Today, I'm having a GAS with Rania and Trevor Robinson, respectively the CEO and Founder / ECD of Quiet Storm. -- At the age of 11, Trevor Robinson’s school careers advisor told him that he’d have more chance of being a bus driver than working in advertising. Despite the early obstacles he faced getting into the industry, he has managed to forge a hugely successful career for himself over the last three decades. In 1995 he founded Quiet Storm, one of the first agencies to write, direct and produce its own work – a model which it still uses today, and has seen it create award-winning work including You’ve Been Tango-ed and Haribo’s Kids Voices campaign. Rania Robinson came to the UK from Egypt at the age of 3. Starting school at age 4 not speaking a word of English sparked a life-long passion for and fascination with forming connections and meaningful communication. Having spent most of her career in non-traditional agencies in both account leadership and strategic roles she has worked with some of the world’s best known brands including Three Mobile, Mercedes, Stella Artois, Coca Cola and Innocent with a particular focus on brand building and experience. Since joining Quiet Storm seven years ago, she has brought a 360° perspective and new energy to the agency, helping extend its service offer and broaden sector experience, delivering considerable growth in the process. -- Having a GAS™ is the podcast that talks to the great and the good of the creative industries, and in particular finds out what makes great music for film, for TV, for advertising; for dancing to, for cooking to, f*cking to, and more... -- Quiet Storm are a creative agency and production company who look to transform businesses, lives and society through creativity. According to Wikipedia...
Donald Francis Draper, born Richard “Dick” Whitman, is a fictional character and the protagonist of the AMC television series Mad Men (2007–2015), portrayed by Jon Hamm. Up to the Season 3 finale, Draper was creative director of fictional Manhattan advertising firm Sterling Cooper. He then became a founding partner at a new firm, Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce, after he and his superiors left their previous agency in advance of an unwanted acquisition. The agency later merged with a rival firm, Cutler Gleason & Chaough, to become Sterling Cooper & Partners while pursuing a contract from Chevrolet. The character of Don Draper is partially inspired by Draper Daniels, a creative director at Leo Burnett advertising agency in Chicago in the 1950s, who worked on the Marlboro Man campaign; and by Bill Backer, an advertising executive at McCann Erickson who created the "I'd Like to Buy the World a Coke" ad in 1971. Mad Men is an American period drama television series created by Matthew Weiner and produced by Lionsgate Television. It ran on the cable network AMC from July 19, 2007, to May 17, 2015, lasting for seven seasons and 92 episodes. Its fictional time frame runs from March 1960 to November 1970. Mad Men begins at the fictional Sterling Cooper advertising agency on Madison Avenue in Manhattan, New York City, and continues at the new firm of Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce (later named Sterling Cooper & Partners) near the Time-Life Building at 1271 Sixth Avenue. According to the pilot episode, the phrase "Mad men" was a slang term coined in the 1950s by advertisers working on Madison Avenue to refer to themselves, "Mad" being short for "Madison" (in reality, the only documented use of the phrase from that time may have been in the late-1950s writings of James Kelly, an advertising executive and writer). The series's main character is the charismatic advertising executive Don Draper (played by Jon Hamm), who is initially the talented creative director at Sterling Cooper. He is erratic and mysterious but is widely regarded throughout the advertising world as a genius; some of the most famous advertisement campaigns in history are shown to be his creations. Later, Don becomes a founding partner at Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce but begins a struggle as his highly calculated identity falls into a period of decline. The plot of the show tracks the people in his personal and professional lives. As the series progresses, it depicts the changing moods and social mores of the United States throughout the 1960s and early 1970s. Mad Men received widespread critical acclaim for its writing, acting, directing, visual style and historical authenticity; it won many awards, including 16 Emmys and five Golden Globes. The show was also the first basic cable series to receive the Emmy Award for Outstanding Drama Series, winning the award each year of its first four seasons (2008–2011). It is widely regarded as one of the greatest television series of all time and as part of the early 21st century Golden Age of Television

22 Aug 2022 | Having a GAS with...Shawn Everett | 01:26:26
