09 Feb 2022SQ 017 Wordle - Blood - Commander01:19:25

This week we try something new by playing a Magic the Gathering game of Commander (EDH), live and in person, while we talk about the games we've recently played. Andrew discusses the culinary horror of X2 Castle Amber run using Hyperborea 3E. Rob talks about the communal aspects of the addictively fun web-based game Wordle which was just sold to the New York Times for over $1 million. Zach wonders how many hundreds of hours he'll dedicate to the addictively fun Oxygen Not Included to keep his space colony alive. Steve is playing through Diogo Nogueira's Halls of the Blood King for a second time, but this time it's being run using Mystic Punks RPG as opposed to Old-School Essentials. Suffice it to say, vamps shall be staked yet again!

21 Feb 2022MD 014 Prince of the Carrion King w/ Matt Kelley (Exalted Funeral)01:33:58

Help a devoted ghoul king retrieve a cursed locket to reunite with the ghost of his long dead lover queen, but you inadvertently raise the dead and summon a sexually unobtainable Purple Prince demon lord. The overgrown graveyard turns into a bustling center of hot-rod zombies, greaser ghouls and preppy mummies all going on dates at a gruesome fast food joint, making out at the undead drive-in theater and engaging in groovy dance fights. Can you learn the moves of the four dance masters before the purple rain drags all of the enthralled lovers to the Purple Prince's hellish underworld?

This week's guest: Matt Kelley is the owner of Exalted Funeral, a DIY indie web store & small press publisher for RPG, heavy metal and occult literature. We talk about the Google+ days, the OSR, and how he sold his Magic: The Gathering cards to fund what is now one of the coolest communities built around a love of tabletop, zines and the dark arts.

The next big project is the Feb. 23 launch of Old-School Essentials Fantasy RPG Box Sets (OSE) from Necrotic Gnome. Support the Kickstarter HERE!

22 Mar 2022MD 015 Sword Art Island w/ Ginny Loveday (Designer's Den, D&D Adventurers League, MomoCon)02:02:01

You paid good money for the hottest ticket in town, an invite-only art exhibit on Sword Art Island by the world famous Two Hands Sword, a magic sword that helps the wielder create great works of art. You arrive at the island with university art students, and couples looking for a wine & paint date weekend. You’re greeted by the pretentious art critic, Al Success and his retinue of snobby snoobs and robot butlers. Something odd is happening on the island. One by one, people go missing. Can you solve the mystery of Sword Art Island?

This week's guest: Ginny Loveday is host of Designer’s Den on Twitch and co-host for the D&D Round Table podcast. She's a bestselling D&D designer/editor and Guild Adept for the DMsGuild, Social Media and Community for Baldman Games, RPG Director for MomoCon, Organizer for Maydays Tenday Online Charity Convention, Save vs Hunger, and D8 Summit charity conventions.

We talked about her participation with the Den of Assassins Kickstarter, Animal Adventures: the Faraway Sea, and her two D&D Epics Terror in Ten Towns and Ravenloft Mist Hunters.

21 Apr 2022MD 016 Blood Mud w/ Alyssa Fayden (fantasy cartographer)02:01:50

You’re recruited by a secret society to infiltrate the grand opening ceremony of the New Colosseum, a tasteless theme park built in and around the original Colosseum. Billionaire scoundrel artist and owner of the New Colosseum, Crassus Kapoor, has pilfered holy sites from around the world to build his grim epcot catacombs in the hypogeum beneath the Colosseum. His hubris causes the blood of 400,000 deaths to rise as undead graveyard elementals and murder the crowd. You can stop the mayhem by locating the four pieces of The Seal and return them to their shrine rooms in the labyrinth of the hypogeum!

This week's guest: Alyssa Faden is a professional cartographer and GenCon panelist since 2012. She's best known for her incredible cityscapes and stunning details. Her clientele includes Monte Cook Games, Kobold Press, Profantasy Software, Gygax Magazine, Golden Goblin Press, Troll Lord Games, and Frog God Games.

We talked about drawing Chaosium’s Gaslight London map, and doing research at The Library of Congress. Working on an updated "Cosmology of Roleplaying" from Gygax Magazine. Her 12-foot by 12-foot Tegel Manor battle map. How she listens to Antonio Vivaldi or audio books while she works, and her Dungeon Morph Tiles for INkwell Ideas.

Welcome to the Questing! Rob, true to form, is still grinding away at Elden Ring. We just want him to beat Melania in time for dinner. Steve and Andrew continue their 5e game helping to save a metaphorical Hobbiton. Andrew discusses Twilight Imperium, the game that keeps on giving. In other news, Spelljammer returns to D&D with a slew of new playable space races. We list them all, and determine which of them Rob prefers to make out with. Do you remember your first gaming moment? We discuss ours.

13 Jul 2022SQ 022 Castle Amber - Scythe - Funeral Camp00:34:57

Steve and Andrew conquer Castle Amber with their Hyperborea RPG characters. Lots of D&D 5E as Andrew races barbarian dragon riders for his annual birthday game, and they get into some political intrigue in their weekly 5E campaign between the orc hordes and their cyclops leader.

Andrew talks about Scythe and whether one should fight or farm with your massive steampunk mechs. He also played Survive: Escape From Atlantis where he flipped tiles and fought sea monsters, sharks & whales with his in-laws.

News: Exalted Funeral is doing their Summer 2022 Convention and free RPG giveaway called Funeral Camp July 15-17. They're giving away goodies and hosting online games & panels. Justin Sirois from Severed Books made slasher camp themed swag like a Jason Voorhees D20 patch and sticker sheet.

Goodman Games are having their DCC Day on July 16 with cool store giveaways of adventure modules and seven new dice sets call Dice of the Fallen God, a companion piece to their Book of the Fallen God adventure. Find participating stores here.

Andrew & Steve will be attending Southern Fried Gaming Expo (July 15-17) in Atlanta, looking for the TTRPG section, but getting distracted by the massive amount of pinball machines.

Dragon Warrior & Tiger Wizard were guests on the latest episode (#390) of Dragon Talk, the official WotC Dungeons & Dragons podcast, where you can hear origin stories, the wild amount of things we're making for the RPG community and our process for making art.

20 Jul 2022MD 018 The Witch of the Waves w/ Ed Greenwood (The Forgotten Realms, D&D, TSR)01:35:26

Captain Spike and his PiRat vikings have pillaged the coast of its precious paper and kidnapped villagers saying things like, “you look like a rat queen.” The villagers have collected a small amount of money to hire you to help them. The village leader introduces you to a swarm of rats in a trench coat who teleports you to The Witch of the Waves, a magical ship, to pursue Captain Spike to his lair so you can save the kidnap victims and stop this menace once and for all.

