19 Jan 2022 | Episode 52: “It’s not funny business, but it’s funny you said it that way.” | 01:14:04
This spooky Wednesday is our third installment of True Crime January, and we’re coming at you with one of the most classic of true crime subjects: H. H. Holmes. This man was one of, if not THE first serial killers. He had a pretty messed up childhood, and he killed a bunch of people, but somehow managed to keep an impressively active dating life. And who can blame the ladies for falling for him? That mustache. That super manipulative and toxic behavior. That ability to steal and mutilate corpses. Isn’t that every woman’s dream? And while he’s most well known for his Chicago murder castle, which no longer stands, we’re gonna tell you about his lesser-known murder house. A small rental cabin in Indianapolis where he murdered a child, and as a result, people who stay there say they encounter dark feelings and haunting occurrences. 20 Nov 2024 | Episode 198: "Sky Drama" | 01:16:09
Happy Spooky Wednesday, dears! We’ve got extraterrestrials and the Wild Wild West for you this week. Kala talks about former United States President Jimmy Carter’s UFO experience, as well as the stories from past US presidents. Is the government really hiding something? If so, they don’t seem to be hiding it very well. Then Brittany covers Big Nose Kate’s Saloon in Tombstone, Arizona. Neither host is particularly thrilled about the description Kate has been given, but we both agree that Kate has lived an eventful and interesting life. Her life was so wild that it seems it couldn’t be contained within our mortal plane, because she (and some friends) have decided to stick around and bother poor service workers even after death.
23 Jun 2021 | Episode 22: "Oh my god... they are DKEs!" | 01:18:44
This week brings us a fake hospital, a professional feline, a dumb fraternity ritual, and cuddles from a burnt, disembodied arm. Kala talks about The Crescent Hotel & Spa in Eureka Springs, AK. This hotel located in the Ozarks has a complicated past that contributes to it being one of the most haunted hotels in America. Brittany tells us tales from Kenyon College in Gambier, OH. Students that attend this college often leave with many ghostly tales from all around campus including the dormitories, lecture halls, pool area, and surrounding campus area. Both locations are packed with stories from guests and students that show just how haunted they really are! This episode is sponsored by Earth Rider Brewery. 04 Oct 2023 | Episode 140: "Did it for the lolz 👻" | 01:31:25
Happy Spooky Wednesday and happy Spooky Season, one and all! We’re so excited to be starting out the 3rd annual Urban Legends October with the ever-amazing Adam Herman! We’re starting out the creepy month right with the super creepy game known as Three Kings. Calling it a game may be a stretch, it’s more of a ritual. Have you ever wanted your questions answered? Have you considered you may not like the answers given? If you can make it through the ritual, be prepared for unexpected results. Is this real, or just another creepypasta? Listen to people’s experiences and judge for yourself!
30 Nov 2022 | Episode 96: “I was reborn for this role.” | 00:51:20
Happy Spooky Wednesday! We’ve got a Minnesota ghost and an Egyptian past life for you this week, so basically our stories do not relate to each other at all. First up Kala talks about the Landmark Center in St. Paul, MN. This building is said to be haunted by a man named Jack who got caught up in gangster activity and suffered the consequences. Are the phantom activities that occur in the building the result of this one ghost, or the remnants of others who existed here over the years? And Brittany talks about the past life of Dorothy Eady. This woman, who went by the name of Omm Sety, suffered an injury in her childhood. From that point on the rest of her life was defined by the belief that she lived another life as an ancient Egyptian priestess in the cult of Isis. She knew details that were never published and her information was regarded highly by scholars. Was this real or a lifelong fabrication? While it may be tempting to dismiss the story as a lie, you will be surprised by the details.
27 Mar 2024 | Episode 164: “OSHA, is this okay?” | 01:41:08
Happy Spooky Wednesday, folks! We’ve got a haunted home and a freaky factory for you this week! Kala talks about The Hinsdale House, also known as the Dandy House, in Hinsdale, NY. This old home was made popular in the 70s when the Dandy family reported being bombarded with paranormal activity while they resided in the old barn house. Objects moved, shadow figures were seen, and there may have even been some possession! And while there were attempts to cleanse the house, it doesn’t not appear those attempts were successful. And Brittany talks about Sloss Furnaces in Birmingham, AL. This historic landmark has a history full of terrible supervisors, industrial accidents, and other non-OSHA approved activities. The spirits who perished there still reside in the building. Who will you see? The man who was sucked into the industrial gears? Or maybe “Slag” the manager who overworked the workers and died in a very T2-esque accident? Either way, we’re pretty sure it’s not something you want to see.
14 Aug 2024 | Episode 184: "Because.... Australia" | 01:05:35
Happy Spooky Wednesday, everyone! It's Brittany's Birthday Spooky Spectacular! The birthday girl starts us off with the tale of the Goat Man of Prince George's County. This half-goat, half-man creature has been well known in Maryland since the 1970s. With an appetite for puppies and humans alike, this is definitely not a cryptid you want to stumble upon. And then as a present for Brittany, Kala has scoured Reddit threads to find people's creepiest experiences. Some are paranormal, and some are just normal, but at the end of the episode we both agree on the same thing: sometimes humans are the scariest creatures of all.
05 May 2021 | Episode 15: Happy Homegrown Listener Story Episode! | 00:54:08
This week Kala and Brittany talk about the Duluth Homegrown Music Festival and how it served as the inspiration for our first ever listener story episode! We're sharing stories from Duluth, MN musicians, photographers, poets, and attendees! Get ready to have a cluckin' good spooky time! HAPPY HOMEGROWN!!!
02 Oct 2024 | Episode 191: “Wife Poisons Husband with Candy” | 01:20:38
Happy Spooky Wednesday, and Happy Urban Legends October, everyone! We’ve got two stories that are perfect for putting you in the mood for the Halloween season. Kala tells the tale of Stingy Jack, the origin story for Jack O’ Lanterns. When Jack ticked off the Devil by tricking him one too many times, he was forced to wander the afterlife for eternity, never entering Heaven or Hell, with only the light of a fire inside a turnip to light his way. How in the heck does this become the spooky carved pumpkins we know today? Once combined with other folk tales and natural progression of traditions, you will see. And Brittany tells us all about Clara Crane AKA The Candy Lady. The reason for her nickname is not so sweet. After the tragic death of her daughter, she blamed her husband and used sweets to take her revenge. Later on, kids started disappearing. It turns out mystery candy had been showing up with notes from “The Candy Lady” asking if they could come out and play. The ones that did weren’t seen again. How much of this story is truth, and how much is urban legend? This story will make sure you never take candy from strangers.
30 Aug 2023 | Episode 135: "Hail a cab. Cannon a ferry." | 01:07:19
Happy Spooky Wednesday, folks! This week we've got a petrifying prison and a paralyzing plantation. Kala discusses The Old Idaho Penitentiary in Boise, ID. Built before Idaho was even a state, this facility saw executions, riots, and death due to the poor conditions in which the prisoners were kept. As a result, there are a multitude of spirits still stuck in the building where they were held. Tourists, employees, and paranormal investigators have reported many classic haunting occurrences such as orbs, strange noises, and heavy feelings. They've also reported some uncommon occurrences, such as spirits who like to act as guides at the prison-turned-museum where they reside. And Brittany talks about the Ferry Plantation in Virginia Beach, VA. The 11 ghosts who call this place home in the afterlife make themselves known to visitors in various ways, so which one would you like to meet? The soaking wet spirit of a woman accused of witchcraft? Or the two children who have been seen playing throughout the mansion on the property? (They'll greet you with a hug if you're lucky.) Or even the ghosts of sailors who were lost in a shipwreck at the ferry landing? You'll be hard-pressed to find a place on this property that doesn't have some specters hanging around.
20 Sep 2023 | Episode 138: "Stairs John, not Arsenic John." | 01:09:58
Happy Spooky Wednesday to all of our favorite spooky friends! This week, Kala continues the Barry Taff discussion with the investigation story of the Doris Bither Case, better known as The Entity haunting. A young woman with four small kids, Doris Bither already had to handle the stress of getting by as a single mom, but that stress was amplified by a near-constant haunting in her Culver City home. Was this a poltergeist or telekinesis brought on by pressures of life as a woman in the 70s? And Brittany discusses (at minute 46) Ye Olde Salutation Inn in Nottingham, UK. Known as The Sal, this building is beautiful, really old, and haunted. The caves beneath the Inn leave us with burning questions such as: Why are Roman soldiers running through a basement? Is the little girl friends with the pirate? And why do they put “Ye Olde” on so many things in the UK?

12 Apr 2023 | Episode 115: "Was he hanging his spoils and then it spoiled?" | 00:56:39
Happy Spooky Wednesday, dear listeners! We've got haunted elevators, dancing spirits, and ghostly pets for you this week! First up, Kala discusses the Hotel Monte Vista in Flagstaff, AZ. This building, once a social hub for the city, is haunted by spirits of all kinds. There are ex-workers such as the phantom bell boy who wants to bring you room service, and the elevator man who doesn't realize people push their own buttons now. And old residents like a lady who just wants to enjoy her rocking chair, and the man who died leaving not only a decomposing body, but decomposing meat hanging from the chandeliers. You're thinking of that smell now, right? You're welcome. And Brittany talks about the adorably named Poogan's Porch in Charleston, SC. The restaurant is named after an adorable pup named Poogan, who served as the restaurant's official greeter for years, and even after his passing, you may still catch a glimpse of him running by or brushing against your leg to say hi. He's not the only ghost on the premises either! A woman named Zoe seems to be having the time of her afterlife hanging out with the restaurant's staff and guests. While there may be sad elements to this tale, we gotta love the positive energy these ghosts are emitting!
01 Jan 2025 | Episode 204: Hiding from ghosts behind sofas | 01:01:58
Happy Spook Wednesday, everyone! And Happy True Crime January! This week, we are talking about The Cecil Hotel, which has... let's say... not the best history when it comes to the folks who have stayed there. But is it HAUNTED? A certain ghost TV show host by the name of Bagans-Liar-Liar-Pants-On-Fire certainly thinks it is, but let's see what Kala has to say about it. Editor's Note: The John Cusack movie is 1408, not 1308. I knew it sounded off...
07 Feb 2024 | Episode 157: "“Keep me away from Mel’s Hole” | 01:08:18
Happy Spooky Wednesday, and welcome back to our regularly scheduled programming! This week Kala starts with the ultimate of all deep sea cryptids, The Kraken! This legendary monster has been blamed for centuries as the reason for the disappearance of ships and sailors. But is it real? And if it’s real, is it paranormal? All we know for sure is most of the ocean is unexplored and really freaking scary. And Brittany tells us all about Mel’s Hole. We promise it’s not as dirty as it sounds, but it does make us giggle. This “bottomless pit” in Washington state is a giant mystery. People have thrown their trash and even dead animals down this hole for years, and it shows no signs of filling up. It runs for miles beneath the surface… what could possibly be down there? What do you think?

