22 Apr 2022ModelGeeks Episode 32; "SHOW SEASON IS UPON US!"02:02:28

Welcome to The ModelGeeks Podcast. Well, Show and Contest season is upon us! Alright we’ve discussed model contests before here on the Geeks but let’s talk shows/contests from the perspective of being “in show season”! We’re in the midst of planning our first show down here in Pax River (PAXCON23), and we’re learning really quickly how much work goes into planning and running a successful, i.e. FUN, model show and contest. Call it a contest, call it a show we’re there to see what’s on the tables. Let’s leave judging off the table, and talk about what we like…and indeed dislike, about going to a model show with your buddies.

We’ll also give a run-down of what’s new out there in kits, aftermarket, upcoming shows, and other news around the hobby. We would like to thank all the listeners for the support you have given the show over the past year now. We hope to see you out and about as we hit some of the shows. 26 Aug 2022ModelGeeks Episode 40; "Pushing through a problem/finding solutions"01:49:28

Welcome to Episode 40 of The ModelGeeks Podcast. In this episode we’ll discuss what’s going on around the hobby we love, and in our Main Topic we’ll cover overcoming difficulties in a build. Problem solving is one aspect of modeling I happen to enjoy, it gets you thinking ahead of the build, sharpens the ol’ noggin’, and gives you a feeling of accomplishment…well, if things go well that is.

D-ran and Nemo just returned from Roanoke VA where they attended the Roanoke Valley IPMS Virginia Shootout on Saturday. They’ll give a recap of the show and let us know how they did!

The “Post Nats” mojo is still burning strong and each of us will talk about what’s on our bench, and what kits or accessories we’ve picked up.

We’ll also give a run-down of what’s new out there in kits, aftermarket, upcoming shows, and other news around the hobby. We would like to thank all the listeners for the continued support you have given the show. We hope to see you out and about as we hit some of the shows. 29 Oct 2022ModelGeeks Episode 44; "Museum or real life? Lets not get stupid folks, there's a difference"01:55:07

Welcome to Episode 44 of The ModelGeeks Podcast. In this episode, we get into discussing individual approaches to finish and weathering. Not so much techniques, we’ve discussed that before but how we as individual modelers see a subject, and how we want it represented…whether it be a “show room” finish, a weather beaten relic, or somewhere in between.

Of course, we’ll also go around the horn and talk about what we are in work on, and also give a run-down of what’s new out there in kits, aftermarket, upcoming shows, and other news around the hobby.

18 Mar 2023ModelGeeks Episode 52 "The Best Kits That Never Were"02:14:40

Welcome to Episode 52 of The ModelGeeks Podcast.

In this episode we discuss the frustrations of hoping for a version of a nice kit subject, that simply never materializes. Read on…

We’ve all built kits or seen kits hit the streets that we automatically think “Oh man, I hope they do the X version of that!” …only for that particular version of a kit to never materialize…for what seems to be unfathomable reasons!

Right now my favorite headscratcher to this conundrum is the RF-8 Crusader. Building the Hasegawa F-8E at the moment, you can see where the thought was there to perhaps do the Recconn version…and why wouldn’t they, as historical an aircraft that it has been?! But, to no avail. We are left with only aftermarket conversions and dreams.

In an era when we keep seeing releases of subjects we’ve all only dreamt of, there are still several subjects out there waiting to piggyback on to the success of their predecessors.

Of course, we’ll also discuss what we are In Work on, give you a run-down of what’s new out there in kits, aftermarket, upcoming shows, and other news around the hobby.

We would like to thank all the listeners for the continued support you have given the show. We hope to see you out and about as we hit some of the shows. 20 Apr 2024MGPC Episode 76 "There’s Always Room for Improvement!”02:26:03

Welcome to Episode 76 of The Modelgeeks Podcast!  In this episode, we kick off with  what we are in work on, what new items are out there, and what we have picked up lately. D-ran and Whitey touch briefly of their recent trip up to MosquitoCon32 but for more on that go back and check out last weeks “off timeline” drop of the MosquitoCon32 Wrap Up show. El-Presidenté will tell us “What’s New in 72!”, and we’ll end with a discussion on what we think each of us can or would like to improve upon in each of our model building skillsets.

We also had the opportunity to sit down and talk with Jefferey Garrity, THE RARE-PLANE DETECTIVE of Rare-Plane Detective hobby store…a repository, data base, and archive of hard-to-find model kits and aftermarket. If you’re hitting a hobby show on the East Coast, West Coast, anywhere in between, and Parts Unknown, chances are Jeff and his sidekick Winston and helpful assistant Liz are going to be there in the vending area offering up all the HTF and even the latest kits at “Hobby Show Prices”! Take a look at their web-site and Facebook Page here:

12 Oct 2024MGPC Episode 88 "Lights...Camera......Action.......".02:02:00

Welcome to Episode 88 of The Modelgeeks Podcast!

In this episode, the Modelgeeks take the listeners for a lap in the pattern and Frilldo assumes the Lead for this episode and leads the geeks as they discuss what new items they have picked up.  D-Ran is back in the saddle and has assumed the “Boss” position with the geeks. The geeks give D-Ran the “business” and task him with a few episodes, only to be out witted by the Boss.  The Geeks brief the listeners on what new kits are hitting the streets in the future. The Geeks answer mail, take a lap in the pattern around the Modelgeeks Model Shack on FB and say what has stood out to them.

For the main topic, a long time listener sent the geeks a message and asked the question, :What are the Geeks favorite movies to watch to help motivate you”? Well that couldn’t have worked out any better and Frilldo asks the geeks what are their favorite movies to watch while at the bench, and for aircraft modelers, the answers are interesting. We would like to thank all the listeners for the continued support you have given the show. We hope to see you out and about as we hit some of the shows or if you decide to come visit ours in October. 12 Apr 2025MGPC Ep. 98 Researching and Planning Your Model Build...A Listener Asks??02:05:17

Welcome to Episode 98 of The Modelgeeks Podcast!

We’ve all been busy at the bench through March! We’ll talk about cool new items coming our way, and what we’ve picked up lately, as well as pay a visit to the Modelgeeks web page’s “Listener Gallery” and have a look at the great work from you folks out there.

For our main topic of discussion, we pull from the Mail Bag! Mr. Robbie Nauffts of Alberta Canada asks:

“How do you research a subject for a build?” Are you looking at a specific aircraft? Or a cross section of similar aircraft? What happens when Samo is planning a build compared to Frilldo? Exc.

Do we always go to the books for a build, or can we just relax and go out of the box and just enjoy building a model kit? Or is doing research part of the enjoyment? We each have our take on it.

We would like to thank all you listeners out there for the continued support you have given the show.
