In this episode, I have a discussion with Katt Brooks who is a holistic grief coach. Katt was able to shift my thoughts and show me my shadow in this short discussion. She has a unique perspective that I have not heard of before. "Vengeance is a lazy form of grief" is a quote I've heard. And in this world where we keep asking ourselves: where is the love? it all comes back to dealing with our own sorrow. This episode is for the one grieving (no matter what the grievance is) and for the one holding space for a loved one. From our hearts to yours. 13 Feb 2024 | Ep. 13 - Medical research or profit based findings? | 01:02:19
In this episode, I explain to Dasha why and how health research findings are often false. This episode was recorded for the lay person's understanding. There is no midwifery advice by podcast. 22 Nov 2023 | Ep. 3 - Moral injury | 00:28:37
In this episode we dive into 2 examples that have led to my moral injury. The system, the safety net that we rely on as health care providers is inadequate and does not enable us to provide the best care. 12 Dec 2023 | Ep. 6 - MINI: Pelvic floor in pregnancy and after birth | 00:10:43
In this episode I discuss a few misconceptions about the pelvic floor regarding kegels and muscle tone. I give a few tips to prepare you for birth and how to help healing after birth. Not mentionned in the episode: you can use tune up balls on your perineum and beside your sits bone to soften those muscles. Preparing ice pads with plain witch hazel can be soothing after birth. Do not freeze pads one on top of each other. Incontinence can be caused by hypertonia. A pelvic floor therapist can help assess and treat that. Bath herbs for infusion: garlic cloves from a whole garlic bulb, a small handful of each: uva ursi, comfrey and calendula. simmer in 2L of water for 2h. strain, divide in 2 for 2 baths. The sooner you take your bath after birth the better. Add natural salts (plain sea salt and/or plain magnesium sulfate salts). A study looking at the results of birthing in a squat vs on your back: there is a reduction of tearing, episotomy and forcep birth in the squatting group. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/17319414/ There are many positions you can deliver in beyond on your back and squatting. 02 Feb 2025 | Ep. 37 - Newborn's weight loss in the first week of life | 00:11:52
This episode is for all the moms that have told me their story and for my mom when she had me. You are always responsible for your health and wellbeing and your children's wellbeing. Information/resources about breastfeeding Exclusively breastfeeding your baby in the first 6 months is the best for your baby. Breastfeeding can be difficult to learn for some because in our culture new parents have often never seen babies latch and breastfeed. It is therefore important for pregnant individuals who want to breastfeed to learn about the basics of breastfeeding and where to access resources in your community. The first week after the birth of your baby, your breasts will initially produce colostrum and will then transition to breast milk. Colostrum is considered liquid gold. Every drop is very nutritious. Before your milk comes in, your baby will have a “fussy” night. Your baby will need to feed frequently or all night long for your milk to come in a day or 2 later. This is called supply on demand. Your body will regulate the amount of milk it is producing depending on the amount your baby is asking for. Baby’s second night https://kellymom.com/ages/newborn/bf-basics/second-night/ Skin to skin: Holding your baby skin to skin is important for you and your baby. It helps to promote your milk supply, regulates your baby’s temperature and blood sugars, helps colonize healthy bacteria on your baby and is good for brain development. Holding and cuddling your baby skin to skin in a relax environment can help you and your baby latch better. Latching your baby: A proper latch is crucial for successful breastfeeding. A proper latch prevents ALL breastfeeding difficulties. 15 Nov 2023 | Ep. 1 - The great resignation | 00:27:34
So many people are worried about the great resignation in health care. We are continuing to see health care providers leave without seeing much replacement. The statistics show that more HCP are planning on leaving in the next few years. We see no plan of action to tackle this problem.
