19 May 2021 | The Flagship: Why Bijan Robinson could be Longhorns next 1,000 yard rusher | 00:56:53
The 2021 Texas football schedule is starting to shape up with the announcement that the Longhorns’ first road game at Arkansas will be played under the lights in Fayetteville. But does the nighttime slate make Game 2 of the 2021 season a trap game for Texas?
On this week’s episode of The Flagship Podcast, Horns247 columnist Chip Brown and managing editor Taylor Estes weigh in on the latest topics surrounding the Longhorns, and open the show discussing the concerns Texas fans should have with the Longhorns facing Arkansas on the road in Fayetteville for a prime-time matchup between to two former rivals. Chip recalls the last time he covered a Texas road game at Arkansas when the Longhorns barely escaped the Razorbacks in 2004 and why it’s tough for him to imagine this meeting being anything more than a dogfight. The Flagship then shifts focus to some personnel talk involving standout running back Bijan Robinson as he enters his second season with the Longhorns. Chip and Taylor give their thoughts on Robinson’s ceiling, which both hosts believe could lead to a 1,000-yard performance in his second year at Texas especially with Steve Sarkisian calling the offense.
After a short break, The Flagship returns with Love it or Leave it, with this week’s topics focused on if Chip is overreacting to the Longhorns’ first road game of the year, why Texas should not enter the transfer portal for a backup QB option and what to make of Texas basketball forward Jericho Sims’ decision to enter the NBA Draft without hiring an agent.
Catch all of that and much, much more on the mid-week episode of The Flagship Podcast.

19 Aug 2020 | The Flagship: Breaking down Texas' first scrimmage of fall camp | 00:59:07
Texas football held its first scrimmage of fall camp, which in the words of head coach Tom Herman was sloppy, though that is expected at this point in preseason training camp. Aside from the sloppy performance, the Longhorns did have a few highlights emerge from scrimmage No. 1, however, also were hit with some negative news on the injury front.
On the Wednesday episode of The Flagship Podcast, Horns247 columnist Chip Brown and managing editor Taylor Estes open the show with the hottest topics surrounding Texas football coming out of the Longhorns' first fall camp scrimmage and break down points of emphasis for Texas as the Longhorns continue through preseason training camp. Chip and Taylor discuss one of the negative headlines to come from the scrimmage after Horns247 reported true freshman wide receiver Troy Omeire suffered a torn ACL and would miss the entire 2020 football season. Texas has since confirmed Horns247's season-ending injury report on Omeire, which adds another question mark at the receiver position as Omeire has been mentioned multiple times as a player who was standing out substantially early in fall camp.
The Flagship shifts focus to Texas QB Sam Ehlinger who held a Zoom call with reporters Tuesday afternoon. The hosts give their key takeaways from the quarterback's media interview, including Ehlinger's very direct comments on his stance regarding protecting the eligibility of student-athletes this fall in the event of a mid-season disruption, and who he believes is standing out among the newcomers from the 2020 signing class.
After a very short break, Chip and Taylor return with their take on the Longhorns' updated schedule and how the new Big 12 slate impacts Texas as it hopes to turn the corner and make a Big 12 title run in 2020, before getting into this week's Love it or Leave it segment, which addresses the buzz circulating around true freshman QB Hudson Card, how Oklahoma did not get any favors from the Big 12 scheduling folks, what Omeire's injury means for the receiving core and more.
Catch all of that and more on the mid-week episode of The Flagship Podcast.

02 Aug 2021 | The Flagship: Oklahoma columnist Berry Tramel weighs in on Texas and OU's move to the SEC | 00:39:21
In this week's interview edition of The Flagship Podcast, Berry Tramel, longtime columnist for the Oklahoman, shares his thoughts on the decisions of Texas and Oklahoma to leave the Big 12 for the Southeastern Conference.
Tramel talks about Oklahoma's attempts to get into the SEC previously under then-president David Boren and how the Sooners have finally made the move under new OU president Joseph Harroz, Jr.
Tramel discusses the differences between Harroz and Boren.
What were the driving forces behind Oklahoma's move? Tramel weighs in.
Tramel talks about the how former Oklahoma football coach Bob Stoops wanted nothing to do with the SEC in the past and how having Texas on board "made things a lot easier."
Tramel wonders how Texas and Oklahoma will handle moving from a league where they had an inordinate say in decisions to a "strong central government" in the SEC under commissioner Greg Sankey.
Tramel talks about how recruiting might have to change now that Texas and Oklahoma are joining "the pirate ship" in the SEC.
ESPN is clearly involved with Texas and OU's decisions, Tramel said. What isn't clear is if ESPN is involved in tearing down the rest of the BIg 12, Tramel said.
Tramel talks about the likelihood of Texas and Oklahoma getting out of the Big 12 as soon as possible.
Tramel also weighs on what's next for Oklahoma State in terms of the Cowboys' likely landing spot.

