Hey Bee, hey Haydn are we there yet? Well, guess what kids??? We have finally arrived. After 55 episodes in the vault, we gladly say the stakes have been raised with the one and only Tim Farriss joining the INXS: Access all Areas community.
We go way back to the early days when music found its way into his life, the inspirations that drove him to lead INXS from obscurity to superstardom. Tim is most revealing, generous, and passionate in sharing a plethora of experiences that we cannot wait for you to hear.
So kick back (pardon the pun) with a friend, family member, or mate and revel in the greatness of Tim W Farriss!

26 Mar 2023 | Epi 143: Elegantly Wasted Reviews REVIEWED! | 01:02:14
As we wrap up our 5-episode deep dive on Elegantly Wasted, we take the unique step of going back to 1997 and beyond and assess the album reviews. Often critical and commercial success are mutually exclusive; however, we place a lens on which reviews actually review the songs and which are only interested in the theatrics that surrounded Michael during this turbulent period.
Bee and I literally read out over 15 reviews, with many favorable in their assessment of the album and some less so. It’s rare to hold reviewers and critics to account, and it was fascinating seeing how peripheral some of these “self-proclaimed” know-it-alls failed in the core task of examining the songs vs the optics.
Nineteen ninety-seven was a tragic year for the band with Michael’s passing. But, as Tim Peacock from Undercover Music so eloquently explains in his April 2022 re-review some 25 years later, we now have clean air to appreciate and view the songs for what they were: lyrically potent, musically challenging, and melodically excellent.
So, buckle up as we put to rest INXS’ last studio album as an original six-piece, “Elegantly Wasted”—which was “Better than Oasis”!
Love and Peace ✌️
Haydn

14 Jul 2024 | Epi 190 : The Switch Album Review Side 1 | 01:24:05
With INXS refreshed and revitalized post Rock Star INXS, the band entered the Westlake Studios in Los Angeles, California. With a brand new front man, JD Fortune to record and mix their 11th studio release aptly named Switch, further mixing was completed both at MixStar Studios at Virginia Beach, Virginia and Sphere Studios in London, UK. Nearly 8.5 years since their final recording with Michael Hutchence on Elegantly Wasted, the band wasted no time between September-November 2005 laying down 11 tracks that would represent the dawn of a new era for the band and be the precursor to a World Tour in 2006. Produced by Guy Chambers, formerly with World Party and main Co-Writer with Robbie Williams, he and Andrew Farriss were able to unite and combine for an album that sounded fresh, vital, progressive but with that typical INXS DNA underpinning its sound and sonics. Today, we examine Side One’s 5 tracks spearheaded by the international hits that were Pretty Vegas and Afterglow whilst also discussing the narrative, expectations and experiences of other rock bands that have lost front man over their careers whether it be by departure or unfortunate passing. So as the famous line from George Michael’s second album denoted, “listen without prejudice” and revel in a time when INXS challenged themselves, the critics and the wider fan base with a new singer, sound and a bunch of songs that heralded a new era for them! 07 Mar 2021 | Epi 43: ’What goes on Tour stays on Tour!’ with Guest Sean Dickson and a Tribute to Michael Gudinski | 01:29:20
Before a rock group can become the main concert act, you need to pay your dues as a support band. INXS definitely did this in the early days supporting iconic acts in the day such as Midnight Oil and famously Queen and Adam and the Ants. In the Summer of 1991, it was INXS’ turn to return the favor to one of Britain’s most in-demand and highly regarded acts “The Soup Dragons”. When asked to join the INXS X Factor tour, the Soup Dragons got a taste of leaving the clubs/pubs and plying their craft in huge stadiums. With unique incites and anecdotes about their time with one of the world's biggest bands finally conquering the UK and Europe, we also get to live the actual experience through lead singer Sean Dickson. Prepare to lose yourself the story of a and enjoy a great emerging band, hanging out with an iconic group, from somebody uniquely placed to comment. “We also recognize and pay homage to the life and contribution to the music of Music Mogul Michael Gudinski who sadly passed away March 2nd.” Sean Dickson's latest record with his new project McHifi https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GlVgpu7DNew This week's episode is sponsored by Tilly&Wilbur Expressive Wear. 28 Feb 2022 | Epi 94: INXS Song Deep Dive: The One Thing | 00:30:01
Episode 94: INXS Song Deep Dive: The One Thing
Second up in our celebration of INXS song week is 1982’s The One Thing, a track that might be argued was the most significant musical leap and audience reaching of their careers. With shrewd management by Chris Murphy, INXS had Mark Opitz now at the helm who had the ability to bring out that “big INXS sound” for the first time.
With their first top 15 hits in Australia roaring through the airwaves, it set up Shabooh Shoobah for 12 months of Top 40 occupation and 3 subsequent strong singles. But most importantly, it crossed over into the fickle MTV and Billboard landscape by becoming a Top 30 hit Stateside. The rest, they say, is history so sit back and reminisce the greatness of The One Thing that 40 years later, still sounds fresh and vital. 31 Mar 2023 | Epi 144: From AC/DC to INXS/ Interview with Michael Browning | 01:13:03
Michael Browning is a seminal giant in the Australian and worldwide music and entertainment business, having been at the forefront and emergence of two of the world's biggest bands—namely AC/DC and INXS. Originating from the fast Melbourne music scene at only 19 years of age, Michael carved a pathway and stepping stone for others to emulate.
From his beginnings as a nightclub owner to a talent booking agent to band management, record label creator/owner, to the author, Michael has seen and experienced a life many would envy. These days he consults and still passes on life and business lessons to new and emerging projects and acts.
But it’s this podcast that we compare and contrast the two careers of AC/DC and INXS through the lens of Michael Browning, who was the lifeline and managerial presence. It was he who gave these famous bands the very chance to rise from their humble beginnings of gigging, writing, and recording to eventually conquer the globe.
With fascinating insights, anecdotes, and stories from a time and place, sit back and embrace the Michael Browning story!

21 Nov 2021 | Epi 79: Michael Hutchence ‘Always in our Hearts” November 22 | 00:48:57
It’s that time of year again where November 22nd hits our calendars. Originally synonymous with the date that JFK was assassinated in Dallas in 1963. It’s now synonymous with the INXS and wider music industry as the day we lost Michael Hutchence. As mentioned by Andrew Farriss in our recent deep dive interview, let’s try and use this day, not just in solemnity but also as an acknowledgment of the massive contribution Michael made as a singer, a songwriter, a band member, a brother, and as a son. So into today's episode, we bring together for the first time Michael’s peers such as Bono/U2, Michael Stipe from REM, and Simon LeBon from Duran Duran to share their admiration for Michael. But more importantly, our INXS patrons and the podcast listening community to share just what Michael meant to them. Sometimes melancholy, sometimes heartbreaking but on many occasions, truly uplifting and inspiring are the anecdotes and memories shared by our INXS alumni. Michael Kelland Hutchence: we love you, we miss you but most importantly you did matter and you are in our hearts forever! 25 Sep 2021 | Epi 70: Kirk Pengilly Interview Part 1/3 | 01:19:55
Episode 70: Kirk Pengilly Interview Part 1
It’s with true joy that Bee and I welcome the inimitable Kirk Pengilly to INXS: Access All Areas for what truly is a deep dive into INXS’ hardest working and versatile band member. Erudite, articulate, and with a faultless memory for detail, listeners shall be in-store for a unique trip down memory lane.
With no topics off-limit, Kirk recounts those critical early days where he moved interstate and skipped a grade thus famously meeting Tim Farriss in science class. A sliding doors moment that led to millions of peoples lives changing globally, with the seeds of INXS born.
Forever humble and gracious, we do reveal his iconic status in our very own “media wars” series and he naturally was a good sport about it all. So sit back, flick the Back to the Future and Oceans 11,12,13 trilogy and prepare for the first of our own “Kirk Trilogy”!!

