For those unfamiliar Mountune is quickly becoming Ford's premier tuning partner and is providing aftermarket tuning support for the Focus and Fiesta platforms. We of course discuss their product offerings but we also touch upon the different demands of customers around the world, Mountune's history and we spend a substantial amount of time discussing Mountune's upcoming Mustang offerings.

We may occasionally rant against all-things BMW on this podcast, but deep in our dark hearts there lies a soft spot for the Bavarian beasts. This seems to be the case for Jeremy Whittle and Jason Seaver, because the pair are part of a company called Bavsound. Essentially, Bavsound is an audiophile haven aimed at making BMW vehicles a better place to listen to music.

This episode I'm joined live from the SEMA show floor by Pete Brock.  Mr. Brock has had one hell of a storied career bringing us The Daytona Coupe, the Sting Ray and a litany of amazing cars from his BRE mark.  Pete drops a couple of serious bombs in the world of Mustang history on this episode along with his usual array of insights and stories of days past.  These days Pete is producing some very nicely appointed full aluminum racing trailers with his company Aerovault that I'd highly reccomend checking out if you're in the market.

This week we reunite with an old friend Mr. Alex Roy. Alex and Blake are both fresh back from Pebble Beach where they experience all manner of automotive obscura. Blake regales us with his story of riding his Moto Guzzi to Pebble while pailing in comparison to the epic journeys of George Egloff. Alex shares his experience with Jerry Wiegert of Vector fame. Blake reviews the A3, CLA and Alfa 4C we discuss the merits of Chris Bangle's BMW designs, abysmal Viper sales, Ferrari's GT cars and of course Alex's Morgan 3 Wheeler.

Carlos Lago is a man who drives man amazing machines... but the one that is currently providing him the most thrills happens to be his own project Nissan 240SX. That's because it has a LS3 crate motor that's making 430 horsepower. His car is fast, and it enjoys going fast in both straight lines and sideways as well.

Oh, he also plays host on the Motor Trend channel when he's not churning out stories and reviews for the print side. He's also our guest on episode 83 of the Hooniverse podcast.

It's time for another solo episode. Jeff just got back from a family road trip on the east coast. Using an Audi Q7, he and his family trekked from Virginia all the way up into New England. He talks about the trip itself, the car, and seeing his favorite band at his favorite ballpark, near his birthday.

After that there's chatter about the Honda Ridgeline, using track data to improve your times, and the Motor Trend show Engine Masters, plus a bit more.

Blake Z. Rong is absent this episode but have no fear because we've got a guest to take his place. Skip Essma from TRD joins us in the podcast palace. He's the Senior Vehicle Dynamics Engineer so he knows his chassis and suspension setups.

We chat about some new car bits, including the recent news and vehicle reveals out of Frankfurt. Soon though we dive into exactly what Skip does, we talk racing, and we also talk sweet sweet beer.

Ron and Jeff discuss the recent insanity in auction prices at Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale and Mecum's Kissimmee auction. The duo talks about the Daytona 24 Hour Race, answer some questions from Instagram, then give updates on their various project vehicles. The most important one? The Montero is back in action!

Chris and I are in the studio and we kick it off with a bit of news. Aston Martin is dishing out a manual-gearbox equipped Vantage. Hennessey is making a Velociraptor Ranger. The Challenger is outselling the Camaro. And the C8 Corvette will be unveiled in Orange County, CA. After that we dive into some questions, talk about our own vehicles, and more.

The HoonTruck comes home after a brief stint in the shop. It's running better, has fresh front glass, and the exhaust outlets are now evenly lined up. Meanwhile, the Benz is about to go under the knife for some suspension fixes.

Right now, I'm driving the Chevy Colorado ZR2 so I've got a few things to say about that. Coming up later in the week is the Jaguar F-Type R convertible and then it's off to the East Coast to drive the Audi RS3 and TT-RS at Lime Rock Park.

