24 Jul 2023Alyssa Breaks it Down… or does she break down? The Topic is Mom Guilt. 00:19:48
Summer is upon us. And for most moms, that means taking on a lot of added responsibilities. From not having any alone time, to feeling the pressure to be constantly doing things with the kids, Alyssa is struggling. What better place to vent, though, than with your best anxious mom friends? That’s exactly what we’re here for. To be open and honest about our struggles - but to also bring us back to reality. We are all allowed to have off days and to sometimes feel like we’re not doing enough. We’re only human. The most important thing is to get back on track. To know that you are a good mom. And to stand in that power. If I had to categorize this episode in one word it would be vulnerable. But I hope that sharing this episode will help any other moms who are going through something similar feel less alone.

05 Sep 2023Growing Together: The Sibling Episode00:32:07
Relationships between siblings can be complex. As a mom, it can be tricky to take care of more than one kid. We try to treat each kid equally, but that is so tough when they need different things from us. "Sometimes with multiple kids, it can feel like your heart is being pulled in different directions and it's hard to feel like you are doing enough as a parent." Whether your kids are close in age or a few years apart, every relationship and family dynamic is different.  In today's episode, we talk about how our families have grown from having one to two kids and how all of our relationships have evolved. The sibling bond is something WILD. Sometimes our kids are best friends. Sometimes they can't even be in the same room together. But we know how lucky we are that they get to grow up together, and we hope someday they learn how lucky they are, too.

14 Aug 2023You are Not “Just a Mom”00:16:26
Nikki went to see the Barbie movie this past weekend and was told by one of her friends that she had a Barbie when she was younger that was a "mom", therefore she had "no ambitions". That really struck a chord. As moms, we are already so hard on ourselves that we aren't doing enough - EVER, and that is not fair. Since both of us have been stay at home moms, we understand the feeling of "just being a mom", but we don't think it's right that its the way we are portrayed by society. By saying a woman is "just a mom", you mean she is working hard at raising the next generation? That she takes care of a whole household? That she is a maid, chef, caretaker, event planner all in one? Is that what we mean by "just a mom"? I know when I was a stay at home mom, I believed myself to be that. Nothing more than someone to take care of everyone else. Someone with no hobbies outside of the home. But now I can clearly see a stay at home mom for what she is - the ROCK OF THE FAMILY. This episode is not to take away from the working mom, either, as we recognize that she has just as much, if not more, pressure on her than a stay at home mom. But we just have experience as stay at home moms so we can't relate as much to working moms. We hope you can listen to this episode and feel like YOU ARE MORE THAN "JUST A MOM" - because that is a fact.
05 Dec 2023Kara Kushnir: Inside the Mind of a Perinatal Mental Health Expert00:34:56
We are SO excited to have our first guest on the podcast! Kara Kushnir is a psychotherapist & LCSW, and also the founder of A Work of Heart Counseling. Not only is Kara certified in perinatal mental health, but she is also a mom herself. After having a traumatic birth and suffering from PPA/OCD, she made it her mission to help other moms who are going through something similar. In this episode, we touch on so many important topics of motherhood that we feel aren't talked about enough. From the difference between "perinatal" and "postpartum", to talking about hyperemesis gravidarum, and birth trauma, Kara gets vulnerable in sharing her experiences with us, as well as her triumphs and goals for the future. This truly was an inspirational conversation. Kara's drive and ambition for helping other moms reminded us of what our goal is at Mind Over Mom and that is to normalize motherhood being HARD. It's okay if you struggle. It's okay if being a mom flipped your world upside down. It's okay to ask for help. We are just here to remind you that regardless, you are doing a fantastic job. And you're not alone with these thoughts (even though it might feel like it at times). We can't wait to hear what you think about this episode! To find Kara, you can visit her... 22 Aug 2023From Worries to School Bells: Navigating Back to School Anxiety for Moms 00:22:44
Any time a change of season happens in our lives, anxiety tends to spike. With summer coming to an end, a new school year is upon us. For some moms, that means having to step back and let their kids be on their own for the first time ever. For other moms, it means that they are finally getting back into a "routine" that they crave. We are both of these moms, which is why it is so fun to give our unique perspectives to each other and to you each week. Nikki is about to navigate ALL new territory as both of her children are entering school, and it is giving her all the feels. As a stay at home mom for the last almost 6 years, she cannot imagine not having her boys by her side. She has known no different and now there is so much unknown. It's terrifying. Although she knows it's time to let them fly, it doesn't make it any easier. What she does know is that they are ready... the question is, is she? And on the total opposite end of the spectrum, Alyssa is an introverted, routine craving mom who is excited to send the kids back to school. Since her kids are both entering the same schools that they were in last year, it almost just feels like things are going to be getting back to "normal" in her house. She is looking forward to this change of season. Whether you feel excited or nervous to send your kids to school this year, we both can relate to you, mama. It can be tough to let the our kids fly on their owns, but we cannot let our own anxieties stop our children from flourishing into the tiny people they are meant to be.
26 Sep 2023Mom Real Talk: Navigating Expectation Vs. Reality00:24:48
In this episode, we talk about how we deal with setting high expectations for our kids in situations and they do not end up turning out like we had planned. We talk about recent things that we have been dealing with in regards to expectation vs. reality in our lives. With the kids now being in school, we discuss how we thought they would handle the transition versus how they are actually handling it. We touch on the topic of how society sets "expectations" for when kids should be doing things. Like how they should walk by a certain age, or talk by a certain age.. and if they don't meet the standards, doctors will try to tell us that something could be wrong. And that feels like we are failing as parents. Another topic covered is sports.. and how we put pressure on the kids and ourselves to put them into sports when maybe sometimes they just aren't ready. My favorite part of this episode, though, is when we talk about mindset. And flipping from a negative mindset when the kids aren't meeting our expectations to a positive mindset. I just love sitting down each week and talking through things that are happening in our lives. I hope that you can relate and that you get something special out of this episode! If you aren't already, we'd love it if you'd follow us on Instagram @mindovermom and let us know what you think of this episode! If you like the episode, we'd be honored if you'd share it with a fellow mama who could benefit from hearing it!
12 Mar 2024Embracing Glimmers: Navigating Setbacks and Identity Beyond Motherhood00:27:53

