04 Mar 2022EP113- What To Sow In March & Other Gardening Jobs I'm Doing00:29:47

Send Me A Message!!

So March is the month when seed sowing really kicks off after and gathers pace. I have so far sown only a few seeds shallots, onions red & white and spring onion. This month however I start sowing the main sowing of vegetables and flowers.

I also outline lots of gardening jobs we can be doing in March to get ahead of ourselves ahead of the typically very busy April in the garden.

18 Mar 2022EP115 - Food Security, With Lots Of Talk About It Is There Anything We Can Do?00:26:28

Send Me A Message!!

Food Security lets talk about it. I recorded and edited this episode and had to think hard as to whether I would release it or not for a few reasons. It is a little off topic for Master My Gaerden podcast in one way but still it has come up several times on episodes over the past two years.  But also  when I hear this conversation it sometimes seems hollow to me because in many parts of the world we are so privileged and lucky to not to have to deal with the harsh realities that cause food security issues for many around the world.

The current events around the world have brought this issue to the conversation again with suggestions that all farmer here in Ireland should devote a portion of land to growing grain in the coming year.

In our gardens growing fruit and vegetables to support our families does not only help at times like this but it also a great thing to do for our own health and for the environment. I think that's what we should all be striving for.  I know here in Ireland we here capable of growing so much in our gardens and we get generally the right climatic conditions to do that. The biggest obstacles people face generally in their garden is have enough time to tend to or manage a kitchen garden and to have the knowhow to keep on top of it all. Thats one aim of the podcast to help people with this knowhow bit and I hope that many of you can get something from the episodes to help you grow your own food this year.

01 Apr 2022EP117- What To Sow In April And Other Gardening Jobs00:33:41

Send Me A Message!!

In this weeks episode of Master My Garden podcast John looks at what we can sow in April.
April is the month when seed sowing and gardening in general ramps up but its also a month to exercise caution around sowing and planting outside. In some areas and especially in colder parts of Ireland frosts are still prevalent and will be until perhaps mid May so all sowing and planting should be done with a little caution at this stage. If planting out veg later in the month ensure it is hardened off first and if possible give it some form of protection from the elements. Later in the month tender crops can be sown including sweet corn, courgette, squash etc. Successional sowing can be continued on a fortnightly basis.

There are lots of other jobs in what will be a very busy month in the garden but go slow there is still lots of time.

15 Apr 2022EP119- How To Protect Your Plants This Spring00:27:51

Send Me A Message!!

How to protect your plants from different threats this spring is the topic on this weeks episode of Master My Garden podcast.

John looks at how to mind all those seedlings you have been minding and growing on your windowsill or greenhouse. At this stage your seedlings are really looking for more space and looking to get into the ground, but the weather and the different weather threats such as frost, hail, heavy showers and wind can all badly damage and even kill your precious little seedlings. So what can we do to ensure we can make sure they reach their full potential over the coming months.

So here is what we can do to protect our seedlings:

·      Bring them outside during any mild days to toughen them up.

·      Feed them with seaweed fertiliser this will help them to harden up and will toughen the cells of the leaves and stems.

·      Use frost fleece and after a nights frost do not remove the following morning until almost noon.

·      Earth up potatoes as they start to peep out of the ground

·      Use bio netting/ environmesh this will protect from hail, heavy showers and wind but allows water and air through so it’s a healthy environment inside for plants.

So that’s the main points and while a little boring for a podcat episode it is vital information so we can get the best results from out last few months sowing.

22 Apr 2022EP121- Listener question answered How to Extend The Harvest Period of Strawberries?00:25:03

Send Me A Message!!

Listener question answered for this weeks episode of the podcast. The listener asked how can I extend the harvest period of strawberries?

Its a great question because strawberries are the number 1 soft fruit for grow you own but they are really fleeting, and if you only grow one variety then chances are you will only have fruit for 2-3 weeks. So can we extend it and how?

Firstly by growing different varieties from early, mid and late season croppers you will get an automatic extension and then by adding some simple husbandry and tricks we can extend the season by up to 5 months which would be great.

29 Apr 2022EP122- What To Sow In May & Other Gardening Jobs00:31:26

Send Me A Message!!

In this weeks episode we look at what can we sow in May in our gardens and other gardening jobs for this very busy month.

May is the month we can get outside with our sowing and although frost can still be an issue for another few weeks it is the month when temperatures rise and growth really kicks off after a cold spring.

Sowing of successional veg can begin outside sowing spinach, radish, spring onion etc. It is also the month to sow carrots, parsnips, beetroot, swedes and other root crops outside in prepared beds.

If you have been growing veg plants in module trays now is the time to start planting out to get an earlier crop that from the outdoor seed sown crops.

Annual flowers can also be sown in prepared ground outside seed such as Cosmos, Nigella, Cornflower and others will give abundant flowers later in the year.

It's a busy month but a highly rewarding one as nature and the pace in the garden starts to pick up pace.

06 May 2022EP123- Perfect Hanging Baskets, Plant Fairs & More00:41:47

Send Me A Message!!

If you want to have perfect hanging baskets this year there are some essential tips to ensure you are the envy of your neighbours. This is what we look at in this weeks episode.

Every year thousands of hanging baskets go out up and down the country however many never look as they should and after often taken down prematurely through neglect.

So what do you need to do to ensure your baskets look great all year long.

  1. Use a growing media with water retaining gel or better still make your own using 1/2 top soil 3/8 multipurpose compost and 1/8 organic material ( farm yard manure or similar) also add water retailing gel at mixing time.
  2. Watering is essential and remember hanging baskets tend even in wet weather to get very little water. So to keep them at there best you will need to water every day or every second day little and often. If you have used just a peat based growing media ensure it does not dry out because if it does it is very difficult to re-wet.
  3. Feeding & deadheading these should be done every week. I find the best food for hanging baskets is to alternate seaweed fertiliser with a hanging basket food or tomato food.

If you follow these tips you will have great baskets all summer long.

20 May 2022EP125- Dr. Elaine Ingham Talks About The Soil Food Web & What Is Going On In The Soil Under Our Feet01:00:55

Send Me A Message!!

In this weeks episode of Master My Garden podcast John chats to world renowned microbiologist Dr.Elaine Ingham who has been one of the leading voices in soil health for 4 decades.

What is going on in the soil is something that we all need to understand more and become in tune with, because a healthy soil has amazing benefits for the plants which grow within and also the foods that we consume from such soils.

