Happy New Year everyone. I’m excited for the year ahead and I can’t wait to share more inspiring stories with you all. For many of us January can symbolize a fresh start or a new beginning. 27 Sep 2023Mathieu Dore on finding balance in life between family, sports and career, moving across the world, running goals, maintaining fitness with less running hours, training shift when becoming a parent, starting over in a new community, integrating through running, trails, adventure and marathoning , starting a run club, lifting to support the run01:31:15

One of my goals for this show is to speak to guests in every country where people listen. So far we’ve reached 20 different countries but have only spoken to guests in 5 of them, so we got a bit of work to do.

This conversation of Just In Stride takes us down under, with Ultra Runner, strength coach and community leader, Mat Dore.

Mat grew up playing every sport he could and had a built-in training partner in his twin brother, which harnessed a strong competitive spirit within himself. He found running as a great way to stay in shape after his hockey career and naturally wanted to be the best he could be, taking on World Majors and Ultras.

A born Canadian, he moved across the World to Australia where he found his place as a Strength coach and integrated himself through sport. We discussed what it’s like to live somewhere new, how training changes after you have kids and how you can still get great results with less time in your schedule. Mat certainly is proof of that, recently taking 10 minutes off his already impressive marathon time!

29 May 2024Jen Segger on her adventure race around Croatia, 20 years of experience, Exploration, Discovery, Family, Coaching, Multiday races and the risk/rewards that go with it.01:11:13

In endurance sports success doesn’t come quickly. It’s preparation over many days, weeks, months and years that usually yield the most success. It’s consistency over time that allows the body to move, adapt and recover that will provide us with longevity in the sport. Endurance sports is a lifestyle for many, so being able to do it through all stages of life often becomes the big picture goal.

On this episode of Just In Stride we dive into the unknown with endurance athlete, adventure racer and ultra coach, Jen Segger.

20 years ago Jen set out to be the best adventure racer she could, as she trained while exploring the beautiful province of British Columbia.

Over that time she’s completed numerous ultra trail events, multi-day expeditions and team adventure races too, almost always finishing on the podium or close to it. Today, she still competes with more passion than ever, as she continues to challenge herself and her athletes, as they reach for new heights.

Her non-profit brings together the future leaders of New Orleans at sleep-away camp in Mississippi, and then invests into their success with wilderness trips, leadership training, personal mentorship, and employment opportunities all year long.01:06:13

Ever wonder what it would be like to run a relay through the desert from LA to Las Vegas? How about doing it solo? Sounds crazy I know but it exists at an annual event called the speed project, a race that has intrigued me for many years and one I would love to be a part of some day.

On today’s episode of Just In Stride I’ll speak with the most recent 1st place finisher of The Speed Project, self coached ultra runner, Lucy Scholz.

She’s no stranger to ultra running or challenging terrain, having completed 6 hundred milers, many 50 milers and crewed in ultras for others too. Planning, determination, problem solving, execution and community make up her recipe for success, and she’s happy to share her knowledge with others, so you're in for a treat.

31 Jan 2024Ben Pobjoy discovering planet earth on foot, 242 Marathons in 1 year, Self financed mission, 70 countries traveled, documenting the journey, weight lose, healthy lifestyle01:33:49

Have you ever wanted to stop everything in your life to do something that you’re truly passionate about? What if money wasn’t an issue and you had an abundance of time on your hands? What would you accomplish or set out to do? Maybe life looks different through that lens than it does at this very moment. Sometimes it’s good to reflect on what we really want out of life and create a vision for how we plan on getting there.

On this episode of Just In Stride we travel the world on foot with marathoner, explorer and documentarian, Ben Pobjoy.

Ben’s story is one of health, adventure and discovery. Once morbidly obese, he used movement and healthier eating habits to shed the weight and ultimately change his life.