11 Aug 2024 | Epi 193 “The Birthday Boys: Jon & Tim Farriss Top 7 Memories and Moments!” | 01:06:30
Episode 193 “The Birthday Boys: Jon Farriss & Tim Farriss Top 7 Memories and Moments!” As we pass through August 10th & 16th, it’s only appropriate that we take time out to celebrate the career and lives of the “Birthday Boys” of INXS, Jon Farriss turning 63 and Tim Farriss 67 on the latest episode of INXS: Access all Areas. Middle brother Andrew’s legendary songwriting contribution has been discussed at length but today Bee and I count down the “Farriss bookends” of Jon and Tim top 7 pivotal moments and memories that resonate in our hearts to this very day whilst leaving an indelible mark. Jon, the innovative, skilled, multi-talented and percussive heartbeat of that undefinable INXS sound who blossomed into a formidable songwriting force with such hits and classics as Disappear, Deepest Red, Melting in the Sun and The Gift amidst many. Tim, the leader, statesman, funk-meister, upbeat, personality and big picture heart of the band! INXS were more than the sum of their parts and the contributions of these two Farriss brothers cannot be underestimated in the INXS journey. So sit back, pop a cold beverage and send your birthday cheers to the much loved Jon & Tim Farriss. Love and Peace Haydn & Bee https://www.inxsaccessallareas.com/

18 Mar 2023 | Epi 142: Elegantly Wasted Recording Engineer Mike Plotnikoff, Part 2 | 01:47:25
With a massive surge in downloads for our exclusive interview with Elegantly Wasted’s Recording Engineer Mike Plotnikoff, we round off the discussion in part 2 with one of rock music’s finest producers.
Mike opens up about Michael Hutchence’s incredible talent in the studio and bears witness to how he was tracking personally and professionally in what sadly was his last 12 months. Feeling Michael’s rock star vibe and charisma, whether in the studio or socially, he compared his aura favorably with other singing icons such as Steve Tyler from Aerosmith.
Mike expands the discussion into several famous identities he has recorded with, namely Alice Cooper, Johnny Depp and Carlos Santana, plus provides unique insights into the intangible energy that permeates a great recording experience and its effect on the finished article.
With a news section longer than “War & Peace” but read out faster than Usain Bolt, we at INXS Access All Areas ensure we inform effectively without the waffle!!!
So, do yourself a favour and grab your preferred beverage and enjoy another edition of “your” favourite INXS podcast.

As we approach the 30th year since this defining and benchmark album was released, we at Access all Areas are most grateful for the time, honesty, articulation, and recounting of events by Andrew and Mark during these 3 episodes. 17 Jan 2025 | Epi 208: “Back to the Beginning with Guiness”! | 01:17:56
INXS: Access all Areas steps back into the Time Machine in this latest episode where we interview the wonderful Mal Walker from Guiness, the prequel band to INXS from the Northern Beaches of Sydney. Full of insightful anecdotes and unique moments in time, Mal recounts the early days when Tim, Kirk and Garry collaborated and set out on their musical journey with ambition, work ethic and inspiring drive. Mal shares fascinating moments when the band got to record at ABC Studios, a venue INXS would go on to use on many occasions in the future plus the crossover circumstances of another pre INXS outfit, namely Dr Dolphin. Effusive in his praise for Tim, Kirk and Garry, it came as no surprise to him to see them reach the summit of the global music scene, hence was their inner commitment to making it work. Without a hint of professional jealousy or envy, Mal shares the songs and albums INXS would go on to record & release as his desert island classics! The sense of brotherhood, respect and passion in Mal’s words resonates throughout this episode and we think this is a “not to be missed episode” where listeners can go back to a more innocent, simple but meaningful time when art, ambition and the stars aligned in a perfect way. 28 Nov 2021 | Epi 81: Michael Hutchence, My Friend | 01:07:21
Episode 81: Michael Hutchence, My Friend
Episode 81: Michael Hutchence, My Friend
In the week we remember and reminisce about the life of Michael Kelland Hutchence, it only seems appropriate that we hear from the man who arguably was closest to him from an artistic point of view, Andrew Farriss. We thank Andrew for his preparedness to be vulnerable and share intimate and revealing memories of the times he and Michael penned some of the most stunning melodies and hooks together. We cover lyrics, Michael’s cosmopolitan and cultural awareness borne out of a youth traversing many countries, and the legendary vocal duet with Jimmy Barnes on ‘Good Times’ for Australian Made. With praise for Mark Opitz production, Andrew was in awe of the gravelly vocal of Barnesy offset by the honey dripped delivery from Michael as they essentially compete in a “song-off”! The pride Andrew has in recounting Michael’s mastery is heart-warming and indicates the massive respect he has 24 years after he left us. Interestingly, Andrew veers into a fascinating discussion about INXS’ travails in Argentina not long after the end of the Falklands War and takes immense pride in INXS being the first international band to tour there thus paving the way for others to follow. He delves deep on Beck, the technology debate modern music faces against traditional instrumentation, and the importance of INXS of mattering musically to Michael and the band. As we wrap up, we do get to the last few songs from Welcome to Wherever You Are to complete our album discussion. With Mark Opitz chipping in with valuable asides we no doubt felt a lot of love in the room for the legacy of what INXS created over 35 years and thank both Andrew and Mark for allowing us to delve deep. 11 Feb 2024 | Epi 176: “INXS face the new Millennium”! | 00:48:52
With the year 2000 upon us, the world was entering an exciting new century. Music, cinema, pop culture and the arts were evolving and INXS were starting to take bigger steps in a world without Michael Hutchence. With the dust settling on Michael’s posthumous album release, INXS took the left field move of signing up to the Tim Rice Spectacular Concert Series through Australia. Joining recognized artists such as Iva Davies (Icehouse), David Essex (Rock On) and a bevy of renowned Australian artists re-interpreting Tim’s amazing back catalogue of songs. With confidence slowly returning as an entity, the band continued to surprise teaming up with Jon Stevens (formerly Noiseworks) for two impromptu but sold out gigs in Melbourne and Sydney. With fans traveling as far as Chicago and the UK to attend these gigs, the level of passion and pride at seeing a full-set INXS gig again was palpable! Combined with some private corporate gigs, the band made their long awaited international return headlining the closing ceremony of the 2000 Olympic Games with a rollicking updated version of What you Need that had the crowd on their feet. So with small steps, INXS were getting their mojo back in a steady and incremental way against the odds. Love and peace

11 Aug 2023 | Epi 158: Part 2 “Michael’s best friend Greg Perano opens up”! | 00:50:50
Hear Stories that you haven't heard before...
INXS Access All Areas doubles down with the coda episode of ex-Hunters Collectors and best friend Greg Perano diving deep into his longtime friendship with kindred spirit Michael Hutchence.
With a friendship dating back to pre-stardom INXS and the superstar status of Michael Hutchence, Greg fondly takes us back to a time and journey when true friendship was based on care, loyalty, mutual respect and plenty of scallywag moments between twenty-somethings then continued into the thirty-somethings.
Michael’s love for true company from true hearts is never more apparent on this episode as we hear how Greg would get a late night call saying, “Come to Paris. A flight has been booked for you, Greg!” Or how Michael would always look out for those close or afar to ensure they were made to feel comfortable in his presence.
The true notion of Australian mateship and brethren connections are wholeheartedly felt with every noun, verb and adjective when enunciated by Greg. Plus, we have a real intro and outro song treat that we’ve never done before in 157 episodes.
So, sit back, grab a tasty beverage, a tissue or two plus your best headphones and relive one of life’s great friendships, audio-style!

28 Feb 2021 | Epi 42: Mark Optiz Part 2 | 02:02:49
“Sophisto Punk” you say Mr Opitz? A phrase born out from the early days recording The Angels at Alberts. More than just a pun or fancy combining of nouns and adjectives. It represented a sound, a mood and a standard that artists working with Mark would embrace.
It’s his musical DNA that would elicit such great relationships with bands like INXS, Cold Chisel, The Models and AC/DC to name but a few. If Ted Albert and Vanda & Young were The Godfather’s of an emerging Australian music scene, Mark Opitz was proof of their legacy. #inxs #inxsmusic #inxsfans #bobdylan #acdc #kissarmy
So lounge back and digest Part 2 of this deep dive into the legend that is Mark Opitz.

23 Aug 2020 | Epi 16: The Richard Simpkin Interview. | 01:21:09
Well, who would have thought a chance decision to visit The Sebel Townhouse Hotel in Sydney Australia in the Summer of 1989 as a 15-year-old would have led to such a chance interaction with Australia’s most famous sextet and a band of brothers. But this is exactly what happened to Richard Simpkin that lead to lifelong friendships with members of INXS and their entourage, private access to the X album recording sessions, and the rare opportunity to get unique footage of the band in their most natural of environments: the studio. So strap yourself in for this amazing two-part interview where we delve deep into an experience that truly resembles the “Almost Famous” movie and get insights that no other person on the planet would have. 07 Jul 2024 | Epi 189: INXS Hooks Everywhere! | 01:20:28
In the latest episode of INXS: Access all Areas, Bee and I get back to musical basics and compare and contrast our individual top 10 sublime INXS hook moments that leap out of the speakers and hit our collective hearts with passion and purpose.
What is a hook, I can hear you say? A hook is a musical idea, often a short riff, passage or phrase, that is used in music to make a song appealing and to catch the ear of the listener. With over 250 songs recorded, narrowing down a list to only 10 each was a daunting task. That aside, our final lists unearth some interesting gems, deep cuts, predictable favourites and a few unexpected left turns making the whole exercise, a fun and rewarding experience. With a jam packed news, an ode to birthday boy Kirk Pengilly and some new competitions launched, we urge you to tune in to your only 100% weekly dedicated INXS podcast!
If you have been enjoying the show and would like to help support us, then for the price of a cup of coffee ( Bee likes a Mocca hehe) you can support us by either donationing or becoming a subscriber ( you can cancel, pause, decrease or increase, at anytime. 20 Sep 2020 | Epi 20: The Tim Farriss Deep Dive | 01:16:39
Big brother, bandleader, bloody good guitarist!!! Timothy William Farriss could not only interpret the wonderful riffs and funk that little brother Andrew wrote but was the truly ambitious visionary for “how far” this little band, out of the northern beaches of Sydney, could take it!
Forming INXS on the day Elvis died on August 16th, 1977, Tim’s distinctive guitar style and musical talent also required him to manage the band in their early days. Averting many a crisis, Tim remained resolute in his belief and quest that the original Farriss Brothers and soon to be called INXS, could take it from the sweaty pubs of Australia to the recording studio and overseas.
So please buckle up as we celebrate, reminisce, and dive deep into one of INXS’s most popular members as we acknowledge the contribution of (play the f..... riff) Tim Farriss.