20 Sep 2022 | Longhorn Blitz: Has Texas turned a corner under Steve Sarkisian? | 01:15:04
Rod Babers, Matt Butler and Jeff Howe are back to examine a 41-20 win over UTSA and what it means for Texas and head coach Steve Sarkisian. For the third time in as many games in 2022, the Longhorns had to overcome adversity and did so by pulling away from a quality opponent to the tune of a three-touchdown victory thanks to a renewed mindset, the maximization of Roschon Johnson and Bijan Robinson in Sarkisian's multi-back packages and a change of scenery that's apparently helped Pete Kwiatkowski to be more dialed into what's happening during the game on defense.
You can get the latest Longhorn news and analysis at Horns247. 26 Jul 2021 | The Flagship: Radio host Lance Taylor gives conference perspective on Texas-OU potential SEC move | 00:30:01
In this week's interview edition of The Flagship Podcast, we talk to Lance Taylor, longtime radio voice in Birmingham, Ala., who can now be heard from 9 am to 1 pm CT live at nextroundlive.com, about the likelihood that Texas and Oklahoma are headed to the Southeastern Conference.
Taylor admits he was shocked at the initial news and discusses what happened when he interviewed SEC commissioner Greg Sankey at SEC media days last week - right after the news broke about Texas and OU possibly moving to the SEC.
Taylor talks about where he sees Texas fitting into the SEC both from a football program standpoint and from a political standpoint.
How much influence does Alabama have in the SEC? Taylor talks about that as well as who he sees as the other power brokers in the SEC.
Taylor talks about the governing style of SEC commissioner Greg Sankey and also how Texas A&M is viewed in the conference.
Speaking of Texas A&M, Taylor discusses where he sees the Aggies finishing in the SEC this year after A&M nearly cracked the College Football Playoff last season.
Taylor, who also provides sports picks to subscribers at LancesLock.com, gives his breakdown and early prediction for Texas' 2021 road trip into the SEC - at Arkansas on Sept. 11.
Arkansas, by the way, was picked to finish last in the SEC West by the SEC media, but will be amped to face former longtime rival Texas - meaning the Longhorns have to avoid any propensity to take the Razorbacks lightly.
We get Taylor's thoughts on how he sees the rest of the SEC finishing in 2021, including how former Texans coach Bill O'Brien is fitting in as Steve Sarkisian's replacement as Bama offensive coordinator.
Taylor also gives his take on what to expect from Sarkisian as a first-year head coach at Texas after covering Sark at Alabama.
We talk to Taylor about how Texas basketball under first-year coach Chris Beard would fit into the SEC and what he thinks the rest of the Big 12 should do without Texas and Oklahoma.

08 Jul 2020 | The Flagship: Don't Mess with Texas (vs. OU) | 00:48:04
Texas is inching closer and closer to the start of preseason camp as the Longhorns approach an ever-important 2020 football season. But what will happen for Texas, particularly at linebacker, if some of the Longhorns who have publicly stated they won't represent the University of Texas this season?
On this week's episode of The Flagship Podcast, Horns247 columnist Chip Brown and managing editor Taylor Estes break down the latest news surrounding the Longhorns as they prepare for the upcoming football season. Chip and Taylor open the show with the news of the week coming down Tuesday when the State Fair of Texas announced its cancellation amid COVID-19 concern though the annual Red River Shootout remains as scheduled. But without the fair going on at the same time, the 2020 edition of the Red River Shootout will have a much different feel than previous years.
Chip and Taylor then turn their focus to the latest going on with linebacker DeMarvion Overshown, who has yet to return to campus for voluntary workouts after he publicly stated he will not participate in team activities. With the linebacker position already being one of concern, Chris Ash and the defensive staff may have to work overtime to figure out how to properly fill the depth at LB, which was already an issue last season and was a significant reason for the struggles on defense in 2019.
The Flagship then transitions to its weekly 'Love it or Leave it' segment, with this week's topics including if the Ivy League's likely decision to move football to spring will have any impact on the Power 5 conferences, what type of accolades the Texas defense can achieve with a veteran unit returning to the team and how the volleyball's decision to move games to the Erwin Center will change the home court advantage the Longhorns have inside Gregory Gym.
Catch all of that and more on this week's episode of The Flagship Podcast.

