07 Mar 2024 | 452: Pitching, Perseverance & Personal Growth with Precious Williams | 00:41:25
Precious Williams, known as the Killer Pitch Master, shares a glimpse into her life-altering journey from personal despair to clawing her way back up. Precious shares her perspective on resilience and redemption and the vital role of pitching not just in business, but life. She shares the six types of pitches and their role in building success. Precious also shares insights on personal branding, the value of diversity, and the power of authenticity. Episode Highlights: 07:17 - It also showed me that there were people who looked nothing like me and did not care what their backstory was. They only cared about how you present yourself, what that does for their audience, and how we can take that into bigger and bigger places. So that was a lesson that was dialed into me, and I leaned into it, and because of that, I was never afraid to walk into any room again to present myself as a killer pitch master. 08:22 - It is so important for founders to know how to pitch because. If you don't have a way of briefly introducing yourself, your books, your business, your brand, your product, or your service in a way that captivates, titillates, excites, and delights, you're going to have a hard time. You're going to have a hard time posting on social media. A lot of us started by ourselves. So if you cannot get people interested in taking a look at your products or services to want to book you, hire you, or refer you, if you don't show why you're the only choice that matters in an oversaturated place. 36:01 - One of the greatest things I want you to take from me is to be the celebrity of your own brand. It's great to take pictures with all these people and that's wonderful. That doesn't impute anything to you. It doesn't, I promise. I know it looks good. You get a lot of likes on social media. But you want people to come to you. 23 Jun 2023 | Ep 320: Data Collection Made Easy with Bulut Akisik | 00:18:14
Elzie Flenard interviews Bulut Akisik, the VP of Enterprise Growth at Jotform, whose role involves growth marketing and finding new people who can benefit from the company's software as a service platform. Bulut talks about the importance of balancing family and workplace success, being honest with customers, and establishing a relationship with them. They discuss growth hacking strategies, which involves testing, data engineering, and making decisions based on realistic data. B2B founders, investors, and entrepreneurs can leverage growth marketing to get ahead of their competition. They also highlight streamlining data collection. Jotform's platform is based on the idea of using data for a specific purpose rather than just collecting it to shorten time spent collecting data and reduce manual labor. They mention the importance of digitizing data collection. Podcast hosts can use Jotform to manage their schedule by using the calendar feature and workflow capabilities to act as an assistant and it can be used by podcasters to help manage their schedules and prioritize tasks. Find out about Jotform's development roadmap and how customer feedback informs their product decisions when you tune in and listen to an engaging conversation about data collection made easy and how Jotform can help shape your business. Episode Highlights 03:15 - The way I see it, the biggest value comes from, is actually the amount of budget you have. Think about, like you're against—assume that you have a startup, right? You're probably against some very big folks out there who has much bigger marketing spend, thousands of people doing something. So, you need to be smart. You need to cherish every dollar you have. You need to work around every idea that you have. You need to make sure that it actually works, and then you start investing by seeing returns. 05:51 - Try to comprehend it as if that's kind of an app. Like you need to think about anything that you use, a banking application, right? You put in your credit card information, but the aim is to deposit some money. So, when you start to look at it, you understand the full image of what you're trying to achieve and then try to fill the gaps. And the next stage becomes shortening the time to collect repetitive data, eventually making you have a better day, less time spent over a computer doing manual stuff. 07:57 - You have to collect data. I like to put it this way. It's like human communication, right? I mean, human communication is just collecting data and responding to something. Given any type of business that you need to do, you need to get some sort of requests from your customers and deliver them something. It could be service or a technology product or whatever. So, the best way is to collect that data. You can either talk to them on the phone or you can get them to send you emails. But once you try to categorize this data and you want to navigate within it easily, it's actually where the forms come in to play because you make people reach you with a structured data set and it makes your life much easier. 11:36 - You need to keep a very heavy schedule. You need to kind of put stuff on your agenda, et cetera. That's actually for the podcast. You can just do all of them in Jotform. So, you can give your attendees, let's say, or people trying to reach out a form and that would get edited onto your calendar automatically, and you can just move them out, respond them over that calendar that we provide. It's like having your own assistant. Forms combined with workflows could actually–I don't know if you have an assistant, some people do, some doesn't–but Jotform can act like your assistant to manage all the schedule. 13:25 - Family comes first. It's what I can say. Always. As a business podcast, we are all business people. There was this...

Through raw conversations with a diverse array of guests, including pastors, therapists, and even adult industry professionals, Josh found unexpected solace and guidance. What began as a mission to share wisdom with fellow men evolved into a profound self-discovery journey. This micro episode is a testament to the power of resilience and the potential for positive change in the face of adversity. Episode Highlights: 02:52 - This is where I think, when you're in your sweet spot, you're doing what you love for the people that you love, and it's sustaining you and your family, that's when I know that I'm in my jam. So, it's like you can do mission while still making money. That's kind of like my model. The mission is in the margin. You got to be profitable, or you can't just hand out money you don't have. So, why not do something that does both good and good for a cause you believe in. I like leveraging them together. And on the selfish side of it, I was getting help. People were helping me, and it was helping my audience at the same time. So, I love the mission side of media as well. 24 Feb 2025 | 513: How to Boldly Inject Your Faith Into Your Business | 00:10:05
Have you ever felt like you had to hide your faith at work? I used to feel the same way, struggling to balance my beliefs with maintaining professionalism. But over time, I’ve discovered how to seamlessly integrate my faith into my business culture without alienating others. Struggling to bring your faith into the workplace authentically? In this episode, I’ll share how I’ve found ways to live out my beliefs in my business life, staying true to myself while respecting others’ boundaries. Here are 3 Key Takeaways: Be Authentic, Be You My faith is a core part of who I am, and I’ve realized it’s okay to let that shine through in my work. Whether it’s through integrity, kindness, or service, I aim to live out my values in everything I do. When I’m authentic, people notice—and that connection matters. Respect Workplace Culture It’s crucial to understand and respect the culture of your workplace or business environment. For me, that means abiding by policies and honoring the beliefs of those around me. If my environment doesn’t align with my values, I reflect on whether it’s the right fit and make decisions from there. Service with Faith I’ve learned that actions often speak louder than words. By leading with a servant’s heart—through patience, integrity, and excellence—I can let my faith influence and inspire others without needing to say a word. It’s not about preaching; it’s about living by example. 12 Nov 2022 | Ep 236: Don’t Follow Your Dreams, Follow Your Purpose with Dr. Joe Johnson | 00:38:33
When it comes to finding success in your career, there's no single formula that will guarantee success. However, there is one important ingredient that you can't afford to ignore: your purpose. Too often, people chase their dreams without first stopping to consider what they're really passionate about. As a result, they end up in jobs that don't fulfill them and eventually become unhappy or even disengaged with their work. According to a recent study, 52% of employees are unhappy at work and 71% are disengaged. What's more, 50% or more of workers are actively looking for new jobs while they're still employed. Dr. Joe Johnson is a perfect example of someone who followed his purpose and made a significant impact as a result. Despite graduating from high school with a 1.6 GPA and undergrad with a 2.4 GPA, he went on to become a successful national speaker, trainer, peak performance coach, and entrepreneur leader. In this episode, Dr. Joe shares his thoughts about taking time to learn who you are and finding your authentic voice, understanding the game you're playing in, learning from experiences to overcome obstacles, unleashing our purpose, being selfish with healing, and becoming aware of your thoughts, feelings, and actions so you can learn how to control them. This focus on personal growth has helped Dr. Joe create minor shifts that have had a major impact in his life and career. And as a result, he's been able to help countless other people do the same. Episode Highlights: 05:41 - There was this feeling that I was doing the right thing. Purpose to me, is a soul feeling. You're going to feel it in your soul, right? And so I stuck to it because it takes a long time to figure out who you are as a speaker, your style, right? Because what you see is people try to mimic other speakers and you can't be great unless you are who you are. And so that's why I took so long. I was nurturing my purpose, figuring out my flow, figuring out what I wanted to talk about, figuring out who I was as a speaker. And then it was time to start to get paid. 24:44 - A lot of people dream big but then they get to this destination and they're like, yo, this is not what I thought it was going to be. And the purpose is different. So if you look at the fundamental definition of dreams and purpose, they're two different things. Dreams are thoughts or ideas that may or may not come true. That's the fundamental definition. Purpose is the reason for which something or someone exists. If you just look at the fundamental definition alone, and if you have any type of spirituality to you, there's a spiritual piece to the reason for which something or someone exists. It's here. You don't find your purpose, you don't discover it, you unleash it, it's already here. But then what happens, you get introduced, once you tap into that initial layer of your purpose, then you get introduced to the other levels of your purpose. 35:40 - Sometimes it's as simple as I just need a reset, I need to take a weekend to myself, get back to center, realign, and I'm back. But sometimes it's I'm done with this job. I'm done with this relationship. I`m done with my old self. If you understand the game that you're playing in and the first game you need to understand is self is this game called life. Connect with Elzie Connect with Dr. Joe
07 May 2023 | Ep 298: Strategic Planning and the Culture of Sales with Liz Heiman | 00:06:17
Elzie and Liz Heiman discuss how sales is at the heart of any successful business. Liz provides advice on hiring sales personnel who fit in with a company's mission and values. She also suggests having a strategic plan with clear objectives to create a culture of sales within the organization. Discover how creating a strong culture of sales through strategic planning can result in the successful hiring of personnel with shared mission and values. This episode is essential listening if you are looking to build an effective sales team, or just trying to get better results from your current team. If you're an entrepreneur looking to build a successful business, you won't want to miss this. Episode Highlights 01:34 - Your sales team is the heart of your business. And everybody says, "Oh, no, no, my product is the heart of my business." Well, it may be the soul of your business, but it is not the heart, because it is the sales team that pumps the lifeblood through your organization and keeps it going. Because without that heart pumping, there's no company. And if you think about it, your heart isn't in your pinky. Because if it were in your pinky, it couldn't pump life blood through your body. It's in the center of your body for a reason, because it needs to be there. And your sales team is the center of your business, because it's all about the customer. And your sales team is the first team that really touches your customer directly. Marketing may influence them, but the sales team touches them. 06 Dec 2022 | Ep 242: Why Should Founders Have a Personal Brand? with Adam McChesney | 00:03:14
