Note: For best listener experience, headphones are suggested but not required.    Aloha!  Thank you for joining me for episode 8:  Burial Rituals of Hawaii!   This episode is based on a true event that happened in the little town I grew up in on the Big Island of Hawaii.  I learned of this incident from the same Hawaiian history teacher I spoke about in episode 4 pt. 1 who experienced his car being pushed sideways by Nightmarchers.  I don't want to give too much away, so....   Get as comfortable as you can on these lava rocks, sorry not as soft as sand...  Pop open a green bottle, spark up that paranormal pakalolo (if that's your thing), and let's get into this....    The Ghostlore of Hawaii Patreon is now live!     Click the link below to become a Patron and gain access to additional bonus, full-length and mini-episodes only available on Patreon! Aloha Ghostlorians!

Welcome to Ghostlore of Hawaii:  Paranormal Paradise!  I am your host Jared, thank you for joining me for the beach bonfire!

In episode 3:  'Pele's Curse', I covered the misfortune that falls on those who dare take lava rocks away from Hawaii.  Tonight,  I'll be discussing a few stories that show; rocks don't always have to leave the islands for bad luck to be unleashed.

I'll wrap up the episode with the tale of a family who experienced a haunting soon after moving into their new home and how it may have been triggered by the simple act of moving a stone found in the garden.  Based on a real, listener submited story.

Crack open a green bottle, spark up some paranormal pakalolo, and let's get into this....

When we left off, Toshi just had his nightmare and woke up to a choking ghost.  He suspected the girl he saw hanged in his closet was the girl he loved in his dreams.  Jerry called family friend Kupuna Kimo, who would bless the room.  Kobayashi, Toshi's floormate, was dating Megan, who was also sensitive to spirits.  He planned to bring Megan to the room blessing to see if her visions lined up with Kimo's.

01 Apr 2022Ep. 14: Family Possessions (Season 2 Premiere)00:38:02

Note:  For best listener experience, headphones are suggested but not required.

Aloha!

Welcome to the premiere of Season 2 of Ghostlore of Hawaii:  Paranormal Paradise!  I've missed you all so much over the break in between seasons!

Tonight's episode is based on a tale I heard from Lopaka Kapanui, of Mysteries of Hawaii (https://www.mysteries-of-hawaii.com).  Lopaka is one of the most respected and well known storytellers in Hawaii and was a close friend and protege of Glen Grant, who I've mentioned numerous times on the podcast.  Lopaka operates the 'Mysteries of Hawaii' haunted tours on Oahu with his family which is the go-to tour group I recommend to all.

I've had numerous requests for more stories involving Kimo, the Kahuna featured in a couple of stories from Season 1, so guess what?  He's back!  Kimo makes a visit to the home of an elderly couple who fear their daughter has been possessed by something evil.

However, for those of you excited for Kimo's return.....I have to warn you, don't get too attached.....

So sit back, get comfortable, get all of your "essentials" (pop them green bottles, spark the paranormal pakalolo).....and let's get into this....

Aloha!  Come join me, Uncle Jared, as I cover spooky tales of the paranormal on my new podcast, Ghostlore of Hawaii:  Paranormal Paradise.

Most visitors don't know about Hawaii's haunted history.  Want to learn about the haunted hotels and the restless spirits that still roam the halls?  Or why whistling at night attracts spirits of the dead...  I want to share these chilling stories while also educating about the Hawaii most visitors don't get to experience.

Aloha!

Thank you for joining me for episode 9 of the Ghostlore of Hawaii podcast!  Tonight's stories are based on another apparition well known to the locals of hawaii.  Tales of frightening encounters happening in locations where the victim was most vulnerable have been told for decades.  I'll discuss the different possible origins of this ghost and dabble in the question "Can you rid a haunted place of it's ghost by demolishing it?"

Aloha!  Welcome back to the Ghostlore of Hawaii:  Paranormal Paradise podcast!  I'm your host, Uncle Jared, and I carved a seat out of sand just for you, right next to the bonfire I made on this beach.

Tonight's episode, we're traveling to the island of Oahu, to the University of Hawaii Mānoa campus.  Situated in the Mānoa Valley, tales of the valley's haunting has been passed down generations, way before the school existed.  Stories of Nightmarchers sightings passing through the valley are commonly told.  This tale, however, covers the hauntings on campus, specifically the dorms.

