In honor of Halloween, our month of Horror continues. In this episode we're discussing what the hell happened to monsters. Once upon a time monsters ruled the movies - monsters like Dracula, Frankenstein, Wolfman, Mr. Hyde and even big beasts that swallowed whole towns like King Kong and Godzilla. But somewhere along the way they became played out. At least that's how it seems. It's not enough to just have some big scary thing show up in a movie and expect everyone to gasp or let out a collective "Whoa!!" It requires more than a CGI monster to bust through a desensitized audience. Sure, it takes real practical innovation and a twist on the old to keep us guessing, but there has to be more. We're digging into it all and getting to the bottom of what's missing and what should be done to make monsters cool again. We're ready to be scared again. Are you?

Bond 25 has officially started filming! We're here to bring you everything we know so far about the newest installment in the James Bond series. Other than this being Daniel Craig's last outing as 007, we also learned of Rami Malek's casting as the villain, a bit about the plot and possible titles. Well, this was unexpected. Coming off the heels of the super successful Spider-Man: Far From Home, Sony and Disney have failed to come to an agreement that would keep Spider-Man in the MCU. So as much as it pains us, we're saying goodbye to Tom Holland, at least as an Avenger. It's time to continue Halloween month with horror movies that ruined us! When a movie is made right it has a visceral impact on the viewer resulting in some sort of emotional response. A comedy elicits laughter, a drama might elicit tears and a horror makes you vow to never ever in your life approach that subject ever again. By way of example, Jaws made us afraid to go in the water and IT made us swear off clowns. In fact, those movies negatively affected hundreds of thousands if not millions of people. They did their job well. There are a number of films which were able to hold this kind of power over us, and we're covering them in this episode. We're laying our souls bare and opening up to you, so please be kind. These are our fears and the things we vowed never to share a room with again. Maybe you can relate.

Goodfellas and The Godfather are the quintessential mob movies, but to call them that would hardly do them justice. Under the masterful direction of Martin Scorsese and Francis Ford Coppola, these films brought a nuance and humanity to the world of organized crime that has been hard to replicate. In honor of the release of The Irishman, we put these two mafia masterpieces up against each other to see which would come out on top. Creed 2 is yet another smash hit for the over 40-year old Rocky franchise. When they rebooted the series in 2015 with Creed, the Italian Stallion was repositioned as a supporting actor, which earned Sylvester Stallone his first acting Oscar nomination since the first Rocky film in 1976. Creed 2 once again sees the iconic Philly boxer as a supporting character, while continuing to dig deeper into the layers that make up the former boxing champ. Without giving up any spoilers, there are some signs in Creed 2 that suggest Sly might be calling it a day on his most famous role. Many are questioning whether or not these particular scenes spell the end, and if we'll see a Rocky-less Creed 3. There's plenty here to discuss and as we tend to do, argue. A recent YouTube video put out by the channel iFake shows a number of scenes from the gangster movie reimagined using deepfake on Robert De Niro, Al Pacino and Joe Pesci. This got us thinking about the future of deepfake in movies and whether or not the technology is ready for the big screen. It's often said that sound and music make up 50% of a movie's effectiveness. When you drop out sound, and especially music, you lose most, if not all, of the emotional impact. 1, 2, The Predator is coming for you. Well, more like it's coming to a theater near you. We're breaking down how we got here in the long-running franchise and what you can expect from the newest outing. Hint: lots of violence and running, definitely running.

It's been 8 years since we've had a new Predator movie and it's been 28 years since we've had a great one. After a couple of mediocre turns in the Alien vs Predator series and a step back in the right direction with Predators, the trophy-seeking baddie is back on the big screen with something that feels closer to the original classic. Hawkins himself, Shane Black (Lethal Weapon, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Iron Man 3) teams up with Fred Dekker for the first time since The Monster Squad, and we couldn't be more excited. The director is, in our humble and correct opinion, best suited to helm, what he's calling, a direct sequel to the original 2 films. The all-star cast includes Boyd Holbrook, Olivia Munn, Trevante Rhodes, Keegan-Michael Key, Jacob Tremblay, Sterling K. Brown, Jake Busey and Thomas Jane.

With the release of Solo: A Star Wars Story, we decided to look back at the movies that started it all. In this podcast episode, we're discussing (arguing) the original Star Wars trilogy and naming a winner once and for all. There are some die hard Episode IV: A New Hope fans as well as those that swear Empire Strikes Back is the greatest movie ever made. And of course there are some that would crown Return of the Jedi despite the appearance of walking talking teddy bears (Ewoks). Apparently sticks and stones can break bones and also kill fully armored soldiers wielding laser guns. Sure, that's plausible. It's all fair game in this unorthodox versus episode.