He won’t wow you with his race splits, however, last year alone he completed more marathons than you’ll likely do in your entire life. That’s right, Ben quit his steady job, gathered whatever funds he had and traveled to 70 countries, while completing 242 marathons in the process. He was on a self supported mission to see the world, experience new cultures all on his own two feet and he’s here to share the journey with us all.

27 Jun 2024Fuel for Thought Series: Fueling For Maximum Performance with Nick Kleban00:40:17

You may be asking yourself why this episode is titled “Fuel for Thought”. Any guesses?

I mean if you know me, you know I love a good old play on words, hence the name of this new series that I’ve produced with Xact Nutrition.

Athletes train for hours, work with coaches on technique, join workout groups and sign up for big challenges but one of the things we feel could be overlooked by athletes that is so critical, is education regarding nutrition and how it helps you perform.

So we’ve put together a multi episode series to discuss specific topics pertaining to just that,

in hopes that you come away with more in depth knowledge and a better understanding of nutrition.

On this episode of Just In Stride, Fuel for Thought Edition, we digest high fuel consumption for better performance with Elite Cyclist, Nick Kleban.

Nick is notoriously known for how many carbs he can consume per hour, leaving little doubt that he has enough fuel to support his max effort.

We go in depth into hourly carb intake, different ways to consume fuel, time between feeding, signs you might be low on energy, how to recover from bonking and so much more. I have a gut feeling this will be the perfect crash course to high fueling and that it will leave you more energized than before.

Some topics we cover:
-Min and Max fueling consumption
-Fueling schedule
-Different ways to consume fuel
-Ideal to mix and match different types of fuel
-Troubleshooting due to lack of fuel?
-Signs your are low on fuel
-How to reset when our body is rejecting fuel?
-Lessons learnt from poor fueling?
-Fuel consumption 101

15 Feb 2024Sarah Wells on her Olympic path, going from a non-athletic person to an Olympian, self belief, life after sport, pursuing excellence, keynote speaking professional sports, overcoming injuries01:04:19

Part of what makes this show a success is your involvement, dedication and recommendations. When you like something about the show you let me know but when you have suggestions you let me know too and for that I’m grateful. It helps me learn, develop and grow as a creator that I hope will translate into an even better listening experience.

On this episode of Just In Stride I had an uplifting conversation with Olympic hurdler, Silver Medalist and Keynote Speaker, Sarah Wells.

She wasn’t a natural athlete in high school by any means but her track coach saw potential in her that she didn’t see in herself and was he ever right.

Sarah harnessed that talent and became one of the best 400m hurdlers in Canada, ultimately landing her on the 2012 Olympic team in London. That achievement certainly didn’t come without its challenges and adversity along the way. She shares the power of belief in oneself and how to pursue excellence in our own race, in what was an incredibly inspiring conversation.

07 Jun 2023Natasha Wodak on her win at the 10K Championships in Ottawa, moving up to the marathon, coach selection, Upcoming Marathon World Championships Budapest 2023 and doing what works for you.01:12:35

So much of enjoying endurance sports is learning from others. We learn from people's triumphs and their failures. It is what makes each athlete's journeys unique and special.

Today on Just In Stride we’ll learn from one of the best Canadian distance runners to ever do it. National marathon record holder and Olympian, Natasha Wodak.

She’s coming off her third 10K Championship win in Ottawa just a few weeks ago. From World Championships to the Olympics, Natasha continues to perform at the highest level and represent her country with pride. But what we all can appreciate is her openness and honesty about her personal experience in the sport and the importance of trusting your own path, even though it may be different from others.

16 Aug 2023Natascha Leisi on her free diving experience, competing Internationally, Master scuba dive trainer and her intro into running00:54:01

My comfort zone as an interviewer has been speaking to guests who share my passion, which is running. The goal for this show however is to speak with all athletes in endurance sports and try to see if there’s some common ground between them.

On today’s episode of Just In Stride I got in the water with former swimmer, master scuba dive trainer and now competitive indoor freediver, Natascha Leisi.