We share anecdotes about moments when gratitude shone through despite difficult circumstances. Discover how a sick day on Alyssa's birthday led to unexpected appreciation for small comforts, while wrestling matches between Nikki's sons offered glimpses of their future bond. We explore the power of finding positivity in everyday struggles and discuss Nikki's journey of self-discovery during life shifts. Tune in for a candid conversation about resilience, gratitude, and the beauty of finding light in the darkness. *** SPONSOR SPOTLIGHT *** Kara Kushnir is a psychotherapist/LCSW, licensed in NJ, PA, FL and SC. 21 Nov 2023Boundaries & Balance: Navigating Anxious Motherhood with Intentional Parenting00:32:40
We all know how important boundaries are in our lives. But they are hard to enforce, right? We want to have good boundaries with our kids, our family members, even our friends, to ensure that we are taking care of our mental health and putting ourselves first. While sometimes it is easier said than done to have solid boundaries, in this episode we dive into the ways in which we are excelling at enforcing our boundaries, and also where we are lacking and could use some improvement. As moms, our goal is to raise children who understand that saying "no" sometimes is healthy. And that you are allowed to set boundaries however you see fit. Boundaries also allow us to create structure in our homes, and are an essential life skill that we believe should be taught, as well as shown how to enforce. 13 Aug 2024Behind the Mic: Nikki's Journey From Chaos to Confidence01:02:22

Hello our anxious mom friends!

If you remember in season 1 of this podcast, Alyssa had her own episode where she discussed her journey into motherhood, and her struggles along the way.

This episode is all about Nikki!

Nikki was a stay at home mom for 5 years to two little boys (cue the chaos).

Last year, she had to deal with the adjustment of them going to school full time while she had to learn how to be okay being alone for the first time in years.