So sit back, get comfortable with your green bottle and paranormal pakalolo all ready, and let's get into this...

06 Aug 2022Ep. 24: The Hauntings at the Old Hilo Memorial Hospital00:52:08
Note:  For best listener experience, headphones are suggested but not required.

Aloha!  Welcome back to the Ghostlore of Hawaii Podcast!  I am your host as always, Jared!

Tonight's episode has been one of the most requested topics since I started the podcast; the Hauntings at the old Hilo Memorial Hospital.  For decades locals in the Hilo area have talked of one tragic event that ignited the stories that surround the abandoned building.  Sounds of crying babies, footsteps, disembodied laughter and more have all been witnessed onsite.  But did the tragedy really happen, or was it all just a rumor?  Along with discussing the history of the hospital, I'll cover the strange encounters that happened during a paranormal investigation conducted by the Kahuna Research Group back in 2013.  Lastly, you'll hear several firsthand stories from locals as well as from staff who still worked in the building long after the hospital closed.  Stay tuned...

21 Aug 2023Bonus Mini-Episode: The Visitor (Including Ways to Help Maui)00:16:04

Aloha,

On August 8, 2023, a wildfire ravaged Lāhainā on the island of Maui destroying an estimated 85% of the beachfront town, altering Hawaii's history forever.  My father's side of the family has lived in Lāhainā for over a century, with the small town serving as a second home to my sister and I growing up, so of course we were beyond heartbroken.  Long before this tragedy, in the fall of 2022, a writer from Honolulu Magazine (www.honolulumagazine.com) reached out asking if I'd like to submit a story for an article they were doing for Halloween.  That story turned into this episode with additional information not covered in the magazine piece. (https://www.honolulumagazine.com/locals-share-firsthand-spine-chilling-ghost-stories-just-in-time-for-halloween/)

This incident was something an ex-girlfriend and I experienced while visiting my grandparent's home on famed Front Street and was intended to be a Patreon exclusive episode.  However, after news of the fire, I went back and updated the ending to include how the fire has impacted my family personally and to add a short disclaimer.  After zero contact for over 24hrs, we finally learned my grandma and other family members were confirmed to be safe after being forced to evacuate twice.  Tragically this was not the case for many other residents.  Whatever you may hear on the news I can assure you it is much, much worse.  It is still too early to know the total destruction or even an accurate number of missing or deceased and will take years to fully understand the outcome of these fires with the clean-up and rebuilding of historic Lāhainā taking even longer.   I decided to release the episode to all listeners to include resources on how to help the Island's residents.

Maui needs more assistance than ever, please check the show notes for additional ways to help.  Mahalo.

18 Jul 2021Ep. 2: Don‘t Whistle at Night in Hawaii00:33:02

Note:  For best listener experience, headphones are suggested but not required.

Aloha!  Welcome back to the Ghostlore of Hawaii:  Paranormal Paradise podcast!  A show about the haunted Hawaii most visitors don't get to experience during their short time to the Islands.

In episode 2, we're sticking to the Kona side of the Big Island of Hawaii.  This is a special episode as it's the first of many to cover a paranormal experience that I witnessed FIRSTHAND.  The fact I was with another person who witnessed this same event, adds validity to my struggles in trying to understanding what happened that night....

So sit back, pop open a green bottle, spark up that paranormal pakalolo (whatever it takes to get you through the night), and listen in on why you shouldn't whistle at night in Hawaii....

29 Apr 2022Ep. 16: Mysterious Creatures Found in Hawaii00:46:31

Note:  For best listener experience, headphones are suggested but not required.

Wassup, howzit going?!  Aloha and welcome to Ghostlore of Hawaii:  Paranormal Paradise!  It's your host, Uncle Jared!

Tonight I'm going to pivot and switch things up a bit.  Instead of the paranormal, I'll be discussing the very real problem of mysterious creatures found in the jungles of Hawaii.  Many of the predators I'll discuss could have deadly consequences for those who stumble upon then in the wild.  The catch, they're definitely NOT supposed to be found in Hawaii.

