15 Apr 2021Bruce Clay - The Father of SEO Shares How To Future-Proof Your Rankings01:20:11

Bruce Clay of SEOTraining.com brings the heat on our show today, because the way he described how there’s a different algorithm for different keywords and different keywords you have to treat in different ways on the intent, the way he describes it, really simplifies the SEO game. You don’t have to make up rules and do all this trick stuff. Even when you use tools, all of our “competition” is getting the same data, you just need to be less bad at it than everyone else.

You have an advantage if you have this information, and one of the things that was fascinating is this is the first we have heard about this update in May which you’ll hear about on the show. You’ll learn about NitroPack.io a plug-in, which will get your site speed to run quickly so you don’t lose visitors, and he’s been so entrenched in this world, you can tell he’s clearly the father of SEO. Once you’ve got your SEO wheels spinning, be sure to check out our chats with Gert Mellak and Nikhil Aitharaju & Ryo Chiba to go down the rabbit hole of ranking even more.

“Along comes this thing called a search engine which is entirely software and algorithm and if you win, you make money. It’s almost like a slot machine that you can program yourself.” - Bruce Clay

Some Topics We Discussed Include:

  • What was it like selling SEO services back in 1996
  • What does Google’s algorithm have to do with camping, brain surgery, and Rubik’s cubes?
  • Is the keyword informational or transactional and why you should know
  • How Featured Snippets and Answer Boxes have changed the world of rankings
  • What’s Google up to in May and how to be prepared so you do not lose rankings
  • Javascript secrets to get your site to load faster
  • Geek out with us when we discuss core web vitals, largest contentful paint and cumulative layout shift

06 Feb 2020Doc Williams - The Gary Vee Content Model 2.001:14:14

We are back and on today’s show, we are chatting with Doc Williams, an awesome guy who approached us to be a guest on our show. We couldn’t say no as we realized he came with so much value and a model that was easy to follow, that we really wanted to share it.

Doc comes across as someone who has lived many lifetimes, going through a variety of businesses through the ages (even though he’s close to our age). He’s worked with ESPN, AppSumo, an Olympic medal team, he ran his own CrossFit gym, even a candy store! He’s done so many interesting things in his life, and he’s one of the very few people who have made the cut through reaching out to us directly with his model. He’s also worked with VaynerSports and is clearly someone who makes stuff happen.

You’ll hear how Doc takes the concept of creating content, which can be super time consuming and leans into what your personality is best suited for, then repurposing that content in a way in which you are getting it in front of the right people. You’ll also learn which channels are working and how to set up your own content funnel to keep it as simple for you so you don’t get overwhelmed trying to be everywhere, all over the various social media channels. After you are done, check out our talks with Paul Clifford and David Sinick as we discuss content syndication, content upgrading and speeding up the process for promoting and creating content.

If the opportunity is there, I just try to listen as much as possible...how could be of use.” - Doc Williams

Some Topics We Discussed Include:

  • Matt was the first person in his high school to do…..? Listen and find out!
  • What things Doc would do differently if he had to start all over again
  • How Doc turned a reality show opportunity into a new business idea
  • What type of content you should be focused on providing in your business and why you don’t need to be everywhere, all the time across social media
  • Doc’s personality assessment test, why everyone should take it and how you can get a copy for yourself
  • How to run tests of your smaller pieces of content to know what works and get the right feedback from the right people first
  • What Doc learned from selling candy at a young age to his friends
  • And much, much more!

06 Aug 2020Steven Kotler - How To Create And Leverage Flow States01:10:36

We are stoked to have Steven Kotler on today’s show as this is one of those episodes we are super curious as to what he’s doing and wanted to dive into the massive body of work he’s done. Most of Steven’s work deals with flow and peak performance as well as converging technologies and futurism. He also does a lot of work with Peter Diamandis and has a new book co-authored with Peter, called The Future Is Faster Than You Think. This book is part of their trilogy of books and will show how you can combine these exponential technologies and systems and stack them. He also dives into why flying cars, blockchain, and other cool things like that are changing at a super rapid pace. We even talk about how this all relates to COVID as well as some actual benefits of the current situation we find ourselves in.