29 Jul 2023 | Epi 156: Michael Hutchence’s Last Interview with Famed Aussie Journalist, Nui Te Koha | 01:12:20
Only 4 days before the legendary Australian frontman for INXS took his own life, he conducted his final interview with an emerging writer and journalist for the Herald Sun newspaper, Nui Te Koha.
Before boarding a flight from Los Angeles to his native hometown of Sydney, Michael carved a far different portrait as a man than the one Nui interviewed some 4 years earlier—all on the backend of some scathing personal and professional attacks from Fleet Street’s finest (not)!
Nui captured a Michael who was raw, vulnerable and self-reflective against the initial expectations that it would be a shameless upcoming-tour-promotional puff piece.
Contemplative, honest and somewhat melancholic, Nui captured publicly the true inner feelings Michael was possessing at a time when the “tall poppy syndrome” against the band was at its peak.
We are fortunate enough for Nui to read out the quoted words of Michael, and they’re delivered with heartfelt pathos and pain. Please, if you’re feeling vulnerable and low after listening to this interview, reach out to loved ones and professionals who can help. I’m sure Michael would want that.
Its a goodbye from me
and its agoodbye from Bee, goodbye everybody see you next week.

03 Mar 2024 | Epi 178: Mark Pellington Part 2 'The Phone Call' | 01:14:58
INXS: Access all Areas listeners were given a unique treat last week that being Part One of Mark Pellington whose industry credits go far beyond the Beautiful Girl video. Left with a cliffhanger as Mark escalated his frustration upon hearing INXS were not in fact, in the Rock Hall of Fame, we share in Part two’s deep dive what that phone call entailed! Additionally, Mark opens up about how a personal family tragedy informed his artistic expression particularly in the year new millennium as he was increasingly chased by emerging artists such as The Fray, Keane, Kings of Leon, The Flaming Lips and The Dave Matthews Band. We get to hear Mark’s interesting foray into acting much at the behest of iconic filmmaker Cameron Crowe (eg. Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Jerry Maguire and Almost Famous). Plus continued admiration for the musicianship and excellence of INXS and how working with true superstars such as Michael Hutchence and Bono affected Mark as a Director. All that and a whole lot more as we for the rarest of times, welcome a secret third wheel to the hosting duties all the way from Ottawa Canada! 28 Jan 2023 | Epi 136: Garry Gary Beers Interview Part 1 | 01:16:37
It’s with great pleasure that INXS Access All Areas welcomes to the podcast founding bass player and inimitable groove merchant Garry Gary Beers. Based in Los Angeles for over a decade, Garry formed a tour-de-force sound, particularly with Jon Farriss.
Part One dives deep into the early days when he met other future band partners, his many musical influences and non-INXS activities, such as setting up the legendary Mangrove Studios for other burgeoning artists like Silverchair to come and record at.
Still deeply passionate about his craft, Garry shares some fascinating insights into his new bass guitar design, construction, and marketing of this unique guitar business. Forever frank, open, and giving, we hope you enjoy this rare episode where we pick the brains of a key cog in the INXS machine.
Love and Peace ✌️

Ok, INXS progressives! It’s now time to argue your case for the truly global years of 1987-1997 with strong opinions, facts, anecdotes, and passion as to why this era truly resonates with you.
We are pleased to invite long-term contributors such as Chicago’s finest Laurie Alfaro, Aussie Regional outback hotelier Darren Jones, and our Queen of the INXS Fandom Mary Woods to state their case with no fear or favour.
With the chance to rebut and rebuke last week’s episode debaters, the team surely gives a great fist of things along with Glenn Hoffman, who tweets a War & Peace riposte to those so-called “regressive fans”!
Anyway, all is discussed with total INXS love and no nasty cancel culture put-downs, and sets us up nicely as we enter the latter years of our INXS deep-dive narrative.

05 Jun 2022 | Epi 107: Michael Hutchence’s Most Primal Moments, Part 1: The List | 00:59:46
The great Michael Hutchence is regularly eulogised as the “last great rock star”! Adjectives such as charismatic, sinewy, smouldering, spellbinding, and magnetic described Michael’s limitless appeal.
So, today’s much overdue episode is for you, the fans, as Bee and I interact on what your favourite Michael Hutchence primal moments were and still are. With hundreds of submissions flooding in via all of our digital platforms, we read out as many as we can and nostalgically remember the joy Michael brought to your lives.
Excitingly, this is the first of two parts, as we shall prune this list down to your Top 10 moments for next week’s episode. So, sit back on the bed, close your eyes, put the earbuds in, and fantastically fantasize about the man, the mystery, the maestro, and the master of earball and eyeball seduction that was Michael Kelland Hutchence.

14 Jul 2024 | Epi 190: The Switch Album; Review SIDE 1 / Teaser 11mins | 00:31:14
11 Sep 2022 | Ep 119: ’Heaven Sent’ The Maxi Single Review | 01:04:46
As we acknowledge the passing of Queen Elizabeth II, it’s somewhat appropriate that we dive deep on what many consider the greatest CD Maxi Single in INXS’ catalogue: “Heaven Sent”.
With the early 1990’s signifying a real musical shift, INXS spearheaded their seminal Welcome to Wherever You Are with this four-to-the-floor rock stomper that surprisingly started off as a country-tinged ballad.
Including the bonus tracks “It Ain’t Easy”, “11th Revolution”, “Deepest Red” and the gliding version of “Heaven Sent”, INXS Access All Areas explores this exciting period in 1992 when bands took great risks with their releases.
So, as we enjoy getting all musical again, sit back and enjoy what kicked off an exciting new period of experimentation for the great INXS.
Love and peace ✌️

11 Jan 2025 | Epi 207: “Top 10 INXS Cool moments in time”! | 00:50:47
As we welcome in 2025, Bee and I get back to basics where we deep dive into our own individual top 10 “cool INXS moments” where the band set the trend, walked between the raindrops and reigned supreme with sauntering swagger! In popular culture, there is often a time when an artist, actor, athlete or celebrity icon trailblaze their way into our hearts and minds inspiring aspiration and emulation. Throughout INXS’ career such moments were omni present with Michael and the band carving a sleek, slick & cool veneer underpinned with genuine substance and specialness often raising the bar for their contemporaries and emerging acts. So with zero crossover between Bee and I cover a gamut of moments in time when INXS traversed gimmicky trends and artists but rather, set the cultural rock star zeitgeist in their own individual, creative and time honoured way. With a freshly updated news section and hints of forthcoming episodes revealed, buckle up, undust your blue tooth and earbuds and enjoy the first episode of INXS: Access all Areas for 2025!!! 02 Aug 2020 | Epi 13: The Swing- Album review | 01:29:26
1984 was the year INXS leapt from promising brash prodigies to international recording players. The Swing undertook the genius production values of Nile Rodgers and Nick Launay and saw the band stretch their sound with the addition of funk, orchestral flourishes and salsa rhythms that had fans heading straight to the dancefloor. With no song sounding similar to another, the band’s musical leap was full of daring, unique creativity and unabashed charm. With many contributions from all of the band members, INXS had never been this exciting and stole the hearts and minds of the Australian record-buying public with 4 strong singles: Original Sin, I send a message, Burn for you and Dancing on the Jetty plus the addition of many great album tracks that pervaded the Australasian sound waves over 1984-85.
So check this fantastic deep dive into all things related to The Swing and reminisce and bask in what was INXS’ classic magnus opus.

22 Jul 2023 | Epi 155: The Making of the Elegantly Wasted Video | 00:57:52
As we tie our final bow on what was 1997’s Elegantly Wasted album release, we are delighted to be joined by video producer of the title track and first single release, the fantastic Bruce Haymer-Coleman.
Having worked with other artists including Elton John, Depeche Mode, Donna Summer and The Cranberries, Bruce coordinated at very short notice the shoot for “Elegantly Wasted” in Los Angeles with only 4 days before the band were committed to flying to the UK. Creating the airport scene from scratch, the production of the set came together with urgency and expertise with a budget “INXS” (😜) of $150,000 in costs, but it shows in the ultimate release.
A prolific video producer at the time, Bruce would often create 4-6 videos per month with a prior grounding working with famed directors George Lucas, Ridley Scott, David Fincher and Gore Verbinski—only proving that INXS were incredibly smart as to who they trusted turning their words and melodies into pictures!
So, buckle up and sit back and hear from another major player in the music scene who loved working with the band and whose favourite track of theirs was “Devil Inside”! Tribute track, perhaps? Make sure you listen to the end!