As an entrepreneur, your personal brand is one of your most important assets. It can help you attract customers and investors, build trust and credibility, and differentiate yourself from the competition. There are many ways to build a strong personal brand, but one of the most important is to be active on social media. Platforms like Twitter, LinkedIn, and Facebook offer powerful opportunities to connect with your audience, share your story, and thoughtfully engage with others. But building a personal brand isn’t just about self-promotion – it’s also about connecting with others and building relationships. So don’t be afraid to reach out to other entrepreneurs, thought leaders, and influencers in your industry. By building a strong personal brand, you’ll be giving your business a major competitive advantage. Episode Highlight 02:04 - My profile and all my content is geared towards 90% what it is like to be an entrepreneur, 10% digital marketing, but it's always telling a story and connecting that to something that our clients experience so that way the potential client on the other end can get tied into that story and just be like man, if I just hired Adam and his team, maybe I could experience those things but by doing so I've opened up. I've been super vulnerable, here's what is not going well in business, here's what is, but I tell the story so that way whether people like my stuff, comment, share it or not, they just see it. They're like, man, Adam is a real human. He is a digital marketer but he's an entrepreneur and a human just like myself and so that gets me a ton of business. Episode Highlights 00:37 - 2019, I had already told myself that in 2020 I'm going to have to quit my job because I'm going to make more money as an entrepreneur. So, I had already started to work on certain things to set myself up for success. I didn't then know that God was going to push me out the door at the beginning of 2020 to get to that success. I had no idea. So, the first thing I did, and I'll be God honest with you all, I went on YouTube. I started researching different coaches, and I found a coach. That was the first thing I did. 25 Mar 2024 | 456: Navigating the E-Commerce Boom with Ken Burke | 00:30:10
Elzie gets into the nitty-gritty of e-commerce and e-learning with Ken Burke, an esteemed entrepreneur who took his online commerce company to generate $2 billion in annual revenue. Ken shares his transition into leveraging AI in his microcasting platform, his dedication to curating seamless courses, and his withstanding belief in the significance of specializing in the early stages of entrepreneurship. This is a master class in focus, riding the wave of emerging trends, and the critical importance of sales and marketing. Episode Highlights: 16:14 - When I talk about land and expanding, I focus on one market, on selling one set of feature sets, and on one message, right? So here's what I want to make sure of, there's another one of my sayings. When you try to talk to everyone, you talk to no one because your message doesn't resonate. 18:54 - When the engine is starting to work, you, as the entrepreneur, don't need to attend to the engine every day. That's when, you know, you can actually move on to something else. You can either broaden your product, or you're going to naturally broaden your product or service offering. 26:30 - So, by having that thought leadership position and having the ability to educate on an ongoing basis using webinars, which is in the olden days, that's what you used to do. Now we do it through e-learning. And so, all I'm doing is bringing that level of engagement that I had with my prospects, partners, and customers to light in a system that actually works, and you can just plug content in, and it does everything else for you. 24 Oct 2023 | Ep 379: Make Tracking Referrals Easy and Effective with Stacey Brown Randall | 00:05:20
Stacey Brown Randall introduces a straightforward method for monitoring referrals that requires no complex CRM or database system. With just a basic Excel spreadsheet or Google Doc, Stacey recommends four essential columns: date, prospect's name, source, and outcome. The "source" category encompasses a wide range of channels, from Facebook ads and networking events to specific referral sources' names or even LinkedIn followers. Meanwhile, the "outcome" field serves to indicate whether the prospect converted into a client, or if applicable, the associated revenue. By implementing this uncomplicated tracking system, business owners gain valuable insights into the most effective referral sources, ultimately streamlining their approach to generating referrals. Tune in now to learn this practical technique and elevate your referral game! Episode Highlight: 02:24 - Any of the applications for people to work with me, they have to tell me, "How did you hear about Stacey?" It's a standard question that's required. And sometimes they don't know, and so we take, "I don't know." That's fine, but you should be asking those questions through your processes. Or just when you're in that first conversation with a prospect, you could be like, "Hey, by the way, I don't think I know this, but how did you hear about me?" It's a simple question. Most people kind of expect it, but tracking it should be super simple. So, we're talking about four columns in an Excel spreadsheet or a Google spreadsheet. What I'm looking for is the date. I think it's important that you track the date. Now, one of the reasons why I tell my folks to track the date that that prospect entered their world is because you're not going to close every prospect. And we teach a strategy inside our coaching program at the beginning of every year. We remind our coaching clients exactly how you go back to anyone referred to you the year before that didn't become a client and the correct way to follow up. 04 Jul 2023 | Ep 323: How to Win Over Prospective Clients with Ron Story | 00:06:43
Ron Story discusses the sales process and compares it to a dating situation. He talks about how important it is to engage, converse, and listen when trying to win over prospective customers. Ron reminds us that the quality of the sales process should match your product or service if you want to convince customers. A poor sales pitch for an expensive item will not make a good impression. He also stresses that the sales process should match the quality of the product in order to win customers. Are you struggling to win customers despite having a great product? Have you considered that your sales process might be letting you down? Tune in now for great advice on how to land those deals. If you're looking to improve your sales process and win more customers, then don't miss out on this valuable episode. Episode Highlights 04:58 - You have to be sure that your sales process matches your product. If I'm just selling an ebook online, it should be like McDonald's, because I'm only getting $7 or $20 or something. If I'm selling a $1,000 coaching program or something like that or some type of service, it's probably not going to be Ruth's Chris. It's probably going to be something like a Chili's. It's going to be not the best sales process, but not the worst either. But if I'm telling you, you should give me $5,000 a month on a three-year contract or $20,000 a month for one-month of consulting or for a speaking gig, I'd better smell Ruth's Chris. I better get that Ruth's Chris feeling. That's the important thing. If you have those things match up, then it's easy to win because there's congruency in the sales process. 09 Nov 2022 | Ep 233: Unleash Your Purpose with Dr. Joe Johnson | 00:04:47
Purpose is the reason for which something or someone exists. It is the cause or intention for which something is done. Purpose is often thought of as a goal that we strive to achieve but it can also be thought of as a guiding principle that helps us live our lives in a way that is meaningful and fulfilling. Purpose can be personal or professional, individual or collective and it can change over time. But what remains constant is our need to find purpose in our lives. Dr. Joe Johnson shares his thoughts about purpose and how it can help us unleash our potential and live our best lives. purpose is the engine that drives us forward and propels us toward our goals. It gives our lives direction and meaning. And it is an essential part of who we are. Thanks for listening. Episode Highlight 03:33 - A lot of people dream big but then they get to this destination and they're like, yo, this is not what I thought it was going to be. But then what happens you get introduced, once you tap into that initial layer of your purpose, then you get introduced to the other levels of your purpose. With unwavering commitment, she gradually amassed enough funds to hire an accountant, further enhancing her financial knowledge. Listen to hear Dwan's inspiring journey of resilience and entrepreneurial growth. Episode Highlight: 00:42 - We were encouraged to go get a factory job because all the car factories were there. So, it was like, "Get a factory job, get married, have kids, work for the man, retire when you're 60, and do that." So, my very first job out of high school, I actually got a factory job. And after a week, I thought, "Oh, my God, why would my parents want me to work in a factory? This is the worst thing that's ever happened to me. Who would want this for me?" I remember being mad at my dad like, "Why would you want me to work in a factory? It's so hot. It's so miserable. There's no air conditioning. I got to stand all day. I'm dirty. I'm sweaty. Why would you want that?" So, I was like, "Okay, that's definitely not going to happen for me." People still weren't pushing women to go to college. It was more like get a factory job, get married, have kids, and, it was the 70s. It was still kind of that way. 05 Jan 2024 | 408: The Intricacies of Business Operations with Alicia Butler Pierre | 00:36:46
Elzie Flenard is joined by Alicia Butler-Pierre, Founder & CEO of Equilibria, in this enriching episode. They delve deep into the intricacies of business operations and tackle the often-neglected aspects of operations and revenue, using relatable analogies like a "leaking bathtub" to illustrate the consequences of poor oversight. They discuss various aspects of customer satisfaction, team managing, and even tease a potential limited series on operations. Discover the importance of documentation in business, with Alicia offering practical tips on how to document business processes effectively. She also suggests ways to do it even when pressed for time, from using audio recordings to simple visualization tools. Find out how established businesses can leverage frameworks to reorganize for growth and the significant impact of a sturdy business infrastructure on the bottom line. This episode is packed with actionable insights and a wealth of knowledge from Alicia's extensive experience in operations. If you're looking for advice on process improvement, business infrastructure, operational excellence, HR at home, and digital technology pieces, this episode is a must-listen. Alicia also shares her plans for international expansion in the next year. So tune in now! Episode Highlights: 05:23 - For businesses that will fail after that 10-year mark, there's a number of reasons why they can fail. But one reason, as you so again brilliantly pointed out, Elzie, is because they go from not having enough customers to having too many. And because they are not focusing on those things that you call as being in the middle, they're so focused on bringing the business in that they're not looking at the customers that are angry and not returning and leaving bad reviews and then bad word of mouth spreads way faster than positive word of mouth, all of these things start to rear their ugly head and it creates this recipe for disaster via failure. 11:58 - Document what you do and how you do it. Those two things alone will carry you far. And when you document it, document it in a way that if you were to hand it to someone else, that person could, within reason, not only follow it and understand it, but produce the same result as if you were to do whatever it is that you've written down. Think of this. This is what we call processes in operations speak. Get your processes and your procedures out of your head and onto paper, into some digital format. Whatever you can get it into that can easily be shared with someone else. 25:40 - How are stick figures and index cards foundational to your business infrastructure? Here's what comes out of those exercises that I just described. Number one, job descriptions. Now you have succinct, transparent, well-thought out job descriptions, so that there isn't any room for interpretation. You know exactly what you want that specific role to do, and now you're in a better position to go and recruit, interview, and hopefully even offer some type of offer to have someone join your team. It also serves as a foundation for creating an organizational chart for your business. You asked, "What does it look like when you have three to five employees or five to ten, then ten plus?" We always have at least two versions of an organizational chart that we create for our clients. The current state, meaning this is what it looks like now, and maybe for the next twelve months. And then there's a version, this is what it's probably going to look like in three years or five years, just so that everyone has a visual picture of how much the company can grow if they continue on their trajectory. 28:05 - The number one benefit truthfully goes back to your customer experience. Think about yourself as a customer. Even though you may not know exactly how the sauce gets made, you know whether or not you have a...