This is a fly on the wall conversation talking about futurism, how to get into flow, whether you can get into flow synthetically, and how to change our brain’s default from thinking negatively.  We also discuss your primary and secondary activities, which one you should focus on for fun and for work, plus Steven even told us which country is leading the charge in drone technology (and it’s not from where you think). We know you are going to love this show as much as we did, and when you are done be sure to check out our episodes with Craig Ballantyne and Dave Asprey for more discussion on living a high performing life.

When you are talking about peak performance, there’s no such thing as a hack. There’s only one thing - there’s getting your biology to work for you rather than against you.” - Steven Kotler

Some Topics We Discussed Include:

  • Which country now leads the world in drone technology?
  • What’s cool with COVID
  • The hippie speedball recipe for a quick boost
  • Your primary and secondary activities and which you should use for work
  • Ways to tell if you are in flow
  • What the future holds for the middle class
  • The faster way that we know of, to calm yourself down
  • Everything you ever wanted to learn about rocket science in just one sentence
  • And much, much more!

17 Jun 2021Erik Huberman - Building A People-Based System To Achieve Your Vision01:10:48

Our episode today with Erik Huberman of Hawke Media was a mini-class of 5-6 various topics all combined in one show. We talked about increasing lifetime value, about how venture funds work, equity deal lessons, the marketing we should be focused on, and building an agency, systems, and owning your audience. We share the vision with Erik, as there’s a lot of what we’ve done previously such as having an agency, and we like the fact that he’s not trying to create his own products, but is just staying in his lane.

We also talked about owning your own audience and bringing them somewhere where you can follow up with them as well as the idea of aspirational content where the content is built so it’s inherently sharable as that’s the content that people want to be shown. The content is what goes viral, not the sales page. We talk about how he is building sweat equity and brought in someone to view what he was doing, as there are probably some better deal structures out there. Erik has all these companies and basically crafted something where he can be his best self, which creates funds, books, and his own platform through scaling people. After you have listened, be sure to check out our chats with Charles Byrd and Sergei & Vadim Revzin to get your mind reeling with the opportunities behind venture funding and expanding your network for lucrative deals.

Figuring out your average sales cycle is critical so you can analyze everything else well.” - Erik Huberman

Some Topics We Discussed Include:

  • How venture funds are the next level of curation
  • Accessibility for great marketing for all
  • From beanie babies to a BMX
  • The #1 thing that most companies overlook in their marketing
  • Why 9 women can’t make a baby in a month
  • Why the consideration period is more important than you realize
  • Dialing in your content with your product or services’ aspirational ideals

16 Apr 2019Caleb Simpson — The CBD Business And How To Market Without The Ad Platforms01:04:08

One of the most stressful times in Caleb Simpson’s life was selling his energy bar business. The finances, lawyers, and buyers were all wearing him out, so he decided to give CBD (the non-psychoactive chemical found in hemp plants) a try. Results were so immediate that he knew exactly what business he was going to start building next.

Caleb is a father of three kids and ultra-marathon runner. After trying CBD for the first time his stress melted away and he found relief from the pain of his chronic injury. He founded Hemp Daddy’s to bring the healing power of CBD to those struggling with chronic issues like inflammation, anxiety, depression, and much more.

Not every industry is welcome on Google and Facebook. Listen in as Caleb shows Matt and Joe 5 ways to market taboo products without the aid of big platforms, segmenting your audiences without special links, and the tech stack to manage everything yourself. When you’re done, check out our conversations with Mike Michalowicz and Nate Broughton for more advice about building a business from scratch.

28 Aug 2018Tim Francis — A Masterclass On Finding And Hiring The Right People01:22:17

Have you ever been a witness to “the moment?” It’s that moment of clarity in life when your state of health or misalignment with your business methods as a solopreneur takes you from broke to brilliant. Tim Francis and his journey are living testimony to the colossal impact of lucid thinking.

Tim’s story began like many other entrepreneurs. He grew his business beyond his ability to get things done and took on an assistant to help him scale. He searched all the greatest places for “inexpensive” virtual help, from India to Russia, and most places in between.  The problem was the time it didn’t save him and the quality control he couldn’t have.

So, one after another, Tim got frustrated with his hired help and ended up taking back over “task” work and the grind went from 70 hour work weeks to 90 or more hours. Soon after entered the loss of clients’ capital in the stock market and real estate crash of 2008, hiring the wrong and extremely expensive “entrepreneurial” mentor, and a seriously painful illness that landed him back in his parents’ home recuperating. This was exactly what he needed to get to his own “moment.”