12 Jun 2023 | Epi 151: 40th Anniversary of US Festival, We Remember! | 01:09:15
Memorial Day weekend 1983 was the second coming of the US Festival in Southern California, the brainchild of Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak who, after 1982’s test run, continued the mission of creating a community event combining technology with rock.
With a 4-day festival over 7 days, the format commenced on Friday with the “new wave” acts as a theme. Australia was highly represented with The Divinyls, Men at Work and our very own INXS. Saturday was “heavy metal day” with Van Halen and Ozzie Osbourne spearheading, and Sunday “rock day” with a young U2 and Stevie Nicks paving the way for the main act David Bowie. The following Sunday concluded the event with Country Day.
The importance of this event cannot be underestimated in inspiring future festivals such as Lollapalooza and Coachella, with over 1,100,000 fans attending these 1982/83 shows despite the collective apprehension after the infamous Altamont gig and Woodstock events some 15 years earlier.
Despite losing millions of dollars, the US Festival gigs of 1982 and 1983 represented a true zeitgeist moment in time and created fan and artist experiences that are still eulogized 40 years later. Importantly for INXS, the festival represented a pivotal confidence boost where they went from the pubs & club gigs of 1000 people to 180,000 at said Festival.
With Mark Opitz recently remastering INXS’ 9-song setlist performance, we urge you to check that out, plus sit back and dive deep into this nostalgic retrospective of an event that’s still admired 40 years later.

04 Sep 2023 | Epi 160: Michael Hutchence, The “Quiet Activist” with Paulie Stewart | 01:10:25
It was cool in the 1980s as a rock star to loudly proclaim and attach yourself to worthy causes—think Sting (Brazilian rain forests, Russian leaders), Little Stevie (Artists Against Apartheid) and Bono/U2 (Chile, Ireland, drugs, September 11, Greenpeace, and the vegan hippos of Botswana North, East and South 😜).
Less virtue-signalling were INXS, who quietly attached themselves to the people of Kuwait, the anti-nuclear movement, and Amnesty International. What was even less known publicly were the efforts of Michael Hutchence, whose links to the East Timorese/Indonesian incursion were done with sincerity, true altruism, and often, anonymity.
Today we are joined by Paulie Stewart, founder of seminal Melbourne 80’s band The Painters and Dockers. With links to the East Timorese conflict in 1975, the Indonesian invasion changed him and his family’s lives forever with the tragic killing of his brother and four other journalists, known as the Balibo Five. This undeniable atrocity led to Michael and Paulie creating a true kinship to the cause that Paulie recounts for us.
We also have time for levity as we share the Painters and Dockers’ unique story and ascent to being inducted into the Victorian Music Hall of Fame. Forever quirky, subversive, effervescent, and challenging to society’s status quo, the Dockers are a true national treasure.
So, sit back and savour the warm, giving, and generous words of Paulie Stewart in this unique episode of INXS Access All Areas.

16 Oct 2021 | Epi 73: The Concert for LIFE!!!! (not strife) | 01:08:49
The Concert for LIFE!!!! (not strife) March 28th, 1992 was a pivotal day in the career of INXS. With the tragic 1991 murder of groundbreaking doctor Victor Chang, the former Head of St Vincents Hospital in Sydney, the band spearheaded the Centennial Park gig with all profits going to the newly set up charity. With a huge local support artist list including Jenny Morris, Richard Clapton, Baby Animals, and Crowded House, over 70,000+ fans turned up to cheer away in what was uniquely a nonalcoholic gig and fairly priced at $21/head. Opening up with the never heard before “Heaven Sent”, the band unearthed 4 new tracks from the forthcoming Welcome to Wherever you Are album. Michael preening across the stage in his magnificent white “Elvis Esque” jumpsuit, he had all of the fans in the palm of his hand. Unfortunately, the concert is more remembered for backstage fighting amongst the “suits” with infamous stories leaked to a bloodthirsty press looking for titillation versus altruism. The subsequent media backlash directed towards the band was felt for many years to follow and unfortunately sullied or drowned out all of the artistic merits of subsequent INXS releases. Today the true facts are told as we remove the specter of gossip and gloss loss and celebrate the purity of what was “The Concert for LIFE”! 22 Feb 2023 | Epi 139: Elegantly Wasted: Side 1 | 01:16:04
After much patience and time, we finally get to dive deep with our album review and a broader discussion on INXS’ 1997 Elegantly Wasted, recorded in Vancouver/Dublin by the late Bruce Fairbairn. Having enjoyed the longest recording hiatus of their career since 1993’s underrated Full Moon Dirty Hearts, the band returned with a vibrant, more accessible, and lyrically heartfelt album that has grown in appreciation with time.
With 11, 12, and 13 tracks released in different formats for different regions, Michael and Andrew seem refreshed and reignited in their endeavors with songs that explore a range of musical sonics and styles but still remain quintessentially INXS. No mean feat that!!!
Bee and I go through Side One with both a 1997 and 2023 lens to see if it still stacks up musically. For now, sit back and enjoy what was Michael’s final musical contribution to the INXS legacy. Enjoy.
Love and peace ✌️ Haydn

03 Oct 2020 | Epi 22: The Australian Made | 01:07:38
Join us as we celebrate all things Australia particularly the “Australian Made” tour of 1986/87. On the verge of international domination, this concert series took place in 6 cities over 4 weeks with an array of Australia’s best talent supporting INXS in front of sellout crowds in the sweltering heat.
With Mystify played live for the very first time the pre-release of KICK, this concert series gave INXS the impetus and platform to hone their song-craft and prepare for what was to be their most important year so far.
Inspiring many of their Australian peers, Australian Made was a pioneering concert festival experience that would lead to “The Big Day Out” juggernaut and inspire local bands to believe they were just as good as their international contemporaries.
Enjoy.

22 Nov 2023 | Epi 168: R.I.P Michael Hutchence 22/11/1997 | 01:29:07
It’s that unfortunate time of the year where we pause, commiserate and commemorate the passing of Michael Kelland Hutchence. Iconic singer, loyal band mate, friend, father and idol to many.
Unlike other years, our anthology podcast has caught up with the 1997 period and as difficult as it is for us and our loyal listeners, we need to recount the events that preceded and proceeded that fateful day.
We do so with compassion, earnestness, regret and heartfelt sadness, but importantly stay on point with facts not solacious innuendo or clickbait. Importantly, we release this episode on the exact day some 26 years later and hope that talking about Michael’s loss does some good for those struggling to reconcile this tragic event.
There weren’t many men's support initiatives or mental health awareness and wellbeing programs back in 1997. So we hope that for anyone struggling in their own day to day world, you seek the necessary assistance.

11 Nov 2023 | Epi 167: The Nile Rodger’s Deep Dive | 00:57:51
Having spoken with Hall of Famer, Nile Rodgers last week, we are pleased to examine the career legacy, influence on generations of artists and the technical prowess that is funk/dance music.
Harking back to James Brown, George Clinton’s Funkadelic and Sly and The Family Stone, Nile and Chic took the baton in 1977 and created a soundscape that inspired hundreds of artists most notably “our INXS”!
We get to hear some fascinating “time and place” anecdotes from Darryl Hall, Tim Farriss, Michael Hutchence and Jon Farriss in working with Nile Rodgers combined with the huge respect that Nile had for the drumming exploits of Jon Farriss. And with the power of You Tube, we might even have a unique song opening to episode 167 with the band warming up to an obscure Nile solo song: Yum Yum!!
So sit back, pour a drink of your favourite poison and embrace the genius that is Nile Rodgers Part 2!

With excerpts from interviews including Jon Stewart and Rosie O’Donnell, we hear a band enjoying being back on stage together making vital and meaningful music. We also may get an answer from Michael Hutchence himself regarding the rumoured “better than Oasis” refrain that did the rounds during the band’s globetrotting endeavours.
Excitedly, INXS Access All Areas gets all retro with the “Return of the Rant” and Bee’s 1997 “Pleasure and Pain” which has 90% bangers and only 10% clunkers! Additionally, we present an early news section with some genuine newsworthy nuggets.

