In March 1968, U.S. Troops entered the Vietnamese Village of My Lai searching for Viet Cong Guerillas.  Before the day was over more than 500 unarmed Vietnamese civilians were killed.  Helicopter Pilot Hugh Thompson Jr. and his crew members Glenn Andreotta and Lawrence Colburn courageously ended the massacre by turning their weapons on their own troops.

In 1945, after a very questionable murder conviction, a 16 year old black teenager, Willie Francis, was sentenced to die in the Louisiana's electric chair.  The first execution sent shockwaves through Willie repeatedly but failed to kill him.  The drunken executioners had failed to hook up the chair properly.  A second execution was scheduled six days later.  Willie's new attorneys fought the second execution on the grounds it constitued "Cruel and Unusual Punishment" which is prohibited under the U.S. Constitution   This is the story of their desperate attempt to save Willie's life.

On May 19, 1920 The Stone Mountain Coal Mine Corporation sent hired guns into Matewan, West Virgina to squash attempts by Coal Miners to unionize. This lead to a deadly shoot out that became known as the Matewan Massacre.  It was followed a year later by the largest armed rebellion since the civil war, when 10,000 armed Coal Miners took on the coal mining industry's private army at Blair Mountain, West Virgina.

On June 11, 1964 42-year-old Willi Walter Seifert armed with an insecticide sprayer converted into a flamethrower, a lance and a homebuilt mace,  entered the a school and opened fire on the girls playing in the courtyard. He then knocked in classroom windows with his mace and fired inside. Eight children and two teachers died in the horrific event.