So sit back, keep your eyes and ears peeled for any strange sounds in the jungle behind us, pop a green bottle, and let's get into this....

Trigger Warning:  This episode briefly mentions several situations of self-harm.  Listener discretion is advised.

Aloha!  Thank you for joining me in the last episode of Season 2 of the Ghostlore of Hawaii:  Paranormal Paradise podcast!  I cannot believe we're already wrapping up Season 2!  I appreciate your patience over these last couple of weeks.  My computer decided to "kick-the-bucket" (RIP old friend) before I could complete the intended episode finale.  After much debate (and understanding by the awesome Patreon Members), I decided to release this story, which was an exclusive episode for Patrons (www.patreon.com/ghostloreofhawaii), to wrap up the season so you listeners wouldn't be left hanging.  The podcast will now go on a short break until Season 3, but don't worry, it won't be long before we're all huddled around the bonfire once again!

If you fear the thought of Ghostlore of Hawaii withdrawals (lol) you want more content, I will continue to release bonus and mini-episodes all throughout the break.  To find out more or to become a member, head over to:  www.patreon.com/ghostloreofhawaii

So enough of the business talk....

Versions of this tale have circulated for years.  One popular depiction was told in author Glen Grant's TV special 'Chick'n Skin:  Tales of Supernatural Hawaii' that came out in the mid-90's.  Ever since seeing that interpretation as a child, the images of the story have stuck with me to this day.  As the victim in my version discovers, "new beginnings" can always be haunted by tragic pasts...

Note:  For the best audio experience, headphones are suggested but not required.

Aloha Ghostlorians!

Thank you so much for your patience while I've been working on Season 3 as I've dealt with some pretty rough stuff in my personal life (womp womp lol) and I apologize for the delay!  But now we're back in business!  The theme for tonight's  episode was one I've been wanting to cover ever since season 1, so I'm excited to finally be able to share it with you all!  The topic:  The Giants of Old Hawaii.

Legends of Giants have been part of Hawaiian folklore for centuries.  In this Season 3 premiere, I'll be discussing several of the giant-themed stories I found that were based in Hawaii, along with a few tales from around the world that share eerily similar details.  Later in the episode, I'll dive into a discovery found at a construction site on Hawaii Island that may change how we view Hawaiian mythology, while also bringing up the question; were Hawaii's giants actually part of Hawaiian history?

So crack open a green bottle, spark up some paranormal pakalolo.... and let's get into this!

Aloha!  Mele Kalikimaka and Happy Holidays!   Welcome to the Ghostlore of Hawaii:  Paranormal Paradise podcast!  I'm Uncle (Unko) Jared, thank you for joining me on the beach next to the bonfire!    Episode 10 is a little different...  This is the first tale of the podcast that is based in Japan and originally told by Japanese horror writer Yoshida Yuuki(吉田悠軌).  I heard this story on the Kaidan Japanese Scary Stories podcast.  Host Riyoko translates Japanese horror stories into English with commentary by Co-host Cat.  This story by Yoshida was one of the most original tales I've heard in a while.  This is my interpretation of his story along with my own personal twist at the end.  If you want to listen to the version of the story my version is based off of, check out Riyoko and Cat on Kaidan Japanese Scary Stories.  This was the first story of their first episode.     In the outro, I'll explain how this story connects to a few experiences I had as a child in Hawaii.  When I heard this tale, it instantly reminded me of memories I had at around 4 or 5 years old.  So get warm next to the fire, pop a green bottle, light up some finey-piney (pine as in Christmas tree), and let's get into this.....   The Ghostlore of Hawaii Patreon is now live!     Click the link below to become a Patron and gain access to additional bonus, full-length and mini-episodes only available on Patreon! In the last episode, we left off with Uncle Billy sharing the mysterious story of his one true love, Eloise.  The teens quickly fell in love after meeting and planned to spend the rest of their lives together.  Until the day Eloise went missing after suffering a tragic accident with her horse Tucker.  Billy was able to find his injured love; bleeding and barely conscious, but was still able to get Eloise back to her family.

Cozy up to the bonfire with your drinks and snackies, and let's get into this...

27 Sep 2021Ep. 7: Ghosts of Lahaina00:42:47

Note:  For best listener experience, headphones are suggested but not required.