With our first two episodes in the can, INXS: Access all Areas decides to dive deep and attempt to “define the undefinable” that being what was INXS. A band of many styles, influences, and sounds that simply couldn’t be pigeonholed by the critics and wider media. With their broad abilities to play many genres such as funk, rock, dance, ska, soul, and R&B, we celebrate and acknowledge all these particular sounds in their repertoire. Plus we launch the exciting new segment “Pleasure and Pain” whereby Bee and I travel back to 1977 and see if the sounds of our youth still connect in 2020. So buckle up and continue the journey that is the only 100% weekly INXS dedicated podcast on the planet.

16 Nov 2024 | Epi 202: The INXS Miniseries Review Part 2 | 01:10:26
INXS: Access all Areas bring to you the most difficult of episodes since our Michael Hutchence funeral episode as we tackle Part Two of the Never Tear Us Apart Mini-Series circa 2014. That part of the INXS journey where Director Daina Reid tackles the wilderness years and unraveling of the band dynamic. Exhilarated but humbled by conquering the UK and European market culminating with the legendary Wembley gig in July 1991, INXS faced an undeserved and unwarranted backlash from their homeland. Episode two captures this and the ensuring dramas associated with trying to remain artistically and commercially relevant in a fast changing musical world with grunge, the Manchester scene and hip hop suddenly dominating the airwaves. This episode manages to capture a band still producing creative and daring material amidst the pressures of fame, family, relationships and Manager pressures and expectations. But with commercial appeal waning and the band members scattered throughout the globe, we get a “warts and all” account from the inside as to the difficulty many bands face when attempting to keep the machine rolling along. This episode respectfully deals with the obvious “elephant in the room” be it November 22nd, 1997 whilst criss-crossing time periods allowing the audience to appreciate the many decisions, compromises, struggles, sacrifices and commitment, INXS had to make during their career. As the show veers from re-creation into real spliced footage of the band traversing the world whist conquering countries, audiences, hearts and minds. Unabashedly and emotionally charged in more ways than one, we permit you to open up your soul and be proud of this Australian sextet who left an indelible footprint on the world. 10 Apr 2022 | Epi 101: Darren Jones’s INXS Stories Part 2 | 01:24:08
From the outset, big thanks to all of the well-wishers who made episode 100 such a beautiful experience for Bee, the team, and me. Today, we are fortunate to delve deeper with the inimitable Darren Jones, whose access, anecdotes, and involvement with INXS have few peers. We get to hear about Garry Gary Beers’ fantastic Mangrove Studios which was state-of-the-art for its time and gave back to the Australian musicians such as Silverchair, Courtney Barnett, and Sarah Blasko. Darren also shares a rare moment in Adelaide when Andrew Farriss allegedly “lost the plot” with rare anger on display. With a jam-packed news section and some exciting chart updates, we are excited to commence the next 100 episodes with a bang! So put on the EarPods, headphones or turn up the speakers in your car and enjoy Episode 101 of INXS:Access all Areas! 17 Dec 2021 | Epi 84: INXS Deep Dive Tracks: “Clarify the Spotify”! | 00:52:58
After 18 months of deep-dive album reviews, from the self-titled debut to 1992’s Welcome to Wherever You Are, Bee and I took on the exciting task of compiling a Spotify playlist of “great deep cut” tracks that were never singles around the world. These songs in many ardent INXS fans’ opinions have been cited as favourites and as such, we wanted to highlight their “awesomeness”.
More than just a singles band, INXS always treated each song’s addition to an album with the utmost diligence. No filler, all killer was often the mantra as each band member sought to contribute material over the journey.
Bee and I had the massive challenge to compile a list of great album tracks that we “both agreed on” to share with the Access all Areas community and hopefully enrich the listener experience.
So, if you’re sick of the hits, over radio’s constant flogging of the Kick album singles and want to truly appreciate the sheer depth of INXS’ back catalogue of deep cuts, tune in, get up and dance, rejoice and turn up loud some of INXS’ greatest songs not-so-well known or played on mainstream platforms.

20 Mar 2022 | Epi 99: O Canada INXS Love | 01:05:26
Episode 99: O Canada INXS Love
Much like Australia, Canada is a country of true beauty and vast landscapes. Similar to INXS’ homeland, Canada was and still is a marketplace where rabid support and loyalty to the INXS catalogue remains to this day.
In episode 99, INXS: Access All Areas pays tribute to both band and Canadian fans for their mutual love for one another as myself and Bee, dive deep into all successes and experiences that created such joint love. Singles chart success, touring, recording and interviews are all discussed and acknowledged with thoroughness and thought.
Canada may have been a slightly slower burn initially for INXS, but it’s the country where the band has had their highest amount of number one singles even exceeding their homeland. Additionally, from Vancouver to Quebec and everything in between, INXS constantly toured and supported the rabid fans' thirst for live concert touring with loyalty and gusto. So, as we prepare for Episode 100 next week, narrow your focus to this special episode that’s also dedicated to our Podcast patrons from Canada, namely Vern, Jamie, Geneviève, Heidi, Sandrine, Maïté, and Leon. ✌️ Love and peace, Haydn VINTAGE MERCH FLASH-SALE from 20the Match to 3rd April ONLY Don't miss out follow this link https://www.inxsaccessallareas.com/vintage-merch To become a Patron/ subscriber check out our different levels and see which one suits you. https://patron.podbean.com/INXSAccessAllAreas Please sign the petition at http://inductinxs.comto help get INXS nominated into the ROCK & ROLL HALL of FAME, where they belong.
21 Apr 2024 | Epi 183 “The Swing 40th Anniversary” | 01:37:18
We are privileged to be joined by patrons Darren Joseph, Brett Williams and Dr Jim along with good friend of the podcast Darren Jones, to discuss and celebrate the 40th anniversary of INXS’ commercial breakout album, The Swing! Musical tendencies and tastes often formulate during those halcyon teenage years and today’s panel deep dive into the joys of this album evoke true feelings of nostalgia, sentimentality and happiness. We discuss which songs resonated upon release in 1984 and still to this day, the importance of VHS/Video on each songs impact and the album cover/contents that were of its time. Having sold over 2,500,000 copies globally, we tackle the albums mysterious initial commercial failings in the USA market which were likely due to the albums overtly political and racially charged lyrics that stalled radio and MTV support. That aside, American fans post Kick went back and re-discovered this gem leading to platinum status accreditation and embrace songs such as Original Sin, Burn for You and I Send a Message when played “live” over the years. Having previously reviewed The Swing album in episode 13 and explored (Ep. 68, 121 and 122) with Nick Launay (Producer) and Philip Mortlock (A&R), this episode is a true joy and trip down memory lane to a time and place where INXS raised their game from underground, alternative darlings to true, versatile and musical players about to make their mark globally! 17 May 2024 | Epi 186: Welcome to Rockstar INXS | 00:45:01
Get Ready for... Episode 186: Welcome to Rockstar INXS In December 2004 INXS announced the bold move to enter the “Reality TV” world with the global media release of Rockstar INXS. A talent identification based competition filmed and released via CBS, VH1 and affiliates aiming to find INXS’ new lead singer. In this episode, we discuss the backdrop behind this announcement, the format of the show, the motivations for INXS/Management going down this pathway amidst various anecdotes from this period as we set up one of the most fascinating and risky periods of INXS’ career. As a framework setup to subsequent episodes, Rockstar INXS despite some of its critics was able to bring rock n roll and fantastic classic songs back into the mainstream audiences globally with songs from Radiohead, Pink Floyd, The Killers and many others front and center amongst the contestants. With excellent production values from the king of reality tv, Mark Burnett, credible hosting duties by Jane’s Addiction’s lead guitarist Dave Navarro and compering by the stunning Brooke Burke, Rockstar INXS managed to remind and probe older fans and new millennials what a force INXS were and could be despite the tragic loss of their original frontmen, Michael Hutchence. With Bee in the UK for 4 weeks, our team has set you some “enjoyable homework” and that being to hit up YouTube, watch all 32 episodes and relive with fresh eyes and ears plus without prejudice the drama, the twists and the turns that were Rockstar INXS. 13 Mar 2021 | Epi 44: The X Album Review. | 01:32:40
They say the hardest thing to do once you’ve climbed the peak of a mountain in a sporting or artistic sense is to stay there!
So when INXS graduated to the biggest band on the planet during 1988 and 1989, the pressure was on to surpass “Kick” with its next album. Album X as Michael Hutchence often referred to it marked a shift in songwriting, lyrical maturity, and Michael’s vocal delivery.
A front ended with the dynamic Suicide Blonde, Disappear, By my Side, and the unsurpassed The Stairs, X definitely consolidated INXS’ reputation as a band to be reckoned with.
However, 30 years later, was it the artistic statement the band wanted?
Did it play safe?
Did it achieve the intended goal of maintaining that position at the apex of the mountain?
Tune into the first of our two-part special that is Album X and “hear that sound” that was INXS 1990. #inxsmusic #inxs #inxsfans #christhomasproducer #inxsxalbum #suicideblonde #1991music #inxsxtour #inxstour

