Vladimir Matyushenko was part of the "Real American Wrestlers" (RAW Team) in the early days. His story starts with his defection to the United States after a wrestling meet where he defeated the legendary David Schultz. Once in the USA, it was his rivals in the wrestling community that took him in and led him to the world of fighting and MMA.
We avoid politics and war talk, and the results are many of us are getting to know a real life superhero for the first time. Thank you Vlad for all the stories and the honesty.

Gary also reveals he is looking to bring MMA to Kenya and has a date of December 10th in the works for Nairobi.
A HUGE thank you to special guest Tom Erikson, who sits in to assist the LytesOut crew, so you get "Big Daddy" with "The Big Cat." Glad this was an interview and not a tag team match!

The LOP crew interviews historian Scott Burt. Scott runs the Bare Knuckle Boxing Hall of Fame in Upstate New York and is the active President of the legendary Police Gazzette periodical.
We go deep into boxing history as we discuss the historic John L. Sullivan Vs Jake Kilrain bare knuckle boxing bout. Sullivan trained at William Muldoon's upstate NY farm for his most famous bare knuckle fight... this one is a fight talk gem. By the way, Scott Burt calls the Muldoon gym home nowadays.
We also get Scott Burt's opinion on the modern revival of bare knuckle and how the HOF is adapting. Great fight talk for the hardcores - talk about something that deserves backing!

We found Onassis Parungao in Connecticut, teaching Kung-fu and Tai-Chi, arts that he has dedicated his life to. In the world of traditional martial arts, Parungao is set apart and associated with MMA because of the following:
In 1995, he fought an alternate fight at UFC 7, defeating Francesco "Fang" Maturi. The tournament held together and was won by Marco Ruas, but Parungao was standing by to jump in.
In those days, traditional martial artists were known to shun the UFC. You can count on just 1 or 2 hands the number of traditional martial artists who stepped up to test themselves. Parungao is undefeated in the UFC at 1-0. Though it is one fight, very few can make that statement.
Before deciding to discontinue in his fighting career, Parungao also traveled to Russia and participated in the notorious 32-man Absolute tournament that was won by Renzo Gracie student Ricardo Morais. Parungao went 1-1 that night.
Onassis Parungao goes one on one with Miguel Iturrate of the #LytesOut team. This one is for the hardcores...
You can visit Onassis at Connecticut's Cheng Yee (Righteous) Kung Fu School.

In terms of Mixed Martial Arts utility men, Joey Brown is at the top of many old school promoters lists. This episode is dedicated to a locker room hero that rarely if ever said no to a fight. Joey Brown has also done time stamps for us on several different episodes and for that we at the LOP are very grateful.