The son of original Ghostbusters' director, Ivan Reitman, announced last week that he's going to be directing an all-new installment in the beloved series of movies, set in the same universe as the 1984 and 1989 films. Naturally, this made our inner nerd do double backflips. For the most part, this news was well received by the internet at large, with a few voicing their dissent. We address it all in this episode, as well as some theories on what we will see in the movie set to be released in summer 2020. Sarah Connor is back!! News of Linda Hamilton returning to the Terminator franchise 28 years after her last outing has had us excited for some time now. But now that we have photos of her on set dressed like the badass Sarah Connor, we're geeking out real hard. Other than the silver mane she's sporting, this looks just like the Sarah we fell in love with back in the 90s.

In this episode we discuss and pitch our ideas for the still-as-yet-to-be-announced plot for Terminator 6. All we know so far is that James Cameron is excited to bring the story into the 21st century to tackle subjects like AI and smart technology. With Deadpool director Tim Miller at the helm, James Cameron producing and Arnold Schwarzenegger and Linda Hamilton returning to the roles that made them famous, this is sure to be an excellent piece of cinema.

Unfortunately, we don’t have any news yet on whether or not we’ll see mankind’s savior, John Connor, and whether or not Edward Furlong will play him. Considering that Cameron said the next film will be a direct sequel to T2: Judgement Day and treat the other sequels like they were a bad dream or part of an alternate timeline, it’s not unreasonable that Furlong would make an appearance.

This past week saw trailer drops for "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood," "Terminator: Dark Fate" and "Toy Story 4." So you know we had to share our reactions and pick apart each trailer. Amazon is making a Lord of the Rings show with a budget pushing $1 billion. So we have some advice - avoid some of the egregious mistakes of The Hobbit. While the prequels to LOTR weren't trash by any means, there were some pretty glaring missteps. In honor of the release of Mission: Impossible - Fallout, we're pitting Ethan Hunt and team up against that other kinda famous spy franchise. That's right, we're talking about Bond...James Bond. This is Spy vs Spy. It's IMF vs MI6. MI6 vs M:I6. Tom Cruise vs...a bunch of guys. Neal is dead certain 007 is going to be the obvious winner, citing iconic portrayals by Sean Connery, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig. But Thiago and Nick aren't having any of that. While the Bond films might have that brilliant lineup of British thespians, the Mission Impossible films have an amazing team that sees an update every movie. In addition to Tom Cruise, they've got actors like Ving Rhames, Rebecca Ferguson, Simon Pegg and now even Superman himself, Henry Cavill. Each has valid points but it just depends on who can shout their's the loudest. If there's one thing we can agree on, it's that both franchises have delivered up some of the best action cinema of the past 50 years. In this episode we're discussing the recently green-lit sequel to Rambo and what we would like to see that might bring the series back to its original glory. With 1982's First Blood, Rambo became the second character portrayed by Sylvester Stallone to become a household name. The other, of course, being a certain punch-drunk boxer by the name of Rocky. After 3 sequels, the last one hitting theaters a decade ago, it seemed John Rambo was ready to hang up his bandana and hunting knife for good. That was, until Sly decided to dust him off for one more violence-filled adventure in Rambo 5. The fifth installment sees the Vietnam war vet facing off against a Mexican drug cartel as he busts up a sex trafficking ring. You know, usual Rambo stuff. With a script written by the Italian Stallion himself and director Adrian Grunberg (Get the Gringo) attached, it's shaping up to be another wild ride.

Now that Avengers: Endgame is back in theaters with an additional 6 minutes added to the Marvel movie, we thought it was as good a time as any to revisit the topic. 40 years after the original Halloween, Michael Meyers is back to kill, maim and scare the s--- out of anybody who crosses his path and those crazy enough to buy a ticket. Negating the existence of the sequels and reboots that came later, this Halloween sees Michael once again breaking out of a mental institution and coming face to face with Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis). They’ve ditched the brother/sister storyline and damsel in distress/scream queen persona. This time Laurie wants Michael to come for her - so she can kill him. The new Halloween trailer looks like they’ve nailed the tone of the original without feeling like a repeat. Shotgun pumping and knife-wielding Laurie is a refreshing update to the franchise’s main hero.

In this episode we’re breaking down the trailer and discussing all of the highs and lows of each of the installments from the past 40 years. Whether you’re a fan of horror or film in general, you’ll enjoy listening to us geek out.