Our guest this week is renowned comedy writer, car lover, and Fox talk-show all-star Spike Feresten. You may know him from his work providing the funny to shows like Saturday Night Live, Late Night and The Late Show with David Letterman, and Seinfeld, as well as many other programs.

Now Spike is using his love of cars to help folks find the perfect automotive match. His show is called Car Matchmaker, and it runs on Esquire. Feresten shows folks a variety of cars that he thinks would be the ideal fit for them, and this can range from a new Mercedes-Benz GLK to a Buick Grand National.

On the latest episode of Car Matchmaker, Spike's brother turns to him for help. Feresten gets a helping hand from Jerry Seinfeld, Jimmy Fallon, Will Forte, and Seth Meyers in the first hour-long episode of Car Matchmaker. It's a show that perfectly bridges the automotive gap between enthusiasts and normal folk who don't obsess over all-things automotive.

You'll laugh, you'll cry... actually, if you cry you probably have some other issue, because you should just laugh.

Chris and I are back in the studio and we've got some news on our own cars. Mine is that the Wombat no longer plays host to a non-running HEMI and transmission. Those are out, sold, and gone! Chris has bigger news in that he bought a Porsche Macan S as his new daily driver. His Ford Fiesta will be up for sale soon as well.

In this episode we also chat about Rally Rd, which is a very interesting project that sales shares in vintage cars. It's basically a stock market of sorts for expensive old machines.

Finally, we dive into your questions before realizing it's getting late in the summer season and no one cars about podcasts right now.

This week former Hooniverse producer and frequent contributor Zack Klapman joins us with tails from New Zealand.  The Smoking Tire film crew recently embarked on a lengthy trip to kiwi-land that stretched the across much of the country and brought a variety of highly modified and custom built cars. 

I'm solo on this one but I've still got a few things to talk about. Namely, the recent bit of seat time I had with the Superformance Grand Sport Corvette, the return of my 1974 Mercedes-Benz 280 Sedan, and a few other odds and ends. After that I dive straight into your questions because it gets silly trying to babble away when I'm by myself. Plus you've all got some great questions, and I am in a hurry to answer them.

Ron and Jeff celebrate St. Patrick's day with a few stories before diving into the car talk. Jeff has just driven the Porsche 911 GTS Targa, an electric Cobra, and will soon drive the Jeep Grand Cherokee 4XE. Then the two hosts discuss the current states of their project cars. There are more upgrades in store for the Montero, and Ron's Tahoe has a dashcam now. Finally, Ron and Jeff take a moment to single out some folks who are doing great stuff in the industry.

Perennial favorites and awe-inspring builders Jim and Mike Ring stop by to share their experience building Wes Rydell's 1948 Cadillac Coupe ATS-V hybrid. As usual the guys have done some outstanding work but few people appreciate just how big of an undertaking the 48 was.  The car is FAR from a simple engine swap and in total it's truly a complete re-engineering of an ATS-V that happens to look like a 48 Caddy.

This week Jeff leaves Blake and I to our own devices and that of course means things goes awry.  We spend a little time talking about the Dinan BMW 1M, Mazda's new vision for the Miata, Blake is driving the Dragon Jeep, the death of the Mitsubishi Evolution and we get nostalgic via a few tangents.

Returning to Hooniverse; Jonathon Klein (now of The /Drive) fills in for Jeff this week.  We cover Jon's time in the new Rolls Cullinan, the Ducati Panagale V4 S, the madness of the McLaren 720s and we touch on a bit of C8 news.

Josh Ostrander joins us on the show. He recently returned from Gridlife in Atlanta, where he saw drift cars, time attack machines, and late-night music performances all at the same venue. We also talk about the insanity that is a $180,000 2002 BMW M5, answer your questions, and talk about our own cars.

As for press cars, this week it's the new Hyundai Veloster R-Spec.