Listen in to hear more about Tim’s mindset shift from consumer to producer, advice on how to hire the right people at the right time to grow and scale your business, and how to think of your newfound assistant as a revenue stream instead of a business expense. If the takeaways in this episode resonate with your current state of systems or team building, be sure to check out tips from Samantha Riley and Josh Bartlett too.

There’s no leverage here. If there’s no return on my time, energy and money, why would I even bother…?”- Tim Francis

  • Are timeshare scooters the new Lamborghini?
  • Speaking of Lambos, what is Matt’s definition of entrepreneurial success?
  • Stop using this as a measure to define your worth as an entrepreneur and mindset shifts about delegation can happen
  • Guess who used to believe personality test tools were like horoscopes?

Today's guest is Brandon LaVorgna, a seasoned media expert and entrepreneur, who delves into the evolution of the media landscape, effective pitching strategies for gaining media exposure, and the critical role of entrepreneurship in driving personal and professional growth. If you've ever wondered how to make your mark in today's fast-paced media world or how to thrive in entrepreneurship, this episode is packed with actionable advice and inspiring stories.

Local News Dynamics

Brandon begins by sharing his experiences working in local news across various states, including Wyoming, Georgia, and the Carolinas. He discusses how local newsrooms operate, often broadcasting from central hubs like Cheyenne, with anchors located in other regions such as Casper. The conversation sheds light on the challenges local news faces, such as financial instability and shrinking news teams, which affect how news is reported and distributed.

Changes in the Media Industry

We delve into the broad shifts in the media landscape, particularly how digital platforms like podcasts and blogs are becoming important news sources alongside traditional media. Brandon emphasizes that despite these changes, the fundamentals of storytelling and audience engagement remain key to successful media communication. He highlights the movement towards more sensational news as teams become smaller and resources scarcer.

Pitching to News Outlets

One of the most enlightening segments of our chat involves Brandon’s strategies for effectively pitching news stories. He details the importance of persistence and creativity in communication with news outlets, especially in a time when newsrooms receive countless pitches daily. His top tips include:

  • Always follow up on news releases with a phone call.
  • Be prepared for same-day coverage by having a detailed media plan.
  • Keep a media kit ready for quick access by news teams.

Building Connections and Relationships

A significant part of gaining media attention, Brandon notes, is building lasting relationships with reporters and newsmakers. This process involves understanding the needs and schedules of newsrooms and being strategic about outreach efforts. He suggests direct communication paths like email and social media platforms to establish connections.

Entrepreneurship and Personal Motivation

Brandon shares his personal journey from being a news professional to launching his own digital consulting firm, Superbloom. He discusses the hurdles he faced, including ADHD and maintaining energy levels, and how finding his "why" was crucial for his motivation and success. He advises aspiring entrepreneurs to "do the damn thing," emphasizing the importance of taking action and not waiting for the perfect moment.

17 Sep 2020Alex Charfen - Your Business Should Always Be Broken00:57:44

Alex Charfen joins us today and like many in the past, we were pleasantly surprised at the topics that came up. First, we chat about Alex’s backstory and how he was able to turn his life and business completely around after the housing crisis in 2007. He was able to take his knowledge and create a brand new business helping others get through some very difficult years, and this business gained momentum so quickly that he became a top advisor to government officials while also making it onto the Inc. 500 list a mere four years later. This is a great, timely chat about creating something helpful and important, out of a crisis such as the one we’ve dealt with this year.

We also have a great conversation about Alex’s struggles, his successes with a specific kind of therapy, the importance of being vulnerable, and how, if you find yourself judging other people or situations (which of course, we all do from time to time) the best way to turn this around to actually fix how you feel about yourself. Once you’ve listened, be sure to check our shows with Lisa Cherney and Perry Marshall where we talk about how to succeed in today’s challenging climate as well as dealing with self-sabotage.

If you're thinking maintain, you're out of the game already. The mantra in a crisis is, ‘I can grow in this crisis, I can succeed in this crisis, I can help people in this crisis, and I can make a huge impact in this crisis.” - Alex Charfen

  • The most important thing to do when the world is in crisis
  • How Alex went from being bankrupt to getting to #21 on the Inc. 500 list only 4 years later
  • The benefits of showing your vulnerable side and exposing your weaknesses

07 Aug 2018Billy Gene Shaw — Using Video And Advertising To Be Everywhere00:55:26

Entertainment pays, no matter what your niche. And in this day and age, no matter how big or successful you believe you are in your online business unless you’re willing to entertain first, you’ll go the way of the dinosaur (before the Jurassic Park storyline brought them back to life anyway). At least, that’s Billy Gene Shaw’s motto.