04 Aug 2021 | Episode 28: "It’s very traumatic to be eaten, even if you’re already dead." | 01:05:08
This Spooky Wednesday the world is on fire, and it may or may not be reflected in our podcast. We head out to California this week for both of our locations. Kala tells us about her own experiences taking The Donner Pass in Northern California. The story of the Donner Party is tragic, and it's easy to see how this area is now haunted by the people who met their tragic end here. Travel + short cuts = cannibalism? Brittany takes us down to Southern California to talk about the Whaley House in San Diego. How is it that a house can have ghosts before it is ever built? Brittany knows. Construction + men who were hung for attempted boat theft = haunting? This episode is sure to have you questioning the decision-making skills of many people in the 1800s. No wonder so many ghosts are from this time. This episode is sponsored by Earth Rider Brewery in Superior, WI. For more information visit https://earthrider.beer
10 Nov 2021 | Episode 42: "Maybe people in California just assume everyone in the Midwest has possums in our walls." | 01:04:37
Happy Spooky Wednesday! This week Kala takes over with the extra-long tale of the Pfister Hotel in Milwaukee, WI. This hotel has a long, surprisingly un-tragic history, and yet it's still haunted AF. There are tales of mischievous ghost activity in the halls and rooms of this hotel as reported by major league baseball players, Megan Thee Stallion, and Joey Lawrence among many others. Lights flickering. Mysterious shadows. Quick knocks with no one at the door. Clothing flying around. Could this be the spirit of Charles Pfister haunting his creation? Or just possums in the walls? Because apparently, possums in the walls are what you can expect when visiting the Midwest. This episode is sponsored by Earth Rider Brewery in Superior, WI. 14 Feb 2024 | Episode 158: "Art's stirring the pot!" | 01:10:19
Happy Spooky Wednesday! We have a very Art Bell-heavy episode for you today. First, Kala talks about one of the most famous calls on Coast to Coast AM, the Area 51 caller. A frantic man called into the show and claimed that he used to work for Area 51. After a short and panicked conversation, the transmission was lost, and so was the call. Coincidence or interference? People have theories, but no one knows for sure. And Brittany continues on with the story of Mel’s Hole. After the continued investigation into what exactly is going on with mysterious well in the ground, the government took control of the area, and made it known to Mel that he was not supposed to interfere. After another conversation with Art, we learned that Mel had a decision to make: back off and leave it an unanswered mystery, or follow the advice of Art’s listeners and find answers by any means necessary!

03 Feb 2021 | Episode 2: "You know Zak Bagans went there, right?" | 01:07:57
This week on Left of Skeptic Kala and Brittany discuss two famously haunted hotels: The Palmer House Hotel in Sauk Centre, MN and St. James Hotel in Red Wing, MN. Including haunted basements, ghost kitties, and past owners who really don't like it when you move their table. As an added bonus: how Kala really feels about Zak Bagans.
19 Jun 2024 | Episode 176: "They had a ball-room" | 01:07:44
Happy Spooky Wednesday, folks! We've got a classic haunting and a major coincidence on the docket this week. I know what you're thinking? A major coincidence? How is that Spooky-Wednesday-worthy? Trust us... you'll want to hear this. But first, Kala talks about the George Stickney House in Woodstock, Illinois. This building is now a police headquarters, but it was once the home of devout spiritualists who commissioned the building to be built with zero sharp corners to better communicate with the dead. After decades of seances, it seems some of those spirits may have stuck around, and are now spending their time pestering police officers. Now, about that coincidence... What if we told you that there were two murders so similar you might think there was a copy cat killer? Now what if we told you they were over 100 years apart? And what if we told you the details were so similar not even a copy cat could pull it off? This is a wild ride, folks. You don’t want to miss it.
23 Feb 2022 | Episode 57: “Boo! Or should I say ‘Moo’?” | 01:00:28
This week is an eventful one! We’ve got aliens, ghost cows, ghosts that aren’t cows, project blue book, magical silencing pillowcases, and maybe-sorta crawlers. First Kala talks about the abduction of Betty and Barney Hill in New Hampshire in 1961. This story is one of the first to shape how we see alien abductions and UFOs both in science and in fiction. Next, Brittany takes us back to Austin, TX to discuss the Driskill Hotel, which involves a lot more cattle than you might think. This haunted location has a variety of ghosts including ones that shop, smoke, watch you, like buses, and play with balls. Finally, we end it all with a Reddit story of an encounter that sounds similar to the cryptids we covered in Episode 24. Too similar. This episode is sponsored by the Great Lakes Aquarium. 29 Nov 2023 | Episode 148: "Not a Petti-bone in her body." | 01:03:36
appy Spooky Wednesday, everyone! This week we've got classic stories in the form of a haunted hotel and a creepy college campus. First up, Kala talks about The Excelsior House Hotel in Jefferson, TX. Jefferson is a haunted little city, and this hotel is one of its hot spots. Allegedly, it's creepy enough to scare away one of the biggest names in Hollywood. Who will you encounter if you visit? The woman in black? The perfumed lady? The headless soldier? All three? If you do visit, do you think you can make it through the night? And Brittany tells us all the urban legends of Wells College in Aurora, NY. This campus is plagued by spirits of all kinds, and they all sound like they're straight out of a horror movie. From the roommate who never made it home from spring break to the student who stabs her teacher over stolen work, you'll find no shortage of stories to give you the shivers. Who can say no to a spooky week like this one? We're only a month away from True Crime January! If you have suggestions for locations, please feel free to drop us a line! 07 Jun 2023 | Episode 123: "The Big Three: Alcohol Addiction, Menopause, and Tuberculosis." | 01:17:59
Happy Spooky Wednesday, dear listeners! This week we've got two haunted locations known by many different names. We start with Kala discussing "Old Main" Utica State Hospital in Utica, NY. This facility was considered groundbreaking in the mid-1800s as they attempted to move towards more compassionate care of patients (though, as we've learned, what they considered compassionate back then was still pretty barbaric.) It's known as one of the most haunted places in upstate New York, but because it is not open to the public, it's hard to verify with personal stories. Is this place really haunted? Or is it all rumors and local legends? And Brittany heads over to Ohio to discuss Ohio University in Athens. This large campus is full of buildings, one of the most famous being The Ridges. Full apparitions and phantom noises can be experienced within its walls, and like our first location, it seems to be the result of poor treatment of patients while the building operated as a care facility. But this isn't the only haunted building on the Ohio University campus. Where else has the spooky vibes? You'll have to wait until next week to find out. 13 Dec 2023 | Episode 149: “We are hooded and we’re on a mission" | 01:12:49
Happy Spooky Wednesday, folks! We’ve got classic tales of a haunted museum, church, and cemetery this week! First up Kala tells us all about the Yunker Farm Children’s Museum in Fargo, ND. This 1800s farmhouse turned children’s educational experience is fun for the whole family, both alive and ghostly. The former missus of the house loves that her home is a fun place for kiddos, and she makes sure her warm and friendly presence is felt. And Brittany shares the story of the St. James Cemetery and Monk’s Castle in Lemont, IL. We expect to see spirits while wandering a cemetery, but how would you feel if you encountered a congregation of creepy monks dressed in black floating amongst the tombstones? Even when you expect to see a ghost, that’s got to be a little unnerving.
18 May 2022 | Episode 69: “Once you go ghost, it’s what you want the most.” | 01:10:21
Fair warning… this episode is NSFW. It is the Spooky Wednesday that Kala had been waiting for… Episode 69! Kala starts the episode with the concept of spectrophelia, where people just love to bang it out with ghosts. This may sound weird, but it’s much more common than you might think. And if it’s not believable, then the multiple sex puns Kala makes may be enough to convince you. If her story still leaves you questioning, you may want to find a ghost lover for yourself. And Brittany tells everyone the tragic tale of Jean Harlow. This celebrity’s life was filled with tragedy, and as a result, her former home may contain echoes after her death. And between the two stories this week we’re left with one common theme… “Because, men!” This episode is sponsored by Earth Rider Brewery in Superior, WI. For more information visit https://Earthrider.beer To find out more about Left of Skeptic, check out our linktree here.
11 Dec 2024 | Episode 201: “He sure is Naddi” | 01:10:00
Happy Spooky Wednesday! We’re starting out this week with a listener request about a very interesting museum: The Iceland Phallological Museum. You read that right. It’s a museum all about penises. One exhibit focuses on the “units” of different cryptids and folklore creatures. Now our question isn’t, “Are these creatures real?” Our question has become, “Are these weenies real?” And Brittany talks about the supposedly most haunted home in Jamaica, The Rose Hall Great House. According to legend Annie Palmer, the "White Witch of Rose Hall", is said to haunt the grounds of the former sugar plantation. She murdered her husbands and tortured enslaved people. But how much of the Palmer legend is true?
13 Nov 2024 | Episode 197: "High Fae Minnesotan Smut" | 01:12:47
Happy Spooky Wednesday, everyone! This week we’ve got two stories that will leave you wondering, "Are humans cursed or blessed?" Kala starts by discussing Anthropodermic bibliopegy—the practice of binding books in human skin. At its peak during the Victorian era, many of these volumes still exist in museums, colleges, and private collections today. How to handle these books, though, has been a matter of debate for years, and it doesn’t seem like the debate is going to end anytime soon. Then Brittany talks about the (much nicer) Third Man Syndrome. This phenomenon happens when humans are in life-or-death situations. People feel the presence of a being that, while not actually there, calms and assists them in their time of need. Is this the human brain playing tricks under stress? A religious experience? Helpful spirits? We may never know, but it’s certainly a heck of a lot more pleasant to think about than books wrapped in human leather. Editor's Note: The highwaymen that Brittany was thinking of were the Harpe Brothers... and they were awful.
25 Sep 2024 | Episode 190: "I'm a professional Skeptic" | 01:11:44
Happy Spooky Wednesday, everyone! We have an iconic episode this week, because we’re covering two absolute icons. First up, Kala talks about Joan Crawford, who may have been haunted and/or haunted others. There is no denying her impact in Hollywood, but has she remained past her death? When her estranged daughter’s classic movie “Mommie Dearest” was filmed, the set was plagued with strange activity, especially around the actress who was set to play Crawford in the film. But it turns out the paranormal activity may have existed before Crawford passed. And Brittany talks about the only sea monster to rival Nessie: Champ of Lake Champlain. This creature is known around the world. And while many places write off these beings as explorers mistaking fish for something more sinister, the evidence for Champ is more compelling than most! Evidence so bananas that you may be able to see it on Netflix before you know it! We end the episode with two intriguing listener stories! Make sure to join us next week for the start of our fourth annual Urban Legends October!
28 Feb 2024 | Episode 160: "I bet that PR guy got fired." | 01:29:12
Happy Spooky Wednesday folks! We’re going full X-Files this week with a Kala takeover where she discusses the Roswell incident and Area 51. In the late 1940’s a mysterious and unidentified object crash landed in a field. This was followed by leading newspaper headlines, sketchy government involvement, and way too many conspiracy theories to count. This is, by far, one of the most referenced events when people discuss the mystery that is Area 51. But what is really going on out there in the Nevada desert? Weapons or UFOs? Soldiers or Aliens? Analysis or control? Maybe all of the above?
28 Dec 2022 | Episode 100: Vampire Spectacular with The Prophecy Girls: A Buffy Rewatch Podcast! | 01:39:13