It's no secret that every professional experiences challenges during their career. How you overcome these challenges can determine your level of success. Mitchelle Lyle is a successful business professional who has faced her share of challenges throughout her career. They discuss some personal experiences she had throughout her career that helped her overcome all the professional challenges she faced into achieving success despite adversity. One of the few things that helped her stay grounded was learning the need for people as much of an introvert that she is. Despite enjoying her alone time, having a balance is also important. Tune in to find out how this balance has helped her to be a better leader. Episode Highlights 01:20 - So, one of my first learnings or challenges for myself was to go out every weekend and speak to three people. And even though I loved my routine of going to get me some sushi and a bottle of wine and my movies and just chill out, I also needed to explore the new space I was in. 10:15 - It was those few things like in that one where I said, "I'm not apologizing." I will go through this thing. I get it. I will hear you out. I will explain my perspective, but I will not apologize to you because that is what I'm going to hold on to out of this. 11:53 - No one even asked questions because I shadowed for a while. They don't even acknowledge these other things. Let's make this clean and concise was my goal. 13:17 - I think just weighing out the options, like I just knew I wasn't on the winning side. So, how can I best win holistically if I'm looking at the bigger picture. Episode Highlight: 04:41- In order to win the race and to get where I want to get through this path of entrepreneurship, the more lanes I open up the faster I'm going to get there, but oftentimes it's just not true. It's just not true I mean, now like I said, different people have differences of opinions on this, but from my own experience the more lanes that I had open the less energy I had available to put into one long enough to really see if it's successful enough. 04 Oct 2023 | Ep 363: Outsmarting Competition by Measuring Progress and Results with Meng Chen | 00:05:09
Explore the art of outsmarting competition with Meng Chen as he discusses measuring progress and results. In this episode, Meng shares his multifaceted approach to business, emphasizing the significance of thorough measurement and learning. As a founder, he navigates various aspects, not limited to engineering but also encompassing marketing, like SEO. Meng reveals his strategy of enhancing marketing knowledge through user feedback and interactions with real estate agents. Quantitative metrics gauge SEO performance, while qualitative feedback shapes agent partnerships. Documenting priorities and maintaining a backlog help him stay on course. In a refreshing twist, Meng discloses his secret to tackling competition: focusing on user problems rather than differentiating from rivals. Tune in to gain insights into effective progress evaluation and strategic competition management. Episode Highlight 00:33 - For me, as a founder, I'm no longer just focused on the engineering. Because as a founder, you have to look at every part of the business. Engineering is one part of it, and there's an even bigger part that I don't have the background on it, is the marketing. And the marketing has multiple component, like the SEO. People spend their whole career and be expert just on this one thing, so you can go really, really deep on it. And for me, I have to spend a lot of time learning whenever I'm driving, whenever I'm just not working on Portfolio Bay. I'll always have something just like a podcast or listen to a YouTube video either talking about SEO or talking about marketing in general, because that's my short weakness in all the skill set for doing the Portfolio Bay things. One that liberates someone from a space of pain, asking for an exchange that they see worthy of the path to them being liberated from that pain. 12:38 Everything that we get is a result of the cause and effect of our actions coming out and becoming a result. 13:35 We are experiencing the fruits of our unconscious habits and behaviors in our everyday life and those unconscious habits or behaviors are being executed on the back of our mindset. Nana's mission is to provide adaptable solutions for business owners, offering peace of mind while reducing risk exposure, considering the significant wealth tied up in businesses. The discussion covers crucial aspects like effective delegation, scenario planning, and utilizing the Value Builder System. Through insights on overcoming redundancy and embracing AI in business, this episode equips entrepreneurs with actionable strategies to enhance business value and minimize risk. So, don't miss this episode for a wealth of valuable business advice! Episode Highlights: 03:27 - I think the main thing, in terms of not being comfortable, is starting to think about the future "what ifs?" How would you like to be able to take a three-month vacation without your business being impacted? If something were to happen to you, a family member, your business partner and whatnot, would your business survive and for how long? If you were to decide if there was some kind of emergency, whether it's divorce, disqualification, or disability, would your business be able to make it? If you start thinking in terms of that, then it just puts a whole different–because nothing is forever. Yes, you love your business, but we're all not going to be on Earth forever. 04:53 - One is that the first thing is you want to have the people that you've identified as people you want to delegate. You want to have them watch you do it. And then as they watch, you want to then switch turns and have them do it while you watch over them. And then the next thing then is they go do it and then report back to you what is weekly status or whatever the frequency is. And then the final thing is they got it, they own it, they don't come to you anymore. So, those are the stages. 08:25 - The first one is customer satisfaction. How satisfied? So, essentially we start with what do you buy or sell, your products and your services? And then the main thing is, how differentiated is that? And then how satisfied customers are with it. How dependent is your business on you, the owner or the owners, if there's multiple owners? How dependent your business is on key people, your suppliers, your customers, your employees? What does the cash flow picture in your business look like? Those are some of the things that basically, and then, of course, in terms of your business model, is it a one-time transactional business model? Or is it a business model that relies on recurring revenue? 16:31 - I think the way to manage that is give them bigger responsibilities. Having them more involved in strategic planning and other brokering of relationships. That's when you start to realize we are trying to make sure you start to contribute to more value added activities. And so, giving them more and more responsibilities. Which is why, the reasons why you set it up. They start to feel like owners. You start to make them feel like they're owners, owners of certain areas of the business. So, you have, it's almost like an employee-owned business without making it official necessarily that way. It's sure to motivate you to strive harder and reach higher! Episode Highlight: 00:32 - To be a successful entrepreneur, it's not a solo act. You have to have a team. I can't find the houses and be the mortgage broker, the title company, the rehabber, and the bookkeeper. And it's not even delegating. You have to have other team members that have their own part. Like a title company has its part. My contractors, they have their role. Like podcasting, for me to grow my podcast, I have to meet other podcasters like you. And we get on each other's shows, and we talk, share, and go to podcast events. For me, my biggest thing was entrepreneurship is not an individual sport. And then the other aspect is that as the technology already evolves, and even the Meta Quest 2 now, you don't have to use the controllers. Your hands are actually what you're doing. 23 Dec 2024 | 504: From Burnout to Balance: Strategies for Entrepreneurs to Thrive | 00:09:52
In this episode, I talk about how to keep your passion alive and stay focused on your purpose without burning out. I’ll share some of the key habits that have helped me fuel my fire and keep moving toward my goals with intention. Key Takeaways:
Three Habits to Keep Your Flame Alive: 1) Reflection: I’ve learned that taking time to pause and reflect regularly helps me refine my fuel and stay focused on what’s working. 2) Focus: I’ve found that when I start my day with clarity—whether it’s through planning, prayer, or just a few minutes of stillness—I can avoid distractions and do what matters most. 3) Recharge: I used to push myself non-stop, but I’ve realized that even the strongest flames need rest. Self-care is crucial, and I’ve made it a priority to recharge my body intentionally and mind to keep my energy levels up. I challenge you to start by taking just five minutes each day this week to reflect and ask yourself: What is fueling my fire right now? Are you wondering how to expand your customer base and forge impactful partnerships? Yanev Suissa has the answers. Looking for real-world examples of diverse customers? He discusses a range of industries, including Fortune 480 companies, the public sector, technology, healthcare, commercial, and international sectors. Tune in as he shares strategies for working with investors who offer diverse networks of contacts and collaborating with strategic investors who bring something unique to the table. Episode Highlights: 01:30 - In the venture world and in the startup world and the entrepreneur's world, we sell what could be the vision. But a customer wants what they can use now that drives ROI now that brings them a return and value now for the problem that they're experiencing. And so, I think that that's a really important thing. When you're going into a customer, you could sell a vision. You could sell a tool set that they could do a million things with, but they're not going to think for you. So, at the end of the day, you want to be able to say, "I know you have this pain point. I can solve this now." 08 May 2023 | Ep 299: Master Different Sales Methodologies with Liz Heiman | 00:03:47
Liz Heiman goes over a variety of sales procedures and systems, helping you to gain insights into the best possible approaches. She explains that a framework is a set of guide rails that companies must use to communicate and define their ideal customer. She discusses various recognized methodologies within the sales world such as Sandler, Challenger Sale, MEDDIC, Solution Selling, SPIN Selling, and Miller Heiman’s Strategic Selling, Conceptual Selling, and Large Account Management Process. Liz stresses that these methodologies don’t offer any secrets or magic but instead they require an organized process when selling complex products or services to multiple buyers. If you're looking to improve your sales game, then don't miss this episode. Such methodologies are essential for understanding the process of selling complex products or services to multiple buyers. Tune in now to hear more about how these strategies can give you an edge in closing deals successfully. Episode Highlights 01:29 - In sales, there are a whole bunch of companies that have created methodologies, and you may have heard of some of them. Sandler is one of them. The Challenger Sale is one of them. There's a new one called MEDDIC. I don't know how new it is, but that's kind of a methodology. I come out of the world of Miller Heiman. So, Miller Heiman created programs called Strategic Selling, Conceptual Selling, and Large Account Management. And that was really the early days of creating methodology or process around sales. So, Solution Selling was also happening at the same time and SPIN Selling was also created about the same time. These are also methodologies. And these are the very beginning of "Hey, there's a process that you follow to do this." Something that people ask, "Well, if this is great, why hasn't it been done before?" 15 Oct 2023 | Ep 371: Discussing Solutions For Podcast Income Struggles with Andrea Pass | 00:04:42
