Q3 Loss of Lieutenant Custom Mission Challenge 2024

Our first custom mission challenge in 2023 was quite the success, with some of our listeners’ missions becoming official ITS missions. Because of this success, we present the Loss of Lieutenant custom mission challenge 2024.

This year, listeners may submit up to two custom missions each. If you submitted a mission to the previous custom mission challenge and have an updated version, feel free to submit the update as well. Please let us know if your custom mission is intended to be a competitive mission or a narrative mission.

Once the challenge ends, we’ll format, edit, and compile them all into a single document for distribution to the wider Infinity community.

We’ll pick our favourites and run a custom mission tournament here in Melbourne sometime next year.

And what would custom missions be without some play testing? For the second part of this quarter’s challenge, we want to hear about one of your experiences playing a custom mission. What interesting mechanics did you like? What interesting mechanics did you break? Let us know.

NO RISK ENCOUNTERS Often in our games of Infinity, we deal with problems fairly head on: with bullets. But with the face to face nature of the game and the ever present risk of your opponent rolling a crit, there is always a chance your well laid plan ends in the death of your own trooper.   In addition, there are times when you are presented with a problem that you are either not equipped to deal with, or the risk is too great to tackle head on. This is where these "no risk encounter" tools and skills come in handy. Therefore, for this month we want you to think about ways you can deal damage to your oppoent, while keeping your own trooper safe   Examples of these "no risk encounters" include: Speculative Fire Guided Attacks Putting your opponent at -12 to hit Silent ammo Shooting outside of LoF   So for the month of March, we want you to think about the above examples and try to leverage them in your games of Infinity. TR bot locking down a lane? Can you put it at -12? Linked Bolt Sniper giving you problems? Have you considered spec fire? Worried about how to deal with your opponents TAG? ***QUARTERLY HOBBY CHALLENGE ANNOUNCEMENT Q1 2022 - NEW YEAR, NEW TECHNIQUE***   After the overwhelming success of our first quarterly hobby challenge we figured let's do another. We all get stuck in our ways when it comes to painting, we get comfortable with the range of paints or style we like to paint our minis. Maybe you batch paint, or do them one at a time? Perhaps you dry brush or wash all of your minis the same way? Or you've always wanted to try your hand at airbrushing but didn't know where to start? So, for the first quarter of 2022, which will run from now until aproximately the first week of April 2022, we want you to try a new painting or hobbying technique.   Some examples of painting techniques/styles below: Non Metallica Metal (NMM) Wet blending Stippling Layering Glazing Airbrushing Speed Painting GW Contrast Inks etc etc   Whatever it is you decide, just give something new a go and let us know how it went. Upcoming events: Sydney Community building initiative "Some of the Sydney guys are setting up a regular community event, and they're asking asking for INPUT and FEEDBACK - the best way to get a new gaming day off the ground is to hear everyone's feedback as to what they want!

Beerfinity

Have you ever wanted to play infinity in a brewery? Well, now you can!

 

Join us for a one day tournament at Willie the Boatman Brewery in St Peters, in Sydney’s inner west, on Sunday July 2nd

 

It will be an ITS event, with 3 games consisting of the BCB missions. The first will be Cryogenics, the second will be Capture & Protect OR Frontline, and the third mission will be Supplies OR Decapitation.

 

Entry is only $10, with a generous prize pool, and every entrant receives a Brewfinity container to add to their terrain collection. We have room for 14 players, and the precinct the brewery is in has plenty of parking, and is also close to public transport (Sydenham station).

So, we here at Loss of Lieutenant have decided to merge the hobby and gaming challenges! HelCon 2023 - 19th and 20th of August, Helsingborg, South of Sweden!

 

This is actually two, three round, 300 point, one day events.

Saturday 19th is 'The Hot Day'; and is pretty straightforward with Frontline, The Armoury and our custom mission, Imprint.

On Sunday 20th everything has gone badly wrong and it is 'The Cold Day'; and we are playing Cryogenics, Frostbyte and Panic Room.

