In this bonus episode on #givingtuesday,  I am so excited to be joined by wild child gardener, Dawn Birdsong, as she tells us about Mighty Moms and their new program to help food insecure families in Livingston Parish.  For gardeners, we don't think much about food insecurity because we have plenty to choose from right outside the back door, but for so many families, the overwhelming anxiety of where the next meal is coming from is a huge daily burden. Mighty Moms is doing amazing things, and the Wild Child Garden Club is thrilled and honored to partner with them to sponsor a month of Feeding Young Minds.  Listen in and learn about this amazing program, how it started, and where it's going.

20 Sep 2023#33 America's Real Food Crisis00:25:36

In this episode, I share my views on the food crisis in America. With prices at the grocery store sky rocketing, genetically modified ingredients ever increasing, and new concerns coming up every day, we definitely have one.  It is hard to believe that in a time of modern day conveniences we must struggle with food scarcity, but it's true.

I read an article about this over the summer and knew this was something we had to talk about.   I am going to share my thoughts on this crisis with you, how I believe we got here, but also, what I believe is the solution.

This episode is a little bit different than what we are used to, but as I'm sure you are expecting, the garden is the center of it all.

13 Sep 2023#32 Who Are You As A Gardener?00:24:52

Welcome to Season 3 of the podcast!  I could not be more excited about what I have for you!  We are digging deep this season, and we are starting with asking ourselves a fundamental question, Who are you as a gardener? This is such an important question to ask going into a new season, and it is one that gets completely overlooked as we rush into the nursery for the first delivery of vegetables.

You are going to love these questions to ask yourself before you plant a single thing.  It will take your garden to a whole new level.  You can learn more about identifying your garden personality and grab a quick download from the Wild Child Garden Journal HERE to help you document your answers to the questions we ask ourselves today!

If you want to join the Wild Child Garden Club community, our doors are open for the month of September ONLY!!  Join us!!  Visit www.releaseyourinnerwildchild.com/gardenclub to learn more about my membership program.

27 Sep 2023#34 The One Thing Your Zone 9 Garden Doesn't Need00:15:23

You have probably seen or heard the buzz around cover crops if you have ever gardened through a cold season. Every year as the leaves begin to fall you can find farmers and even home gardeners breaking out the clover, rye, and buckwheat seeds. So what is a cover crop? Why do so many people plant them? And should you start acquiring seed for planting your garden this winter? Let's see if I can shed some light on this for you and help you determine if you need to plant a cover crop for winter. (Hint: You don't!)

04 Oct 2023#35 Cold Weather Garden Traditions00:20:56

You probably have those special traditions that remind you of childhood or of loved ones and times gone by.  Did you know that the garden has her own traditions too?  Today I want to share some cool weather garden traditions that you may have never realized but that you definitely want to know about for your garden this season.

From the first cold snap to the first frost, the first picking of greens, and all the things we can grow when the weather gets cold, this season is full of traditions.

I hope that you are gearing up for the first cold snap. For us, it is coming this weekend.  I have a few traditions up my sleeve like the first gumbo of the season, but my garden will be ready too.  I have my cold weather veggies growing. I might even get to pick some radishes! We will see!!  What I know for sure is that our lives are marked by seasons, and the garden leads the way!

01 Nov 2023#39 Preparing for the First Frost00:24:26

Do you know the difference between a frost and a freeze? Winter is coming, so let's dig in to frosts and freezes!

If it were slowly getting colder each day, frosts and freezes would be no big deal. The problem is we grow gardens in Zone 9, and that means the temperature can drop or fluctuate by 60 degrees in just 24 hours. That is something our summer plants cannot handle!

This week, I'm going to teach you exactly what you should be looking for and how to prepare your garden for frosts and freezes. Who doesn't love a freebie?! Check out the Understanding Frosts and Freezes Mini-Course for free HERE.

08 Nov 2023#40 What's In Season with Kellye Jeansonne on Porch and Parish The Podcast00:43:22

04 Sep 2024#60 The Cool Season Garden Is Different00:22:48

On this episode, we are looking at how a cool season garden is different from the typical warm season gardens we are all accustomed to growing. We plant it differently, we grow it differently, and while the cool season garden is my very favorite for so many reasons, the number one has to be that it grows itself. This is by far, hands down, the best garden to grow when you are unsteady, don't trust your green thumb, and haven't gained confidence in your gardening abilities yet.  The cool season garden will lead the way, and you will love every minute!!

23 Oct 2024Ep 67 | What Makes A Wild Child Garden Different?00:23:39

In this episode we are chatting about why you can spot a wild child garden a mile away.  Let's talk about what makes a wild child garden different because there is certainly something special about growing one.  When I first started gardening I didn't know this, and I overworked and over fed and over sprayed my garden.  And the more I did that, the more I had to do it.  And surprisingly, the less I harvested.  Now, I see the garden as a symphony.  And I show busy women how to see their gardens as a symphony too.  You want to grow a garden you love.  I can help you do that!!

24 Jan 2025Ep 78 | My 2025 Garden Goals00:29:01

Ever feel like life is too busy for a garden? Believe me, I get it. But here’s the thing: gardening doesn’t have to feel like one more thing on your to-do list. This year, I’m making space for things that truly bring me joy—starting with my garden.

In this week’s episode of Growing Gardeners, I’m sharing my personal garden goals for the year:

✨ Planting nostalgic fruit trees that remind me of childhood (and will hopefully remind my kids of theirs)

Growing what my family actually eats

✨ Keeping it all simple and sustainable

And of course, I’m answering a listener’s question about finding time to garden when life feels chaotic—because you’re not too busy to grow something beautiful.

01 Feb 2025Ep 79 | How Busy Women Grow Gardens01:04:31

Ever feel like life is too busy for a garden? Believe me, I get it. This week I am sharing the audio from a 2 day live event I just wrapped up called "The Busy Woman's Guide To Gardening." In this workshop I share how busy women, just like you, and growing overproducing gardens in the space they have with the time they've got. And they are loving it!! You can do it too!

This workshop was so inspiring, I just had to share it with you!!  Here is what we chat about:

✨ How most women end up in what I call the "garden circus" and what that looks like in real life. (And how to get out of it.)

✨ What growing in the "garden symphony" looks like as opposed to the circus and why you really want to do this instead.

✨ How to transform from a frustrated, disappointed, and unfulfilled gardener into a confident gardener that works in her garden on her time and keeps her harvest baskets full.

This episode is garden gold!!  I hope that you love it.  If you do, get the full 2 days at www.releaseyourinnerwildchild.com/grow.