This week’s guest: Ed Greenwood. We talk about Lake Geneva, his character Elminster, creating The Forgotten Realms, and his clandestine meeting with Steve in Los Angeles. He’s recently worked on DMs Guild – Thay Land Of The Red Wizards. A new Volo’s Guide for a city we haven’t heard much from in the past.

He’s currently working with Andrew Valkauskas (creator/designer/publisher of the Fate Of The Norns RPG) on a complete, detailed fantasy city (Ath Cliath, or Viking-ruled Dublin, circa 835 AD) usable with any RPG but designed for Fate of the Norns: Ragnarok – The Children of Eriu. You can follow their progress via their Patreon.

27 Jul 2022SQ 023 Stacklands - Campy Creatures - Land of Eem00:47:11

Rob chills out to the lo-fi hip hop soundtrack of Stacklands while Steve and Andrew make Katamari Damacy and Magic: The Gathering jokes.

Andrew went on a field trip to Athens, GA and saw Tim Cappello, the sax player from the lost boys play. He stopped by FLGS The Rook & Pawn game cafe and played Campy Creatures & Parks by local game company Key Master Games.

Both Steve & Andrew went to Southern Fried Gaming Expo and played a slew of pinball and ancient video games, test played Panda Cult Game's upcoming Wander: LaClucks Revenge the follow up to Wander: The Cult of Barnacle Bay. Then played Captain Sonar and The Thing: The Boardgame (2022) into the wee hours of the night.

News: Andrew takes time to interview Ben Costa & James Parks to talk about their Backerkit campaign to fund their game Land of Eem, published by Exalted Funeral.

The Lord of the Rings meets The Muppets in this lighthearted fantasy tabletop roleplaying game! Land of Eem is packed with simple rules and resources that encourage players to be creative and make GMing easy.

EL Updates: Andrew is doing a fantasy art Epic Levels remix campaign through our instagram... lots of barbarian babes taking selfies and wizards trying pick up lines on dragons. Steve completely updated our website. Go ahead and dig around to keep up to date and find all our secrets. We've built out our discord server and its community is growing in really cool ways. 03 Aug 2022SQ 024 PUBG - Neon Lords - Big Eye Chungus00:57:00

Rob returns to their love/hate relationship with PUBG (PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds), but has no problem winning multiple chicken dinners on the latest 8x8 map, Deston.

Andrew finished running the Neon Lords of the Toxic Wasteland introductory adventure, Space Truckers Must Die. While Steve's character tried not to get addicted to vita-sticks, Sluggo Brand Neon Apple Snack Fruit Pies and plutonium nyborg (space meth).

In their D&D 5E game, Steve got into more political intrigue and survived an assassination attempt, and Andrew got into a boat pun-off with the other players as they fought a bevy of angels all due to Steve's character's lack of using the sending spell effectively.

News: BEHOLD! Andrew and Rob interview Levi Combs of Planet X Games about their latest kickstarter Big Eye Chungus, published by Exalted Funeral.

17 Aug 2022MD 019 Head Kicker! The Musical w/ Brian Shutter (Neon Lords of the Toxic Wasteland)01:51:07

You’re a tourist visiting the sweet-smelling hometown of Connor Woodpond, the one-hit-wonder mega-star who wrote your favorite song, “Furry Boots and Slick Razors,” but he hasn’t been seen in years. There’s something about this town that just makes you want to sing your feelings. After your opening number, a mysterious figure in a trenchcoat and fedora implores you to save the rec center from Head Kicker and his bitchin’ Camaro gang, The Mutated Mullets.

This week’s guest is Brian Shutter. We talk about Neon Lords of the Toxic Wastelands. Swingin’ swords and choppin’ lords vs. mutants and mullets. Their appendix N contains no books, but it does have music and movies like Mad Max and The Warriors. Brian’s favorite movie is Dawn of the Dead (1978) and we talk about the different VHS covers that were available. Brian does a show called “Wax Pax Massacres” where they open old trading card packs and eat the 40-year-old gum from it.

Neon Lords of the Toxic Wasteland "Total Carnage Edition" on Kickstarter!

His new kickstarter is up and we talk about stretch goals of temporary tattoos, pogs, and we recommend xeno smut posters and Lord Randy action figures.  In this game, character creation’s most important aspect is your hairstyle, and “attitude” is how cool you are in civilization, but sleaze (anti-charisma) is how much respect you get in the Wastelands.

This episode sponsored by Exalted Funeral, and we talk about their new release - Garth Grimgar's Guide to the Flora of the Dying World, a brand new supplement for MÖRK BORG.

These are the field notes of the famously reclusive Occult Herbmaster Garth Grimgar, found in the ruins of his hut years after his death. The precise meaning of Grimgar's astrological diagrams was known only to himself. It is a secret he has taken with him to his grave. Despite the possibility that he was dabbling in blasphemy, the Church Elders have elected to preserve his notes for the potentially useful knowledge they might contain.

09 Dec 2022Epic Levels' first Kickstarter - Armor Classy CDungeon00:09:35

We discuss our new Kickstarter project that launched today Friday, Dec. 9, and has funded! The Armor Classy CDungeon is a full-color, system-agnostic tabletop role-playing game adventure module based on Epic Level’s debut album Armor Classy, packaged in a digipak case with the full album on CD.

Support our Kickstarter here: Epic Levels - Armor Classy CDungeon

Inspired by a post-Gamehole Con visit to Wisconsin oddity attraction The House on the Rock, this mini-adventure features a ten-room dungeon crawl suitable for characters of any level written by Steve Albertson and illustrated by Tiger Wizard.

"We wanted to release something that would be a collectable art artifact," says Tiger Wizard, "that's also related to our music. It's been super fun drawing such a random assortment of oddball items and creatures, from whales to demons to smoking cauldrons."

In this adventure, Jordana Lex is throwing one of her famous swingin’, groovy, lounge parties in her space-age bachelor pad mansion. This year’s theme is “armor classy,” where warriors are encouraged to indulge in fun-loving hedonism, modernity, art, music & fashion. Come to mingle, or test your might in her deadly mansion to claim her latest acquisition, the DMG Codex.

Beef up your armor and weapons before you fight your way through diabolical cocktail parties, skeletal mammoths, tengu assassins, a satyr sorcerer, unicorn-headed nymphs, trippin’ liches, a carousel gauntlet, minotaur playboys, a whale vs. kraken fight, and musical puzzles to solve.