We are joined by Kara and Steph of The Prophecy Girls: A Buffy Rewatch Podcast to celebrate this momentous occasion. And we’re talking about Vampires, because this is the most perfect subject, obviously. Are these creatures real cryptids? An old folk tale? An excuse for serial killers? Or a lifestyle choice? 10 Jul 2024 | Episode 179: "... now we're just naming pits." | 01:09:21
Happy Spooky Wednesday, folks! It may be summer outside, but we're keeping it creepy here on the podcast. Kala had a special seeeeester birthday request for a haunted museum, and so she covered world's largest museum, education, and research complex, The Smithsonian Institute! Considering how many artifacts these buildings hold, it's no surprise that some ghosts have come along with them. And it's not just visitors who have had experiences, the staff has lots of tales to tell too! And Brittany talks about the legend of The Green Children of Woolpit. Years ago, two children were found next to a pit full of angry, snarling wolves (okay... not really. It was just a pit). What makes this situation even weirder? The kids were green! Where did they come from? Were they fae? Aliens? Sickly humans? Sadly, with this happening so many centuries ago, we may never know for sure.
26 Apr 2023 | Episode 117: "I want to go LARPing in Ohio!" | 01:10:56
Happy Spooky Wednesday, everyone! We've got some classic locations for you this week: haunted hotels and an abandoned castle (well, castle adjacent). First, Kala reflects on her recent trip to Las Vegas, NV by discussing Flamingo Las Vegas and Westgate Las Vegas. The Flamingo Hotel and Casino was the desert dream of famous gangster Bugsy Siegel. He was killed before he was able to see the success of the business, but he may be sticking around to oversee his business in the afterlife. But this haunting is mild compared to what happens just off the strip. The Westgate is haunted by none other than the king of rock & roll, Elvis Presley! And he's not the only spirit hanging around the property. Hotel rooms and elevators have their own spirits lingering, especially in the mirrors, the light fixtures, and the showers. You read that right... the showers. And no one wants to see a random hand while showering, right? Well... if you stay at the Westgate, that just might be your experience, and we've got the personal encounter stories to back that claim up. And Brittany tells us all about Squire's Castle in Willoughby Hills, OH. This building gives us gorgeous, renaissance fair vibes, but the lady of the house wasn't as big of a fan. She described the location as "exceedingly rustic" and we don't think she meant that in a good way. And we can't fully disagree... give me indoor plumbing, or give me death. And she may not have escaped this rustic home even in death, as there have been reports of apparitions, the eerie red glow of a lantern, disembodied screams, and orbs. But if you can handle the ghostly activity, it might make an excellent place for a LARPing campaign!
16 Aug 2023 | Episode 133: "Ouija Boards don't kill people." | 01:17:51
Happy Spooky Wednesday, folks! First up this week, Kala has an important question: Alien or Cryptid? The Flatwoods Monster scared the butts off some West Virginia residents back in 1952. There are three different documented occurrences of this creature all within the same year, and it didn't make a great impression with its weird shaped head, glowing red eyes, metallic dress, and terrible smell. The whole "crashing down from the sky" thing didn't seem to help much either. While we may feel this is a pretty cut-and-dry alien story, there has been some debate on whether this creature is actually a cryptid. Either way, the story was intriguing enough at the time to be included in Project Blue Book. And last week Brittany told us all about this history of the Ouija board, so this week she's telling us stories of people's experiences with the ouija board. It would appear this Hasbro game has been blamed for many tragedies throughout the years. So is it the Ouija boards' fault, or are people just using this investigative tool as a scapegoat for their crimes? We end the episode with a listener story about the cutest little ghost ever!
02 Nov 2022 | Episode 92: “Scream because I can no longer scream.” | 00:59:37
Happy Spooky Wednesday! This week we have a creepy New Jersey week, but not creepy for the reasons you might associate either the state. Nothing to do with Pauly D or Snooki. First Kala talks about haunted NJ roads: Annie’s Road, Clinton Road, and Shade of Death Road. Each stretch of pavement has their own back stories that result in haunted tales including a woman in white, a coin-retrieving ghost boy, and figure shaped mists. And Brittany talks about the Hotel Macomber in Cape May, which has no less than 9 ghosts. That’s right. More than 8, but maybe not 10? One spirit has been a guest since the 1940s, long past her death, banging her trunk up and down the stairs ever since. Another just wants the poor kitchen staff to take a breather in the walk in freezer. All in all, they seem pretty helpful. We end the episode with a beautiful and touching listener story involving a ghost puppers!