From the looks of things, Billy Gene’s onto something. He’s the man that missed out on a college degree by not completing one course to go to Cabo with an ex. He moved on to fail at a mobile oil changing business next. After that came learning the most marketable of all skills at of his next jobs with an agency-marketing of course.

While getting paid to learn how to help businesses grow, Billy Gene saw the real money was in growing an online business, so he jumped in and learned how to market his first online course in quitting smoking and drinking. What he learned there and at his day job helped him to build the online mecca known today by many entrepreneurs as THE GUY of YouTube video ads.

Tune in as the conversation gets deep, not wide about the three-step process to kill it with online video ad campaigns, running traffic to the right place on YouTube, and three things to include in every video you shoot to build your brand and sell more stuff. Once you’re all set and get Billy Gene’s tips into action, be sure to parallel park Dennis Yu’s Facebook video strategy alongside it to get more bang for your branding buck. And, if you really want to be seen everywhere by your prospect, check into our qualified traffic episode to nail it down the rest of the way.

“That’s what people don’t understand. It doesn’t take a lot of money, and here’s the thing. If you’re making more money than you spend, you’re actually getting paid to build your brand.”- Billy Gene Shaw

Some Topics We Discussed Include:

  • Is there an unwritten rule you need to live in San Diego to be a successful online marketer?
  • How being loud, profane, young and black spurred Billy Gene’s method for client getting success
  • These three steps are all you need to get people buying from you instantly
  • Brand awareness ads + direct response ads = recipe for online success
  • This unconventional ROI made billboard ads worth the risk, and it’s something you can leverage right now too
  • Living proof that when you’re hurting for dough and you do what you know you can succeed
  • When getting out of character works, and why you should consider it
  • How to build your brand for free on YouTube exploiting this lesser known fact
  • Always meet the customer where they’re at and you’ll see more cold conversions
  • Use Billy Gene’s three “E’s” for the highest converting video ad campaigns around
  • While you’re at it, follow these three guidelines when you shoot your videos to create the most valuable content for your audience
  • Why zags and trends should be on your marketing radar
  • Billy’s motto, “If no one’s listening to you, it doesn’t matter what the f@#$ you say!”
  • The difference between a peer mentor and a pay mentor and why you need both

08 Sep 2020Jay Abraham & Rich Schefren - The Masters of Passive Income01:24:06

On today’s show, this is going to be an epic master class with two of the most brilliant minds we know, Jay Abraham and Rich Schefren. Jay and Rich go way back, having known each other for close to twenty years. In today’s economy, this will be the most valuable information that any business owner can take and actually use, to make money and turn things.

Both Rich and Jay give their insights around a host of opportunities in today’s world to help people and businesses leverage their existing assets in such a way that will benefit them and you as the deal maker. There are also some great examples of folks who knew where to look and find opportunities that others were missing and basically created arbitrage situations that led to passive income for years to come. We know your mind will be reeling with possibilities after listening, and when you are done you will want to listen to our previous episodes where we chatted with Dana Robinson and Markian Sich on how they are able to create passive income as well with real estate investing and online businesses.

This is the time where there is so much opportunity, and the reason is there is so much opportunity is because during times of tremendous uncertainty as well as some form of recession, what happens is there are many businesses who are a lot less active than before, and that leaves a lot of their assets dormant...which makes them a lot more receptive to other ideas and possibilities. ” - Rich Schefren

“Right now there are 5 or 6 windows of screaming opportunities that are starting to close..first one if there will never be a time in the history of entrepreneurship where more business owners and professionals are open to doing deals, collaborating, joint venturing, profit partnering, letting you sell things to their audience....that’s one thing. ” - Jay Abraham

Some Topics We Discussed Include:

  • How to think like Tom Sawyer
  • How to see and seize opportunities to be the toll booth/money taker
  • Putting the Pareto principle and Venn diagrams into play
  • Examples of ways to help businesses right now which will benefit you for years to come (even if you do not have any capital to start with)
  • The real reason Jay stopped selling his courses
  • Examples of prosperity pathways and how to identify where opportunities exist
  • And much, much more!