It's been reported that Steven Spielberg plans to address the Academy Board of Governors in an effort to change the rules on what may qualify for an Oscar nomination. Specifically, he wants to exclude anything that doesn't have at least a four week run in theaters. This would exclude recent nominees like the Netflix movie Roma and other movies that originate on streaming platforms. So with that being said, we have a lot of arguing to do. We each have opposing views on the subject, and while we do argue, we also engage in a more civil, intellectual debate. In other words, Nick doesn't yell at anybody in this episode.

Avengers: Endgame recently steamrolled its way into the #1 spot, knocking out James Cameron's Avatar for biggest box office haul. We break down how this amazing feat happened and whether the Marvel  movie really deserved it. With Avatar 2, 3, 4 and 5 in production is there a chance James "Can't Make a Bad Movie" Cameron can reclaim his position atop the leaderboard? With the Oscars nominations just announced, let's take one more look back at the Academy Awards' more fun sister ceremony - The Golden Globes. Ricky Gervais hosted for his fifth, and seemingly final time, so we were in for some edge-of-your-seat, try-not-to-squirm comedy. It seems the new 007 film is hitting some rough waters before it's even started shooting. So naturally we're going to talk about it and offer some solutions that will most likely be completely ignored. With the recent news that director Danny Boyle will no longer helm Bond 25, the whole franchise is now up in the air. The 25th installment in the popular British spy series was scheduled to start shooting in the next few months in an effort to make a November 8th 2019 release date. After losing its director, producers were forced to push the release date, which is now rumored to fall some time in summer 2020. All of this potentially jeopardizes Daniel Craig's involvement. A Bond veteran for the last 12 years, Craig has made it pretty clear that he no longer wants to play the titular role. So they need to hire a new director and potentially a new James Bond. Here we go!

We decided to get into a deep discussion of this concept as it relates to movies. We asked each other questions like, "Do you stay loyal to movies when you grow up?" or "Do you hate movies you once loved as a kid?" We didn't know any of the answers when we started this episode, but by the end, we had a better understanding of our relationship to movies as we age. Maybe you can relate?

With recent news that "Lethal Weapon 5" is close to a green light, how could we not talk about it? We haven’t seen the OG Riggs and Murtaugh (Mel Gibson and Danny Glover respectively) on screen since "Lethal Weapon 4" in 1998, so this has got us hyped...kind of. The last installment felt like a proper send-off and bookend to the perfect buddy cop movie franchise and so it doesn’t seem like we really need a new one. That doesn’t mean the next one won’t be great. With series director, Richard Donner, set to direct, it definitely has potential. Now, if they bring Joe Pesci back, we’re definitely all in. In this episode, we're going to attempt to settle the age-old argument of whether the classic action film Die Hard is or is not a Christmas movie. More specifically we answer the question, "Is the movie that launched Bruce Willis to A-list status a Christmas movie in the most traditional sense?" The short answer is yes. The long answer is...well, that's what we address in this episode. We lay out all of the stone-cold evidence as to why it belongs up there with holiday films like Miracle on 34th Street, It's a Wonderful Life and Home Alone. We make such astute observations as "John McCLane and Kevin McCallister are basically the same person." We also cover the allegorical aspects of the film (McLane and the movie itself embody the truest meaning of Christmas). If you're part of the 25% who believe this timeless classic is a Christmas movie, then allow us to add some more ammo to your arsenal. We're talking M. Night's Shyamalan's rebooted career and his biggest twist yet. Admit it, you never saw it coming! Starting in the late 90s with The Sixth Sense, M. Night Shyamalan became synonymous with twist endings that were nearly impossible to figure out until they were already upon you. Like, Spielberg, his name alone could draw a large crowd on opening weekend. But after a string of hits like Unbreakable, Signs and The Village, something happened. The magic seemed to wear off. Movies like, The Happening, The Last Airbender and After Earth were universally panned, and suddenly the once lauded storyteller was looking at a legacy in jeopardy. He was counted out but it's at times like these that winners truly win. Seemingly out of nowhere he wrote and directed one of his best movie's to date - Split. Scary, fascinating and brilliant, the horror movie put M. Night Shyamalan back on the poster. Like his previous films, Split had twists you never saw coming, but none more satisfying than the very end. That end scene gave way to his newest movie, Glass - a sequel of sorts to Unbreakable and Split. The creation of a uniquely original extended universe outside of the Marvel or DC system, was his biggest twist of all.

Steven Spielberg recently stated that Netflix movies should not be eligible for the Academy Awards. So of course we must debate this and occasionally yell at each other over our differing opinions. Our fierce argument leads us to ponder the question "Is Netflix ruining movies?" That of course leads to more yelling (and intelligent debate). Enjoy!