Elzie delves into the challenges faced by podcast hosts who find themselves at the lower end of the income spectrum in the podcasting industry. Joining the discussion, Andrea Pass offers valuable insights on the dilemma faced by PR firms and podcast hosts regarding engagement in pay-to-play arrangements to generate revenue. Andrea highlights the significant time investment PR professionals dedicate to researching suitable podcasts for their clients, making compensation a pertinent consideration. Additionally, she suggests that podcasters who can demonstrate substantial engagement metrics and foster strong relationships with guests are more likely to secure income through their shows. Tune in for a thought-provoking conversation on navigating podcast income struggles and exploring potential solutions. Episode Highlight: 02:11 - I see a lot of podcasts that they're not posting on social. There isn't an engagement. If they are posting, no one's following it except the PR person like me. And so, if there's no engagement other than to say, "I think I have X number of listeners," then what are you selling to the potential audience? So, there really is a challenge in that. In the world of public relations, I consider Andrea Pass Public Relations is a client of mine. So, I'm my own client. So I'm out there like I am today, getting featured on your particular podcast because you reach an audience of business experts and entrepreneurs that would be appropriate clients for me. But it's all part of a process. Is it cut and dry on how it can work? I don't really know because clients are waiting for those analytics. 05 Jun 2023 | Ep 310: Revolutionizing Education with Virtual Reality Applications with David Scurlock | 00:05:27
Are you tired of traditional classroom settings that can be dry and uninspiring? Elzie and David Scurlock discuss how virtual, augmented and extended reality technologies are revolutionizing education and workforce development. David is the CEO and Founder of In Your Face Learning and uses Oculus headsets and other devices to provide immersive experiences such as virtual field trips and International Space Station simulations to both children and adults. He also works with those affected by the justice system, providing education on cell phone and computer literacy, as well as introducing them to leading-edge technology through headsets. Whether you're an educator, a student, or just someone interested in the future of education, this episode will give you a glimpse into how virtual reality applications are transforming the way we learn. Be sure to tune in and discover how you can get involved in this exciting new frontier in education. Episode Highlights 03:02 - Now, because the form factors are becoming more streamlined, the technology is becoming more user-friendly. It can now be used for education. Taking a virtual field trip, for example, that allows the students that I've worked with have never left the environment that they're in. But we put them in the headset, they can take a virtual tour of the White House hosted by Barack and Michelle Obama. I'll be working with a school in Glendale. They're studying space exploration right now. We put them in the headset and they're virtually in the International Space Station and they can experience what weightlessness is. So, that's in essence what I've decided to do is take those kinds of applications, use either virtual reality or augmented reality as a tool and go into schools all the way up into adult learners. So, tune in for expert guidance on navigating the realities of PR, ensuring your investments are both strategic and effective. Episode Highlight: 01:28 - Let's be fair. Listen to Chanto give advice for somebody looking to get started in the SAAS area, from getting word-of-mouth out through global reach afforded through virtual products, all the way up to finding your unique spin in order to stand out from everyone else. This promises to be an inspiring journey, so tune in! Episode Highlights 12:45 - How can you have destiny and free will? There's no way. I'll explain it. Destiny is your destination. That's the pin on the map and your free will is the route you take there. So, you're free to take any route you want, but once you embrace that you have the control in certain elements of the formula, then you know you're not going to try to control the constant. You're going to try to change the variable. 19:02 - The new economy has really been enabled by the Internet of things. So, as more devices and everything gets connected to the internet, that opens those additional doors for humans to interact and to connect through these Internet devices. And so, that's what I see in the future is that I can take a picture with my light bulb and play some LEDs off it. Who would have ever even thought about that? So, now that opens up the free thinking. So, for people to think 10 years ago who say, "Hey, I have an app idea," but it's so daunting, just how to get it done. The proposal itself is 10 pages. But now, 10 years later, they can just go online. It's a drag and drop app builder that they can prototype in one hour. So, now we're able to just bring our ideas and manifest them way easier than just pen and paper now. 26:50 - I would say the best thing to do is do your due diligence, your self-recon into the space you want to go to, and you want to assess, and you want to really make sure that someone else isn't doing what you're already doing. There's nothing wrong because Uber's already doing what we're doing, but we have a different spin on it. Which is what? My advice is to make sure you find your spin on it. Find your spin because everybody can now all spin together. 24 Nov 2022 | Ep 240: The Growth Hacker's Edge with Sabir Semerkant | 00:34:28
In this episode, the main conversation topics revolve around the world of entrepreneurship, conducting business using a scientific method, and mastering the ego to be a better business leader and to make better business decisions. Sabir Semerkant's background is in computer science, which he leverages to help businesses grow through marketing and customer acquisition strategies. He explains how it requires time, work, and commitment to develop a thriving business as an entrepreneur. In the course of running your business, you should develop the habit of routinely putting your theories to the test and making adjustments in response to the results of those tests. Entrepreneurs need a competitive edge and that's what Elzie and Sabir dive deep into this podcast episode. Growth hacking requires more than just being an entrepreneur; it requires a penchant for thinking outside the box. Tune in to find out how you can keep learning and exploring to grow and gain new skills, which will give you the drive and determination to get closer to your business goals. Episode Highlights: 02:42 - You can learn it but the thing is, you do need to have that knack that gives you that edge, otherwise, you're going through the mechanics of entrepreneurship. You're not really thinking, I hate to use the phrase thinking out of the box. But you're not thinking out of the box you're thinking like, "Oh, you know what? I need to go through these 12 steps. I need to go through these six things. I need to do SEO optimization. I need to do this and that." You're going through the mechanics of it, but you cannot really think outside the box to really – how do you take a product that has no presence nobody knows about it to becoming a household name? That cannot be your basic marketing classes that you took. You have to have some interesting side of you that you think very differently in order to bring that product and make it a household name. 06:50 - To me, I would never say I'm right. Ever. Like as soon as you say that, go like, "Oh, you know what? I was right about that five dollar coupon. Look at how many people came back." Don't do that to yourself. Don't ever do that. In every boardroom, every executive management boardroom, and everyone of those meetings, everybody looks at a north star person, right? The CEO is right. The CMO is right. The VP of Marketing is right. She is right because she is the VP of, whatever, product management, right? As soon as you do that, you're bound to fail 100%. 12:16 - It's a lot of self-reflection. It's a lot of looking deeper into yourself to see, "Did this thing fail because we did the wrong things or did it fail because of what I did?" Because if you mistreated one of your top developers on the team - engineers - and the person is now just collecting a paycheck and doesn't care about anybody's success, your success or company's success, nothing, to them it's just a paycheck. They'll come in. They'll do the bare minimum that's needed. Did they turn into that person because of the way you treated them as a leader? Connect with Elzie Connect with Sabir Semerkant
12 Feb 2024 | 434: Mastering the Art of Deals With Corey Kupfer | 00:31:32
Elzie Flenard engages in an insightful conversation with Corey Kupfer, a seasoned entrepreneur and expert in law, negotiation, and podcasting. Corey shares his journey from being a Brooklyn kid to establishing a successful law firm and speaking, training, and consulting company. As a deal maker, Corey delves into the strategies he employed to build, grow, and scale his service-based business in the highly competitive field of law. Corey and Elzie explore various types of deals, such as joint ventures, strategic alliances, online affiliate deals, sponsorship deals, and more. Corey also sheds light on his foray into podcasting and how it became a cornerstone of his authority marketing approach. The DealQuest podcast, now rated in the top 1% globally, has become a platform for deal makers to share their experiences and insights, inspiring entrepreneurs to explore different avenues for business growth. Listen now gain valuable insights into Corey's approach to negotiation, deal-making, and the significance of a clear mindset in achieving success in the world of entrepreneurship. Highlights: 11:09- So what happens in the authority marketing model is that some people think you have to do everything—you know, you have to be on Instagram, you have to be on LinkedIn, you have to be blogging, you have to be doing a podcast, you have to write a book, you have to write. And first of all, it's impossible and second of all, I think the most successful people find the platform of platforms that they're on. That's why they're comfortable with that; they're drawn to it. They're going to do it consistently, right? Because one of the biggest things on authority marketing is that you have to do things consistently. 18:50- So there's a deal-maker mentality. One of the reasons I really started the podcast is because I found that every company's trying to grow organically. Everybody's trying to get more customers, more clients, increase sales and marketing, and provide great products and services, right? And you should do that. If you can't get a customer, a client, get another one, and get another one organically, you probably don't have a viable business. Having said that, though, I also would run into people all the time who would be frustrated they weren't growing or they were not growing as fast as they'd like and they were trying to, let's say, access a new market or hire a new talent or get into a new vertical, geography, whatever it was, and they were trying to do it organically. And there are many, many ways that you can do deals to help accelerate that. And if you study the most successful companies, they do both. They have a good, or excellent, organic growth engine. And they also do deals. 33:30-The other huge thing that's been important to me in my life for many, many years now is being of service. And that's how I approach my clients and my law firm, but it's also, my wife and I are involved in many things outside of businesses, and I have a very specific goal in terms of what we want to do in terms of increasing our philanthropic work and specifically it's funny, we've given out a lot over the years, and we have given a decent amount of money. 04 Apr 2022 | Ep 196: Achieving the American Dream with Sharad Chadha | 00:26:28