Whether it was swimming in the lake near her childhood home or jumping in the pool, she’s always gravitated towards the water.

That passion evolved and has taken her far beneath the surface into the depths of the Sea. Now freediving has given her the fire to compete for her country at the national level, while continuing to learn and grow in her sport. 08 Nov 2023Peter Bromka on his lifelong running journey, his pursuit of the Olympic Trials, writing about his passion, Relay podcast, training partners, coaching, finding meaningful goals and challenging himself.01:48:52

I’m actually recording this on my 39th birthday. As tradition would have it, I woke up bright and early to complete 39 kilometers to celebrate 39 years of life. With that comes some reflection about running itself and why I do it in the first place. Sure the tests we face on race day are great but it’s the daily act of lacing them up that’s what I enjoy the most.

Endurance sports have given me structure, strength, good health, discovery, adventure, pleasure and of course the sense of community.
The goals we set will change over time but movement is something that can remain constant.

On today's episode of Just In Stride I touched on all aspects of running with Elite Marathoner and Writer, Peter Bromka.

Peter’s love for running is clear and it’s been part of him for his entire life.
It was a pleasure hearing about his journey.
From his pursuit of the Olympic Trials, coaching, training and using creative outlets to share his passion with others.

Certainly, he’s had an influence on people through his accolades but it’s his words that resonate and impact fellow runners all over the world.

16 Aug 2024Rob Watson on his love of running and pursuit of the Olympic dream, life after running, finding other ways to test himself physically, love of cycling and triathlon, coaching other on how to achieve their goals01:22:43

I always find it fascinating how our passion can take on many forms and mean different things to us throughout our lives. I also believe you need to do things you want to do while you’re healthy and while you can because the opportunity to do so may not always be there. So get out there and do what you love for as long as you can.

On this episode of Just In Stride I shared a great conversation with former pro marathon and now coach, Rob Watson.

Simply put, Rob was a pure talent and wanted to run fast. He ran in school and after, in pursuit of his Olympic dream.

He never actually made an Olympic team but it certainly wasn’t for a lack of trying. He ran huge mileage and went all in on his training, traveling to compete in order to make strides in his sport. He’s won 4 national titles and qualified for a bunch of international competitions, including 2 world championships. Today he enjoys sharing his expertise and knowledge with others through coaching, in order to help athletes achieve their own goals.

31 Jul 2024Fuel for Thought Series: Gut Training and Race Day Execution with Nick Kleban00:42:21

Fueling is as important as the physical training itself no matter what endurance sport you choose. You can train as well as you want but if you want to optimize your performance on race day, you have to go with your gut.

21 Jun 2023Rodrigo Gomez Ruiz on his pursuit of the marathon, how he finds himself through running, connecting through the community and the power of family01:19:28

The thing I love most about sport, other than the actual sport itself, is the opportunity to connect with like minded people who share the same passion. Connecting at races, practices or even community events, where acquaintances can become life long friendships.

On today’s episode of Just In Stride I touched base with marathoner, Rodrigo Gomez Ruiz.

Rodrigo found track and field at a young age but only started running later on. For him it was a way to cope with loss in his life. Then, through his local community, he found the confidence to train for and tackle big goals, such as the Boston Marathon. But what is most apparent, is his passion for the sport, how profoundly it has impacted his personal growth and his openness to learning something new with each stride he takes.

When we think about our future it’s good to set long term and specific goals. It’s funny how putting an idea into the universe can sometimes bring it to fruition years later. 29 Feb 2024Emily Hawgood on her love for trail running, becoming an endurance athlete, Ironman, athlete coach relationship, finding consistency01:05:32

One of the things I truly believe in is if you’re passionate about something and you truly love doing it, then you’ll 100% be successful at it. It’s how people make a living doing what they love but nobody said it was easy, you need to put in the work and stay consistent. It takes trying, learning, succeeding and failing to truly make it work, making it all the more rewarding when it goes right. Set a goal but more importantly, draw out a plan to get where you want to go because the only person that can get you there is you.

