Forces of Fantasy (Gertjan van Heugten)

What do Undead, Dark Elves and Skaven have in common? They're the next three army lists we're looking at in the Ravening Hordes book for 2nd edition. Each army brings its own unique fighting style to the table, but you're also limited by some serious minimum model counts. And by missing rules, but hey, that's Oldhammer (or Warhammer in general) for you.

Guess what? I’m not dead yet! [Cue disappointed groans] No, honestly, I’m getting better! Welcome to the next phase of the Forces of Fantasy podcast, in which we leave 1st edition behind us (although not quite, as you will see) and start our read-through of 2nd edition. We've gotten some Old World news! Games Workshop revealed the factions that will be prominent in their upcoming new game. These "Forces of W:tOW" (which doesn't have nearly the same ring to it as "Forces of Fantasy") show us not only which armies we will get rules for, but also some models that are almost certainly probably maybe going to be re-released. Hopefully.

It must be one of the most misnamed Warhammer materials: Blood on the Streets. Don't get me wrong, the pack is absolutely awesome with 12 cardboard buildings and a 22-page booklet that gives you the background for three adjacent villages in a forgotten corner of the Empire. But as to the title, there's no blood (because it doesn't contain scenarios) and there are no streets (only buildings). That said, let's have some fun exploring the Riding and its varied inhabitants and strange customs. Anyone fancy another frog? (Don't worry, that question will make sense eventually).

Remember that quarterly publication known as the Citadel Journal? Yeah, neither does GW. But they had such high hopes. Even in this Second Citadel Journal, released half a year after the first, they still want to go quarterly. Oh well, I guess we'll just have to be glad with what we did get. A new scenario, modelling and painting tips, behind the scenes glimpses, more Regiments of Renown and of course lots and lots of British humour. Not bad, for a not-quite-quarterly publication.

What do you get when you combine a tabletop fantasy game with a classic western movie? The Magnificent Sven, of course! This episode we drive our trusty Voltsvagn (not what you think) to Vastervik (not where you think) and help some poor villagers fight off toads - or die trying. We take our time machine back to 1984 for the final time with this look at the The Magnificent Sven scenario that came in the Warhammer second edition box set. And since it's an introductory scenario, you don't really need much. Because nothing says "welcome to Warhammer" quite like needing a dining table fit for an orphanage, multiple friends, lots of time and a few hundred miniatures.

It's inevitable that an expansion booklet that gives you new army lists also gives you some new rules.