Elzie hosts Sharad Chadha, the CEO and President at Sprecher Brewing Co. Inc. Sharad talks about how he started as an individual contributor to buying Sprecher, his motivation to own a company, growing the company, and tips and tricks to get people to the next level. They discuss the importance of having a coach, developing self-awareness, how making mistakes can be a good thing, and his inspiration to continue to serve the community with the company products. Highlights: 06:06 I’d always work in a very safe environment: General Electric company, Samsung. But I always wanted to be an entrepreneur, that’s sort of the American dream, first coming to America and then owning a business and running it and adding jobs and creating great things and we’ve been able to do it. It was a hard journey, it was not easy. 08:29 There was this drive, there was this urge inside that I can do it, we can do it. If I get the right people together, if I can mortgage my house and pour enough money in, leave my job and do it full-time and get the right investors and bank. 09:48 If you put a good team together and have a vision and have a plan that I, we, Sprecher can be this craft beverage icon of America, why not us? A small company from Glendale, Milwaukee, Wisconsin and once people believe in it, you do magic, you do great things. 15:16 A good coach is someone who can look at you from a neutral standpoint, look at your positives, your good and your flaws and tell you how to put yourself in a position where you can succeed and utilize your strength. 19:00 Your strength sometimes is your weakness, too. Be careful there. 22:07 It’s okay to make mistakes, I really believe that if you’re not making mistakes you’re not learning, you’re not trying hard enough but learn from it. Fail fast, fail small, fail quick. Get up and fight again. Resources Connect with Sharad Chadha Connect with Elzie Powered By Podcast Town We Help B2B Brands grow their revenue through podcasting. In this micro episode, Dr. Joe shares his thoughts about how it takes time to learn who you are as a speaker. He explains that you can't be great unless you are who you are. To find your authentic voice, you need to be patient and put in the work. Dr. Joe also stresses the importance of staying true to yourself and not falling into the trap of imitating other speakers. Ultimately, he advises that the best way to become a great speaker is simply to be yourself. By following these tips, you'll be well on your way to finding your own unique voice. Episode Highlight 04:08 - There was this feeling that I was doing the right thing. 28 Mar 2023 | Ep 285: Reach the Right Audience with Igor Kheifets | 00:04:14
Reaching the right audience is crucial for any successful business. This can make or break your venture, whether you're selling a product, providing a service, or advocating your cause. Refining your target audience could profoundly increase your success rate. Igor Kheifets believes that any effort made must be capitalized or repeated for further success. With careful thought and consideration applied to pinpointing exactly who needs your product or service, you can ensure that your audience reaches its maximum potential. Listen to Igor to discover how to create a strategic plan that will ensure a strong presence online to increase more traffic for your business. Episode Highlights 02:26 - Where making a lot of money was no longer in and of itself a goal. It had to come with the condition that I had to make the money without having to slave away for it or being away from home. So, this one I'm saying that later, I actually did go into consulting briefly for about a year. But I quickly discovered that if I wasn't on the phone with clients, I wasn't getting paid. So, that made the whole consulting gig for me kind of yucky, and so I moved away from that I transitioned from that. And now the model is completely different. I'm moved into a more leveraged model, where I still deliver the value for people, but I don't have to do it in person. Instead, it is essential to create an environment where everyone feels comfortable and the door is always open. Tune in to an episode that provides valuable insights for anyone looking to build a strong team and lead with empathy. Episode Highlights 01:21 - What's really important about being a leader is showing that you care and actually showing that you care, taking the time to ask questions, be flexible, to be understanding, and show interest. A lot of the same things that help you to be successful in sales, it's the same thing about being a leader. But the ultimate thing is really being empathetic. You're going to want things to be done on your timeline, especially when a lot of that pressure is mounting, but you just got to be understanding, be empathetic, understand things will happen as they happen, and really just try to keep people together. Because at the end of the day without everybody here, we couldn't do this. So, it's like I owe the success to everybody who's helped build this. 21 Dec 2022 | Ep 247: Invest in Quality People with Jan Cavelle | 00:05:04
Elzie and Jan Cavelle discuss the importance of investing in training and quality people as a business grows. They emphasize the need for leaders to do what is best for the business, even if it means making tough decisions. They also talk about the difficulties of growing a business and needing to let go of employees who were with the company from the beginning, how hard it is to have that conversation, and what would need to be done for it to happen smoothly. Having leaders who are knowledgeable and invested in their employees’ well-being will ensure that they put their best foot forward into any project they may undertake. Besides setting an example, these leaders should communicate effectively with their staff so that everyone feels heard and valued. Furthermore, providing employees with appropriate resources like technology or well-structured learning opportunities can help drive success within a company. Episode Highlight 00:56 - I think I didn't invest in the right quality people. There comes a time when you grow that you need some people who ideally are better than you, who are going to drive the business forward. 30 Oct 2023 | Ep 383: Crafting a Captivating Brand Narrative with Tonya McKenzie | 00:02:52
Join Elzie Flenard and Tonya McKenzie in this insightful episode as they dive into the often underestimated realm of brand storytelling. They underscore the pivotal role of elevating your message, a piece that frequently eludes business owners in comprehending the profound impact of their brand story. Tonya sheds light on the prevalent misconception surrounding the value of a brand narrative, emphasizing the necessity for individuals to reflect on their identity and its significance. Especially for women entrepreneurs, recognizing their inherent value and contributions to the business proves pivotal when crafting an authentic brand story. Tune in to discover the wisdom of drawing inspiration from established brands and integrating personal trials and triumphs into your narrative for a more compelling connection with your audience. Uncover the transformative potential of your brand story, embark on a journey to forge deeper connections, and elevate your business through the art of storytelling. Episode Highlight: 01:12 - I think it's really just a lack of understanding the importance of that. And then there is, particularly with women, not understanding your value and what who you are brings to the business. That is a part of the story–how you got here, how you founded this organization. But even the story behind that. What led you to solving this problem? Whether it's jeans that fit a different shape of woman, like where did that idea come from? Talk about that. It was probably some failure. It was probably some lack of ability to be able to find it somewhere else for yourself. And those are the things that connect people to your brand. 13 Aug 2023 | Ep 340: Reap the Benefits of Business Support with Daniella Genas | 00:04:07
Elzie speaks with Daniella Genas about her approach to scaling businesses. Daniella's background includes running her own business for eight years, earning her MBA, and conducting research on key success factors for growth businesses. Daniella discovered that combining support through accountability coaching and consultancy was more effective than relying on just one area. She observed that business owners often forget or don't implement recommendations given by consultants. That's where her approach differs, as she supports businesses through creating strategies and then following up for implementation. Daniella explains how her experiences inspired her to create a framework that fills the need she had in her first business. She says her MBA taught her the consultancy part, and learning how to be an effective coach was through informal coaching with other business owners. Daniella's framework includes meeting with clients regularly and covering a bit of consultancy, coaching, and mentoring. They work together to achieve the strategies and goals for the business. Daniella believes this approach is useful and important for businesses to have a 360-degree support system. Episode Highlight: 00:45 - What I also found when I started this business is that you can do the consulting bit and give them the big report and say, "Go away, and now go and implement." But actually, business owners are busy. What happened and it happened with me in my previous business, I had quite a few consultants come in and do these big pieces of work. They'd make these recommendations. They'd give me the report. The report would go in my bottom drawer, and it would be great at the time when I read it. But then now I'm back into operations mode. I've forgotten all about it and actually, nothing really gets actioned. So, then that's where the accountability piece comes in and the coaching piece, because actually we've got these strategies, and this is what we're going to do. And I'm going to support you with the process and get it done. So, it was kind of desk research, then I started to test the concept and realized actually that's exactly how I thought it was going to go, is exactly how it went. When I implemented the other elements is when I started to see the clients really excel and grow their businesses, and scale their businesses. 01 Sep 2023 | Ep 350: Invest Smarter, Not Harder with Adam Sharif | 00:23:31
Are you ready to discover a revolutionary approach to commercial real estate? Join Elzie as he explores the world of efficiency and transparency with special guest Adam Sharif, the Founder, CEO and Chief Strategist at nxtCRE. Adam shares his insights on leveraging technology to transform an illiquid market and provides valuable advice for overcoming challenges in the industry. Adam's journey in commercial real estate began as an investment broker, and his experience in the field led him to identify opportunities outside of traditional areas. One of the key challenges Adam faced was getting lenders to understand and embrace this innovative concept. Through perseverance and a can-do attitude, he overcame skepticism and successfully attracted lender partners across the country. He emphasizes that when pursuing something of value, roadblocks are inevitable, but maintaining a positive mindset and a strong commitment to execution are crucial. Discover the importance of bridging the gap between debt and equity in commercial real estate. Tune in to a discussion about the power of perseverance, the significance of execution, and the need for trust in building successful partnerships. Episode Highlights: 02:22 - I knew I wanted to be in commercial real estate, and there are two paths there on the transaction side. One is you can become a leasing broker where you represent either the tenant or the landlord, and negotiating leases and that sort of stuff. The other one is being an investment broker. And I said, "I'm going to be an investment broker." I'm committed to doing that and just made a lot of calls. I was a little lucky. One of the largest brokerage firms in the nation was expanding into Chicago at that time. I interviewed with them, and they hired me, and I learned a ton from that experience. In fact, anyone that's interested in getting into commercial real estate, I highly recommend, if you can get it, start out as an investment broker. 04:44 - When I first started in commercial estate, the debt guys were debt guys, the equity guys were equity guys, and they didn't talk very much to each other. They didn't communicate, and in many cases, they didn't even like each other. I mean debt doesn't go anywhere without equity. Equity is supreme no matter what. Yet the way it was set up, depending on your definition of the equity side, there was a sort of a caste system in place. What I discovered is that you can't do one without the other. Yes, equity is king. I knew that. Without equity, nothing happens. 14:40 - Our challenge probably is not too dissimilar from anyone else starting something that's never been done. Something that people ask, "Well, if this is great, why hasn't it been done before?" Those are some of the challenges we have—getting commercial estate lenders to understand that what we're saying is actually true. They scratch their head, like this sounds almost too good to be true sort of thing. And sometimes when people think that, they start thinking maybe they shouldn't be the first one. In fact, our biggest challenge was getting the first lender to sign up, and then our second challenge was getting the first lender to start using us. 17:41 - I'm just saying, "Listen, you're trusting me. If you're going to jump on board, you've got to trust. You're doing it because you trust my ability to execute." Everyone thinks it's a great idea, but every idea doesn't work and every great idea doesn't get executed. But it's all about the execution. I mean, the idea is great, but you only want to join me if you are confident in my ability to execute. When you start attracting people based on just that, you're not getting paid or anything like that, then you know that what you're trying to do isn't just you. Other people are seeing it and also are confident that it, too, will be...