In this episode, we talk about how she was able to cope with that transition, what life is like with 2 crazy little boys, and how we began the journey of this podcast as a duo.

We laugh.

We almost cry.

And we felt inspired by each other in this episode.

Nikki's strength and willingness to share her struggles with the world are the whole reason we started the podcast in the first place.

You do not want to miss this episode!

10 Oct 2023Empowering Anxious Moms: Transformative Affirmations & Mindset Shifts for Inner Peace00:34:24
Who doesn't love a good positive affirmation?! We've been trying to incorporate them into our every day lives so that we can focus on all of the wonderful things that happen in our days, instead of focusing on what is going wrong. So in this episode, we dive into our struggles as moms, then we give a positive affirmation for a mindset shift. This is a little bit of a different format than what we are used to with a very optimistic outlook. We know motherhood is hard, having anxiety is hard, and sometimes life in general can be hard; but we want to put our energy into the things in life that are going RIGHT. And we want you to, as well! We hope you get as much out of listening to this episode as we did recording it! 12 Sep 2023Back to School Blues: Handling Tearful Transitions00:21:10
Back to school can be such a tough transition for kids and moms. Some kids walk into school with smiles on their faces, while others have to be carried to their classrooms. For moms, both can be difficult. In this episode, we talk about how the first few days of school have been going for us and our kids. It hasn't been an easy transition. We've been dealing with tears, meltdowns, and separation anxiety from our youngest kids. We know that we just have to power through and allow the kids an adjustment period, but it's so hard to watch your kids struggle. If your kids are having a hard time getting back into the routine of school, you are SO not alone. We are, too. And if your kids are adjusting easily, more power to you, mama!! Either way, we are here to support you and lift you up each week.
16 Jul 2024The Guilt of Resting: Why Moms Need to Ask for Help00:30:02
In this episode, we dive into a topic every mom can relate to: the guilt we feel when we finally take a break. This week, Nikki faced a tough illness that forced her to slow down, something her go-go-go lifestyle rarely allows. Coupled with a difficult menstrual cycle, she found herself struggling to rest and feeling guilty about it. Join us as we explore why it’s so hard for moms to ask for help and why it’s crucial for our well-being. We discuss the importance of slowing down, listening to our bodies, and not being afraid to lean on others for support. We also tackle the often unspoken challenges of dealing with our menstrual cycles and how they can impact our daily lives more than we acknowledge. Tune in for an honest, relatable conversation about self-care, the hidden pressures of motherhood, and how showing our kids the importance of rest can be a powerful lesson. Don’t miss this episode packed with heartfelt insights and practical advice for every mom who’s ever felt guilty about needing a break.
24 Oct 2023Prioritizing Mental Health: Moms Leading the Way 00:26:20
Have you ever taken a "mental health day?" Where you just felt like you needed a break from your life and wanted to spend the day prioritizing the things that you actually love to do?  We're all entitled to them - even our kids.  As moms, it can be a tough decision on when and why to give our kids those days off.  So last week, we both gave our kids mental health days. In this episode, we talk about what lead us to make that decision and how we went about doing it.  We believe that we ALL deserve those kinds of days, regardless of the reason and regardless if you are a mom or a child.  If you don't already, we'd love it if you'd subscribe to this podcast, share it with your anxious mom friends, and follow us on Instagram @mindovermom.  We can't wait to hear what you think!

28 Aug 2023Motherhood Unveiled: What We Wish We Knew Before Embracing Parenthood00:30:44
We knew motherhood would be challenging, of course we did. Don't we all? But we didn't understand the full capacity in which our lives were going to change. From sleep depravation, to having no alone time, to losing touch with so many friends, we underestimated a lot of early motherhood. Especially in this day and age with social media and everyone only showing their "highlight reels", it can seem like motherhood is a breeze but that is not the truth. Our goal is to open up the conversation around how complicated your life can become after becoming a mom. In early motherhood I struggled so much, and I struggled so hard, and I struggled so alone, and I didn't need to. We want new moms to feel like they can put aside their pride and ask for help when they need it because motherhood is THAT HARD. In this podcast episode, we are open and honest about the things we wish we knew before we became moms. We want all moms to listen to us and feel like they are not alone in their struggles and to not feel ashamed to ask for help. Regardless if you're a seasoned mom or a new mom, it is okay to admit that you need help sometimes.
26 Jun 2023Anxiety in Early Motherhood00:28:50