On this episode of Just In Stride I had a really fun chat with pro ultra trail runner, Emily Hawgood.

Emily grew up on a farm in Zimbabwe and played all sorts of different sports as a kid. She later took a liking to long distance triathlon but with some encouragement from her now coach, turned to running on the trails and she never looked back.

Ultra running became her passion and she now does it professionally. Her results over the years have been impressive and so consistent from race to race, no matter the distance. It’s so clear she loves to run and that passion shines through every time she toes the line. I wouldn’t be surprised to see her finish on the podium at Western States later this year.

13 Sep 2023Sachin Latti on running 22 marathons in 22 days and why, being a high lever athlete, working through personal struggles, mental health and ptsd, finding running after years of Jiu Jitsu, wrestling and bodybuilding, Run to Remember: Honor House Society01:23:45

Every so often someone special comes across my social media feed and is doing something incredible. I guess that’s the blessing, that we can connect with strangers through one common passion and in this case it’s running.

On this episode of Just In Stride I spoke with ultra runner and mental health advocate Sachin Latti.

He didn't start out as a runner but has been a high level athlete his whole life, competing in wrestling, bodybuilding and jiu jitsu. It was during Covid that Sachin found his stride, using running as a way to stay active and work through troubling times, as many of us can relate.

Through this new way of movement he fell in love with the sport, taking on longer and more challenging distances. Having a career in law enforcement opened his eyes to the troubles active and retired members of service face each day, and wanted to do something about it. So he’s running to raise money and awareness for his community, most recently taking on 22 marathons in 22 days in support of veterans and first responders mental health.

16 May 2024Melanie Henderson about her intro to triathlon and finishing on podium, being a top age grouper, long distance triathlon, Ironman World Championships, Kona, Airline Pilot athlete balance, living away from home 01:19:44

As we move through life, we go through many different phases and priorities certainly change. Over time we grow and our appreciation for what’s important in life takes on different forms. That goes for family, friendships, careers and certainly our athletic goals too.

On this episode of Just In Stride we get to know Elite distance triathlete and top age grouper, Melanie Henderson.

Melanie started out as a track and field kid in her youth, always having fun with a healthy dose of competitiveness. She then moved from South Africa to the U.S in order to pursue a career as a pilot and that’s where a triathlete was born.

She proved to be a natural in her very first Ironman 70.3, placing 3rd in her age group and earning a stop at the World Championships. From that moment on, she was hooked.

We unpack her early success in the sport, the lessons she’s learnt along the way, the sense of community she feels and the pilot athlete balance she’s trying to find, so she’ll be able to fly in all aspects of her life.

28 Mar 2024Remi Leroux on sub-ultra mountain running, his love of tennis, progression in the sport, racing shorter but faster, training methods, running lifestyle, opportunity to travel, the pursuit of excellence, finding our limits01:22:12

When I first started running 14 years ago and signed up for races, I fell into the trap of wanting to jump into the next distance too quickly. A 10K turned into a half marathon which then led me to a marathon shortly after. I didn’t know much about the sport back then but if I had to go back I would stick with one distance for a while longer until I was comfortable to move up. Recently I’ve been racing some shorter stuff and I have to say I’m loving it. Preparing with less mileage, running fast, racing strategically and recovering quicker too. So if your goal is a marathon or ultra this year, find a fast 5 or 10K to get you out of your comfort zone, you might surprise yourself.

On this episode of Just In Stride I hit the trails with Elite sub-ultra marathoner, Remi Leroux.

In his youth he loved playing tennis and excelled at it. Despite his success he decided to give it up due to the lack of resources he felt he needed to remain competitive.

In fact, that’s what drew him to running so much. The idea that he could run anytime, anywhere, without training partners and really be in control of his results, made distance running very attractive. Remi progressed quite rapidly, signing up for a 5K and quickly jumped up to longer distances, leading him to the Ultra trails.