12 Feb 2022 | Epi 91: BREAKING NEWS: “Rock n Roll Hall of Fame snub leads to fan revolt”! | 01:26:32
BREAKING NEWS: “Rock n Roll Hall of Fame snub leads to fan revolt”!
In an episode not to be missed, INXS: Access all Areas brings to you this “special edition, not to be missed” episode attacking the criminal omission of INXS off the latest 17 artist ballot that was released last weekend.
With such “non-rock n roll” artists like Dionne Warwick, Dolly Parton and Lionel Richie making the ballot, this concept of recognizing this institution is sadly becoming a modern-day exercise in woke, identity politics, and rock n roll irrelevance. So, are we wrong? Are we too harsh? Are we on the money? Well, we assemble a panel of music fans and some patrons of our group namely: Dr. Jim: Melbourne Genevieve: Amsterdam Manny: Yorkshire Craig: Newcastle Laurie: Chicago to debate the list of nominees that include: Duran DuranRage Against the Machine Judas Priest Devo Eminem Beck Pat Benatar Carly Simon Eurythmics & Kate Bush Dionne WarwickDo we get a consensus? Wildly disagree? Argue yay or nay? Well, you’ll need to check in to what might just be our most volatile, contentious, and fiery podcast since we commenced in May 2021. 22 May 2022 | Epi 106: Back in Time Series: INXS, Rocking the Royals in 1985 | 01:04:41
INXS: Access All Areas has largely taken a chronological deep dive over the last two years. However, today we are taking a “Marty McFly” trip back in the “DeLorean” and breaking from convention. As such, we travel back to November 4th, 1985, when INXS led a swathe of Australian talent by headlining the Charles & Diana concert: “Rocking the Royals”.
Situated in Melbourne, Victoria, whereby the state was celebrating its 150th anniversary, The Arts Centre gig became the most hotly-contested ticket in town as 3000 lucky fans got inside the venue and 40,000 fans danced and celebrated outside with the help of some big screens.
Freshly off the release of Listen Like Thieves, INXS powered through a blistering list of songs that had Charles clicking his fingers and Diana off her chair swaying to the dulcet tones of Michael’s evocative lyrics and moves.
It’s been said that the 1991 Wembley gig was the zenith of INXS’ star. However, gigs such as the Royals gig paved the momentum and ascent necessary to climb into the international consciousness of fans, both local and afar.
So, sit back, immerse yourself in 1985, and reminisce as we take a lovingly forensic look at what was “Rocking the Royals” with INXS!!
Love and Peace ✌️

26 Feb 2022 | Epi 93: INXS Song Deep Dive: Burn For You | 00:58:03
Bee and I are about to undertake our most ambitious recording workload with 5 episodes in 5 days!!! Why? Well, it’s time to go back and celebrate 5 “turning point and pivotal songs” in the INXS catalogue that remain fan staples and permeate the sound waves globally on a daily basis.
First up, we discuss the legendary Australian charts number 3 hit “Burn for You” in all its glory, with sounds and structures reminiscent of two other tracks of its era. Added to the Live Baby Live album in 1991, “Burn for You” gained prominence, particularly in the USA when INXS conquered the land of Uncle Sam.
The first of five episodes include the usual segments such as INXS/musical news, gig updates, and fan engagement. However, episodes 2-5 on the Song deep dives shall be perfect lunch break fodder and only be 30 minutes; it’s all “chorus and no bore us”!!!!!
So, INXS fans, this week it’s all about the songs that brought invaluable joy and ear-candy pleasure, representing a more innocent and nostalgic time in our lives when things were easy.
Love and Peace ✌️

25 Jul 2021 | Epi 61: The NEW Album reviewed; including NEW INXS cover songs. | 01:35:14
For the very first time since we launched INXS: Access all Areas, we get to review a new INXS release in contemporary times. Despite being songs derived from their back catalogue, the new soundtrack Original Sin: The Seven Sins is an adventurous 13 song release. It provides listeners with 9 modern cover versions of timeless tracks whilst drawing on 4 songs from prior albums. So Bee and I take on the unique task of reviewing each track on its own merits whilst also giving due consideration as to how they shape the narrative of the movie to which they’re a companion piece. As always Bee and I shall approach this in two different ways with the usual difference of opinions forthcoming. We all appreciate and love the original versions of these songs, however, do yourself a favour and look to this album as a celebration and modern day complement to the greatness of INXS and as the guy from Wham once said: “Listen Without Prejudice”! 24 Jul 2022 | Epi 114: Scandinavian Love for INXS | 01:03:26
Truly an international band, INXS never rested on their laurels, and this was evidenced by their success in Europe's post-Kick album. With the X album and Welcome to Wherever You Are making great inroads into the Scandinavian charts, the band toured did a promo, and supported the region that laid claim to great musical pioneers like ABBA.
Melodies and rhythms transcend lyrical and language barriers and the stern hooks, melodious sounds, and sonics of INXS struck a chord then and now with the fans of Scandinavia.
So, INXS: Access All Areas once again takes you back in time and place where the band left such an indelible footprint on the musical landscape of Scandinavia. Be prepared for some ABBA tie-ins, and enjoy!
Love and Peace ✌️

13 Mar 2022 | Epi 98: R.I.P. Shane Warne, from your mates INXS,with Special Guest Tim Farriss | 01:27:57
It’s with a heavy heart that the world mourns the loss of Australia’s answer to Michael Jordan or Babe Ruth. Cricketer Shane Keith Warne (passed away on Friday, March 4th from a sudden heart attack at the age of only 52 in Thailand where he was holidaying at the time).
With 708 wickets in the difficult art of leg-spin bowling, Shane managed to make the long-forgotten art of leg-spin bowling sexy again... so much so that Elton John and Mick Jagger wanted to be him and Ed Sheeran, Roger Federer, Tiger Woods and Coldplay’s Chris Martin adored his skill and friendship.
Bold, brash, and proudly bogan (Google it), Shane lived a colorful life on and off the field, where he regularly mixed with the “big end of town and celebrities”. His love and respect for INXS and Michael Hutchence was well known and they mixed regularly when both the band and team were touring in the same city.
So, for the portion of Access All Areas of fans unfamiliar with him (particularly North America), we pay tribute in song with INXS tracks that serve as a soundtrack to his life and the perennial love we have for him in our hearts!
This episode also features an interview with Tim Farriss, paying his tribute to Shane.
R.I.P Shane. The world shall miss you. Not Enough Time.
Love and peace. ✌️

15 May 2022 | Epi 105: INXS’s Full Moon Dirty Hearts, Side 2 (with Mark Opitz) | 01:18:34
As Bee and I come to the conclusion of our five-week examination of Full Moon, Dirty Hearts, we deep dive into Side 2 tracks, namely:
7. Full Moon Dirty Hearts 8. Freedom Deep 9. Kill the Pain 10. Cut Your Roses Down 11. The Messenger & 12. Viking Juice
With further analysis by famed producer Mark Opitz, we get further insights into the melodies, songwriting, and recording techniques with precise detail.
Additionally, Bee and I get to add some interesting non-singles album tracks to our ever-growing Spotify playlist. Hint Hint: there may be a record swag of songs added!
Mark is very passionate about the sequencing and tracklisting of Full Moon, Dirty Hearts and opined that if his original list was preserved, the album may have faired differently.
Anyway, buckle up and enjoy our closing chapter of Full Moon, Dirty Hearts and do yourself a favour and listen to this long-forgotten gem.
Love and Peace ✌️

13 Dec 2020 | Epi 32: The Max Q, Part 2 Michael v Murphy | 01:31:42
They say that “art vs commerce” are often mutually exclusive...
Well in the case of MAXQ this is certainly true. Riding high on the universal love of INXS’ Kick juggernaut, Michael Hutchence and Chris Murphy were completely opposed as to what should come next. “Capitalise on INXS’ ascent into the pantheon of musical giants or allow members to recharge the batteries and pursue longstanding individual projects?”
With the latter being the chosen pathway, it leads to the ultimate collision course of ideals between Chris and Michael that affected their relationship more than some ever knew.
So get ready for this week's episode when we explore the fallout of this critically acclaimed album and its effect on INXS then going forward. Plus other exclusive interviews with people who were part of Max Q #inxs

01 Nov 2020 | Epi 26: KICK 3/3a The Nick Egan Interview | 01:38:46
Episode 26 The Nick Egan interview
Nick Egan: A true pioneer and pivotal artisan in the creative musical art scene, Nick’s greatest legacy to INXS outside his groundbreaking cover work for album Kick might be his true friendship with Michael.
Having navigated brilliant creations for artists as diverse as Bob Dylan, Iggy Pop, Duran Duran, Oasis, The Sex Pistols, Alanis Morissette, and Bow Wow Wow, Nick Egan has been a major influence on the success of many.
However, it’s his true friendship with Michael Hutchence over an 11 year period that resonates during this two-part deep dive into Nick’s career.
The most giving and honest of interviewees, Nick provides a detailed and often heartfelt account of Michael’s journey to the top and gradual decline in his last few years. But overall Nick’s loyalty for a great mate and respect for a great band shines through.
Enjoy

06 Nov 2022 | Epi 126: Jon Farriss Interview: Part One | 01:12:53
We are blessed today to have the musical genius of Jon Farriss joining INXS Access All Areas for a deep dive into his career and life post-INXS touring. “Old world, new world,” you may say. Jon is extra-giving and generous with his thoughts and insights.
Starting in reverse order, Jon shares what life in 2022 is like as he dials in from his magnificent Byron Bay outskirts estate. He discusses what music means to him circa 2022, the songs that he is most proud of from his INXS days, and the importance of a work-life balance.
Often referred to as the George Harrison of INXS, Jon provides some unique insights into the music industry and society as we “don’t” know it and does so with unyielding passion and purpose.
We are delighted to have Jon, the most reclusive member of INXS, joining our deep dive and giving you, the INXS fans a rare forum to get to know the man behind the greatness.
So, buckle up, sit back and enjoy the words and wisdom of Jon “Deepest Red” Farriss!