These benefits include all the obvious things like healthier plants, higher yield, better tasting food etc.

But it is the deeper benefits that are truly fascinating  when plants are grown in healthy soil there is an advanced communication system that starts to develop between the plants and all the soil micro organisms. This communication system which Dr.Elaine refers to as the soil food web consists of bacteria, fungi, nematodes, worms and many more  soil organisms.

When the soil and communication system is fully healthy lots of amazing things happen.

  • Plants request the exact nutrients they require and the micro organisms release the correct amount of the correct nutrient.
  • Weeds are almost non existent
  • Plants cells are really tough and durable and so more resistant to drought, pests, diseases and any other stresses.
  • Carbon gets stored in the soil and roots of plants

It is a wonderful world under the soil one which we all need to get to understand a little better because understanding and treating the soil correctly just might be the cure for so many of the worlds issues right now.

03 Jun 2022EP127- What To Sow In June & Other Gardening Jobs00:28:09

Send Me A Message!!

In this weeks episode of Master My Garden podcast,  John looks at what we can sow in June?
and chat about other gardening jobs for June.

June is a month where we are harvesting quiet a bit from our gardens & greenhouses and it is great to have these fresh vegetables & fruit. For me I am harvesting spinach, lettuce, spring onion, chard, radish, broccoli, cabbage, leeks, strawberries & lots of herbs. It is important in this moment to keep an eye on the future months so that we can continue to have an array of crops to choose from later in the year. So with that in mind we look at what crops we can sow in June and also other important gardening jobs for June.

Continue to sow your successional vegetables including lettuce, spinach, spring onion, radish and any others you like in your regular sowing's. Sow carrots and beetroot early and late in the month. I will also be sowing some brassicas for harvest in autumn including Savoy cabbage, Kale & Broccoli.

Other jobs that we can or must be doing this month include.

  • Keep your greenhouse ventilated to prevent disease such as tomato blight.
  • Take softwood cutting  deciduous shrubs most can be taken in the summer on soft new season growth.
  • Support perennials to ensure they don't fall over when in flower.
  • Cut back early flowering lupin's & delphinium to get a second flush of flowers later in the year.
  • Watch out and do preventative treatment for potato blight
  • Top up garden ponds as evaporation of water can mean the pond heats up quicker and this leads to build up algae and green water. Try to ensure that 1/2 the surface of the pond is covered with floating plants for maximum effect.

Other than that enjoy the June garden and hopefully some nice weather to soak it all in .

17 Jun 2022EP129- Clare Rooney She Sows Seeds Chats Growing Pumpkins, Flowers, Peat Free Compost & Much More00:49:21

Send Me A Message!!

In this weeks episode of Master My Garden Podcast I chat with Clare Rooney from Willowpatch Farm. Clare is a breath of fresh air through her Instagram and new YouTube channel (links below) where she talks about her success's and failures in her garden. Keeping it very real that everything is not always perfect.

We have a great chat about growing pumpkins, tomatoes and lots of other veg as well as flowers which makes their way onto willowpatch farm's honesty stand and soon to appear in farmers markets.

Clare shares her tips for growing giant pumpkins, perfect tomatoes and we have a long chat about peat free composts.

When it comes to peat free composts there is no doubt that we should be moving away from using peat  based growing media in the long term.

But the discussion and movement is a bit imbalanced at present I think. For example you will see people online promoting the use of coir composts as a environmentally friendly solution and maybe it is if you live near the source but for Ireland,UK & many other regions coir is 100% not an environmentally friendly option given that it travels half way around the world to get to us and needs vast amounts of water to wet it before you can grow in it.

Many of the peat free composts available have issues and are not consistent in quality. Clare and John talk about he issues they have had with poor germination, poor follow on growth etc. Its an open and honest discussion and shows that while peat free is ideal there is a bigger picture that we all should look at when it comes to making out compost choices for growing our garden. Over the long term you would hope that a consistent, affordable, quality alternative will become available to all gardeners.

Its a great chat with Clare and you can follow her here.

24 Jun 2022EP130- Niall McCauley From Niall Gardens Chats All Things Gardening & The Superb Advice In His Most Recent Youtube Video00:46:22

Send Me A Message!!

As gardeners do we strive too much for perfection and as a result we often don't start jobs ?
Or are we so focussed on what needs to be done that we struggle to find joy or happiness in what we already have in our gardens. All of these things rob us of the everyday joys that are and can be present in our gardens.

In this weeks episode John chats with Niall McCauley gardener and Youtube creator all about Niall own garden and his most recent video "5 Things we are still learning as gardeners" the video was recorded with Liz Zorab and highlights 5 things they are still learning but that many of us could take note of and apply to ourselves and our gardens to allow us to see the beauty in the messy middle as Niall describes.

These 5 things will lead us to enjoying our gardens more and ultimately becoming better gardeners. Its a great chat with Niall and has lots in it for all gardeners.

01 Jul 2022EP131- What To Sow In July & Other Gardening Jobs00:28:14

Send Me A Message!!

In this weeks episode of Master My Garden podcast John looks at what to sow in July and other gardening jobs.

July is a month when all our vegetable beds are heaving with produce and space for new crops can be at a premium. It is also holiday time and a combination of holidays and full beds mean that people generally stop sowing their seed at this time of the year. However if you can keep sowing at this time you will have plants to go in after you harvest your onions, potatoes and other crops. This will ensure you have supply right through to the autumn and winter.

So what can we sow? We can still sow lettuce, scallions, chard, radish and many other successional crops. Also we can make the last sowing of beetroot and carrots outside.

Other gardening tasks we can do in July include taking softwood cuttings, staking perennials, and much more.

Also remember in July to enjoy your garden after all if you can't enjoy it why would you be gardening anyway.

22 Jul 2022EP134- Gardening Thoughts From Tuscany00:35:13

Send Me A Message!!

In this weeks episode of the podcast John chats about his gardening thoughts from Tuscany after a recent family holiday there.

How good it is to be back able to travel on family holidays again and we went to Tuscany to a camp site for 13 days. What a beautiful place it is and we all had a great time.

The gardens, plant selection and they way they grew and sold vegetables was really interesting to me and I think we can learn a lot from their systems. Although they have a much different climate for many months of the year overall they have as  beautiful gardens as we do with a lot less fuss and maintenance maybe that is something we can learn from them.
Many country houses are very self sufficient in terms of veg and fruit and this also is something we should strive for given that our climate is so favourable for growing our own food.