24 Apr 2024 | Episode 168: “Who you gonna call? CHAD!” | 01:18:13
Happy Spooky Wednesday, everyone! We have a special guest, Chad Brown (AKA C-Silence), with us this week! You can catch him this Homegrown both solo, and with his group, Boog3ym3n! First up, Kala tells us all about the Wyoming Frontier Prison in Rawlins, Wyoming. This building opened in the early 1900s, and like all prisons from that time, it has a terrible history of mistreating prisoners and horrible conditions. Add in a bit of the "wild west frontier" vibe, and you've got the perfect recipe for a haunting. And Brittany, as she hinted at last week, tells us about The Dakota in New York City, New York. This Upper West Side Manhattan apartment building is home to many rich and famous people, and has been throughout its history. But an outrageous rent is not keeping the ghosties away. They're out here not living their best after-life, making sure all the celebrities in the building know that they're still around. It is the last week to enter for a chance to win a week-long Homegrown Music Festival pass! (That's a $40 value, y'all!) Listen for the code word this episode, and be sure you've gotten the code words out of the last three episodes! DM us on Facebook or Instagram with the words and you'll be entered! We'll draw on Friday, April 26th, and contact the two winners on whatever platform they messaged us with! Thank you so much for participating this month, and thank you to all the special guests who came by and had fun with us!
10 Apr 2024 | Episode 166: "He's done with the funny business" | 01:44:18
Happy Spooky Wednesday, friends! We've got special guest Breanne Marie of Breanne Marie and the Front Porch Sinners with us this week! First up, Kala talks about The Mizpah Hotel and The Clown Motel in Tonopah, Nevada. The Mizpah is a historic hotel that got its start during a mining boom, and has continued for over a hundred years to provide people with excellent service, a fun experience, and ghosts. Each floor from the fifth down to the basement holds the potential for the paranormal including a Lady in Red, giggling ghostly children, and menacing miners. And what better way to celebrate having one of Duluth's queens of country in the studio than to talk about an outlaw! Brittany talks about Jesse James and his family's farm. Jesse and his family, it turns out, were not great people. And their ghosts have stuck around to remind us of that. ***Make sure to listen for the Homegrown Code Word and send us a message!! We are giving away two week-long wristbands to this year's Duluth Homegrown Music Festival! 06 Oct 2021 | Episode 37: "Maybe she's born with it. Maybe it's Maybelline. Maybe it's the souls of many young girls." | 01:48:00
Happy Spooky Wednesday! The first spooky Wednesday of the spookiest month of the year, which brings us to the first special series in our podcast history: Urban Legends October! To mark our very special episode is a very special guest: Adam Herman! He is a singer, songwriter, author, and all-around badass that you may have heard in The Slamming Doors, The Oddville Revue, or The PodCostner. This week we all discuss one of the best-known urban legends around, Bloody Mary. Is this urban legend the ghost of a woman who burned almost 300 people in the name of catholicism? Is she a witch that was accused of killing village children to keep her youth? Is she simply the product of an overzealous group of preteens? All we know is this urban legend took on a life of its own at some point and continues to be spread across the world where a bunch of young people try to invoke the spirit of this murderous woman. And we have no idea why. Do you? This episode is sponsored by Earth Rider Brewery in Superior, WI. For more information visit https://earthrider.beer
05 Jul 2023 | Episode 127: “hypoallergenic cat demon” | 01:14:31
Happy Spooky Wednesday! We've got a very special guest this week: Left of Skeptic Super Fan Gina! We start the episode with the third annual Kala's seeeester birthday request: haunted campsites. Kala talks about Lake Morena in San Diego, Big Moose Lake in the Adirondacks, Crystal Lake Campground in Los Angeles County, and Cameron Park in Waco. Each recreation area is haunted in different ways, but they all have tragic occurrences in their history that may be the cause of the hauntings. Pick your poison. Do you want the creepy, levitating figure of a man whose disembodied footsteps have been heard all around the property? Or do you want to experience phantom hands tugging at your clothes and hair? Or do you want to witness the misty figure of a devastated woman who was betrayed by an ex-lover? Your choice could determine the direction of your next road trip! And Brittany tells us all about Kasha House of Kaimuki, our first ever Hawaii location! Considered one of the most well known urban legends on the island, the house looks relatively normal, but looks can be deceiving. A Kasha, a man-eating ghost from Japanese folklore, is said to reside inside the home. Other theories behind the haunting include a ghoul who feeds on the dead, and a cat-like demon. All three versions have one thing in common: insatiable hunger for blood and corpses. So, that's pleasant. With such dark subject matter, do you think we've scared Gina away for good? Of course not! She's giving skeptic scale ratings right along with us! Thank you so much for joining us, Gina! Make sure to check out her recommendation for another great podcast to check out: The Night Owl Podcast out of Austin, TX! And Happy Birthday Seeeeeeeeeeester Sara! Have the best time camping! Let us know if you see any ghosts! And thanks to all of you listeners! We love and appreciate you very much!
02 Feb 2022 | Episode 54: "Spill the tea, Bell Witch! Spill the tea!" | 01:01:46
We’re back to our regularly scheduled programming this Spooky Wednesday with some haunted locations and subjects! First, Kala takes us back to Grand Haven, MI to discuss two haunted restaurants, the Kirby House Restaurant and the Dee-Lite Bar & Grill. Are the ghosts Emily and John actually the same ghost from the demolished Grand Theater? What do you think? And Brittany tells us about the classic tale of The Bell Witch! Which is so much more in-depth than Kala ever realized. The Bell Witch might have been evil, but man, did she have ALL THE HAWT GOSS!* It’s good to be back to normal and we’re excited to continue to share these spooky tales with you! *Please forgive Kala for this statement.
23 Nov 2022 | Episode 95: “No hands. Only arms.” | 01:02:25
Happy Spooky Wednesday! We’re starting this week out with a mystery! Kala talks about the ghost ship Mary Celeste. In the 1870s she was found adrift at sea. Her cargo of alcohol was mostly intact, and the captain's and crew's belongings were in place, but no one was there. None of those who had been on board were ever seen or heard from again. What happened? People have their theories, both realistic and outlandish, but the truth is that no one will ever know for sure. And Brittany talks about Aston Hall in Birmingham, England. There are many ghosts in this large, beautiful building. Most of them seem to be present because of the horrible actions of the Hall’s first resident, Sir Thomas Holte. Whether you’re a non-believer, left of skeptic, or fully bought in, Aston Hall’s stories are sure to shock you. A boy accused of thievery, a daughter locked away for years, and a cook who has never left, are all strong indicators that how you treat people has a long, long-lasting effect.
04 Jan 2023 | Episode 101: "There's a lot of good women with a lot of bad backs." | 00:51:50
Happy Spooky Wednesday and a Happy New Year everyone! It's the first episode of the first month of the year, and you know what that means: TRUE CRIME JANUARY! That's right! Brittany's favorite month has come around again, and we're starting it out right. Lavinia Fisher is considered by many to be the first female serial killer in the United States. In the early 1800s, with the help of her husband John, Lavinia killed many men within the walls of the Six Mile Wayfarer House. When they were eventually caught, she didn't pretend to be sorry... she got mad. So mad that her ghost still hangs out around the land and building of The Old Jail, making sure that people know exactly how she feels.
02 Mar 2022 | Episode 58: "She's like a 'Priority Pincher'" | 00:59:01
Happy Spooky Wednesday! This week Kala tells you about the humorously named Slippery Noodle Inn in Indianapolis, IN. This rockin' restaurant and bar features delicious food and drink, jazz music every night of the week, (maybe) a body buried in the basement, and a variety of ghostly entities. Customers and employees have had experiences on all three floors of this building, but apparently the ghosts are pretty chill because it's had the same owners for decades and shows no signs of anyone leaving. And Brittany will take us on a journey to the other side of the country to tell us about the Geiser Grand Hotel in Baker City, OR. This hotel got it's start during the gold rush era, and don't let this elegant building's fancy window sashes and clock tower fool you. It's got ghosts... including ones that might pinch you if you sit in their favorite chair at the bar. Kala's also got some podcast recommendations for y'all this week! At the top of the episode she tells you about Sounds Like a Cult, Ghostly, and Believing the Bizarre. If any of these podcasts sound up your alley, check out the "Podcasts We Heart" highlights on @leftofskeptic Instagram for links to their episodes! This episode is sponsored by The Great Lakes Aquarium in Duluth, MN. 15 Mar 2023 | Episode 111: "Baggin’ on Bagans" | 01:20:03
Happy Spooky Wednesday, folks! This week is like Sesame Street, full of storytelling and learning about numbers. Well, Sesame Street if the stories involved hauntings and mocking paranormal celebrities, and the numbers were considered unlucky. Kala is telling us about a haunted guitar that went for sale on Reverb 5 years ago. The seller spins a yarn so fantastical and verbose that it caught the eye of the one and only Zak Bagans. You can just imagine how well that went over with us. But is it just a tale or is the instrument actually haunted by the devil-worshiping teen who owned it? And Brittany tells us about the number 13 and why so many people think it’s unlucky. Is it biblical? Mythological? Real? We aren’t sure, but there are definitely a lot of bad things people associate with this number. So much so that they have a word for the fear of it. A word we can not pronounce. Buckle up for an episode full of big words, big laughs, and lots of questionable stories!
25 Jan 2023 | Episode 104: “I think something might have happened…” | 01:04:14
Happy Spooky Wednesday! This is the last week of 2023's True Crime January and we are finishing off with a bang! Or a chop... We're talking about the infamous Boise Murder House, better known to residents of Boise, Idaho as the Chop-Chop House. ***CONTENT WARNING*** This week's true crime is a bit more graphic than we've covered in the past. There is descriptions of the murder that might make some listeners uncomfortable. If you're not comfy listening to this, you can skip ahead to 26:05 for the TL;DR. This site of a gruesome murder in 1980s is now reported to be haunted by the ghost of the man who was murdered. Locals tell tales of blood running down walls and people being seen in the windows, but is it true or is it just a college town that likes to scare the freshman? And Kala finishes up TCJ by trying to stump Brittany with some interesting true crime facts. "Trying" being the key word. Thank you for hanging out with us this True Crime January. We can't wait until next week when we celebrate 2 years of Spooky Wednesdays with y'all! We love you and appreciate you! OK, byeeeee!
27 Sep 2023 | Epsidoe 139: "Bathsheda vs. Bethesda" | 01:16:43
Happy Spooky Wednesday, friends! We hope you’re enjoying your fall as much as we are! We’ve got two haunted locations for you this evening, and both of them are waaaaaay old. Kala talks about The Farm on Round Top Road in Rhode Island, also known as The Conjuring House. This farmhouse inspired the movie The Conjuring, and the paranormal activity in the house is just as scary. It just may be one of the most haunted houses in America, especially if you believe the stories told by the Perron family who lived there for a decade in the 70s. And Brittany tells us all about the historic Old Bermuda Inn in Staten Island, NY. This beautiful building is haunted by a woman whose love never returned from the civil war. That love was strong enough to keep her around even after her death. She promised to leave a light on for him, and she’s keeping that promise to this day.
22 Feb 2023 | Episode 108: "Haunted Dolls are basically like beta fish." | 01:27:15
Happy Spooky Wednesday, dear listeners! We've got a special treat for you this week with the return of Adam Herman! And he's not just here to comment this week... he's got stories of his own to tell! First up, Kala talks about Devil's Gulch in Garretson, SD. Legend says that long ago, this is where legendary Old West outlaw Jesse James made the leap of his life! And while we know that old western tales often lead to haunting, Jesse isn't the one to frequent this area... that's a more tragic story. Next, Adam shares two stories with us that both tie into his upcoming book, Villa Leila: A Muddy Tale of Love and Monsters. Both based in his hometown of Quincy, IL, he tells us about a haunted mansion and a ghost known to locals as the Levee Walker. Finally, Brittany tells us about the haunted doll known as Peggy. The spirit residing in this doll gives off such a strong energy that it has made people feel sick in its presence, or even just from looking at its photo! And this isn't just hearsay, the evidence piled up around this haunted object makes its legitimacy hard to deny. If you live in the Twin Ports, be sure to hit up the Villa Leila Launch Party at Bent Paddle Brewing Co. on Thursday, March 9th from 5:00pm - 9:00pm. Books will be available for sale at the party, along with live music from Lyla & Marshall Duo and Robin Hood Was Right. If you want to order Villa Leila (or Adam's previous book Limbo), you can do so online at Zenith Bookstore! Thank you for helping us support local businesses and local artists. We love and appreciate you all very much!
09 Feb 2022 | Episode 55: “I want to know who handles mergers and acquisitions for cemeteries.” | 01:05:47
Happy Spooky Wednesday! We’re going full Universal Classic Monsters on y’all with tales of a vampire and a mummy! Brittany takes us over to London to talk about High Gate Cemetery and its resident sharp-toothed fiend. And Kala talked about the case of The Priestess if Amen-Ra, also sometimes referred to as The Unlucky Mummy. This mummy board is rumored to have caused the sinking of the Titanic. What did we learn this week?
04 Dec 2024 | Episode 200: "Wolf Mafia 2026!" | 02:11:39
Happy Spooky Wednesday! We are celebrating our 200th episode this week with special guests Kara Babcock and Stephanie Chow of Prophecy Girls: A Buffy Rewatch Podcast! In case you missed it, they joined us for our 100th episode, where we talked all about vampires. What goes best with vampires? Werewolves. These shapeshifting creatures look human by day, but on the nights where a full moon shines, their animal side takes over! These cryptids have been discussed for years, and the lore varies from culture to culture. We're here to discuss their origins, sightings over the years, and that burning question: "Why are werewolves so hot?" We want to thank you all for being with us for 200 episodes! We can't wait for more! ______________________________________________________________________ Kara's Book Recommendations: Bitten | Kelley Armstrong Grandmistress of paranormal fantasy Kelley Armstrong brings a werewolf story like no other. Elena is a werewolf trying to make it work with a normal human guy, but when her Pack Alpha summons her, she has no choice but to leave Toronto and travel to New York to confront him and the werewolf who bit her. Soulless | Gail Carriger First in the Parasol Protectorate series. This is an alternative Victorian England where the supernatural is not only real but openly acknowledged. As the series goes on, the protagonist ends up married to a werewolf member of the peerage. There’s some Alpha-type romance stuff happening. Autumn Bones | Jacqueline Carey Second in the Agent of Hel trilogy sees the protagonist at the vertex of a love angle with a werewolf and a ghoul, both hot as hell. This is one of the more explicit series I have read, and it’s a great story of Norse mythology meets the Midwest (Lake Michigan area). Kitty and the Midnight Hour | Carrie Vaughn The eponymous Kitty Norville is a werewolf with a midnight radio show. A member of an abusive pack, Kitty ends up in conflict with the local vampire Master, and all hell breaks loose. Sisters Red | Jackson Pearce Little Red Riding Hood retelling about sisters who slay werewolves. Scarlett and Rosie March are young when a werewolf kills their grandmother, leaving them orphaned and virtually alone in the world. Sam and Dean vibes, people. Empire of Wild | Cherie Dimaline Métis author Cherie Dimaline brings us a retelling of the legend of the rougarou. Set off the shores of Georgian Bay, this book is about a woman looking for her missing husband. Her latest clue is a charismatic cult leader whose machismo is as mysterious as it is deadly.
02 Aug 2023 | Episode 131: "A Wonky Donkey" | 01:18:57
Happy Spooky Wednesday! Kala is back from vacation just in time for a giggly little podcast. We start with Kala talking about the Eloise Psychiatric Hospital, or Eloise Asylum, in Westland, MI. This is one of the most haunted locations in Michigan. Are we surprised? Nope. We know how these old abandoned hospitals go. Multiple paranormal investigators have found EVPs, seen misty figures, and heard strange disembodied voices within its halls. And what a bonus for the public that this haunted former hospital may not give us a haunted hotel, haunted restaurant, and haunted bar! And then Brittany tells us all about the famous cryptid known as the Jersey Devil. There have been over 1,000 sightings of this creature, which makes it hard to deny its existence. Although, people seem to have a hard time getting on the same track with the descriptions. Does it look like a horse? A goat? A kangaroo? An ostrich? A wonky donkey? It would seem that the only way to know is to show up in New Jersey and find out for yourself. The appearances have been consistent over decades, so your chances are good! And we end the episode with a short and sweet listener story!