04 Nov 2024 | Epi 200: the INXS Mini-series Reviewed Part 1 | 01:32:59
After 4.5 years, INXS: Access all Areas reaches a special milestone of 200 episodes and what better way to celebrate than commemorate the Mini Series: Never Tear Us Apart starting with a deep dive into Part One. The episode that we coined “The Ascent” where we see the band climb from humble beginnings to the career zenith of Wembley 1991. With impeccable casting and production values from Endemol Shine Australia, this iconic mini series launched on Australian TV on Sunday February 9th, 2014 and concluded the following week on February 16th to record ratings for the Channel 7 network. Filmed in Melbourne Australia with a cast of known but not overtly famous actors, Director Daina Reid elicits heartfelt and acute performances particularly from industry veteran Damon Herriman whose portrayal of INXS Manager Chris Murphy may be the shrewdest casting in many years. With a swathe of songs representing INXS’ early career success in Australia, fans and the less initiated are taken into a heady and nostalgic period when music and gigs were the soundtrack and vehicle for youth culture and entertainment. Additionally, we get to see the work ethic, commitment and sacrifice of an emerging band who had the courage to leave the safety and earnings potential of Australian shores and “risk it all” by tackling the behemoth that was America. Inspiring, endearing, passionate and purposeful, go back and watch with fresh eyes and ears before listening to this podcast!! A big thank you to everyone that sent in their thanks to add this episode hearing From Tim and Andrew Farriss, Leigh Francis, our wonderful friends and patrons but not forgetting Nick Egan celebrating our achievements with a firework ending. We love you all. Love and peace Haydn & Bee https://www.inxsaccessallareas.com/

05 Dec 2022 | Epi 130: “Bee and Haydn on tour with Don’t Change!” | 01:20:58
In the week the world remembers Michael Hutchence 25 years after that infamous afternoon, November 22, 1997, Bee and myself join the remembrance. With the dominant Don’t Change playing the exact venue INXS we were supposed to play 25 years ago in Wollongong, many loyal patrons made it to this fantastic gig.
Blair & co. played a relentless 25-song set, barely taking a breath, with plenty of interesting song choices. We share this evening with some great interviews and footage from the Saturday night gig in question.
Then, from Sunday, we share with our listeners the wonderful experience whereby 60 loyal and nostalgic fans attended the Lamrock Cafe in Bondi where Greg Perano (Michael’s best friend) and Richard Simpkin (Michael: Life in Pictures book) hosted a heartfelt 25th-anniversary tribute on the shores of Bondi Beach.
With fans from all points of the globe, stories, photos, anecdotes, and tunes were shared amongst all with great affection and affinity for a man that still influences our lives.
So, sit back, don’t regret missing out, and be taken to this event through our heartfelt recounting of this wonderful experience.
Love and peace ✌️

17 Mar 2024 | Epi 179: Part 1; When Musicians Respect Musicians. Interview with Fun Lovin Criminals Frank Benbini | 01:02:32
INXS: Access all Areas is back with a vengeance this week with a truly original episode in two parts. Frank Benbini of the Fun Lovin Criminals joins Bee and I to discuss the profound musical influence INXS had on him and his band mates as musicians. As a hybrid musical act out of New York City, the F.L.C adopted a blended style of music prowess combining rock, blues, hip hop, dance and soul. Uncompromising, unapologetic and unmissable “live”, Frank deep dives and revels in the skill, songcraft and talent of Andrew, Tim and Jon Farriss in particular whilst sharing a chance encounter he had with Michael in 1993 England! Frank’s versatility as a musician has led to regular gigs with UB40 as a touring musician and several respected side projects such as “Uncle Frank”. This allowed Frank to make a magical recording with Sinead O’Connor before she suddenly passed. That and a jam packed news section bringing us right up to date! GREAT BRITAIN GREAT INXS: INXS was a truly international band with the sextet playing over 4000 gigs across the globe. 19 Apr 2025 | Epi 217: INXS Easter Eggs Everywhere | 00:58:09
As we wish the world a Happy Easter, we thought what better occasion for INXS: Access all Areas to deep dive on that pop culture touchstone of highlighting INXS’ very own Easter Eggs, that being the trail of cultural touchstones they have left behind over some 48 years. As with movies, books and music, artists often leave a trail and footprint in the cultural zeitgeist through multiple platforms such as movies, lyrics, sports and film clips and INXS are no different. So Bee and I have great fun in this episode locating these cool little nuggets in some obvious and obscure places. We kick things off, pardon the pun at the peak of INXS’ international fame between 1987-1990 and divert into the world of movie and TV soundtracks. We then take a left turn to sports and bring it home with something more ethereal like religion, faith and spirituality. All whilst not taking ourselves too seriously!!! So for all of you adults out there who seem to miss out on the Easter Bunny chocolate fix, sit back and get your own very dose and dollop of INXS Easter Eggs!! Love and Peace Click the link below to win a vintage copy of Listen Like Thieves, signed by Kirk and Tim. The winner will be announced at the party on The Strangest party on the 10th May. 06 Feb 2024 | Epi 175: Part 1: Alex Proyas; Kissing the Dirt and Hollywood 2024! | 01:03:01
Alex Proyas: Kissing the Dirt and Hollywood 2024! We are pleased to have famed Director and true auteur Alex Proyas on today’s episode of INXS: Access all Areas to share fascinating insights and anecdotes around the filming in Coober Pedy, South Australia of “Kiss the Dirt” video in early 1986. ARIA award nominated, this led to iconic videos for the emerging Crowded House band’s “Don’t dream it’s over” and “Better be home soon” hits that created the impetus for Alex to go overseas and pursue his ultimate passion being “feature films”. A true sci-fi disciple, Alex went onto work with famed actors Brandon Lee, William Hurt, Kiefer Sutherland, Will Smith, Chadwick Bozeman, Jennifer Connelly and Nicolas Cage in iconic productions such as The Crow, Dark City, I Robot and Gods of Egypt, Alex is a true surrealist and auteur to his craft of making meaningful and impactful cinematic art for all the right reasons. We explore the interesting parallels between both the music and film industry and how one often informs the other in good and bad ways. Passionate, purposeful and occasionally political, Alex truly opens up about a range of issues that affect the way we consume content and how things could be better, and for this, we are grateful for his stance and passion. 29 Mar 2024 | Epi 181: INXS’ Most Impactful 25 Songs | 01:39:04
Nobody loves a good list more than Haydn. In today’s episode of the INXS Access All Areas podcast, Bee allows him to indulge his longstanding wish to prosecute the case of which 25 INXS songs have had the most impact and importance within the cultural zeitgeist. With a recording career that started in 1980 via their eponymous debut album, and culminated in 2010’s Original Sin reworking of old material, the band has written over 300 songs. So determining the top 25 that will still resonate in 100 years was a massive undertaking with many songs landing at '26!' Impact and importance are different criteria to favourite or best song. It's about which 25 songs, more than others, resonate with the public consciousness, whether it's the charts, fan enjoyment, legacy, musicianship or simply propelled the band forward in their progression from Aussie touring band to international superstardom. So sit back, enjoy, agree, disagree, prosecute or revel in what might be our most controversial topic ever!!! Love and peace. Haydn and Bee. Entry to the Competition ends on 31st March. 11 Dec 2022 | Epi 131: Part 1: INXS Compilation Albums 1982-1994 | 01:09:09
It’s often said that greatest hits albums are a culmination of a band’s body of work during the key parts of its career, and with INXS we have contrasting motives behind these releases being discussed today.
1982’s INXSIVE: The Deluxe Years was a helpful entrée for new fans wanting a consolidated understanding of the band’s sophomore work, albeit a cash grab from its old label.
1994’s The Greatest Hits, a more reflective package that covered INXS’ start, their climb, and the starring ascent to worldwide domination with different track listings released in different markets, namely Australia, USA, Japan, Brazil, and the UK.
With bonus tracks on all of these releases, many ardent fans across the globe welcomed these releases into their music collections, whilst passing fans into the band’s singles found these packages a shortcut to sonic joy.
So, as we approach the closing of 2022, join us at INXS Access All Areas as we retrospectively enjoy this first installment that is “The Compilations”! e taken to this event through our heartfelt recounting of this wonderful experience.
Love and peace ✌️