Jeff Glucker and Blake Z Rong are joined by Matt Farah. You know Farah from The Smoking Tire, /DRIVE, his handful of appearances on this very podcast, and now, /DRIVE+.

The crew dive right into it to learn about the move to a subscription-based platform for the /DRIVE video series. It's a fascinating topic right up until we're interrupted by a rather fascinating person coming into The Smoking Tire offices. Bucky Lasek temporarily stops the proceedings as Blake and Jeff go mega-fanboy for a moment.

Things get back on track and Farah tells us more about the /DRIVE+ move. He has to leave to attend to Mr. Lasek (who is appearing on TST later in the evening), so Blake, Jeff, and Producer Chris get into their own cars and what they're driving to finish off the show.

Our friend Matt D'Andria (@Motorator) cohost of Carcast alongside Adam Carolla swings by to tell us about their new movie "Winning: The Racing Life of Paul Newman".  We of course cover a lot of ground on the Newman front however we also get into Matt's very ambitious 93 Cobra project, how Matt got into the podcast world and a little inside baseball on the subject of press fleets.

 

 

Duncan Ende and Jeff sit down to recap the goings on in some of their favorite racing series. There was plenty of action in Formula One recently. IMSA was active and IndyCar was running at Barber the week prior. Duncan leads the way this week and we meander through motorsports madness in this Race Recap.

I am solo at home this evening for episode 195. I still have a few things to chat about, including our Team Valvoline stuff, my truck, the potential new project car I'm going to look at, and the cars I'm driving. Jeff Glucker and Chris Hayes step back into the original podcast palace of love for Episode 78. Blake Z. Rong is off doing professional automotive writer things on the other side of the country.

Topics range from a few favorites revealed at the Paris Motor Show, to Volvos new crazy concept turbo motor, and on to a few things we've driven recently. These include the Lamborghini Aventador Roadster, a 2015 Hyundai Sonata, and a few other machines.

I'm up in Seattle for the launch of the new Audi A4/S5 Sportback. It's a fine machine, but I just wish it was an Avant. Regardless, there are other things to talk about including the Indy 500. So onward to the questions which help me cover all the various topics we need to talk about.

We missed a week due to some technical issues, so this episode is a sort of re-do. In it, hosts Jeff and Ron muse about their day-to-day goings-on before Ron reveals that one of his project vehicles was recently broken into. It's a C10 pickup and it's an odd target considering it's in a locked yard with no headlights.

Friend of Hooniverse Joel Strickland is an Australian photographer. He's contributed to our site, and also produces great imagery work for a whole lot of automakers and motorsports teams in his native land. Joel happened to be stateside for a few days, so we invited him on to the podcast.

We're going to learn about some Aussie beer before diving into the world of the automobile.

It's a short episode this week, but it's an on-the-road episode.

This was recorded while Jeff was at the Nürburgring a few weeks back. He sat down in his hotel and spoke into the recorder for 20 minutes. No, this time it's not going to be like the Scotland podcast. While he swears he'll try to recreate that "magic" someday, today is not that day. Jeff is joined by racing driver Duncan Ende, and the two chat about what's going on in the world of motorsports over the prior weekend. With Jeff out of town and Blake writhing in agony from "the fevers" Zack and I were left with little recourse but to sit down with our friend and all around Hoontastic yobo Corbin Goodwin. Many of you likely know Corbin from the "Zero Fucks Given" RX-7, the Jettamino and most recently his drift Rolls.  Beyond those projects we talk about Corbin's day job of driving for Lyft, the mertis of rotary engines, general lust for inline 6 cylinder engines, why Audis generally suck and myriad other topics. 

In our penultimate SEMA 2015 episode Jason Conner (@TerminatorConn) and I sit down with Texas Speed and Performance.  In easily one of my favorite episodes from SEMA we cover Taxas Speed's mail order tuning business, the evolution of their small block business, the Gen 6 Camaro, the Texas Mile, the realities of internet racing versus reality and what it takes to manufacture their own cylinder heads and camshafts.