12 Jul 2023 | Episode 128: "Fine. No one's an abomination..." | 00:59:36
Happy Spooky Wednesday, our loves! This week we’ve got a classic haunting and a cursed soul for your enjoyment. Kala talks about Casa Loma in Toronto, Ontario. This mansion/castle was built in the early 1900s. The only tragedy that seems to have befallen this place is that it’s original owners couldn’t afford the upkeep, but that hasn’t prevented the place from being haunted. A woman in white, a handsy man in the tunnels, and a tape-stealing lady of the house are just some of the ghosts you may encounter here. And Brittany tells us the tale of Robert Johnson. He was a blues singer/songwriter who… well… sucked. Until he didn’t. He became an inspiration for many with his music, but where did this skill come from? Was it practice? Or was it a deal with the devil? We may never know.

30 Mar 2022 | Episode 62: "Swaggy cattle!" | 01:02:44
Happy Spooky Wednesday, everybody! What's the biggest takeaway from this episode? It's raining men down in Manville. It's raining men. This week Kala takes us to Newark, Ohio to talk about the Old Licking County Jail. This jail has had a history of tragedies including deaths of inmates and wardens along with hosting some very odd serial killers. As a result, they've got shadow figures, objects that move on their own, and evidence of disembodied voices captured through EVPs and spirit boxes. This location is yet another example of why you should not destroy historical buildings because ghosts DO NOT like it. And then Brittany travels to Trail End, also known as the John B. Kendrick Mansion, in Sheridan, Wyoming. This location is unintentionally full of laughs in regards to Texas having cattle full of swag, a son named Manville, and a ton of cowboy jokes. This location also has ghosts. Obviously. If you've been a fan of Kala bursting into song randomly... this is also the episode for you.
28 Apr 2021 | Episode 14: "It's not a deer and WE NEED TO LEAVE." | 00:53:44
This week Kala talks about the Sallie House in Atchison, KS. Though the lore behind the location leaves a lot to the imagination, it's certainly got the activity to prove that something happened in this house. And Brittany tells us about not-deer, a cryptid found in the Appalachian mountain area. These creatures may look like deer, but they are absolutely NOT deer.
07 Aug 2024 | Episode 183: "Well, that was... wacky." | 01:09:57
Happy Spooky Wednesday, friends! Yes, we’re a paranormal podcast, but this week we’re also a paranormal drama podcast! We’ve got the hot goss on one of the most famous haunted locations in the United States, The Conjuring House. In the last couple of years, things have gone a bit off the rails, and we’ve got the full story so you don’t have to dig for yourself. What happens when the ghosts of a house tell a boss how to handle their employees? The biggest scare of all is unpaid wages. And Brittany tells us all about The Monte Cristo Historic Homestead in Junee, Australia. There are at least 10 ghosts who haunt Monte Cristo; including the original owners, former servants, and children. At least one of these ghosts HATES animals. The owner of The Conjuring House might claim that their location is the most haunted place in the world, but we think The Monte Cristo definitely has it beat.
20 Jul 2022 | Episode 78: “You’re pushing your faerie narrative onto my UFO experiences.” | 01:12:19
Happy spooky Wednesday, everyone! It’s a Kala Birthday Takeover this week! She’s telling you all about Skinwalker Ranch in Utah! There is so much information there is no way to do it without using up a whole episode! This 512-acre property has been experiencing UFO visits, strange noises, crop circles, and dead cows since the early 1900s. And they still continue to this day!
30 Oct 2024 | Episode 195: Sorry about the whistling. | 01:07:00
Content warning: Kala’s story this week includes some discussion of suicide. If you wish to skip this topic, jump to Brittany’s story at 42:08. Happy Spooky Wednesday and HAPPY HALLOWEEN, EVERYONE! It's our final week of Urban Legends October, and we have two stories to get you into the holiday mood. First, Kala talks about Lavender Town Syndrome. According to urban legend, this level in the first two Pokémon GameBoy games led over 200 people to commit suicide. Was it the music or the sad content? Is it a conspiracy that Nintendo is trying to cover up? Or is the whole thing made up? And Brittany tells us about the legend of The Whistler. In this creepy story, a person heard whistling as a child, then the exact same whistling again 2 years later in a completely different place. That’s not too creepy, right? It gets weirder. As an adult, they hear the same whistling AGAIN, on a camping trip with their girlfriend - causing them to look further into what this could be… Once he had an idea of what might be going on, that’s when the creepiness really began.
18 Aug 2021 | Episode 30: "I literally googled 'Franklin Castle + porn'!" | 01:07:51
This Spooky Wednesday marks our 30th episode! We're celebrating the same way we celebrate every week, by telling you some haunted tales! Kala talks about the mystery of The Vanishing Hitchhiker and the history behind this very old legend. And Brittany tells us about The Franklin Castle in Cleveland, OH, where a revolving door of owners and renovations (and porn? maybe?) has led to some very strange occurrences. And of course, since Ohio is mentioned in this episode, Kala has to burst into song at least once! We end the episode with a Reddit tale that is sure to leave you smiling. This episode is sponsored by Earth Rider Brewery in Superior, WI. For more information visit https://earthrider.beer
21 Sep 2022 | Episode 86: “Interactive haunting: the guests are in on it too.” | 01:03:33
Happy Spooky Wednesday! Kala is back with another creepy transportation-related story this week, though this time it’s more mysterious than spectral. In the early 20th century, the Charfield Railway Disaster resulted in many deaths and injuries, but the “Two Unknowns” are two victims still discussed to this day. Who were they? Members of the royal family? Homeless children in the wrong place at the wrong time? Ventriloquist dummies? And who is the woman who visited their graves for decades? And are the ghosts of these two unknowns still hanging out around the tracks? This story almost leaves you with more questions than answers. And Brittany talks about 17Hundred90 Inn in Savannah, GA, which is actually multiple buildings. The oldest was built in the early 1800s, and what have we learned on this podcast so far? Old usually equals haunted. Whether it be the ghost of Anne with her blankets, Thaddeus with his pennies, or any of the other spirits in the building, this Inn is practically bursting with the paranormal! And as a sweet surprise, we end it all with a listener story from our favorite Gina! Enter Write to Kala Moria
15 Jun 2022 | Episode 73: "Wow. Keening... I have drastically misread that situation." | 01:05:36
Happy Spooky Wednesday! This week Kala is taking it back to the Midwest with the story of Hotel Hell. No, not the Gordon Ramsey show… the Maribel Caves Hotel in Maribel, WI. Once upon a time, this hotel was a gorgeous building built on a flowing mineral spring, occasionally frequented by gangsters. Hits all the best points. But after a fire and a tornado, it’s now in ruins reminiscent of a creepy, haunted castle. The question is: Is it creepy and haunted? Or just creepy? And Brittany regales us with stories of Banshees! Are they cryptids? Are they ghosts? Turns out it’s neither, and that’s very surprising. Are they what the media has made them out to be? Turns out that they aren’t, and that is not very surprising. Either way, these weeping, scary creatures are not something you hope to encounter. This week's episode is sponsored by Earth Rider Brewery in Superior, WI. 03 Nov 2021 | Episode 41: "KALA! GAY STREET!" | 01:19:17
This Spooky Wednesday we’re heading to New York! Kala starts by talking about two different locations in Greenwich Village, New York City. The famous Washington Square Park, where tons of people walk around every day… walk around on the burial ground of thousands of bodies. Bodies that keep turning up with every redesign and road construction. And a short walk away on Gay Street, you might encounter the Phantom of Gay Street, who may be a tulpa or he may just be a dapper gent stuck in an afterlife loop attempting to get home from a drunken party. And Brittany takes us to the Morris-Jumel House… a historical house haunted by its less-than-reputable former owner Eliza. Her name was Eliza, but not that Eliza. Not a Schuyler sister, but a good friend of Aaron Burr, sir. Bonus points if you can catch every Hamilton reference Kala makes during Brittany’s story. There's a lot of them. And while Brittany may not have gotten the Hamilton references, she definitely did not miss the Ghostbusters detail that Kala tried to sneak in. This episode is sponsored by Earth Rider Brewery in Superior, WI. For more information visit https://earthrider.beer
03 Jul 2024 | Episode 178: "That's weird, right?!" | 01:02:50
Happy Spooky Wednesday, friends! This week has us asking “How often do coincidences actually happen?” First, Kala talks about precognitive dreams (premonitions). There is a long history of us receiving warnings in our sleep. Should we heed every bad dream? What’s the risk if we don’t? And Brittany revisits weird coincidences throughout history. These stories are so weird, right? You might be able to say one or two examples are just by chance, but Brittany has way more than one or two examples. Do both of our stories include weird things that people say are coincidences? Do both of our stories have us asking “That’s weird, right?” Do both of our stories involve Abe Lincoln? The answer is yes to all three. What are the chances?
21 Jul 2021 | Episode 26: "The story of death whistles..." | 00:45:56
Happy Spooky Wednesday! And Happy Birthday Kala! This week Kala and Brittany are heading overseas! On this special birthday episode, Kala is covering the haunted Poveglia Island in Italy and Brittany will be telling you about the nearly 900-year-old Ancient Ram Inn in Great Britain.
29 Sep 2021 | Episode 36: “Everything that I read said that all of the ghosts seemed super hip… super chill.” | 01:06:31
Happy Spooky Wednesday! This week is heavily and unintentionally inspired by the TV show Supernatural. Kala is talking about one of her favorite cursed objects this week: James Dean’s Porsche 550 Spyder known better as “Little Bastard”. This car caused problems wherever it, or parts of it, went. Cars and ghostly tragedies? The only thing that would possibly make this better is if a wrestler were somehow involved. Brittany talks about the Eldridge Hotel in Lawrence, KS, where there are a lot of ghosts. Oddly helpful ghosts. Ghosts who just want guests to be comfy and cool and hydrated. Ghosts who just want to ride the elevator sometimes. And why do bell hops gotta be screaming at them? They just wanna chill out here.