02 Aug 2018Vince Reed — Scale Your Traffic Using The Big 5 Ad Platforms01:02:14

If you knew Vince Reed back in the day when he owned his real estate brokerage, you likely never would have guessed he‘d make the big leap into online business. By his own admission, he hardly knew how to send an email. After the market crashed in 2008 though, when faced with the decision of flipping burgers or learning Google ads, thankfully he chose the later.

A believer in his own advice, Vince decided to “learn by doing,” sold a bunch of furniture and computers from his recently closed business out of his garage, and dove in feet first. He clicked on an ad to learn how to make money online, and he’s been in the business of helping others build their businesses ever since.

You can find Vince running a full-service digital agency to help others get more traffic, convert more leads and make more money following a strategy that can be optimized and scaled. He’s an avid participant in live events to help train business owners to do the same. And, if you’re really lucky, you may catch him at his own Internet Traffic Live event that he’s hosting for the fifth and final time in 2019 (with previous guest speakers like Roland Frasier, Billy Gene Shaw, and Russell Brunson to name just a few).

Listen in and hear Vince’s three-part process for driving traffic, ad budget optimization tips for Facebook and his two-step YouTube ad strategy that’s possibly even better than a Google paid strategy. And, if this episode resonated with you, check out Matt’s post about driving consistent traffic and Dennis Yu’s $1/day episode to truly hone your paid traffic plan.

"Knowledge is not really power, in my opinion. Knowledge executed is where the power comes in, so you’ve got to go take action and make it happen.”- Vince Reed

26 Mar 2024Is The Secret To Entrepreneurial Success Sex? with Dr. Anne Truong00:59:22

In this heart-racing episode of Hustle and Flowchart, host Joe Fier invites Dr. Anne Truong, a sexual health expert, to delve into the often-overlooked connection between sexual wellness, stress management, and overall health. As a renowned specialist, Dr. Truong reveals astonishing statistics and practical advice on how entrepreneurs and professionals can integrate healthy practices to improve their sex life, reduce stress, and protect their heart health. This conversation is an eye-opener into how our personal wellbeing is intricately linked to our productivity and entrepreneurial success.

Erectile Dysfunction and Cardiovascular Health

Dr. Anne Truong begins by discussing the striking statistic that 67% of men with erectile dysfunction (ED) will experience a heart attack within 7 to 10 years, showcasing the importance of seeing ED as a potential early warning sign for cardiovascular issues. This highlights the need for awareness and proactive health check-ups.

Four Pillars to Sexual Health and Longevity

Dr. Truong introduces the four pillars essential to sexual health and longevity: diet, exercise, sleep, and stress reduction. Adopting a Mediterranean diet, staying active with walking or other exercises, ensuring enough restorative sleep, and lowering stress levels can lay the foundation for improved sexual health.

Intermittent Fasting, Productivity, and Stress Reduction

Touching on the benefits of intermittent fasting, Dr. Truong suggests that this practice can rejuvenate the body, promoting cell turnover and aiding in stress reduction. She also notes its positive impact on productivity when combined with regular breaks and exercise.

Sexual Activity's Role in Cardiac Health

Sexual activity is not only a natural part of life, but it's also a boon for cardiac health. Studies indicate a correlation between an active sex life, longevity, and healthier living. The conversation also emphasizes the need for communication and incorporation of these life-affirming practices into our daily routines.

Cortisol, Stress, and Their Effects on Health

Dr. Truong dives into the impact of cortisol, the stress hormone produced by the adrenal glands. Chronically elevated cortisol levels can cause various health issues, including hormonal imbalances and cardiovascular strain. Saliva tests are one way individuals can gauge their cortisol levels throughout the day.

Stress Management Techniques

The duo discusses various techniques to manage stress effectively, including yoga, meditation, proper diet, regular physical activity, and natural supplements like ashwagandha. Dr. Truong adds that sexual activity is a potent stress reducer, leading to a decrease in cortisol and an increase in dopamine levels.

Dr. Truong's Personal Journey with Stress

Dr. Truong shares her close encounter with stress-related health problems, including Supraventricular Tachycardia (SVT). By adopting a more balanced lifestyle and monitoring her cortisol levels, she was able to normalize her health indicators and overcome stress-induced issues within a few months.

Sexual Health and Entrepreneurial Success

The conversation shifts to how sexual health is interconnected with professional success. Dr. Truong explains that maintaining good blood flow through sexual activity can boost organ functionality and overall wellbeing, thus contributing to enhanced focus and energy for entrepreneurs.