26 May 2021 | The Flagship: Next wave of Longhorn newcomers set to join Texas this weekend | 00:56:25
On this week's episode of The Flagship Podcast, Horns247 columnist Chip Brown and managing editor Taylor Estes open the show discussing the remaining 2021 signees who will start to make the move to Austin, Texas this weekend in time for summer workouts. Chip and Taylor weigh in on whom, if any, of the 2021 freshmen enrollees could see early playing time for Texas this upcoming season and guys to keep an eye out as potential difference makers in the future.
The Flagship then takes an in depth look at the Longhorns' 2021 Big 12 Conference schedule, which could be a challenge to get through for Steve Sarkisian and Texas. The Longhorns will face some of the toughest opponents in conference play, including back-to-back road trips at TCU in Fort Worth and against Oklahoma in the Cotton Bowl the following week before returning home to face Mike Gundy and the Oklahoma State Cowboys. Chip and Taylor weigh in on what to expect early on in Big 12 play and how this year's Texas team is in a similar boat as Oklahoma was last season — being tasked with facing a tough early conference slate while also breaking in a first-time starter at quarterback.
The show then shifts focus to the Texas baseball team after the Longhorns clinched the Big 12 title last weekend with a series win over West Virginia. Texas enters the Big 12 Tournament as a No. 1 seed and is expected to host post-season action at UFCU Disch Falk field upon completion of the conference tournament. Chip and Taylor discuss what they like about this baseball team and why this team has the chance to go deep in post-season play if the Longhorns continue down their current path.
After a short break, The Flagship returns with our ‘Love it or Leave it’ segment, with this week's topics focused on where Texas football needs to improve the most before the start of the 2021 season, which team could give preseason Big 12 favorite Oklahoma a run for its money and give some love to the UT women's tennis team after the Longhorns took home a NCAA national championship over the weekend.
Texas fans won't want to miss this loaded episode of The Flagship Podcast.

20 May 2020 | The Flagship: Emmanuel Acho weighs in on Texas football, where the Longhorns are headed under Tom Herman | 01:07:59
With so much uncertainty leading up to the 2020 College Football season, one thing is for sure for Texas: The Longhorns have a solid QB leading the way, which is often times the difference maker for winning teams. Senior quarterback Sam Ehlinger approaches his final season on the Forty Acres and could be poised to lead his team to the top of the sport in 2020.
In this week's episode of The Flagship Podcast, Horns247 columnist Chip Brown and managing editor Taylor Estes break down Ehlinger's trajectory under new offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich and discuss whether or not Ehlinger could surpass one of Yurcich's top QBs during his time at Oklahoma State.
The Flagship then welcomes in a very special guest in Longhorn Legend and college football analyst Emmanuel Acho for his take on Texas in 2020 and beyond under head coach Tom Herman. Acho weighs in on how Ehlinger could be key to the Longhorns' success in 2020 and where he believes the program is headed with Herman at the helm.
After Acho's exclusive interview, Chip and Taylor bring back the 'Love it or Leave it' segment, when they weigh in on some hot topics surrounding both Texas football and the upcoming 2020 college football season plans, including if the Longhorns will play the season in front of a smaller crowd inside Darrell K Royal - Texas Memorial Stadium, if this current pandemic could hurt the Longhorns' rival as Oklahoma breaks in a new QB and if Ehlinger could be poised for a monster year under Yurcich's guidance.

03 Aug 2020 | The Flagship: CBS Sports reporter Dennis Dodd delivers the latest on the fate of the 2020 college football season | 00:33:48
All eyes are on the Big 12 this week as the league approaches an important vote that will determine the schedule for the upcoming football season. The Big 12 is the last Power Five conference to make a decision on the upcoming schedule but a vote among the league's board of directors will go down Monday evening as the conference determines how it will handle this year's schedule amid the on-going COVID-19 pandemic.
On Monday's episode of The Flagship Podcast, CBS Sports college football reporter Dennis Dodd joins the show for the latest rumblings pertaining to the upcoming football season, including the Big 12 board of director's vote, which will determine the fate of the league's scheduling in 2020.
Dodd weighs in on what he's hearing from a national standpoint about the Big 12's vote in addition to how other Power Five conferences have handled the situation for the upcoming season, which started in mid-July when the Big Ten Conference announced its plan to remove all non-conference games from the 2020 schedule. At the time, the Big Ten's decision was not widely appreciated or accepted by other Power Five commissioners and college football officials due to how the league handled the announcement, which caught all other Power Five conference members off-guard. However, three of the four other conferences have since followed the Big Ten's lead in moving to a conference-only schedule for 2020.
Dodd also discusses his thoughts on the upcoming season, how the scheduling could impact post-season competitions and much more.