After years of ultra marathons, he realized he’d much rather race fast and challenge himself on the shorter mountain tracks. That transition has led him to some impressive results, racing 30 times in the last 2 seasons and finishing on 9 podiums in 2023 alone. Proof that running the distances you’re passionate and training for specific goals could be the key to your own success.

23 Jan 2024Rory Linkletter on his running journey, trying to make an Olympic team, qualifying standards, Houston Half recap, coaching change and selection, being a full time runner/father/husband01:25:28

To set a goal and pour your life into it is something I’ve always admired about endurance athletes. For many professional runners, the Olympics is the ultimate achievement. The chance to be amongst the best in the world, compete in a world class event and to put on your country’s colors is an opportunity of a lifetime.

On today’s episode of Just In Stride we get a pro’s perspective with elite marathoner Rory Linkletter.

Rory found running through school and really never looked back. As he progressed, he realized there were opportunities for him in the sport and had the drive to succeed.

Today, he’s one of the fastest Canadian distance runners there is. Training full time in Flagstaff with Coach Ryan Hall by his side, he’s had an impressive stretch of races. All leading up to the Seville marathon in February, where he hopes to put together his best performance yet and crack the Canadian Olympic team.

24 May 2023Ray Zahab, the great Canadian Explorer, on building back fitness after completing a series of chemo treatments. Taking control of his health, supporting his family, building Impossible2Possible, while continuing to tackle big projects year after year.01:14:00

What does it mean to get outside of your comfort zone? It could be starting a new job, trying a new sport, meeting new people or maybe it’s going on an adventure filled with unknowns. Whatever it is, if we decide to go there, we will come away with some valuable lessons and likely learn something about ourselves.

Today on Just In Stride we’ll enter the mind of a great Canadian explorer, adventurer and ultra runner, Ray Zahab.

You might know Ray from his book and documentary Running The Sahara but his list of accomplishments goes far beyond that. He’s conquered deserts in blistering heat and the arctic in sub zero temperatures, conditions many of us will never get a chance to experience. But through his foundation Impossible2Possible, he’s able to share his love for expeditions and adventure with a youth ambassador team, teaching them resilience, perseverance and dedication.

25 Oct 2023Rob Perez on his love for running and why he does ultras, run content creation, The Speed Project Solo, TSP International in Chile, helping others navigate the running new running world, sharing tips and tricks on all aspects of the run01:14:25

I often say that social media is a two edged sword. On one hand, it can consume our time and we can easily compare ourselves to others, putting us in a negative mental space. On the other, we can document our journey and share it with anyone out there willing to listen, potentially impacting someone in a more positive way. I much prefer the latter if I do say so myself.

On today’s episode of Just In Stride I had the chance to connect with Ultrarunner and content creator, Rob Perez.

Rob got into running as a way to prepare for the intense training he experienced during his time with the U.S Navy. He built his base running 5 miles daily, quickly jumping into ultra running events covering 50 kilometers and beyond.

After years of consistency, Rob took on the challenge and completed The Speed Project Solo earlier this year and plans on completing the international edition, by crossing the Atacama desert this November. Above all else, Rob loves creating useful running content on his social platforms, covering registration hacks, training tips, fueling advice and so much more. All in an attempt to help fellow runners as he hopes to make running more available and accessible to all.

19 Apr 2024Faye Alice on her pursuit of ultra distances, the race across Scotland, multi day events, Exploring nature, build a life in Canada, time management, proper fueling for ultras and building self confidence01:19:20

My thoughts for today are around the idea that we should never take our good health for granted and I’ll tell you why. I recently had an accident that took me out of running or any sport for that matter for about a week and a half. It happened right outside my house on my bike going super slow, barely pedaling. There was a curb that my front tire cleared but my back tire did not and next thing I knew I was laying head first on the ground with blood dripping from my forehead. Stitches were required and I somehow had major bruising in my lower abdominal. It wasn’t fun and I couldn’t run. I was mad at myself for letting it happen, for not being more careful but of course it could always be much worse. I’ve slowly come back to running and so grateful to feel good doing it again. So be safe out there and cherish whatever form of movement you’re able to do today, wherever you’re at in the process.