"I loved meshing the themes of our songs with The House on the Rock's gonzo weirdness," says Albertson." We spent a year-long campaign in Tom Moldvay's 1981 Castle Amber module and wanted to bring that same excitement of having no idea what might be on the other side of a door."

28 Dec 2022MD 023 Necroprancer and the Mall Santa Massacre w/ Zach Cowan02:10:11

In our season one finale, you’re wearing holiday themed costumes while volunteering at the mall’s Christmas Town when an evil wizard dressed as Prancer unleashes a ghost-blizzard santa-storm that sends the mall into an arctic pocket dimension. You must assemble the Candy Cane of Doom, confront Necroprancer, and reverse his necrocamera spell to save the holiday season across the multiverse.

We finish up an exciting first season with a wholesome family episode to celebrate the holiday season with our very own producer Zach Cowan. We discuss holiday traditions before building you a very special holiday dungeon of necromancy and consumerism.

18 Jan 2023MD 201 Celebratory Configuration w/ Zach Cowan00:38:32

Welcome to the first episode our Season 2! This time around we'll create a single room with each of our guests until we've populated an entire Mad Dungeon!

This week we talk about our plans for 2023 and our sweet new Mad Dungeon format.

Room 201 - Celebratory Configuration: This cyberpunk room is quartered into red, blue, green & yellow sections, and is cluttered with discarded tech trash. A hoarding gremlin is organizing it all by color.

In the center of the room is an infernal Tandy 1000 computer with a robotic hand on the back holding the Floppy Demonic Discus. Insert the Discus and the computer will turn on with text reading: “Would you like to play? y/n”

The game: The computer will show a random sequence of ten images (Apple=red, Sun=yellow, Frog=green, Water=blue). When you return it’s always +1 image. PCs must stand in a colored quadrant and say the color of the item in the sequence. Fail: get shocked for 1hp. Succeed: glow sticks fly out of the computer screen and wrap around the PCs necks, healing all damage and raising morale as cenobite party imps appear and throw you a bangin’ party.

25 Jan 2023MD 202 Shrine of the Technosaurus Rex with Zac Goins00:57:54

Shrine of the Technosaurus Rex: This room is covered in thick, sloppy, dripping layers of colorful paint. Each wall has a massive throbbing orifice that’ll occasionally spray a deluge of paint into the room. In the center of the room is a mound of paint covering long-dead cyber-sloths cultists, reaching to pull the lever that summons the T-Rex. An eldritch dial surrounding the lever can be moved to change the orifice liquids, 99% chance it’s paint.

Under the layers of paint, in a corner is a see-through gun-locker filled with magic acetone that’ll destroy paint and drain the color from anything. On the walls, under the paint, are the instructions on using the dials and summoning the T-Rex.

The T-rex is actually a painting service that’s violently malfunctioning, but can be fixed. It has a bite, stomp, tail whip and a harvestable tongue that’s a wand of paint spraying. If you are hit, save or suffer the following conditions: Yellow Bile: Stinks & sickens. Cyan Slow: Depression. That’s why they call it the blues. Black Slick:- Slippery like a grease spell. Magenta Brain Addle: Discuss your latest art project.

01 Feb 2023MD 203 Ichor Heart of War-Den w/ John “Hambone” McGuire (3,2,1...Action! Games, Vintage RPG)00:56:48

Ichor Heart of War-Den: This swampy room comes to life when you enter the chamber. Veins move black ichor throughout these walls and ceiling made of flesh and machine. Sprinkles of black ichor fill the room, making it difficult to breathe. The floor slants toward the center like a bowl, shifting and popping you into the air towards War-Den (Dex save).

War-Den is a 10-ft., sentient, beating robot heart of black diamond who’s spewing noxious fumes into the air. A legendary, emerald skull hovers above them. Their veiny, needle-tipped tendrils attempt to pump you full of the black ichor to turn you into a pollutor.

Pollutors are War-Den’s hive-mind cyborgs created to expel toxic fumes from their robotic parts to terraform the planet. Pollutors will always come to the aid of War-Den, especially if they or their emerald are taken.

08 Feb 2023MD 204 Vainglory Hole w/ Thorin Thompson (Owl Knight Publishing, Goodman Games)00:41:43

Vainglory Hole: This room is bisected. On one side is a washroom with three magic mirrors promising a better you. Mirror 1 (Charm Hole): Shows you with great charisma, beautiful, a leader. Mirror 2 (3rd Eye Hole): Shows you with a 3rd eye in your forehead and with infinite cosmic power. Mirror 3 (Power Hole): Shows you with massive muscles and dexterous ability. None of the mirrors do what they promise.

There’s a stand that’s holding instructional pamphlets on how to use the magic mirrors and their benefits. A lock box labeled “tips” is there for you to leave some money, but it’s trapped with a slime shotgun if you attempt to steal the money. A wash basin filled with stinging salty water has a sign that reads, “Rinse after using the mirrors.”

Unbeknownst to the PCs, on the other side of the wall is a gremlin beauty salon. When you push your face through the mirror, it sticks to the magic material, tears off your face, then drops your slimy face into a face-goo container that the gremlins use as a beauty product. The gremlins simply continue cutting hair and gossiping about the dungeon.

This Flail Milk factory houses Crystal Shit, a three-headed cow beast who’s fused to the floor.

Neighbor Head: Their extendo-neck ends in one of the player’s actual neighbors’ head. It wears its utters like a jester’s cap, producing household cleaning products as milk.

Robo-Head: This cyber-head controls one spindly arm with utters in their armpit. Its milk powers the Tin Cuppers, and recharges batteries. They grow new minions in small birthing sacs.

Cow Head: She produces rage milk, throwing the drinker into a barbarian rage. Gaze attack, save or attack the closest person to you who isn’t Crystal Shit.

Tin Cuppers: These tin cans with handles fill themselves up with milk from the teats and bring it to vats.

Flail-Static Joe: This jumbotron A.I. hangs from the ceiling making sure that milk production and deliveries are happening on time. A lightning flail drops menacingly from it to ward off danger or discipline the workers. A mounted control panel can slow down or stop production, but that’ll make Joe mad.

Ricksanthemum Garden: A field of flowers obscures a mysterious smoking chasm. Save when you enter the room or you're compelled to descend into the chasm to feed Rick all your good vibes. Veiled in the mist are carnivorous plants that’ll attack if you try any shenanigans. Opening two doors will air out the room and break Rick’s spell for everyone in the room.

Flower list: Deadly Peonies, Flaming Asters, Iron Roses, Orange Orchids, Tripping Daisies & Ugly Poppies. Wear the correct 3 flowers (orange, ugly & tripping to spell “OUT”) to counteract Rick’s smoke.