05 Mar 2023 | Ep 273: Turning Struggles Into Strengths with Clarene Mitchell | 00:05:06
Clarene Mitchell shares her struggles and successes as an entrepreneur. In 2016, she experienced a traumatic job loss that left her unable to find employment for nearly a year. She found a way to turn that challenge into an opportunity by creating her own work through entrepreneurship. Throughout their conversation, Elzie and Clarene explore how entrepreneurship can be used as a tool for transformation and personal growth even during challenging times. They also discuss how entrepreneurship can help create economic stability and financial freedom for individuals on their journey to success. If you’ve ever wanted to know more about entrepreneurship or if you’re looking for inspiration on how to turn a struggle into a strength, tune in to hear all about a powerful example of how entrepreneurship can be used to turn difficulties into triumphs. Episode Highlight 03:18 - It was a chain of events that happened really that made it possible or doable. Again, I didn't have a job. So, I did the traditional thing that everyone is told to do. Go use LinkedIn, right? I had a profile for years, but I wasn't using it because it's the mindset or I had the mindset like people do still today that you just use it when you need a job. So, I started using it and using it more proactively and consistently because I was bored to death, and I needed to stay intellectually active. So, I was using LinkedIn in different ways than I had done before. 30 Mar 2023 | Ep 287: Streamline Your Workflow with Igor Kheifets | 00:34:57
Igor Kheifets shares his insight into how to leverage automation and passive income generation. He emphasizes how to make money without having to work all the time and explains how he learned to do this after his girlfriend left him because he was too focused on his work. Elzie joins the conversation and they talk about how emails can help you reach more people and have successful businesses. They discuss ways to get things done faster like using templates or automating processes so that you don't have to spend so much time doing them yourself. They then examine how to eliminate friction points in order to increase productivity. If you're looking for ways to streamline your workflow and automate processes so that you can focus on more important tasks, this episode of the podcast is a must-listen! Tune in to get valuable insights into increasing productivity and learn how to make money without sacrificing relationships or dedicating too much time to work. Episode Highlights 05:49 - When I started my podcast, and I've now had my podcast, the List Building Lifestyle Show, for a few years, I ran into a challenge where I had to record introductions for every single episode. And when you publish five a week, it gets repetitive. And anything that's repetitive I tried to eliminate from my life, whether it's cooking or cleaning, whether it's recording introductions, whether it's sending emails, anything that's repetitive, and I believe it can be automated. 11:40 - Where making a lot of money was no longer in and of itself a goal. 14:24 - If you get on their list, you start getting emails like non-stop. And the reason is because email is still the number one medium to get response from people and customers in general. If you want to sell an idea, if you want to sell a product, if you want to get an audience to listen to your next podcast, or if you really just want people to hang on your every word and to support your every cause, it's the email list that you're looking to build. Because first off, you control it. 07 Feb 2024 | 431: Blazing a Trail from Music to Tech Entrepreneurship with Chynna Morgan | 00:28:53
Blazing a Trail from Music to Tech Entrepreneurship with Chynna Morgan Chynna shares insights into her journey as a SaaS founder, recounting the challenges posed by the pandemic and how it led to the birth of Vidlo. Diving into the essence of user-generated content (UGC), Chynna breaks down the concept, emphasizing its impact on brand authenticity. She explains how Vidlo facilitates the creation of UGC campaigns, allowing brands to engage their audience organically. Chynna highlights the significance of a visually appealing brand design for capturing audience attention. The conversation flows seamlessly from discussing favorite campaigns to the pivotal role of connections and teamwork in business success. Episode Highlights: 10:08: So I think that a lot of times what brands do is create an experience, whether it's like a photo booth inside their store or a campaign to drive more impact for their brand. But what the audience is getting in return is a giveaway. They could get a promo code of, you know, you post this on Instagram. You get 10% off your next product. And to be honest with you, bigger than that, they're a part of the brand story now. Right? Now that you are, I'm seeing myself on your page. I feel like I'm a part of a story, which I think has a bigger impact than anything I said before. 17:30: You have to create a campaign that's visually appealing. So that's going to be the first thing someone's going to see when they scan it. If they think that your branding is sloppy or blurry, they're not even going to go to the next step. So I think first impressions always, have to have that good first impression. So I would say, like, make sure the design of your landing page for your logo is very clear and very nice. What else should they not do? You should not just let the campaign sit on the platform. 21:38: Because I think a lot of people have these ideas. Like you said, they think they're awesome. It's going to work right away. Right? But they're not doing any type of research to really understand their target audience. They're not doing any market research to really understand, is this business sustainable? Am I really going to make money off of this business? Or am I just being cocky and thinking that this is awesome because I thought of it? So I think that's where a lot of problems lie when people create businesses. It's like they're doing it for themselves, and there's really not a problem to solve in the market. So I want to make sure there was a problem to solve with Vidlo. So I did a lot of market research. 29:08: The key is not giving up. Right? And always knowing that, the goal ahead, if you don't give up, you're always going to attain that, you know? So I keep that in mind, and I just have passion for what I'm building. When you have passion about it and you see how it can benefit people and how it could change other people's lives or make their lives easier, that also allows you to keep on going as well. So I don't know. I think just from being young, I've always just kind of had this kind of resilience in me. And I never give up; if I believe something, then I'm going to keep on doing it.

16 Feb 2024 | 438: Credit Mastery and Creative Financing With Will Roundtree | 00:35:58
In today's episode, Elzie Flenard engages in a captivating conversation with business expert Will Roundtree. Together, they dive deep into the realm of business credit, funding strategies, and the art of managing finances. Throughout the conversation, the importance of structured business approaches is underscored. Will advocates for businesses to operate with a focus on customer experience, result-oriented processes, and scalability. The episode encapsulates the essence of wealth-building through creative financing. Will's journey from personal credit struggles to mastering creative financing and building a financial education empire is both inspiring and educational. This episode provides valuable insights into the world of business credit, funding strategies, and the mindset required for financial success. Tune in, learn, and transform your approach to business and finance. Highlights: 02:31 - The banks know that nine out of ten businesses will fail year one through three, and the likelihood of a business being open past year one through three is about 10%. And so the odds are stacked against most people. So, when people go to the bank and the first thing they say is, "Oh, let me go get a small business loan," it's almost like looking for Bigfoot; it's almost nonexistent. But then, a lot of times, people will say, "Well, let me try to go for an SBA loan." Less than 1% of businesses ever get approved for SBA loans, especially in the black community, because a lot of those businesses don't have their paperwork in order. 11:35 - I started studying economics because I often say that one of the reasons why a lot of small businesses, especially in our communities, don't make it is that we don't learn the economics of things. We hear about financial literacy, but I think that economics is the second part of that. And so in my four-step Roundtree methodology, I call it that there's four things that you need to focus on, or four steps. Number one is mindset. Number two is understanding the power of credit. Number three is knowing the cost of money. That's the economic part, which eventually will help you build assets and wealth. 29:14 - A lot of times I meet so many people who go and get capital or want to go into business, and they're so busy looking at everybody else's lens that they are trying to hurry up and get there, not knowing that the person who you're looking at probably has been in the game or running this race for 20 years, like myself. So, stop trying to compare yourself to somebody who's on chapter 20 and you're still in the introductory stage of your book or in your journey. 17 Nov 2023 | Ep 398: The Art of Making Deals & Profitable Podcasting with Josh Wilson | 00:29:49
Ever wondered how podcasting can be a catalyst for strategic alliances and profitable relationships? Join Elzie Flenard in this enlightening episode with fellow podcaster, author, and commercial real estate capital advisor, Josh Wilson. A devoted family man and seasoned entrepreneur, Josh unveils his secrets to monetizing relationships and leveraging podcasts for impactful partnerships. With a track record of 10 successful podcasts and iTunes chart-toppers, Josh shares game-changing insights. Shift your focus from vanity metrics to creating connections that fuel revenue and drive success. Tune in to discover the power of podcasting in building communities, setting clear goals, and amplifying your strengths. Learn how Josh transformed podcasts into revenue-generating ventures and overcame challenges on his path. Episode Highlights: 09:39 - So, I stopped worrying about the audience. I focused on a community of people. All you need is about 100 people that you serve. And then I would use guests and work with guests to help them in their business, and then I'd introduce them to my community, and then I'd put deals together. And now I'm getting paid from all these different resources. And I get to do what I love to do, is meet people, hear their story, share my testimony about God and about my life, share things about business and help support other people, invest in things. That's all I do all day. And now I build those programs through my PR firm. And I work with people like you who could do the work much better than me, right? So strategic relationships, strategic alliances, that's the difference of the podcasting. 13:44 - You always have to try things. You always have to test out new models. And we tried things that I had to give money back, and I said, "Hey, we tried to run this campaign that required me to do this, and I failed. Here's your money back, and I'm sorry." So, I think as we're doing this, some of the skill sets that are transferable is like, focus on your strengths. Focus where you're good. Focus on the things that drive you. And if you're just doing this to get an audience, go dance in a bunny suit or something like that. You'll get likes and comments from there, and hopefully, you make money spinning signs or dancing like that. But if you're in this game, the podcast game, to grow your business, to make an impact, which you could do both, which I love talking about that, then stop going after those kind of things. Focus on your strengths. Focus on a deliverable. Interview someone that you want to do a deal with. And have something, a very clear path, for them to engage with you. 16:06 - This is a small world. The podcast world is a small world even though there's millions of podcasters or whatever. I don't want to be known as a guy who doesn't show up, doesn't admit that he's wrong. I've had people that I've had to return money back, and they go, "Hey, cool. Let me know when you're on to the next one," because I built trust. Maybe that was a $6,000 gig. Next time I bring $10,000, they'll be careful, but they'll be open to it. Like, they even said, "Hey, when you're ready for the next one, let us know." I built trust, and I try to do that, and I've made mistakes, and I try to make them right, but I'm always moving forward. So, other actionable things, have a plan, try to create a plan. That's hard for me. So, the process of writing it out, hiring a consultant, having them take a look at it. Have them take a look at your processes and your deliverables. A lot of times, for a visionary, if you just go through that process, you'll go, "That can make me money," but I don't want to do that, so then scrap it. 26:17 - This is where I think, when you're in your sweet spot, you're doing what you love for the people that you love, and it's sustaining you and your family, that's when I know...

28 Sep 2022 | Ep 218: Why You Shouldn't Take Business Personally with Dallas Gordon | 00:04:53
As a business owner, it can be easy to take things personally. After all, your business is a reflection of you and your hard work. However, b2b founders need to remember that their businesses are just that - businesses. They are not personal projects or extensions of themselves. This is an important distinction to make, because it can help you to separate your personal life from your business life. When you take things too personally, it can lead to bad decision-making and conflict within the company. It can also make it difficult to let go of the business if it isn't successful. On the other hand, if you keep things professional, you'll be able to make better decisions and create a more successful company. Episode Highlight: 03:28 Instead of them realizing that this is not a launch, this is just a test, this is an opportunity for me to learn and do better next time. This is not me, they walk away feeling like it's me that they don't want and so they just keep trying to fix themselves and repair themselves over and over again thinking people don't want them, but I feel like on the product side, it's more direct because if I decide I'm going to sell computers or something, and you don't like the brand of computers that I sell, so you don't buy from me. That's your business. I'm not taking it personally at all. I'm like, oh, they just didn't want the computer. It's not me they didn't want. Drawing from her MBA studies and empirical research, she shares the pivotal lessons she learned and how her framework has helped clients achieve remarkable results. Daniella's emphasis on vision, innovation, strategy, systems/processes, and accountability provides a roadmap for success. Learn from Daniella's own experiences as she highlights the importance of clarity, client-centered approaches, and business model innovation. Discover the significance of automation, delegation, and outsourcing to create a sustainable and scalable business. Whether you're a B2B service provider or a SaaS entrepreneur, Daniella's advice on building a business on solid systems and processes will revolutionize your approach. Tune in now and gain the tools you need to unlock growth, achieve time independence, and build a business that thrives even in your absence. Episode Highlights: 03:02 - What I also found when I started this business is that you can do the consulting bit and give them the big report and say, "Go away, and now go and implement." But actually, business owners are busy. What happened, and it happened with me in my previous business, I had quite a few consultants come in and do these big pieces of work. 11:05 - For each individual area, I have a separate kind of package. As I said, I've got Vision:20. I've got "build my strategy", "guide my vision", so there's a variety of different areas. When we take clients through that, the whole thing, we see amazing results. We've had clients scale very low four figures up to six, seven figures and still climbing. Actually, what my clients often say is the most impactful piece is that vision piece. Because really what I also encourage them to do, which is more of a coaching element, is around the idea of thinking big. 15:51 - As much as you want to be doing all of these things, life happens. Giving examples and case studies of this also is usually a big eye-opener for them. Some of them come to me because they've experienced severe burnout because they're tired. They're exhausted. So whilst for some people it is that kind of I want to be the be all and end all, I think sometimes physically, mentally, practically, they recognize actually this is not sustainable. Me taking them through the process of asking them questions and kind of shining a light on that makes them realize how unsustainable actually and we need to do something about it. 17:12 - Biggest life lesson, I would say my motto, which is think big, take action, keep pushing. I talk about this a lot. And actually, what has enabled me to grow my current business at a much faster rate than my...

