle of the grocery store and snapped at my husband for what feels like the hundredth time this week. I knew I wasn’t treating them right but I was so angry in the moment that I didn’t even care. It wasn’t until I was alone later on in the day, nursing my newborn to sleep in a dimly lit room with nothing to hear but my own thoughts that I began to feel regret and sorrow over what I had done. Why am I such an angry mom? Why am I an ungrateful wife? Why do I sometimes treat my family so poorly and forget how amazing and beautiful they are?” Press play to hear more. “To tell you the truth, I was angry at the Lord — angry that this is my life now and sometimes it feels like he’s nowhere to be found. I didn’t have these kids just to make me happy. I had these kids because I thought that this was a calling he had put on my life that would be used to bring him glory. 26 Sep 2018 | When Your Marriage is Struggling | 00:06:35
“Nothing about having a baby was more shocking to me than how much my marriage struggled afterwards. When my eldest was born I felt like I went from my husband being my whole world to my daughter being my whole world — and he could tell the difference too. I didn’t want to touch or kiss or even hug. I didn’t care about his work stories or whatever news he had read on the internet. I wasn’t interested in going on dates or even sharing the same bed. The hormones and adjustments I was going through made me more emotional than usual. More angry. More mean. And when my husband realized that nothing he was doing made things any better, he became angry and mean, too. When evening rolls around, my list usually still has so many items not checked off that I end up having to carry those things over into the next day, creating a never-ending problem of having too much on my plate. 24 Oct 2018 | When You're Fighting for Joy | 00:06:27
“I’m lacking joy these days. I can feel it. Waves of irritation and frustration and sorrow even wash over me when I least expect it. When I’m in the car with a screaming baby for twenty straight minutes. When I’m watching my toddler deliberately disobey me. When my husband forgets something I asked him to do. When my to do list just keeps getting longer and longer. There have been days where I’ve just felt lost. Even a little empty. Being a wife and mom requires so much of me. I’m always giving. 03 Oct 2018 | Special Episode: Let's Talk About Sex, Baby | 00:19:30
Today’s episode is a special one because it features my husband Grant as we have a conversation on a topic that’s been a pretty big deal to us the past two years: sex after kids. In this episode we share how our sex life has changed since having kids and the struggles we’ve faced, as well as how we’ve overcome those struggles and gotten to where we are today. We give our best advice for couples while approaching this topic from a biblical perspective because we believe that pursuing a healthy, thriving sex life should be important to every husband and wife and is very much a priority for God, too. So whether your sex life is nonexistent or alive and well, we hope this conversation is an encouragement to you! And so it turns out that the days of frustration and desperation are perfect training ground for us to learn how to lean into him as he calls us to do, running to the Lord with our needs to receive his love and peace and help..." Or maybe it looks like something different altogether. Unexpected news. Sickness. A job lay-off. Sexual temptation. Resentment. Shame and guilt. Apathy. Intrusive thoughts. Whatever the case, there is one thing I am certain of: the enemy may think he’s winning, but the truth is that Jesus has already won. 17 Feb 2020 | How to Be Empowered for Connection in Your Marriage | 00:59:30
In today’s episode I’m sharing a recording from a recent Live video I did in my Facebook community as part of my three-day Empowered Wife Workshop. You’ll be hearing more about what it means to be an empowered wife, why this matters for your marriage and family, and what it looks like to be empowered for CONNECTION with your spouse specifically. There are two things I most want you to take away from today’s episode: 1. Your BEING is far more important than your DOING. It’s not tasks or “to-dos” that you need more of when it comes to strengthening your marriage; it’s more transformative MINDSET SHIFTS that result in you becoming a truly confident, empowered wife. 2. You DO have a say in the trajectory of your marriage! You DO have a say in how you connect with your husband, how you respond to your husband, and even how you THINK about your husband. And knowing that you have this power and AUTHORITY makes all the difference. 24 Feb 2020 | When You’re Suffering and Don’t See the Kindness of God | 00:28:23
Today’s episode is on the topic of suffering. This may be the most vulnerable episode I’ve ever released, but I also believe it to be one of the most important for some of you. Any time I share some of the harder or heavier parts of my story, it’s with the hope of reaching other women where they are and restoring hope for them, too. So I just want to let you know that if you are in a place of hardship or suffering these days, or are maybe even angry with God, you are not alone. You are so very much loved. And His kindness IS being poured out over you through it all.

09 Mar 2020 | The Difference Between Coaching and Counseling | 00:21:46
One of the questions I get asked a lot is, “How is coaching different from counseling?” Because I believe in the value of both while also knowing that the two can oftentimes look so differently - and produce different RESULTS at different RATES - I want to use today’s episode to tackle this question in a way that you won’t find on Google. I’ll be discussing MY personal experiences and philosophies regarding the differences between counseling and coaching, as well as including short testimonials from a couple of my clients on what THEY have experienced regarding the two. This episode will be interesting, insightful, and also hopefully able to help you decide whether coaching may be the right next step for you! 13 Apr 2020 | Live Coaching: Your Breakdowns Can Lead to the Breakthroughs | 00:51:03
In today’s new podcast episode, you’re getting another inside look into what coaching with me is like as I coach one of my clients, Shanna. You’ll first hear us discussing the details of a recent “breakdown” Shanna experienced relating to the effects of COVID-19 on her personal life and family. You’ll be hearing her speak with raw emotion and asking some hard, honest questions, which some of you may be asking yourself, as well. Later in the episode you will also get to hear a snippet from our FOLLOW-UP session together, during which she shared what a complete 180 she was able to experience. This was after implementing the changes we decided on just less than a week earlier! What’s so astounding, and what I most want listeners to take away from this episode, is that not only do our breakdowns NOT negate our breakTHROUGHS, but sometimes they’re precisely what LEAD to them. As you’re listening to Shanna being coached and challenged, I hope that you, too, are able to be coached and challenged. As we are navigating this difficult time of grief and crisis, having somebody to push you and walk with you in this way really can make a world of difference in terms of whether you merely “get by” while in this self-quarantine… or you actually thrive.