In the depths of the chasm is Ricksanthemum floating above a pyramid bouquet. He’s a hovering cow-skull demon with a unibrow, adorned with evil vines and flowers. Pheromone smoke billows from his eyes, mouth & flowers. Rick wants you to sacrifice yourself to him by staying here forever, sharing the beauty of the world.

01 Mar 2023MD 207 Idon’tcaribou and the Igloo Warriors00:46:17

No guest this week as Andrew, Rob & Steve discusses the games they've been playing this winter. Andrew played a Magic the Gathering meets Warhammer 40k commander extravaganza with Necrons, Tyranids and a Sol Ring. Steve played Smash Up where you combine themed card decks to take over bases. Rob continues playing World of Warcraft: Dragon Flight to flex their dragon riding skills.

Idon’tcaribou and the Igloo Warriors: This barn is missing two walls. Outside is an infinite tundra of icy conditions, swirling wind, snow and frosty grass. Inside are lofts with hay and stalls containing normal caribou. Broken-off antlers litter the floor. A coat rack next to the door has fur-lined parkas that give you advantage against ennui and cold damage.

A massive igloo with smaller crunchroach igloos all over it is in the center of the room. This is the turtle-like shell of the Idon’tcaribou, a dire beast with antlers growing out of it in all directions. It gores with its antlers, which break off and immediately grow back in a new shape. It shoots freeze rays from his eyes and has a 10-foot aura of ennui that’s linked to the cold (crunchroaches are immune).

Spudlings’ Secret Garden: This old retired couple are root vegetable monsters with poisonous tendril whips. He’s a potato in a speedo. She’s a carrot in a bikini. They’re cooking flayed skin underneath a huge heat lamp that deals UV damage to unprotected skin. They’re lounging in Adirondack chairs, basting the skin until it’s ready to eat. Around the chairs are the bodies of skinned adventurers. They feed their poison into beach umbrellas that occasionally spray the room with a poisonous mist.

This beachy room is their dream retirement spot where they construct pre-packaged and branded Spudlings’ Snack Traps for sale. Their workbench contains tools and a wide variety of deadly things like knives, spikes & acid.

Each wall has a “torture” device that they love to use, but would damage you. One wall has flailing, poisoned whips. A shotgun wall fires salt and birdshot. One wall is a cheese grater, and they sleep on a bed of nails. There's a printing press in the corner where they make fliers advertising their traps.

15 Mar 2023SQ 201 Call of Cthulhu - Hogwarts Legacy - D&D 5E00:48:28

This week Zach runs a new Call of Cthulhu 7E modern adventure for his friends and is enjoying the new Hogwarts Legacy game. We discuss how both Lovecraft and Rowling are problematic and how that impacts our enjoyment of the worlds they created.

Andrew continues playtesting Thorin Thompson's Blights ov the Eastern Forest adventure for Dungeon Crawl Classics (DCC).

Both Steve and Andrew discuss the finale of their two year long D&D 5E campaign where they fought the Tarrasque, pulled an Ocean's Eleven-style heist and defeated the big bad, a modded up Ancient Green dragon and her spellcasting banker.

The team is gearing up for Gary Con 2023, and Steve will be running games using our Season Two Mad Dungeon rooms and The Armor Classy CDungeon using Old School Essentials (OSE).

--

This episode is sponsored by Exalted Funeral, and we talk about Creatures of the Dying World 3 by Jonny Bloozit, a MÖRK BORG compatible bestiary, with lavishly illustrated monsters and an emphasis on folklore over combat stats. These monsters are easily convertible to any system, and designed to function as plot devices and writing prompts to spur your imagination. Our favorites were Gray Man , Headsman  and the fyrwurm.

Thanks for listening to Season Two of the Epic Levels Mad Dungeon podcast, where D&D hip hop group Epic Levels and a guest create a system-neutral, playable dungeon room using improv, comedy, and lifetimes wasted on roleplaying games.

Our Guest this week is Luke Gygax of Gaxx Worx and Gary Con. We talk about Gary Con, his World of Okkorim campaign setting, The Heart of Chentoufi, The Eye of Chentoufi, and the upcoming Fate of Chentoufi. We talk Strange & Grimm RPG, made for Everyday Heroes RPG.

Diesel Djinn: This gasoline-soaked airplane hanger hosts a clunky rocket pack that’s oozing diesel. Pull the ripcord (str check) to call forth Jason Sludgetham, an oozing Earth djinn (gasoline subtype) who powers the rocket pack and is always connected to the exhaust pipes. He wants nothing more than to be set free with a wish.

Complete his obstacle course to attune to the rocket pack, and he’ll grant you 3 wishes. 1) Fly through hoops that get smaller. 2) Pick up the heavy crate and deliver it to a high scaffolding. 3) Dead drop, cut off the engine to land on a small pad close to the deadly ventilating ceiling fans.

This room is guarded by one large, mischievous, flying diesel ooze.

05 Apr 2023MD 210 Nakenben’s Court w/ Johan Nohr & Pelle Nilsson (MÖRK BORG, CY_BORG)01:22:28

Our guests this week are Johan Nohr & Pelle Nilsson of Ockult Örtmästare Games & Stockholm Kartell. We talk about their MÖRK BORG RPG, Putrescence Regnant LP, and KARTELLIAN CLAMOR podcast.

Follow MÖRK BORG at: website - FB - IG - Twitter - store

Nakenben’s Court: A cultist wearing a flayed skin cloak is posted at the door to warn you to not enter these sacred chambers. This desolate, muddy field is filled with webs of sinew and obscuring smoke. Slowly swaying discarded skin suits cover small smoking volcanoes, facing the altar as though at worship. Inhaling the smoke causes you to start throat singing.

Throat-legs stretch from the ground leading to an organic sculpture of Nakenben sitting on a raised altar. Offering a sacrifice will reveal the true Nakenben. You might be an unwitting sacrifice. The spider god Nakenben has eight heads with long, singing throats for legs. Each head eats bodies whole, stripping them down to their naked bones, and leaving holy relic bone-scrolls covered in glowing sigils.

19 Apr 2023MD 211 Gross-o-matic 4000 w/ Brian Shutter (Neon Lords of the Toxic Wastelands)01:03:04

This week’s guest is Brian Shutter. We talk about Neon Lords of the Toxic Wastelands. Swingin’ swords and choppin’ lords vs. mutants and mullets. Gonzo vomit punk cassette-futurist RPG. New adventure Space Bulk involves interstellar space trucks around orbital space stations.

Neon Lords of the Toxic Wasteland “Total Carnage Edition” had a successful Kickstarter!