These are just some thoughts that ran through my head as I chilled out for two weeks in a very beautiful part of the world.

29 Jul 2022EP135- Rory Newell Chats Plant Propagation, Forest Moon Plants and Much More!!00:44:09

Send Me A Message!!

In this weeks episode John chats with Rory Newell Forest Moon Plants.
Rory is an expert plant propagator, nurseryman and plants person. We chat about the different plants Rory propagates on his nursery and some of the techniques he uses to get more plants from less material. He also talks about some plant collections and stocks that he is planning to build up on his nursery over the coming months.

Finally we chat about his exciting plans to run an online plant propagation course later this year.

Here is a little bit about Forest Moon plants taken directly from their website.
Forest moon plants is a new family run plant nursery based on the edge of Galway city. The nursery is run by horticulturist/nurseryman Rory Newell who has been working away in the background for several years, slowly but surely building up on stock in anticipation of opening to the public (by arrangement) for the coming growing season of 2022.

Rory’s journey through horticulture has seen him visit and work in many of the great gardens forming important relationships which have helped steer his career in a very plant orientated way.” My primary interest always is firmly with the plants and learning about them” It was this passion for plants that led him to becoming a grower. “I just figured it was the best way to learn about plants” This obsession for plants has allowed him to travel in search of plants to places like Vietnam as part of a plant hunting team involved in conservation work.

05 Aug 2022EP136- What To Sow In The August Vegetable Garden00:23:06

Send Me A Message!!

In this weeks episode of Master My Garden podcast John looks at what to sow in the August vegetable garden.

August is generally is a month great harvests in our vegetable gardens. When it comes to what we can sow the number of seeds that we can actually sow is reducing dramatically.
So what can we sow?
We can still sow lots of salad leaves lettuce, spinach, winter purslane, mizuna and others. We can also sow scallions, chard, Kale, radish, Milan purple top turnips (or other small varieties.  Along with some cabbage for spring heads so there are still lots to sow to extend our harvests late into the winter.

If you have bare ground be sure to cover it with green manures. Green manure will fertilise your soil and improve your soil health for the spring.

Also you can start lining up your perennial seed for sowing from September onwards. I will cover this in an episode in the coming weeks.

Painting it is one of the few jobs that every gardener will do at some point in time. Whether it is painting a fence, rejuvenating old furniture or changing the style on a patio we will all do it. "There is nothing more expensive than cheap paint" is one of the many nuggets of gold in this episode as we tackle all the following jobs.

  • Best paints for decking ? (Kate recommends composite decking by the way and I second that)
  • What is the best paint for a wooden fence?
  • What is the best paint for plastic furniture?
  • What is the best paint for old patio slabs?
  • What is the best paint for garden walls.

I for one will be taking some of Kate advice onboard as I tackle some garden jobs of my own very soon.

19 Aug 2022EP138- How To Be Successful With Container Gardening With Hugh Cassidy00:48:16

Send Me A Message!!

In this weeks episode John chats with Hugh Cassidy or Horti Hugh as he is better known online. Hugh is a master of container gardening and give lots of superb tips so you can be successful with your containers.

Hugh's garden is from a gardening perspective not ideal its a north facing front garden but that doesn't stop Hugh from having year round colour and interest all from containers and pots. So in this episode Hugh tells us how to be successful with containers in the garden. One of the cornerstones of his success is his potting mix of one third recycled compost, one third farmyard manure and one third top soil with a handful of fish, blood & bone and a handful of seaweed. The beauty of this mix is that plants are growing in what they are designed to grow in the farmyard manure, seaweed and top spoil are packed with all the good microbes, bacteria etc to help plants function long terms in the pots.

We also chat about bulbs, perennials, specimen plants, grasses all of which Hugh combines for year round colour.

If you follow the advice you will soon master your own container garden.

26 Aug 2022EP139- 10 Perennials To Sow This Autumn For Super Blooms Next Summer00:30:27

Send Me A Message!!

The Autumn is a great time to sow perennial seed to have flower next summer. Temperatures through September and early October can be good and daylight levels are reasonable which is good for seed sowing. On top of that our propagation areas may not be fully utilised at this time of the year so its great to use the space to produce our abundance of flowers for next year.

What perennials can you sow in the autumn? we the answer is lots way more then we could talk about in the podcast so to keep it simple. Here are the top ten perennials I will sow this autumn.

  1. Digitalis Foxgloves (not strictly a perennial I know) but a great flower loved by bees and pollinators.
  2. Lupins Ok maybe these are seen as old fashioned but some of the single colours are class and when planted in blocks they make quiet an impact. Also these are probably the easiest plant to grow from seen and rarely fail so are well worth trying.
  3. Achillea or yarrow is another easy one last spring I grew a variety Cerise Queen from seed and it is a beauty but there are lots of nice ones and are all easy to grow.
  4. Rudbeckia a beautiful flower which is flowering at the moment (end of August) and again is easy to grow from seed. Goldstrum is one of the most popular varieties.
  5. Verbascum (again technically a biennial like the foxglove) this is a great plant the variety I grew Snowy Spires has had an incredible number of bees on it here all summer.
  6. Verbena Bonariensis again an easy one to grow that will be a willer in any border grows approx 2mt tall but is not a bully like other plants and partners well with grasses.
  7. Hardy Geraniums a must have in all gardens and one I have never grown from seed before but I will this autumn although I don't know what variety just yet.
  8. Delphiniums I have grown from seed previously but won't grow again not because of any fault of the plant just that they don't do well here because its a bit too windy.
  9. Aguilegia again an easy one and it self seeds quiet easily after in the garden. The varieties I have grown are Nora Barlow and Yellow Queen and these will be sown again.
  10. Agastache again a real hit with bees and easy to grow the variety I will sow is Astello Indigo which is a beautiful dark purple.

So that's 10 easy perennials to grow this autumn that will give great flowers next spring.

02 Sep 2022EP140- Orlaith Murphy Talks Edimentals, RHSI & Much More00:46:25

Send Me A Message!!

In this weeks episode John chats to Orlaith Murphy all about the subject of edimentals. What is edimentals?  I hear you ask.
Edimentals are essentially a crossover between ornamental and edible plants. It is a really eye opening episode in which we chat about many but still only scratch the surface of the possibilities with edimentals.

