14 Jan 2025 | The IT-GIRL trend of 2025? Embracing MESS. | Meet Siaja (played by Anna Lambe) on CBC's NORTH OF NORTH | 00:28:45
This episode is available to stream in 4K on YouTube Is the internet in its messy era? Take a look at the Billboard charts. DENIAL IS A RIVER by Doechii and MESSY by Lola Young are the biggest songs in the world, with lyrics about feeling like a walking contradiction and the plights of growing up in 2025. It’s hitting different. Even IT-girls like Kylie Jenner, Issa Rae, and Sophia Ritchie are stamping their approval on with lip-syncs, viral dances and open mics. Maybe we’re finally embracing the truth: behind every meticulously curated Instagram photo dump is a messy life. It’s raw, real, and worth celebrating. That’s why I fell in love with CBC’s new smash-hit comedy NORTH OF NORTH, starring Anna Lambe (The Grizzlies, True Detective: Night Country) who plays a girl who is every girl: “Siaja [is] a young Inuk woman who dreams of reinventing herself in her tiny Arctic community of Ice Cove, a town where everybody knows your business. After a spontaneous — and extremely public — exit from her marriage, Siaja finds herself navigating the unpredictable, and often hilarious, highs and lows that come with relationships, motherhood, a new job, and finding your way.” CBC A list of Siaja moments that made me go “yeah, that’s me” while watching the first two episodes: * Trying not to cry parking your car while someone hot is watching * Scream-singing Alanis Morisette in the car on the way to work * Driving by your ex’s place to try and get your stuff back after a messy breakup * Asking your friends if they think you’re a loser (spoiler: they don’t think that, they love you) This list barely scratches the surface of relatable moments NORTH OF NORTH serves up, but they’re the moments I can give you without spoiling that moment in episode one*. Enjoy this conversation with Anna Lambe. I’ll see you next time on LATE NIGHT SCROLLING ProducerLiz *The shock from THAT MOMENT rewired my brain to only be able to think about that moment for WEEKS after attending the premiere. After you watch, PLEASE come back to the comments and let me know if it shook you to your core, too. Get full access to Late Night Scrolling at latenightscrolling.substack.com/subscribe

08 Mar 2025 | Bringing Toronto's transit, music, and cursed McDonalds to SXSW | Interview with BOXCUTTER Director Reza Dahya | 00:20:25
If The Weeknd and Drake can make it from Toronto, why can’t Rome? BOXCUTTER reframes what Canadian greatness looks like for the next generation, filling a gap in Canadian film and setting the bar for Toronto storytelling. Through one day in the life of aspiring musician Rome, we see the true character of the city, the community that shapes it, and the threats of gentrification on the next generation of artists. Director Reza Dahya chats about translating Toronto’s textures for the big screen, letting community believe in you, and why deep cut references like the infamous Queen and Spadina McDonalds matter. 25 Mar 2025 | Is STUTTERING the best Canadian Pop song ever? | 00:28:27
In 2025, this song is coming back with a vengeance as an example of the thread that connects Canadian pop culture together. I’m of course, talking about Stuttering by Fefe Dobson. Is this the best pop song in Canadian history? I certainly think there’s an argument to be made for it. So in this week’s episode, let’s dive into why Stuttering might be the best representation of Canadian pop culture — our relationships with apologies, each other, and our elbows-up energy to the world.