The Importance of Blood Flow and Vascular Health

Exploring the physiology of blood flow, Dr. Truong emphasizes its importance for organ function and the positive effects of sexual activity on the brain, which releases feel-good hormones and neurotransmitters. Joe Fier connects these insights to the importance of tuning into the body's needs and responses.

Practical Advice for Sexual Health and Relationships

Closing the episode, Dr. Truong and Joe discuss the vital role of maintaining sexual health in relationships and emphasize open communication between partners. They also share resources such as Dr. Truong's YouTube channel "Sexual Health for Men" and various online coaching programs for those seeking guidance.

Conclusion

This episode serves as a comprehensive guide to understanding the interplay between sexual health, stress, and cardiovascular wellness. Joe and Dr. Truong provide actionable insights and natural approaches to enhancing sexual vitality, making it clear that maintaining our sex lives is essential, not just for personal fulfillment but for our overall health and success. 14 May 2024Transform Your Career: Overcoming Subconscious Hurdles with Dr. Lise Janelle00:48:11

Welcome back to another episode of the Hustle and Flowchart Podcast! Today, I have the pleasure of hosting Dr. Lise Janelle, a renowned life transformation coach who specializes in helping professionals eliminate subconscious blocks that impede their success. This episode dives deep into the realm of personal achievement, shedding light on how subconscious beliefs shaped by past experiences can significantly influence our current success and happiness.

Understanding Subconscious Blocks

Dr. Lise Janelle opened up our discussion by explaining how subconscious blocks are often rooted in our early childhood experiences and how they can dictate both our failures and our achievements. She shared the story of an Olympic skier who struggled to win despite intensive training. This athlete’s deep-seated belief, stemming from childhood, that they did not deserve success was sabotaging their efforts. Dr. Janelle’s technique, the Heart Freedom Method, has helped individuals like this skier overcome such blocks and achieve unprecedented breakthroughs.

Overview of the Heart Freedom Method

We delved into Dr. Janelle’s Heart Freedom Method, a transformative approach that incorporates Neuro Emotional Technique and the teachings of John Demartini. This method emphasizes identifying subconscious beliefs and replacing them with gratitude and a heightened sense of self-worth, leading to improvements in relationships, finances, and overall career trajectories. It’s a method focused on aligning your inner truths with your heart's deepest desires, fostering a phenomenal transformation in all facets of life.

The Role of Gratitude in Personal Growth

A significant part of our conversation centered on how gratitude amplifies self-worth, which plays a critical role in unlocking potential and fostering success. Dr. Janelle emphasized that gratitude is not just about being thankful for the good things but also appreciating the challenges and learning from them. This mindset shift is pivotal for genuine growth and happiness.

The Impact of Childhood Experiences on Self-Worth

Understanding the link between early emotional experiences and self-worth was another critical topic. Dr. Janelle explained how the absence of emotional support in childhood could make recognizing our value and acknowledging our own desires more challenging as adults. This understanding is crucial for anyone struggling to achieve their goals, as it highlights the need for a compassionate self-review of one's past to align better with one's future aspirations.

The Stages of Human Development

Dr. Janelle outlined two main stages of human development: the unconscious state driven by external validation and the conscious state driven by internal beliefs. Transitioning from the unconscious to the conscious state involves acknowledging and letting go of those ingrained beliefs that no longer serve us. This transition is imperative for anyone looking to live a more authentic and fulfilled life.

Facing Life's Challenges and Transformations

We talked about the importance of facing life's challenges head-on and using them as stepping stones to achieve greater success. Dr. Janelle shared personal anecdotes, including facing her father’s terminal illness and learning from the rollercoaster lives of Hollywood stars. These stories highlight the importance of resilience and finding inner peace amidst life's extremes.