Alyssa had a harder time with anxiety when her kids were babies, while Nikki is having a harder time now that her kids are older. We have different perspectives and different parenting styles. We hope that you can listen to the episode and feel like you are surrounded by your best anxious mom friends. 🫶🏻

But now, with life a little less chaotic and our kids getting older, we’ve both welcomed new furry additions—a kitten for Nikki and a puppy for Alyssa.

We also reflect on the motherhood mantra, “This too shall pass,” and how it applies to both our kids and our pets.

31 Jul 2023The Pressures of Social Media00:21:33
Has social media ever made you feel bad about yourself? In this episode, we get real about how comparing our lives (especially in motherhood) to others on social media has not always been good for our mental health. In early motherhood, it is so easy to only post the "highlight reel" and not the hardships that we all face, which is a tough comparison. We want to open the conversation about how we are all guilty of only posting the happy moments, but that we are still humans doing the best we can. Even when we are struggling, we make it look like we are so happy on social media. But we want to be a little more honest and pull back the curtain that things are not always as they appear.

07 Aug 2023Parenting Complex Children with Big Emotions00:21:11
Something that we are both struggling with lately is dealing with the complex emotions of our second kids. Our main goal in life is to be good moms and to raise kind, healthy, well behaved kids… but sometimes that isn’t so easy. Both of our first born children were SO easy and laid back as toddlers, so our second kids are really giving us a run for our money. In this episode, we talk about our struggles. We discuss what is working for us currently, what our daily battles look like, and how we are constantly second guessing ourselves as moms. If there are any moms that have a more “complicated child” who does not respond to your parenting style the way that you hoped they would, then this episode is DEFINITELY for you!! We hope that bringing our issues to light will shine some honesty for all of our anxious mom friends so you know you aren’t alone.
28 Nov 2023Mom Mindset Flips: A Guide to Turning Anxiety into Empowerment00:33:59
We know how easy it is to feel overwhelmed with responsibility in motherhood. We feel it constantly. But something we have been focusing on and putting a lot of effort into is our mindset. And reframing our thoughts from "I have to do this" to "I get to do this." In this episode, we talk about exactly how we are incorporating these shifts into our lives. There are so many things we have to do for our kids that are not always the most fun, but we do them anyway for the benefit of our family. So since we HAVE to do these things, we might as well look at them from an optimistic point of view, right? We hope you enjoy this episode and we'd love it if you'd follow us on Instagram @mindovermom and subscribe to our podcast & leave us a review! We appreciate you, our anxious mom friend!!

Because not everything is going to be perfect all the time. And we have to remind ourselves that our kids are watching us every second of the day. 18 Sep 2023Reclaiming Me: A Mom's Journey to Finding Herself Again00:25:20
A MUST LISTEN EPISODE! When we first started this podcast, we struggled a bit with opening up and being vulnerable. But as the weeks pass and we get more comfortable talking and receiving positive feedback, its becoming easier and easier for us to share what we are dealing with. We've been talking a lot about "back to school" and that's because that is what season of life we are in right now. One of us (Alyssa) is handling it well. Schedules are something that she thrives in so having a routine back in place makes it much easier for her. On the other hand, Nikki is really struggling. Both of her kids are now in school full time, so she has so much more time to herself. And that is not what she is used to after being a stay at home mom for over 5 years. So in this episode, we truly dive deep. We talk about how hard it is to "find yourself" again after dedicating so many years to focusing on your kids. Nikki is on a path of rediscovery. It takes a strong person to decide that they want to take care of their mental health and that's exactly what she's doing. We'd love to hear from YOU about what you have been doing to take care of your mental health lately! Leave us a comment and let us know! Also - be sure to follow us on Instagram @mindovermom! And share this episode with a mom who you think could use some motivation right now!