 

Prices are 200 sek (Swedish kronor) per day, or 300 sek for both, and more information can be found in the Infinity_SWE facebook group or on the HelCon site (https://helcon.net/infinity/).

This month we want you to make your opponent scared of the very sky their toy soldiers fight under and focus on bringing Troops that are the epitome in attack vector exploitation, Drop Troops.

That's right, this month we challenge you to build lists focused on troops with the combat jump skill. A skill that is both loved and maligned in equal measure we want to hear about how you reminded your opponent to keep their head on a swivel. Let us know the way in which a unit was able to punch through a small hole in your opponent’s defences or how you spent 50+ points on drop units, only to have them land in your DZ. Continuing LoL’s drive to get people into the creative side of Infinity, for quarter three we are asking our listeners to write us a short narrative story.

 

The infinity universe has a rich and diverse background, with so many source books to choose from, and with Endsong round the corner, it’s a perfect time to create some new stories from the Human Sphere! 

 

Is there a unit or character in your army who has performed so heroically over the course of multiple games they deserve to have a story written about them?

Or is there a piece of background you’ve read or heard about that's just crying out to be expanded? 

 

Well now’s your chance to express yourself through the written word. 

 

Please try to stick to a limit of no more than 2000 words, as these are supposed to be short stories. Alternatively, a 10 minute audio recording would also be welcome.

Q3 Loss of Lieutenant Custom Mission Challenge 2024

Our first custom mission challenge in 2023 was quite the success, with some of our listeners’ missions becoming official ITS missions. Because of this success, we present the Loss of Lieutenant custom mission challenge 2024.

This year, listeners may submit up to two custom missions each. If you submitted a mission to the previous custom mission challenge and have an updated version, feel free to submit the update as well. Please let us know if your custom mission is intended to be a competitive mission or a narrative mission.

Once the challenge ends, we’ll format, edit, and compile them all into a single document for distribution to the wider Infinity community.

We’ll pick our favourites and run a custom mission tournament here in Melbourne sometime next year.

And what would custom missions be without some play testing? For the second part of this quarter’s challenge, we want to hear about one of your experiences playing a custom mission. What interesting mechanics did you like? What interesting mechanics did you break? Let us know.

Here in Melbourne, we recently wrapped up our Slow Grow League. It was a huge success, with many new players getting their teeth into N4 in a friendly, supportive environment, and was also a great excuse for veterans to coach new players and try out new armies.

So, for the month of March, we want YOU to introduce new players and run your own introductory game of Infinity!

This can be at your regular games night, a day or evening at your house, or even a full on slow grow/escalation style event!

Whatever it is, we want it to be aimed squarely at new players, with the aim by the end of the month, you will have acquired new knowledge on what worked (and what didn't work) for introducing new players to the game.

Q2 Challenge announcement - You + Me = Carnage

 

With our transition to longer form challenges, we are finding that people are more likely to engage with both parts of the challenge or not at all. So, we here at Loss of Lieutenant have decided to merge the hobby and gaming challenges! We will still be rewarding two entrants with prizes, picked with a rigorous selection method (welcome to our special guest judge - a random number generator!). You'll get more entries depending on how you adhere to the challenge and the amount of blood sweat and tears you put in (note - please don't work that hard, it's supposed to be fun).

 

It's time for our annual exploration of an underrated and underutilised part of the Infinity ruleset - the Fireteam Duo! Have you got a duo that you love? Do a couple of your silver surfers stare longingly at each from across the pile of shame? Have you never experienced the power of a Su Jian duo'd with anything in Yu Jing? Now's your chance. This quarter, we want you to paint and play a fireteam duo! Extra points will be given to those who tie their duo team in together somehow with a unique secondary colour or decal etc.

The infinity universe has a rich and diverse background, with so many source books to choose from it’s a perfect time to create some new stories from the Human Sphere! 

Is there a unit or character in your army who has performed so heroically over the course of multiple games they deserve to have a story written about them?

Or is there a piece of background you’ve read or heard about that's just crying out to be expanded? 