In this game, character creation’s most important aspect is your hairstyle and sunglasses. “Attitude” is how cool you are in civilization, but sleaze (anti-charisma) is how much respect you get in the Wastelands.

Gross-o-matic 4000, the number one tourist attraction of Dusseldorf: This steam-powered Rube Goldberg gumball machine takes up the whole room and works like this: Insert one gold coin - dominos fall - an accordion hits F# - a goat screams - an infernal chicken squawks and lays an egg that is the plastic capsule - a giant axe swings down to cut open a thin gel (save or take axe damage) - the capsule plops through the gel and onto the floor… better catch it.

25 Apr 2023MD 212 Kibo’s Corner of Eclectic Treasures w/ Matt Johnson (Portents of the Degloved Hand, Raven Portents)01:07:25

On this special Exalted Funeral sponsored episode, our guest is Matt Johnson, owner of Raven Portents, where we talk about his web comic Dew Claw and his new Exalted Funeral exclusive product Portents of the Degloved Hand, an Omen Sacrifice Deck compatible with MÖRK BORG.

Back it on Kickstarter here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/exaltedfuneral/portents-of-the-degloved-hand-for-mork-borg

Follow Matt at Raven Portents on IG

Kibo’s Corner of Eclectic Treasures: This pawn shop & apothecary has odds and ends hanging on the walls. Glass counters hold the valuable items. The most expensive item here is a lightsaber keytar.

Kibo, The Failing Hope: She wears a cybernetic asthma mask over her pug face. Her large bulbous eyes look in opposite directions. Her lower torso has been replaced with metal spider legs. She exudes a breathy femme-fatal energy, while still being motherly, yet is prone to random bursts of zoomie energy. Kibo fosters competition between her pups, and will send them on quests with customers.

Kibo’s puppies: These commerce-savvy pups have their own glass counters to sell their wares. Maggot Mouth (mastiff) sells diseased items. Scorched Bone (beagle) sells destruction items. Black Ribbon (rottweiler) sells death items. Double Power (dachshund) sells disaster items.

04 May 2023MD 213 Dungeon’s Got Talent w Tony Vasinda (PlusOneExp, Through The Void)00:52:14

This week’s guest is Tony Vasinda of PlusOneExp where they make bespoke, alchemical beard & lip balms inspired by classic tabletop tropes, and YouTube and podcast content from interviews with creators to actual play one-shots and campaigns. We talk about his upcoming space crawler Through The Void utilizing their Together We Go system.

Follow Tony: Website - FacebookInstagramTwitterYouTube

--

Dungeon’s Got Talent: This crowded arena has three tiers and a large circular field with a lone microphone in the center. Posters of other champion finalists line the walls. The judges booth juts out from the center of the 2nd level.

Trap: A large cage drops over anyone around the microphone, and minotaurs drench you with bad blood to enrage Nightmare Folklore who emerges from the floor. Fight or out perform the jazz bull to score points with the judges. A minotaur jazz band accompanies the fight from an orchestra pit.

Nightmare Folklore: This giant, intelligent jazz bull has horns like saxophones. “Fighting is like jazz. You have to break tradition.” Timing is important against his sonic attack (damage & save or be deafened), but jazz has variable timing with his hoof stomping (haste or slow effect).

Judges: Matador Dave (the spiritual wizard), Thragg (long retired dungeon delver with sorrowful eyes), and Labyrinth Larry (makes mazes for the local newspaper) each have a red buzzer they hit when they don’t like something. Survive and impress the judges, and they’ll invite you back for the finals. Winner gets a ring of three wishes.

09 May 2023MD 214 Dance Dungeon w/ Keith Matejk (Thunderworks Games, Roll Player, Cartographers, Goblin Vaults)00:47:43

This week’s guest is Keith Matejk of Thunderworks Games. We talk about how you can play Roll Player and Cartographers with big groups of players, and how you can play every Thunderworks game solo. We then dig into the art and gameplay of Goblin Vaults.

Follow Thunderworks Games at: Website - FB - IG - Twitter

Dance Dungeon: Water tubes line massive mirrored walls to power the water wheel torture machine. This device has a lever that goes from “little jig” to “dance machine.” Tethers connect goblins to the machine and Lockwork Goblin.

Lockwork Goblin: A colossal goblin-shaped golem, made of thousands of locks of all types, has exterior ledges and steps to climb it if you’re agile enough. It’s lonely and wants friends, so it violently brainwashes goblins with the machine to be its pal and perform dance numbers. In the center of its torso is a prison cell containing goblins pleading for you to save them. Its forehead contains a vault door that leads to emotional baggage and gold. It has hundreds of scraggly teeth that are one-use magic keys that’ll open any lock.

Dance Goblins: Converted goblins wear red thriller jackets, a lock necklace and are tethered by the head to the Lockwork Goblin. The tether is like an addiction, with strong withdrawals when detached. Rewiring works 100% on goblins, but has a 50% success rate for everyone else.

Jewel of Jarnjeeves: The self-mummified corpse of the turban-wearing mystic Jarnjeeves sits in meditation, holding a magic orb, at the top of a tall pedestal that’s surrounded by a treacherous and trapped staircase (false steps, spikes, turns into a slide, etc.). Jarnjeeves separated himself into two parts. The good part is the husk you see who made it to Nirvana. The evil Jarnjeeves is alive and trapped inside the orb. A menagerie of two-headed animals float in various orbits around the orb.

This grapefruit-size crystal sphere is extremely fragile, and if broken will release the evil wizard.

This primeval room of stone has jagged, ornamental spikes protruding from the floor, and a jar dispenser at each door. Hundreds of bulging, slime-filled polyps hang from the ceiling.

Three spigots: Each gargoyle-faced spigot has a vat on top where you are to place a green slime, ochre jelly and gak respectively. When each vat is filled, turn the spigot’s massive stone wheel (strength check) to process the ooze. It moves through runic circle grooves into a crucible that builds a chainslime.

Can of Blue Demon: Spray paint a power word: LOCK (lock or unlock all the doors). SHOW (see the outlines of the people in the building like X-ray specs). PAL (someone in the structure acts as if they’ve been your close friend forever). LORE (knowledge of the building’s history). LOT (the power to cloud minds, the building’s there, but people can’t see it). HIVE (look through the eyes of a randomly determined occupant, and hear what they’re thinking. Jump to another person within sight). Instructions are written on the can. Corruption: You slowly turn into a blue graffgoyle with every use.

Eel Team Six, humanoid eels in full SWAT gear with assault rifles, are finishing their briefing to take down the cartel leader Mermethod Man. They explode a hole in the coral reef floor and repel down to the mermeth lab. They’re coming in hot!