On today’s episode of Just In Stride I sat down with Ultrarunner and adventurer, Faye Alice.

Faye grew up being active and ran for her school. Dance however was what she wanted to pursue as a career until she realized she may have reached her potential and decided to move on.

Where dancing stopped, her running continued, finding joy on the roads and later on the trails. Over the years her passion has grown but also the distances as she takes on multi day races of 200 miles and beyond. Of course, with the Canadian Rockies as her training ground there’s endless opportunities to explore for hours on her own two feet.

09 Aug 2024Arianne Raby on going from elite marathoner to triathlete, running fast, shifts and priorities through life, becoming a mom, finding balance between parenting, athlete and career, rejuvenating her love for endurance sports 01:27:14

It’s funny how life changes and with that so do our priorities. What was important to you 5 or 10 years ago may have little to no significance to you today. In a lot of ways, that’s what can make life exciting. Trying new things, exploring new spaces and learning new skills can be so rewarding.

On this episode of Just In Stride I moved through the journey of elite distance runner and now triathlete, Arianne Raby.

Arianne was born to run. She ran in soccer, then in school and even earned a scholarship to continue running.

We spoke about the success she had once she finished school, battling through a knee injury and even how she balances training being a new mom. But what was even more interesting was how triathlon has brought out the excitement for endurance sports in Arianne again, something she had lost after a lifetime of running.

19 Jul 2023Grayson Murphy on her road to becoming Mountain Running World Champ, Airplane arms, Training, Fueling, Goal setting and Running logs01:01:18

Movement can come in many forms. The variety is what keeps things interesting and fun, even if it’s all within the same sport. I think that’s what I loved so much about my triathlon days, the excitement of training in different disciplines for one event always kept me guessing.

On today's episode of Just In Stride I broke things down with an elite runner and mountain running world champion, Grayson Murphy.

She got into soccer growing up but switched over to competitive running because it was a way to make new friends while still having that team aspect.

Today, Grayson competes at an elite level on the road, on the track and on the mountains too. She holds U.S National Titles, World Titles and looks to add the Olympics to a growing list of BIG goals. But always tries to keep it fun, as you might guess by her catchphrase “Airplane arms or you’re doing it wrong”.

02 Aug 2023Charles Ouimet on becoming an elite cyclist, content creation around sports, photography, school of YouTube, gear breakdown and race strategy01:14:25

I’ve heard people say “do what you love” time and time and time again. But how many times is that actually the case? Where we do what we love, follow our passion and can actually make a living doing it.

Today on Just In Stride I caught up with elite cyclist, pro photographer and YouTuber, Charles Ouimet.

His first love was actually skateboarding but also enjoyed taking photos for skate brands, which gave him access to the latest and greatest gear.

Over time his willingness to try new things has allowed him to grow both professionally and as an athlete. Today it’s high speed road cycling that has his full attention. While he creates video YouTube content covering all aspects of the sport to help others learn the same way he did years ago.

04 Jul 2024Yoshi Groen on everything that is Euro Trip, Growing up in a running family, Run Community, Running Junkies, race organizing for the community01:07:54

Last month I finally got to take part in an endurance event that had been on my bucket list for years. A relay race across Europe, from Strasbourg to Innsbruck, covering 420km as a relay team of six. The event was called Eurotrip and it certainly did not disappoint. Of course the highlights you see would be the smiles, beautiful scenery and happiness along the way but let me tell you, it was much harder than it looked. Facing the elements, extreme fatigue, logistics and challenging terrain for such a distance can be demoralizing at times however it‘s the resilience of a group of individuals that makes it all come together, creating lasting memories for a lifetime.

On this episode of Just In Stride we unpack what was The Eurotrip with the event creator himself, Yoshi Groen.