For example did you know all parts of a dahlia are edible ? or that nasturtium leaves make a great alternative to basil in pesto. The possibilities and recipes are endless so why not enter they world of edimentals for yourself and see what wonderful recipes you come up with.

Find out more on Orlaiths website:
http://www.orlaithmurphy.com

Orlaith also talks about her work as RHSI as administration and development officer. A body that is really important in promoting horticulture and gardening to a wider nationwide audience.  We hear all about the RHSI their partner gardens and their plans for the future.

09 Sep 2022EP141- Gardening Jobs For September00:28:37

Send Me A Message!!

In this weeks episode John chats about some of the gardening jobs for the month of September. While the sowing and planting is slowing down in the edible garden there are still so much we can do.

In the edible garden we can still sow some of the hardy leafy greens that will gives us greens through autumn and winter. These include Mizuna, Claytonia, Spinach, Rocket and more. Don't be afraid to sow lots of these because at this time of the year they won't run to seed or both the way they would in the summer.

Tomatoes pinch out the growing tip this month because all the tomatoes won't ripen if it keeps reaching for the skies so by pinching out the growing tip the plants put the energy into growing and  ripening what's on the plant already.

Source your autumn sowing onions and garlic now for planting in Oct/Nov.

In the rest of the garden there are also lots we can be doing.

  •  tidy up beds removing all dying foliage and flowers.
  • Trim hedges, trees and hedges to get them in shape
  • Set up rainwater harvesting
  • Save seed from flowers and vegetables

These are just some of the jobs I will be doing this month in the garden. Enjoy whatever you are doing.

14 Oct 2022EP146 Autumn Planting Bulbs For Spring Colour00:29:16

Send Me A Message!!

In this weeks episode John chats all about Autumn planting bulbs for beautiful blooms next spring.

Autumn planting/ spring flowering bulbs really are a gardeners dream for many reasons including

  • They add colour and lift your mood when not much else is flowering.
  • Can be planted in the ground or in containers.
  • When you chose your varieties well you can have flower from Jan to May.
  • Many will naturalise and spread so the 10 you plant this year will become 15 next year and increase the impact year on year.
  • You don't need to have gardening experience to be successful with them
  • Colours and styles for all situations and gardens.
  • They signal the end of winter and highlight the hope of spring
  • Bulbs are inexpensive for the impact they provide.
  • Colour schemes can be easily chosen

So as you can see there are so many reasons to grow bulbs so get out there and get growing.

11 Nov 2022EP150 Non Stop Rain, Winter planters, No Dig Gardening & More00:28:24

Send Me A Message!!

In this weeks episode John chats about the extremely wet weather we have had in Ireland since the beginning of October and how that will impact the start of the bareroot season.

Starting a No Dig garden is also discussed and the benefits of No Dig. A question that is asked regularly is how much compost will I need to start my no dig beds ? Well lets look at an example of that
Lets say I want to make a bed 6m x2m and I will put the compost 15cm deep in year 1 (down to 5cm in subsequent years)

So the sums are:
6 m x 2m
600cm x 200cm = 120,000 sq cm
15cm deep x 120,000 = 1,800,000 cubic cm
move decimal 6 places = 1.8 cubic mtr of compost required.

In the following years you would change the 15cm deep to 5cm deep and use the same formula to see how much you require in year 2 etc.

John also talks about planting ideas for your winter planters, hanging baskets and more.

09 Dec 2022EP154- Jeff Lowenfels Chats About His Latest Book Teaming With Bacteria00:44:39

Send Me A Message!!

In this week's episode of the podcast John chats with Jeff Lowenfels who is the author of a new book “Teaming with Bacteria” described as The Organic Gardener’s Guide to Endophytic Bacteria and the Rhizoghagy Cycle”

Now this sounds quite scientific but when you hear about bacteria and the function, they have in the soil then you will begin to understand why it is so important to nurture them so that you can reap their benefits.

Jeff’s other books all under the Teaming with series include Teaming with Microbes, Teaming with Nutrients, and Teaming with Fungi.

In this episode you will hear all about how these mighty garden friends can help you in your garden. What is clear when you are promoting the soil food web in your garden. Through mulching, compost adding and especially using no dig gardening you are providing all your plants need. The microbes, fungi, and bacteria become your garden friends and will provide so many benefits many of which you cannot even know until you see it.

Benefits such as higher yield, healthier more resilient plants, and super healthy soil. So, it is becoming clear to me, and I hope to you that we need to nurture our soil to start getting the benefits in our gardens.

Interestingly Jeff is also the longest serving garden columnist in North America so get his books the Teaming With series of books. For more information you can find Jeff here.

Send Me A Message!!

After an extremely wet October and November here in Ireland we have now had a couple of weeks without rain, just as the ground was beginning to dry out enough to allow the bare-root season to start we get heavy frosts. These frost in the long run might actually help to dry out the ground but for now they frozen soil means no planting can start.

In this weeks episode John answers  a listeners question about should they plant their bare-root hedge now or wait until after the frosts have passed .

20 Jan 2023EP158- How To Create A Fruit Garden With Your Children This Bareroot Season00:31:21

Send Me A Message!!

This weeks episode is a topical one and is suggested by a listener of the podcast. Stephen says "Fruits especially soft fruit are a winner with kids and engages them in gardening" it surely is and the bareroot season is the best time to go and create this fruit garden.

In the bareroot season you can get a better selection of varieties bareroot, bareroot fruit trees/ bushes are easy to establish if planted now and it is a more cost effective way of creating a fruit garden than using all potted plants later in the year.

We all want our children to eat their fruit and veg all the time. But getting them to eat veg in their younger years can be difficult. We don't have that same problem with fruit it is always easy to get them to eat their fruit and what better than home grown, fresh, great tasting, nutrient dense fruit that you have grown together.

So give it a go this bareroot season and be sure to get the children involved even at the early stages of planting.

27 Jan 2023EP159- Planning Your Vegetable Garden This January00:26:30

Send Me A Message!!

January is a month when the promise and excitement of a new growing season kicks in and already, I see people posting pictures online of sowing vegetables. When this happens many of us feel like we are behind but in January even if you sow no seed, you are not behind.

In a month's time we will have about an hour more sunlight every day and at that stage sowing will make more sense to me at least.

You can get planning though and boring as this may sound it will be the foundation to your ongoing success throughout the growing year.

So, plan what you want to sow, the amounts you will need and get rid of the seed that did not work or that nobody liked. This is your garden, do it your way and I will help you along the way with monthly sowing guides.