Aloha!

Thank you for tuning into episode 5:  Ghosts of Lahaina

Before we get into the episode, I wanted to give a very special shout out to Sapphire Sandalo for featuring my first episode (The Kona Lagoon Hotel) on her extremely popular podcast, 'Stories with Sapphire'.  Sapphire has been an amazing inspiration as a horror creator (she created the extremely popular YouTube show 'Something Scary', as well as the podcast 'Stories with Sapphire') along with being a huge influence in the AAPI (Asian American Pacific Islander) communities.

I started Ghostlore of Hawaii because of the lack of representation Hawaii has in the paranormal world. Sapphire has been a proponent of getting the AAPI voice out to the world for close to a decade!  As a fellow AAPI creator in the horror genre, I owe so much to her because "there is so much more to the spirit realm then the white figures (both living and dead) that we see in entertainment. (From Sapphire's website!)"

Imagine how scary (in the best way possible) the world would be by getting exposure to the horror/ghost stories from cultures all around the globe!  I'm rambling....

So back to the episode, tonight, we're travelling to the island of Maui to visit the beautiful beach side town of Lahaina.  Known for beautiful beaches, surfing, shopping, and dining, Lahaina has something for everyone......especially those searching for the supernatural.

Tales of restless spirits found in locations across the town are still told.  See the section of the old Lahaina Fort that still stands near the large Banyan tree, or tour the prison built back in 1852.  Or, stay at one of the many resorts at the hotel district in Kaanapali, rumored to be haunted.

That's where tonight's first story takes us, to the Royal Lahaina Resort in Kaanapali.  The incident happened to a couple of of my best friends during a group trip to Maui.  The second story, well, just tune in....

I want to make a special shout out to a few podcast creators who've been super supportive during the launch of this show.  The Scare You to Sleep podcast hosted by Shelby Scott was a huge influence in pushing me into finally creating this show.  If you haven't already heard of her podcast, it's full of horror stories that come alive with her blend of sound effects and music.

The NoSleep Podcast was the podcast that introduced me to horror podcasts when they started back in 2011.  To me, they're like the "Godfather" of horror podcasts.

I also want to shout out a new podcast, Morbid Forest.  Check out their dark humorous show out now!

(Please don't leave... I won't do that again...)  I am your host as always, Jared!  Tonight we'll be venturing off course a bit from our normal ghost stories; but don't worry, the topic still very paranormal.  This episode covers the UFO/UAP sightings that have been witnessed in Hawaii since back in the 1970's that still continue to this day.  In 2020, several videos of unidentified objects flying over the Islands made national headlines, with more and more sightings happening every year.  I'll cover many of these popular incidents as well as a couple of firsthand experiences witnessed by people I know.   So sit back, put on your tinfoil hats, and let's get into this.....

Howzit going?  Aloha and welcome to Ghostlore of Hawaii:  Paranormal Paradise!  Thank you for tuning in!

Tonight's tale originated from a story I heard long ago that happened to a boy while he was out on a hike in the jungle.  Growing up in Hawaii, it was common for us to get into trouble while playing outside, unsupervised.  So getting into a scenario similar to what tonight's main character goes through was very possible, meaning, suffering the very same fate.  That thought terrified me as a child.  I'll elaborate at the end of the tale....

So thank you again, I'm so happy you're here.  Whether our bonfire is at the beach or camping in the jungle, it always means so much that you're taking the time to hang out.  So kick back, make yourself comfortable, grab drink and some pupus, and let's get into this.....

Note:  For best listener experience, headphones are suggested but not required.

Aloha!  Happy Halloween!

For this Halloween episode, I'll be covering one of Hawaii's most well known ghost stories.  Mention "Morgan's Corner" around any Local and most likely (more like 100% likely) they'll know exactly what you're talking about.  I'll talk about the legend of Morgan's Corner along with the haunted history behind the Nuʻuanu Pali, the mountain side that the road is located on.

Lastly, let's dip into the true-crime I talk about the very real and brutal murder that happened at Morgan's corner.  So get comfortable, pop open a green bottle or two.  Spark up some paranormal pakalolo....and let's get into this....