He’s a great runner in his own right but he just loves putting on these exciting ultra events for the run community and it attracts runners from across the globe.

We spoke about how the idea for the Eurotrip came about, the challenges his team faces behind the scenes and the motivations around why he dedicates his time to putting it all together. In the process we get to know Yoshi on a more personal level and I’m excited to share his running journey with you all.

08 Dec 2023CJ Albertson on Winning the CIM Marathon, Work/Life/Run Balance, Building up to the Orlando 2024 Trials, Training Methods, Being a husband, father and pro runner01:08:24

Winning isn’t everything but it’s certainly nice when it happens. For pro runners especially it can make a huge difference in sponsorship contracts, annual income and quality of life too.

On today’s episode of Just In Stride we get into a winning mindset with Elite Marathoner, CJ Albertson.

Talking to CJ one thing was clear, he loves to run but also loves to win. Most recently he did just that at the California International Marathon in a staked field.

His competitive nature is something he’s had from a young age and he understands that to be the best you need to beat the best. Something he hopes to do at the upcoming Olympics Trials in Orlando next February.

05 Jul 2023Tommie Runz on his running and wellness pursuit after sobriety, podcasting and content creation, going vegan and helping others within the community01:22:14

The process of starting this new podcast has been an exciting one and we’re already 5 episodes in. Your feedback and encouragement has been overwhelming and I’d like to thank you for listening! Let’s keep things going!

I always find it interesting when people face challenges in their life and find running. Beyond the finish lines and shiny metals, it’s a sport that brings positivity and good health to people's lives more often than not.

On today’s episode of Just In Stride I shared ideas with fellow Podcaster and Marathoner, Tommie Runz.

He’s had quite the road to health, wellness and the world of endurance sports. Growing up he was a multi sport kid, only truly finding running after choosing a life of sobriety in 2017 and he hasn’t looked back. Now he’s into all things running from podcasting, to content creation and training. Tommie looks to improve in all distances up  to the marathon, while helping others by sharing his own personal journey.

20 Jun 2024Moritz Keinath on his pursuit of the marathon, making big strides, building a community, running to move through rehab, achieving 6 stars, analysis to improve01:20:43

When I first got into the endurance world I was mainly focused on the training aspect but as I’ve learned and grown over the years, I’ve discovered that there is way more to it than that. Nutrition, rest, strength and sleep all play a major role in how we improve as athletes. If you're interested in taking the next step, ask yourself which of these other aspects do you know little to nothing about and take some time to learn more, you might be surprised how much of an impact it can have on how you perform.

On this episode of Just In Stride I broke down the success of Elite Swiss Marathoner and coach, Moritz Keinath.

Moritz played hockey and football growing up but actually didn’t enjoy running at all. It was only after a knee injury that he decided to give running another shot so he could get movement back in his life.

Today running has become much more for Moritz. It was a way to connect with his parents who were also passionate about the sport, a way for him to push his own limits and it also brought him closer to his local running community. He’s made huge strides in the marathon, now running at a semi professional level and hopes to better his time at the Berlin marathon later this year.

13 Jun 2024Fuel for Thought Series: Debunking Nutrition Myths with Alister Gardner00:37:08

So we’ve put together a multi episode series to discuss specific topics pertaining to just that, in hopes that you come away with more in depth knowledge and a better understanding of nutrition.

On this episode of Just In Stride, Fuel for Thought edition, we’ll debunk various nutrition myths, with Elite road and trail runner, Alister Gardner.

When it comes to nutrition and best practices, everyone has an opinion. Whether it’s using salt tabs, choosing between real food vs gels or bars, identifying an ideal race weight, fasting during workouts or using supplements, we’ll provide detailed explanations and discuss the importance of each one.

So no matter if you’re an elite or just starting out, you’ll certainly gain something from this conversation and that’s no myth.

Here are some of the key questions we cover:

-Does taking salt tablets prevent/stop cramping?