26 Aug 2020 | The Flagship: Longhorns on the rise midway through preseason practice | 00:41:19
The Longhorns have reached the midway point of preseason training camp and some players have begun to separate themselves from the competition at several positions on the roster. While the emergence of guys at some positions is a big positive for the Longhorns, Texas still has significant questions that need to be answered prior to the Sept. 12 kickoff against UTEP.
On the mid-week episode of The Flagship Podcast, Horns247 columnist Chip Brown and managing editor Taylor Estes dissect the Longhorns' progress following the second scrimmage of fall camp, which historically is the most important scrimmage in preseason practice. The Flagship breaks down the players who have rose to the occasion in position battles and continue to impress as Texas makes its way towards the start of the 2020 season, and those who have a lot of work to do before securing a starting job for the Longhorns.
Chip and Taylor also focus on the positions that remain a concern for Texas, including linebacker and wide receiver. The battle at linebacker has led to some unexpected names being mentioned among players who are standing out, but what's going on with the more veteran guys at the position whose names have not been talked about as much as one may expect at this point in practice?
After a very quick break, The Flagship then shifts its focus on the preseason AP Top 25 Poll, which had Texas ranked No. 14 in the country ahead of Year 4 of the Tom Herman era before bringing in the weekly 'Love it or Leave it' segment.
Topics mentioned in this week's 'Love it or Leave it' segment include the emergence of Roschon Johnson at running back, what UT students return to campus means for the football team, if the AP Poll got it right with ranking Texas at No. 14 and if the Dallas Cowboys should consider adding Texas Ex and 7-time Pro Bowler Earl Thomas to the roster.

The Longhorns are making their way towards the start of the 2020 college football season, which is currently expected to look far different than imagined. After the Big Ten and PAC 12 conferences chose to postpone the start of the fall season with hopes of playing in the spring, only three of the Power Five conferences are planning to play a fall football season, which will shake up the landscape of college football substantially.
On Monday's interview episode of The Flagship Podcast, Lance Taylor of JOX Radio in Birmingham, Ala. joins Chip Brown for an in-depth preview of the upcoming college football season and gives his take on the SEC teams to keep an eye on in 2020. Chip and Lance also break down the Longhorns as Tom Herman approaches an all important season at Texas. Lance discusses why he believes Herman is an ideal coach for quarterbacks, even more so than highly touted SEC coaches, and gives his take on Texas potentially making a run for the College Football Playoff.

10 Dec 2020 | The Flagship: What the future holds for Tom Herman, COVID-19 cases impacting Texas | 00:57:05
The Longhorns were delivered unfortunate news for many Texas fans this week when three-time national championship head coach Urban Meyer told Texas he is not planning to return to coaching and officially turned down the Longhorns' offer to make him the next head coach at Texas. With the two-month whirlwind to court Meyer to Austin did not work out in the Longhorns' favor, the question remains: What does this mean for Tom Herman's future at Texas?
On this week's episode of The Flagship Podcast, Horns247 columnist Chip Brown and managing editor Taylor Estes weigh in on the current coaching situation for Texas following Meyer saying thanks but no thanks, and how his decision impacts Herman's fate in Austin. The hosts also discuss the current COVID-19 disruptions inside the football program following the Longhorns' road game to Kansas State as Texas officially resumed 'limited outdoor team activities' Wednesday. However, as it currently stands, the upcoming road trip to face Kansas this weekend remains up in the air after more COVID cases popped up from Wednesday's testing.
The Flagship then shifts focus to some listener questions, including if Herman is expected to return to Texas next season, who, if any, coaching candidates remain in the picture for the Longhorns, facility upgrades still needed, in addition to other hot topics surrounding Texas football.
Following a brief break, Chip and Taylor return with the weekly 'Love it or Leave it' segment, with the topics focused on an unlikely, though popular, name circulating around Longhorn Land to potentially take over as head coach, what the start of the basketball season could mean for the Longhorns' NCAA Tournament hopes and if the Sooners are on upset alert on the road at West Virginia this weekend as Oklahoma looks to secure the program's sixth-straight Big 12 title game appearance.

