Mike Hastings was raised in the frigid motor city of Michigan where a love for machines and a superhuman tolerance for cold temperatures was born. Early in adulthood, he headed West chasing the two-wheeled pursuits of mountain biking and motorcycle racing. He even indulged a momentary fling with Super Moto. Several crashes later, he still chases his two-wheeled passion through moto clubs and long distance riding trips. Nick Smolinske spent his childhood indoors playing video games. Commuting on a bicycle in college triggered something inside that lay dormant and he discovered a passion for active outdoor pursuits. Soon he was slack-lining and competing on a Broomball team. In hopes of saving money, he began creating his own bikepacking gear in his bedroom. This operation would eventually evolve into Rogue Panda Designs and turn Nick into a business owner. Nick and Jason met one day at the Rogue Panda shop in Flagstaff, AZ to discuss the birth of the Panda, the powers of smooth jazz, hacked construction signs, the pleasures of German bread, and the benefits of vacuum sealers.

He makes a living as an entrepreneur and filmmaker, occasionally crawling through bear dens, and pursues a variety of activities on the side. He can be found in the snow or in raging rivers, perhaps even on horseback. He was once responsible for the lives and good times of many vacationers seated on his Alaskan tour bus and is to blame for the temporary sitings of the elusive Yellowstone Gorilla. Jason found him momentarily in Liberty Park in Salt Lake City where they chatted about his life instead of allowing him to prepare for a trip to Haiti.