Finding Your Purpose and Understanding Personal Goals

Finally, understanding and connecting with one’s purpose emerged as a theme. Dr. Janelle advocates for taking time to explore and understand where one is heading in life. • This episode is sponsored by our go-to SEO research tool, Ahrefs.com. We found out recently that one of our most profitable traffic sources is going on other people’s podcasts. With Ahrefs, there's this cool trick you can do that is basically searching that has someone’s else’s name on it. So we can use this tool, type in a name and find other podcasts to be on, if you search out guests names and see where they pop up. We use this amazing tool pretty much daily, and if you listen back to some of our most recent episodes, we breakdown some of the tactics we use in our intros, such as website audits, looking at our competitors’ websites, and finding low hanging fruit keywords for easy Google rankings. 08 Jul 2021Ryan Berman - How Courageous Companies Build Well-Known Brands01:14:01

The time really flew by on today’s episode with Ryan Berman of Courageous Brands, as we let Ryan’s stories interweave into the show. Ryan brings to the table a different perspective than most marketing people. We discuss his stair stepper approach to marketing and how everything is connected. We also talk about how he created an actual city location, in Funner, CA and the magic behind that marketing campaign.

One of the things that we love about this conversation is to start by stepping into the shoes of who you are selling to, which is something we intuitively know, but don’t always practice. Think of how you would want to be marketed to, which is one of the toughest things, but remember the customers are holding all the cards. Ryan also discusses how, if you have a boring brand, do something to change that fact, and create stories around the brand to make it exciting.

Also, make sure you listen to the end, as we read some of our recent reviews - maybe it’s from you! And after you have enjoyed this episode, be sure to check out our conversations with Dan Norris and Ryan Lee, who have both created successful brands by offering value and fun in a different way that makes them stand out from the rest.

We’re living in this world now, where we are inundated with 7,000 messages a day. There’s so much competition right now and that’s why brand is so important.” - Ryan Berman

Some Topics We Discussed Include:

  • Why “No feel, no deal” is so important to your business
  • David Hasselhoff and the magic behind a “Funner” city
  • The beauty of marketing today in telling your story
  • Getting from strategy to ideas to execution
  • How to flip common perspectives to bring your brand to new levels
  • From ducks to geckos - what to do if you have a boring brand
  • Beerfest vs. Craftfest? Who wants to go?
  • How to weed out the clients that are not a good fit
  • The stair stepper approach to your marketing plan

George Bryant joins us today, for a long awaited show and today we are talking about how to build better relationships with your customers and lists, and essentially how to make the people in your ecosystem love you and be excited to hear from you, which in turn will bring you profitable results. George has worked with and co-owned so many big brands, such as Adidas and Onit, has been a New York Times best-selling author, and is basically someone who is getting it all done and after listening to this episode you’ll understand why.

He covers a lot of ground in this show, and there’s a boatload of information you will be happy you took in.  If this episode has you itching for more information about customer acquisition and balance between health, happiness, and making an impact on the world, be sure to check out what Josh Bartlett adds to the discussion as well as the show we mentioned with Aaron Fletcher.

The best protective business mechanism that you’ll ever have is giving everything away for free because nobody buys the information, they buy access and accountability based on the best relationship.” - George Bryant

18 Feb 2021Dan Norris - Beer, Branding, And Compound Marketing01:24:32

We have Dan Norris on the show today, and he’s someone who has accomplished quite a lot, with a somewhat different approach to marketing. He focuses on four core pillars: branding, community, storytelling, and content marketing. In this episode, we do a deep dive into all four of those. After founding WP Curve, which was subsequently sold to GoDaddy, Dan started a new venture, Black Hops Brewing in Australia. You’ll hear Dan discuss how he has created one of the biggest and well-known brands in his country (voted the #1`craft brewery in Australia), all with basically no ad spend.

There’s a similar thread in the way he’s marketed both his WP Curve brand and his craft beer brand, and it all comes down to his concept of Compound Marketing, which is also the basis behind his new book. When you’re done, check out our conversation with Lisa Cherney for more content strategies and how to be real to your audience even if that means being putting off others, and get some advice from Anthony Constantino, who also runs a super fun company that really resonates with his customers.

It helps to take this approach where you’ve got these things compounding behind the scenes without you necessarily having to do a whole lot. I see our competitors buying billboards and doing paid ads and I’m glad we don’t have to do all that.” - Dan Norris

Some Topics We Discussed Include:

  • Taking a bath in beer? (it does wonders for your hair)
  • How to promote a unique beer so that it sells out
  • Why too much advertising can actually a bad thing
  • Drink Dan’s brew and tag us and Dan!
  • Putting together a good story for your brand
  • Why Dan gets so much traction with basically no ad spend
  • Giving up all the information for free!
  • Thinking about collaborations? You’ll wish you’d done it sooner after listening after this
  • Power and momentum behind the flywheel