Episode Highlights: 12:06 - I was this close to shutting down the business and going to get a job because I couldn't figure out what my uniqueness was and what my passion was. And when I then started talking to a money mindset coach, she asked me, "What's your why?" And I told her, and she said, "You know, you've accomplished that. You need a new why." 18:08 - You have got show up and look the part. You want to be attractive, so people are like not repelled by you, but attracted to you. You have to have good brand tactics. You have to know your elevator pitch. Who are you? What do you do? What do you say? 21:57 - I want your audience to hear this, especially for brown entrepreneurs. I don't think I'll ever start another business from scratch. Franchising can save you time, money, and energy. You're going to spend that same $40,000 to build it from scratch. 15 Jan 2024 | 414: Mastering Fear and Gaining Confidence with Jamar Jones | 00:03:11
Jamar Jones dissects the core elements that contribute to entrepreneurial success and tackles common obstacles such as fear, lack of confidence, and the often-underrated aspect of self-awareness. Jamar shares his unique three-fold approach towards overcoming these challenges, but the highlight centers around an unexpected factor – the power of self-love. He emphasizes its role as the cornerstone of true confidence, freeing entrepreneurs from the shackles of external validation. This micro episode is a treasure trove of actionable strategies, vital lessons on fear dynamics, and secrets to fostering ironclad confidence. So, if you're an aspiring entrepreneur or a seasoned veteran seeking a breath of fresh perspective, you won't want to miss this. Episode Highlight: 02:02 - When I went international, it changed my perspective completely because I was the foreigner. And I'm like, "I don't even know how to cross the street." I'm learning all these things different. So, when I went back here, I was like, "Wow." This is like my whole thought process. I'm like, "There's more to life than just what I had in my bubble." So, you learn those things. And the last one I'd like to sprinkle on there is self-love. You have to love yourself first and not seek validation from others. So that way you can truly believe in yourself, love yourself first, and not just look for others to bring you up in this world. And so, self-awareness is key. So, if you talk about for business, as these things are happening to you in business, the more that you're aware and you can make those changes, the quicker and faster you can implement. In this episode, Elzie talks to William Deck, who says that the first step for somebody who wants to start their own business is to figure out what the end goal is and what would make everything worthwhile. He also suggests questioning intentions - if it's just about making money, it may not be something worth pursuing. They discuss that the most important thing for entrepreneurs to understand is joy and they recommend only doing things that bring joy both personally and in business. They also stress the importance of communication with loved ones early on about some of the sacrifices that may need to be made during this process. Tune in to discover the power of developing sustainable connections, both professionally and personally! Episode Highlights 01:45 - Begin with the end in mind. As you begin to think about and conceive some of these ideas, what are the actual outcome? How can you uniquely add value to the marketplace based on your natural skill set or what brings you joy? There's always a way. But what is the end goal? What is that feeling, that outcome that would make everything that you do worthwhile? Think about that first and get really clear on what that is. 11 Aug 2022 | Ep 203: The Right Way to Market a Business with Kathleen Celmins | 00:14:27
As an entrepreneur, marketing is important for a number of reasons. Elzie’s guest, Kathleen Celmins, explains that first, it allows you to share your products and services with the right people in a strategic way. By targeting your marketing efforts, you can reach your ideal customers and clients more effectively. Additionally, marketing helps you to build a strong personal brand. Find out how an effective marketing strategy can help you to maximize your profits and grow your business. Highlights: 02:36 The truth is, without marketing you don't have a business or an easy way to get leads. 04:32 Credentials are important but you have to remember as an entrepreneur that having a specific way to solve a specific problem is more crucial in business than your credentials. 08:51 As an entrepreneur, you have to know that every business deals with people. That's why marketing is so important. 09:19 Personal branding helps you regardless of what it is that you serve or sell or develop. 12:59 When you're adding a new service or you're launching a new product or you're trying out a different platform, you need to give it 90 days. 15 Feb 2023 | Ep 266: Compelling Content Through Podcasts with Max Gerson | 00:04:04
Creating compelling content for a podcast can be a challenge, but it's well worth the effort. Podcasts offer an excellent platform to reach audiences by engaging with them through conversation. Max emphasizes the advantage of podcasts by creating valuable content that will move audiences through every platform available. Crafting a podcast that draws your audience in is the key. Everything from synthesizing the right message, selecting production elements, and applying giftology techniques can be essential components for making it a hit. Listen to Max how to put the power of giftology into play and give your audience what they need. Episode Highlights 02:45 - If you're in B2B and you're selling services, like how do people buy this stuff? They don't come to your website and open up their wallet and give you $20,000. It's a relationship. They need to know you and trust that you're not risky, and that you're the right type of solution for what they need because it's tough to buy any B2B service. When we put on pants, we know if they fit or not. How can we tell if this IT team is the right for us, if this marketing agency is the right fit for us? So, even if you're not actively podcasting, having that content on your site, having it be findable. If a client comes to me and they've been on the website, and they've listened to the content, and they're telling me that they did, they are so much further along the path. That is such a warmer lead, and it's helpful because we're trying to help them. Marketing is the process of disqualification. Marketing is the process of saying no to everything and yes to the right things. 08 Nov 2022 | Ep 232: You Win Or You Learn with Dr. Joe Jonhson | 00:02:55
You Win Or You Learn. That's the mantra that Dr. Joe, a well-known speaker and business owner, lives by. And it's something that he wants everyone to adopt in their own lives. After all, as he says, life is all about learning. And while we may not always win, we can always learn from our experiences - good and bad. So the next time you face a challenge, remember the words of Dr. Joe: You Win Or You Learn. It just might help you to overcome whatever obstacles are in your way. Episode Highlight 01:52 - I went there excited like, oh well, I'm geeked, right? I get there, the whole conference, I sold a total of about 75 dollars in products. And then that moment was another crossroad that said do you want this and what I learned, because remember, there's no win or losing. We win or we learn. 29 Feb 2024 | 447: Self-Mastery, and the Power of Podcasting with Kimberly Spencer | 00:39:28
In this episode of the Enterprise Now show, Elzie Flenard engages in a conversation with entrepreneur and founder Kimberly Spencer. Kimberly is a certified high performance coach, bestselling writer, health junkie, freedom-lover, & unsinkable optimist. The conversation unfolds into a discussion about Kimberly's entrepreneurial journey, beginning with her decision to drop out of college at 17 to pursue an acting career. Kimberly talks about her coaching business and emphasizes the significance of resilience in entrepreneurship and how self-mastery plays a crucial role in personal and professional development. They discuss the power of taking ownership of one's journey and the transformation that occurs through challenges. Overall, the conversation provides a rich tapestry of Kimberly's entrepreneurial journey, self-mastery principles, coaching philosophy, and the transformative power of podcasting. Highlights: 14:36 - I came up with the idea, but I was doing all the things that I call productive procrastination. It was like doing the logo, like building a business plan. It looked really good, but I felt that there was no money flowing in from it and that whole process, and I had to take ownership of where I felt like my blame ended and where I would stop blaming my former business partner for my current circumstances and my lack of success. In my case, it was in my coaching business. 27:03 - When you've borrowed people's audiences enough, because you've guested on other people's podcasts, they've heard your message, they want to learn more, and you have your own podcast, then they're in an incubator of being able to consume your content, get to know you, understand your messaging, understand your values, and then discern based on long-form content if they want to buy rather than like short 15-second reels, where you're mouthing something that they may forget in a couple of days, like when you take the time to consume a podcast, three out of four people who listen to podcasts listen to learn something new. 30:59 - This is where I get very on with podcasters. Do the guest a favor, release the episode, honor your commitment, and be impeccable with your word, because podcasting can be a really good thing. This is like the secret sauce, guys, like it can be a beautiful way to pick your brain, like where you get the concepts, the knowledge, the book recommendations, the strategies—and you're like, holy crap, I'm getting this for free. Yes, you're getting this because you are committing to share their message and their strategies with the world. What drives me up a wall is when podcasters do that and then they don't release the episodes because only 5 percent of podcasts do, releasing an episode every 90 days. In this episode, Elzie talks to Dani Peleva who is the CEO and founder of the company called Franchise Fame which is a marketing agency for the franchising sector. Dani works with global franchisors and helps them expand into new territories through digital marketing campaigns and marketing strategies. The episode is about franchising and everything that’s going on behind it. Episode Highlights: 02:45 I believe a lot of people have business ideas or a passion for something but they are often afraid of failure or they lack support and knowledge on how to start themselves which is why franchising is a great opportunity for people who want to work for themselves and exit the corporate world but they need some structure and framework. 04:56 There are a lot of ways to get training and information about franchising especially in the era of the internet and communications. 07:08 I think a lot of the changes that happened in 2020 facilitated the franchising industry’s growth. It helped people realize that they can work for themselves but also mitigate risk. 10:11 The model of franchising is built on relationships, that is the franchisor trying to recruit franchisees that are going to buy into his business model. 13:04 For me, as a woman, I think the key to success has always been consistency. 15:01 I think once you know and understand yourself and what drives you and what your goal is, you will then get the answer to what you’d like to do. 21 Nov 2022 | Ep 237: Can Entrepreneurship be Taught? with Sabir Semerkant | 00:04:26