Mossy Mermeth Lab: The moss that grows on the walls here is being processed into the drug mossy mermeth. Tweaked out, sharp-toothed mermaids work in waist-deep water to make this dry narcotic powder.

Pizza Parlor: There are eight tables set with pizza accouterments. In the center of each table is a pizza sculpture shaped like your favorite pizza mascots.

The Get Haunt-afire Explosion is a two-piece (drums & banjo) animatronic band shaped like large connected pizza slices. They play the song, “That’s Amore” when you enter the room. If you can sever this connection, it’ll un-animate the pizza golems.

Eight 10-foot tall windows, two on each wall, are covered with metal shutters that roll open when the band finishes playing. In the sky is a pizza moon with a face who stares back at you from every window. The moonlight animates the pizza golems. Closing all the shutters renders the pizza golems lifeless.

When you kill an animated pizza golem, it combines with another pizza golem and they double their hit points. When all eight pizza golems are combined, they refer to themself as The Omega Slice.

This sandy beach has a deep pool of water in the center containing The Locktopus, a large skeletal octopus with bone tentacles that each end in a key numbered 1-8. This is an avatar of the octopus god Godtopus.

The Octobox is submerged 20 feet below the water. When the box is unlocked with a key, it rises out of the water and opens to reveal an octopus salad. The Locktopus says, “It’s the time of judgment. Eat me or be eaten.” If you allow The Locktopus to eat you, go up one level and you’re now a cleric of Godtopus. If you eat the octopus salad, you’re judged and die in d6 days.

General Paste, an anthropomorphic tube of toothpaste, rides on a storm cloud that rains down green rock candy that he wants you to eat. Rock candy floods from a large mouth into a river that flows around a dentist office and ends in a grate. Scattered throughout the room are 32 decayed and jagged teeth minions waiting to ambush you. D32 of your teeth rebe if your teeth touch the rock candy.

Teeth minions: Teeth who rebel grow legs & arms equipped with hammers or pliers, and rip themselves from your mouth. They grow to a foot tall and attempt to liberate the rest of your teeth with the rock candy or through violence.

If you have no teeth left, the rock candy has no effect and the teeth minions leave you alone.

In the corner is a titanic skull-shaped wasp hive that has a steady stream of gooey acid pouring from its mouth. Consuming acid from the pool gives you a psychedelic experience. In the hive are horse-sized drones and one queen named Avispa the Wild Child. All of the wasps have tendrils that look like handlebars on their midsections that they use to grapple and attack. Avispa secretes psychedelic acid. If she chooses to sting you, save or transform into a mindless queen wasp.

Stinger Gang: It’s a right of passage for these mutant-biker wasp riders to come here and tame a wasp mount, a “stinger;” but today’s a special day, a wedding. They’re rooting on a member trying to coax the queen out to turn him into a “stinger” so his new wife can ride him as a mount.

Citrol the Orang-a-Tang: He was born a glowing star troll, but was cursed to be the tree of memory and thought in the center of this room. The moranges grow from his boughs. He knows which person each fruit is linked to. He has the face of an orangutan-troll in the center of the tree trunk and small, nubby arms to eat his own fruit. Simian trolls catch and feed moranges to their master Citrol.

Moranges: Peeling this feathered fruit reveals meat of glowing, shimmering stars. When picked, wings sprout and they soar around the room. You have to catch it to eat it, earning the right to consume the memories of the multiverse. Eat the fruit and gain +1 on an intelligence stat for 24 hours, and learn the memories of one person.

A juicing machine is hidden away in the corner. If you mix more than one morange and drink the juice, the history of your world changes in a significant way, and for everyone else, the world has always been like this.

16 Aug 2023MD 225 Idea Pool w/ Joshua Therrien01:12:04

This week’s guest is Dragon Warrior and Tiger Wizard’s forever dungeon master Joshua Therrien. We talk about game mastering, preparing to run campaigns and deep diving into world building his campaign settings for The Scouring Campaign, The Wasteland Campaign and The Malagorn Campaign.

--

Catwalks look down into the Idea Pool where aquatic creatures swim through liquid infinity. Elias Thugburger tells you the rules. Pay him a meaningful memory (lose it forever), and in exchange you may put together a fishing rod and cast it into the Idea Pool. The memory you put in influences what you pull out.

Assemble your fishing rod by choosing one rod, reel, hook and bait. Add up the combined numeric value of the four items: 4) World-enhancing idea. 5-8) Banal idea. 9-11) World-changing idea that spawns a new religion. 12) World-ending idea.

Rods: Corn stalk (1), Harpoon (2), Spine (3)
Reels: Snail (1), Celestial hair (2), Hoof (3)
Hooks: Molten plasma (1), Kraken beak (2), Superglued toenails (3)
Bait: Gummy worms (1), Old boot (2), Photo of your best friend (3)

Cast your line to pull out a fish who whispers the idea in your ear. Once put into the world, this idea spreads like a virus, passing sonically, from mouth to ear to brain, and it never leaves one’s brain.

In the center of the room is the Cauldron of Sadness. It has arms to stir itself and quick legs that dance and leap, yet it never spills a drop. It has a duality of goblin faces on either side. One is the quintessential personification of sadness, the other of happiness.

The game: PCs secretly write down six items that are connected to their past. Designate three as happy and three as sad. These items appear on tables. The cauldron tells you to each choose an item that isn’t your own, and add it to the cauldron. PCs tell the cauldron when they're done adding items.

Resolution: If more sad items were added, it opens a portal of sadness, and sorrow begins to take over the world. If more happy items were added, a portal of happiness. If an equal amount of happy and sad items were added, the cauldron shrinks down and becomes a small pouch. Once a day you may draw from the pouch to pull out a specific item that is meaningful to whoever you’re targeting. Roll a d6: 1-3 the item makes them sad, 4-6 the item makes them happy.

You step into the interior of a slot machine. The floor is an unstable pile of 10-foot diameter wooden nickels. In front of you are three massive wheels that spin vertically every time the giant troll Gorm Gasher puts a new nickel in the slot hundreds of feet above you. Roll a DEX save to avoid being hit by the giant wooden nickel. A sign reads, “Three crowns wins the jackpot!” Wheel symbols: 1) Good-cherries, 2) tooth, 3) sausage nunchucks, 4) numeral 9, 5) eyeball, 6) crown.

The game: Rig the wheels to hit the three crown jackpot, but remember the winning combination on the wheels are facing away from you. When you hit the jackpot, a magic crown prize materializes (1/day summon 4 ninjas or reroll one die). Then the floor opens up. You and the nickels spill into the giant casino’s shag carpet floor, that to you is like a forest.