14 Dec 2022 | Episode 98: “I want that tasteless chill tonic” | 00:45:36
Happy Spooky Wednesday, y’all! This week Kala talks about the KiMo Theater in Albuquerque, NM. This gorgeous old building has experienced a few disasters in its lifetime. The result? A haunting, of course! The ghost of a boy named Bobby is sure to cause mischief on stage unless he is appeased with donuts and sweets. And Brittany talks about The Omni Grove Park Inn in Asheville, NC, bringing us our very first tale of a Pink Lady! It’s not Rizzo from Grease, it’s the Grove Park Inn's resident and much-loved phantom. She is said to be the spirit of a young woman who fell to her death from a balcony on the fifth floor of the Inn in the 1920s. Both ghosts this week are known for harmless pranks, but that doesn’t mean it’s not freaking visitors out. It also doesn’t mean we don’t want to see it for ourselves.
31 Jan 2024 | Episode 156: True Crime January | Glensheen | 01:28:58
Happy Spooky Wednesday! For our last week of True Crime January we are heading home and revisiting a location from our first-ever episode! Glensheen Mansion is a gorgeous, historic building on the shores of Lake Superior in Duluth, MN. Built for a family that helped build Duluth as we know it today, it would be interesting just for its structure. But it’s got more than that going for it… it’s got ghosts. For decades, employees and visitors alike have reported strange experiences in the house and on the grounds. If you visit you might experience anything from an uneasy feeling all the way to a full blown apparition. There may have been some haunting we’ve questioned in the past, but this one has us fully convinced.

28 Jul 2021 | Episode 27: "I want a leather black duster." "I know you do." | 01:08:06
This week is all Brittany bay-bee! This Spooky Wednesday, Brittany tells us all about the phenomenon known best as The Glitch in the Matrix. These errors in our everyday life may leave you wondering if our world is as it seems, or a simulation that we exist in without realizing it. Kala, fresh back from her Californian vacation, shares an extra-long anonymous listener story which makes you wonder if Duluth's Lakeside is really as nice as it seems. Doppleganger-real-life-slash-computer-errors? Thank you! But also no thank you! This episode is sponsored by Earth Rider Brewery in Superior, WI. 06 Sep 2023 | Episode 136: "Poor Jeff…” | 01:12:00
Happy Spooky Wednesday, everyone! We’ve got one happy haunting for you this week, and one very unhappy haunting. First, Kala talks about The Grand in Oshkosh, WI, and by gosh, it’s just so wholesome. No tragic tales sparked the ghosties here. As far as we can tell, it’s just some theater nerds who stuck around because they loved that business we call show. A lifelong caretaker, enthusiastic audience members, and a mischievous pup are just some of the specters you may encounter at this theater! And Brittany tells us about the San Pedro haunting. This 80s occurrence is no joke, they’ve got photos and video to back it up. And the many experiences of one poor investigator named Jeff who just can’t seem to catch a break. Just when you think it might let up, things get more intense! But we’ll have to wait until next week to hear about that…
13 Jul 2022 | Episode 77: "Like growl, without the G” **Literally growls** "No." | 00:55:28
Happy Spooky Wednesday, y’all! This week Kala tells you about the Littlefield House on the campus of the University of Texas in Austin. This building is over a century old, and is haunted by the ghost of the former lady of the house… and possibly some music majors. And Brittany takes us over to Italy to talk about the Palazzo Dario. It’s a winding tale with a lot of death and a lot of difficult-to-pronounce names. You’re in for a treat with this one! And if you know Italian… send us a message and let us know how to say these names please! To submit your listener story or request a haunted location: linktr.ee/leftofskeptic

06 Jul 2022 | Episode 76: The Return of the Black Eyed Kids | 00:55:36
Happy Spooky Wednesday, y’all! And this Wednesday is extra spooky for a listener request. Listener Sara (Kala’s seeeeester) makes a special birthday request for more Black-Eyed Children stories, and Kala does not disappoint with three creepy stories that will leave you reluctant to answer the door. Especially for kids. And Brittany, in protest of some of our country's bulls**t, heads over to the UK to talk about The Black Swan Inn located in York, England. This building with centuries of history certainly has the ghosts you would expect, and some you wouldn’t. This entire episode is sure to leave you questioning if you should shut all your lights off tonight. This week’s episode is sponsored by the Great Laksa Aquarium in Duluth, MN. Visit GLAquarium.org for details.
12 May 2021 | Episode 16: "Great. I'll just cancel the appointment for the exorcist. No biggie!" | 00:55:39
This week Kala talks about the two ghosts with very different style choices that haunt the halls of The Drake hotel in Chicago, IL. And Brittany discusses the Central State Hospital, formerly known as the Central Indiana Hospital for the Insane in Indianapolis, IN. This building's tragic history while it was in operation has led to some interesting activity now that it is abandoned. Finally, our listener story helps us realize how we would handle it when faced with the possibility that our partners might become possessed while on vacation.
13 Sep 2023 | Episode 137: "It spelled out J-E-F-F." | 01:13:13
Happy Spooky Wednesday, dears! We've kept you on your toes long enough! This week, Brittany is bringing you the spine-chilling conclusion to The San Pedro Haunting! It turns out poor Jackie, Jeff, and the Barrys didn't get enough haunting activity and had to up the ante with a terrifying Ouija board experience. And just when they thought (again) that the experience was over, the haunting followed the family some more. But before we dive into that terrifying tale, Kala brings some lighthearted fun with her Top 5 funniest cryptids. These are creatures throughout the world that are lesser known, less believable, but bring us quite a few laughs. Which of these animals would you rather run into in a dark alley? The flying monkey? Or maybe the 4-foot-tall frog? Even if we find these tales ridiculous now, it didn't stop the locals from spreading the rumors. And just a reminder, we're only a couple of weeks away from our annual Urban Legends October! If you have any creepypastas, local legends, or scary bedtime stories you'd like to hear us talk about, send us a message or Spotify users can type a response in the Q&A down below!
17 Jan 2024 | Episode 154: True Crime January | The Axeman of New Orleans | 01:24:46
Happy Spooky Wednesday! For our third week of 2024 True Crime January, we’ve got the notorious Axeman of New Orleans. This serial killer stalked New Orleans and the surrounding areas in the early 1900s. For over a year, this man brutally ended the lives of many using the tools he found in the homes, especially axes. The Axeman was never identified, and the murders remain unsolved. Is his spirit still lingering on the streets of New Orleans? Or is it just a bad memory that continues to plague the minds of the locals?
15 Dec 2021 | Episode 47: "Oars and sharp sticks against a lake monster? Fer fuck's sake." | 00:56:53
Happy Spooky Wednesday, friends! This week we're all about Wisconsin! Kala starts us off with the mystical Rock Lake near Lake Mills. What secrets does this water hold? Apparently... like two. First, there are mysterious pyramids of an unknown origin on the lake floor, and second, there might be a lake monster named Rocky slithering about. If you're swimming and you hear a loud hissing noise, it may be time to get out of the water. Next, Brittany takes us to the haunted Milwaukee location called Shaker's Cigar Bar. What could be the cause of these ghostly stories? Maybe it’s the fact that it was built on top of a cemetery? Maybe it’s the fact that there are skeletons stuck in the basement concrete? Maybe it’s the spirits leftover from its days as a brothel? Honestly, you could pick and choose any of them and it would probably make sense. To finish it all up, we have a story from Kala’s Weird Wisconsin book that she is not-so-subtly hoping will freak her mom out. Sorry, mom. This episode is sponsored by Earth Rider Brewery in Superior, WI. For more information visit https://earthrider.beer
17 Feb 2021 | Episode 4: "Wrestling is just theater kids that are more athletic." | 01:27:25
Kala and Brittany leave Minnesota behind this week to discuss the Beast of Bray Road in Elkhorn, WI, and The McPike Mansion in Alton, IL. They also chat about TikTok, wrestling, and ghostly fashion sense. And towards the end of the episode, Kala shares a different style of listener story!
23 Aug 2023 | Episode 134: “He’s actually really dead” | 01:30:23
Happy Spooky Wednesday! This week we've got creepy stories galore! Kala talks about Gore Orphanage Road & Swift's Hallow in Vermillion, OH. Once Kala gets over her urge to sing Hawthorne Heights, she ends up telling us a surprisingly complicated tale where the line between truth and urban legend gets awfully blurry. The ruins of this orphanage that existed, but may not have existed as the stories said, is a popular location for "legend tripping". This leaves us wondering if the location is actually haunted, or just a place where bored teenagers go to get themselves all worked up, causing the legend to build even more over time. And Brittany tells us about Concord's Colonial Inn in Concord, MA. The hotel was built before the Revolutionary War began and is located close to the North Bridge. The famous bridge was where the “shot heard around the world” took place. And once Kala gets over her urge to make Hamilton references, Brittany tells us about the events that may make this Inn one of the most haunted places in Massachusetts.
08 Nov 2023 | Epsiode 145: “It’s not Dracula, it’s just this a**hole” | 01:13:28
Happy Spooky Wednesday, folks! Brittany is taking over this week with a story of the North Carolina house known as “Nannie”. Better known as the Poplar Hill Mansion, this historic home surprised one family when they moved in 2014. They definitely got more than they bargained for when they encountered the strange apparitions of women circling the property, unexplained noises, moving objects, and many other paranormal occurrences. When they dug into the history of the building and the land surrounding it, they found all the information needed to explain the haunted behavior… and they promptly moved out less than a year later. Check out the story and tell us, do you believe them? Do you think you’d have what it takes to stay at Nannie?
20 Dec 2023 | Episode 150: " Sinister Klaas a.k.a Daddy December 😉" | 01:00:34
Happy Spooky Wednesday and Happy Holidays, y'all! We've got an episode to tell you all about the reason for the season... giant cats and magical men. First up, Kala talks about Jólakötturinn, or Yule Cat. This creepy kitty wanders towns in Iceland on Christmas Eve to find out which children have been doing their chores and which have not. You better hope you have a new pair of socks in those Christmas presents, or the Yule Cat may eat your dinner and then eat you! We promise it makes more sense once you hear the whole story. And Brittany talks all about Santa Claus. How did this jolly fellow get his rep? Has he always been the Coca-Cola version we know today? No... his origin story is interesting, and something you'll definitely want to hear for yourself. We finish up the episode with some great ways to keep track of Santa this year for you and your kiddos (if you have them.)
25 May 2022 | Episode 70: "I want to walk into a room and be haunted by happiness.” | 00:59:06
Happy Spooky Wednesday! This week we've got a birthday request, a listener story, and a haunting that leaves you feeling happy and calm. Does it get any better than this?! First, Kala covers a listener request for locations out of Annapolis, Maryland. In her search she found two locations that are battling it out for title of most haunted in the city: The James Brice House and The Maryland Inn. The James Brice House is one of the oldest buildings in the city and possibly the country, and it has some skeletons in it's closet (both figuratively and literally). The Maryland Inn is home to the devastating love story of Captain Charles and his bride, one who spends their afterlife pacing in a fourth floor bedroom, and the other who spends their afterlife drinking beer by a fire. Who really gets the best deal here? Next, Brittany takes us to the opposite side of the country to discuss The Starrett House in Port Townsend, Washington. This beautiful, intricately designed mansion was a labor of love by George Starrett for his wife Ann. Many glorious and happy years were spent by the family in this home. That affection has carried on long past their deaths and leaves the home with a very different kind of haunting: a happy haunting. We can all only hope to be so lucky. Bonus: WE HAVE A LISTENER STORY THIS WEEK! Man, it just keeps getting better and better!
18 Dec 2024 | Episode 202: "Let's all hold hands, here on the subway..." | 00:56:33
Happy Spooky Wednesday, everyone! We’ve got some classic Brittany and Kala stories for you this week! First, Kala brings on the ghostly transportation! The Phantom Train of Marshall Pass in Colorado hasn’t been seen in over 100 years, but it’s one spooky story you don’t want to miss. And the Silver Train of Stockholm may be more weird than scary, but it’s definitely interesting. Then Brittany does a call back to one of her absolute favorite subjects... Past Lives! While there is no earthly reason these children should be recalling events from decades before they were even born, they are adamant that they do. And the accuracy of their recollections means we have a hard time questioning them.

