09 Aug 2023 | WORKWEAR: why it matters what you wear to do projects in + DIY Wear Line Launch! | 00:30:38
I'm launching a women's DIY wear line this week and some people on the Internet are big, mad about it, which I find very entertaining. We're not really here to get into the intricacies of the trolling, but this is opening up a larger conversation that's super important and that is: why does it matter what you wear to do DIY projects in?
There's lots of angles to this because there's lots of ways this can look, anything from the everyday person painting a wall in your house, all the way up to women in the trades and actual workwear that needs to be safe and OSHA certified. I think this is a really really important conversation. The Internet does too.
PURCHASE DIY WEAR between August 8-10, 2023: buy a set

02 Aug 2023 | I bought an 1840's DUMPSTER FIRE + my real estate investing journey | 00:45:22
This episode, I think it's gonna be very fun because it's story time. I'm gonna share my journey of real estate investing in a very transparent way. If you don't know, what you don't know, and you don't even know where to get started, seeing an example and template of what it could look like can inform what parts are for you and what are not.
Essentially, real estate investing has always been something I was attracted to from the very beginning and it was always like a black box when I talk to people about it as far as how to do it. I think it's a really hot topic now, especially in light of COVID. There's like the rise of the short term rental market that happened during that era now is kind of uncertain as to what the future of that looks like. There's a lot of things at play on a large scale.
So, I want this to be my raw and real story of how I did, what I did, and what I'm doing, so that it can help you if you're interested in real estate investing to see what's possible.

07 Jun 2023 | Home Therapy: How your home can have a MAJOR impact on your life & what to do about it with Therapist + Interior Designer Anita Yokota | 00:48:30
What would you do differently if you knew your home affected how you feel and there was scientific evidence to back it up? Spoiler alert, it does and we’re digging into how it works with Anita Yokota. Anita is a therapist turned interior designer and author of the bestselling book, Home Therapy. With a Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy (LMFT), Anita spent 20 years and thousands of hours in the field counseling patients before realizing she craved a more creative path. "As a working mom, my emotional plate was full. I felt depleted and decided it was time for a change."
With an architect for a father and a real-estate mother, Anita knew interior design was her next calling. What started in her own home quickly expanded to design clients throughout Southern California and grew to include a contracting business with her husband. The pair live in Southern California with their three daughters.
Anita discusses where therapy and interior design intersect and how the domains in your home affect the relationships you have within it and the very energy felt when you walk through the door.

14 Jun 2023 | Budgets, small spaces & surprises: working with limitations to create your dream home | 00:29:05
I believe 80% of design dilemmas can be solved with more creativity. But you may be feeling like your budget or your space is limiting what kind of a vision you can create in your home. So we're talking about working within your limits, and working with your limits when it comes to home decor design DIY renovation projects. You may actually find this to be a fun topic because I think on the surface, everyone's scared to talk about money or it's uncomfortable to talk about money, especially women, but I also believe your budget can be a healthy design parameter.

26 Jul 2023 | Travel-Inspired Home Design: How to use your experiences to shape your home's function and story + insights from The Louvre | 00:36:26
Today's episode is all about travel and how travel can inspire architecture and design. I just got back from a trip to Europe and I was feeling very inspired, and also assessing how I was going to translate the inspiration into my house. We’re going to break down practical steps for how to do that. I also want to give you some fun insights because I visited a couple really cool museums around design and architecture that I think have some really cool ideas where, especially if you didn't go to design school and study the history of design in-depth, this is like the Cliff Notes version, that will help you use it in your house versus having to spend years studying furniture styles and how they evolved.