Can entrepreneurship be taught? This is a question that Sabir tries to answer in this micro episode. He starts by talking about how there is no one formula for success when it comes to entrepreneurship. Instead, it is important to find your own path and what works best for you. He also talks about how entrepreneurship is not something that can be learned overnight. It takes time, effort, and dedication to build a successful business. Entrepreneurship can be a difficult and challenging journey, but it can be incredibly rewarding. With the right mindset and approach, entrepreneurship can be an extremely rewarding experience. Sabir provides some great insights into the world of entrepreneurship in this micro episode. Episode Highlight: 00:29 - You can learn it but the thing is, you do need to have that knack that gives you that edge, otherwise, you're going through the mechanics of entrepreneurship, you're not really thinking, I hate to use the phrase thinking out of the box, but you're not thinking out of the box you're thinking like oh, you know what, I need to go through these 12 steps. I need to go through these six things. I need to do SEO optimization. I need to do this and that. You're going through the mechanics of it, but you cannot really think outside the box to really, how do you take a product that has no presence nobody knows about it to becoming a household name. That cannot be your basic marketing classes that you took. You have to have some interesting side of you that you think very differently in order to bring that product and make it a household name. We're talking about an inspiring journey taken by one woman, Clarene Mitchell, who recently decided to leave her home and embark on a road trip to Tulsa, Oklahoma. For her, this was a pilgrimage of sorts - the centennial anniversary of the 1921 Race Massacre that occurred in Tulsa was fast approaching and she felt drawn to visit. There, she wrote an article about her experience which got published locally as well as on LinkedIn. Now, Clarene is taking on entrepreneurship to help rebuild Black Wall Street/Greenwood District. Let's dive into Clarene's extraordinary story – from why she decided to make such a big change in her life and what she has learned along the way. It explores entrepreneurship through a unique lens of cultural identity, hope for the future, and how each of us can help bring about positive change in our own communities. Tune into hear from Clarene Mitchell herself and find out how entrepreneurship can give rise to some of life's greatest opportunities! Episode Highlights 01:23 - 2021 was the 100th anniversary of the Tulsa Race Massacre. I'm like, "I'm going to Tulsa." My goal was to go to Tulsa just to visit, go do the visitor/tourist kind of thing, pop in a couple of hours, get back in my car, and continue coming home. Nope. I couldn't leave. That city has been calling me since then. I didn't want to leave when I left. And so, now having the opportunity to go back and to live and to be a part of the rebuilding of Black Wall Street, the Greenwood District, as a Black entrepreneur, and just the energy, synergy that's going on there. Something about that city, the ancestral pull for me, and I'm just so thrilled about the opportunity to go, and that'd be my next chapter. 11 May 2023 | Ep 302: Taking Control of Your Funnel with Liz Heiman | 00:08:15
Liz Heiman explains that the sales funnel is shaped like a funnel for a reason because there are many more conversations and prospects at the top of the funnel than there are at the bottom. The goal is to have leads fall out of the funnel, so you can focus on the leads that matter. She discusses the priorities of managing a sales funnel, such as closing ready-to-buy clients first, prospecting for new leads, qualifying new leads, and developing solutions. Liz advises tracking leads, opportunities or deals in a CRM or spreadsheet, and mapping the sales process to the buying process, rather than following a fixed process based on stages. By doing so, salespeople can stay focused on the right priorities and effectively manage their sales funnel. She recommends using Gardner's infographic on the real sales process to understand how the buying process works. This episode is a must listen if you are looking to build an effective sales strategy and sales funnel that keeps your sales team busy. If you're an entrepreneur looking to fill your calendar with more sales meetings & close more leads, you won't want to miss this. Episode Highlights 03:22 - If you don't put stuff in the top of the funnel, there's not going to be anything to come out in six months. So if I am tracking my leads, my opportunities, or my deals, either in a spreadsheet or in my CRM, then I ought to be able to look at it and go, yep, I need 20 things to come out the bottom. I got 200 things in the top of the funnel and I'm moving them through slowly. And I know this one's going to close in six months and this one's going to close in nine months and that one's going to close in twelve months. Right. So that we're actually mapping their journey through our sales process or through our funnel as they're making buying decisions. So that's what I would teach you, and I would teach you to set process up based on stages, not activities. 23 Oct 2023 | Ep 378: Guide to Generating Quality Referrals with Stacey Brown Randall | 00:05:14
Stacey Brown Randall unravels the prevailing myths surrounding referrals that many entrepreneurs and business owners often fall victim to. Through extensive research and hands-on experience, she has uncovered the underlying scientific principles that truly drive successful referral generation. Contrary to popular belief, relying solely on delivering excellent work or directly asking for referrals may not yield consistent results. Stacey's findings emphasize the need for a customized, adaptable approach tailored to each unique business. What's more, her discoveries have shattered the notion that referral success hinges on specific personality traits or industry types. Join us in this enlightening discussion and unlock the secrets to building a robust referral network, regardless of your business background or personal disposition. Tune in now to revolutionize your approach to referrals and watch your business thrive! Episode Highlight: 03:42 - When we ask people for referrals, we're actually violating the science, which is why people run away from us when they see us coming at networking groups. Like, "Oh, I don't want to be that person." And when we just wait for it to happen, we're using hope as a strategy. Hope is a beautiful thing, but it is not a business strategy. And so these things we've been told, they violate the science behind what makes referrals actually happen, and it was just me figuring it out and uncovering that. And to be honest, it was over time that I was teaching it to my clients, that I was like, "Oh, yes, that is working." It's not a fluke. It's not my personality. It's not that this just works for business coaches. It's not that this just works for extroverts who have as much energy as I have. It's not about being female. It's not about being younger. I like to think of myself as younger and probably considered older, but whatever. It's not about those pieces to generate referrals. And so, when I could eliminate all the things that made it about me, and then I could have people who are very different from me in very different industries with different genders, and different extroverts versus introverts, and it worked for all of them, then I was like, "Okay, it's just a strategy." 05 Jan 2023 | Ep 253: Engineering a Business Out of Passion with Mitchelle Lyle | 00:33:39
In this episode, Elzie interviews Mitchelle Lyle, the Founder of International Travel Assistance, an Industrial and Systems Engineer graduate from University of Wisconsin-Madison, and a member of the National Society of Black Engineers. They discuss how having an engineer's mindset by doing things differently and analytically helps her manage all of the changes that come along with differences from various personalities and contexts. Mitchelle believes that being introspective and self-aware is essential to becoming a business owner. She has found that these skills make a significant difference when she's faced with difficulties in running her business since these self-reflective practices lend insight into how to navigate challenging moments thoughtfully, objectively, and resourcefully. When asked about the most important business lesson, Mitchelle says believing in your vision, especially when talking to people is the key to having a successful business. What objectives you plan to achieve will not only influence peers and partners but may also support and facilitate realistic growth. Listen to learn about the importance of trusting your instincts even in the face of doubt. Episode Highlights 04:57 - So, one of my first learnings or challenges for myself was to go out every weekend and speak to three people. And even though I loved my routine of going to get me some sushi and a bottle of wine and my movies and just chill out, I also needed to explore the new space I was in. 12:59 - It was those few things like in that one where I said, "I'm not apologizing." I will go through this thing. I get it. I will hear you out. I will explain my perspective, but I will not apologize to you because that is what I'm going to hold on to out of this. 14:27 - No one even asked questions because I shadowed for a while. They don't even acknowledge these other things. Let's make this clean and concise was my goal. 15:42 - I think just weighing out the options, like I just knew I wasn't on the winning side. So, how can I best win holistically if I'm looking at the bigger picture. 17:56 - I think one of the things that I was made aware of with my family and like my mom, just not being shy with understanding what it means to be a black woman in America and what comes with that, having pride in that, as well as understanding there will be challenges and also, recognizing in my field. 21:45 - My mom, my sisters and my aunt have always been there to be an encouragement me, to support, and really help me, especially in those tough times, and remind me who I am so that I can get back in there when I feel a bit defeated. 25:27 - I think about the training that I need to do to win. I think about the practice that I need to put in. I think about other advantages that I need to just expose myself to. And I study myself and other people who are definitely winning in that space and seeing what they're doing. 26:45 - My processes to building my business is definitely from an engineer's mindset. All of the analytics that I've collected and the way I roll out different programs. All of those things are very structured. 30:52 - To get to another level, there's more learning. I need to create another version of Mitchelle to do things as best as possible. 31:45 - Sticking to what your vision is and being okay with all the opinions that are coming. Connect with Elzie
18 Jan 2024 | 417: From Jack of All Trades to Master of One with Jamar Jones | 00:03:22
Elzie extracts a crucial business lesson from Jamar Jones - the art of niche specialization. Jamar candidly shares insights from his journey with Foureva Media, cautioning against the pitfalls of being a "Jack of All Trades." Jamar emphasizes the need to resist distractions, especially the allure of "shiny things," and the company's struggle during a period of refocusing. The key takeaway: focus on what works and, most importantly, what you're great at. Join Elzie and Jamar as they underscore the importance of niching down, carving your unique space, and, ultimately, maximizing your revenue. Don't miss this micro-episode for a swift dose of entrepreneurial wisdom! Episode Highlight: 00:36 - You've got to niche down and create focus. So, one of the problems with Foureva Media is that we're doing a lot of stuff. And I just had a guy yesterday, he's like, "Dude. So, when I met you about nine months ago, we had a conversation. You told me about what you did, then I started following you." And so I met him. Then it's been nine months later, I met him yesterday and he's like, "I don't think you do the same thing. Did you pivot your business? Like, what happened?" And it's because we're doing so much. We got a podcast. I'm speaking. I have my book. We do events. We help organizations with branding and marketing strategies. We're doing video content. We're doing social. There's just a lot of areas that we're doing, and then we have a lot of nonprofit engagements and we're doing a lot of stuff. And so, I would say before you spread yourself too thin, focus on what works. Just really dive into it. And then once that really gets cranking where it's a system and you understand, you can actually do projections on the profitability and you can really say, "Okay, this is going to scale." That's another thing. Work on what's going to scale.