Get your seed potatoes now and have them ready to go see below the link to both the blog and podcast on growing potatoes successfully

03 Feb 2023EP160- Paul Smyth Head Gardener Chats About RHSI Bellefield, Snowdrop Open Days & Much More00:43:26

Send Me A Message!!

In this weeks episode I chat to Paul Smyth who has recently been appointed as head gardener of RHSI Bellefield. Paul originally would have worked in the garden around 10 years ago as part of his college placement with the gardens creator Angela Jupe.

Angela became a mentor to Paul over the years and following her passing the house and gardens were left to the RHSI with the long term aim of creating a gardening training / centre of excellence which is now  in the early stages of development.

What an amazing legacy to leave the Irish Horticultural scene and one which will benefit and inspire gardeners for years to come under the leadership of the RHSI and head gardener Paul.

10 Feb 2023EP161-Ingrid Smyth GLDA Chats About The 2023 GLDA Seminar "Letting Nature In"00:40:19

Send Me A Message!!

In this weeks episode John is joined by Ingrid Smyth, garden designer and member of GLDA to speak about the much anticipated 2023 GLDA seminar "Letting Nature In" With excellent speakers including Barry Kavanagh, Mary Reynolds, Randall Plunkett & Taina Suonio all looking at the theme letting nature in and talking about their experiences of letting nature in with there own unique situations.

Letting Nature In Listening to the rhythm of nature and capturing its essence in the designed landscape.

This year, we are focusing on how we should shift our attention to the essence of what makes our landscapes distinctive and how to preserve and capture the spirit and atmosphere of the garden. Design for the landscape should always be adapted for the context of where it is located. How a deeper understanding of the existing context influences our design choices and creates better planning to protect and enhance the richness of the existing ecosystem and biodiversity.

17 Feb 2023EP162- Gardening Trends For 2023 With Andrew Bunting Vice President of Horticulture at Pennsylvania Horticultural Society00:48:33

Send Me A Message!!

In this weeks episode John is joined by Andrew Bunting Vice President of Horticulture at Pennsylvania Horticultural Society to chat about Pennsylvania Horticultural Society gardening trends for 2023 survey.

ABOUT PENNSYLVANIA HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY

The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society (PHS), an internationally recognized nonprofit organization founded in 1827, uses horticulture to advance the health and well-being of the Greater Philadelphia region.

1.    Gardens with ecological functions – People are continuing to see their gardens as part of a larger ecosystem. Through incorporating native and pollinator plants, gardeners are creating habitats for insects and birds.
2.    “Leave the Leaves” – This movement encourages people to leave their leaves and convert them into compost, mulch, or fertiliser to reduce landfill waste.
3.    Reducing dependence on fossil fuels – Many natural gas-powered garden machines such as mowers, weed whips, chainsaws, and leaf blowers are being phased out for battery-operated options which help to reduce carbon footprint.
4.    Water-wise gardens and plants – With global climate events and increasingly erratic weather patterns including extended periods of drought, there is an increased need to consider water-wise gardens,  gravel gardens, and drought-tolerant plants.
5.    The houseplant craze continues – Houseplants have become an essential part of home décor, health and wellness planning, and social activities. With an increasing number and diversity of houseplants widely available through garden centers,
6.    “Fall is for planting” – Fall has been promoted for the last 20 years as a favorable time in the gardening season to plant perennials, shrubs, and trees. Now, fall is being promoted as a time to add color to the garden too! Garden centers now offer a wide selection of annuals and seasonal plants for fall visual interest, all featuring cold tolerance, beautiful foliage, or interesting fruits and berries.
7.    Amazing Aroids – These popular houseplants that feature distinctive, tropical, and often uniquely patterned foliage continue to grow in popularity such as Philodendron, Scindapsus, Anthurium, Alocasia, and Colocasia, while some rare species like ‘Pharaoh’s Mask’ have sold for hundreds of dollars.
8.    Food gardening thrives – The COVID-19 pandemic prompted a dramatic increase in food insecurity and the need to grow food. People are discovering that even with minimal pace they can grow produce throughout many months of the year; feeding themselves, and even sharing with neighbours.

24 Feb 2023EP163- What's Seeds To Sow Now At The End Of February00:24:03

Send Me A Message!!

In this weeks episode John chats about what vegetable seed he is sowing now. February is a funny month some years it can be very cold like in  2022 and other years it can be dry and mild like this year.

When you get a February like we just had with good weather it really feels like spring has arrived and we get sowing our seeds at pace. While I am getting going now I will still go gently over the next few weeks sowing some but not all seed. From now on daylight hours increase rapidly and this is exactly what we need for seed sowing.

So for this month what I am sowing in modules for planting outside later are onions, leeks, early cabbage, cauliflower & Calabrese. I will sow spring onion, spinach, lettuce in module trays to plant in the poly tunnel and direct sow beetroot, radish and carrots.

I will also sow with heat a small few tomatoes, peppers and chilli. I also may eventually decide to sow broad beans after avoiding for so long.  I will also sow some dill, parsley, rosemary and more herbs.

I will also start to sow perennial and annual flowers to add to the beds and around the veg.

10 Mar 2023EP165- What To Sow In March & Other Gardening Jobs00:22:55

Send Me A Message!!

10th March 2023 Master My Garden Podcast

What seeds to sow in March? In this week's episode John chats about what vegetable seeds to sow in March? What flower seed to sow in March? John also chats about other gardening Jobs for the month of March.

Firstly, as many of you know I always talk about knowing your area in terms of seed sowing and planting out because all areas are different. Many of you will be lucky enough to be in an earlier area such as in west Cork, Kerry, or other areas along the south coast of Ireland. However, for the rest of us it is still too cold and will continue to be for much of the month of March.

So, most of what we will sow now will be sown indoors in module trays for planting outside in early April.

Seed I am sowing Indoor in Module trays for Planting out In April.

Spinach, Lettuce, Scallions/Spring Onion, Early cabbage, Early Cauliflower, Calabrese, Onion, Broad Bean, Celery, Leeks

Seed I am sowing Indoor in Module trays for Planting in tunnel.

Parsley, Dill, Coriander & Celery

Seed I am sowing Indoor on heat for Planting in tunnel.

Aubergine, Tomato, Chili Pepper, Bell Pepper & Squash (late in month).

I am direct sowing in my polytunnel.