06 Nov 2024 | Episode 196: “Molly Brown’s Air BnB” | 01:08:22
Happy Spooky Wednesday, sweet listeners! This week, we’re back to our regularly scheduled programming with two salty little tales. Kala talks about The Saltair near Salt Lake City in Utah. This concert venue has been rebuilt twice after the previous buildings were destroyed by fire and dilapidation. Oddly enough the ghosts seem to be the result of its more recent life, and not the spirits of the building in its heyday. Then Brittany discusses the Molly Brown House in Denver, Colorado. Molly Brown was an absolute badass who is best known for surviving the sinking of the Titanic. But she should be known for so much more. Her philanthropy and ability to make her fellow rich folks give up 'the goods' make us wish we could meet her in person. While she’s long gone, you can still take a tour of her old mansion where you just might catch a glimpse of her in the afterlife.
01 Mar 2023 | Episode 109: "This witch would have done great on TikTok." | 01:20:26
Happy Spooky Wednesday, everyone! We went a bit off the rails this week with some serious stories and some not-so-serious side tangents. To start, Kala talks about the Governor Sprague Mansion in Rhode Island. The political intrigue is high, but not necessarily the reason for the haunting. Nope, you can blame that on a spurned butler and some people that decided it would be a good idea to make a homemade ouija board—no comic sans involved. And Brittany tells us the tale of Isobel Gowdie. This woman was a victim of the witch trials in 1600s Scotland. After listening to her multiple confessions, we are convinced she was born in the wrong time, because she could have made a killing as a YA author. Creative writing for the win. Fair warning, we never expected to talk about the devil’s “member” as much as we did. 📷 Thank you all for joining us this week. We hope you get as many laughs out of this as we did.
28 Aug 2024 | Episode 186: "There are a variety of overalls to consider..." | 01:06:07
Happy Spooky Wednesday, everyone! We are getting close to the end of summer, so we've got some stories this week that just scream "vacation time". First up, Kala talks about Captain Tony's Saloon in Key West, Florida. This bar features tropical drinks, an 'old school Key West' atmosphere, a hanging tree growing inside, some gravestones, bras on the ceiling, and ghosts! What a wide variety of items to create such a unique atmosphere. When you're out partying, just remember to avoid the first stall in the bathroom, and absolutely do not climb the tree! And Brittany tells us all about the Great Minnesota Get Together! That's right, the Minnesota State Fair is haunted. While out searching for food on a stick, you could run into some specters dancing in overalls! Or maybe you'll get a tap on the shoulder while riding Ye Olde Mill! It sounds like all the ghosts are pretty harmless, and we wouldn't mind seeing them for ourselves. Except the pigman. No one wants to run into the pigman.
28 Sep 2022 | Episode 87: “That was the most delightful dead… child?… story I’ve ever heard.” | 01:07:35
Happy Spooky Wednesday, dear listeners! We’re going hard this week with a haunted cemetery, a Canadian poltergeist, and creepy-looking headlights. We start out with Kala talking about Maple Hill Cemetery in Huntsville, AL, and its weird little offshoot, Dead Children’s Playground. DCP features orbs, mists, creepy looming shadows, and swings that move on their own. Is it the spirits of children from the Spanish Flu that ravaged the Huntsville area? Or are these just exaggerated local legends? Either way… it’s oddly adorable and definitely creepy. And Brittany discusses The Great Amherst Mystery from Nova Scotia, Canada. (Featuring Esther Cox… hehehe… Cox) This notorious case of spooky activity, centered around Esther, was investigated and written about by Walter Hubble. Her life was scary. Items went flying, fires were lit, and backs were stabbed. But was this real or an exaggeration? We may never know the truth. And we wrap it up with the NRNNAS known as The Paulding Light in Michigan!
24 May 2023 | Episode 121: "This whole thing seems sketch city.” | 00:57:08
Happy Spooky Wednesday, one and all! It may be summertime out in the real world, but here in Left of Skeptic Land it is spooky season all year long! First up this week, Kala tells us about The Death Ship of Platte River, also known as The Wyoming Death Ship. This omen of doom has been seen multiple times along the Platte River between Torrington and Alcova, and allegedly every one who has spotted it has had a loved one pass away the very same day. Is this really a ghost ship, or a method of clairvoyant dreaming? It leads to quite the debate. And Brittany talks about the historic Greystone Mansion and Garden in Beverly Hills, CA. This building had a rough, sketchy start when less than a year after it was built, two people died within its walls. Was it part of a giant government cover-up? Was it two lovers who couldn't handle keeping their feelings a secret any longer? Was it a jealous wife caught in a love triangle? We'll never know, and because we'll never know, it seems the ghosts will never rest. This now public park and famous location for movie and television filming is haunted with phantom gunshots, strange noises, and shadowy figures. And as a bonus, it's also a location for Gilmore Girls, so you really can't go wrong.
06 Apr 2022 | Episode 63: “You lost me at ‘pink puff stone’.” | 01:10:17
Happy Spooky Wednesday! We’ve got THREE locations for you! First, Kala talks about the S.K. Pierce haunted mansion in Gardner, MA. Then Brittany brings us to Ogden’s Union Station in Utah. Finally we finish up with a listener request location: Chase on the Lake in Walker, MN! THREE LOCATIONS?! Unheard of! Unless you’re listening to this episode. Then you’ll hear it. This episode is sponsored by Earth Rider Brewery in Superior, WI. For more information visit https://earthrider.beer