Today, I'm having a GAS with Shawn Everett, a six-time Grammy Award-winning producer and mix engineer. I genuinely believe that Shawn is one of the architects of the sound of pop music between 2010 and 2020. Not that his career ends in 2020, just to say that the huge, deep, wide and saturated sound of that decade is certainly exemplified by his productions. -- After graduating high school, Everett was accepted as a Work-Study participant in the Audio program in Music & Sound at The Banff Centre, Alberta. He took the opportunity to immerse himself in unconventional audio practices over the following four years, experimenting in the campus studios and working on sonic installations. Everett relocated to Los Angeles in 2005 and expanded his industry network through producer Eric Valentine. He began engineering for producer Tony Berg, former A&R executive for Geffen Records and Virgin Music. Hailed in 2017 by Pitchfork as “indie rock's new go-to sound engineer”, Shawn Everett has infused his creative flair into records by a multitude of renowned artists including Weezer, John Legend, Phantom Planet, Blake Mills, Perfume Genius, Haim, Warpaint, Grizzly Bear, The Killers, and Beck. -- Having a GAS™ is the podcast that talks to the great and the good of the creative industries, and in particular finds out what makes great music for film, for TV, for advertising; for dancing to, for cooking to, f*cking to, and more... -- GAS™ Music is a music production agency in Manchester, UK. 13 Jan 2023 | Having a GAS™ with... Insolate | 00:48:51
A veritable powerhouse of the Croatian techno scene Insolate has been establishing a global presence as a DJ and producer for over 20 years delivering as both a label boss at Out Of Place and the creative force behind their electrifying TRAUM events. Hailing from Osijek, Croatia, on the wide Croatian East – a town that at first glance a heavy industrial atmosphere overshadows, she is making her first steps as a DJ back in 1997 before taking over European and worldwide clubs. Her list of clubs and partys she played is impressive and includes Berghain, Rex, Tresor, Under Club, Club d’Anvers, Unter, Exit Festival, Tomorrowland, ADE and Dimensions Festival. Amongst many European clubs she played numerous tours in Colombia and recently added USA, China and Argentina to the list. As a producer, she's had a string of releases on highly respected labels including DJ Deep's Deeply Rooted, Marcelus’s Singular and Developer’s Modularz - supported and played by some of techno's finest including Laurent Garnier, DVS1, Dax J and Ilario Alicante. Also she released the stellar Obscure Object Of Desire EP on JoeFarr's new User Experience imprint, EP for a Suara and beautiful EP for Proletarijat, label run by Sev Dah. She also contributed to Ben Sim’s compilation Tribology among giants as Planetary Assault Systems, Oscar Mulero, Steffi etc. and also made super interesting collaboration with french producer Arnaud le Texier and released EP with him for Prodigal Son. In 2019. she announced her debut album. The album Order is Chaos was released as a double vinyl and contains 10 tracks with extremely interesting collaborations with MATRIXXMAN and singer SARA RENAR. DJ Mag (UK) described album as “exciting journey thru trans-dimensional vocals, acid drenched sequences and floor obligated bangers.” Insolate is also a major contributor to the Croatian techno scene, so much so that she was in Ibiza to receive the award for "Dance Nation of the Year" at the DJ Awards on behalf of her nation. Her and long-time partner in crime Volster also run the event series TRAUM in her native Osijek. TRAUM events have cemented their place in the clubbing calendar with quality artists like Paula Temple, Antigone, Cassegrain, Janice, Etapp Kyle and Milton Bradley, just to name a few. The success of the TRAUM nights caught the attention of Red Bull Music Academy and Dimensions – both of which they have hosted official events for. Insolate being an international messenger of techno was recognised by Ambassador award that gave her a title "Croatia’s ambassador overseas" for 2017. The final part of putting Osijek on the techno map was taken in 2015 with the launch of the label Out Of Place which Insolate runs with Volster. The label was named in honour of the beautiful struggle of carving your own way into the scene from a place that's well off the grid from the traditional capitals of techno. Now five releases strong, the label has already had contributions from heavyweights like Milton Bradley, Developer, JoeFarr, Francois X, Janice and many more. As a DJ, Insolate is well known for her no-compromise, pure-bred techno sets. It's clear to anyone who's seen her perform that she's an artist with a lot of experience but also plenty of inspiration and ambition, and a deep knowledge of techno. She is simply a natural presence in a DJ booth. If you've seen her play, you will know exactly what this means.
