Living in Santa Barbara: Exploring Consciousness and Community with Rinaldo Brutoco
In this episode, join me as I sit down with esteemed business leader, Rinaldo Brutoco, founder of the World Business Academy, a nonprofit think tank focused on ethical leadership and sustainability in business. His mission is to broaden our perspectives and deepen our understanding of the world around us, addressing critical moral, environmental, and social issues.
I was inspired by a presentation he gave on 360 degrees of consciousness at the Vibrant Living Series at Unity of Santa Barbara. I highly recommend watching this video.
https://youtu.be/dXyup5jk8VA?si=knGPGk-u5dkDHpu8
I had no idea that our conversation would lead into politics. While politics have never been or was ever intended to be a part of this show, things do not always go as expected. It's natural to have differing political views, but it is important to keep an open mind and listen to all perspectives in a calm and respectful manner, and maintain a respect for our shared humanity. This podcast was recorded before the tragic event in Pennsylvania and it gave me the unique opportunity to reflect on it with the 360 degree perspective that Rinaldo introduced. I debated whether to publish this podcast. I am still undecided about the election and his views do not necessarily reflect mine and may not reflect yours either.
However, I recognize that Rinaldo is a man who speaks from the heart. Whether you agree or disagree with his opinions, he shares them out of a genuine concern for all of humanity. And this podcast aims to be thought-provoking and share stories about people who are taking positive action as stewards of the community, the nation, and the world and that is Rinaldo Brutoco. My hope is to inspire you to stay informed, work together and take action for positive change.
And please don’t forget to like, follow, share the show!

"The more I saw, you know, all that seeking I was doing of, you know, it was about how to connect with people. And I really saw that it was empathy was kind of the core of how we connect with each other. So I thought, this is really important. And then shortly thereafter. After Barack Obama, he ran for office and he kept saying the country had an empathy deficit. So he said it over and over and over again. I said, Oh, I can contribute to that, addressing that empathy deficit."
In this episode, I am please to introduce you to our special guest. Edwin Rutsch, founder of the Empathy Center in Santa Barbara. As Thich Nhat Hanh says in his book *Being Peace,* "The way to peace is the way of understanding."

We'll discuss his journey as a seeker from filmmaking to becoming an empathy advocate and his mission to start the empathy movement from the incredible 35 acre retreat center in Santa Barbara that he manages.

He's helped families bridge gaps that seemed impossible to cross, and his Empathy Circles are transforming lives. He's seen firsthand how empathy can foster deeper understanding and bring about genuine change in various settings.

Living in Santa Barbara - Curating Connection: The Heart and Soul of Assemblage with Henry Castelo
Join us as we uncover the stories behind the places, people, and businesses that shape the beautiful city of Santa Barbara.
I'm kicking off the Funk Zone series with one of the Funk Zone's most exciting new additions: **Assemblage**—pronounced the French way. The Funk Zone is Santa Barbara’s most vibrant neighborhood for shopping, dining, and entertainment, so it’s no surprise that it’s home to one of the most unique spots to discover your next treasure.
Assemblage is more than just a vintage store—it’s a community, a philosophy, and a creative movement. Curated by visionary Henry Castelo, Assemblage brings together a dynamic mix of vintage finds, reclaimed treasures, and local art, all with a deep commitment to sustainability and storytelling. But behind the curated displays and carefully selected pieces is Henry’s own journey of transformation.
Join us as we explore how Henry changed his life and started following his passion for renewal, creativity, and connection, and how he is inspiring Santa Barbara to rethink the way we consume, create, and connect.