Our guest this week is Road & Track Multimedia Editor Chris Cantle. He's a delightful chap who's rather brilliant with a camera, conned his bosses into spending money on a Miata with 320,000 miles, and was the person riding shotgun when Mad Man Higgins put a Subaru WRX STI rally car sideways on the Isle of Man.

If anyone has some stuff to chat about, it's Mr. Cantle... or Cant-luh as we prefer to say it.

Host Jeff Glucker is joined by guest Mike Satterfiled who is the Creative Director behind The Gentleman Racer and MP Speed Shop clothing. Satterfield is also in charge of drumming up drivers for the Rally Historico Transpeninsular, which is a road rally for pre-1973 vehicles that starts in Tijuana and runs down to Cabo San Lucas.

The chatter ranges from the rally and Mike's companies, as well as his stable of vehicles. These include a classic Mini that rocks a camo wrap, and a 1967 Ford Fairlane in full Gul colors. We also talk about some new car news and chat about SEMA some more as well.

Novelty and improvement are strange bedfellows.

Associate Video Producer Josh Ostrander joins me in an Infiniti QX60 as we drive to the other side of Los Angeles to see the new Avengers Infinity War film. Josh Ostrander just bought a 2007 Audi RS4. It's a rare car. With its Imola Yellow paint, it's finished in a rare hue. It's one of the best sounding Audi cars ever built. It's also a giant highlighter for just how annoying it can be to buy a car through a small used car lot.

In a much needed break from being (somewhat) straight-laced at SEMA Carlos Lago (@carloslago) drops by joining Zack Klapman (@ZackKlapman), Jon Klein (@jonathon_klein) and myself (@hayesdata).  We play the segue game througout the episode, Carlos does his best to upset Zack and we also get some actual car talk in there as well.

 

 

Yeah, there's a bit of an echo in this one but we will sort that out before the next one. REGARDLESS, episode 305 starts off with talk about the new Chevy Corvette Z06. Then we switch to the Subaru Forester Wilderness, and the Audi RS E-Trong GT. Jeff has a few project car updates, and Ron's fleet kicks into full-working high gear.

JonathOn Klein and Colin Woodard join us in the Hooniverse podcast studio today. You all know Klein, and Mr. Woodard joins us as a guest from Motor Trend. We talk about some of the interesting machines they've driven lately. This includes a Dirt Sprint car that apparently wants to behave more like a rally car than a dirty drift machine.

After that it's time for questions, and we ponder far too long about the fate of the upcoming C8 Corvette.

I sat down with Noah Alexander and Charles Crews from Classic Car Studio better known as the shop from "Speed Is the New Black".  The guys brought an absolutely gorgeous F100 to SEMA which was coincidentally parked directly next to our podcasting studio. We of course talked about the F100 the TV show and upcoming trends in the market we expect to see at SEMA.

 

Jeff Chu from Nextbase is on the podcast to talk all things Dashcam. We cover what's in store for the future of this segment, why you should pick one dashcam over another, and find out the craziest dashcam video that Jeff has seen.

We get right into it... I sold the Jag. My 1986 Jaguar XJ6 with the Chevy V8 swap was offered for sale on Cars and Bids, and the auction result was awesome. The car has now traded hands and my garage is empty for the time being. It's time to focus on the Montero and maybe finally get the Mercedes wagon up and running.

After we talk about the Jag, we move into the Instagram questions.

Chris and I walk through a bit of the news to kick of episode 256. On tap, we have to talk about:

Jeff and Chris are in the studio to talk random automotive BS. The topics include the new Camaro, a Fox Body Mustang with an LS V8, Lexus GS F, and some more YouTube comments.

I jump in with a solo episode to do a quick recap on Autopia2099 plus my drive up there and back in a Porsche Taycan GTS. After that I take a bunch of questions.
