21 Apr 2022Loyalsock Trail with Jordan Meeder00:35:25

Jordan Meeder talks about hiking the Loyalsock Trail and how a chance encounter with Ruth Rode inspired him to create a short documentary about the trail.

Watch the documentary here.
Learn more about Jordan Meeder here.

"The name Loyalsock Creek is from the Indian phrase, “LAWI-SAQUICK,” meaning middle creek, since it flows between Muncy Creek and Lycoming Creek. The Loyalsock Creek begins in Wyoming County and ends at Montoursville, PA, where it flows into the West Branch of the Susquehanna River. The Loyalsock Trail (LT) is a footpath which begins on PA Route 87, 9.0 miles north of the Route 87-Montoursville Exit of Interstate 180 (US Route 220), and ends at a parking lot on Meade Road, 0.2 miles from US Route 220. The entrance to Meade Road is 2.4 miles north of the intersection of Routes 220 and 154 near Laporte. The LT follows mountain ridges and streams through the Loyalsock Creek watershed as it travels through the woods on footpaths, old logging roads and abandoned railroad grades. It passes through parts of the Loyalsock State Forest for most of its 59.21 miles. The extremes of elevation are 665′ at its lowest, and 2140′ at its highest." (source: Alpine Club of Williamsport)

02 Jun 2023Boots on the Trail - Hike for Healing00:38:21

Lee, trail name Boots, shares information about his annual Hike for Healing. This year the hike will be on June 19th on Segment 1 of the Mountains-to-Sea Trail. Listen in to learn how you can bring awareness to this issue and be an ally by supporting the hike.

"Hike for Healing is an annual hike promoting ongoing awareness to strive towards healing of divisions. Why? Because humanity is imperfect. Racism, inequity, cultural insensitivities, social injustices, and even subtle prejudices are quite real and unfortunately play a role in everyday life. These are not political problems, these are human problems." - Bootsonthetrail.com

01 Jul 2023Best of Hike: Finding Your Katahdin with Stacia Bennett00:53:07

Original episode aired February 13th, 2019

Stacia shares her personal experiences of being on the Appalachian Trail and how it helped her grow and find purpose in life.

Anyone who is planning a section or thru hike or has done one will find that listening to her story gives a candid and honest perspective that gets to the heart of why we hike. Stacia reflects on overcoming obstacles, pushing her body to its limits and the bonds of her trail family as she set out to reach Katahdin.

What she discovered along the way is that the Appalachian Trail is more than the number of miles you hike or what you check off on the list. The trail changed her life. Through Stacia's story, we get to understand what it really means to find Katahdin.

03 Sep 2024Sightseeing with Sandy00:27:53

Shambrekia Wise shares the origin story of how she co-created Sightseeing with Sandy with her daughter.

After receiving a Multiple Sclerosis diagnosis, Shambrekia made a decision to live life more intentionally and to create lasting memories with her daughter, Sandy.

Sandy observed that she didn’t see a lot of kids that looked like her when they traveled. She asked her mom to find a solution to it. This conversation was one of the factors that led to creating Sightseeing with Sandy. “The book series, ”Sightseeing with Sandy”, creates a telescope to the world so children don’t ever have to leave home to explore it.”

19 Sep 2019Exploring the Flint River00:30:24

Rebecca Fedewa, Executive Director, of the Flint River Watershed Coalition shares how the organization educates, promotes recreation, sustainability and conservation of the Flint River.

"The Flint River Watershed Coalition is a membership organization that promotes citizen stewardship of our natural resources by providing our members with the sources, knowledge, and capacity necessary to protect local water quality and watershed habitat.

The Flint River Watershed is more than 1,358 square miles and encompasses portions of 7 counties, 20 cities & villages, and 58 townships. The Watershed drains this large land area through the Flint River and all the tributaries of the Flint. It includes most of Genesee and Lapeer Counties, and parts of Shiawassee, Oakland, Tuscola, Sanilac and Saginaw Counties. The Native American name for this river was Pewonigowink, meaning “river of fire stone”. The Flint River is 78.3-mile-long and is formed in Lapeer County near Columbiaville where the river’s South Branch and North Branch come together." (source: flintriver.org)

Rebecca talks about kayaking programs that are introducing people to recreating on the Flint River, continued clean up efforts, and water quality. We also touch on the Flint Water Crisis and the campaign #itsnottheriver which educated the world that the Flint River was not the cause of having lead in Flint's drinking water.

10 Oct 2019Great Smoky Mountain Adventures with Nancy East00:56:58

Nancy East of Hope and Feather Travels Blog shares her adventures living with the mountains in her backyard. She's a certified Naturalist through the Great Smoky Mountains National Park Tremont Institute, a Search and Rescue Volunteer and shares her wilderness safety knowledge with fellow hikers through holding classes (both virtual and in the field!) and her blog posts.

After 25 years of hiking in the Smokies, Nancy recently completed her map of hiking all the official trails becoming a member of the 900 Miler Club. As a way to give back to the park that she has loved so much, she is doing the Tour De LeConte challenge and raising money for Trails Forever Program and Friends of the Smokies who are rehabilitating one of the trails up to the LeConte Summit (Trillium Gap).  This challenge is close to 45 miles and over 11,000 feet of elevation gain in 24 hours where Nancy will hike all the trails that lead to the LeConte summit.