02 Jun 2021 | Episode 19: "I understand the scientific theories behind it, but... DEMON." | 00:59:28
This Spooky Wednesday Kala talks about the haunting figure known as the Grey Lady that resides in the Willard Library in Evansville, Indiana. And Brittany discusses The Phillip Experiment that took place in Toronto, Canada in the ’70s. These stories have given us our highest scores on the Skeptic Scale to date! This episode is all classic ghosts and demons, dear listeners! Well... ghosts and demons and science experiments. You're in for a treat!
16 Mar 2022 | Episode 60" "How she pulled that all together in one night, I do not know. But she did." | 01:05:22
This week marks the 60th Spooky Wednesday at Left of Skeptic, and we're visiting two new states to celebrate! First Kala takes us all the way up through Canada into Alaska to discuss the Alaskan Hotel in Juneau. This tiny, slightly dated hotel has a history of shy ghosts who don't seem to like it when people pay too much attention to them. If you're there on a daily basis for work or visiting, you're probably fine, but ghost hunters should beware. You might just end up hitting a few buildings on your way out... and no. We're not going to explain that any further, much to Brittany's frustration. After that, Brittany takes us to Hampton House in Towson, Maryland. This haunted location is technically a National Park and is haunted by a butler named Tom. Not Thomas. Tom. As well as a few others. Despite these documented hauntings, the National Park Service does not want to believe that these ghosts are real. But we know. YOU HEAR THAT, PARKS & REC? We know!
12 Oct 2022 | Episode 89: "Yummm... drawer blood." | 01:14:51
Happy Spooky Wednesday! We’re serving up some more of that hot Ringu Pasta Sauce with an episode made of Creepypasta for Urban Legends October. Brittany starts us off with stories of The Backrooms. This creepy dimension describes an endless maze of randomly generated office rooms characterized by the smell of moist carpet, walls with monochromatic tones of yellow, and buzzing fluorescent lights. As you ascend the floors, get ready for big bad spiders, endless caves, and worse smells… like a Dungeon Master on a power trip. Kala follows up with the tale of the Russian Sleep Experiment. This Creepypasta describes a post-WWII test where soldiers were left to stay awake for over 15 days with terrifying results. And this may spark one of the biggest debates in Left of Skeptic history! Was this real, or exaggeration? Because these two hosts can’t seem to agree.
27 Nov 2024 | Episode 199: "Go SPORTS!" | 00:53:54
Happy Spooky Wednesday, folks! We're going classic this week with a haunted university and hospital. Kala talks about the University of Portland in Oregon, which has several spooky locations on campus. If you head to the oldest building, you might run into the teenage ghost who drowned in the river. If performing arts are more your thing, you may run into the specter of a young girl who likes to hang out in the theater. If you go for a walk on the grounds, be prepared to hear the footsteps of an angry old man who did not like the Catholic Church. There's something around every corner here! Then Brittany tells us all about St. Alban's Sanatorium in Radford, Virginia. We all know the horrid story of all these old hospitals, but for this location that's where the horror ended, not where it began. The land was host to a terrible war and a preparatory school from hell. When a location includes THREE stories that could cause a haunting on their own, you know that the ghosts are really there.
17 Apr 2024 | Episode 167: "Dracula Furries" | 01:14:22
Happy Spooky Wednesday, folks! This week we have another special guest! Fearless leader of the Twin Ports Horror Society, member of more Duluth bands than we can count, and Co-Director of the Homegrown Music Festival: Cory Jezierski. In honor of his visit, we have selected two horror-themed stories this week. First, Kala talks about The Exorcism if Roland Doe, the inspiration behind the famous movie The Exorcist. And Brittany talks about the curse surrounding the iconic film Rosemary’s Baby. So many people who worked on this film seem to have met a sudden and sad end. And while Kala plays it off like she thinks it is a coincidence, Brittany isn’t so convinced, and she’s not so sure Kala doesn’t believe either. Sadly, there is no coverage of Dracula Furries (despite the title). Make sure to listen for the code word and message us on Facebook or Instagram for your chance to win a weeklong pass to the Duluth Homegrown Music Festival!
06 Mar 2024 | Episode 161: “The pirates pillaged and plundered for a plethora of periods” | 01:18:59
Happy Spooky Wednesday, folks! We’ve got a historic episode this week, literally. Full of history. First up Kala talks about Anne Boleyn and the many places she haunts. This woman has been vilified throughout history, but was she the villain or was she a victim? And has this caused her to stick around multiple locations long after death? And Brittany tells us about the Royal Hope Hospital in St. Augustine, FL. Playing an important part in many wars, this location has seen a lot of death, and it has the apparitions to prove it. What happens if you visit? Will you see an orb? Feel an icy hand? Or possibly be scratched with a message from the dead? All we know is, WE DON’T WANT IT.
29 Jun 2022 | Episode 75: “That’s my broken bone!” | 00:51:04
Happy Spooky Wednesday y'all! We've got three locations from two states we have not yet visited on the podcast! First up Kala takes us to Delaware to discuss two haunted inns. The Addy Sea Inn's beachfront property may be kid-free, but that doesn't mean you'll be undisturbed, especially if you stay in rooms 1, 6, or 11. And if you head further inland to Georgetown to visit The Brick Hotel on the Circle, you'll find a 185-year-old building where restoration activities in 2008 kicked up a lot of ghostly activity. And Brittany heads down to North Carolina to talk about The Mordecai House. This building is the oldest house in Raleigh still in its exact location. As a result, it’s had a long time to build up energy from the generations of the Mordecai family that lived within its walls. Brittany has a lot of evidence to share, including some EVPs that have Kala strongly convinced that the spirits in this house are real. This episode is sponsored by Great Lakes Aquarium in Duluth, MN. For more information visit GLaquarium.org.
19 May 2021 | Episode 17: "Ducks. Ducks? Ducks! DUCKS?!" | 00:56:04
This spooky Wednesday Kala takes us over to South Dakota to discuss the Ellsworth Airforce Base, which has seen enough unusual UFO activity to become known as the Area 51 of the Dakotas. Well, they could be UFOs, but they could also be ducks. And Brittany talks about a small town in Wisconsin that no longer exists if it ever existed at all. This episode is the first-ever episode edited by Kala! So, you know... do with that information what you will.
30 Jun 2021 | Episode 23: "Thanks for moving my murder house and leaving me with all these books!" | 00:58:31
We've got missing library books, brutal bludgeonings, mosh pit loving ghosts, and tasty beer for you this week! Kala tells everyone about The Harvey Public Library in Harvey, ND. A woman was murdered in her home and now haunts the library that sits on the land, puzzling unsuspecting librarians by making keys disappear and restocking books. Brittany takes us down south to Savannah, GA to tell us about Moon River Brewing Company, where each floor of the building brings new and unwelcome surprises in the form of ghosts who are not above shoving you out of the way and trapping women in the bathroom stalls. To top it all off, we end the hour with an all-too-real night terror story that will remind you to lock your doors at night! This episode is sponsored by Earth Rider Brewery! Find information about their brewery, beer, and events at earthrider.beer!
09 Oct 2024 | Episode 192: "Give me a Cryptid over a Phantom Menagerie any day" | 01:05:41
Happy Spooky Wednesday, ghouls and zombies! We are in our second week of Urban Legends October and this week we are featuring legends from Scotland! First up, Kala talks about the myths known as Selkies and Kelpies. They are both shapeshifting creatures known for haunting the waters, but have very different temperaments. While stories of the Selkies portray them as sweet creatures who encounter tragic circumstances, Kelpies are malevolent creatures who create tragic circumstances. And Brittany tells us the tale of A75 Kinmount Straight, also known as “The Ghost Road.” If you dare to travel this highway, beware that humans (and possibly chickens, wild cats, dogs, and phantoms?) may run out in front of your vehicle at any given moment. But you don’t have to worry about a crash because when you pull over, you will find they were never actually there (OooooOooo... spooky...). Many a lorry driver have shared their stories... and we're pretty sure this is a road we will never want to drive down. If not because of the ghosts, it’s because of ✨anxiety ✨.
11 Aug 2021 | Episode 29: "Hang a doll. Have a beer." | 01:16:25
It's Brittany's birthday week! And this Spooky Wednesday we are celebrating by heading outside of the U.S. again to tell you about locations in Mexico and Ireland. Kala talks about some haunted areas in and around Mexico City. The Island of the Dolls is exactly what it sounds like... and Island. Filled with creepy, old dolls. Posada Del Sol is an abandoned hotel with creepy altars in its basement and bones in its walls. And Mexico City's airport keeps ghosts in its planes. Brittany takes us over the ocean to talk about the extremely bloody history of Leap's Castle. It's basically a real-life episode of Game of Thrones with real haunting consequences. It's got oubliettes, muckles, and murder holes... what more could you need? This episode is sponsored by Earth Rider Brewery in Superior, WI. For more information visit https://earthrider.beer
27 Dec 2023 | Episode 151: "A great gift for a less than loved one!" | 01:04:19
Happy Spooky Wednesday, folks! For our last episode of the year we’ve got a cursed object and a haunted house. How classic! First up, Kala talks about The Anguished Man. This painting is located in the UK, and it’s more than just a creepy piece of art. Just ask it’s owner. If you find yourself with this painting in your home, you can expect to hear strange noises such as disembodied screaming, have doors and objects moving on their own, and even the see the strange shadowy figure of a man throughout the house. Luckily for you, the owner has no intention of selling, but that might not be so lucky for him. And Brittany talks about The Nicholson-Rand house in Indianapolis, IN. This gothic mansion is known to be haunted after being moved from its original location. For years, locals have claimed that a little girl’s spirit resides in the house after a tragic accident alongside other potential ghosts. And when you hear the history behind this building, you won’t be surprised that it’s otherworldly inhabitants have unfinished business. We finish up the episode with some spooky Reddit stories and a listener story! Make sure you check our social media for the images and video we talk about in this episode!
Happy New Years to you all! We can’t wait to spend another year with you, and be sure you join us next week for the beginning of True Crime January!

25 Dec 2024 | Episode 203: “Anti-Santa Shadow Daddy” | 01:08:50
Happy Spooky Holiday Wednesday, dear friends! We’ve got a Christmas spectacular for you this year! Kala talks about Mari Lwyd. This is essentially a creepy hobby horse used for drunken caroling. It’s every ex goth kid’s Christmas dream! Then Brittany tells the tale of Père Fouettard. This French Anti-Santa travels along with Old Saint Nick punishing naughty children. He basically looks like Santa, but kinda dirty and in black instead of red. An ex-goth kid’s Christmas dream. And we end the whole episode sharing some spooky Christmas Reddit stories that are sure to have you closing the blinds before you crawl into bed on Christmas night. We hope you all have a safe and happy holiday!
21 Aug 2024 | Episode 185: "Who the hell is Joe Cocker?" | 01:09:00
Happy Spooky Wednesday, dear listeners! We’ve got two Midwest stories this week all inspired my music… kinda. First Kala talks about a location in the hometown of one of her favorite bands Hawthorne Heights: Dayton, Ohio! The Woodland Cemetery and Arboretum is a massive, old cemetery filled with gorgeous trees, beautiful structures, amazing mausoleums, and ghosts! Will you see the little girl in the white sneakers? Or the little boy forever playing with his dog? Or the dancing Russian ballerina? There are many stories, and they’re all surprising consistent. And Brittany tells us all about the historic First Avenue in Minneapolis, Minnesota. This iconic music venue got its start as a bus depot, and it seems like some of the spirits may not realize the change. Staff have encountered apparitions, voices, and phantom touches. Next time you head out onto their dance floor, you might just be joined my more than the living.

The sentencing? The science experiments? The accessories made from murderer skin? Or the fact that this building became a string of different restaurants until finally, it became a TD Bank? Buckle in... this one is a whirlwind!

26 Oct 2022 | Episode 91: “Paranormability” | 00:56:59
Happy Spooky Wednesday! Happy Halloween! This week we recorded our episode live on Facebook and ended our October with a bang! First Kala started out with tales of babysitting gone wrong, sharing stories of ‘the call is coming from inside the house’ and ‘the clown statue in the corner.’ These tales have been told for years, but did you know there is a real-life unsolved murder as their source material? And Brittany tells us two urban legends! First is the tale of the Halloween Massacre. This unsolved mystery is so convincing that Kala thinks it’s real, despite the fact that Brittany continues to point out that there’s no real-life basis behind it. And Brittany finishes with the absolute classic of the murderer in the back seat. What’s the lesson of all these tales, besides them being popular urban legends? Women really need to watch their backs with strangers. Make sure you check in on the kids. And don’t trust any creepy mask or clown statue.
01 Jun 2023 | Episode 122: "I'm glad that you got defrocked." | 02:21:43
Happy Spooky Wednesday, dear listeners! We’ve got a special guest for you this week! Kara Babcock of Prophecy Girls joins us this week as we tackle Canadian extraterrestrials and Russian douchebags disguised as monks. First up, Kala talks about the history of UFO sightings in Canada. With some well-known and still unexplained encounters, Canadians have quite a history with unidentified flying objects, and groups have been working for years to get to the bottom of it. Some people suspect aliens, some people see a government conspiracy, and others just see drones in the sky. It leads to an interesting conversion on UFOs pre and post-COVID. And Brittany tells us all about the notorious Rasputin. Despite being the inspiration for the absolute banger of a song in the animated movie Anastasia, this guy was terrible. He was a smelly, dirty-bearded, questionable guy. Was he magic, or was he just lucky with some of his guesses? AND WHY WON’T HE DIE? We don’t quite know. Thank you so much to Kara Babcock for joining us this week! If you're looking for a great podcast, Check out Prophecy Girls: a Buffy Rewatch Podcast wherever you listen to your favorite podcasts.