Beetroot, Radish, Carrot & Turnip

I will also plant early potatoes (Red Duke of York) into my polytunnel late in the month and I am currently heating up the ground where they will be planted with black plastic, so the temperature is nice and warm at planting time.

17 Mar 2023EP166- Soil Health The Cornerstone Of A Successful Garden00:23:15

Send Me A Message!!

Soil health is the cornerstone of successful gardening and particularly growing your own food. This is something I am sure on, if below the surface is healthy then above the surface (what you grow) will be excellent.

I wasn't always aware of this and when I studied horticulture it wasn't something that was of high importance. But through observation initially I came to realise that it is the number 1 most important aspect of growing food successfully.

How do I grow my own food ? Well the answer to this question has many elements from sowing to planting, planning etc etc but soil health if got right will make everything else easier and more successful.

The good news for us home gardeners is that improving soil health is quiet easy and generally starts with the addition of organic matter which feeds the soil life. The soil food web is complex and many scientists dedicate their lives to understanding it but for us the addition of quality organic matter will lead us to healthy soil and abundant crops. Fact!

Keep an eye out over the coming weeks for my online Grow Your own food course in the coming weeks and of course soil health is mentioned quiet a bit.

You can also check out these two episodes which include soil health and the benefits of no dig gardening.

07 Apr 2023EP169-What Vegetables You Can Sow In April & What Seeds I am Sowing This Month00:21:21

Send Me A Message!!

What vegetables to sow in April? That's what we are talking about in this weeks episode.

The list of seeds we can sow in April in the veg garden is long but it does vary from year to year. For example we have had here in Ireland one of the wettest March's on record with rain almost every day. This has meant that the ground is very wet and because of that very cold. In other years we could have a warm and dry March and sowing outside may be possible in certain areas in early April.

There are still so many seeds we can be sowing and it is a busy month in the garden.

Seed to sow in short successions 7 days in module trays for planting out later:

  • Spinach
  • Lettuce (all types)
  • Spring Onions
  • Peas shoots

Seed to sow medium successions 10-14 days in module trays for planting out later:

  • Early Cabbage
  • Cauliflower
  • Calabrese

Seed to sow once or in long successions 30 days in module trays for planting out later:

  • Leeks
  • Onions (last sowing mid April)
  • Chard (I only sow once a year and harvest from small number of plants for 12 months)
  • Peas
  • Herbs Coriander, Dill, Parsley

Seed to with heat or late in April.

  • Squash
  • Pumpkin
  • Sweetcorn
  • Cucumber
  • Courgette

Seed to sow short successions in ground outside (if temperatures increase) or in greenhouse.

  • Early carrots
  • Parsnip
  • Radish
  • Spinach
  • Beetroot

I will also be sowing annual flowers like marigolds, calendulas, nasturtium, cornflower, cosmos and more. I will also sow some perennials like Dahlia, Verbena, Lupin  and some biennials like Foxglove.

Its a busy month so keep sowing or in some cases start sowing and be sure to protect young seedlings from slugs and the harsh spring weather.

There will be a blog post on this episode very soon on my website. This blog and previous blogs along with all podcast episodes are available on Master My Garden website.

14 Apr 2023EP170- With Terrible Weather How Do We Look After Our Young Seedlings This April00:26:19

Send Me A Message!!

How to look after young plants in spring is the topic on this week's episode of Master My Garden podcast.

Yet again up to the 14th of April 2022 we have had a horrible start to the month weather wise with wind, lots of rain, chilly days, and night frosts these are far from ideal conditions for the seedlings we have sowed and minded for the last few weeks.  If you want to check out the weather in your local area of Ireland check out the below website and tap on the nearest weather station to you.
https://www.met.ie

So, John looks at how to mind all those seedlings you have been minding and growing on your windowsill or greenhouse. At this stage, your seedlings are really looking for more space and looking to get into the ground, but the weather and the different weather threats such as frost, hail, heavy showers, and wind can all severely damage and even kill your precious little seedlings. So, what can we do to ensure we can make sure they reach their full potential over the coming months?

So here is what we can do to protect our seedlings:

·      Bring them outside during any mild days to toughen them up.

·      Use frost fleece and after a night's frost do not remove the following morning until noon.

· Use bio netting/ environmesh this will protect from hail, heavy showers, and wind when you get your seedling out into your beds. This netting allows water and air through, so it is a healthy environment inside for plants.

·      Feed them with seaweed fertilizer this will help them to harden up and will toughen the cells of the leaves and stems.

·      Earth up potatoes as they start to peep out of the ground

05 May 2023EP173 What To Sow In May & Other Gardening Jobs00:31:03

Send Me A Message!!

What to sow in May?

May is a busy month for sowing in the garden and while for the last few months we have been doing all our sowing inside in module trays or pots now we can start direct sowing into the ground.

So, what seeds can you sow in May?

In the ground directly sow beetroot, carrots, turnip, parsnip, swede, lettuce, spinach, spring onions, radish, chard and more. Some of these I will sow in small amounts on a successional basis other such as parsnip which does not run to seed easily, I will sow a larger amount and do further sowings in June.

I will continue to sow my successional vegetables in small amounts in module trays in these I will sow Cabbage, Cauliflower, Calabrese, Brussell sprouts, Leeks etc.

In the greenhouse I will also be sowing pumpkin, sweetcorn, runner bean, celery, French beans, cucumber, courgette and I will also be trying melon this year in my polytunnel.

You can also sow most herbs this month. The herbs I will be sowing in May include coriander, basil, dill, parsley.

Also, many annual flowers can also still be sown these include marigold, nasturtium, nigella, cornflower, and calendula. I will also sow some Dahlia and other perennials this month.

It is important to continue to sow seed even when your beds look full so that you have some plants ready to fill your beds after your first harvest.

26 May 2023EP176- Pest & Disease Problems In Your Garden. What can we do ?00:31:19

Send Me A Message!!

Many gardeners are experiencing pest & disease problems at the moment so in this weeks episode John looks at the various pests and diseases and what we can do to ensure they don't become too big of an issue.

My mantra is as always a healthy plant is less susceptible to pests and diseases so that's where we start. The way to having healthy plants is to have healthy soil and that is the starting point. From there we look at best husbandry to not give diseases the conditions they like to take hold. Then we look at having lots of biodiversity in our gardens which will bring a natural balance and the beneficial creatures will assist us in our pest control.

