04 Feb 2022How to De-emphasize (Soften) English Sentences00:07:15

I'm sure that you know how to emphasize something in English, but have you learned how to de-emphasize a sentence? De-emphasizing is very common in English, and in this English lesson I'll teach you how to do it.

You'll hear sentences like, "It is a little bit cold." or "I can barely hear you." These are sentences where we want to lessen or soften the meaning and we do that in a very straightforward way.

I'm sure you'll learn a few new words and phrases in this free English class that you can use in your next conversation!

Have a great day!

12 Feb 2022How to Describe a SNOWY Day in English00:06:38

As you learn English you'll want to know how to describe different types of weather. In this English lesson I'll help you learn how to describe a snowy day in English. There are many types of weather, but we're having a snowstorm here right now, so I thought this would be a great time to help you learn how to talk about it. As you know, talking about the weather is a form of small talk in English, so you'll want to master it!

There are a few words and phrases for describing a snowy day. The snow can be light, it can be moderate, or heavy like when we have a blizzard. Today the snow is moderate - not light, but not heavy, but it will probably snow a lot harder later in the afternoon. There definitely are many things getting covered in snow though!

In this English lesson I'll be sure to teach words and phrases like accumulation, wind chill, blowing snow, drifting snow, and many more!

I think you'll enjoy this English weather lesson about describing a snowy day!

12 Feb 2022Free English Class! 🏃🧍🏾 Topic: Commands and Orders00:24:48

Sometimes you need to tell someone what to do. We do this in English by using a command or an order. A command or order is a verb in the imperative form. The cool thing about the imperative is that you don't need to memorize the subject or the conjugation - you just use the verb (without the "to" in front.)

In this English lesson you'll learn a variety of commands, orders, and requests using the imperative form. You'll learn phrases like Get lost!, Be quiet!, Relax!, Watch out!, and many more.

I hope you enjoyed this free English class about commands and orders! Have a great day!

18 Feb 2022How to Ask Fast and Natural Sounding Questions in English00:06:53

You've probably learned by now that spoken English is a bit different than written English. As you learn English, you learn how to write it properly, and how to speak it slowly. Native English speakers tend to compress their sentences though when they speak at a normal rate. Sometimes a whole sentence sounds like one long word!

In this English lesson I'll go over the common, proper structure for forming questions, and then I'll let you know how I would actually say these in a regular English conversation. I'll be sure to give you the format for questions starting with: Where, What, How, Why, and When. Even though these questions will be about a trip, they can be adapted for any situation.

So take the time to enjoy this free English class. Watch it a few times and try to shadow me (repeat after me) when I ask the questions and give the responses so that you can train yourself to sound a bit more natural when having an English conversation.

Have a great day!

05 Mar 2022A Little Bit of Encouragement for English Learners00:07:00

Every few months I like to make a video for English learners to teach them some new phrases, and at the same time I like to use those phrases to encourage them. This English lesson will do just that! It makes sense that as you do something difficult like learning English that you are encouraged by someone, and that you also learn how to encourage someone!

Anytime I can be a positive person in your life as you continue learning English or in your life in general, I hope it helps you to be kind to someone else in return. In this English lesson I will do two things. I will give you some encouragement and I will teach you some English sayings we use when we give others encouragement.

After all, a friendly voice, a kind word, a compliment, a word of encouragement, and a smile or a bit of laughter instead of a frown can be a great way to start your day.

So I hope you enjoy this English lesson about encouragement, and I certainly hope that you feel encouraged!

P.S. I hope you were able to learn a little bit of English along the way!

21 Jul 2022How To Use English Words Twice For Emphasis00:07:05

You may have noticed that in my English lessons I sometimes will say a word twice for emphasis. I might say, "This lesson is going to be really really fun!" or "This is a very very special English lesson!"

This might be a little bit confusing when you're learning English. How do you know when you're supposed to use two words in a row to emphasize something? Well in this English lesson I'll give you plenty of examples of how a native speaker would do this.

Not only do we use two words in a row to emphasize something, we also use two words with an "and" in the middle to describe how something is changing. I'll be sure to give plenty of examples of this as well in this English class.

I hope you enjoy the video very very much, and I hope continue to make really really good progress as you learn English!

11 Nov 2022An English Story at Three Speeds00:05:34

Welcome to this English listening practice lesson! In this lesson I'll be telling an English story at three different speeds.

The first time I will tell it slowly, speaking each word clearly, and not using any contractions or reductions. The second time I'll tell the story at a quicker pace, and use contractions. The third time I'll speak close to my normal speed and use contractions and reductions.

If you watch this English lesson until the end you'll also hear me attempt to read the story at a ludicrous speed, as well as an extra slow version.

I hope you enjoy this little English listening class! Have a great day!

Version 1 (Slow Speed):
Let me tell you about a young man named Paul.
He did not like going to the mall.
When his mom would say, “Time to go!”
He would say, “I am just going to stay home!”
And this would drive his mom up the wall.
Because she would leave in the car,
and she would not get far,
before Paul would text her and ask,
“Could you buy me some new pants
and a couple of new houseplants.
Oh, and I am kind of hungry, could you get me something to eat?”
She would then stop the car.
and text a reply.
Saying, “You should have told me that before I left.
I am going to come back home to get you.
I will be home in a couple of minutes.
Please be ready to go!”

Version 2 (Medium Speed):
Let me tell you about a young man named Paul.
He didn’t like going to the mall.

Saying, “You should’ve told me that before I left.

28 Jan 2023A Simple Clear Explanation of the Verb TO DO00:07:15

Welcome to this English lesson about the verb “to do”. The verb “to do” is a bit strange. It sometimes is useful in a sentence, but sometimes it’s hard to understand why it is used. In this English class I’ll help you learn how to conjugate the verb “to do” in the most common two tenses, and how and when to use it.

The verb “to do” in the present is often used to emphasize something, like, “I do like pizza.” instead of “I like pizza.” It’s also used to correct a misperception. If someone said, “I didn’t think you liked pizza!” You could respond and say, “No, I do like pizza!”

In this English lesson I’ll try to explain some of the most common uses of “to do” including: the present to emphasize, the past, the negative, and when forming questions.

I hope this English class about the verb “to do” is helpful, and that with some practice you can master its usage! Have a great day!