Well now’s your chance to express yourself through the written word. 

Please try to stick to a limit of no more than 2000 words, as these are supposed to be short stories. Alternatively, a 10 minute audio recording would also be welcome.

With Burn City Brawl done and dusted it's time to properly shake off covid and get back to running monthly events !

Due to popular demand and public outcry we have decided to do a MERCENARY AUCTION to raise some money for charity and keep Yojimbo out of every... single... list. All money from the auction will go towards a charity that will be voted on by the Infinity Melbourne community. It was a huge success, with many new players getting their teeth into N4 in a friendly, supportive environment, and was also a great excuse for veterans to coach new players and try out new armies. This can be at your regular games night, a day or evening at your house, or even a full on slow grow/escalation style event! 16" Challenge - 

For the month of May, play games using weapons with no better range bands than a rifle. That means no Spitfires, HMGs or Snipers. We will allow the use of profiles with secondary weapons such as Panzerfausts, Blitzens, Flash Pulses etc, but you cannot use those weapons in game. Grenade Launchers are also out.

The intention of the challenge is to get you thinking about positioning and mobility to get the most out of the shorter range bands, rather than just sitting back and shooting your opponent at range.

Q3 Loss of Lieutenant Custom Mission Challenge 2024

Our first custom mission challenge in 2023 was quite the success, with some of our listeners’ missions becoming official ITS missions. Because of this success, we present the Loss of Lieutenant custom mission challenge 2024.

This year, listeners may submit up to two custom missions each. If you submitted a mission to the previous custom mission challenge and have an updated version, feel free to submit the update as well. Please let us know if your custom mission is intended to be a competitive mission or a narrative mission.

Once the challenge ends, we’ll format, edit, and compile them all into a single document for distribution to the wider Infinity community.

We’ll pick our favourites and run a custom mission tournament here in Melbourne sometime next year.

The infinity universe has a rich and diverse background, with so many source books to choose from, and with Endsong round the corner, it’s a perfect time to create some new stories from the Human Sphere! 

Is there a unit or character in your army who has performed so heroically over the course of multiple games they deserve to have a story written about them?

Or is there a piece of background you’ve read or heard about that's just crying out to be expanded? 

Well now’s your chance to express yourself through the written word. 

Please try to stick to a limit of no more than 2000 words, as these are supposed to be short stories. Alternatively, a 10 minute audio recording would also be welcome.

Q2 Challenge announcement - You + Me = Carnage

With our transition to longer form challenges, we are finding that people are more likely to engage with both parts of the challenge or not at all. So, we here at Loss of Lieutenant have decided to merge the hobby and gaming challenges! We will still be rewarding two entrants with prizes, picked with a rigorous selection method (welcome to our special guest judge - a random number generator!).

You'll get more entries depending on how you adhere to the challenge and the amount of blood sweat and tears you put in (note - please don't work that hard, it's supposed to be fun). It's time to our annual exploration of an underrated and underutilised part of the Infinity ruleset - the Fireteam Duo! Have you got a duo that you love? Do a couple of your silver surfers stare longly at each from across the pile of shame? Have you never experience the power of a Su Jian duo'd with anything in Yu Jing? Now's your chance.

February Challenge - Mark It! Learning how to apply and defend against marker states in Infinity is a complicated process, it fundamentally changes the ARO mechanic and can require hours of practice to become competent.

 

However, it is also one of the most important and powerful skills in the game, and one every player must learn.

 

So, for the month of February we want you to play around with using or facing the various types of marker states in Infinity.

 

For reference these are:

Camouflage (including mines and decoys)

Impersonation (including from cybermask)

Holoecho (from Holoprojector equipment)

 

These can be in the form of battle reports, in depth analysis, or tips and tricks you have picked up along your Infinity journey!

With our transition to longer form Gaming challenges, we’d love to set a real challenge for our listeners. Like crime in Hollywood's version of New York, we want you to get organised! We at Loss of Lieutenant want you to plan and run an event for your local players and tell us about your experience.