13 Sep 2023MD 228 TacocaT Cafe w/ Matthew Grau (CthulhuTech, Gwar vs. Time, League of Legends)01:20:58

This week’s guest is Matthew Grau of WildFire Games and we talked about his upcoming CthulhuTech: The Shadow War Quick-Start Rules (V2), working with the scumdogs of the universe to create his deck-building game Gwar vs. Time, his stint at Riot Games building the world of League of Legends, and growing up in the Twin Cities with D&D’s Dave Arneson in his life.

This pleasant cafe’s walls are lined with tables and cat-condos covered in a menagerie of delicious tacos, hot sauce and churros. The proprietors are Keeper, a kindly middle-aged woman who’ll train you to see a TacocaT, and Sage, an old, bearded, zen dude with long hair who’ll teach you to symbiotically bond with a TacocaT. They’re both wearing deer antlers covered in hanging crystals.

To see a TacoCaT, you must clear your mind and think only taco thoughts. When you do, there’s a ton of them. They’re everywhere and it’s cat chaos. They’re pouring out of an interdimensional TacocaT waterfall into a cuddle puddle pool in the center of the room.

A TacocaT is an adorable, squamous, symbiotic dream cat from the elemental plane of tacos. They have hard-taco-shell armor with fur tufts poking out between their plates, a hot-sauce hiss, and excrete delicious churros. When you bond with a TacocaT, they can regurgitate an infinite amount of tacos of whatever variety you can imagine, and they can attach to you to create a full body TacocaT armor. A TacocaT chooses its symbiotic host and bonds for life.

Flaming blood drips from the ceiling onto narrow ledges over a pool of fire-blood that’ll stick to you like napalm. Trap! A portcullis drops down in the doorway you came through, cutting you off from escape. The ledges collapse underneath you. Jump!

On a stationary center plinth is orc lawyer Janet Reno Nevada Esquire, wearing a pantsuit with heels. She’s chained to a massive lectern where the Book ov Blood & Fire rests. She’s bleeding fire, yelling her true name and the name of her true love (who’s somewhere nearby). You can heal Janet’s magical wounds to calm her down, but to break the curse you must bring her true love before her.

She wields the oversized Book ov Blood & Fire like a flail to knock you into the pool, or flings pages for a ranged attack. If a page hits you, make a mental save (with a solid debate argument) or suffer The Rules: When you bleed, your blood becomes fire. You must say your true name and the name of your true love. You become cursed if you read from the book.

This room is covered in a thick fog. You can’t see more than a foot in front of you. The floor goes uphill and has the pattern of a circuit-board maze of perpendicular lines that the Cyber Sisyphus, a boulder-size orb that glows neon blue, is to be navigated to a concave nest at the top. Each dead end has a floating proximity mine that explodes when the orb gets too close, knocking you back to the starting position. Hiding in the fog is Jack the Hacker, giving instructions on how the room works and mocking your failures.

There are two levers on opposite walls. One moves the orb north/south, and the other east/west. There are two pairs of cyber goggles. One that allows you to see the north/south walls and the other the east/west walls. When the orb moves, it leaves a glowing force field behind it so you can’t backtrack or cross where you’re already gone.

Reward: A combustiboard. This floating hoverboard can jump 20 feet, leaving an explosion that deals blast damage.

MD 231 - Tiny Tarts with Big Hearts

As you enter Tiny Tarts, a romantic restaurant, you’re greeted by a lich maître d' wearing a nametag that says “Tart.” Tart stands at a podium that’s covered in blooming shrink shrooms. They’ll explain the rules of the room, and with your permission, shrink you down with the shrink shrooms’ spore gas. From the podium, you zipline to Shinkland, which looks like a grapefruit hockey puck in the center of the room.

Shrinkland: This crowded, pocket-sized carnival adventure park is quite romantic, but rife with dangers. The zipline lands you in an oversized garden, but be wary of garden mites and living thorny roses. From here you can enjoy the other carnival games: bug wrangling pit, marksman range, flea circus, strawberries big enough to feed 20 people, and a pretzel with jello and pudding in the holes for spicy wrestling. On bad days, rats the size of dragons will attack Shrinkland, devouring everything.

To become unshrunk, you must find someone to be in a consenting, mutually beneficial relationship (that can be aromantic), and leave as a pair holding hands through the Tunnel of Love.

MD 232 Paper Pirates of the Renegade Heart

All sides of this room are a treasure map. Once you enter the room, the door becomes a drawing as well, trapping you inside. Bones of the people who starved to death before they solved the puzzle or joined the crew line the floor. Only living 3D people can solve the puzzle.

Puzzle: There’s no escape unless you can fix the six jumbled elements hidden within the map. The final jumble is that one wall is too long. You must fold in either side to correct the image and reveal the “X” that the treasure will come out of.

Treasure: The Crown of the Pirate King is a document giving you the legal title of Pirate King that’s folded into a wearable crown, and releases the crew of the Renegade Heart. These 2D pirates living in the walls of the map can only escape the map when someone is crowned the Pirate King. These pirates belong to a massive polycule where they can vote to bring you into the 2D map and poly relationship. Then you must wait for someone else to come by and save you.

The Fen
is a mix of nuclear waste and slimy frog skin. Nuclear barrels float next to hundreds of bowling-ball-sized disembodied Frogore eyes that watch you and blink. Supplicants live in huts on long legs that stick out of the water, connected by a network of docks with a canoe for every hut. You can use canoes to reach the five idols, 10-foot stone images that’ve drifted to the center of the lake. You can summon Frogore by either turning them to face the center of the lake, or arrange them in the shape of Frogore.

Frogore: This froghemoth elder god has hundreds of eyes that fall off of its body, and grow back just as fast. If you give it an offering of booze and nuke, Frogore will bless you with its ooze, giving you a mutation. A loot pile of discarded offerings rests at the bottom of the lake.

Mutation chart: 1- prehensile sticky tongue.  2- Grow five bulging eyes that can see underwater. 3- Leap 4x as high. 4- Caustic slime coats your body. 5- Webbed hands & feet. 6- Amphibious.

This immaculate, gold-plated room has 1d100 gold heads scattered around the floor. Gold fairies are stoned and having a good time. They’re making these heads as macabre costumes, with their head through a hole in the top, arms through the ear holes and their legs coming out of the neck hole. They can fly while wearing the heads. They’ll offer you their fairy weed and try to talk you into the hotbox.