UPDATE!!!

Just as this episode was finishing being mastered, I was able to get a PHYSICAL COPY OF "THE PICTURE" that I talk about in this episode!!!  My parents packed up some stuff from my bedroom in our old house and down in the bottom of the box was my copy of Glen Grant's book 'Obake Files:  Ghostly Encounters in Supernatural Hawaii'!  He included the color photo of what he and his students captured that night at Morgan's Corner.

Check out my Instagram for the higher quality picture along with the screen-grab I took of Grant's 'Chick'n Skin' TV special that aired in Hawaii back in the mid 90's with the man himself (I do not own the rights to the photo).

14 May 2022Ep. 17: Hawaii’s Haunted Hotels (Part 1)00:33:41

Note:  For best listener experience, headphones are suggested but not required.

Aloha Ghostlore of Hawaii Ohana!

I am your host Uncle Jared, thank you for joining me for our virtual bonfire here on the beach!

Tonight's episode is the first in an ongoing series that covers the many haunted hotels of Hawaii.  The first hotel covered in the episode is the Ritz Carlton Kapalua, located just a few minutes north of Lahaina on the island of Maui.  The controversial obstacles developers came across during the resort's construction was the start of new laws introduced to the state.  These laws protected the land and any historical artifacts discovered during construction.

The second part of this episode takes us to the south coast of Kauai to a small hotel built way before these new laws were put in place.  Many claim the hotel was cursed from the very beginning due to the developer's disregard for items found and used in it's construction.

So sit back, get comfortable, and let's get into this....

27 May 2022Ep. 18: The Disappearance of Travis00:50:59

Note:  For best listener experience, headphones are suggested but not required.

Aloha Friends!

Good seeing you all back!  I am Jared, the host of Ghostlore of Hawaii:  Paranormal Paradise!  Thank you for joining me at our bonfire!

Creating tonight's episode was a tough one.  The very real tragedy that this story is based on happened to an acquaintance of my fathers.  I cannot begin to imagine the grief parents go through when losing a child but the pain must be amplified when a child disappears.  The lack of closure and not wanting to believe the loss is permanent must be torture.

For a couple of years, that is exactly what this family went through.  However, strange events began to occur in the family home that forced the tragedy back into the lives of the grieving parents.

So sit back, get comfortable, and let's dive into the haunting story of 'The disappearance of Travis'.

22 Jul 2022Ep. 23: My Haunted Apartment00:38:40

Note:  For best listener experience, headphones are suggested but not required.

Aloha!  Welcome back to the Ghostlore of Hawaii Podcast!

Tonight we venture away from The Islands for a bit; but don't worry, this story is still connected to Hawaii....through me!

That's right, in this episode I'll be discussing a very interesting time in my life; when I moved into my very first apartment....that just so happened to be haunted.  During my sophomore year in college, strange occurrences began happening shortly after moving into this specific apartment unit.  Throughout that one year period, myself and several other people witnessed weird events that happened in that building.  This was around the time sections of the story 'The Haunting at the UH Mānoa pt 3' was based on, so was in touch with an acquaintance who was sensitive to the paranormal.  I reached out hoping she could shed some light on the source of the occurrences.  The information she gave my roommate and I did little to ease our concerns....

So sit back next to the fire, pop open a green bottle (or two), spark up your paranormal pakalolo (or not), and let's get into this.....

31 Jan 2022Ep. 13: The Dead Can’t Dance (Season 1 Finale)01:04:48

Note:  For best listener experience, headphones are suggested but not required.

Aloha!  Thanks for joining me on tonight's virtual bonfire!  I see you got the fire started, mahalo very much!  I've been so busy.

The trailer you heard at the start of the episode was for my friends Amanda and Trevin with the Seriously Sinister Podcast.  They discuss "killer facts and spooky true petty crime stories" which was my cup of tea.  Check out the Seriously Sinister Podcast's linktr.ee in the show notes.

Tonight's story involves the bloody history of Pakaka Heiau (temple), bad TikTok dances, and the repercussions of disrespecting the dead...   So sit back, pop a green bottle and....yunodakine.... and let's get into this.     *Note:  All names and characters were created for this story.  Any similarities to a person, or persons are purely coincidental.