Some treatments may be necessary so John covers all the usual pest and diseases we encounter in our gardens and talks about the solutions available to take care of these.

09 Jun 2023EP178- Listeners Question On Garden Fencing Answered00:30:56

Send Me A Message!!

In this week's episode John answers, a listener's question which comes from Imelda Morice. The question is as follows.

Imelda here from France, we spoke several months ago at the time of your 100th podcast!

We own a house and garden in Ireland, in Mayo on the coast, and we need to change the fence around the garden. I have never done this before and I am anxious to avoid mistakes that I might regret later. The present fence is made of timber, (I have photos if you wish to see them) it is 20 years old and collapsing in some parts. The fence is shared with neighbors, it is on a small estate. Wind is a big issue.

I would appreciate any tips or pointers you could mention during the podcast, what questions to put to the contractors, should I try to include any features which would be useful later, what shortcuts are possible or on the other hand should be avoided.

Hoping you can help me with this. I am still listening faithfully as I do the ironing!

Have a good day. Imelda

So, John answers this question and hopes this advice may help others contemplating doing a fencing project in their garden.

Also here is the link to the great episode on exterior painting as mentioned in the episode.

Send Me A Message!!

John is joined by Diarmuid Gavin show ambassador for Garden Show Ireland to chat about the show and the recently completed Coronation Garden Diarmuid completed.

Garden Show Ireland returns to Antrim Castle Gardens

The three-day gardening extravaganza takes place from 16-18 June 2023

Now in its 19th year, the show runs from Friday 16 – Sunday 18 June and is expected to attract some 30,000 visitors across the weekend.

Northern Ireland’s largest gardening festival, the horticulture showcase is bigger and better than ever before with a great programme featuring a range of horticultural experts.

Taking inspiration from acclaimed garden designer Diarmuid Gavin’s magical, mechanical Jubilee Garden, this year’s show is adopting ‘Pure Imagination’ as its theme for 2023 as weird and wonderful exuberance meets gardening excellence.

Diarmuid and distinguished plantsman Paul Smyth get potty about pots with an enormous co-designed plant pot display, a centrepiece of the show that must be seen to be believed.

Serving up plenty of ideas and inspiration for your own garden, green-fingered veterans and budding gardeners can soak up expert advice from the industry’s brightest, uniting with specialist plant growers to celebrate this year’s bloom and share creative insights across a range of Workshops, panel discussions and masterclasses on topics ranging from flower farming and growing your own produce to pots, planting and gardening for small spaces.

Cultivating knowledge, Diarmuid will be joined by gardening extraordinaires Marie Staunton, Paul Smyth, Michael Kelly, Biruk Hailu, Klaus Laitenberger, Geoff Stebbings and Brian McCarthy for panel discussions on topics including gardening for health, food empathy, zero waste, indestructible plants, how to achieve year-round colour and more.

For the amateur, take part in masterclasses and come away with the inspiration and know-how to create your own dream garden, and for the novice, dust off those gardening utensils for some hands-on workshops guided by experienced organic gardeners and innovators.

Klaus Laitenberger will host a series of demonstrations on seed growing and propagation while the Northern Ireland Flower and Foliage Association (NIFFA) will deliver workshops on foraging for table arrangements, sustainable floristry techniques, wearable floral creations and more.

Show ambassador Diarmuid Gavin said: “I’m so excited about this year’s Garden Show Ireland which is going to be different to any other Show"

23 Jun 2023EP181- Do You Consider The Environmental Impact When You Purchase Gardening Equipment ?00:28:00

Send Me A Message!!

Do you consider the environment when you buy garden equipment?

Having visited a garden trade show this week John chats about garden equipment, and how some equipment which we might perceive as environmentally friendly because, for example, the name says 100% recycled may not be environmentally friendly.

At the show John came across many companies talking about and highlighting products made from recycled material but are these products always environmentally friendly?  Is everything as it appears, and should our purchasing decisions be influenced by this messaging or by something else, something with more depth?

John has always believed by purchasing better quality equipment from credible suppliers this in the long-term is much a much better purchase from an environmental perspective. This week he came across the LCA Life Cycle Assessment which looks at a product from cradle to the grave and this shows that by buying better quality equipment which lasts a long time your environmental impact is lower.

This is something we should all be conscious of when making purchasing decisions of any sort.

14 Jul 2023EP184- How To Take Softwood Cuttings ?00:23:48

Send Me A Message!!

Is it too late to take softwood cuttings? That was a listener query from last week.

Technically mid-July is a little late if you follow textbook rules, however, I have always found that they will root perfect at this stage of the year.

What will I need to take softwood cuttings?

  • An airy growing media you can mix perlite through to add air to the rootzone.
  • A plastic zip lock bag to put cuttings in straight away to avoid transpiration.
  • Rooting powder is useful but not essential.
  • Small pots 9cm (about 3.54 in) to 12cm (about 4.72 in)
  • Plastic bag or propagator to cover cuttings after use.

How do I take softwood cuttings?

  • Take new fresh growth 10cm (about 3.94 in) just below a leaf node ideally with a set of leaves on the leaf node another set of leaves above and a growing tip.
  • Remove the bottom set of leaves and dip in rooting powder.
  • Fill your small pot with compost and make a hole 50mm (about 1.97 in) deep with a pencil.
  • Insert the cutting into the hole firm in and water.
  • Cover with a poly bag or propagator and keep in dappled sun (avoid full sun if possible)
  • Keep a regular eye on them to ensure they do not dry out and watch for the new roots which will appear in 3-4 weeks.
  • Then they can then be potted on to create a new plant to be planted out next spring.

28 Jul 2023EP186- What To Sow In The Month Of August In The Vegetable Garden00:23:27

Send Me A Message!!

In this weeks episode of Master My Garden podcast John looks at what to sow in the August vegetable garden.

August is generally is a month great harvests in our vegetable gardens. Great harvest means bare space when crops like onions, potatoes, garlic , cabbage, cauliflower etc come out. It is important to get these bare spaces filled back in with new crops for the Autumn and beyond.

When it comes to what we can sow in August the variety of seeds that we can actually sow is reducing dramatically month to month from a peak in May to almost nothing past September.

So what vegetables can we sow in August?