The Hotbox: This phone booth sized box has three chambers. The topmost contains molten gold in a magic crucible above the door. Below that is a chamber large enough for a human to stand in. Once the door is closed, the molten gold is poured over their head. A guillotine mechanism severs the head and contains it in the “head chamber.” A trap door grate opens beneath the chamber, dropping the body down a chute into the compactor pit filled with waist-deep, gold-flecked blood. The walls then compact to turn the corpse into a meat cube, then eaten by an amorphous carrion devourer made primarily of eyeball stalks.

There’s a love triangle between Sluggoth, an elder space-slug deity with a 30’ aura of peace & love radiating from them, Captain Blaarg, an arrogant yet handsome yellow gelatinous creature, and Percival Blorp, a glowing space-skeleton with expressive eyeballs, eyebrows and buck teeth.

This competition cooking show is for the hand of the fair Sluggoth. This royal wedding, broadcasting to the galaxy, is the event of the season. You’ll have time to mingle with the participants before having to choose a side, becoming sous chefs for your champion in this joust of manners and culinary experience.

This cute room has several tiered, levitating platforms where gelatinous flowers are growing. There’s a stable of talking, sarcastic, three-headed riding birds with wings of daggers (to cut the flowers), used to reach the floating platforms. Whoever makes the best edible arrangements between three courses while using the surprise ingredient wins. Sluggoth will judge and crown the winner. The Slug Bishop, a large symbiotic slug on a human host’s head, presides over the show.

This cathedral has a checkerboard floor, a large chandelier made of stainless steel championship belts, and a boxing ring in the center. Inside of the ring is a coffin containing Eva Slaughter “The Red Reign of Pain,” a yoked goth-girl boxer.

The Devil himself says that if someone doesn’t step up to marry Eva’s ghost, he’ll drag her soul to hell. An eccentric cast of boxing champions stand in a circle around the ring on glowing rune-inscribed tiles giving eulogies. They then look at you to complete the circle.

Ghost Marriage: If you choose to go through this ritual, you’re bound to Eva’s ghost, who rises, dukes up, from the coffin. A wispy ghost ring wraps around your finger, tethering you to your new ghost wife. Burn effigies of money and other items for her to use in the afterlife or she’ll haunt you.

Two thin runways are above a 30-foot drop to a magnetic floor. You’re welcomed by the floating Bearbara Grizzelich, a drag performer dressed as a leather-daddy bear. They explain the rules and hand out a ribbon to the victor. Magic ribbons: “Sashay Queen,” 1/day fly 30 feet. “Bear Pride Flag,” 1/day briefly doubles your strength. “Drag-on King,” 1/day briefly boosts your AC.

Sashays & Shields: This ball competition consists of walking like a supermodel down the catwalk in full armor with a shield. Dex checks. Don’t fall. Grizzelich will judge you on dance, beauty and realness. After each walk the loser has one of their three chunks of runway drop away until one falls to their doom.

Dance Houses: Each wall has a viewing booth occupied by the ghosts of previous competitors who now occupy one of the four dance houses: Queen, King, Genderfuck or Camp. Choose a house, and an opposing house’s champion ghost will haunt their respective armor and choose their shield with the longest stream of ribbons to compete against you.

MD 239 Hangin’ Sacks 5th Ave w/ Chris Prynoski

This store has a portcullis separating you from the nugglets, zombie-like living testies that’ll chomp your nards. Hangin’ Brains, the seamstress necromancer, demands that you choose necropants from the rack before she releases the nugglets on you. There’s six styles of necropants made from human skin. They each have distended testicles and magically adhere when you put them on, becoming your skin.

1- Purple-Veined Jeans: They’ll form a coin barrier between your nutsack and the necropants’ nutsack giving you immunity to the bite of the nugglet.

2 - Harem: Made of loose and flabby skin, anyl movement blows the pants open to expose your scrotal region for easy chomping.

3 - Bidol the Sentient Scrotal Sleeve: He’ll editorialize what it thinks about your balls before belting out a “rebel yell” to call over the nugglets.

4 - Necro Booty Shorts: You’re cursed with Titmouse’s irresistible animation.

5 - Kilt of Many Circles: A breezy skirt covered in holes that expose your ballzak.

6 - The Unreliable Codpiece: This platemail codpiece has a lock and key, but it intentionally opens up at the most inopportune times.

27 Mar 2024MD 303 City Streets & Spaghetti Treats - Rise of the Vat Spawn (actual play)01:04:01

This week our heroes meet The Coroner in the basement of his mortuary. We learn that the dead bodies of Def Jamisus city are sent down chutes to the Necropolis below. The Marshal of Mummies explains that astral markers are needed to re-up their magical powers before leaving them with The Coroner to take them to view today’s public executions, and will meet them in goblin town later.

The vat spawn move through the streets of the walled city, learning more about tone-stone, that there’s venders selling bags of spaghetti everywhere, and that their public transit system, The Rock Ride aka The “R,” moves along the perimeter of the city's 100-foot tall walls. They move from an undead district, through the interior wall to the market district, to the entrance to the inner concentric circle wall to the city center.

There, they’re stopped at a Def Jamisus Police Department checkpoint. Warlock Rock fails at casting the spell candy talk, and is frisked. The DJPD finds a joint and the entire crew is detained. Will they be thrown into the slammer, or make a mystical escape from the fuzz?

10 Apr 2024MD 304 AGAB: All Garys Are Bastards - Rise of the Vat Spawn (actual play)01:09:05

This week the Vat Spawn are at the Rock Ride station platform with The Coroner. They’re stopped while trying to pass through a DJPD checkpoint. The fuzz find a joint on Warlock Roc and they’re detained. They unsuccessfully attempt to bribe the officers, and the cops call in backup. Tiger Wizard uses the Mad Dungeon word “sneakily” to create a cartoon style fight cloud, and they come out with their clothing swapped.

The Vat Spawn escape in their new police uniforms, make their way through the municipal district to the colosseum where the executions will take place. They attempt to enter through a side entrance guarded by a DJPD officer by telling him that they were bringing The Coroner as a last minute addition to the public execution. The Coroner flips out at this undiscussed plan and runs away.

Bat Alchemist utilized the Mad Dungeon word “sexy” to make every officer’s name Gary. AGAB: All Garys Are Bastards. They make friends with this Gary and he lets them into the colosseum just in time to see ten people be mutilated and dumped into the Necropolis below.

NEW POSTER MAP: We have a new poster adventure map now available for purchase at Exalted Funeral based on our Mad Dungeon season one, episode 20, Song of the Shriekfrapp, with the legendary Erol Otus—who not only made the adventure with us, but also illustrated the 11×17 front-side poster image!

The water is draining away at the secret golden oasis because of all the infighting between the adorable, ear-like loboids. Can you help the tiptoers, bouncers and striders to stop bickering and unite with their magic dance?