26 Oct 2023 | Epi 165: Young Johnny Farriss | 01:26:56
With two weeks off, Bee and I are back with renewed vigor and passion as we welcome to the show Shaun and Scott from Voxneon. Shaun just happened to be part of “The Keep,” a Davidson High band that included iconic INXS members Michael Hutchence, Garry Beers and Andrew Farriss.
We take listeners back nearly 50 years ago when the early genius of Andrew was on full display, to Shaun and a raw, broody and emerging Michael who was developing his singing and stage craft.
Interestingly, we take a deep dive with both Shaun and Scott into the magic of early synth soundscapes of the emerging 1980’s, highlighting Gary Numan, Simple Minds, Icehouse, Human League and Kraftwerk.
The duo’s love for INXS shines through as we dive deep on the bands complex and versatile sonics and legendary vocal phrasing of Michael. Their passion and respect comes through.
Finally, we make a big announcement regarding an upcoming guest that, simply stated, will be our biggest musician to ever appear on our show. All that and a whole lot more!
Love and Peace ✌️ Haydn

27 Sep 2020 | Epi 21: INXS Memories | 01:34:56
It’s with complete self-indulgent joy Bee and I make this podcast all about “OURSELVES”. Yikes!!! No, we don’t, but seriously we are passionate and proud to share with the INXS: Access all Areas family our individual Top 5 INXS experiences. Despite growing up in different hemispheres, the musical excellence of INXS was still able to connect with our respective eyes, ears, and soul. Through destiny on June 6th, 2019 in Sydney at the Michael Hutchence documentary, our paths crossed, and the seeds were sown for this podcast to come alive. Now we truly get to share the moments, the joy, the heartbreak, and the glee that INXS has brought to our lives. Our lists shall vary but what unites us is the unbridled passion and emotions that this international globe-trotting sextet from Sydney has had on our lives. So buckle in for what undoubtedly is our most emotionally charged episode where old wounds are juxtaposed with sheer exultation. Peace and Love!! 21 Jan 2025 | Epi 209: Michael Hutchence at 65!! | 00:34:42
With the passage of time, many in the INXS fan community and wider musical world have had to accept that this great Australian icon of entertainment shall never grace us with his presence again. With numerous tears shed, we like to look at January 22nd each year as a day of celebration. A day when in 1960, Michael Kelland Hutchence entered the world and changed life as many know it. A singer, a friend, a brother, a bandmate, a Father and a beacon of light for his peers. So in today’s episode of INXS: Access all Areas, we revisit a special past episode from way back to episode 88 where we pay homage to the immense contribution Michael had on all of those around him. We miss you Michael! Love and Peace https://www.inxsaccessallareas.com/ https://www.change.org/p/induct-inxs-into-the-rock-roll-hall-of-fame-2025
17 Sep 2023 | Epi 162: SHOWDOWN—Kiss the Dirt v. To Look at You | 00:38:36
With a quick turnaround between episodes, we want to get back to basics and pay homage to the songs that make INXS music so fantastic and memorable.
In our first ever “Song Showdown”, Bee takes the red corner and myself the blue corner as we face off in our first musical debate about the virtues of these two songs that represented the third singles released, respectively, from Shabooh Shoobah and Listen Like Thieves.
“To Look at You”, a new-wave paean to mystery love, is sung and played with a mood unlike any INXS song ever recorded to this point. “Kiss the Dirt” begins with a subtly-restrained intro with evocative outback-inspired keyboards leading to a vocal and guitar escalation that culminates with an early grunge-type payoff.
Both great songs are, musically and sonically, diametrically opposed. Shall Bee make the case? Or shall Haydn make his case with prosecutorial bombardment?

24 Apr 2022 | Epi 103: The Making of INXS’s Full Moon Dirty Hearts Album | 01:25:02
Episode 103: The Making of FMDH, Part One
In the first of our two-part deep dive with famed international producer Mark Opitz, we tackle the actual making of Full Moon, Dirty Hearts on the Italian island oasis (whoops!) of Capri and aim to put you right in the time period.
Mark Opitz defines in episode 103 of INXS: Access All Areas that the role of the producer is akin to the director of the movie: guiding the engineers to follow his time-honored practices in getting the sounds and sonics of the vocals, guitars, drums, and keyboards in sync; ensuring the mixes are done to satisfaction, and pushing the band to be the best they can be with their songwriting and studio performance. Despite the commercial failure of Full Moon, Dirty Hearts, particularly in America (no thanks to the record label), the band and Mark came up with 12 tracks that 29 years later still hold up musically. We drill down on the Capri experience to examine “where” each member of the band was at, personally and professionally, after Welcome to Wherever You Are and a recent retreat to Michael’s South France villa. Why was Capri chosen? What actually happened there? (Warts and all!) And what did the imminent ending of INXS’ long-term arrangement with its label mean for the marketing and distribution for Full Moon, Dirty Hearts? Mark has never been more erudite and revealing as we take you on a “Back to the Future, fly on the wall” experience of the entire Capri affair: the island, the hotel, the history, the recording studio, the ad hoc phone calls to Bono from Michael, the sudden arrival of Chris Murphy who sought to renegotiate his management deal, and Michael’s post-accident period where he was adjusting to life without the vital senses of taste and smell. Sometimes great music can come out of great calamity and band dysfunction (hello, Fleetwood Mac 1977 Rumours), and we are lucky to have this often forgotten and neglected album to listen to and re-appreciate some 29 years later. So, before we examine each track and discuss the songs, sit back and immerse yourself in a time and place where the band was enjoying a creative peak, if not a commercial one, and embrace the making of Full Moon, Dirty Hearts. 25 Feb 2023 | Epi 140: Elegantly Wasted Side 2 | 01:08:25
It’s with great pleasure that we get to deep dive and reviews side 2 of 1997’s Elegantly Wasted by INXS, starting with ‘Girl on Fire‘ at song 7. We take the unique step of also reviewing bonus songs ‘Shine‘ and ‘Let It Ride,‘ both of which were only on international releases (not American).
As always, Bee and I get to add some “deep cut” tracks that weren’t singles to our ever-growing Spotify playlist of lesser-known INXS songs that simply showcase the depth of this classy band's songwriting catalogue.
Combined with some great fan engagement, the most up-to-date news, and interesting album anecdotes, this is a not-to-be-missed INXS: Access All Areas episode.
Love and peace ✌️ Haydn

23 Jun 2024 | Epi 187: The birth of Pretty Vegas. | 00:49:38
As we welcome Bee back from her European travel escapades, INXS: Access all Areas roars back with a vengeance as we continue the Rock Star INXS theme with a forensic deep dive into the birth of the Billboard Charting hit Pretty Vegas. Commencing as a contestant activity, Andrew Farriss and Dave Navarro commissioned two teams to go away and write melodies and lyrics to a bed of music created by Andrew and the band. What follows is one of the most interesting and out there sliding doors moments whereby JD Fortune goes “psychotically clever” (according to rival Marty Casey) and constructs his own version outside group directive In addition, we are launching a brand new segment that shall allow any current or future patron to participate on any forthcoming episode with an emphasis on past concerts performed by INXS during their 1977-2012 live career. With a bumper NEWS section and a renewed vigour, this long awaited episode is not to be missed!!! Also, we get to dive deep into those pivotal INXS songs that Kirk feels summed up the band plus uncover a surprising link between the MAXQ album and Kirk himself. Additionally, that famous trek from Sydney to Perth with Michael in the late 1970’s is revealed whilst Kirk discusses possible new music from the archives of “Vault Pengilly”. 02 Oct 2021 | Epi 71: The Kirk Pengilly Interview 2/3 | 01:22:38
It was a true joy hearing from Kirk last week and are excited to elaborate on his journey in the second part of our deep dive. In this episode, we get to know the real Kirk away from the limelight of an international rock star. Humble community activist, health/vision ambassador, and devoted husband to wife Layne Beachley. As a youngster moving from Victoria to New South Wales, the sliding door moment he met Tim in science class was a moment that changed Oz rock forever and Kirk’s insights into this are truly fascinating. We elaborate on the famous Kirk diaries, the infamous stumble off stage (thanks Michael), and excitedly share patron questions direct to Kirk with excellent answers to follow! So we trust you’ll enjoy Part 2 of Kirk Pengilly on INXS: Access all Areas and immerse yourself in the career and class of character that is “our Kirk”!
