Inside the Pipes (AI Proof, for now...) - Plumber

In this episode, Mirav talks with Mark Anderson who is a plumber who has worked in the field for many years and has a thriving plumbing & HVAC business in the Hudson Valley - "A Team Comfort Systems." Plumbing, says Mark, is all about being thoughtful and figuring out how to solve a problem. Simple, right? There's more to it than that.

As a plumber, you have to have specialized knowledge of how pipes, water heaters, drains, and more work together to form a system in a home or business. On top of that, you have to know how to fix the problem when one of those parts breaks, or backs up, or freezes. Plumbing isn't a cakewalk–you're often working in tight spaces, frequently very cold or very hot, and it's dirty work. But the rewards come from establishing honest, long-lasting relationships with your clients and giving them the satisfaction of knowing that their problem has been reliably fixed.  While plumbing might not be the most glamorous profession, it could be right for you. One thing is for sure–AI won't be fixing your pipes anytime soon.

Another Chance at Life - Nurse

In this episode Mirav talks with Jessica Wilson, a practicing nurse for the last 20 years. Nursing is an applied science. It requires you to put medical knowledge in practice and use quick thinking in situations that can be the difference between life and death. Like many positions in the medical field, it requires formal training and on-the-job experience. Depending on the environment–a hospital, a private practice, or even as a traveling nurse–nursing can take on many different forms and specializations.

Jessica tells Mirav about her experiences working in both birthing centers and the ICU. Her responsibilities range from admitting and assessing patients to administering life saving treatments. For her, nursing has offered a lifestyle with competitive pay and a flexible schedule. While it is challenging to see patients going through difficult experiences, the work is also rewarding: she gets to see people become healthier and recover to have a second chance at life.

Not Your Typical Walk in the Park - Dog Walker

Every dog has its day, right? Let's talk the walk: Barry is a professional dog walker who has been caring for his clients dogs for over ten years. Walking your dog might seem like an easy task, but as a professional Barry puts his passion for dogs to use as a full service caretaker.

Patience, adaptability, and a keen eye for animal behavior are all skills that a dog walker needs to have to be effective at the job. Every dog comes with its own personality and needs: a dog walker needs to be aware of these characteristics and have a level head when it comes to handling potentially reactive behaviors. On top of that, you're working outside–you have to be aware of potentially challenging elements like weather and navigating public spaces filled with other dogs and people. But at the end of the day, the reward is clear: having the opportunity to form bonds with animals and putting your passion to use in business.

Entrepreneur Corner - Dairy Free Food Manufacturer

Here's some food for thought: have you ever wanted to sell your home cooked creations to a larger market? In this special episode of Entrepreneur Corner, Lisa Protter, CEO and co-founder of Organic Nectars, joins Mirav to talk about her journey developing a small business from her basement to a warehouse production center as a food manufacturer in New York's Hudson Valley.

For over 20 years, Organic Nectars has been trailblazing in an emerging market for alternative sweeteners and non-dairy, organic treats long before it became trendy. What began as a passion project rooted in home cooking developed into a full-time business with multiple employees and a dedicated production facility. Food manufacturing is a multi-faceted business: importing raw goods, implementing production processes, and getting products into consumer hands by working with retailers and distributers. Organic Nectars doesn't cut any corners–you won't find any co-packers here–every product is made from scratch in-house. But that kind of dedication to excellence requires years of hard work. Tune in to hear more about Lisa's journey and gain valuable insight into the business of food manufacturing.