Direct sowing outside: ( all last sowing early in the month)

  • Spinach
  • Radish
  • Spring onion
  • Milan Purple Top/Snowball

Sowing in modules for planting outside:

  • Lettuce
  • Chard
  • Spring Cabbage
  • Kale
  • Pak Choi (better under cover of cloche)
  • Claytona (better under cover of cloche)
  • Mizuna (better under cover of cloche)
  • Tatsoi (better under cover of cloche)
  • Mustard (better under cover of cloche)

Sowing In modules for planting inside:

  • Spinach
  • Spring onion
  • Lettuce
  • Pak Choi
  • Claytona
  • Mizuna
  • Tatsoi
  • Mustard

Direct sowing inside:

  • Radish
  • Milan Purple Top/Snowball
  • Spring onion
  • Rocket
  • Spring Onion

If you do have bare ground and you don't plan on continuing to plant veg be sure to cover it with green manures to keep soil covered over winter.

Christmas potatoes can also be sown now this are generally first early varieties planted now to have new potatoes for Christmas dinner. I personally don't do this but if you want to you can get seed now in garden centres it must be seed harvested from the previous year which has gone through a period of dormancy.

06 Oct 2023EP196- Exploring Jennifer Jewell's Latest Book "What We Sow" On the Personal, Ecological and Cultural Significance of Seeds00:50:22

Send Me A Message!!

This weeks John chats with Jennifer Jewell gardener, garden writer & podcaster  all about her latest book. "What We Sow"

It is an enlightening discussion with Jennifer which takes us through her book and in doing so touches on so many areas of gardening. Jennifer's latest book, 'What We Sow,' delves into the profound personal, ecological, and cultural significance of seeds. A journey through her book uncovers the wide-reaching implications of seed production and distribution on our society and environment.

The conversation takes a sobering turn as we grapple with the reality of seed control. A handful of corporations govern the lion's share of the world's seeds, leading to a dependency in certain areas, and a surge in toxicity in our soils, waters, and food systems.
Jennifer urges us to reconsider our seed purchases, advocating for small, local, or mid-size regional seed networks. Choosing seed that is locally grown, harvested and shareable gives seeds their importance as it should be a life force rather than a commodity.
She beautifully illustrates the metaphor of seeds representing the creative life force all across the world and the power held within seeds. The episode also delves into the revival of seed keeping networks and the significance of cultivating culturally relevant plants.

As we challenge traditional gardening perceptions, Jennifer invites us to create diverse, dynamic, and ecologically beneficial gardens that are not just aesthetically pleasing but also contribute to environmental diversity.

As you join us on this fascinating exploration of seeds with Jennifer, prepare to shift your gardening perspective and explore its deeper, more significant implications.

It is a great chat and the book is superb if you want to find Jennifer her books or the Cultivating Place Podcast you can find all on her website

20 Oct 2023EP198- Listener Question How To Create Shelter In My Windswept Garden.00:24:19

Send Me A Message!!

What if you could transform your windswept hill into a serene shelter with just the right selection of trees? This intriguing possibility is the core of this weeks episode when're John answers a listeners question. Peggy from County Cavan asks what fast growing trees she can use to to create shelter in her garden which is situated on a windswept hill.

We venture into the realm of horticultural wisdom, explaining why conventional choices like poplars may not be the best fit for a windswept hill and why a solid block of trees might not be the solution to her problem. Instead, we encourage Peggy to observe her local area keenly, learn what trees thrive there, and consider our recommendations on native trees that would make excellent windbreaks.

But we're not stopping there! Picture this – a mini forest, naturally filtering the wind and creating a microclimate that fosters the growth of trees that wouldn't usually withstand harsh conditions. Shaping this vision is our proposal to Peggy to plant native alder trees on the outer perimeter of her site and other fast-growing native trees like birch, aspen, and willow to create a 'mini forest' effect. We explore the benefits of this innovative approach, how it can result in a microclimate, and how it opens the door for other trees to flourish. This episode is a treasure trove of practical tips and inventive ideas for everyone passionate about gardening and horticulture. So, tune in and let's create some magic on that windy hill!

We'll also share how to prepare for the coming year with new beds and plantings. So, don't let the soggy season keep you away from your garden, join us and discover the joy of November gardening!

The main November gardening Jobs to outline are

  • Take hardwood cutting. Late Autumn & Winter are perfect for taking hardwood cuttings many plants can be propagated this way including roses, hydrangeas, buddlejas, viburnum and many more. Take cuttings approx 9"to12" long cut below a leaf node and stick into a well drained soil or in a pot by late next spring rooted will have formed and you will have a new plant.

01 Dec 2023EP204- Christmas Gift Ideas For Gardeners 2023 With Fellow Gardeners Stela & Julie Anne.00:58:01

Send Me A Message!!

In this weeks episode I chat with two fellow gardeners Stela & Julie-Anne all about, The Best Christmas Gifts For Gardeners.

Having covered this episode before on Master My Garden podcast John was delighted to be joined by the ladies and to hear the types of gifts on their lists suitable for gardeners.

One of the overriding themes from all was to buy quality gifts that would stand the test of time and focus on sustainable gifts for the garden.

Included on the lists were lots of really interesting gifts such as:

  • Felco secateurs
  • Gardening clothing such as beautiful and practical aprons. Hats to protect from sun and gloves designed for specific tasks.
  • A pass to every open garden in Ireland was Julie-Anne's "money no object gift" while Stela opted for a beautiful glasshouse.
  • Both would love plants or seed but only if they offered a special connection such as snowdrop's which remind Julie Anne of her grandmother and Stela who has a beautiful rose which was gift from a family member who visited after covid having not seen each other for some time.
  • Garden seeds were high on the lists but again should also only be gifted with a little insight into the person who will receive. Also supporting local seed companies was very important for us all.
  • Gardening courses both in person and online were something both would like and  many courses and providers were mentioned. John also mentioned his first online course to go live which is his "Grow Your Own Food Course" which teaches people to grow their own food from scratch. You can find out more here https://mastermygarden.com/courses-2/

These are just some of the superb gifts on the lists. Our special guests, Stela and Julie-Anne, are here to guide you through a wonderland of gardening delights - from practical tools to comfortable attire. It's time to ditch the gift cards and surprise your gardening-obsessed loved ones with something they'll really appreciate!

I hope wherever you are gardening that you find some of these super gifts under your Christmas tree this year.

So pull on those gardening gloves and let's cultivate a year of growth that's as rewarding as it is beautiful, all while sidestepping the stress of premature planting.

Welcome to Master My Garden, where we plant with purpose and harvest with heart.