-Is supplementing with maltodextrin beneficial for endurance athletes?

-Is it better to fast or fuel before training?

-Does carb loading enhance race day performance?

-The lighter you are, the faster you’ll race.

-Real food is better than gels/bars

21 May 2023Community Spotlight by Xact Nutrition: Ottawa Race Weekend and all you need to know going into the 3 day event.00:25:24

When I first started running, I knew very little. No community, no run clubs, no social media. All I knew was that I loved it and every year I made sure to sign up and race the Ottawa Half Marathon without fail.

Today on Just In Stride Community Spotlight Edition, I’ll discuss all things Ottawa Race Weekend with executive director and race director of Run Ottawa, Ian Fraser.

We break down the new course layout, the competitive elite field, all the exciting expo activations, shake-out runs with the local community and of course, the after party. But most importantly we’ll fill you in on where you can find Xact Nutrition before the race, on the course and after the race at their recovery lounge. So if you’re in Ottawa, make sure to check out all they have to offer. It’s shaping up to be an amazing weekend, see you there!

22 Nov 2023Rachel Hannah on being a pro marathoner, running for a lifetime, being a sport dietician, facing injury, training methods and fueling strategies01:13:14

When we think about training for endurance sports, we often consider having a training plan, perhaps a coach, the proper equipment but nutrition and fueling somehow gets lost in the shuffle. In shorter distances we can get away with being negligent but nutrition becomes increasingly important the further we go.

On today’s episode for Just In Stride, we dove into the importance of nutrition with Elite Marathoner and sport dietician, Rachel Hannah. Rachel Hannah (@rachelhannahrd) | Instagram profile

Rachel is no stranger to running, in fact she’s been doing it since the age of 7. She ran throughout her academic years, receiving a university scholarship and later took up the sport professionally.

To complement her career as a pro athlete, she’s also a registered dietitian, which has not only enabled her to help others but has given her the knowledge to uncover some of her own deficiencies. Now healthier than ever, Rachel hopes to build on what’s been a successful season.

13 Mar 2024Jazmine Lowther on her rise in Ultra Trail Running, overcoming injury, confidence, running form, life choices and understanding what motivates us.01:35:05

I love thinking about the idea that just because your life has been a certain way until this point, doesn’t mean you can’t change your own trajectory. Who you were 10, 5 or even last year is not the same person you are today. We live, we learn and we grow. Take the time to acknowledge the challenges and accomplishments in your life, and celebrate how far you’ve gotten.

On this episode of Just In Stride I had a pleasant chat with Elite Ultra Trail Runner and Nutrition Coach, Jazmine Lowther.

She had an active and competitive childhood but fell out of sports and into other interests that put her future in danger. Fortunately for her, she realized her own potential before it was too late.

Today her focus is much different, becoming a pro ultra trail runner and going all in. Her breakout year was in 2022, winning the 100K as the underdog at Canyons, earning a Golden Ticket to Western States and finishing 4th in the CCC at UTMB in Chamonix. Unfortunately after that, injuries got in her way of realizing some of those dreams but she’s shown resilience, battled back and is ready to compete this upcoming season.

28 Sep 2024Nick Kleban on becoming a pro cyclist, going from gravel to road racing, the joy of competition, proper fueling, racing strategies, finding enjoyment in running, different types of gear and accessibility to the sport01:10:18

Today's guest has already been on the show to help us with a nutrition series we did earlier this year, however I thought it would be nice to have him back on to share his story.

On this episode of Just In Stride, I had a great conversation with Elite Cyclist, Nick Kleban.

He’s been cycling almost since he could walk, early on in the mountain trails and later on the open roads. It wasn’t always smooth sailing but ultimately he’s found himself back in the saddle and loves to compete with his team year after year.

Nick loves to geek out on gear, nutrition and race day strategy which always makes for a very interesting chat. He shares his knowledge, wisdom and enthusiasm for his sport with us, so sit back and enjoy the ride.