13 Sep 2023 | Navigating the custom home build process, construction loans + DIY Renovations with Timisha Porcher | 00:48:25
In this episode, Cara sits down with ToolBox Divas Founder and former commercial banker, Timisha Porcher, diving into navigating the custom home build process, construction loans, and DIY renovations.
She also dishes on what it’s like to keep all the details in order, choosing a quality builder, talking to your bank and getting permits.
Timisha is a country girl from a small town outside of Charleston SC. She’s always been fascinated with building things like furniture, cabinets and anything home related and while she started her career becoming a commercial banker, she was always making things for her home and repairing anything in need of repair. The knowledge she gained allowed me to become more confident and self-reliant tackling her own home improvement projects. Eventually her talent was noticed by friends and family, and she realized lots of women were uneasy with Do-It-Yourself (DIY) tasks and even afraid to try. She found her calling, creating Toolbox Divas, to help women conquer the unknown and to take charge of their own home.

04 Oct 2023 | What It Means to “Make Space” In Your Home and What Might Be Holding You Back from Creating Your Dream Spaces | 00:40:27
When I named this podcast there was a double-sided meaning here. On one hand “making space” means making your spaces, taking charge of DIY and projects, and really just stepping up and taking charge of the process of designing a home that you are obsessed with and everything that comes but it also is about making it all apply to you and what you want out of your space.
I thought this was the perfect time to take an episode to really unpack what it means to “make space” in your home because I think as we begin the year there are a lot of additions you feel you need to add to your life. Those things feel like they can pile up and be overwhelming. So listen in as we dive into what it really means to “make space” in your home.

03 Nov 2021 | #056: Creating a home that serves you in every phase of life + tips from a fashion legend with Design Icon Norma Kamali | 00:53:26
On the show today, I have a design icon. I am sitting down with Norma Kamali who is most well known as a fashion designer but is so much more. You might know her from her designing pieces such as the Sleeping Bag Coat worn by Lady Gaga and Rihanna or the iconic red swimsuit worn by Farrah Fawcett. Not only can we learn so much from such an iconic designer when it comes to how to design our spaces, but there are also some really cool specifics we get to dive into like her book, I Am Invincible. Her book is a life handbook for how to navigate each decade of your life with purpose and power.
We talk so much on this show about how life is in phases and our homes reflect that. With each season of our life, our home is going to look very different based on what we need. With all her vast experience, Norma has such a beautiful and unique perspective for how to design your life well, how your home reflects that and how to move through each phase of your life. This is such a beautiful conversation about what empowerment and our spaces can look like through each phase of our lives. I think this conversation is going to be above and beyond what we normally get on the show in terms of life advice as well as some home design strategies mixed in.

17 Nov 2021 | #057: Transforming Your Space with Furniture You’re Obsessed With with Amy Howard | 00:44:27
On the show today, I have a very special guest. It is someone that has inspired me immensely on my own DIY journey and I am beyond honored to be able to have this conversation with her so that she can hopefully inspire you as well. Today I am sitting down with Amy Howard who is a powerhouse when it comes to furniture restoration and furniture flipping. Amy has a background in art history and teaches furniture restoration. This conversation is really special because flipping furniture is how I initially got started with DIY.
Amy has the next-level version of this which is full-on restoration, really refined, finishes, and techniques that have been around for so many years. She just has a beautiful perspective and that really good artful eye for how to take pieces and make them into something magical. She does this through her product line, courses, and just showing up as an inspirational teacher day-to-day on social media across her platforms. I am excited to be able to deep dive with her into a little bit about furniture flipping and just get her perspective on designing spaces you love through creating pieces of furniture that you are obsessed with.

24 Nov 2021 | #058: Uncovering Your Design Style with Zandra Zuraw | 00:47:10
On the show today, I am sitting down with my friend Zandra Zuraw who is the host of the Style Matters podcast. We are going to talk all about uncovering your design style. Zandra has a really fun approach to this. She helps people through her podcast, retreats, and courses.
Her approach is all about slow style. Slow style is building your style over time. I really love this approach because it takes the pressure off that you have to have your space finished right now. It lets you experience, do things over time, and slowly uncover your style along the way.