16 Sep 2020 | The Flagship: Was Texas' throttling of UTEP a sign of what's to continue for the Longhorns? | 00:54:34
Texas posted an impressive win over UTEP when the Longhorns stomped the Miners 59-3 in the 2020 season opener. While the victory was an impressive start for Texas football, it's important to temper expectations considering the opponent.
But the consistency shown the by the Longhorns has left one question: Is this the sign of what's to continue for the Longhorns as they enter Big 12 play?
In the mid-week episode of The Flagship Podcast, Horns247 columnist Chip Brown and managing editor Taylor Estes give their quick takeaways from the Longhorns win over the weekend, and take a look at what lies ahead for fourth-year head coach Tom Herman and Texas football as the team enters Big 12 conference play.

17 Jun 2020 | The Flagship: Latest on Longhorns request for change, featuring special guest Nate Boyer | 01:13:25
It's been far from a boring week around the University of Texas after black student athletes submitted their requests for changes on campus to make the Longhorns' home more equal for black students. Included in the list of demands was the removal of several statues, changing facility names, renaming buildings on campus, among many other requests. However, one of the most significant requests was the student-athletes asking to end their requirement of participating in the Eyes of Texas due to some racial overtones from when the song was debuted.
In this week's episode of The Flagship Podcast, Horns247 columnist Chip Brown and managing editor Taylor Estes weigh in on the player's demands for change at Texas, including their stance on the situation surrounding the Eyes of Texas. The hosts also discuss some other news, including the positive COVID-19 tests after Texas welcomed back a large group of football players to campus to begin voluntary summer workouts and how the Longhorns have added more depth back to the receiver room with redshirt freshman wide receiver Kennedy Lewis making his return to the team from his spring semester suspension.
Taylor and Chip then welcome in a very special guest in former Texas deep snapper and US Army Green Beret Nate Boyer, whose meeting with former 49ers QB Colin Kapernick led to Kap kneeling for the National Anthem rather than sitting on the bench. Boyer weighs in on the black student-athletes requests for change at the University of Texas and gives his thoughts on racial injustice in this country in the aftermath of George Floyd's death at the hands of a Minneapolis police officer. As always, we thank Nate Boyer for his service to our country in defending the freedoms we have each and every day.

The Longhorns return home this Saturday with an unblemished record after Texas barely skated by Texas Tech last weekend in an overtime win on the road in Lubbock. No. 9 ranked Texas will host its first game of Big 12 action when Gary Patterson and TCU make the trip from Fort Worth to Austin for Saturday's at 11 a.m. CT kickoff between the Longhorns and Horned Frogs.

17 Jun 2021 | The Flagship: How new NIL law in Texas will impact Longhorn athletes | 00:52:18
On this week's episode of The Flagship Podcast, Horns247 columnist Chip Brown and managing editor Taylor Estes deliver a loaded show coming on the heels of Texas governor Greg Abbott signing the new NIL bill which will go into effect July 1 and allows for student-athletes in the state to profit on their name, image and likeness. Chip and Taylor discuss how the NCAA's lack of handling of the NIL situation could lead to the ultimate demise of the organization's control over Power Five football conferences, while also weighing in on ways Texas student-athletes could benefit from this bill immediately if the NCAA doesn't deliver guidelines prior to July 1. The Flagship then shifts focus to the Texas basketball team after Chris Beard has continued to see success in the transfer portal. The Longhorns recently added the commitment of UMass transfer Tre Mitchell, which gives Beard four of the nation's top transfer portal prospects after just two months on the job.
Chip and Taylor then preview Texas baseball's Game 1 matchup in the College World Series against a Mississippi State team that the Longhorns faced in their first game of the 2021 season and discuss how the Texas team the Bulldogs will face Sunday is entirely different than the squad faced in February.
After a short break, The Flagship Podcast returns with our Love it or Leave it segment, with this week's topics focused on the impact Alabama RB transfer Keilan Robinson could make for the Texas offense this season, what to make of Vegas' 7.5 win total for the Longhorns in 2021 and predict the outcome of Sunday's College World Series matchup between Texas and Mississippi State.
Texas fans won't want to miss this loaded episode of The Flagship Podcast.
